I am back-reading and just saw you said 1980. I don't think I've ever had a heater last like that. I assume you do the right thing and drain the water out every year like you are supposed to, though.

Yes, I hook up the hose at the bottom of the tank and run it out the heater room window to drain.

He looks like the runner up guy from 'So You Think You Can Dance'. Travis I think. He did great tonight. I also like Chris. Sundance was OK, but maybe just because I love that song.

I missed AI last week, didn't want DH to have to worry about taping to many shows for me.:rotfl2: I don't remember his name but he sang a song last night and dedicated it to his wife and has really curly hair.:confused3 I also think he has personality.

I forget you are in California. It's daylight here and I am waiting for a conference all to start.

Yeah...

... I had an intense middle of the nite session with my 3 year old earlier this evening. It left me WIDE AWAKE while she fell back asleep - then reawakened to cry some more. Can't figure out what it was... but she's fast asleep now.

Oh well...

 Good Morning Crew

My weren't we a chatty group last night, I wake up this morning to see 30 pages were added, time to go skimming.

I'm also on hold with our utility company, I woke up this morning to find out hot water heater leaking all over our utility floor. I guess I can't complain, the hot water heater was installed just before we moved in this house back in July 1980.

It's always something Andy huh? Sometimes makes me think about living in a apartment just so we don't have to deal with all these home issues.;)

Hope it gets resolved quickly for you. PD your way. I had to get mine replaced about 6 years ago.

Lisa, I know what your going thru. This winter we finally got the girls sleeping in their own beds. What we did which would be hard in your case was we had the older DD 11 put the younger DD 8 to sleep, they ended up sleeping in the same bed (full size), but thats fine. For the first time in 11 years we have enjoyed sleeping like "normal" people.

We've always dealt with the same problems with our kids.....but we use having a sleepover in our room as a treat now. Ds 11 still loves to cuddle with me......shhhh don't tell anyone!

If he gets 100% on a test he gets a sleepover with me and we kick dh out of the room for the night. You would be amazed at how motivating that is for ds. He would rather have a sleepover with me as his reward than having a new game, going to a movie, etc. I know this won't last much longer.....so I'm cherishing it while I can.

OK, this is totally off topic but I have to tell someone who might actually appreciate it....

DH got up at 3 am this morning and called WDW dining. We're doing 10 days at WDW this coming August.

And he scores - yes - the Chefs Table at Victoria and Alberts. We've been wanting to do this since reading the review in the Wall Street Journal. He's so excited - it's the only thing he really wanted to do this trip.Very, very cool!!! Y'all are going to love it.

DH and managed the Chef's table the one time we went to V&A's, and as a walk-up no less. When we arrived to check in they had a sign on the desk saying the Chef's Table was available for the seating we had. What an awesome experience!

I've just finished catching up after a busy but good day. Took DD shopping after school and found her communion dress.:cutie: Now I just have to stunt her growth so it fits in 2 1/2 months!:rotfl:

Darth...you are honestly a quite impressive swabbie!!! Baker, without crisco:upsidedow , tailor and costume maker AND an ER doc in your 'spare time'. Wow. And I hear you about loving the DISers on this thread. They're the best! That's why 93% of my posts are here.:thumbsup2

One of my DF from college is a pharmacist. I visited her at work one day and asked why the prep h was kept behind the counter. I thought it was b/c people were too embarrassed to buy it. Nope. It's apparently the drug of choice for coke users (or other snortable drugs) to shrink the nasal tissues so they can breathe again.:confused3

prep H is also used when a dark horse gets a cut after the scab falls off you put prep H and when the hair grows back it will grow back the color it is suppose to instead of no treatment it will grow back white. dont ask me who thought of this .i just know it works

WOW! About 15 pages back I was wondering if there was anyone around who actually liked flying! I love it. I've flown small planes (not much, but I have 3 hours more in my log book than most people!). DH soloed in HS. I've been skydiving & DH fastropes out of helicopters.

We took an awesome flightseeing trip to Denali. We even landed on a glacier way up in the mountians so we could get out and walk around. I shot film, otherwise I'd post a photo.

The only thing I hate about flying is the middle seat & the drink prices!

i love to fly all i ever wanted to do in high school was be a fighter pilot like top gun! however when i went to enlist they told me i was too short:headache: so i went and worked for american airlines and UPS i used to park the planes that was the closest i could get to flying them:sad2: and when i worked for AA the flight bennies were awesome all you paid were the taxes

Interesting.
What will be interesting is if the cabins that fit 5 or 6 people will still be in the 1-4 cat price range- if so... then it's no help to us. I really can't figure out why they'd make it SO much cheaper to just take up 2 rooms for the same amount of people than 1 room with the same amount of people. Now granted 1-3 are suites with lots more room, bigger balconies, perks like concierge/etc. but the cat 4 is a total rip off IMO. It's just the same size (atleast as a cat 10 like we had before) with an extra bed shoved in there. I don't think the rate per adult/extra children should be any higher than a cat 6 (for the verandah) because all they do is add a bed and make it even more crowded in there. LOL I'll still stick to 2 rooms unless they make the rooms that fit 5 or 6 more reasonably priced!

I run into that problem too. We order stuff for the kids, then forget we tacked on something for ourselves and then we hide the boxes until birthday or Christmas and then it's "D'oh!"
I've totally done that before, more than once. LOL
Oh yeah, you and what army?

(No, BIP, I was only joking, please don't hurt me, I promise to be go... Ow, that hurts.)

You better watch it! :lmao:

There is no such person as Theresa. She's Lisa's imaginary DIS friend.
:scared1:

It might be cheaper to hire a cab or limo for him! :confused3 At $4400 a year that works out to $12.05 a day... so OK, you can't get a limo - let alone a cab for that kind of money... but boy does that sound like a lot. I vaguely recall my Dad paid maybe $3000 a year for me to drive initially. I had NO idea how much that was worth back then. Of course... my memory may be very faulty on that figure too! ;)
Well now that you put it that way... I'm sure I spend close to that in gas driving my oldest back and forth to this and that. I could manage to pay that much for the insurance and let HER put the gas in her own vehicle (and it would take less gas than mine because she won't be needing to drive a gas guzzler like mine!)

:grouphug:
Nice try O'BWV.. you were doomed though- all alone going for the pirate with all those swabbies surrounding you! Sorry you didn't have more wench help there... it was too early and we were all busy taking kids to school, getting ready for work, etc. I guess!

o.k if your old then I am old because I also had my last kid in 93.:rotfl2::lmao: I had my first child in Jan '94

Yes, I hook up the hose at the bottom of the tank and run it out the heater room window to drain.

Why does that help? What does it do to drain it? I'm curious as I've never done that before...

Zoloft, Librax, and when the going gets really tough, Clonazepam. Just wait 'til your kids are 25, 16 and 13.

 if we could all get our drugs together and sell them we could eaisly pay for the cruise and tips and DL just gotta replenish them before we hit LAX we cant have a buch of cranky people on the magic;)

Your priest must not be as boring as our minister.

Our Pastor's homilies are so entertaining. He's an Italian-American and a New Yorker, so you can imagine what a great story teller he is.....Our Associate Pastor is a little hard to follow, though. He goes off on different tangents all of the time. I'll be focusing hard thinking "okay....I'm with ya....okay I see what your saying". Then all of a sudden "ooo...where'd ya go?"

Things went well , and for me was probably one of the hardest things I have had to do in what I consider still my young life ..LOL But I am back home in Vegas after making my peace and do feel that a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I have to be honest , the whole viewing thing was way creepy for me and I really didnt handle that well, but did make it through and couldnt wait to get back to hold my kids. I wish this man would have gotten to get to know his grandkids, but as I said I have made my peace and have forgiven him ...

I will be around a little today I still have MIL in town , but I at least wanted to write and say thank you all for being here and your nice wishes and prayers ...

Oh, that doesn't sound good at all. :( I am the same & ordered the medium. We'll see I guess.

Lisa..... I tried on PJ's thong style CROCS and they were big.....Amy's were the next size down 9ish and they fit me better....

But the closed in crocs are pretty true to size i have the Disney L ones (supposed to be a womens 10-11) I'd call them closer to a ten though.

The regular CROCS (non disney) beach style ones i have in a L seem to be a little bit bigger than the disney ones.

You might be ok...

Add xanax to the mix and you'll just pass out.

Alot of women I know who are afraid of flying only developed this fear after they had children.

This support group should include beverages.

Now if I could find something that would really knock me out I would be fine!:thumbsup2

OK still 20 pages back so bare with me....(gotta go sign up for P/T conferences at school and i'll be back to ketchup on the rest....

Took DD shopping after school and found her communion dress.:cutie: Now I just have to stunt her growth so it fits in 2 1/2 months!:rotfl:

Ok how small of a dress did you get..... I remember my DD's communion and she was taller than her teacher at the time and i was praying that her ladies size 5 shoes would still fit.... (they didn't have any of the pretty white shoes bigger at the time)

Now I was soo ready for Adam to get his license. He got his permit soon after he turned 16 and license about 7 months later. It was so nice to have him drive to football practices and school. He has really been responsible also no tickets or accidents. The worse part was insurance. For the 1st year it was $2200 every 6 months!!:scared1: But the rates have improved as he has gotten a little older. I hear the rates aren't as bad for girls.

i've heard around $1,200 here in MD for teen girls :scared1: ... i plan to keep her off our insurance for as long as possible. Been thinking about getting her a moped with restrictor on it. (cause it's not considered a vehicle)

Hello. My happy pill is Lexapro. :goodvibes

Yes Lexapro helped me get through some dark times, too.... Gave that up about 5 months ago though and i'm feeling better. Of course i got rid of that nasty job of mine from last year so that helped...

Does flying bother me........well I hate it, I detest it to the very core of my being. I'd rather visit the Gynecologist,

No problems with flying anymore. (just have to sit forward or over the wings)

Now going to get clamped is another matter..... i hold off on that as long as possible

Don't feel bad. We didn't heat the bottles after they were a few months. I did boil up water and keep it in the fridge,

My DD was a late spring baby (May 28) and of course that summer most of our days were over 100 degrees.... Needless to say i never felt the need to warm a bottle and she did just fine... She loved them cold..

That's how we catholics multi-task...get your spiritual and aerobic obligation out of the way at once!:rotfl2:

Tell me about it... i went to church last week (so two weeks out from my surgery) and i felt ouchy the rest of the day from all the standing sitting standing (oh we don't kneel because we're in an gymnasium and our church isn't built yet.) i used to hate the kneel stand kneel part.... so glad for the rest for the next couple years.

OK back in an hour or so..... and PS yay!!! my 1st multi- quote

My grandparents were so awesome.. now dont get me wrong... my parents are ok as well.. but my grandparents would give you the shirt of their back for you. I remember my kids would ask for something like their last orange and I knew they were not going shopping for several days.. and she would say sure sweetheart have it.. DD is 4'2" and she'll only be 8 at the end of next month. The dress is a size 12 so it should be okay. The 'new requirements' are that it's tea lenght. (My communion dress was mid thigh 30 years ago. )Her foot is only a 2, so that should work.

Congrats on the multi-quoting!!! It's addictive!;)

Brooke's magical moment.............we were waiting behind the ropes to disembark for Castaway. Brooke & I were discussing the clues to find the buried treasure. I had asked officer Bob about clue # 1. He smiled said he wasn't really supposed to say anything. He left, couple min later comes back and asks how many in our party? We told him 2 he said come with me. We went underneath the ropes and out the door to the gangway !! He made Brooke an honorary security officer.:goodvibes Brooke learned how to use the exray machine which she exrayed my bag.:rotfl2: Took a fake gun through and scan our cards to be first ones off the ship for like 5 mins. Can you imagine just having nothing in front of you and the whole Island to yourself? Even for a few min. It was awesome !!! Brooke used the walkie talkie to bridge to get the all clear. Later that day officer Bob came to our cabin and gave Brooke a magical moment certificate. Here are some pictures.

Oh and yes Bob gave us the answer to clue number 1, got the treasure in record time.:rotfl2:
Wow, what a wonderful experience. And memories to last a lifetime!!!

Unless, of course, you are allergic to Codein! :thumbsup2 I am, and it must be reasonably common since there is usually a checkbox nowdays for it on medical forms (I used to have to check "Other" and write in it) - However, it seems to be something hospital staff don't think to check. I KNOW it is listed in my record, but they gave me codein after DS7 was born (in a form of tylenol?) and we only found out because I started getting loopy and DH went and asked what was going on.

Good luck with ANGELINA getting her permit..

Funny thing is, Angelina said she really isn't all that interested in driving just yet, but thought it would be a good idea to have her license incase she and Hazel are out, and Hazel doesn't feel like driving home. Hazel had a little fender bender accident the other day, nothing serious, but she is really starting to worry me with her driving, back in June she had totaled our new car, only had it six months at the time.

Hazel was in her 30's before she got her driver's license.

Oh well, got to grab some lunch, be back soon. ;)

I want my wife back." Well I was really happy, but apparently a little too happy for his taste. I'm sure I could've gotten a lower dose or something, but I just stopped taking it.

Are you considering having children? To determine whether you are truly prepared for the experience, we suggest you take this set of simple tests...

MESS TEST:
Smear peanut butter on the sofa and curtains. Now rub your hands in the wet flower bed and rub on the walls. Cover the stains with crayons. Place a fish stick behind the couch and leave it there all summer.

TOY TEST:
Obtain a 55-gallon box of Legos. (If Legos are not available, you may substitute roofing tacks or broken bottles). Have a friend spread them all over the house. Put on a blindfold. Try to walk to the bathroom or kitchen. Do not scream (this could wake a child at night).

GROCERY STORE TEST:
Borrow one or two small animals (goats are best) and take them with you as you shop at the grocery store. Always keep them in sight and pay for anything they eat or damage.

DRESSING TEST:
Obtain one large, unhappy, live octopus. Stuff into a small net bag making sure that all arms stay inside.

FEEDING TEST:
Obtain a large plastic milk jug. Fill halfway with water. Suspend from the ceiling with a stout cord. Start the jug swinging. Try to insert spoonfuls of soggy cereal (such as Cheerios) into the mouth of the jug while pretending to be an airplane. Now dump the contents of the jug on the floor.

NIGHT TEST:
Prepare by obtaining a small cloth bag and fill it with 8 to 12 pounds of sand. Soak it thoroughly in water. At 8:00 PM begin to waltz and hum with the bag until 9:00 PM. Lay down your bag and set your alarm for 10:00 PM. Get up, pick up your bag, and sing every song you have ever heard. Make up about a dozen more new ones and sing these too until 4:00 AM. Set alarm for 5:00 AM. Get up and make breakfast. Keep this up for five years. Look cheerful.

PHYSICAL TEST (WOMEN)
Obtain a large beanbag chair and attach it to the front of your clothes. Leave it there for 9 months. Now remove 10% of the beans.

PHYSICAL TEST (MEN):
Go to the nearest drug store. Set your wallet on the counter. Ask the assistant to help himself. Now proceed to the nearest grocery store. Go to HR and arrange for your wages to be directly deposited to the store. Purchase a newspaper. Go home and read it quietly for the last time.

FINAL ASSIGNMENT:
Find a couple who already have a small child. Lecture them on how they can improve their discipline, patience, tolerance, toilet training, and child's table manners. Suggest many ways they can improve. Emphasize to them that they should never allow their children to cause havoc. Enjoy this experience. It will be the last time you will have all the answers.

Hi there everyone,
I am way behind on posts but won't have time to play ketchup until later today. But I wanted to see if you all great minds could help me with a game I am trying to put together for our Adult Sunday School class. Mark and I are in the process of putting together a road rally. All that part is done but we are trying to get some games together that we can do after the party. We are going to have about 60 people. We are thinking kind of mini type of scavenger hunt done like they do the Quest on RCCl except this would be a PG version, since it is a church group and I don't think they would appreciate some of the not so PG type of things that happen on the Quest. Any way, they would have to be divided into groups/team probably 4 - 5 team and then they would get points for the 1st team to come up with what ever the request is. They only have what they come in the room with. So, I have things like, 1st man to get to the center of the room wearing ladies shoes, or man wearing lipstick (don't tell them it doesn't need to be on their lips), 1st women to do the chicken dance, Find someone in your group wearing red toe polish. Man who can name our leaders nick name for his wife. .
That sort of thing. Pretty tame but still fun. I was hoping if I threw this out to you all that you might be able to come up with some thing that I can add to this game. That way when I do get to read the posts I might be able to get that game out of the way at the same time.
I also have to come up with a few gag prizes.

Thanks gang. See ya later. :grouphug:

...oops, i think i missed your comments bucks#1 fan... .

* maybe i go out on limb, but it just the way i think about family
values and any disney trip. i didn't appricated my wife & family
blessings ,say 20 or 10 years ago,,,,it was a learning process.
it was true, that on our first cruise in 99..i was draging my feet
as hard as i could..my wife set all that up, & her family didn't
give her any more support than me. :rolleyes1 . in the end, we
discovered alot about ourselves that were on agenda...
i remember her parents..we're not going to be stuck baby sitting"
at the end they 're begging for jordan...who knows what we're
all getting into...but i just like to say...everyone being brave in
telling their stories has made this a very interesting and heart-
warming site. for one example, v.man, it did my heart good that
you reported sharing gave you comfort...though my professional
career laced me into similar situations of life and death..it was
nothing compared to experiencing on your family level. i don't
think i could have fill your shoes...the things you gave, at
such a young age. or lisa taking on her school principle, besides
encouraging her, i hope others will do the same...that's why i told
the wal mart story..."it's takes a community to raised children up
where they feel safe and "valued". let's say, i am ver defensive
toward my children. yes, i've been into confrontations including the
courts. but underneath, the same feelings are what driving us to seek
a dcl cruise...the good things. thank you miss judy girl for bringing
us all together....* while most of my comments are humorous, i
think this is going to be the best cruise ever, just from the people
going.

ok, i can't find the author postings "the way we were"....but thank
you..not only true....but sure made me :lmao: . boy! it bought back
to the one christmas i was lucky enough to have gotten a "cherry"
red -banna bicycle..with a varoom motor?

I paid $126 every 6 months for insurance in the late '80s as a secondary driver on my parents' cars. I think it was $400/year in '91 when I was out of college & had my own new car.

This is one of those things that GREATLY varies by state. I got my license in 85 and my folks put me on my own policy in NJ. Good idea as a parent if you have some big assets to lose, like a house. I had a '79 Toyota Corolla and took driver's ed and got a good student discount. It still cost them about $2000 per year. :scared1: One of the reasons why I won't 'cross the river' back into NJ...what we pay for 3 cars to insure well wouldn't cover the cost of 1 in NJ. :scared1: No accidents or tickets either.

no! no room assignment...but we paid our downpayment? does that
mean we on? [for sure?] we must have 2 rooms, and the ways this
cruise went has made me into a "nervous wreck!"......[ my boys are
really looking for it].

andrew?....i don't mean to be intrusive, but since you went on the first
one, may i asked your feelings about it? [ iam most interested in what
your family told you *** that' my concerns ].
secondly, even though its been 30 years from the days i back packed
england/eruope...from a cultural stand point....i felt from the begining
the co. made a hugh mistake ...placing a disny park in paris instead
of anywhere in england...[our family has a french heritage] but based
on history...we always matched up more with england? do you mind
expressing your take on this? [iam just wondering ]

Oh well, got to grab some lunch, be back soon. ;)

Oh no! Sounds like Hazel is having a rough spell with the driving.

There have been lots of little fender benders due to the weather. I hope she's ok!

Hello everyone ...First let me say THANK YOU for all the well wishes , Its great to know in a internet world like this that people can come together and share.

On mine the CC shows up on the line under the email address and if you click that- it shows the box with all the email addys on the contact list and gives the choice of sending to email, CC or BCC there. I haven't figured out how to get BCC to actually show right there on the email "form" so to speak. Okay, figured out how to get the BCC field to show up whenever you start a new email message - at least if you're using MSWord as your editor.

1) Open a new message
2) Click on the arrow on the menu bar that is next to the "Options" button
3) Click on "Bcc" - from then on the Bcc field should show up on all new messages

(Here's the link for Help that even has a little animation to show what to do... http://office.microsoft.com/training/Training.aspx?AssetID=RP010515511033# (http://office.microsoft.com/training/Training.aspx?AssetID=RP010515511033))

Seriously though. Have the folks who are afraid of flying thought about learning how to do it? Or at least the ground school portion, and may be a couple of lessons? It might help if you have a good understanding of what is really going on. I know that on past flights DH (who is a private pilot) has talked to seatmates who are afraid of flying. "So, now this is going to happen, and this is what the plane will feel like, and this is what the pilot is doing now." They said it really helped them

Ground school is available on DVD these days. Heck you could probably pick up a used set on eBay.

Well, it might help if they let me actually FLY the plane!:lmao:

Hello everyone ...First let me say THANK YOU for all the well wishes , Its great to know in a internet world like this that people can come together and share.

Well...

... this really interests me cuz right now I have two little girls (age 3 and 5) trying to sleep or asleep on either side of me. I used to think - do normal folks do this? That is cuddle up with their kids to put them asleep? I've heard mention that some folks absolutely do not do this kind of thing ... while others very simply nod and smile graciously. While still others have remarked that the kids seem to be much "closer" with the parents this way. We sort of alternate a bit with my spouse sometimes substituting for me - and vice versa.

Tonight - for example, we were all supposed to hang with Mom as she was traveling one nite for a business dinner... and at the last moment we canceled on following her. You see... overnite they forecast rain in the area... and this means when it is cold enough we get enough SNOW to close the highway between her hotel and home. Meaning we would NOT be able to return home tomorrow in time for school. Also, if we went along then Mom would not have an easy option of simply staying away from home another nite and working out there. SO... I stayed home with the kids and Mom has a nite alone - and an easy option to return home if the roads are clear OR stay another nite away and work there IF the roads are closed.

At any rate... we were still unclear about how we would approach getting the kids to sleep alone or just the two of them together... as some have suggested. I was toying with the idea of shopping for kids furniture with them with say 2 beds in a cris cross bunk bed like configuration. Or maybe get them into two seperate bedrooms. SHoot... I am mildly confused and totally undecided on the matter now... but it IS something I am looking forward to - so my spouse and I can return to every nite being like it was before we had the kids.

Oldest DD could not sleep with us. Strange but true. If she was having trouble sleeping and I brought her in our bed, she could not fall asleep. I think she has only slept in our bed a handful of times total. DD #2 didn't start coming to our bed until she was at least 4 or 5. DD #3 loves to sleep with us. We do have a weekend only rule though.

Eventhough we have 4 bedrooms, I liked the idea of the girls sharing a room. DD#1 and 2 did until about 2 years ago. All 3 girls have their own room now. But now DD #2 and #3 are going to start sharing a room as soon as I get a bed for DD #1 so that DD #3 can use hers (she is still in a toddler bed).

Watching AI right now.....am I the only one who likes Blake, the beat box guy? He's my pick so far!Nope, we like him around this house, too. He's unique and doesn't sound like the rest of pack. Beat boxing isn't really my thing, but it certainly makes Blake stand out.

All the other guys just sound like, as Simon would say, lounge acts. I loved the line last night about the Love Boat! :rotfl: (The comeback was pretty good, too.)

Are you considering having children? To determine whether you are truly prepared for the experience, we suggest you take this set of simple tests...

I'd be laughing, it if weren't so darn true.

1) more cabins that will fit 5 and 6 people
2) more connecting cabins

3) more "Main Dining" options

I think it is entirely a matter of preference whether you support the "family bed" movement or not. For us, it was fine when they were babies and even toddlers, but we really wanted them to be independent of us. I was not happy when grandma (MIL) wanted the 6 year old to sleep with her (when we visited from the other side of the country). Made me very uncomfortable and I had to put my foot down.

We've had both boys in the same bedroom since birth. Selfishly it's because I need a separate office in the house for my business. We have thought about splitting our bonus room over the garage to use for half office / half homeschool & play room, but it would be very cramped for schooling. So the boys are going to continue sharing (at DS10 & DS 12). They are really ready for their own spaces, but we hope to move into a bigger house in the next year or two so that should eleviate the challenge . . .or I'll have to take smaller office space (then it costs us money in taxes . . yuck!)

Cool thing about families is figuring out what works best for you. There doesn't always seem to be THE RIGHT answer, but A right answer . . .

Yes, it is recommended you open the drain valve every six months and let about a few gallons of water drain out. This water will likely be murky with all the rust and sediment. If you don't do this, sediment can build up and eventually damage the heating element.

Some people recommend shutting the tank off and draining it completely once a year.

I know the feeling Diane . . Got married at 27, had DS#1 at 28 and DS#2 at 30 (just days from being 31). Wouldn't change it for the world . . .LOL. Glad I had time to travel, meet some of my professional goals, and live life before children. My only wish was that I had more time with DH before we started having kids. Guess we'll have lots of time once they are grown and gone :) My best friend in high school got pregnant at 17 (and married) and had twins at 21. She was divorced by 30 and is now exploring what life is like. Her oldest is grown and the twins should be finished with school soon. She has the rest of her life to enjoy and still be young :) Guess it just depends on how things work out . . . I found my DH at just the right time :) And he's a keeper!

25 Ways to Tell You’re Grown Up

1. Your houseplants are alive, and you can’t smoke any of them.

2. Having sex in a twin bed is out of the question.

3. You keep more food than beer in the fridge.

4. 6:00 am is when you get up, not when you go to bed.

5. You hear your favourite songs on the elevator.

6. You watch the weather channel.

7. Your friends marry and divorce, instead of “hook up” and “break up.”

8. You go from 130 days of vacation time to 14 days.

9. Jeans and a sweater no longer qualify as “dressed up.”

10. You’re the one calling the police because those @$%#! kids next door won’t turn down the stereo.

11. Older relatives feel comfortable telling sex jokes around you.

12. You don’t know what time Taco Bell closes anymore.

13. Your car insurance goes down and your car payments go up.

14. You feed your dog Science Diet instead of McDonald’s leftovers.

15. Sleeping on the couch makes your back hurt.

16. You take naps.

17. Dinner and a movie is the whole date instead of the beginning of one.

18. Eating a basket of chicken wings at 3 am would severely upset, rather than settle, your stomach.

19. You go to the drug store for Ibuprofen and antacid, not condoms and pregnancy tests.

20. A $4.00 bottle of wine is no longer ‘Pretty good ****.”

21. You actually eat breakfast food at breakfast time.

22. “I just can’t drink the way I used to” replaces “I’m never going to drink that much again.”

23. 90% of the time you spend in front of a computer is for real work.

24. You drink at home to save money before going to a bar.

25. When you find out your friend is pregnant you congratulate them instead of asking “Oh ****, what the hell happened?”

26. Bonus: You read this entire list looking desperately for one sign that doesn’t apply to you and can’t find one to save your sorry old add.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Too funny (and too true)!

23. 90% of the time you spend in front of a computer is for real work.

26. Bonus: You read this entire list looking desperately for one sign that doesn’t apply to you and can’t find one to save your sorry old add.

90% of the time I spend in front of a computer is for posting here.

I love the British term "takeaway" Makes much more sense (and so much more elegant) than TO GO . ..LOL Can you tell I watch a lot of old British comedy on PBS . . .LOL DH thinks I'm silly and it was his mum that was from England . . .:lmao::lmao:

I know its a British insitution the takeaway as I posed I remembered the USA version.

Indian Takaway, Chinese, pizza, never see to go here??

I do prefer the USA restrooms to our loo's it sounds more posh!

We met when I was 23, got married when I was 25, and I kept putting off having kids till we were more financially secure. Just wasn't happening so when I hit 30, I said that's it time for kids! Actually I'm glad I didn't end up having kids in my early 20's, because I wasn't ready yet. I might've still acted like my mother & used her as a role model. That's scary! :scared1: Heck we'll still be young when they're all grown up & we can start partying all over again! http://bbweb.free.fr/SMILEYS/fiesta.gif

Still 5 pages buck, but I'll get in the responses I've got "collected up" now...

Welcome Home Todd. I hope you find peace and healing.

Well...
... this really interests me cuz right now I have two little girls (age 3 and 5) trying to sleep or asleep on either side of me. I used to think - do normal folks do this?

...

DS9 and DS5 share a room. DS9 is in a loft bed, and DS5 has a twin. It works well for them. Eventually, they may demand being split up - and I'll loose my office :sad1: . But for now it's good. They're pretty tight despite the age difference.

DS5 still asks for one of us to lay down with him. And he does fall asleep faster when we are there. How much of that is becasue we keep them from telling jokes all night? :confused3 We're weaning him off of that now - and we only lay down with him 3 or 4 times a week. And we've let him know that once he turns 6 - we won't do it any more. Of course that's at the end of July. So, he's got a long time to get used to the idea.

However, some other rumors are quite true about using glue for holding skimpy swimsuits in place and surgical tape to add to the appearance and refinement of cleavage.

So that's how it's done!!

:rolleyes1 . in the end, we
discovered alot about ourselves that were on agenda...
i remember her parents..we're not going to be stuck baby sitting"
at the end they 're begging for jordan...who knows what we're
all getting into...but i just like to say...everyone being brave in
telling their stories has made this a very interesting and heart-
warming site. for one example, v.man, it did my heart good that
you reported sharing gave you comfort...though my professional
career laced me into similar situations of life and death..it was
nothing compared to experiencing on your family level. i don't
think i could have fill your shoes...the things you gave, at
such a young age. or lisa taking on her school principle, besides
encouraging her, i hope others will do the same...that's why i told
the wal mart story..."it's takes a community to raised children up
where they feel safe and "valued". let's say, i am ver defensive
toward my children. yes, i've been into confrontations including the
courts. but underneath, the same feelings are what driving us to seek
a dcl cruise...the good things. thank you miss judy girl for bringing
us all together....* while most of my comments are humorous, i
think this is going to be the best cruise ever, just from the people
going. ...

:grouphug:

I agree. This is going to be a great cruise. We will find a way to pay for this trip. How could I do a no show with family??

Well, I've sacrificed myself for my children. I'm working from home this week (get more work done, and I get to goof off with you guys at lunch!) and what did I find in the pantry? A can of Spaghetti-Os!! How on earth did they get there? Maybe they came home with DH afer his last weekend away for reserves?

Anyway, to protect my children from the corrupting influence of Spaghetti-O's. I ate 'em. :guilty:

In case you were wondering... they haven't changed in the last 30 years.

I have to be honest , the whole viewing thing was way creepy for me and I really didnt handle that well, but did make it through and couldnt wait to get back to hold my kids. I wish this man would have gotten to get to know his grandkids, but as I said I have made my peace and have forgiven him ...

Welcome back! I agree with you about viewings. When the favorite of my 12 aunts died they had a viewing for her. My mom insisted that I go see her one last time. "Why?" I asked, "I remember her exactly how she was, I don't need to see her unnaturally posed." But mom wouldn't hear anything of it and made me go. I was 25 at the time and then began to realize, it wasn't for me, it was for her because this was her eldest sister and she could barely walk into the funeral home. :sad1:

However, THE creepiest situation was when my aunt's husband (same aunt) died some 4 or 5 years earlier. The church service was open casket! And what's worse, as the preacher was whipping the congregation up...THEY WHEELED THE OPEN CASKET OVER TO US FAMILY MEMBERS IN THE FRONT PEWS!!! :scared:   It was at that point that my aunt utterly broke down into hysterics! Up until then she was calm and contained but that didn't jibe with the http://mazeguy.net/angry/censored.gif preacher's plans! He wanted her to loose it because he was working the crowd!

When DW's mother died in a tragic house fire, we had to have a closed casket but DW would have done that anyway because she doesn't like the idea of seeing people posed like that. She got really sad this week because DS won't ever get to know either of her parents. :sad1:

That is so cool!!! :cool1:

I love listening to our pastors talk on marriage. They've been married over 40 years. They also had their kids young so they talk about how great it is that they have been together longer after kids :)

I keep thinking about the same with my grandparents. They got married when my grandma was 15! (that war bride thing . . going off to WWII). My grandfather has been very ill and my grandmother is just now realizing she might have to live on her own for the first time in 60 years! What a big change!

It's nice to see folks that stick out their marriages. I'm so thankful to have my own personal knight in shining armor!

25 Ways to Tell You’re Grown Up

25. When you find out your friend is pregnant you congratulate them instead of asking “Oh ****, what the hell happened?”

How to know you're Middle-Aged

When you find out your friend is pregnant you ask "Oh ****, what the hell happened?" instead of congratulating them.

...

They are really ready for their own spaces, but we hope to move into a bigger house in the next year or two so that should eleviate the challenge . . .or I'll have to take smaller office space (then it costs us money in taxes . . yuck!)

So it turned into a problem at 12? Shoot! I was hoping to keep them together until DS9 hit high school.

UGH! I lost my quotes!
Here are some semi-coherent responses anyway:

DSs (6&8) share a room now, they have since they were 1 & 3. We have 4 bedrooms, but it is much easier to have a toy room than 2 kid bedrooms with toys all over both. We really need a guestroom too, since we never live anywhere near family. We asked them last week if they would still like to share a room in our next house. They said yes! We never did the co-sleeping thing, but the youngest likes to get up early in the morning to climb in and cuddle with us.

I don't think I had my kids early or late. DH & I are a year & a half apart - we & I met at 14-15, started dating at 17-18, married on my 22nd birthday & had DS#1 about a month before I turned 26 & DS#2 when I was 27. It works out well for us since DH can retire from the military 3 months before our oldest starts HS. That means we won't have to move them during HS & may actually have the = of 2.5 incomes to pay for two kids in college at the same time! DH will need to go out and get a real job, I'm not going to let him reitre, retire when he is 42!

Besidess...there may be more tripofalifetimes to pay for! SSSHhhhhh . . .

I'd almost forogtten about takeaways...

While snooping around on the web I came across the "UK Holiday Guide to Walt Disney World and Orlando, Florida" http://www.kissimmee-us192.com/british/ and I thought, "Why on earth would Brits need a guide on what to eat?" But then I realized the guide also gave some very good (and important) driving tips and assistance...like showing what a multi-lane, multi-light intersection looks like!

But on the subject of food, it was pretty funny...especially when talking about buffets:
Kids just go mad, once they get the idea and loose any inhibitions, running around loading up with chicken nuggets mainly. Adults though need some extra help.

You will see people starring blankly at menus before they order, after they order and when they leave, trying to figure it out 'after the event'... They also sit with this empty plate before them not knowing quite what to do. Waiters seem to drift past with a smirk sometimes unable to explain to you what to do next, you know that these people are Brits...:rotfl:

Doesn't sound crazy at all . . . my mother died when I was 17 and there was a "viewing" . . . it was the strangest and most surreal thing ever. My preference would be not to even be embalmed, which I think is a weird practice, and have a "green" burial somewhere where they just plant you under a tree in a sack and let you fertilize the earth, but cremation would be a second choice if the first was too hard for my family to figure out.
