DH might be changing jobs the next year, and if he does, he would most probably won´t have more than one week or 10 days permission to go on vacation so soon, so we have talked about it and agreed that if necessary, he would leave the ship in Acapulco and fly home the day the Magic docks there, and that DD and I will remain in the ship until the end of the cruise.
Have you ever known of someone doing something similar?
TIA
This should not be a problem.....we have talked about getting off and getting back on in the MED, to spend an extra day in a city....and driving to the next stop....I would let them know, but it should not be a problem at all!!
I know you will miss him, but then you will have to join with those of us who are traveling without a spouse!!

That's the reason we (my mom and I) ended up leaving the Greek Orthodox Church. They seemed to have issue with the fact that my mom was divorced, yet she is 100% Greek and was VERY involved with the Philoptihos (sp) and the church building board. So those ridiculous politics drove her and then me out (shortly after my marriage).
My problem has less to do with policies (which can of course be silly) - and more with politics. The priest who was at our "home" church left late last year. The rumor is that the parish council forced him to leave. There are rumors swirling everywhere as to the reason - and everyone who apparently really knows will not comment, and want to pretend as if nothing happened. I don't think it was anything he did "wrong", but a power struggle between some groups in the church that forced the ouster over a difference in philosophy and direction. Many of those same people are the people who have never made me feel at "home" in the church - even though my family has been lifelong members (other than my baptism at the other church), and my parent's constant attendance and steady contribution. We were never part of the "in" or governing group of the congregation. My father was a cleaner at Ford Motor Co, and my mother never worked - we would never (and did not) have any problems like Noel talked about, as my parents were and continued to be of very modest means.
We now have a priest who is actually divorced (how do you like that Lisa?) who is not a family man. I have always felt that to relate well to the young families, it is helpful to have a family man as a priest (he may be just a wonderful man otherwise - I don't know him yet), and he came here from Hawaii (who would want that transfer?).
At the other church, I have both of the families that baptized my children (my koumbari), and a priest who is a family man and devoted to children. People there also make you feel more at home and welcome, and I do not run into the "snobbery" that I see at my home church. So I am in a dilemma as to what to do. It is hard to leave the place you grew up in - no matter how unwelcome or detached you may feel.
I love my faith. I just abhor the politics.

Good morning, Marilyn!
Was just waiting for the DIS to come back up. I am doing some last minute laundry before we go to the Bodega House and also bills and other paperwork!!
DH has already gone up, taking tomorrow as a work from home (Bodega) day and he has the laptop, so I have to be slightly less productive and DIS from our home office!! (So spoiled, I know...)
I too have to watch my cholestoral. Would probably help if I could drop some more weight.
I have lowered it in the past utilizing a margarine called Take Choice and also Benecol. We currently use another that helps, but I can't think of the name.
I am also trying to get more oatmeal into my world. I am not a big fan of Oatmeal for breakfast, would rather have it in Oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, but I'm sure that defeats the purpose.
Hope you have a wonderful day!
Karen
Karen, we went straight off to the garden centre and aquarium shop. We are going to get a tropical aquarium soon which should be lovely and relaxing!!
I am glad you can get Benecol over there. I do actually eat their yogurts as I am not keen on the spread. I don't fancy the little drinks either. I usually eat my bread without, or we have low fat olive spread which has a nicer taste. I really need to lose some more weight which I had hoped to have done by now but.......!!!
Hope you have a great time at the Bodega Bay house. We will be gardening and painting.:sad1:

Well, what a beautiful day it's been here in the UK!:cool1:
Has it been lovely there too Maz? We too went off to the garden centre, bought some plants and have been in the garden all day, making the most of the sunshine.:hippie: I planted some roses, violas and a couple of Hebe shrubs :)
Glad there's not too much to catch up on today!:goodvibes
I think that my sister is doing a crown rack of lamb or pork for dinner, not sure. We are bringing some fresh crab to do as appetizers in a cocktail. And of course, there will be wine!!!
Karen
mmmmmmm an I come to dinner too?;) :lmao:

I started a LOST thread on the TV Talk section on the Ship of Thieves Discussion Board. This way we don't have to worry about spoilers and our UK friends can join us there when they've caught up with us.

Our two sons are great fans of Lost, but we decided not to get immersed when we heard they had at least 8 years of material. I don't think my brain would have stood up to the mysteries in the show!
Mandy we have had a lovely day just pottering. It is cooling down a little now. We ended up going to 2 garden centres with fish, and had a lovely cappuccino and fresh made fruit scone just out of the oven!!:cloud9: No butter on mine though!:sad2: Bought 2 conifers,:) and decided on the fish tank we want. Going to have Discus fish in the tank when we finally get it. Our son has discus so can help us as they can be a little temperamental.
Hopefully there is something good on the tv tonight.

it was high 60's low 70's this morning...
on a sad note, our local (Tampa area) meteorologist apparantly killed himself. He has been broadcasting for 13 years and was 39 years old. Everyone is shocked....he was always the one we watched during any evacuation or hurricane related issues. Although I didn't know him presonally, I felt as though I did, I mean, he was in "our home" daily. Prayers out to his family and friends...

They usually have about 1,000 at the Sunrise service.....It will be very interesting to see how many show up this year.

Wow-that's very unusual for a priest to be asked to leave the church, at least for the Greek Orthodox. I remember growing up with Father Nick at our Church in Houston, TX. He was there from the time I was little and I ran into someone who went to church there in recent years and said he was still there! So usually they're at the church until they die or retire.
My mom experience the snobbery at our church, which was a congregation filled with wealthy people so there was no hope for her....divorced and a secretary with a meager salary. Certainly there were good people there but if she wanted to be involved, she was subtly pushed away. She got fed up. It was really hard for us to leave the church (but we didn't leave religion). Being Greek Orthodox is a religion but it's also a lot about being Greek, in an ethnic sense. So I do miss that and the traditions, but we're very happy at the church we're at and people from all walks of life are embrace. And I will say, from going to our current church, my children know much more about God than I never knew at their ages, so it's been good...but miss those traditions!
I do find it interesting the priest is divorced. I can't wait to share that one with my mom...she'll get a chuckle out of that. I guess things have changed! Yes, to be the head of a church you need to be a family man and need to embrace families. That's a huge part of what the church is all about!!!

Holly, just noticed you go on your cruise the day before us. Wish ours was a 7 day one, but really am pleased to be doing a 4 day. Will be our first cruise.
Marilyn, I'm soooo excited for you about doing your first cruise...if you love World at all, doing the cruise brings you to an even higher level of loving the mouse. Before DCLing...we would take vacations at WDW and somewhere else and WDW and somewhere else....since DCL...we take vacations on DCL and DCL and DCL. I can NEVER get off the ship without knowing when I'm coming back and booking it before leaving....I've definitely got it bad....a real strong addiction to cruising on Mickey's ship. Wait until you see what happens to you.

We have had FIVE priests at this church since I was growing up! The "ruling class" is hard to satisfy. It is interesting that your mom and my family had similar experiences. I was asked several years ago to be on the parish council, and declined - even though my income may now be greater than some of those who my family was not good enough for in the past, those memories are hard to forget. The school board is bad enough politics for me - the church is WORSE!
As to the divorce, I was told that as long as he now remains celibate, and does not remarry, he can remain a priest. If he were ever to remarry, he could then not be a priest.
Glad you found somewhere you feel comfortable and happy. That is the most important thing - something we are still struggling with, and is further complicated because Amy was raised Lutheran. I really enjoy Orthodoxy and all that goes with it - I just want to go to church for worship and fellowship - not politics! To think, mom desperately wanted me to become a priest!

I remember the times my mom and I would drive home from church with the lit candle. I'd be so stressed that I'd set something on fire...she'd be driving so I'd be holding the candle and I was young. You know the whole, don't play with fire thing and then I'm holding a lit candle in a car! Phew! But you're right, it is truly a spiritual experience. I too, not knowing the words to what I was singing, found it all very peaceful!
Lisa, my mom and grandmother tell stories of riding the NYC subways with the candles lit after midnight mass. They lived in Brooklyn when my mom was very young, then Queens where she graduated HS, then they journeyed out to Long Island, where I was born, then my mom went to the East End of Long Island, where I was raised. Now I'm living in PA and retiring in DE. What a migration over three generations!princess:

My health is fine but have had some family issues related to inheritance etc. to deal with the lawyers and my surviving siblings etc. We had to deal with some issues regarding my deceased sister's surving son which were not properly handled in my father's trust. Resolution is not what we wanted but my father did not want to pay large legal fees so many of the contingencies that are in my DH and my personal trust were not covered in my father's trust.
Needless to say, it sure would have been less expensive in the long run if my father would have spent the money on the front end with my lawyer instead of the one he used really did not even want to administer the trust. My sister made eleven phone calls to her after my father's death which were not returned. Her only response was an acknowledgement of the transfer via letter from the new trust attorney of the transfer.
Lesson learned by my siblings is making a very basic trust with an attorney who makes basic trusts without considering ramfications has cost our family several hundred thousand dollars in legal and tax fees. Basic mistake the attorney made is not properly advising us to deal with the issues of money and property that my sisters minor son would inherit as a minor in the year before my fathers death.
On top of that stressful situation, I had to help my middle DD by taking care of her children while they deal with some medical issues related to her husband. With that and Easter this weekend, I may be on and off the computer through the weekend.
The family estate, the grandkids, the holiday...you have a lot going on right now in your life. Understandable that you have little DIS time available. Just know that we're all here for you whenever you can get away for a while. You may enjoy the distraction from your other realities!:grouphug: :rolleyes1

With Lamb it's Pinot, Pinot and Pinot!! Pinot Noir is really great with lamb, but it is not a very dry wine. You might try one of other Syrah that you ordered, the Petite Sirah or the O'Brien Merlot that you ordered.
We've decided to take the Stump Jump, which I think I am going to like, and we're taking the Petite Sirah. When in doubt, do both...I say.:woohoo:
Whites don't generally go that well with lamb, but it does depend on how it is being prepared.
With garlic and lemon, then making a gravy out of that...I'll just bring both wines and see which goes better after sampling each.:thumbsup2
We are going up to Bodega on Friday and then we will pop back for Easter at my sister's house. It's only an hourish drive.

Family and time away is what it's all about! Do enjoy and bring plenty of wine!!!:hippie:

Hope you have a great time at the Bodega Bay house. We will be gardening and painting.:sad1:
Marilyn,
I didn't know that Benecol came in yogurt and drinks??:confused3
We actually use the Smart Balance now. It really tastes more like butter and has the same plant esters (sp?) that assist with cholesterol reduction.:thumbsup2
We are huge fans of Aquariums!! Have talked about getting one, but I know that I would be in charge of keeping it clean, so it is on "hold" until I retire!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
DH is already up at the house; cold and a bit foggy, but I love that, so it will be fine with me!! Working till around 3:30, then errands, packing the kid and the car and then we should be up there tonight. I'll probably be back on the DIS at my regular time late tonight (early tomorrow!).

Only 399 days!?!?!?!
This cruise will be here before you know it!
Going to brave Disneyland this weekend. It's the first weekend since my foot surgery that I will be able to go. I know it will be really crowded but I am going anyway!
Kim,
I have lots of issues with my feet and achilles tendons. We usually get one of the motorized wheelchairs for me to assist with getting around. I can usually walk the parks for a couple of days, then I need the cart for a day, etc. If I don't use them, I literally can't walk for weeks after.:sad2:
Hopefully you won't need it, but they are at the Guest Services to the right as you go into Disneyland and to the left in Cal Adventure.:thumbsup2

Sounds so yummy!!!! I love fresh scones!!!:coffee:
Bought 2 conifers,:) and decided on the fish tank we want. Going to have Discus fish in the tank when we finally get it. Our son has discus so can help us as they can be a little temperamental.

Deb,
We've done all of the above! We always color eggs, this year we will do them in Bodega which is fun as the counter is so big. We usually use the plastic eggs for the Easter egg hunts in the past, but all of the kids have gotten so big!:sad2:
We also did the Easter egg fight a couple of years ago and it was a lot of fun!!
I still do Easter baskets for my family and close friends, usually See's candy and some sort of goody. I am doing some coffee mugs in a couple of my friends baskets and a cd and dvd for DD in hers. I often find cute "bunny" Jim Shore items for one of my dearest friends and for my sister.
I think that my sister is doing a crown rack of lamb or pork for dinner, not sure. We are bringing some fresh crab to do as appetizers in a cocktail. And of course, there will be wine!!!
Karen
WOW Karen, that's a lot to do for Easter. Your Easter is like my Christmas. We only do the eggs. We used to do baskets when the GSs and Nephews were little, but now all four are teens and we don't do it for them. Not sure if their parents are doing anything with them.
Now dinner is another story....that's always the way to celebrate in my family too...and there will always be wine!!! Enjoy your meal and your company. It sounds delicious and fun!

You know for a couple of years there's been all this controversy over retailers going out of their way not to mention "Christmas" during the Christmas season? Everything is "Holiday" sales and "Holiday" trees and "Happy Holidays." Anyway, I saw a new one today: our local library is having a Spring egg hunt...not an Easter egg hunt. Oh, brother. Now I know that eggs don't really have a darn thing to do with the Christian Easter, but what is a spring egg hunt?
Are we supposed to change our money too? It says, "In God We Trust". I really dislike it when other people try to force their value systems on me. I say, live and let live.
John,
I was also raised Lutheran. My mom and dad were very involved with our congregation when I was younger. My mom did Sunday school there too. Then a new pastor came in and everything changed. Really ruined if for my folks. They never really found another church to get involved with after that.:sad2:
Politics and snobbery are not what true worship are really about. It's such a shame that it is so prevalent.
Go with your heart. Everything else will follow!

We have not found that here in OR, but we just have not fit in here in many ways. 20 years is a pretty good try, but the beautiful shoes just don't fit. We are hoping to find the spiritual place for us in Montana as well as a social fit.

Cruising is very addicting. My friend Cindy wasn't looking forward to our cruise this past January. She was nervous and not thrilled about being on the water and cooped up for 8 days. Before the end of the cruise, she was absolutely hooked! Within a couple days after the cruise, she was already planning her next one and is booked on this one with me. She's trying to squeeze on in before this one somewhere too.

Still feel lousy, so took more Nyquil and am headed back to bed after being awake for a little over an hour. Fortunately, I don't have to get up in the morning and can literally sleep until picking Tyler up at 5pm. At least my chest doesn't hurt anymore from coughing, and I'm not lightheaded and feverish like I was all day yesterday, so I'm definitely on the mend. They are supposed to be in Burlington until April 15th. I heard one of the employees say she thought they were going to be at Totem Lake in Kirkland after that. So how do you save 2 signature pictures? That's what I can't figure out. Or do I need to upload the other as a picture, like I did with the magnets?

Stephaine, has her signature picture uploaded to the DIS, so she would need a single picture of 100x500 pixel or 19.5k which ever is smaller? To have more then one photo/image, she would have to host them on a separate site, ie, photobucket.

Been sleeping on and off. Managed to make it through the 1/2 day at work today, went home and back to bed around 2pm or so, woke up at 8pm and wasn't sure if it was still today or if I had slept through to 8am! :lmao: Read the past couple pages here, got caught up, fortunately not much to catch up on. Hopefully by Sunday I'll be well enough for the 3 hour roundtrip to my dad's for our family get-together. :goodvibes
Goodnight all!

We are coloring eggs tomorrow and we may either hide some eggs in the field next to us or go to the planned hunt here at the Harbour Golf Course. DD is kinda' getting a little old for the hunt...:sad1:

Yup, I'm still here Deb!!
DH and I are watching The Departed. It's easier to watch non-kid movies in Bodega as DD's room here is very sound proof and she doesn't hear our movies like she can at our house in Martinez.

Good Night Karen....
Tomorrow we take Angel to the vet for a puppy wellness check up, then we dye red eggs with the boys, then their parents should be here to pick them up. They didn't do very well in Atlantic City so they should be back early afternoon. Tomorrow night is church and then Sunday is dinner with the whole family, both sides getting together. John's kids and grands and my mom and stepdad. He has the younger ones, I have the older ones and we all live closeby and we never have conflicts.:wizard:

Hi Karen, glad I'm not here alone again. How do you like the Departed? I know what you mean about the TV noise...mine and DH's conflict all the time. We don't like watching the same things...unless it's a movie.
Our weather sucks...freezing cold, snow flurries, lots of wind. Not Easter Sunday weather at all!
We're opening the Stump Jump on Easter. It's been too insane around here with boys and their dog and mine and cat, we haven't had a chance to just chill and enjoy it. We'll wait until Sunday and do it before dinner.
Sounds like a nice cozy night for you...are all your baskets finished? What color eggs are you doing this year? We're doing red ones tomorrow with the boys. We'll just do the fight before dinner and not hide any. The boys are 14 and 15 already. We spent the day getting their clothes ready for our cruise in October. Need to have them spiffy for our formal night pictures.

Good Morning, Snowing in Washington DC.....how crazy is that?
Tuesday is was 84 degrees, today it is snowing.....
My mom has been sick all week. She is 83 years old. She would not let me take her to the doctor. Now, this morning, she decides she is really sick. She would not listen to me all week. I will most likely be in the hospital most of the day with her.....the has the cough, cold, running nose thing.
She wants so much to take care of everything on her own, as she always has. We have been so lucky with her health. She has had her issues, but her mind is sound. She has broken her back 8 times now in 5 years....
She really needs my help, yet won't take it most of the time.....until (like today) she just can't stand it anymore.

The nurse thinks I will have to go on medication for the high cholesterol - tried the diet and enhanced yogurts but not helped.
We changed from farenheight to celcius quite a few years ago and we are slowly getting used to it. When we have high temperatures everyone resorts to farenheight as it sounds so much better saying those temperatures!!!
Mmm, sorry about the high cholesterol, I hope the medication will help you.
Lol about using farenheight for high temps.
This should not be a problem.....we have talked about getting off and getting back on in the MED, to spend an extra day in a city....and driving to the next stop....I would let them know, but it should not be a problem at all!!

I was sooo sleepy last night but I had to finish a book I started and then a really good forensic files was on....I tried to stay up until the end, but crashed. This morning I got up and decided it was time to purge the filing cabinet....fun stuff. On my third load of laundry and trying to get the house straightened up in general. John is working until around 4 or 5. One of our waterfalls in the pool is not working correctly and I have no clue how to fix it....?? Neither does Johnny.
The girls are engrossed in Disney Channel and I guess I better conjure up something for lunch.
I can't imagine what it must be like to have your own pool. I do think of trying a villa in Orlando, but we enjoy staying onsite too much. That sounds like we have stayed onsite many times, but we have only had 2 trips onsite!! Enjoy the pool.:)
Morning Cruisers! I actually slept in this morning (well after a 5:30 'wake up call' from Acoma wanting her breakfast, then returning to bed). Now I am hungry, hungry, hungry! Who wants to join me for cyber-breakfast at Kona Cafe at the Polynesian for some Tonga Toast?
Now I just have to figure out real life breakfast. Hmmmm, wonder if sister and brother in law are up yet? Hmmmm, wonder if they want to meet up for breakfast? I feel the need for a black olive and mushroom omlette with a side of bacon and fruit. Oh, lordy, now I'm even MORE hungry.
Catch ya later kids......think we'll hit 13,000 today??
I will join you for cyber Tonga toast!!! Have a lovely day.

Good Morning, Snowing in Washington DC.....how crazy is that?

My mom has been sick all week. She is 83 years old. She would not let me take her to the doctor. Now, this morning, she decides she is really sick. She would not listen to me all week. I will most likely be in the hospital most of the day with her.....the has the cough, cold, running nose thing.
She wants so much to take care of everything on her own, as she always has. We have been so lucky with her health. She has had her issues, but her mind is sound. She has broken her back 8 times now in 5 years....
She really needs my help, yet won't take it most of the time.....until (like today) she just can't stand it anymore.
 to you and your Mum, hope she recovers soon.
Just want to go back to bed, but have to do dishes and laundry. Have to go buy a couple more things for Tyler's Easter basket. Uggghhh.....I don't even have the energy to get out of my pajamas. Just do it and get it over with and maybe I can sleep a couple more hours before picking him up.
Have a great day everybody!
oh Holly, you still sound very poorly, sound sliek you need some TLC

disneylover5 - prayers to your mom! She sounds like my Grandma, she does not go to the doctor for anything and has been very lucky with her health. Last year she was in so much pain she finally had my mom take her to the dr...turns out she had to have her gall bladder out and the surgeon said it was the worst he'd ever seen. I think that scared her a bit though.
I am not she if I told you all already but my mom applied for her citizenship! I am not sure everything it entails but I'm sure she'll keep me posted.

I've never had Tonga Toast either...read lots about it though. It sounds very very sweet....not sure how much I could handle!
Looking for a good recipe for tonight's dinner....I have been cooking quite a bit lately and made a shrimp dinner the other night that DH and Samantha raved about. There were NO leftovers....and if I hadn't put the pan in the sink so quick I would be willign to bet John would have been scraping up the remanents.

Well, to be honest I have only had the Boatright version - Banana stuffed French toast. Yes, it was very sweet but gorgeous. I even had the strawberry sauce with it too.:rotfl: I also tried the French Toast Loaf at MK and that was soooo good too!!! Mmm, you can see I have a sweet tooth. This sounds great! I love seafood and would be happy if I could eat it every day......YUM! :goodvibes
Very sleepy, but gave up trying to sleep. The gurgling/crackling sound when I exhale was keeping me awake. Very disturbing sound....never heard that before. So headed for a quick shower to see if that will help me wake up a bit, will try to sleep sitting up on the couch for a couple hours before having to go get the rest of the Easter basket stuff and pick up Tyler.

Thats correct...it was my contribution to the other thread. I think they turned out well. I plan on being early to the terminal so I can surprise people by putting them on their doors before they board. An additional welcome from a disboard friend.
I'll be curious to know how putting them on their doors goes since I'm doing the same for our thread. Vanessa and John indicated on a previous cruise they attempted to do the same but because of a lot of last minute changes and upgrades, it became a nightmare so I kinda got worried. I'm hoping the master list we're compiling will help avoid that. (I'm compiling it and Noel is the keeper of the master list and people will call her stateroom voicemail with any last minute cabin changes, hopefully that will work!) Good luck!!!!

Thinking way ahead here...but since the girls haven't flown I am going to get each a backpack and fill with goodies and ship that to the port and just keep it hidden until we board the return flight home....that way all the stuff will be new to them.
There is a dollar store in the same shopping center as John's store...they have tons of Disney stuff....hair bows, nail polish, bags, crowns, you name it! I could have a hey day in there! I would like to get a portable DVD but fear the need for two so no fighting. I have also thought about getting a refurbished ipod for Samantha...she loves listening to the portable CD player, I just wish there was some kind of max volume you could set, she thinks the highest level is the best! I just fear their behavior on the plane...it will be totally new for them and I am sure they will be excited --- I can only hope!
In a way I wish the cruise was here, but love knowing I have a year to get all our junk together and save for that HUGE onboard bill I am sure we'll have!

Lisa - a lot of the people on our cruise dropped categories at the last minute because the price dropped putting them in a GTY status I think for this cruise the list you are all compiling will pretty much be it...I have a feeling there will be no upgrades at the port available!

and that is why this year I am doing generic --- not individual name personalized --- so that if I see a fish, stocking or anything relating to DIS - I know I can leave it at the cabin door. Last cruise I had to match up the names with the people....I had such a headache before I boarded!!

V, if you get a nano, you can set a max volume and have a passcode to lock it in. A nano 2gb silver refurbished, from Apple is running around $119.00 not as cheap as the shuffles, but you have the volume feature. Also you can build playlists on the nano, not on the shuffle.

V,
Check into the Disney Mix Stick. It is a lot cheaper than an ipod, etc. I have one and I don't believe you set the volumne but I have very sensitive ears and it doesn't seem to go too loud for me. It has 256 MB inner storage but you can add up to a GB SD Chip. Down loading to it works just like an ipod. They even make them now that play videos.

Good luck with your mom today. My good thoughts will be coming your way this weekend and herein forward on this issue.
I have the other issue on my hands. My mom is turning 80 this summer. Her body is in pretty good shape, but her mind is going more and more each day. We moved her into a retirement staged care (independent, assited and skilled nursing as needed) community last year (after dad died) it was hard to tell her she couldn't go back to her home (@ Lake Almanor 6 hours by car from us) again, even harder moving her without her input. She is still upset about that. She thinks she should have been there to move everything, but if she was it would have been impossible to pack her stuff up. My family and I did the last weekend with her at her house and packed up the precious stuff, then my sister went up the following weekend with movers and hauled all the rest of it out. I handle her finances and medical care (funny I have 3 other sisters, one who helps all the time the other 2 are pretty removed and just don't see what has to happen to keep up her care.) If only it could be a shared job then each of us could feel ok, rather than one (me) or 2 feelings exhausted with it all the time. Oh well, I'm the one who knew it would be me to do it, so I guess that's just life I can't just ignore it, that's not the daughter my mother raised.
Moving on...we did the Bunnies & Bonnets parade In Campbell this morning with the troop. The girls had fun, it was chaos at it best, small town parading.
We have a bbque later today and that's it until hopefully the beach tomorrow...we are doing a drive by a new listing, fingers crossed. It's a fixer not on a very big lot, but it's been months since anything has been worth looking at so this is better than nothing I guess.
Happy Easter to all, see ya later,

Thanks, but definitely not feeling better. Just barely staying awake for another 20 minutes until I can pick up Tyler. Counting down the hours until I can go to bed. I usually have him in bed at 7:30, so I'll be in bed right after that. When he wakes up in the morning, I'll probably be bad and let him watch a DVD while he eats breakfast so I can sleep a little more before going out of town to my dad's. I literally only plan on staying there an hour, or however long it takes to eat and do our egg hunt, and then we'll rush back home. Once they see how miserable I feel, I'm sure they'll understand. I'd completely skip the holiday if I hadn't missed Christmas (because other family was coming to my house) and Thanksgiving (because Tyler was at his dad's and I had to study for final exams).
I hope everybody is having fun with the Easter preparations! I'm so glad I go to the meal so I don't have to cook. I don't ever cook anyway, so that would be a disaster! I just hope my appetite is back by tomorrow. ;)

Annie is doing much better now thank you for asking!! She finished her 10 days of antibiotics this morning. She still has a little sore throat and a running nose, but she is much much better.
Gretchen's finger is GROSS. I should take a picture of it and post it (YUCK). It does not hurt much anymore....just as black as black can be!
I got to my mom's (about 1 hour drive) and she started her stubborness again. This morning on the phone she was dying....she let me go get her meds, grocery shop, and help her with her bills. She would not go to the doctor or hospital. She is now under 100 pounds .... she has lost 15 pounds in 18 months. She was coughing, hacking and could not breathe. She would not come back to my house. I just hate it....she should NOT be alone!!

So 4.5 weeks after I sent them in without the fee, they finally got returned to us today. They sent along a form letter with a list of reasons why it was returned. The lack of fee payment was highlighted but it wasn't a human made highlight, it was machine made. So I guess I'm not the only one to do this and have to say "d'oh".

Nan,
Your mom is very lucky to have you! I know how hard it is, I was the sibling that pretty much took care of my mom, but my sister did come down and spend the weekends with my mom to give me a break. She was very sharp, just had renal failure and diabetes. She was on dialisys for the last two years of her life and we helped her with that. Never had to move her out of her house, but had been planning for her to move to the house behind us that she and my sister would live in. She never made it there, but sister still moved in and that has been such a blessing.
Both of my grandma's had to be "enrolled" in convalescent hospitals. It was very hard to do, but they both were sufferning from Alzheimer's/dementia and it was too hard to try to take care of them at home. One lived to 87, the other to 95, and it was just the last 3 to 5 years of their lives that they were not sharp!
Try to always take a little time for yourself after your visits to her. And try to always remember the good times with her as well.

Bought the wrong Easter egg coloring dye and DH tried to find the right one while he was out and about (have to go about a half hour away to find much outside of Bodega Bay).
He called and "no go" all coloring kits sold out! He is bringing "neon food coloring" and we will do the coloring the old fashioned way!!

Reading everybody's pots, just to tired to reply to anybody. After picking up Tyler, he reminded me that he wants to leave carrots for the Easter bunny for a snack, so we had to go to the grocery store. Standing in line, I started to sweat. Long line....by the time it was my turn to check out, I was shivering with the chills. This is absolutely nuts! Fortunately, Tyler is completely over it, so I hope I don't give it back to him. Yucky stuff. :sad2:
Goodnight all! I'm headed back to burrow under my new, warm, luxurious llama blanket! :goodvibes Of course, first, "the Easter bunny" has to assemble Tyler's basket, eat some carrots, and hide some eggs inside and in the front yard.

Mandy, it is even nicer today than yesterday here, so went out instead of decorating!! If the weather was of the usual Easter variety we would be inside painting!!!!
Car alarms are a pain! As far as being a 'grumpy old woman', if people didn't do things to make us that way we would be ok.
When we were out having a lovely coffee outside in the sun:love: ), we were chatting holidays, and for 2009 we are thinking of taking 6 weeks and visit a few places in the US!!!:woohoo: This would be for, and over, our 40th wedding anniversary. It started out as 6 weeks touring Europe and changed direction! Wonder if we will be able to fit a cruise in somewhere. Only problem is I now have another holiday to plan.
WOW 40 years in 09...that is quite an accomplishment. Congratulations! John and I will never make it that long because we started too late. We'll hit 20 years in 2010 and really do a big celebration for that one. I would like to renew my vows, maybe on DCL. That would be awesome.
How about you and John Marilyn? Will you renew your vows for your 40th?

the girls are in the tub and have decided on Peter Pan as their movie of choice for the evening.
I just started a book "My Sister's Keeper" and so fr it is great....this 13 year old just walked into an attorney's office to sue her parents for right's to her own body. Their first daughter has leukemia and they had her via egg and sperm in a clinical sense so she would be a perfect match to help the daughter with treatments, etc.
LOVED this book...could not put it down...then end will totally throw you off!!

We are feeling the same pain with our pool. We have been trying to get it ready for swimming all week and it just won't clean correctly. Shawn has taken apart every possible part on the equipment that he knows how to. The cleaner and filter have been running for two straight days. At least the waterfall works! It has been in the low 90's the last few days and the girl's just want to get in the pool. They have grown tired of going down to Lifetime Fitness to go swimming!
Vanessa,
You CAN set the maximum volume on ipods . . . you can even protect it with a combination so that a child cannot modify it.

Hi All:
Just back from my whirlwind trip to California. We actually had a great time. Took 9 hours yesterday to get there, a few hours shopping and then on the road back home. Stopped for a few hours sleep and then some tax free shopping (of course) in Oregon before heading home. My girlfriend is going through a hard time with a friend who is 1 month out of rehab for pain pill addiction and is using again so she really enjoyed the time away to just be relaxed and silly while :drive: :drive: :drive:.
I must say the stretch of I5 between Rosedale, OR and Redding, CA is beautiful with tons of great looking activities. I think we are going to spend a week down there next summer. The weather yesterday was great, hit 90, and then today back to rainy and 50's:sad2:
Haven't had a chance to read the pages I missed, hope to someday, but for now, I will start here.....
Hope everyone had a great weekend. We were hoping to have Easter at our house (IL's have had some health probs and get tired easily these days) but my IL's decided that it would be easier if we got to their house early, helped them clean and cook, stayed until everyone was gone and then cleaned up before going home! The shocker, DH said sure that sounds great :scared1:

V, if you get a nano, you can set a max volume and have a passcode to lock it in. A nano 2gb silver refurbished, from Apple is running around $119.00 not as cheap as the shuffles, but you have the volume feature. Also you can build playlists on the nano, not on the shuffle.
You can set max on the shuffle too . . . (from Apple's site)
With iTunes 6.0.5 or later and iPod shuffle Software 1.1.4 or later, you can now set a maximum volume limit for your iPod shuffle.

Lisa, I can so relate about your mom because mine is the same way. She's only 73 but she's just as stubborn and independent. She has been in the hospital 4 times in 3 months and really needs better care than what she is doing on her own, but she won't let you help at all. It's very frustrating because you can't force her and yet you see that she really needs the help.
She has let me take her to some follow up doctor appointments and for some tests since she has been out of the hospital from this last stay. But that's all. She insists on driving herself and going to the supermarket and running errands. She still cooks and cares for her house. But she procrastinates when it comes to doing something for her health and she doesn't do all of her follow up care properly.
It's so hard to sit by and let it be because you know you can help and make it better for her, but she doesn't want that. You can only do what she lets you do. I don't push the matter because the last thing I want is to be fighting with her. So I let her have her way and then I wait for that dreaded telephone to ring and tell me something terrible has happened.
I know exactly what you're going through Lisa. If you find anything that helps, please let me know and I'll try it too. In the meantime, it's great to know that I'm not alone in my dilemma and thanks for sharing.:flower3:

Oh . . . . I know exactly what you mean Nanette . . . it is so hard to be at this stage of life and watch your parent's age before your eyes. My Dad is going to be 85 - and he is heading down the same road. It is also hard to be that ONE sibling that is expected to do it all.
But in the end, you know you are doing the right thing.

In a way I wish the cruise was here, but love knowing I have a year to get all our junk together and save for that HUGE onboard bill I am sure we'll have!
V - kids on planes..DGS flew from Phoenix to Portland by himself to hook up with us for cruise in Dec. His mom had gotten lots of books, markers, etc to keep him busy. Well, he used the markers, but not on the books. His hands and arms were completely covered with marker when he got off the plane. The steward who was assigned to watch him said he hoped HE (the steward) would not get into trouble for that. :lmao: I assured him that no one gets in trouble from Grandmas. ;) Now I had bought colored pencils for the trip to Florida, but alas, he still had those markers Mom sent. :sad2: We did manage to keep them on the paper for the rest of our trip and I made him promise not to write on himself when I put him on the plane home.

I just hope my appetite is back by tomorrow. ;)
I've got the chills today, but my mom's uncle and friend sent me an awesome llama wool blanket from Peru a couple days ago -- perfect timing! I've never felt something so warm, heavy, and soft! It's absolutely wonderful, especially when sick! :cloud9:
Could you and Tyler's dad work it out so that he could keep him for a couple of days while you recover? Then you can skip the drive to the family for dinner and just sleep it off until it's gone. Just a suggestion. I'd love for you to get better. I feel so bad that you're so sick for so long and not improving. You have to stop pushing yourself and stay down until it goes away. Soon it will be time to get ready for church - services start at 11:00, conclude at about 2:00 - tonight we go to receive the Light!
At midnight, the church is darkened, and the priest comes out with ONE lit candle, the light coming back into the world. When the entire congregation then lights candles, and the priest goes outside the front doors of the church, and reads the Gospel of the Resurrection to the world.
After Church, a fellowship meal to break the fast in the social hall. Alex has been fasting all of Lent - no meat for 40 days. It will be strange for me this year, because my mom is not with us - she would cook while we were at church every year, and we would go to mom and dad's for an Easter dinner until 3 am . . . no avgolemono soup for me this year.
Have a Blessed Easter and Pascha everyone.

I ended up with a standing rib roast for tomorrow's dinner, with a salad, mashed potatoes, asparagus and peas and strawberry shortcake for dessert. I wish I could make Yorkshire Pudding...I always feel you need that with beef!
I am feeding the girls now, Samantha wanted a kid's frozen dinner so I obliged....we played outside a bit in the COOL weather - so after dinner tubs again and then bed. Tonight I am moving their playroom tv into their bedroom for a treat. So one movie before bed but I bet they will be out before it's over.
What's everyone else cooking?
I made potato salad today and broiled a couple of rib eyes and some asparagas for dinner.
Tomorrow I am doing very untraditional. I'm making chicken/grape/almond salad (DrHug's favorite) with mashed yams and a green salad with mandarin oranges and an apple pie for dessert.

Nice thought, but his dad and stepmom are starting to get sick with the same thing too, so we're all in the same boat. At least mine is further along than theirs, and closer to the end, so I'm better off. And I slept so much the last few days when he was gone, I should be fine soon. I'm still awake, so I must be improving because this is the longest stretch I've stayed awake lately (except for when I had to go to work). But I'm headed to bed now to keep getting better! :goodvibes I'm just whiney because I only get sick maybe once every other year, so when I do get sick, it just seems so extreme because of how long it's been since I was sick before.

I wish I had answers. My mom has always been this way. When my dad started to go downhill, I was the one who had to take the car keys away, really made my dad sad. He dies shortly thereafter. That was 1999. My mom has been okay by herself until the last 12 months. I wish she would just come live with us. We have the room and my kids LOVE having her here. IN the last 12 months, she has been here about 4 months.
I have two older brothers. One does little or nothing for mom (he lives in DE) and my other brother lives in SC. He handles all mom's money. Boy, does that make her MAD!! She wants to take care of her own money and she calls me up and cusses about my brother and the bank all the time!! I am glad he helps in that way. I do everything else......and I love it. My mom does not believe that....she thinks she is a burden and I tell her all the time "The best present you can ever give me is the honor of helping you and taking care of you" and she says B**LSH*T....she has always had a mouth on her :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Maybe we can get our mom's to be roommates? My mom is still in the huge house she raised us in. It was built in 1960 and no one else has ever lived there except our family. She can not bear to sell it......

:sad2: We did manage to keep them on the paper for the rest of our trip and I made him prooumise not to write on himself when I put him on the plane home.
A good trick to help with this problem is the color wonder markers! They only color on the color wonder paper. You can buy coloring books for them or blank paper. They stink a bit, but work great. My DD first got some when she was 2 and flying to Hawaii and it worked great!

So we took the puppy, Angel, to the vet today for a wellness visit and some shots. She weighs 25.4 lbs. and she'll be 12 weeks old in three days. She was 15 lbs. when we took her home, so she gained 10lbs. in just one month. The vet said that's a good amount for her size and she's very healthy.
Sandi and Joe (DD and DSIL) took the boys home today. YEAH!!! Tom is going to be 16 at the end of this month and Kris is going to be 15 this summer. They were good, just very hectic and crazy and noisy and busy and chaotic. Kris talked to his girlfriend on his cell phone the whole entire visit. I think he only put the phone down to sleep and I'm not even sure about that. Tom works for my neighbor behind my house. He has all kinds of animals, lions, tigers, bears, yes all of the above, and Tom helps feed, water, and clean the animals for him. So it was easy for Tom to get to work these past two days...yes, we live in a very rural community. Everybody has acreage and no one can see their neighbors house from their own. I like having my privacy with lots of land and space around me.
Karen, as soon as the kids left, John and I opened and finished the bottle of Stump Jump. I liked it. Very citrius smelling, tasting, very light and refreshing and dry. We chilled another bottle to bring with us tomorrow since we killed this one. John said, it has a twist off cap. He was very surprised by this.:wizard:

I made potato salad today and broiled a couple of rib eyes and some asparagas for dinner.
Tomorrow I am doing very untraditional. I'm making chicken/grape/almond salad (DrHug's favorite) with mashed yams and a green salad with mandarin oranges and an apple pie for dessert.
We had almost the exact dinner last night! Rib eyes, Asparagas and Yukon gold potatoes!
Your untraditional dinner tomorrow sounds good too!
Enjoy!

For those of you discussing taking care of your mothers, my heart goes out to all of you and kind of know what you are going through (watched my mom go through it for years). My GM moved out here after my GF died. She had severe dementia and would not remember anything. She would yell at us all the time. It was harder on my mom as she was the only one to take care of her over her last 10 years. My aunt never saw my GM again after 1995, she died in 2005 and my uncles both passed away in 1995. There is a great book called the 72 Hour Day, which talks mostly about caretaking for people with alzheimer's, but gives some great tricks at handling their frustration and anger at where they are now in life. You all sound like you are doing a wonderful job and will cherish the thought that you are there when they need you. :grouphug:

Kali Anastasi! (Happy Resurrection)
For 40 days after tonight, all Orthodox greet each other with:
Christos Anesti! (Christ is Risen!)
and respond with:
Alithos Anesti! (truly he is risen)
Enjoy your evening and celebration John. Your mom is still with you, she's singing on High!! An angel on your shoulder.

sounds awesome!
the girls are in the tub and have decided on Peter Pan as their movie of choice for the evening.
That is a great book. It was one of my favorites from my book club last year.

That book sounds like a great one. What was the one mentioned earlier in the week about time and travel or something like that? I think it was Nan and Angel who said they loved it but I could be wrong. I just can't seem to ever get the search to work here.

I knew you might like this one as you said you liked dry wines. It's description and content make you think that it will be sweet, but it is very dry and very refreshing at the same time!!
Having just one child, and a very well behaved, quiet one at that, it is always hard for me when other kids are around! Especially boys!! We are having two of her friends (twins) come up to the Bodega house on Monday with their folks, and then they will stay a couple of days with us. It will be good for her to have her friends here, but it will be more work for me when it gets time for clean up, etc.
