:offtopic: :offtopic: Another wild and crazy Friday night out! :goodvibes Thursday after work I tried a new Mexican restaurant in town with a co-worker. It's called Mango's Mexican Grill. We sat at the bar and I loved how authentic it is (including the guys who work there). So I asked my fellow cruiser Cindy to join me there again last night because I was sure she'd love the "scenery" too! :rolleyes1 I got along really well with one waiter (Alejandro) and after Cindy left, he and I went out for a fun evening of playing pool. :thumbsup2 Major language barrier (because he moved here from Mexico a few months ago to work in his cousin's restaurant), but it was fun trying to remember all the years of Spanish I took in school. Alejandro and I are going out next weekend and he says if I teach him more English, he'll help me re-learn Spanish.

I just love meeting new people from all over! :)

I love the name Alejandro just conjures for me an image of an Antonio Banderas type male!!!

Good point.. About updating the list.

I had a dental work done on Monday and now I think I may have to have a root canal. Thank goodness our dentist does sedation dentistry.

Oh I so wish my dentist did sedation!! None of the ones I have had have offered this.:confused3 I am such a coward. Mind you I have had 3 0r 4 root canal sessions and I have to say they were less trouble than ordinary deep fillings as I think the dentist did a better numbing job!!! I lie there with wet palms a complete nervous wreck!!!

I am sure everything will go ok.

Just wanted to stop in and say hello....I faithfully read these threads, and am so excited about meeting everyone and being included with everything...:woohoo:

More exciting - my husband Bob and I are meeting up with someone from this thread next Saturday night....EllaEnchanted....this is so cool meeting people before the cruise. I only know LiserAnn from California (who I adore, and her family....met up 2 years ago on the Mexico cruise and hope to share a dining room table with????????Lisa????????)....:confused3

I truly LOVE reading every thread...when I don't get time, my husband tells me what is going on - oh, when you get to know me, you'll understand, I'm the 'talker' - he is quiet but a super nice guy who LOVES Disboards (well, maybe he is quiet because he can't get a word in EVER, yep, I'm the chatter, right Lisa?:rotfl: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: )...

Bob and Lucy

Sounds like fun. I pass info from the Disboards to DH as well.

Most of my problems with the dentist stem from my sulfite allergy. I developed the allergy 6 years ago. Sulfites are also used as a preservative in some injectible and Iv medications. I told my last dentist and he assured me that the sulfite amount was to small to be a problem. Well, I had increasing more severe reactions anytime I had dental work, that he past off as anxiety related.

I've had dental work for many years and as a child went to a dentist that didn't use novacaine. So why the anxiety problems now?

I went to this new dentist for a root canal and the sedation dentistry at the urging of my dentist. The new guy heard about my allergy and tried an anesthetic that doesn't contain sulfites. Surprise no reactions. It was like night and day. However having had the sedation, I've been spoiled. :)

Yorkshire born and bred. Lived in Hebden Bridge till I was 18, then trained in Leeds for 3 years before getting married and moving down to Basingstoke for a few years. After a couple of years in Newbury we moved back to Keighley, then to the Bingley area(3 area moves) where we stayed for the 25+ years.

John is a southerner, but an honorary Yorkshireman now after being up here for 33 years!! He still says barth instead of bath though, and other similar pronunciations!!!:rotfl:

Where are you from?

Oh, and it hasn't been sunny!!! It was meant to be, that is why we set off, but everywhere over Hebden Bridge area looked dull and dreary!

I am sure this is pretty far away, but when I was a sophomore in HS I was an exchange student in Somerset county, a small town called Hardington Mandeville, which I believe was a subset of Yeovil. It was a great experience...I was actually in London for Fergie's wedding. Didn't get to see much of it. Actually, it was 2 years later when I was in Portugal (another schoolt trip) that I got to see Princess Di and Charles as they were out for a carriage ride:banana:

Great Guidelines! Should we post these on the page 1 here or PJ's site so they don't get "lost" in the sea of posts?
When our team was talking, we were figuring about 100 gifts, does that sound like a reasonable amount to people, too high/too low? I know it is hard to guess now because some people actually haven't gotten started Dis'ing for this cruise yet. They might think it is so far away:scared: What a silly thought, never too early, right:lmao:

I grew up going to a British school in Brazil, and in 1977 (or 1978) Prince Charles landed in a helicopter on our field and came to see us all. He stopped every once in a while to talk to a student, and he even stopped and talked to ME!! I even have a picture of it! I know it was nothing to him, but I still think it's cool.

Having some people over for scrapbooking in a little while - did my version of cleaning earlier, but good enough to allow people in the house.

When we cruised in 05, we just used our birth certificates/Drivers licenses. We just ordered passports for the family in December and got them within 3 weeks...really quick service. If you haven't ordered yours yet.....you can smile when they take your picture. They told us you couldn't smile, but I have heard that that is not true.

We had our pictures taken at the post office. He let us see them and if we didn't like them he would have retaken them .

When DH was in the Marines, I had to have an ID. If you smiled they would admonish you with "this isn't a tupperware party, don't smile"

They also called us dependents, which made me both mad and laugh. I made more money than DH and technically he was dependening on me as I put him through his last year of college.

Now we are "family members"

Goodness, is that STILL going on? :rotfl: Do we yanks still have hundreds of years worth of "North/South, the war isn't really over" to look forward to?

The history books say the War of the Roses ended in 1485.
But I suspect the writers were not from either Yorkshire or Lancashire! :lmao:

My husband would never dare buy me red roses, whatever the occasion. Although I have to confess that we once had a narrowboat called Lancaster - but it was named after the aircraft and most definitely not the county.

On the royalty note....

I met him at work in 2005, just about a week before he and Camilla announced their engagement. They both came back last year but I only saw them in passing, we didn't do a formal introduction line-up that time.

Also at some post offices you have to make an appointment. Someone posted they had a 7 week wait for a Saturday appointment add that to the 10 week processing time and WOW.

EB has no choice about passports, with their stop in Cartegena, they'll all have to have them.

We were approched with doing this with our DD in first grade as well. Very glad we didn't do it as she struggled later with her 4th grade math, mostly because she is TOO social!!!

Go with your gut, it usually works out for the best!!

Karen

Our oldest DD was in combined grade classes and did first, second and third in one year thus graduating a year early. She is 39 and I don't think she or we every regretted skipping the grade. She always (from 2yo) was more comfortable with kids a year or 2 older.

What I regret most was not being allowed to go to Kindergarten. My GF being British taught me as his parents had taught him, to read, write and add/subtract by the time I was 4 When the school found out I could do these things, I was immediately at age 4.9 sent to 1st grade.

Crazy isn't it, we will have to meet in one of the other rooms as our cruise get closer.

Yeah, I really think the chat room is not big enough for both repos . . . it was nice chatting with the other side last night too. It was the MOST people I have seen in that chat room EVER though.

My son also graduated early from hs and college. He was much more mature than our youngest DD. I agree it depends on the level of maturity of the child, not necessarily the academic ability.

Sounds like your son has both the emotional maturity and the academic excellence. I am sure you are very proud of his achievements.

:thumbsup2 Yes, we are quite proud, but he is still a kid. He wants to go to Europe this summer with his friend from High school. They want to do 3-4 weeks, buy a rail pass, and try to see as much as they can see before he has to hammer the books again in the fall in Med school.

You know, I want to order ours, and have it done, but I don't know the quantity. I definitely think we should come up with a "sign up" maybe on the website - and have a cutoff date to join.

I do see everyone's point about needing the fish extenders or something like it. On the last cruise, a whole bunch of us got switched staterooms and it was a pain. Since we had no reliable listing, I just walked the entire ship one night at about 1:00 am, and distributed our family's gift. I looked for the stockings, since we sailed around the holidays. I saw parts of the ship I had never seen in six trips!

Of course, with a team, we could actually each take a deck, and it will make things MUCH easier!

42 here and that's as high as it's supposed to get. I think it's our first day above freezing! The snow is almost all gone.

Snow gone here, and 50+ degrees. I spent 45 minutes after work yesterday cleaning up a whole winter worth of dog poop in the yard!

Speaking of fairies, has any one noticed that a certain fairy hasn't dusted any one in our thread. The EB people have pixiedust: frequently.

80 degrees and sunny here today! (why did we skip the 70's??)

Just had lunch and a movie with TiggersPal (saw Wild Hogs....funny, but I'd watch William H. Macey and John Travolta in anything...love them both).

Got my passport last Fall, wanted to beat the rush. PLUS, I'm now ready to hit the road the moment I hit the lottery! :lmao: (Oh, note to self, pick up ticket later this afternoon....up to 142 million).

I'm also spending a lot of energy avoiding housework (AGAIN) this weekend. Played for a while on www.youtube.com (http://www.youtube.com) watching people's Disney related videos. There's one of the new cast of Twice Charmed and the girl playing Cinderelly is FABULOUS!!! Now I think I'll check out a trip report or two.

Adult and Kids- for kids too young do it by themselves.

Any ideas on a day we want to do this. I will have to look at what days we are doing what already but obvioulsy a Sea day.

I think there was someone else that watches House? Did you see this week's? I keep thinking about it - it just cracked me up what he did about faking being sick.

I'm finally getting around to writing thank you letters - I just am terrible at them. I still have them to do for my 1 year's old birthday party last Nov! I decided I'm doing them all in one sitting. Got photos done today of my little one to put in the cards. It was crazy at the mall - my three older boys (4, 6, and 9) starting wrestling in the store. I felt like the mother in Malcom in the Middle. And I looked over at this mother who was telling another mother - "see, that is what would happen if I were to get pregnant again" and the other one said "bite your tongue." :lmao: I know, someday I will look back on these days and miss it all...but did my 4 year old really have to put gum on the seat belt? And I looked over at this mother who was telling another mother - "see, that is what would happen if I were to get pregnant again" and the other one said "bite your tongue." :lmao: I know, someday I will look back on these days and miss it all...but did my 4 year old really have to put gum on the seat belt? And what is up with the bowl of bugs I found in their bathroom? Argg...where is my DOD?!?!?!

I would love to do a Castaway Cay one. If you have inspiration, maybe we can get a Family and Adult hunts to post on the website, for people to do outside of the organized event. Perhaps photos hunts. :surfweb: (where is the begging smilie?)

This is fine with me! In fact, if people would rather do it on their own instead of an organized event that is fine with me too. Let me know what the majority wants and thats what we will do! :goodvibes

Hi all,

I haven't been able to post since Mom has been in the hospital for the past two weeks, but she got out last night and she's doing better. Yeah! Thanks for all you warm wishes...

News: lwilliam - Lucy and Bob - and me and John are doing our first miniDISmeet. We're going to Friday's on Saturday (Lucy said it took her a long time to figure that one out :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: ) and it's St. Pat's day. We're doing drinks and dinner, alas, no DOD's ... we'll have to settle for the usual stuff.

We each described ourselves and we ironically have the exact same descriptions....husbands are both 6'2", girls are both 5'1" and we all wear DISNEY clothes. We'll have a great time and report back to you all.

MORE News: John and I are now the proud parents of a little 7 week old girl named Angel. She's a long haired german shepherd with sable coloring. I'm going to attempt to put her picture up here soon. She's a little fuzzball and she's cute....wait till you see!

Thanks so much to Carol and Doug....we got our fish extenders and we're thrilled with the way they came out.

John and I want to do the gifting to others and we've got some great ideas rolling around, but I'm not sure which is the best way to go about handing them all out. We'll have to decide as we get closer to the trip and see how many people and how it'll be best to get it done.

I read that Captain Spanx walked the decks and saw parts of the ship he had never seen before at 1AM...how long did it take, John?

Life moves on and it only gets better coz everyday we get closer to Paradise...

Happy Sunday everyone:)

:stir: How many of us have passports or will be getting them by cruise time?

We have ours. We used them for our cruise last Feb.

I wish the US would require them for all travel out of the US. People here do not like change and are balking at getting them. With all of the proposed exceptions it is getting silly.

It seems really strange to us in the UK NOT to have passports seeing as we need them to go anywhere much!;)

:thumbsup2 Yes, we are quite proud, but he is still a kid. He wants to go to Europe this summer with his friend from High school. They want to do 3-4 weeks, buy a rail pass, and try to see as much as they can see before he has to hammer the books again in the fall in Med school.

this is what my daughter and her Bf are talking about doing this summer too, but it seems to be working our really expensive for them.:confused3

Funny AG story. Molly got the Paris outfit for her doll as a gift, it comes with a passport(doll sized)...we filled it out and got it stamped in UK last summer. Tried a few more places, (france/us) no way we can't do that !!! that's okay we are happy to have the UK stamp for her on her mini little passport. The simple thing that make the life a child (& her mom) we talked about how great it was the rest of the trip!

how cool for her to have her doll's passport stamped!:)

Just have to tell a short story from yesterday.

We went to the Mall of America and as we went past Abercrombie & Fitch, we noticed they had a live (shirtless) male model greeting customers. He looked exactly like one of the models they use in their ads. Wow! My DH joked "do you think he works out?". I was literally speechless. All I could think was "if I was 25 years younger".

P.S. You'll never guess what I bought at the mall. That's right.... shoes!

We loved the Chankanaab (sp?) park in Cozumel last September! Loved watching the sea lion show. But I understand it was destroyed by a hurricane a week or so after we went. I've heard it re-opened, but am not sure how different it is now.

In Grand Cayman we loved the Sea Turtle Farm! Didn't care much for the rest of the tour, but the sea turtles were a big hit with us.

Great birthday pics LiserAnn! Your boys are so cute! I'm still trying to figure out what to do for Tyler's 5th birthday party in May. He's insisted on a camoflage theme and wants to have it at a park we go to often. It has a great playground, nice bathroom building, covered areas with picnic tables underneath, and a splash zone type water feature so kids can play in the water. I'm hoping I can get a family member to come to town early to help me transport everything there, set up, and decorate. So hard to do all this stuff by myself, but I manage! :thumbsup2 The things we do for our kids!

Have a great Sunday.

I stayed up until 2:00 (3:00  ) to catch up on my DVR episodes of Heroes while everyone else was in bed . . . Now I have no more Heroes to catch up on until April 23!

Hi all,

I read that Captain Spanx walked the decks and saw parts of the ship he had never seen before at 1AM...how long did it take, John?

Life moves on and it only gets better coz everyday we get closer to Paradise...

If I recall correctly, it took me about an hour and a half. I kept thinking someone was sure to stop me . . . . I was carrying a big huge box, filled with imprinted foam bananas . . . I would "hide" it in an alcove somewhere on each deck, and fill up a couple of bags with my bananas, and then walk all the hallways looking for the cabins of our friends. I am not a small guy, but I move fast :cool1:

I kept humming Christmas carols to myself as I ran around the ship!:santa: This was on our December 9th cruise.

Can someone explain to me how I post a picture on here??? PC not MAC.

Thanks.

PC or Mac does not matter for this.

First you have to find a photo hosting site. The DIS has one here,

http://www.wdwinfo.com/photopost/index.php

You use your same user name and password, and photos must be sized to a certain size before posting (uploading).

Many people here also use photobucket :

www.photobucket.com

Once you have your photo(s) uploaded, it is fairly simple. Right click on the photo wherever it is hosted, and select "copy image address". Then when you are posting here, and are ready to insert your photo, bracket it (put it in between) these two commands . . . and and paste the link you copied when you right clicked where you see the "and" here.

That should do it for you!

I have a passport however I got married last June so have to get a new one, thanks for reminding me.

Wow everyone's kids sound so smart. I am only 22 and don't have kids nor did I excel in school. I am still in college and have 3 or 4 years (I am part time) left. I took a few semesters off for the Disney College Program and to get married/honeymoon. I work too.

Update on the Scavanger hunt:
It looks like we should have a few groups
Adult
Teen
Kids
Adult and Kids- for kids too young do it by themselves.

Any ideas on a day we want to do this. I will have to look at what days we are doing what already but obvioulsy a Sea day.

I am also making a Castaway Cay one for myself and will make extra copies for those who want one. However, I have heard disney has one too.

where'd you work on your CP? and did you get stuck in vista or chatam?? I did the spring 04, worked at Splash Mtn gift shop and had a lovely:rolleyes: apartment in Vista.....Absolutely loved it!

That's great news about your mom! Thanks for the update! Can't wait to see the puppy pictures! I use photobucket for loading pictures. It's great since you pick what size picture to upload (msg board, avatar, signature) and then it gives you the complete addresses you need to post - I use the one that starts with [img] and then you just copy complete address and paste. Nothing else needed.

I have a very important topic to research today online....my excuse for being on here ;) .........I need to find out more about Cozumel and Grand Cayman so we can decide where to visit on our May cruise :):cool1:

In Cozumle we have gone to Xcaret Eco Archaeological Park and Tulum Ruins with DCL and loved both. Both are on the mainland - Tulum is farther away.

Xcaret has a little of everything - underground river for floating down, ruins, wildlife, and I think snorkeling - we didn't have time. Lunch was included in the excursion and was good - you order what you want at a restaurant.

Tulum was beautiful. the ruins were much more impressive than we expected. And there was a beautiful beach - no changing facilities so wear your suit under your clothes if you plan on swimming. Lunch was Subway - prepackaged, we were told it would be served on the way back but we actually got ours on the way there.

And what is up with the bowl of bugs I found in their bathroom? Argg...where is my DOD?!?!?!
Lisa

How about the gum in the hair?! My DD (4 at the time) decided she wanted her gum in her hair, it was hot and sticky in the car and I didn't notice she had done it until we got out. By that time it was everywhere:scared: I imagined having to shave her hair off. Luckily after a quick frantic search on line, I found out that lemon juice works great. Let me tell you, it has saved us many times since then! As for the bugs....thankfully as a mom to 2 DD's I don't come across them much, thankfully, as I am a chicken!

We did this with our brownie troop when they were in 1st grade from their hard earned cookie money. THEY LOVED IT. The girls loved building the bears, but since we all agreed that the girls had enough animals we guided them towards agreeing to donate them to a childrens shelter. That I have to say was a very proud moment when 10 little 6 year olds handed their bears over to the shelter manager to give to kids that needed them more than they did. The other best part was at BAB the kids got to cover me with stickers (it was a game) okay taking them off was terrible, but while they put them on me I never heard those girls giggle so loud.

btw, we are engrossed in a marathon today....

LiserAnn....loved the birthday pics!:) Would you recommend build-a-bear for a kid's party? We've never done it, but I can guarantee that DD would love it. Just wondering how many kids would be a good number for that?

Carolyn

I finally got the pictures uploaded from Drew's 5th birthday party, which we had on friday at Build A Bear Workshop. The kids were so cute and it was a fun time. It was really neat to see them pick out the animal they wanted to take home...then they "stuff" it and "wash" it.
]

Great pictures Lisa...thanks for sharing. I love BAB, it is such a great place. DD's latest animal is named Tinkerbell Love Heart and of course is dressed in the tinkerbell outfit.
So, does anyone else stress over the birthday parties?! What to do? Where to go? How many kids? DD (5) had hers at Libby Lu in December and that was great, made it all very easy. Now, I have to figure out a party for a 9 year old girl....what to do? Any great party ideas that were easy, stress free and a success?:lmao:

I see 13 months on my ticket counter!!!! No longer 14....it won't be long until it is 12 and then we can REALLY start to make plans! All those people who think we are crazy will finally take our reservations (hotel, car, airline, etc)!! :cool1:

Woo hoo:cool1: I can't wait to make all those reservations. Then, I will only have 7 months before I will tell DD's and then it will really feel real! We are telling them for their Christmas present. Hard to keep it a secret, but I am working on it.

Molly's best at home so far was AG spa slumber party. I set up the backyard like a spa; facial and relaxation lounge, hair style station, manicure, pedicure. I staffed the stations with her aunt, another troop leader, our old nanny and hired a friend who does hair to give them a "libby lu" do. Each station had a doll spot too. When they arrived (in their robes per the invitation instructions) we greated them at the door with a little purse and Molly Money (had another friend make money with her face on it, the best was the 8 dollar bill) they made spa slippers and then each got a schedule took 20 minutes at each spot to enjoy and relax....way over board, but beautiful. Best part I found the matching color accoutraments from Target on the clearance section (towels, shower curtains that hung from the overhang to create rooms...) pictures (of the day before set up stage).....

What a great idea. I think I am done with home parties now. Both my girls have summer birthdays and we always do the pool thing. It turns out to be so much work for me. I will do this one next though if we do it at home.:goodvibes You really did a great job on this!

Me and DH would love to do an adult hunt on the boat...sounds like it could be a LOT of FUN!

EllaEnchanted (Deb): thanks for telling everyone how 'blond' I am with the Saturday at Fridays....joking!:lmao: :lmao:

Lucy, Way too funny....had to share!

John, I can't even tell you the image that DH and I are conjuring up in our heads as we read this together....it's priceless....I could make a movie....:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: : :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Thanks for clearing up the timeframe for us, for me, it would probably take 3 hrs at least, coz DH and I would HAVE to stop and have DOD's along the way....;) ;)

NO WONDER it wasn't working when I tried copy/paste...didn't know about that hosted DL. Thanks a million! Gonna go get DH to do it now.....he's my IT guy!

I see 13 months on my ticket counter!!!! No longer 14....it won't be long until it is 12 and then we can REALLY start to make plans! All those people who think we are crazy will finally take our reservations (hotel, car, airline, etc)!! :cool1:

I am SO with you on this! I'm currently planning a Halloween DCL and this one and I want everything finished yesterday! Why is that so much to ask???

That's great news about your mom! Thanks for the update! Can't wait to see the puppy pictures! I use photobucket for loading pictures. It's great since you pick what size picture to upload (msg board, avatar, signature) and then it gives you the complete addresses you need to post - I use the one that starts with [img] and then you just copy complete address and paste. Nothing else needed.

Lisa, Thanks for your concern and warm thoughts about my mom. We hope the worst is over and now we can get back to reality and DIS.

I can't wait to show off my Angel baby....DH will be busy this afternoon!

I'm so glad that you and John cleared this up for me. Thanks for the much needed help you guys...:flower3:

Tulum was beautiful. the ruins were much more impressive than we expected. And there was a beautiful beach - no changing facilities so wear your suit under your clothes if you plan on swimming. Lunch was Subway - prepackaged, we were told it would be served on the way back but we actually got ours on the way there.

Tulum was my favorite beach that I have ever experienced...the sand was like baby powder, the water comfortably warm, and the coastline was magnificent. Just had to watch out for those Iguana's hiding in the rocks and popping out when you least expect them and some are VERY BIG!

I bet the people on the Wonder were hating life this morning having to get off the ship an hour early.:scared1:

OH MY GOSH...I would be so incredibly angry, I would complain about it the entire cruise....one whole less hour on Mickey's ship...No Way I would be happy about that....Oh Yes hating life this morning....

Glad to hear she is doing better:cool1:

Thank you sooooo much! It's sweet of you to care!

In Mexico last month, we lucked into a Sea Turtle Release. It was amazing...there were about 80 baby sea turtles that the foundation had been raising. At dusk, everyone got to take one and put it on the sand and watch these little guys make their way to the water. It was so great.

Ok, now I have to do a Mexico cruise in February....I have to do this in my life...I'm SUCH a turtle lover....Let's see, can I fit it inbetween Halloween 07 and May 08, hummmmm:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

Can you tell that I've really missed chatting with all of you...it's great to be back....:grouphug:

Glad to hear you mom is home and doing well. :thumbsup2

Have an Irish Coffee for me, wouldn't that be the official DOD?

Puppies are so fun and goofy. Watch out for those baby teeth. When they start falling out, they can be pretty painful if you step on one. OUCH.

If you are handing out your own gifts, I say however you want to do it is fine by me.   I'll even visit you with the fish wxtender in hand. :rotfl:

Just have to tell a short story from yesterday.

We went to the Mall of America and as we went past Abercrombie & Fitch, we noticed they had a live (shirtless) male model greeting customers. He looked exactly like one of the models they use in their ads. Wow! My DH joked "do you think he works out?". I was literally speechless. All I could think was "if I was 25 years younger".

P.S. You'll never guess what I bought at the mall. That's right.... shoes!

I confess, I'll cross the aisle at the mall just to catch a glimpse of the ad inside.

If it had been a live model, I would have figured out how to use my camera phone real quick!!!

You don't have to be 25 years younger, I think of all the things I could teach him, now that I'm wiser. :rolleyes1 What did Noel say about the meat? I would repeat it but Capt Spanx would have an ugly Hooters flashback.

I would recommend it. We had 13 kids (mostly boys) and it was a tad chaotic, but still a lot of fun. The "Build A Bear" at the Promenade Mall is also attached to "Friends 2 B Made" which is more geared towards girls and they can make dolls which are very cute. I would suggest it and it was a HUGE hit will all the kids....they loved it and loved taking their stuffed animal home. All the mom's really liked it because instead of getting a goody bag filled with junk they got a bear! You can't have a birthday cake though (because they don't have a permit to serve food), so I made bownies and cut them out in a bear face and decorated them. I gave those out in cut "Cars" themed baggie. I would recommend it.....

uh-oh, what was 'up' with hubby's hand? carpel tunnel? (I've got it too, in fact, I've got EVERYTHING since I turned that magic number of 50!)

No, not carpel tunnel...about a week before thanksgiving all four of us were in a serious auto accident. We were tboned by a uninsured driver (on a suspended license). She turned left on a green light, erroneously thinking she had a green arrow (we were heading straight) and slammed right into us without even braking. The windows and doors were crashed in and her pickup came to a stop literally inches from Ryan and Mark's heads/faces (Mark was driving and Ryan was the left passenger). Anyway, amongst all our injuries, Mark's was the most involved...he broke his wrist on the steering wheel and he required surgery to put a screw in to attach the two broken bones. It's been a huge ordeal. That's his third cast and it's removable. The first two were not. Hopefully at the end of the month he'll have it off completely. He had his surgery on Jan 5th, so it's been a long, long nightmare. Of course, she went to jail and basically since she has zero money, she's off the hook in terms of her responsibility to us. Garnishing her wages costs a ton of money, not really worth it. It's behind us now, I can't waste my energy on becoming bitter about the situation when I have a wonderful cruise to dream about....:cloud9:

We did this with our brownie troop when they were in 1st grade from their hard earned cookie money. THEY LOVED IT. The girls loved building the bears, but since we all agreed that the girls had enough animals we guided them towards agreeing to donate them to a childrens shelter. That I have to say was a very proud moment when 10 little 6 year olds handed their bears over to the shelter manager to give to kids that needed them more than they did. The other best part was at BAB the kids got to cover me with stickers (it was a game) okay taking them off was terrible, but while they put them on me I never heard those girls giggle so loud.

How fun...my "gang" would have loved to do the sticker thing to me!!!!

Woo hoo:cool1: I can't wait to make all those reservations. Then, I will only have 7 months before I will tell DD's and then it will really feel real!

Thank you!! And yes, I do love parties that don't involve the mess at home. With an almost 9 year old and 5 year old, I've been having home parties forever and I'm just done with it. The kids want to have more "adventurous" parties than the at-home thing, which is fine with me!

Thanks for all the info :)

The other best part was at BAB the kids got to cover me with stickers (it was a game) okay taking them off was terrible, but while they put them on me I never heard those girls giggle so loud.

what a lovely idea to donate them to less fortunate children! well done to those 6 year olds!:)

In Mexico last month, we lucked into a Sea Turtle Release. It was amazing...there were about 80 baby sea turtles that the foundation had been raising. At dusk, everyone got to take one and put it on the sand and watch these little guys make their way to the water. It was so great.

wow that sounds like a wonderful experience!:)

Wow Lisa, glad to hear you were all OK. Hope Mark's wrist will be cast free soon. Car accidents are so scary.

We were very fortunate....after seeng the totalled car, the fact we weren't taken away in ambulances, was a true miracle. Our injuries are subsiding and it will be in the past (of course, Mark will have the screw with him forever, but that's OK). It was very scarey!

I'm a certified Birthday Party freak!

Best part I found the matching color accoutraments from Target on the clearance section (towels, shower curtains that hung from the overhang to create rooms...) pictures (of the day before set up stage).....

what a fantastic idea for a party!!! my dd would have loved that when she was little! :cutie: btw, your dd reminds me of my Becky at a younger age, with her red hair and freckles :)

Liserann, that sounds very traumatic! I had a bad accident last summer when a car following me failed to stop when I braked, crashed into me and shunted me into another car. The driver got out and ran away and ahs never been traced  My car was written off and I've suffered with a trapped nerve in my arm and wrist ever since. It was horrible and I'm still so angry with the guy who did it...and the police for not tracing him too!

Sending your dh good wishes, hope his hand is better soon.:grouphug:

I confess, I'll cross the aisle at the mall just to catch a glimpse of the ad inside.

If it had been a live model, I would have figured out how to use my camera phone real quick!!!

You don't have to be 25 years younger, I think of all the things I could teach him, now that I'm wiser. :rolleyes1 What did Noel say about the meat? I would repeat it but Capt Spanx would have an ugly Hooters flashback.

It was Dick Vitale who was ugly . . . you women keep talking about male models, and I will have to have a better Hooters flashback, and I am sure I could teach those young ladies a thing or two, no spanx required!

Wow Lisa . . . this would have been right before the cruise you guys were supposed to go on with us! If I remember, you canceled for another reason.

Yep, and there would have been no way we could have gone. After the accident, we were discussing it (right around Dec 9th!) and realized we couldn't have gone...he couldn't carry luggage and was in a lot of pain. When we booked the cruise, we opted not to get travel insurance. The accident was only a few weeks before the cruise, and if we were still booked, we couldn't have gone....so while I was disappointed at the time that we had to cancel, I do realize everything happens for a reason! (Oh, and the reason we originally cancelled was because Mark got a promotion within HP on a different product line and didn't feel comfortable taking so much time off being new in the group with lots to learn.)

Thanks for the good wishes! I think the hardest part has been letting go of my anger, so I know where you're coming from. It's hard not to be angry when someone does something wrong to another innocent human (particulary when children are involved) because of lack of attention and then they basically get away with it. But like I said, I had to let go because anger brings bitterness and I just couldn't go to that place. There are so many worse things that can happened in life, so I'm choosing to count our blessings! :flower3:

Hi Kaylee,

I have never seen anything like this...I have to do this! Where exactly were you in Mexico? Was it a Disney excursion? Tell me more...:goodvibes

Deb

This was actually in Zihuatenejo. It wasn't on a cruise, we just went there for a week. As far as I can tell, only 3 cruise ships go to Zih/Ixtapa (NCL, Carnival and Celebrity). We were there 10 days and those were the only 3 ships we saw. I searched a bit for information on the program, but couldn't find much...maybe I need some lesons from Noel:thumbsup2 Here is the program at the hotel we happened to catch. I think it usually happens in December and January. We had a chance to see a bunch of adult sea turtles on Oahu last spring, it was neat to see their babies.

Tulum was my favorite beach that I have ever experienced...the sand was like baby powder, the water comfortably warm, and the coastline was magnificent. Just had to watch out for those Iguana's hiding in the rocks and popping out when you least expect them and some are VERY BIG!

I don't know if they have a day rate but DCL had rented out the pools so we did not have to get a room. We had a lovely time in the pools and a magnificent lunch. You might check the website and email them if you feel you need a room.

Boy, you guys have been chatty this weekend. MY DFIL was taken to the hospital by ambulence on Sat at 1pm (he was at a funeral of all things) and I was the only one in town to stay .... hang...with him. (he blacked out for about 10 minutes) So my kids faired pretty well on their own (17,13,10). He is here with me now...the doctor released him at 5pm tonight. They could not find anything wrong...so they adjusted his meds and off we went. He will stay till Tuesday when he will see his regular doc and then he will most likely go home. I am tired with the time change and all.....hanging out in a hospital for 30 hours is not much fun. I am so glad he is okay!!

At least it wasn't 911!

My oldest and youngest did dial 911. (about 10 years apart) The fire engines did come both times...Fairfax County sends fire and ambulences for all hang ups...

What! I just lose 40 posts! How weird! Well, it was suppose to be my 500! Lisa

I noticed you lost 40 as well.....did anyone else?? I wish it were that easy to lose 40 POUNDS!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Yes, seems like the TF has not found us yet...maybe she will soon!!

We sent in our passport renewals a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully it won't take too long to get them. We have time since we aren't leaving the country until August.

I sent mine in on Feb 14th. Friday, the checks cleared my checking account. When you go online, it says NO APPLICATION FOUND for my SS # :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

I worked at the Emporium on Main Street. I actually got to stay in Chatam it was nice, but I wasn't there alot. I was at the parks every day and I had a season pass to Seaworld so I went there once a week. I miss it so much (it was in 2005). I hope to go work down there again some day. :cloud9:

I love them too! When I was a kid, my mom used to take me to Mexico every spring (a couple times to Cancun before it got too touristy, and then to Ixtapa before it got touristy too) and she used to freak out when she'd hear or see an iguana crawl under her chair by the pool and I'd just crack up at her! They were so cute! Loved seeing their tails hanging over the roof at the hotel.

I'm a dog person....I have to admit I even get a little skittish around our rabbit and she is such a cute little mini lop.

laundry is that an evil word or what? it attacks us from our couch in the living room. okay very embarssing that people see it when they stop by....fortunately my DH did mass amounts of washing, drying and even folding today. Tonight it will be line up soldier and take your clothes to your room and put them in your drawers. I think with that we (me & the kids) could try to do it now while DH is a Wlagreens on an errand...that would be a nice come home to suprise huh? Wish me luck and speed in my quest....back later....

Laundry...YUCK. I always start the week with the best intentions...I'll do one load a day and keep up. 3 days later, the piles have already started. Today, start the process all over. Still have 3 more to do :sad2: Off to :laundy: now, so, you'll probably see lots of posts from me tonight, remember, princess: Queen of Procrastinationprincess: :lmao:

3 more loads? Ugggh....I feel for you. :headache: Good luck getting it done. Hang in there! At least you have the DIS to occupy your time waiting for the loads to finish! :thumbsup2

And what is up with the bowl of bugs I found in their bathroom? Argg...where is my DOD?!?!?!
Lisa

Lisa,

Still a day behind on posts, but we are HUGE House fans!!

He just keeps getting more and more despicable!! But we still like him! (What is wrong with this picture?) :rolleyes1

I remember the gum on the seatbelt as well!! :scared1: Ah, the memories...

I find it, book it, plan it, shop for it, obess over it, pack for it (ok he does help and packs his own bag) & pay for it (I claim whatever I earn goes towards vacations right now....Paul keeps hoping it will turn towards retirement, but that's just not fun enough for me (right now), I know soon enough it will be private school (high school and college) so for now I work for Disney, or at least to pay for Disney)

he also lifts the bags, but knows not to complain anymore, it hurts my tender feelings ( :lmao: )

:rotfl2: Oh my, Paul and Rafa will have so much to complain...I mean... talk about together in the cruise. Too bad that Rafa hasnīt yet taken my feeling into account and does complain his heart out :lmao:

DH wants us to buy an apartment to rent out, but I told him the money I earn is going toward the cruise, so donīt count with it.

Seeing myself on the Jumbotron is NOT an incentive, Woody!:) Carolyn

:rotfl2:

I tried to catch up a couple of days ago, and I was just starting to when the disboards went down on mainteinance. :sad2:

Actually, Noel was the first to catch this one. John did think that it was very funny too. I was hoping for a visit from the tag fairy for this slip of the fingers though.;) Always possible with a little faith, trust, and pixiedust:

OMG! That looks like a great party! It looks like a ton of work too....how many girls did you have? AG dolls are huge here still and that looks like a great party idea. I might have to try something like that...but it probably won't be outside. DD's bday is in June, but June here is lovely WA is almost always a yucky rainy month (and cold).

we had a party of 8 (as it was her 8th bday) my rule is the number of kids for how old you are turning. Keeps it manageable for the early years. I think now that she is 10 I will place an up to 10 limit on that idea.

Hey Julie: Nice to see you, I figured you had gone off to some important non Dis location...alas you fell under the laundry I'm sure....:lmao:

We made the mad rush and almost suceeded only to be caught by the darn pile of socks.....they mulitiply and subtract from themselves when we aren't looking you know. :scared1:

feeling a bit crabby here tonight...spring in the air it was 84 degrees here and too much clean up required around my house/yard. I feel this way every spring....I wish I had a wand to fix these troubles. But it will take a few weeks of me crabbing at DH and the kids to help, help, help then one major blow up and then we all get the point and get it cleaned up. Hmmmm....perhaps I should take a vacation from myself soon....:rolleyes1

Whew! Had to do a major search for a picture I could copy/paste.

To all you youngsters out there, that is Alejando Rey. He did a bazillion TV shows and lots of movies, like "Fun in Acapulco" with Elvis. He had a great smile, wish I could have found a picture of him smiling.

Smiling or not, he's cute and I remember him very well. Flying Nun anyone??:cool1:

A few things. First

LAUNDRY - is basically the main reason why I work full-time. By doing so, we have to have a nanny and one of the nanny's jobs is to do all our laundry. :cool1: I can never quit as I can't stand to do laundry. I had tricked my husband into doing it for years by keep leaving lipsticks in my pockets when doing the wash. :rolleyes1 The red on his shirts would bother him so he would say "I'll just do it myself." After a few years, he caught on.;)

BIRTHDAY PARTIES - Craziest I did was my son's 8th birthday. I thought it would be fun to invite some of his friends to a Hockey Game (San Jose Sharks). So we sent out the invite, figuring only few kids would be allowed to go. I thought some parents might not allow their kids to come, so we had a larger invite list. Turned out 18 children (including my 3) RSVP yes! :scared1: Oh my, it was crazy. Had to get more adults and trying to get the kids to the seats without losing any of them. Talk about anxiety! It was great fun though. We had Sharkie come visit. But I WOULD not recommend it for 8 year olds!

I finally got my thank you cards done from the holidays and such. Great to get that off my list!

Good night for awhile. Have to work on my board meeting that is tomorrow night. ARGG.

In Mexico last month, we lucked into a Sea Turtle Release. It was amazing...there were about 80 baby sea turtles that the foundation had been raising. At dusk, everyone got to take one and put it on the sand and watch these little guys make their way to the water. It was so great.

That sounds so cool!!!:cool1:

Would love to experience that!

I'm a certified Birthday Party freak!

Our group did the little flip flops for both the dolls and the girls as well at our AG party!! Very cool!!

Nanette,

What a great idea. I think I am done with home parties now. Both my girls have summer birthdays and we always do the pool thing. It turns out to be so much work for me. I will do this one next though if we do it at home.:goodvibes You really did a great job on this!

Nanette,

As you'll notice by my previous post, I don't do parties at home. (Ok, it's a few post after this, as the post got lost!!)
I totally admit to being too intense about mess and other things and having them elsewhere has always been great with very little clean up and prep.;)

Wise words to live by!! It would be so easy to be mad or bitter.

I'm so glad that none of you were seriously hurt!

You are so welcome to visit with your fish extender in hand as long as you have a DOD in the other hand. We're GTY5. I will let you know exact room as soon as we know. I hope it doesn't take until we arrive at the port, then how will we let everyone else know??? Maybe we need an on the boat update for all people with GTYs??? Any ideas would be welcome!pirate:

I love pictures of other peoples puppies!! (Less mess for me!!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: )

Me too! I think that's what kept me from getting bitter...how truly fortunate we were...the police kept saying that over and over. It could have been much worse, thank God, it wasn't! I count our blessings every day!

Well, it's so hot here with low humidity that in Northern Orange County there is a raging fire going on in Anaheim Hills. It was started by a car and it's so windy it took off. The fire dept. had to evacuate 200 homes but it's now 50% contained so the people can go back home. Tomorrow is expected to be warmer, which means continued red flag (high fire) warnings for the OC and Inland Empire. We live at the base of a hilly ecological reserve (called the Santa Rosa Plateau)--we have brush within a few streets of our home, which is unnerving during this heat. Hopefully it will pass so that the brush won't be of fire concern. We lived near Laguna Canyon in 1994 when they had the big fires....it was so terrifying that I have no desire to go through again. There was fire on every ridge surrounding our house...you could feel the heat and see the ashes and embers in the air. Scarey! Hey east coast...send some snow our way!!! :)
