Yes, Estrella will be 5 when we cruise, she turned 4 on the Wonder cruise.

I think she will be with your youngest dd in the clubs. Are you registering your ddīs for the childrenīs group site?

Congrats Julie on the 3000th post!!! Don't give anything back!!!! pirate:

What is the deal with tipping CM's in the kids' clubs? :confused3 I had heard they weren't allowed to accept tips, because it wasn't a tipped position. But I can't imagine they earn enough $$$ for the work they do. Are they allowed to accept tips? And how do you do it? Aren't there several CM's working with your kids all week? Who/when/where/how do we tip?
Sorry for all the questions. Inquiring minds want to know.

I have heard of people going to costco/sam's club and buying the bulk international calling cards and giving them out to anyone who can't accept cash. Also they don't get many sweets so a basket would do also.

Sorry for all the questions. Inquiring minds want to know.

What the CM's do in the kids clubs if you give a tip is they put all the money into one pool and then they have a party or something with all the money, or maybe they go to a movie when in port or something. That's what we were told by one of the CM's in the kid's club.

One other thing, we were told that the $10 fee in Palo's does NOT go exclusively to your server. About $8 of it goes to Palo's for the extra food costs and the remainder goes to the server. So we always tip an additional amount above the $10 per person surcharge.

Thanks Tony! Linda said that you would know best for sure.

I am still debating on whether to do a couple of days at Disneyland or not. If we stayed at a Disney Hotel, would you still recomend LAX?

TIA

Thinking about it, yes. They are almost the same distance apart at that point, but it is easier to get to LAX from Disneyland via other transportation methods (Van or Bus). Unless you were already heading to the Inland Empire, I would stick with LAX.

Got my printer on the list to pack! Are we going to be able to get a MouseAdventure on the High Seas III (or IV) out of you and Adrienne?

We're already talking about it. Our friends, Andrew & Jen are joining us, and they are part of the team that helps put the real MouseAdventures on, so we should have a lot of new ideas this time around.

Yes both my DD's loved it! Does yours speak English or Spanish.

Mine speaks Spanish, but has been learning English at school since last year, but so far she can understand if you ask her name, age, colors, numbers, a few animals, geometric figures, family members, knows how to say please and thank you, and kmows how to ask for permission to go potty.

I think that in a year and a half she will understand a lot more.

On the past cruise there was a CM from Argentina at the entrance, so we left dd in the OC, because said CM told us she would be there, and if dd needed anything she should just look for her, but they took the 3-4 group to the room behind the ship slide, and she needed something and couldnīt find the CM from Argentina in the room, and the CM in charge of the little ones wouldnīt let her out of the room so she could look for the Spanish speaking CM. I donīt think dd was crying or anything, I guess that if she had been, someone would have tried to understand her or page us, but the moment when I went to check on her and she saw me, she burst out crying and did not want to be left alone at OC again, so from then on, I would take her for some of the activities.

I am hoping that next cruise she will be lucky enough to have a spanish speaking CM in her group, or at least be better prepared herself to understand English.

I hope that works out for you. I was so lucky to have so much alone time. We had been to WDW for 5 days before the cruise so I did not feel guilty about how much time my DD's spent in there. My youngest spent most of her time at Castaway in the club which I did not want but she did and it was her vacation too. They both just did not want to leave. My oldest had check-out privileges as long as I knew where she was going and only in groups which worked out well. Hopefully you will get better cooperation with the Cm's this time.

Thanks. That helps with budgeting. I don't think we'll be spending much on excursions, but I want to do more in the spa. Our bar bill somehow gets higher than planned. Wine with dinner adds up. Maybe we'll ship some wine to our cabin and take glasses with us to dinner. Is that just too tacky? We don't drink much otherwise, but we are both martini fans. Martini's are usually so strong, though that if I have two, I'll probably need one of our designated walkers. :rotfl:

Taking a glass of wine to dinner may be considered tacky by some, but we have done it, without worrying about what others think! :thumbsup2

On the ship, they will do whatever you ask. Tony (Aphoenix) gave me a great idea on our last cruise together. He brings his dress shirts and doesn't launder them beforehand, and then the first day on the ship he sends them out for cleaning and pressing and then they are good to go. He said the price is reasonable. That way you don't have to worry about wrinkled shirts and spending time in the laundry room on the ship! There is a bag and laundry slip in the closet and you just fill it out and give to room steward and next thing you know they are hanging in your closet.

Yeah - I saved all shirts, and all my dry cleaning (Tuxedo, Jackets, slacks, etc) for on board. Prices are about what I would pay my cleaner at home.

One thing to be warned about on laundry. It is a true Chinese Laundry - they don't understand anything but HOT water. So, if it is important and can shrink, wash it yourself or have it dry cleaned.

a 4 pack of sparkling cider for the girls since that stuff is VERY expensive on the ship (makes the wine look cheap!!)

We had done a family reunion cruise over thanksgiving a couple of years ago on the Wonder. On Thanksgiving night, DW and I ordered 6 bottles of sparkling apple cider for the tables. $150 later - I could have screamed! There actually were wines that were cheaper!

I hope she will be, too! Keep working on those language skills, I guess. My kids didn't want to spend any time in the clubs. DD5 was interested in some of the activities, but the ones we went to were SO crowded. I kid you not, I stopped counting at 60 kids for one and 80 (!!) for the other one. DS liked Ocean Quest and things in the older kids schedule. So, we'll see. We had a fun time, but it would have been nice to carve an hour every day out for grown up time! We're hoping they feel more comfortable after "meeting" the other kids on the little thieves site.

Frozen pipes: The rest of the story......

Well, for inquiring minds, $367 later, my pipes are all unfrozen! Only took about 5 minutes. Cool machine that hooks up to pipes like jumper cables, sends an electrical charge from one end of the pipe to the other which thaws it almost instantly. I have to focus on how cool that is, rather than what it cost! At least that's cheaper than what it would have cost if the pipe had burst.

Over and done with, I don't want to remember the price. Now I will leave my water trickling overnight and when I leave for work while it's that cold. Lesson learned. :scared1:

So now I actually have to head to work, where I'm sure I won't be checking in here, since my work will be sitting there waiting for me to get there. Try not to give me 30 pages to catch up on tonight after DS is in bed! :rotfl2:

$367!!! How many DOD's is that?

When I first saw DOD used, Department of Defense came to mind. :rotfl: DH was a Helo pilot in the Marines for 20 years.

Never heard lounge noise. We did hear some freaky engine noise a couple times, but not at night, so it wasn't a problem. DH was in the Navy for quite a while and he wasn't concerned, so I played along. LOVED the location! We're really hoping to get in that area on either side. (Our families will be easy marks for DIStag!)

This is really unusual February weather. Not complaining, but I'd like to see some RAIN!

Donīt you find it hard to be steady on your feet again on land after the cruise?

DH and I took 3 or 4 days to get back our land legs after a 4 night cruise, this is the only thing that might dissuade us from doing DL after the cruise (oh, and our jobs too, my dad will kill me if I take more days off).

I had that problem and we were only on a 4 day as well. I took Bonine for a few days after the cruise.

The Teacups make me ill without the cruise motion after affects. :rotfl: I don't think we will be going to DL after either.

who is planning on staying a day or two in LA? Any thoughts on where to stay? and how far is the port from DL? or other big sites?

After the 2005 PC cruise, we stayed a couple of nights at the Howard Johnson's across the street from DL. It was surprisingly nice! We used SuperShuttle to get from the port to the hotel. Even though we stopped to drop off several people at private residences along the way, we were still at our hotel before 10:30am! Not sure what we'll do for transportation this time around--we are planning on three nights at the Grand Californian before flying home.

A funny word of warning...after spending 14 nights on the Magic being completely pampered by the incredible cast members, the first day off the ship was a shocking jolt back into reality. When I went to lunch, they expected me to PAY for my sandwhich before I ate it and then I had to throw away my own trash! The worst part was arriving back at the hotel at midnight after spending most of the day at DL. Upon entering the room I was crushed to find that no one had turned down the bed, left chocolates on the pillow, or replaced my wine glasses!!

Liz

Reality, what a kick in the pants. :sad2: It's just not fair. :sad1:

We stayed there for our mini DISmeet with ibouncetoo and TiggersPal. It was a clean room and that's all we needed! You can walk to the front gate of DL, if you want, or they have a shuttle. (Just a note: Pool was a little small for the number of swimmers!)

that would be about 4 or 5 a.m.!!!!!!! The front of the ship was full of people on deck by 5 a.m. People slept out in chairs to get a spot. It was worse than saving the pool chairs. Of course, some lucky people had their own chair brigade the night before and chairs did not seem to be a problem.

Tip recommendations haven't changed as far as I can tell. We used the tip calculator also:

Dining Room Server $3.68 per day ($55.20)
Assistant Server $2.68 per day ($40.20)
Head Server $.93 per day ($13.95)
Stateroom Host/Hostess $3.61 per day ($54.15)

So I would allow $163.50 per person for the 15 nights, plus any extra tipping you do. We always give extra to those who have exceeded our expectations, plus have tipped the Oceaneer's Club and Flounder's when we have had kids/grandkids with us and also CM's who went out of their way to take care of us and for those that use the spa and bar, tips for them also.

We also keep a stack of 1's in the room to tip room service as needed.

We prepaid our tips through DCL when we made our reservations and that is what they charged us. We first did this on the 11 night SC and it made things a lot easier. All we had to do is add a little extra to those envelopes that we wanted.

Carolyn

I'm not complaining either but rain would be good!

Well, I'm glad to hear it's a good spot. We didn't hear much over at 2608 either, just some rolling above the first night and never again. I hope you guys get your request. Odds are when the dust settles you'll have luck getting over there. Cool, thank you! I don't think I'd need to get up that early...DH might, though.

Carolyn

I was up that early, and I have to say, it was a really neat experience. So, I dug out my travel diary, and here are my observations from that morning. (It goes on for several pages, but this will give you an idea about that morning).

This morning started early, and well before bright. I got up at 4 am, and was out the door at 4:20, heading to the very front of Deck 10. There I staked out spots next to Chet & Fern right at the rail, and pulled up a couple of chairs.

It was still very dark out – with only the lights of the harbor visible. As we moved towards the breakwater, the lights got progressively closer, until we realized that many of the lights we were seeing were in fact ships at anchor, awaiting clearance to proceed through the canal. Some will have to wait for up to a few days for permission to pass.

We cleared the breakwater at almost exactly 5am. The pilot boat was there waiting for us, and they quickly brought the pilot on board. Off in the distance, we could see what almost looked like stairs of lights climbing the hillside. That was the canal we were heading for. Red and Green buoys marked the approach channel – almost like a runway. Unfortunately, it took over an hour after I got up there for the cameras to defog enough to let me start taking photos. Someone on the deck knew the frequencies being used, so we were able to listen in to the approach process on the Handheld Transceivers. (We have Ham Radio licenses and brought them along with us)

Adrienne joined me at 5:45 and we settled in to watch the process. We were guided up to the Gatun locks, where we watched as a container ship took the right side lock. The neon arrow directed us to the left, and we pulled up carefully and slowly. The rowboat crews rowed out to help connect the guide ropes between the ship and the mule engines. Amazing that over 90 years later, they are still using two guys in rowboats to get the tow ropes into place.

The Disney Magic was assigned a new identifier for the transit: S8Z. The S signifies that we were a southbound ship. Eight indicates our position in the convoy – southbound are even numbered, so we were the fourth ship to transit that day. Zulu indicates a priority transit; it is generally reserved for passenger ships, US and Panamanian military vessels, etc. On the fore staff flew the DCL flag, while the mainmast added the S8Z flags, a yellow quarantine flag (meaning we were not to be approached or allowed to disembark anyone without clearing customs and immigration), the Bahamian flag, and the courtesy Panamanian flag.

We moved into the first lock under our own power at about 6:30am, the mules providing braking power as needed, as well as keeping us centered in the locks. It was a very tight fit, with only about 12-18 inches separating the ship from the wall. The pilots called out adjustments on the radio, with the mules acknowledging the instructions with lights on top of the engine and with bells.

We were amazed at how fast the actual raising of the ship was. You could visibly watch the ship rise – amazing if you consider the size of the ship. Most of the time was spent in the process of carefully moving us from lock to lock. Centering a ship that weighs so many tons without running into the wall is not an easy task.

It took nearly two hours to transit the three locks at Gatun, but after about two hours, we reached Gatun Lake – Eighty-four feet above sea level. On the lake, we headed to a holding anchorage to the left of the locks, where we parked with three other ships, waiting for clearance to move through the canal.

They move ships through the canal in convoys, to try and manage when and how ships pass through the Culebra/Galliard cut – especially since only one PanaMax ship can be in the cut at a time – they can't pass each other. So, by using convoy system, they can ensure that there are no conflicts between ships heading opposite directions.

Hello again! I posted on the 31st after we booked and have been trying to catch up on the thread ever since:surfweb: I've made it to page 153, but always seem to be about 50 pages behind:rotfl2: . So, I'll introduce myself properly. We are
DH Bob, 47 at sailing
(me) DW Anna, 44 at sailing
DD Emily (8th grade & age 14 at sailing)
DD Sarah (7th grade & 12.5 at sailing)
DD Rebecca (almost 5 at sailing)
Category 6 & 11
Early Dining
Watched the ship go through the canal in 2005 and vowed I would be on it next time!
Celebrating Emily's birthday a few weeks late (4/26) and Rebecca's birthday a few weeks early (6/18).

Our first DCL cruise was the Mexican Riviera in 2005. DH and I are going on the Wonder next month (anniversary trip:love: ). We were scheduled to be on the Magic EB repo this May but had to cancel due to DH's work schedule:sad1: . In fact, we won't really know for sure that we are going to be on this cruise until probably Jan 2008. It is really going ro depend on stellar grades for the kids and DH's work schedule, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will all work out!

Anyway, we are really excited about potentially taking this cruise and you all seem like a really nice group!

You'll love it. We thought it was great. What's interesting is our friends had 2610 and 2612 and those two cabins do not have niches in the walls, therefore they don't have steamer trunks which was a big bummer to them. I got worried about 2112 thinking it would be the same as 2612 but someone said they had that cabin and it did have a steamer trunk. That would be a real bummer on a 15 day cruise!

I have sent my list in already for the first 14 for Brunch on the first sea day. As for the next 14, I am still missing information from liserann and ginamarie. If you guys are still interested, please pm me.

You can sign up for one Brunch and one Dinner each. We have already contacted DCL to reserve the room for each sea day and will fill them with just names at this point. Other than the first sea day brunch, we can work out the logistics of what day everyone wants closer to the sail date.

The way it works is we must send a fax to DCL with the first and last names of the guests and their stateroom numbers. DCL wants to be sure we are reserving for guests that are "booked". Each family will receive they own bill and can tip accordingly.

Anyone else who has not pm'd me before, or wants to add a dinner, please send me a pm with your details.

Actually, now that I've read some more posts and tips about the laundry onboard, I think I'll go with sending it out to be done. I avoid doing laundry on vacations at all cost. (Heck, I avoid doing laundry at home). You should have seen me in Austria asking the owner of our bed-and-breakfast where I could take my laundry. Between the language barrier (yes, I am one of those terrible Americans who travels around Europe not knowing any of the language) and my apparent dread of figuring out a laundrymat in a foreign country, she took complete pity on me. She told me to leave it in the room and the maid would do it. :woohoo: It was cheap, too.

I'm very familiar with Fallbrook! Just spent all last weekend at Fallbrook HS at a swim meet. It was so nice and warm! Sure beat last month's swim meet in Escondido. For that meet it was 27 degrees! The kids were skating on the ice on the pool deck! :cold:

Get out!!! Both my kids are on F.A.S.T.!! We opted out of that meet. Good thing, too, because DS was sick all weekend (still sounds icky, but at least the fever's gone!). (And, we were really glad not to go to the Escondido meet...sounded painfully cold!)

Welcome!!

We're going to Dland in a less than 2 weeks :goodvibes

DS is turning 7 on 2/24 and we always go for the kids bdays....(well not always, okay always for the last 4 years at least)

We are staying at the Grand for 3 nights 2/18, 19 & 20, home on the afternoon of the 21st to have all the parties begin at home....(school, playgroup, family too many)

Any of you So Calers wanna come over and play with us for a day/afternoon or whatever?

We're going up this Friday for DH's birthday. We usually go for either of our birthdays - but don't stay over night. Only 90 miles each way - of course than can take 3 hours on a bad day!

You must be a very positive happy person. I envy you. If I have to do laundry on vacation, then I am on vacation in **** you know where.... Next to ironing, and I would rather lick floors than iron, I cannot think of anything harder to make fun.

Although, maybe you all could make it tolerable...

Well, laundry definetly means vacation to me, otherwise I never do laundry :rotfl2: :lmao:

What I will definetly do is use the pressing service, since definetly I do not iron period.

Wow! I am glad that at least the plumbers got to you before the pipes burst.

My thoughts exactly! I can't even begin to imagine what that would have cost. Well, my insurance deductible is $1000, so that's probably what I would have had to pay. I consider myself lucky!

We used the cruise tip calculator and then ended up adding $5 - $40 more per person to the tip based on the service we got. Stateroom hostess was outstanding and she got all the cash we brought, and some extra on the KTWC. We hope she is working this cruise!!! Love ya Anastasia!!! (she earned every dime and then some with our two sloppy tweens!!!) I also had a budget for drinks (added 20% too since some folks work harder than others) and spa budget which I added 20% too to cover tips. OH and do not forget $2 bills or lots of $1 bills for room service tips!! :thumbsup2

I had Anastasia my last cruise, she was very good. I left her a nice bottle of Chardonney, along with extra $ in the envelope ,she said it was her favourite wine.

Air took care of us. She was wonderful too. She got half a bottle of our homemade wine, which she said really liked and it got her a bit drunk (it's a bit stronger). She also got extra $$. Such nice crew members we have met on the ship.

Julie, in Cove Cafe they have magazines and some books (though I saw more on the Wonder than the Magic). These are usually books people leave behind.

Maybe we should all bring one book we've read and liked and can leave it in Cove Cafe for others to share. So you'd only need to bring one NEW book to read first and then have others to choose from.

What do you think?

I think this is a great idea, I am definetly bringing one that I will leave on board. I think I will bring a book in Spanish, for those looking for something different.

You of course provided the quarters, detergent, downey, etc...but hey, they got more money for smoothies and coffees and we got our laundry done. No, if they were hand washed, we put them on hangers and dried them in the bathroom or out on the balcony. I am sure we will get to balcony decorations a little closer to the cruise. Noel (birkner), Ulittletinker, jhailkis, waltsgirl, lillygator, pjpoohbear, and mrsmork have all been busy bees faxing and working with DCL to make sure our little or big group gets to have at least one dinner and one brunch in the private room at palo. We need a list of names to give DCL on some of these days to make sure we get the room.

Noel, (Birkner) has graciously agreed to keep track of all the names and we will forward on to DCL as soon as we get them. This does not mean you are cast in stone to go, I am sure when we get closer, more people will add and drop out, we just all thought this would be a fun way for us to help out.

So please pm Noel if and let her know if you are a brunch and a dinner, or just one and we will work out the days in 2008.

Thank you, Tony, for this excerpt! Ok, now, I want to get up early, too. Are you bringing your HAM radios on this trip? My DS8 earned his technician's license last year (at 7!!). I doubt he has the right kind of radio (some hand held thing) or license (??) to listen in on the canal...we'll have to check.

Carolyn

We bring our hendhelds. Although, last time, I was threatening to bring one of my big HF rigs, and run an antenna off of our balcony.

You don't need a license to listen - so long as you have the right radio and know the frequencies, that's all you need.

I just passed my Extra license (highest ham class). With them eliminating the Morse Code requirement, I think a lot more people will be exploring the hobby.

I hope you all saw Noels post cause we are totally serious.

Hope you all like this idea!!!!!

Kim

I think it's an awesome idea!!! Thank you very much for doing it!

V- you should plan on at least a couple of days at DL and a couple for some So Cal sights. Would seem a shame to be so close and not take a look. The port is not far, there are shuttles. Stay either at DLH or at one of the hotels across the street(less $, as close or closer walk, but without the "magic")

I am also thinking of staying in LA for a couple of days after the cruise. If I wasn't interested in going to DL where else would you suggest? I'll be solo and without a car, so is it possible to stay at a hotel and take a tour from there? Trying not to spend a fortune but I think it would be a shame to be all the way out in LA and not experience any of it:confused:
Thanks!

My nephews Robert and Erik Sandie didn't graduate until 2000 and 2003 respectively. Rob played in college for Lehigh and is the founder of viddler.com and Erick is still at Colorado State playing football. Both played under Coach Bob Ladouceur.

Get out!!! Both my kids are on F.A.S.T.!! We opted out of that meet. Good thing, too, because DS was sick all weekend (still sounds icky, but at least the fever's gone!). (And, we were really glad not to go to the Escondido meet...sounded painfully cold!)

Welcome!!

Carolyn
Small World! My girls are on RSD! It was a good meet. Both kids got new PR's. Escondido was brutal! The kids were ok since the pool water was warm (too warm actually for the longer events), but it was definitely wicked cold! Will you be going to JO? We weren't planning on it (my kids just aren't that fast), but found out yesterday DD12 is on the JO relay team. Glad DS's fever is gone. Hope the ickies go away soon too. :wizard:

Keep it in mind as we get closer to the summer. I won't have anything to scrap until my med cruise this summer. I will be caught up in taylors book this may at national scrapbook day. :)

Loved the Quite Cove! Great for coffee drinks all day, computers with internet access, (very slow though,) excellent wines and mixed drinks and a big screen TV with headphones for watching CNN, etc. which we unfortunately were watching Hurricane Katrina ravage the gulf coast during our Eastboung Repo.

Bet you wish you could bring her home with you! I'm not fond of laundrey, but I really will avoid ironing at all costs. Can you say loath?

Good morning everyone! I'm very interested in the sleepover before the Panama Canal. Just how many people actually did it? If you got up at 5pm, would you get a good spot? If I spent the night with one son, could I "save a spot" for my family if they got up say at 6am? Or is that a big "no-no"? The thought of all six of us (with the little one!) sleeping out for a night scares me!! (and probably should scare you if you are sleeping next to us!).

Does anyone know how many formal days/semi-formal? I want to start to plan my boys outfits!

V- we start watching it a little later in the season. We don't like how mean they are to some of the obviously "challenged" people during the first tryouts, but really enjoy when they get it down to the final 12 who are usually quite talented.

I have a hard time watching the try-outs, too! My DD really wanted to see it from the beginning this season, so while she watches, I read DIS boards (I wish I only read here for a few hours a week!) She told me last night that she has started hiding her eyes when there is obviously going to be a smack-down. :)

Since I am talking to myself this morning.....:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

My dd11 is just moaning that we didn't get anything down here near Richmond! She loves the snow and loves snowdays even more! We moved here from Vermont three years ago and thought that we really knew how to drive in snow, but we were quickly relieved of that idea when we tried to drive on ice! Cold and snow are one thing, but thaw/ice/thaw/ice/thaw/ice is completely different! Stay safe!

Thank you very much :flower3: to all of you making sites, reservations, fun meets, and summaries happen! All your efforts are really appreciated; even the planning of a vacation is fun because of all of you!:cheer2: :cheer2:

If you have a stateroom with a balcony, would that be good to watch from or is there something special seeing it from the front of the ship?

I think you really want to be out at the top and as close to the front for entering the first locks to get the full effect of everything. After that, it gets hot in the sun and guests started coming and going all day all around the ship. We had a friend who had a balcony on the AFT with the wraparound since it was the handicapped room. She had been emailing with one of the pilots from the PC for a year or so prior to the cruise and he requested to be one that was onboard for the WB crossing. He only had to work during the time in the locks, so we were able to spend time with him on her balcony and learn all about the locks, etc., etc. We had a great day with him. I hope he gets to be on the ship again.

For the rest of the day most people wandered around, when we were on the lake people went to their staterooms, ate breakfast, etc. DCL handed out champagne. Our friends were in their stateroom for the second set of locks and actually threw out Mickey Shampoo and soaps to the workers on the canal and they loved it.

For the last locks, the upper decks were jammed packed again.

Then it was about time to get ready for dinner!

I did do some "live" trip reports while on the first PC cruise. If you are interested, you can find them at:

These reports are from week 2, but you can click the link at the top for week 1 reports.

My DH (Mike) and I have officially lost our minds!! We have decided we can't wait until May 2008 for our next cruise. So we have booked a quick get away on the Wonder (4 days)this weekend!!!!! I am so excited!! We told the kids this morning, there was lots of cheering! One in tears, because she will be alone in group! Her wonderful big sister (13) tried to make it all better by offering to do tons of things with her; movies, swimming, ice cream! Then we sent them off school to share their excitement.:dance3:

DH wants to try and book the May 2007 Med repo cruise while on board. I hope they have a great rebooking deal going on!

If you are on the Feb. 11th sailing on the Wonder, rumor has it that Don "Ducky" Williams did a Valentine litho for this cruise. Don't know if he is going to be on board or not, but if he is and you haven't ever seen him, make sure you go to his seminar and hear his Disney story. It is incredible.

And, of course, if you get a litho or 2 and want someone to take one off your hands, I'd be happy to oblige.

Just wanted to say good morning to everyone! I wish I was in FL, it was 1.9 out this morning when I got up. I think it's time to move south!

Has anyone else started shopping yet?

1.9, it was -4.7 when I let the dogs out this morning and three new inches of snow. It took awhile for winter to set in here but when it did...wow! It hasn't been this cold in years. Come on hubby, time for you to retire too so that we can move south for the winter.

So I called DCL just to check on the status of rooms (we are hoping to move our current connecting to a better location). Anyway, the CM told me that once cat. are at gty they don't change. Is that unique to the repo as I know they changed on one trip we went on? Or do you think she just didn't know?? I hope it isn't true! Lisa

I did this a couple of weeks ago. We went on a quick 3 day. It was WONDERful because there was no planning, just FUN!!

I understand the Med Repo have some awesome deals on board. I think $99 for 3rd and 4th person and pre-paid tips. Joycelyn is the re-booking agent right now. When I was on 2 weeks ago, she booked 8 cruises for me...(mostly for my friends). She is awesome. Tell her Lisa, the church lady, says hi!!

Have fun! I wish I was going with you!!

Sorry you're feeling poorly Kari:( Wrap up warm and hope you feel better soon........just try and think of that lovely cruise!

Noelle, I'm sending you a pm about Palo - hope you get it ok!

Another American Idol fan here, we must get it at the same time as you over here in the UK! We also thought Paula must have been 'on' something the other day!

I think the laundry idea sounds wonderful as we won't be able to bring very much on the plane over from London...and even better is the DOD at the laundry idea!;)

I must start reading up on Panama Canal as I know nothing about it at all.....

Lisa

2 formal nights, two semi-formal nights. http://www.disneyinvitations.com/panama/kilt.gif

I got up on deck at 5am. and had no problem getting a spot. Adrienne joined me at 6am, and I had no problem saving room for her.

It seems as if there are two mornings, or rather, evenings, where people sleep out. I understand the canal thing, since me and DH will be in an inside stateroom and won't be able to see anything, but what was the picture with everybody sleeping outside the store? Don't they give enough pins for everyone? Please enlighten me to both things.

Thanks!

I have now become obsessed with this board and I have a feeling it will be like this even after the cruise when we all share stories!!

Hmm. The great pin debacle. Where to start?

1. Take 2000 rabid Disney fans who all book the very first Panama Canal cruise.
2. Make minimal product, to include only 500 of each pin style.
3. Put no controls on sales or distribution of said pins (or other merchandise)
4. Watch as chaos ensues.

After the first couple of circuses, they decide to release all of the remaining pins at once (they did one pin for every port we were visiting), at 9am one morning.

And so the line started at 10pm the prior night. It started up near Diversions, and ran all the way back to Parrot Cay.

Brisully...

great pics! it really makes me miss the ship...Palo brunch is to die for! they better bring enough food on board for all of us!

the snake pics made me laugh....think deb will do that again? i had that same expression the first time my husband let a baby rat crawl on me at the pet store while trying to convince me to buy one!!

so...every adult gets to make one ressie for brunch and dinner each right?

so where were all of you in the pin line? how many pins did you get and did you get the ones you wanted?

We were in the main atrium - right next to the grand staircase at the entrance to Lumiere's. About 200 people back.

We only wanted one of each to go into the framed set we were doing for the cruise (the lithos, pins, etc).

I've seen Disney screw things up before - it happens. But, this mess was the worst I have encountered, and it was deliberate. Some contacts we have at WDW merchandise told us that they had begged DCL to do a form based order system and warned them that they had under ordered everything. WDW even offered to run the ordering for DCL. But, they didn't want to hear it. And the store manager, rather than recognizing that mistakes had been made and changing her decisions, decided to dig her heels in and refused to budge. :sad2:

We bring our hendhelds. Although, last time, I was threatening to bring one of my big HF rigs, and run an antenna off of our balcony.

You don't need a license to listen - so long as you have the right radio and know the frequencies, that's all you need.

I just passed my Extra license (highest ham class). With them eliminating the Morse Code requirement, I think a lot more people will be exploring the hobby.

Congratulations!!!

I'll tell him. He's funny...very excited that on 2/23 his license will get automatically upgraded to Technician's Plus. No Morse code!

Did you have to get the captain's permission to even listen?

I don't think there will ever be another "Pin Sleepover". After the WB repo, they had forms in everyone's stateroom to turn in if you wanted to purchase pins.

Thanks Goodness because I was thinking how much I'd like to have a pin but...not that much. It seemed like chaos, which is surprising for Disney.
