Yes, I whipped through those too! At some point I started speed reading - we don't know when, but I was doing it by 5th grade. Some of my favorite authors were Louisa May Alcott and Noel Streatfeild. Actually, I still go back and reread Noel Streatfeild - you may have heard of her book "Ballet Shoes", but she wrote tons of others. Many of them you could only get in Britain, but since my parents traveled quite a bit on business back then, they would bring them back for me.

Actually, I tend to like British authors - my two favorite authors for adult literature are Dorothy Sayers (I  Peter Whimsey) and Terry Pratchett. If you ever try Pratchett - just don't read him in public ... It is really embarassing when you fall off your chair laughing - REALLY embarassing....

pdarrah (Pamela)

I'm a spead reader too. Whipped through Alcott and graduated to Jane Austen and Conan Doyle. I'm an avid mystery reader and really love British authors and characters - Colin Dexter, PD James, Anne Perry - and American authors who write stories based in Britian or have British characters - Elizabeth George and Elizabeth Peters. But I will also read just about anything that catches my interest - huge Harry Potter fan, have appointments with Joe (not allowed to call it a date anymore:confused3) to see HP V at the movies and go to the B&N midnight madness party the following week.

I just read earlier today that you are supposed to get new pillows every two years, also that you are supposed to get a new mattress every seven! Now, I can maybe see the pillows (though I would bet mine would go for three or four) but 7 years for a mattress? Sorry, I'm waiting longer than that!

Wonder who wrote that report? :rolleyes1

Isn't it amazing the difference between then & now. I remember that child abuse was just starting to be a buzz word when I was in 7th or 8th grade. I went to a Catholic school where he was on the board at the CU, belonged to the men's club, was a 4th degree KofC, and BS leader. Big whoop! :sad2: Everyone ignored the fact that I walked into the school with a black eye twice. When the kids asked me who did it I said it was my dad.

Today...you have to worry if your child falls on their bike and gets a bad bruise because CPS could be called in.

This is getting really freaky - you just described my father, except for the BS leader - he never got overly involved with my brother like that.

Hey that was a really nice thing for you guys to do. We got a Best Buy Code from Ebay for MSG and a Fan Club Code for Giants Stadium. We bought the MSG not knowing they were coming to GS. I'd much rather tailgate and sit under the stars at GS than MSG anyday, so we might sell the MSG tix. Not sure right now. BTW the MSG tix were MUCH more $$$ than the GS tix, another reason for selling the MSG ones. Does your brother know you bought him the tixs?? Again, that was a really nice thing to do!

:scared1: I don't know what to put after the blah, blah, blah for that. :confused3 :lmao:

Another unusual story revealed

While on the Disney Magic one cruise I was enjoying pre dinner cocktails with BLI Jack (aka Fincantieri). We had Cat. 4's with balconies non conecting. I was with my 2 year old daughter in the room at the time. DW was with older DD at the movies. We were passing drinks over the bacony to one another our balcony doors were open. I ran out into the hallway to speak to our Host and the draft pulled the door out of my hands shut. My 2 year old DD was locked in the room. Host had vanished. So I knocked on Jacks door and told him that DD was locked inside my stateroom and my key was locked in the room also. So I ran to his balcony and proceeded to climb over his balcony onto mine in my intoxicated state the boat was cruising at @ 20mph. Jack being less insane grabbed me and pulled me back onto his balcony. Just then Jacks DW came in. We told her what happened and she found a Hostess who opened our stateroom door. DD was safe inside as if nothing happened.

Double EWWWWWW!!

It's bad enough the pool's become people soup! It horrible to think it becomes a different kind of soup (that also starts with P) as well!

Gives a whole new meaning to the expression: If it's yellow let it mellow. If it's brown.......well you know the rest!

I guess that we have been lucky to not have that problem at the MP when we have been on the ship.

I have never bought or sold on EBay.

LOL! The kids tell me to look it up on Ebay. :lmao: DS resently got interested in YuGiOh cards after getting some at McDs. I found him 200 cards + some bonus cards for under $20 shipped...much better than in the stores. He isn't allowed to play against anyone or give any of them away but he enjoys reading them & sort them into groups. DD knows that if there is something in a McDs happy meal that she would like the set of...I can go to a bookmarked seller to get them cheaply. ;)

I think the last movie I saw at a theater was Narnia. I've seen a few of DS7's DVDs here at home (like Cars) but that is about it for movies. DH has the Oscars on - I think he is also reading a magazine. Nancy Drew here!

I have the entire series up to high school. They are the double book set with the purple hard covers. I have them out in the garage for the kids along with many more. I have been bringing them inside and airing them out with fabreeze as DS can read them. He has my LH series...with the .85 & .95 prices on the front. OK, Time for tonights Blast from the Past! I read another 900 back-pages today AND kept up with the current thread :woohoo: IF I can keep it up, I'll be caught up by the end of the week

I think I was slowed down today because I kept getting tears in my eyes - lots of sad/happy DISer stories last Sunday/Monday....

maureen, I find if I start a project DH will always finish it. He thinks I don't know what I am doing.:thumbsup2

Yes, I think it is the SRY (sex-determination region) gene of the Y chromosome that activates the "PNA" base pair within males...where PNA, of course, means PAY NO ATTENTION! So, you see, it's genetic and men can't change that any more than they can change the size of their feet! :lmao:
There have been Hunter ceiling fans that were 75% off at Target years ago in the loft in our garage waiting to go in the kid's rooms so they aren't so humid in the summer months. :rolleyes1

:lmao: That's ok. I got a kitchen sink and faucet this Christmas and it's still in the box, in the family room. We're waiting to put in a new kitchen counter before it gets put in. I'll post a picture when it's done....maybe in 2 years:sad2:

We have been renovating/remodeling our 100 year old house since 1990!! Yes - over 16, nearly 17 years!:scared1: Although tons of progress has been made in that time (all new electrical, all new plumbing, new roof, new kitchen, new bath, etc.) you wouldn't believe the unfinished projects. For some reason finishing the trim/moulding is a biggie - there are rooms that have needed just that to be complete for over 12 years. The "new" bath was functionally completed over 7 years ago - but the trim and little finishing touches are still not done. I do try and do some of the projects myself, but DH is a total perfectionist and will usually step in and take away any project I start (it doesn't always get finished, but it gets to a point where it is beyond my abilities! ) Part of it is that as soon as the weather gets good outside, he drops all indoor projects like a rock and goes out to garden. House projects only get done between November and April - and of course not much can be done in December because of all the holiday stuff going on and the THOUSANDS of lights that MUST be put up outside :rotfl2:

Our DS was also the NICU bully - full-term 21 inches 7lbs. 9 oz. The nurses would fight over him because he could be picked up and cuddled.

Our DS7 was one of those also. He was 2 weeks late. We went through 24 hours of labor (after the water broke) and then an emergency c-section. Like Sk8tingmom, I'm not going to go into details - but I will NEVER go through that again! DS7 ended up in the NICU for a week and was by far the biggest, healthiest baby there. I wasn't able to visit much, but DH was there a lot and every time one of us arrived we had to look around for him since one of the nurses would be holding him and he wouldn't be in his crib. I was sent home after 3 days (with strict instruction that I could visit 1 time per day for 30 minutes). DS came home on Mother's Day and the nurses sent a geranium with him as his mother's day gift for me. We still have that geranium - it is in a large pot and goes outside each summer and then gets overwintered in our basement under a light.

On the topic of braces.
I had mine for 8 years!!!!! My teeth were slow movers and I had numersous extractions!
Chrissie

Lucky me had braces twice! The first time I was pre-teen and one of my adult teeth came in behind the baby tooth. They pulled that one into position and straighted some other teeth then. At that time, no one really paid attention to "Bite" .... sooooo, in my mid-twenties I started having pain in my jaw due to my bite being misaligned and got to have braces again. It was MUCH worse having them as an adult - people notice it more and are constantly asking "Why - your teeth are already straight!"

Well, she's a little shy, so 1000 people coming up to her and asking her if she is "SWMBO" will be a little intimidating. I doubt she will wear a black shirt -- she will want to go incognito.

Considering how many of us DISers will be on that ship, she might stand out more by NOT wearing a black shirt! :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

DS came home on Mother's Day and the nurses sent a geranium with him as his mother's day gift for me. We still have that geranium - it is in a large pot and goes outside each summer and then gets overwintered in our basement under a light.
pdarrah (Pamela)

It is always that way around here too. Just 1 little something stays undone or gets broke and it seems it is like that al loooong time. DH is outside as soon as the weather breaks too. I think he is more proud of our yard than our home.

That is wonderful that you still have the plant. I have not the tiniest of green in any of my fingers.

Sorry I vaporized there for a minute. I just had to Ebay a spf product. I mentioned on Thurs night I was undergoing roseacea treatment. It consists of 5 fotofacial treatments spaced one month apart.........wait a minute....is Jennifer Hudson about to POP out of that dress :scared1: but I digress. During and after the treatments Dermatologist said I need to be very diligent about sun protection year round and need UVA and UVB protection. I just picked up some Dr. Denese products that contain both UVA & UVB. Need this stuff before I go to Florida next month. Even on Ebay the stuff is $$$. But since the treatments are $300 each and not covered by insurance, what another couple of bucks. I mentioned in chat Fri. night that my nose is turning purple in spots and it's awful really. I'm only 46! Anyway, just from the first treatment I'm already seeing an improvement! Maybe I'll be back to causcasian again before our cruise. You know when people say I don't care if you're black, white or purple.........they're talking about me :rotfl: :rotfl:

We are now the proud owners of "Grumpy's Train House" Guess where we'll be spending our weekends? Kev has dreamt of owning a model train shop for a looong time and I'm happy for him. I told him we could do it,as long as we still get to go on the cruise next year AND I still get my motorcycle.

So, if anybody's into model trains or model ships, let us know.

We started renovating this house a few years ago & it's at a stand still. We put on a farmer's porch, new siding, & all new windows but same thing...no trim or paint! We still want to renovate the kitchen & 2 baths & then put it on the market. I have a 2 story colonial built in the 70's, but I hate going up & down the stairs, there is no storage, no closet space, no laundry room & the neighbors all have raised ranches & look right into my back yard. I hate it! :sad2:

We are starting to get freezing rain here and then snow later. That means the stores will have a run on bread and milk. The schools will probably be closed too. We transported northerners know how to drive in this and we just chuckle at this.

Talk to you later!

We started as some frozen rain. We were in the middle of our last official GS cookie booth and boy did we do good. 145 boxes in 2 hours!!:thumbsup2 We are now down to the nitty gritty.

It did turn into a beautiful snow for an hour or so before it turned back into frozen rain then just plain old rain. Too often we only get to see the snow for a very short time before it gets washed aeay. *sigh*

I will reveal a story I think even my wife doesn't know:

While in Vienna Austria visiting friends we were having a good time with food and drink. My friends dared me and a friend to dress up as women and take a walk through a naughty section of town. To make a long story short we were arrested and taken to the Police Station and questioned. After we explained our acts the Policemen in the station wanted to take pictures with us.
I guess it had to be the large jewel encrusted butterfly I had pinned to my sweater. I think I have a picture somewhere in the attic. Must dig it out.

This was the only time I was arrested.

Yes, we MUST see a picture of this!:rotfl:

Health isnusrance is a real bummer for us self-employed. We ended up going with a Health Savings Account plan. We have a $5300 ded. before our insurance will pay a dime and then they pick up 100%. We deposit the ded. amount into an account that works like a debit card to pay for any medical related expenses.

We looked into doing that a few years ago, but it seemed to be almost as much as regular insurance!

Caroline, It would have cost us roughly $17,000 (1450 mon) for great coverage. DS has allergies, exzema,ADD and asthma(when he was young.) I had 2 herniated disks and psorasis. Our HSA is about $4500 (360 mon) + $5300 we put on the card. It saves us a little over $7000 a year. The thing that I like the best about it is that what ever we don't use on the debit card stays there and grows. We had been fairly healthy the last 3 years, but DH knee surgery will take all of this years deposit.

I was a full time live in nanny while waiting for OCS classdate to arrive for almost a year...started with a 6 mo & 2 yo. The mother was a PM RN & the father a cheif on a ship. Many days the mother saw the girls while they ate breakfast as she passed thru on her way to bed. I fixed dinner & she came out ready to go to work. They couldn't take the fact that the baby had seperation anxiety from me and not them. One thing that experience made me realize was that I didn't want anyone else raising my kids IF I ever had them. At that point I was still career minded going into the Naval intel division to travel the world. On our trip thru Nova Scotia that is one thing that DH2B & I talked about...just 4 months after we had met. IF I ever had kids, I wanted to raise them. (please don't take this as anything against anyone who is not a SAHM...this is just what I learned thru my experience because I saw how the mother resented me) I am lucky enough that DH has a job that allows me to be here for the kids. Of course, we live in pohdunk, NC and the great rate I worked up to before staying home of 7.24 ph in 1998. That was quite the drop for me from working in VA so it doesn't pay for me to go to work here in the long run. When & if we move closer to a big city where I could have something left after daycare...I will probably return to an office. I have been thinking about getting into a job that I can do from home like medical billing though.

There were times when as a SAHD I was having mixed roller coaster feelings... I want to be more productive - but then WHAT can you do between 11AM and 5PM 4 days a week ... and at random times you can't really work if someone is ill or some kids' activity starts up - like gymnastics, soccor, karate or t-ball? So I plug away somewhat effecttually at my business of 18 years. It self sustains itself at an idle but competition is effectively eroding my accumulated volume.

I used to think if this conhtinues then eventually I'll be ready to bag groceries at the market. It was real depression I felt at times over the years and this was mixed with the satisfaction of observing and guiding our kids through various needs and diversions. Sweet and sour... an odd mixture outside of a chinese dish, eh?

Condolences to those with recent losses.

Congrats to all the award winners; that looked like a fun list to compile!

Andy, I'm not happy to hear that the snow has started! Hope you won't have to deal with ice tomorrow.

In the spirit of the oldies e-mail, I will pass on this one I received:

Some of the artists of the 60's are revising their hits with new lyrics

to accommodate aging baby Boomers. They include:

Herman's Hermits--- Mrs.. Brown, You've Got a Lovely Walker.

Ringo Starr--- I Get By With a Little Help From Depends(Andy?);)

The Bee Gees--- How Can You Mend a Broken Hip.

Bobby Darin--- Splish, Splash, I Was Havin' a Flash.

Roberta Flack--- The First Time Ever I Forgot Your Face.

Johnny Nash--- I Can't See Clearly Now.

Paul Simon--- Fifty Ways to Lose Your Liver

The Commodores--- Once, Twice, Three Times to the Bathroom.

Procol Harem--- A Whiter Shade of Hair.

Leo Sayer--- You Make Me Feel Like Napping.

The Temptations --- Papa's Got a Kidney Stone.

Abba--- Denture Queen.

Tony Orlando--- Knock 3 Times On The Ceiling If You Hear Me Fall.

Helen Reddy--- I Am Woman, Hear Me Snore.

Leslie Gore--- It's My Procedure, and I'll Cry If I Want To.

And my favorite:

Willie Nelson--- On the Commode Again

Not really...

... I am like anyone else in most ways (I suspect). I wake up and have a few minutes before the kids awaken and I usually post after the kids fall asleep. In the middle of the day it is very sporadic if I post at all. And when I do ... half the time I am doing other stuff and wandering back to glance at what has been posted just BEFORE and AFTER I post. I - like most folks - am having a terrible time reading EVERYTHING. But when I get on initially I click the link to get to my last posting so I can take a look around to see if there is anything posted as a reply to me that I might have missed.

RIght now I was to have taken my girls to breakfast but my spouse got up and deflected that plan... thus leaving me with a little time here. And I just found this posting of yours' which I otherwise would have MISSED.

So... I am usually juggling live hamsters while standing on one foot and cooking dinner ... that's my daily grind as a SAHD who also tries to earn a little change pushing my business along... same one I've been runnin' for 18 years now. ANd NO... business is very soft given I am sacrificing it to be a Dad for the kids. My spouse has a "great job" but cannot take a step back without losing it. We reasoned that my business could take a step back and I could recover... plus I get paid even if I step back as I am a wholesaler... so business continues to pay... it's just that I gradually lose business and my lack of availability (to work/travel/etc.) means I'm not replacing it and maintianing sales volume.

So... it is worth it. We feel the kids are very closely supervised and supported. They can pursue karate, Gymnastics, Soccor and T-ball simultaneously because I am available for that. Plus they have pre-school and K-school. And when they get sick .... I'm there to handle anything. My spouse gets to pursue her career and her shopping escapades without disturbance too!

We've taken a huge income hit (short term) but I hope to regain most of it someday. In the meanwhile some things have obviously been sacrificed. Including some of my attitude. There was a time when I felt myself going through DEPRESSION over the changes. This was mixed with an appreciation for what we were gaining... but at the same time I had a strange mixture of sweet and sour feelings over it all. I am not accustomed to feeling helpless on certain matters.

We have had a full time nanny before - and we tried replacements, various day care alternatives - and so on. But we are VERY PARTICULAR about who we employ with our kids and in our home. IE... many folks who have a nanny say she is the greatest - EXCEPT -- every now and then things DISSAPPEAR. TO my spouse and I this is totally unacceptable. So much is IMPLIED silently by petty thievery.

Aside from that... I think EVERYONE has sacrifices to make if they have kids. Especially young ones. If you run two careers full time - that's great! But the flexability is narrow. I have a flexable business so I was the one to take the reins over the kids - and TRY to maintain what I could in business. And - I have time to post sometimes.

My image trolling is sometimes very fast - and other times I can't find an image at all and generally will not post at all. SO - it's "all or nothing" with me. WHich - BTW - was a nick name some friends used to apply in referring to me sometimes. In the matter of our kids - I am "ALL" the way committed to them... as are all of us here who have kids in tow.

So much for my rambling - sorry for taking up so much acerage - at least I didn't hog up bandwidth with animations to match it!

Your girls are going to have such great memories hanging with you!:goodvibes Not many dads get to spend so much time with their kids. You and they will treasure it forever.:flower3:

Really...

...thanks. I imagine it is great for the kids... but it is really difficlut to let business relationships evaporate over these past 5 years. I simply cannot service the accounts the way I need to (by traveling out in person). And competitors who do show up in person will eventually take the business. So - we made a decision of sorts and - I keep going through this like a recording - so I'll just stop right here.

I figure on exactly what you said - and I will do what I'm doing. Besides, it's easier to lurk, taunt (gently) and poach for the 1000th postings this way.

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Do not...I repeat... DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT TRYING THAT AGAIN! You almost gave me a heart attack just picturing it! TG for Jack!

Cool - a "Great Lakes" song. I love that type of music (although I agree that Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald was seriously overplayed on the radio once-upon-a-time). My favorite singer (who probably no one has ever heard of!) is a folk singer who specialized in the songs of the Great Lakes. His name is Lee Murdock and he must be getting more "popular" since he doesn't actually play much around here anymore and is touring out of the midwest more and more.

I was an avid reader & basically devoured books. I remember getting Little House on the Prarie in kindergarten and the rest of the series soon after. Reading allowed me to escape.

Well, you were advanced - I didn't start Little House until 1st grade!
I actually got in trouble for reading too much during school. After our worksheets, test, whatever was done, we were allowed to read silently. If I was in the middle of a good book, I would rush through the work just to get back to my book. Teacher met with my parents and I wasn't allowed to bring books to school for quite some time. I'm tired, I'm sick of single parenting (DH has been gone since last Mon.), and Celine Dion is wailing on my TV.

I'm going to bed.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/schoolgal/Hi%20Nite%20GoodMorn/gdm.gif

I know how it must/might be... as I had my spouse gone for a few days and the 3 of us were basicy sick... and now on antibiotics.

Have sweet and restful dreams!

I'll start with a question in case everyone might miss it in my long multi-quote post!
Does anyone have any CHEAP ideas for how a small girl could dress up as a "Dr. Seuss character" for 1st grade in school? They do this every year (atleast I've gone thru it a few times because she's the last child) and I never know what to dress them as... short of buying a costume which I'm not going to do. So my kids always do not participate in this. Ofcourse my DIVA youngest daughter wants to dress up as something... but what? Any ideas? I'm at a loss on this one and even doing a google search to try to get ideas has only led me to cat in the hat costumes where a costume would have to be purchased or quite extensive to try to make one. I can't think of what kind of "character" she could be that wouldn't require a bunch of money to be spent! I have to figure out something by next Friday..
Aaarrgh!! STILL no Small or even X-small sizes! I just saw this post around 4:30 today and rushed over to see and NOPE none in my size. Last month at WDW I looked everywhere and they had all the kid sizes and M, L, XL in adult - but NO small or x-small adults. Why, why, why???? You'ld think I'd be fine since I can actually wear either size - I'm right in the middle and the "small" is just a little loose, but perfectly wearable and the "x-small" is a little snug but is fine after I wear them for a few days to stretch them out a bit. With 2 potential sizes you would think I would have twice the selection - but 0 + 0 is still 0

pdarrah (Pamela)
I'm so sorry. When I mentioned it I had just seen the thread and went to order size small and medium in the black/red. So they were there when I posted about it, I guess they went quickly. :(

I just received word a few minutes ago that our DCL CM friend Tanya passed away this afternoon. :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:
Oh that is so sad. :( I'm sure she'll be missed by many!

The govenor of California Named Arnold has my Birth Date. I am not sure if that is good or bad.
Gee BIP make me feel real old!!!!!:sad2: My oldest son was born during the year you were born!!!! I could be your mother!!!!

Whoops, sorry about that!

:grouphug: Maybe they are waiting for the REALLY good deal to put your size up there. :thumbsup2 Thanks BIP for posting this earlier. I managed to order one of the light grey ones with pink straps for me afterall.
Good deal! I'm glad someone was able to grab some before they were all gone again!

Congrats on the pinewood.. can you post some pic of the cars? We never did figure out how to make a car that went fast or straight.. :confused3
my husband swears the best "tricks" to make them go faster is A) putting the wheels on properly so it goes straight and fast and B) the proper placement of the weight up to maximum allowed. I guess he knows what he's talking about because last year Robert's one first place overall, this year he was a bit rushed in getting it done because they told us about the race with such short notice but still he got 3rd place.

Since we are talking pinewood derby, here is a picture of my car from our parent's race last year:

http://www.jrgray.net/linkedimages/monorail.jpg
That is fluffing awesome!!!! I have to show that to DS!

Our stories sound much the same. I can wholeheartly understand that part of you.

Ditto that.

Most thousand posts?? I don't think I'm going to win that one...

I can't wait to hear how your date night went. I am sure everything went well with the kids!:goodvibes

Things went "pretty good". Atleast no one got hurt and no emergencies. A couple of minor things with the little ones especially my son (saw that one coming!) but Ruby was able to manage it. The only thing that REALLY bothers me is that she left the back door unlocked after letting Tramp out to do his business one last time before bedtime. We do have a privacy fence but it's not like my eldest hasn't already jumped over it a few times to retrieve balls that accidentally bounced over off the hoop/backboard- so it's not like someone else couldn't just jump over and come right on in the unlocked backdoor. But other than that- everything went fine with the kids. (well they did "play" with the garage door apparently. That's what they used to get inside- thru the garage SUPPOSEDLY so I could make sure the doors stayed locked and no key was lost- they used the garage door opener.. but from what I hear she was pushing the garage door remote to close it, Robert was pushing the button to close it- so they went back and forth that way until he finally stopped. But someone turned the handle thing that locks the garage- playing around in the garage I guess? Because when we came home and used OUR garage door opener to park my vehicle in there- it made a huge noise and that bar thing is all bent up now. Apparently they hadn't turned it completely, otherwise it wouldn't have opened at all. arrrrgggh kids!)

The show? Well it was alright... remember when I said never disappointed? Well we were kinda disappointed this time so I guess I spoke too soon. Too many things to list out but to put it briefly the show was shorter than usual and some of the "illusion" where you become engrossed in the whole thing was lost because this time they had the audience all the way around a thin stage- so you're watching the show and see people staring back at you in your direction from across the stage. Tapis Rouge was so ridiculous I've put in an email on their contact page (as a member) to find out who to write to about it. Tapis Rouge used to be (as they advertise it) a relaxing entertaining atmosphere with food, drinks (desserts during intermission) and private bathrooms/etc. Well this time it was so packed we were shoulder to shoulder, nowhere NEAR enough places to stand let alone sit, no way to even sample all the food because it was gone so quickly, tons of little kids running around, long lines for our supposed "private" bathrooms, etc. Come to find out I look online for the nights they have left and instead of the normal 2 front sections being available for Tapis Rouge tickets- they now have about 90% of the seating available for it! I'm not kidding, you can look on their website yourself (dallas, thru mid-march). No WONDER it was so packed in there. We'd have been in the minority if we'd saved a lot of money and went with regular seating!

Oh and Jeff's shoulder was hurting him real bad by the middle of the evening. He thinks it has something to do with standing in such crowds trying to "hold" his shoulders in the entire time. It wasn't just crowded in the Tapis Rouge lounge before and during intermission, it was also like a cattle roundup to get in and out of the show tent- obviously because a lot more people were leaving during intermission because the majority of the people were tapis rouge ticket holders! *sigh*

Don't get me wrong, we still enjoyed our evening out alone... but it was nothing like our previous "wow" evenings when we've gone to Cirque Du Soleil and as tapis rouge ticket holders, KWIM? :(

Oh, thank you. Thank you. It really is just an honor to be mentioned in the same post with all of those wonderful other artists. I don't know where to begin.

Thank you to WindermereJudy for starting this thread. To Magiroux and my friends on the 10-day holiday cruise for getting me going posting on the boards. To lbgraves for not banning me for having 13 lines of text in my signature. To BIP for teaching me that it's not about the color of a woman's T-**** but the content of her character. To O'BWV for her cordless blender and the promise of frosty drinks to come. To Captain Crash for visual effects. To Captain Jack for not throwing me off the ship for my lime green background to his wonderful T-**** design. To pyramid2000 for her keeping us informed of what was discussed last week. To Lil'Grumpy for helping me get in touch with my feminine side. To darthrugby for providing us something to talk about to keep out post counts up. Oh, I hear the band playing that music now.... So finally, thank you to Walt Disney for having a dream and to Mickey Mouse for opening his ship and taking my money....
LOL
Too cute!

OMG! Andy this was so beautiful. Yes, I lived, I did almost all of these things. Thanks so much for the memories.

Let me add:

watching The Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights, and Mutal of Omaha's Wild Kingdom
Ditto, lived almost all those things and definitely remember all the nights watching those shows! I miss them!

he,he,...the very day..that lil'stinker got himself "wheeled" out of the
nursey for good....disorderly conduct...& disturbing all the rest of
the babies. [ i was visiting, and i looked @ my wife..do you hear that
awful noise coming from the nursey... , boy! i sure feel sorry for
who ever has that kid! :confused3 , never thinking it could be us, then
hearing the squeaking on those "push bassinets"...NONE OF THIS IS
MADE UP!..EXACTLY WHAT WE WERE SAYING, then the frustrated/
worn out nursey nurse..came popping in...'we can't have him in
there!...he is literally keeping every baby awake!'- well , how you
know its ours??? she left, not looking a bit happy! patrick..had his
head up against the top of the bassinett..still trying to push out!"
after breast feeding, her lunch tray was still there..with rice..he
ate it all!..{ don't be to surprise..remember he was "late". }

I can believe it. My mom swears I was such a pig that I could never get full and on the 3rd day I ROLLED OVER in one of my fits to get more in my tummy- and that is when she relented in giving me solid foods... 3 days old... LOL
(I was a very hugely obese baby though. My mom swears back in those days it was known as a healthy baby if they were fat- and boy was I fat. Atleast until about 5mo or so... I started walking at 6mo and still in the pictures I look kinda chunky but I guess walking took some weight off me. Thanks for making all the fat cells for me to fill up later in life mom!)

Thanks for the laugh today. I really needed that. The kids have been trying my patience terribly. :sad2: DD was taken out of Church by DH after the homily and DS ended up banging his forehead on the pew when we were kneeling after communion. :confused3 He said that he was bored & tired. He has been told that if he can't behave better, he will not be receiving first communion with his class this year.

Oh, to add to it I decided to catch the kids up on their allowance since it has been since September that I have given them any money. Well, I wanted to make sure that they hadn't gotten any of that $17 already so I counted DS's first. He was over by $30. DD was short by $32. :headache: DS will be writing a long sentence about not taking anything that isn't his 30 times before he goes to bed tonight.
LOL!
Sounds so much like my kids.
My youngest (6) can count money and knows it can buy her things but still hasn't truly grasped the concept that it doesn't grow on trees somewhere for us to pick it up. She's said things like you can go to the bank to get more- when I tell her I don't have cash on me for things at places that require cash. She's also been known to "pirate" some money out of other's piggy banks- even when I used to keep them on MY dresser in my bedroom just to avoid this happening! Lil theif...

What's really sad is I could totally see my husband doing this even completely sober. Not a scared bone in his body... I'd be clawing his backside to keep him from doing it though!

1) Whats' fer dinner tonight matey? Well tonight sure wasn't a fancy night- I just put together something fast- salisbury steak with gravy sauce, green beans in cheese sauce, and um...thinly sliced potatoes cooked in the deep fryer. I'm a bad mom tonight. LOL Well, things can't be fancy every night- yanno? Too much going on and not enough time to cook supper...
2) What was the last thing ya bought? diving watch for DH's birthday on March 4th... bought on ebay.
3) What was the last nice thing ya said to anyone? um, that I loved my sister's new vehicle? (I'm not counting the kids because I tell them nice things repeatedly every day and couldn't possibly list the last thing, I don't think)
4) What was the last thing you sent a rebate form in for? some stuff from Radio shack bought at the day after thanksgiving sale
5) Did you get that rebate back yet? NO, and I'm getting PO'd about it... I'll never do rebates with them again! I did staples rebates the same day and rec'd those a long time ago.
6) What is your favorite shore excursion - all time favorite? http://www.chacchobenruins.com/wst_page8.html Mayan Experience in Costa Maya- hands down! (even though I think we melted a bit from the heat/humidy during the ruins tour- that part seriously could have been shorter in my opinion- but the rest of the excursion more than made up for that!
7) And - what is your favorite dessert off the Magic or Wonder? That would really be hard for me to say- honestly I don't remember anything that stood out. It might have been because I FORGOT you could ask for mickey bars for dessert and usually by dessert I was so full I only like nibbled a dessert afterwards. They probably would have tasted better if I wasn't completely stuffed and only taking a token nibble off them every night! Well there WAS some really delicious sampler sizes of cheesecake out in the hallways one night- tasted good but again I was so stuffed I really only took a bite. I didn't try anything on pirates night either because I was so stuffed. Note to self: save room for dessert next time!

I know what you mean, I was hoping to see Garcia back again, I guess his age was against him, but come on. I'm also a Dolphins fan. I almost put a bid in for the Dan Marino signed helmet during our cruise last August, but it was a bit too many $$$$ for me.

Flyers and Sixers this season, please. I wear my Flyers cap at work, and boy do I get razzed about it. Sheeesh!

Morning everyone:surfweb:

Another Monday Morning here. I saw on the news that the NE is getting hit again with snow. Everyone please be careful if you have to go out today.
I live in SE Va and the way the weather goes we could get hit with snow and ice from the west of Richmond and in the summer time if the coast gets hurricane winds we can also get them. The last big ones being Gaston, Isabel and most recently Ernesto(which by the way gave me 3 extra days at WDW this past August/September. Southwest airlines cancelled my flight and I got the extra days at Disney.

MR - you are still a riot! I had a couple of Bailey's smoothies yesterday. They were soooo good!

Andy - stay warm and dry today while out working.

Have a magical day everyone!:grouphug:

And figured I'd ask here because it seems a lot of you cruise not only DCL...
If you had to choose between a 4-5 night inside stateroom on a Carnival cruise or a slightly CHEAPER 7 night cruise with oceanview room on Norwegian Dream- for 2 adults only- which would you choose? Itinerary are similar, although ofcourse extra ports on the 7 night. We're considering this because Dh got a bonus check we weren't expecting and yeah, it could be saved for the "trip of a lifetime" but I think we're okay with everything else we have earmarked to save for that... and we could go next week when the kid are out of school on break and stay at sister's home... the cruise would mostly be relaxation for me, scuba diving at atleast one port for DH. It could be a birthday celebration, DH turns the big 4-0 on March 4th. We're not big drinkers nor are we young enough to go partying into the night either. I didn't think I'd ever consider cruising other than on DCL but this is just much cheaper and we'd never go DCL without the kids anyway..

So which would you choose if you had the choice? (based on what I have told you what we're looking for in a cruise and based on your experience OR things you have heard of either cruiseline.

Hey everyone - I have 2 quick questions for anyone who might know the answer. We are slated to use DCL for our air and opted to arrive a day early for this cruise because of the time change.

One: Since we are opting the overnight stay, the ressie online says hotel MRRT - is this a Marriott? Anyone know which Marriott like where it is?

TWO: Can we opt to arrive 2 or three days earlier if using DCL for air? This would also require a hotel for those nights as well.

DH figures we should check out DL while we are in CA since we are right there. I know I can call DCL to find all this out and I will at some point but I figured I would ask here first.

THANKS a heap everyone - have a great new week!

He was only like 16 when the group was on top of the charts. I've seen him several times on VH1.

That would still put him close to 60 since I'm 54!

Did either of you read Trixie Beldon?

I did . . . and they recently re-released the Trixie series and my middle daughter went through a phase where she read through all they had released so far. A friend of mine is one of the writers for the new Nancy Drew series, but (although I would never tell her this) I always preferred Trixie to Nancy, and even with the new Nancy series my girls have never really gotten into Nancy Drew.

Questions please?

[/COLOR][/b]

My girls have "Thing One" and "Thing Two" shirts that they got at Universal a few years back (solid red shirts with the big "Thing 1" or "Thing 2" in a circle on the front). . . I'd be glad to send you one or both of those if you'd like . . . then you could get some blue spray-on temporary hair color and spray your daughter's hair blue to complete the (quick and easy!) transformation . . .

PM me with your address if you decide you want to use the shirts.

Here's wishing everyone the best start to a new week!!! :goodvibes

So far, looks like school and work are a GO for today, going to check the school website again, just to make sure. Not much sn*w, but it does look slippery outside.

My kids' school is opening 2 hours late today due to weather. I keep hoping the sun will come out to help melt the frozen stuff on the roads.

1. Probably can go as Thing 1 w/ tights and a wig made out of yarn

2. If the NCL is one of the newer ships bulit for freestyle cruising, I would choose that one. I have been on the Star and the Dawn. It is fun to go to all the different restaurants, especially the Mexican on the Dawn:yum! We are actually going to try Costa April 1st as they had kids for taxes/port fees only, so it was only $3000 for the week for 5 people in two obstructed view balcony cabins. And we only booked 10 days ago! Remember, just because it's not Disney, that doesn't mean don't do it. It will be different. But it will be different traveling without the kids, too!

I went on the patches when they first came out. I was fine as long as I didn't do anything that I associated with smoking, having a toddy was one of them. We never smoked in the car, so I used to make Kev take me for rides. I used to sew and crochet alot which meant that I also had a smoke in the ashtray the whole time, so I had to hang up my needle and thread for a while. I think the hardest times were after a meal, talking on the phone and going to the "can". ;)

I wonder if they have a patch for DIS addiction. Maybe one of those paint swatches from Home Depot.

I got tired of hearing gimme gimme and I want from DD mainly all the time. Once DS just said to use the CC. I sat them down & explained how we had to pay that bill and that daddy works very hard to make that money. I also asked them if they wanted that thing right then or to have the money to pay for the cruise...the cruise usually won. ;) They actually have stopped asking for things as often and think about how much things cost before they do buy them. They ask me if the item will go on sale or clearance. :thumbsup2 I am surprised at how much they had in their banks...after I corrected the swiping problem ;). It use to be spent the moment they had enough money. I was going to look into getting them nano shuffles for Christmas but if DS keeps asking for one, I might just offer to have him save up for an Ipod...with us paying half.

I've been impressed with my oldest's ability to save. He earned a lot of money cutting lawns last summer and saved it all for the cruise. Then we got to the cruise and he spent $10 on an arcade card and bought one T-shirt. He said he didn't see anything else that was worth it. He has my sense of cheapness.

Ain't it the truth, Lisa....

My Stepfather gave me a black eye once and I was the one they made go to counseling. To this very day my mother denies that he is an alcoholic too....

She ignores most of what happened during our childhood and i'm the black sheep for accusing them of what they did to my sister and me...

Now that I could handle. When I talked to friend in the business about it she told me the policy was a lot higher than what you pay. Maybe I will look into it again.:thumbsup2

Can you imagine?!

I'm always reading 2-3 books at a time.

I went through this with my oldest DD. I had to talk to her teacher about letting her read after a test, etc because she would make silly mistakes because she just wanted to read. I also had to ban her from reading during lunch or recess so she would talk to her friends instead.

(02-25) 20:10 PST Los Angeles (AP) --

Is Jack Nicholson playing Lex Luthor in the next "Superman" movie? Maybe he'll be Daddy Warbucks in a remake of "Annie." Or perhaps he's going to the same hairstylist as Britney Spears.

As host Ellen DeGeneres walked onto the stage at the beginning of Sunday's Oscars, the camera found its way to an applauding Nicholson, who appeared wearing his signature sunglasses and sporting a very non-signature shaved head.

Turns out the extreme haircut was just devotion to craft.

Nicholson and co-star Morgan Freeman are filming director Rob Reiner's film "The Bucket List," a buddy comedy/drama about two terminally ill men who flee a cancer ward to complete a list of things they want to do before they die. It is scheduled for release in November.

Well, thank goodness he wasn't doing it to look good -- here is the answer:

I figured it was for a role....

As for Brittney's new look....I don't know if this is true or not, but dh said he heard on a radio talk show that she shaved it because her hubby, in an effort to prove she's an unfit parent because she was doing drugs while they were married, was going to have drug testing done, and it can show up in your hair. :confused3

Pete....where is the picture you promised?

We're in the process of cleaning out the attic this week. If I find it I'll get it onto the thread. If not I'll call my friends in Vienna to see if they have a copy.

:surfweb: Good morning!
Hope everyone is safe and warm. We got about 5" and DDs school is closed. I've already read back pages...so helpful knowing how to multi-quote! ;)

Ooooh...Disney pins. Yep, got me into a wee bit of trouble on e bay too! DB is a CM so I think I like his discount on sale pins a bit better. If DDs like a particular character/type, let me know. I might have some extras to trade, including the lanyard (now known as Hidden Mickey.)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! GS Cookies! We just finished selling ours up here. Our troop of 2nd grade brownies is 19 strong and our cookie mom was out with a bad back. Being an assistant leader with a mini-van, guess who got the chore...:confused3 I was close to tears when I could finally put groceries in the back again!:rotfl2: Awesome job on the booth sales. Where did you set up at?

Time to get back to my :laundy:

The girls do have their favorite characters, but they just love to trade! They were really bummed in Dec. when there was no trading allowed with the CMs for the first 3 or 4 days. It is a hoot to see what DD4 picks to trade.:rotfl:

We set our booth up at the local Acme. It is the only one that has a heater vestibule (sp?). We do much better at K-mart, but it has been too cold since the first weekend, even when they let us in the vestibule.

Yes, drug testing the hair is a much better way to do it as it stays there much longer. So this could very well be true.

Talking about :laundy: , I am surprised the girls were able to find something to wear this morning.:rolleyes1 I guess I should get started on something. At least the dishwasher is running...

I hear you with how DDs can trade! :rotfl2: My DD has a good eye for the HM pins, lets the CM know that she sees it, and then trades for something else. If she doesn't like the pin, she won't trade!

I hear you about too cold for sales. Our K-Mart lets us in the vestibule, but everywhere else, banks, post offices and Wally World, for the girls outside. There was NO WAY that we we going to be freezing our butts off just for that!

Questions please?

I think you could MAKE these things prety easily enough... 1st choice of materials might be red and white felt from a fabric store... with a construction paper stiffener inside a hat - or just use good construction paper taping it from the inside for a cat in the hat hat. Using paper to fabricate the hat might be OK if you achieved the right "look"... and it will depend on the finish standards your little Diva demands.

It seems to me your key ingredients for the definitive "must have" costume components are (by priority)

1) the cat in the hat HAT (usable alone if need be)
2) black leotard (seems like standard wardrobe or inexpensive to substitute with anything black) adding a cut piece of white felt.
3) Huge red bow tie - seems OK to sub a large flocked red Christmas Bow.
4) Red and white long socks?

I would consider calling a couple of thrift shops to ask if they had anything along these lines - maybe they'd know of the hat at least being on hand. Might save a drive.

Otherwise you might look to ebay. My Google search turned up results where they had no inventory. Seems to me you could ferret out a clearance on these sort of things somewhere... but that would involve buying it. And for a one time use thing I would agree... best to achieve the effect at the lowest or zero cost if possible.

Now as to 5 nites on carnival versus 7 on NCL Dreams. I've sailed both lines and like each but for different reasons. I might ask... could you not squeeze in a 4 niter on DCL instead?

We sailed a Carnival 8 niter last Valentines week and it was sort of a soft let down compared to DCL. Yeah it was cheaper for 8 nites in a veranda versus 7 on DCL in a window cabin... and there was a lot in common between between the two... but it was the differences that matterred most to us. We are spoiled with the expectations we get from DCL.

And if I had to narrow my remarks otherwise to either or for CCL or NCL... I would put it this way...

Which ship is newer... that makes a difference to us. 2nd... what is the port line up and you intensity of interest for the ports? Seeing as this is less of a ship is the destination/ship intensive trip and more of a port intensive voyage... the ports should matter more. Unless the ships - or one of the ships is much newer. These considerations would influence my choice of trip rather then BRAND of cruise lines.

BELOW is a photo link to 200 images in a slide show from our Carnival Spirit voyage:

HOWEVER... if I were to assume the ships and ports were effectively identical... then I would choose NCL over CCL any day. We sailed NCL once and we had a decent time of it. SOme aspects of Carnival we simply dislike. And with NCL we actually enjoy the Freestyle basis of dining. We would probably invite an opportunity to share a table with folks at RANDOM... initially, as we would volunteer our interest in sharing a table to the head dining room manager as we checked in for seating. Maybe later in the cruise we might opt for private dining.

In addition, I would recommend you try some of the pay for dining alternatives the NCL ship is sure to offer. Just be sure the main dining options have little of interest to you on their menus.

I don't know how helpful any of this has been... but I tried.

Cheers, from

Tom

The only thing I have ever bought on e-bay were Disney pins. Took over my life for about a month, but DDs have plenty of pins to trade.:thumbsup2 Now DH is another story... :rolleyes1

I've bought and sold on Ebay. Got a really nice leather Mickey Mouse jacket for $50.00 just before Xmas. We had paid over $200 for Kev's at Belz Mall in Sept. Bought several pins,Kev gets alot of his train stuff there.

My kids' school is opening 2 hours late today due to weather. I keep hoping the sun will come out to help melt the frozen stuff on the roads.

Just got in for lunch, spent the last 2.5 hours walking around in this sloppy mess, I'm pooped, and I'm not talking bricks here people..........:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

The meters I'm reading today are all outside on the side of the residents homes. With all the sn*w on the ground, it makes it difficult to get to some of the meters, especially if there are little mounds to try and walk up, just think, slip, slide and away, that would be me..........:lmao:

I go, after work tomorrow, to get a series of x-rays on both of my knees. I know one thing, my knees are quite stiff and sore today.
