It is common procedure to search the items and/or bags that they cannot recognize items through the x-ray.
If you have a wad of items they can't recognize, they WILL search the bag and make sure they know what it is.
Darn, I guess the extra AA batteries I carry for DM should go in separate from the xmas lights.

Forgot to mention that I enjoyed the pics! Several teen girls around here will be quite jealous. Jamie is a cutie.
Thanks, she has alot of fun singing and dancing. I guess 10 hours of dance a week will do that to you!!

Presents???? Are there supposed to BE presents? The cruise IS the present.
I am hoping that what xmascruise04 meant, was that the Dolphin Excursion is fully booked. Confirm, please?
Just ran in to grab some lunch, and I'm running back out again.
I can confirm that Linda's Jamie is truly darling....and a really really great kid!!
Great pics, Linda! Those blue eyes of hers are stunning!!
Took Jay's tux pants to my seamstress, god bless her. She said "No problem!"
So, I guess I am almost ready.
Heading back out. See you tonight!

I'm on the phone with DCL right now --- Antiqua Dolphin Excursion is cancelled --- I'm just sick --- that was supposed to be our girls' big Christmas present -- I've been keeping it a secret all this time!!! So if you had it booked you need to call now -- they have a special one on St. Martin you can switch to. The only problem is it leaves at 10:45 am and it doesn't get back until 5:30. Makes it tight for Main dining and I guess no ornament exchange for us.

HINT TO MAKE YOUR LAST NIGHT EASIER
I know, who wants to think about the last night of the cruise already....
but I've done this in the past and it's so easy.
I pack return address labels so I can stick them on the luggage tags they give you for the last night.
That way all I need to fill out that night is our stateroom number and the number of bags we'll have (i.e. 1 of 45, 2 of 45..etc)
HTH.
Note to Self - Pack return address labels. :flower1:

I'm editing the Teen post above to read "unwrapped presents". Kevin just called to inform me that wrapped presents are a no-no for security reasons. Adding to list: paper, tape, scissors. Oh joy.
.
Is that because of the airport? I have taken wrapped Christmas presents on board (packed in a suitcase) for the past two Christmases without any issues.

Good advice, Kevin. Sometimes the biggest problem on these boards is that someone takes something out of context or doesn't understand the manner in which it was meant. The typed word is SOOOOO difficult to understand right now and lacks key elements of communication such as body language and facial language. For example, people probably can't tell from my posts that I'm a much bigger smart alek than I come across as on these forums!! ;) ;) ;)
Most times I have trouble heeding my own advice of "shut your mouth and drop it!" ;) ;) ;)

Hey gang, just arrived this afternoon in Orlando. Am at WDW/Cornado Springs right now and the weather is pretty nice here... but the cold front is on the way with a high tomorrow only in the 50s. Oh well, we have a private party tomorrow night in Epcot and we're gonna get close to freezing here! Yikes! Can't imagine Epcot fireworks with near freezing temps! Things are not crowed at all here! The parking lot is almost empty so come on down there's plenty of room but bring your coats!
Cheers!

One word "human nature." ;)
It's a lot easier to post bad things than find the good in ppl. Do this....Don't go back to the thread and read anything. Let it go. Even if you're curious. Let it go. These ppl don't know you, there was a big miscommunication...if you lay low things will blow over. If you go and post in response to their rudeness, it'll escalate and it could result in your getting banned. You don't want that.

Matt:
I saw your post over on the community board just before I left work today. I didn't open it because I sensed that it was going to get ugly. CB is a kind of unique area. About 3-4 months ago they closed the debate board, and a number of people who used to "debate" are now on the CB. Those people tend to shoot quickly, and then escalate anything that the OP says. There is also a strong tendency not to read anything that gets said in reply.
There were also a couple of teens that posted there for a while that stirred up some controversy, so you may be feeling a bit of that backlash.
Relax, take a deep breath, and remember that in 5 days you'll be on the Magic with a great group of DISers.

Thanks tkd lisa.
I tried to end it all on there and I finally have. I feel it was just blown way out of proportion. Then some of the comments people said even after I said sorry made me feel worse. One in particular was "nobody knows you to like you or dislike you anyways" "we could all tell you were 15 right away" Like you said people dont read the replies and just keep on attacking and going nuts. I wish it didnt have to turn into somthing like it did. First time this has ever happened to me on here. Hope my repuatation is still there, cant wait want until the cruise. Only 3 more days of finals! Talk to you later,

I'll try e-mailing Gus. If I still have his e-mail address.

Guys, not a confession, but I want to ward off thoughts you may have....
This dog has been a KILLER on me. I am beat up....literally. It will look like Mike beats me (and, being a physician, he'd know not to beat me in places that show!) Anyway, my legs are covered with bruises. One about the size of my fist!! It's Maggie! Either that or I have a clotting disorder I didn't know about. She has been in the habit lately of retrieving her balls and hard rubber bumpers and then running at full speed into my legs!! I've learned to wait till the last second then side step to miss her, but she has gotten me good already. Then there is the nipping when she gets ornery. I've got bruises on my legs AND my arms from that! Add to that the scab on my hand where she took a chunk out of me.
So, when you see me, please don't think Mike beats me! It's this %#$@ dog!! By the time 10 days are up, I should be healed up completely!!

And then yesterday during Nick's play KT and I went to the animal shelter they have set up in the mall.....and she confessed she'd be willing to give up Maggie for a beagle. Oh, how they must LOVE their dog!!!

:rotfl::rotfl:....... I mean - what - you've only seen it a gazillion times - right?
A gazillion and 4 times, to be exact. KT really needed to get away from there. She's SOOOOO sick of it. And tomorrow we HAVE to sit through it b/c our homeschool group is attending. Besides, I was backstage at the beginning of it and heard his first major goof up. I needed to get away....
He has two very similar lines....
His VERY first line is: Hello Eeyore, How are you??
One of his last lines is: Hello Eeyore, I see you've built yourself a house.
So...Apparently the actors were sitting around in the back before the second performance started and they were all joking about how they should just go in and do the last scene and be DONE WITH IT! They talked about it for about 5 minutes from what I heard. I heard Nick say (as his first line) Hello, Eeyore, I see you've built yourself a house!
So, they think, that subconsciously, Nick decided to go in and do the end of the show!! They all felt very bad that he goofed up....they figure had they not been talking about it, he'd have done it perfectly as always!
I found out something interesting.....In the final scene, Nick hugs Pooh and the lights go down...then they come back up for the curtain call. Nick told us the other day that while the lights are off (don't worry, it's not bad) Pooh always says to him "great job, Nick." Isn't that sweet??
ALso found out that on one of the scenes, Rabbit is backstage and he holds his hand up so that as soon as Nick comes off stage he can high five him. And then, later, Nick is backstage and holds his hand up so that as soon as Rabbit comes off stage he can high five HIM! :)
I love that they've all taken Nick under their wing like this. :)

Alicia will want to see them, too, next summer.
Sorry, but the manatees are only here during the winter. They migrate to the warm spring water during the winter. The rest of the year they are in the intercoastal, gulf, etc.
To dive with the manatee it needs to be during Jan & Feb. GaRy is lucky in that it has been cold. Hopefully it has been cold enough to force the manatee into the spring. If not, it is just a cold dive.

There is no more soda package.
There is a free soda station at the drink station on deck 9 and at Cookies BBQ on CC.
However, note that soda at bars is NOT free. Make sure the kids know this.

She's a flat coated retriever. Retrievers tend to be a bit high strung anyway (edited to add "as puppies") But also she's still fighting for dominance--remember, she was dominant pup in the litter. Mike has more control over her. She doesn't bite him as much and is much more calm and loving around him. Around me she gets all worked up and crazed. I guess I bring out the worst in her!

Gosh, I want to say I first heard about it around April. I believe our May cruise had free soda, but honestly, I don't remember b/c I don't drink that much of it. Hmmm...
Someone would buy a soda at the bar if say, they were watching a show in one of the lounges (Diversions--deck 3, forward, for example) and they didn't want to schlep all the way up to the free drink station (deck 9, aft)
It'd be purely a convenience thing.

- Nobody's seen the real pirate nite fireworks show yet. The first real run willl be on our cruise. The ones up till now have been trials.
- There will be a stage show one of the nights of the Night Before Christmas. It might be the one they run in the Magic Kingdom during the Verry Merry Christmas nights, but no confirmation on that.
Other than that, nothing but hints.

Whew! Every time I get caught up reading, I have to either get dinner on, pick up a kid......stupid life is getting in the way of my last couple of nights on here (for a while)
Dogs: Molly was 3 when we got Sadie and Scout (Aussies) but Molly had not been dominant. My dog, Wrangler dominated her. Sadie and Scout were totally untrainable. Even with all the land to run.....Scout was very Alpha male, and neither of them would let Molly eat. Then it got to the point where they were biting her, and hurting her. She still has scars. I gave them up when they were just past one and cried my eyes out, they were so beautiful. But they needed to be the only two dogs in the family, and they needed a farm, where they could run free, or maybe even work.
I made some labels for our luggage! Thank you...that was an EXCELLENT tip!
I wasn't going to bring any wine. Not sure if any of the local stuff was any good or not. But today I found a great bottle of a honey liquer that was calling my name. It's already packed in my carry-on!
Darn kids! Now they want to open presents! You'd think it was Christmas or something!
Sing a few carols while we go do this......

I like it a lot better than this quote:
ohiomickey and I are thinking we're out too. Like others, we can't justify the cost. It'd be about $16K for us as we'd be crusing with my parents and we never make them pay for Disney trips.

Oh, I wasn't hard on him at all. His sister on the other hand....
I reminded him of all the times I'd heard bloopers...
like when Pooh was supposed to say "Christopher Robin has a house" but instead said "Christopher Robin has a horse" (at which point KT leaned over to me and said "do you think he'll let me ride it?" Also when Eeyore cut about 6 lines out and left Nick standing there with nothing to say (luckily in rehearsal) Apparently in one of the ones Nick wasn't in, Pooh said "my toes are snowing" instead of something like "it goes on snowing" :) I explained that was the thing about live theater!!
He seemed ok with it. The rest of the cast felt terrible that they had put that thought in his mind!

Hi Jeri.........
I am saddened about the news of the cancellation.
I will call Dolphin Discovery tommorrow.
I am booked on my own and not through Disney.
I am getting a really bad feeling about this.
I'll try not to let it spoil the rest of the vacation, if it is cancelled.
DD does not know about it so she won't be upset.
I'll have to look on the bright side.........maybe I can scuba dive after all.
Time to look for my Naui card and log book.
Kevin are the DISer's diving in Antigua?

Yeah, a wine party in sessions, a group photo in the atrium, an ornament exchange, snorkeling lessons, scrapbooking lessons and freebies, a book exchange, a TAG You're it game, ladies night out, men's night at Ladder 49, a magnetic sign tour, ....
oh...you mean ones that DISNEY will have...
oh...no. haven't heard. I just hope they don't go scheduling anything during times we already have blocked out!!!!
Where is our Travel coordinator when we need her? I think Disney might have to rethink their schedule if they think they might interfere with some of our plans. :cool1:

Oh Leslie, just ask any teen/pre-teen girl on the cruise. Tina's DD Kristen is a big fan, and my DD loves them too. They started as contemporary Christian. They are still strong Christians, but a lot of their music is being played on modern rock type stations now.

DCLcruiser, are you on the 10 day? If so , please introduce yourself. We're an overly friendly group here.
Stacey, I was wondering today when the kid will get old enough to start thinking about the joy of giving. Seems like that kicks in MUCH later, at this age it's "all about me!" Alicia's name was drawn for the raffle at the talent show Saturday. She got to choose between a lovely turquoise and silver pendant (that Mom would have liked) or some rhinestone bangle bracelets that she liked. Guess which one she chose?
I'm sure you'll see the bracelets on the cruise. Hope they aren't made of lead.
Actually, my DS seems to have picked up that notion this year. I sent him spending money for their camp last weekend (DD used her spending money to make up the additional cost of her keyboard). He came home and told me that he bought me a present. I figured that it was a pen or something like that, but no, he pulls out a hardback copy of a Max Lucado box. He said it was on sale, but I know it still cost at least $10 of his $15, and he had also gotten his sister a Young Life pen. Right after they got back, we went to Awanas, and they had their Awana store. They earn "shares" for learning Bible verses, completing sections in their books, wearing special clothes on spirit nights, etc. He had earned 15 shares. He bought a crystal figurine for his sister, and a really pretty wall hanging for his Dad and I. He just had the biggest smile on his face at how happy he made us. I asked him, didn't you get anything for yourself? He said "No Mom. I really wanted to get you guys something." Yes, Mommy cried!

That's one thing I can be thankful for. My kids get JUST as excited to see people open the gifts they bought for them as they do opening their own gifts. In fact, this year Nick had to give KT a gift EXTRA EXTRA early b/c he just could NOT wait. He was ready to bust! (He bought kt some raspberry gourmet sauce at Robert Rothschild's)

I don't want to stir up the pot but I want to give you my experience with security at the airport. When we came home from Thanksgiving, my Dad decided to save money and send a few presents home with us. He had them in a box and he had them wrapped. At check-in they made me open the box, and unwrap the present and even open the box it was in. The lady at check-in also told me that once it went through the screeners they might open it again. And they did, because there was a smaller item in the box I didn't know about that they unwrapped.
These items were packed in a box, so they had to be opened but I think luggage is different. If they are not sure about what they are seeing when they screen it they will check the suitecase. If the item is wrapped they will unwrap it to check it. After this experience I decided not to wrap anything and I am just taking gift bags to make the wrapping easier.
Hope this helps. If you have things wrapped and packed I would say leave them, but maybe have a back-up plan just in case.

Thought those of you who are parents would appreciate these:
PREGNANCY Q & A:
Q: Should I have a baby after 35?
A: No, 35 children are enough.
Q: I'm two months pregnant now. When will my baby move?
A: With any luck, right after he finishes college.
Q: What is the most reliable method to determine a baby's sex?
A: Childbirth.
Q: My wife is five months pregnant and so moody that sometimes she's borderline
irrational.
A: So what's your question?
Q: My childbirth instructor says it's not pain I'll feel during labor, but
pressure. Is she right?
A: Yes, in the same way that a tornado might be called an air current.
Q: When is the best time to get an epidural?
A: Right after you find out you're pregnant.
Q: Is there any reason I have to be in the delivery room while my wife is in labor?
A: Not unless the word "alimony" means anything to you.
Q: Is there anything I should avoid while recovering from childbirth?
A: Yes, pregnancy.
Q: Do I have to have a baby shower?
A: Not if you change the baby's diaper very quickly.
Q: Our baby was born last week. When will my wife begin to feel and act normal
again?
A: When the kids are in college.

I am on hold with DCL to sort out the dolphin excursion. We are not going to do the one from SM as it is 7 hrs vs the Antigua one was 3-4hrs. I can ask about the Dockyard Tour. In the brochure it is part on land and part 45 minute catamaran cruise....
They have space at both the 8:15 departure and the 12:45 departure.

Absolutely! The last time we were there for New Year's Eve, we found a spot just to the left of the American Gardens theatre. It wasn't great for viewing, but we were able to get next to the wall at least. The good viewing spots will be hard to get, people will be staking them out hours in advance. They have an extra ending to Illuminations for the Holidays, and it should still be going on. We've never really had a favorite spot (well, besides the specialty cruise that goes under the bridge), so don't know what to suggest. Hoping Mary & Mark have an idea.
Now I'm wishing I had gotten up early to call for a specialty cruise one of the nights. We have enough people. Maybe I'll call and check on cancellations.

Hi Diana - Gail might have already told you but they are coming in on the 29th and we're getting together at Epcot on the 28th. I think you are doing the first CP and then eating - right? Where are you dining? We're eating first and then doing the 2nd CP so we'll be coming from the American Pavillion. Maybe we can find a place partway between those.

For what it's worth info. I called the excursion's desk after the dolphin adventure was cancelled on Antigua. The Jolly Roger Pirate excursion was not only available, but both times had space.
When we called a month ago the Jolly Roger was completely booked. So either they added more, had cancellations or this excursion sux, I don't know it and me and da wife will be the only ones on it.....

My apologies if this has been posted before. For all those of us feeling a little holiday stress - some humor. How did the angel get to be the topper on the Christmas tree.
When four of Santa's elves got sick, and the trainee elves did not
produce the toys as fast as the regular ones, Santa was beginning to
feel the pressure of being behind schedule.
Then Mrs. Claus told Santa that her Mom was coming to visit. This
stressed Santa even more.
When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were
about to give birth and two had jumped the fence and were out, heaven
knows where. More stress.
Then when he began to load the sleigh one of the boards cracked, and
the toy bag fell to the ground and scattered the toys.
So, frustrated, Santa went into the house for a cup of apple cider and
a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered that the
elves had hidden the liquor, and there was nothing to drink. In his
frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider pot, and it broke into
hundreds of little pieces all over the kitchen floor.
He went to get the broom and found that mice had eaten the straw end
of the broom.
Just then the doorbell rang, and irritable Santa trudged to the door.
He opened the door, and there was a little angel with a great big
Christmas tree.
The angel said, very cheerfully, "Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't it a
lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me
to stick it?"
And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree

Illuminations is at 9:30 according to the WDW site. Maybe we should try and meet over by Canada. We've watched it from the Off Kilter Stage before. The view isn't perfect but you get to see a lot of the show. I'll ask Mark tonight if he has recommendations.
Therese - where will you be that night? It would be great if we could all get together.

Got the kids assignments from school. Not too bad. DD has about 4 pages of math worksheets, and 2 pages of science notes. DS has 2 pages of math worksheets, and 2 sets of homework assignments from his math book. I just copied the pages out of the book, and he'll do half on the way down, half on the way home.
We're off to pick up the rental car. Cheaper to rent a one-way to the airport and one way back than to park for 14 days at National! I might check in later. If not, see you all on Saturday!!!!

Gus (and all the other dolphin swim folks) Sorry that the excursion got canceled. Hope you find a suitable substitute for the surprise. I'm sure the kids will be so pyched anyway about the trip it won't be hard.
Yes we are diving on Antigua. We are going with Big Johns, it's on the site. Tell him your with the DIS group and get your reservation in ASAP. Hopefully there is room left on our boat.
Hi Kevin
Just to let you know the dolphin swim is confirmed cancelled.

The problem is Matt, I really can't. I've reached the limit of my patience. I've been a message forum moderator on another message forum for many many years now and I will tell you, you deserved getting yelled at for that. You want the responsibility of running your own forum, but then you act that irresponsibly? You just don't do that. You want everyone to come over to your forum, why? There is nothing wrong with the one right here.
This isn't the first time that something disruptive has happened. Most of the people in this thread don't venture out much past this thread, but I certainly do. You tried to take over the Cruise List and when it was more than you can handle, dumped it too. Why should now be any different?
You've been given good advice from both Virgil and Kevin and chose to disregard that. You'll probably disregard mine too, But I'll give it anyway. Stop trying so hard. To go and do something just to gain attention doesn't work. I can probably guess what 'disregard' is. It was some kind of statement saying you're leaving, right? You need to rethink some things, people pay attention not to just actions you do, but the particpation you do with the group much much more. Functioning within a group is not to try to one-up everyone else. That more than anything else is what is putting people off.

I am not trying to one up everyone else. I am also not trying to get everyone to leave the boards to come to mine. That is not my purpose. The reason I said disreagard was I actually did rethink what Virgil had said I decided to just forget about it and just hang out on here from now. Thats why I said disregard. I understand in away were your coming from but that was very hurtful.

GaRy, I just sent you a PM about Thursday. Something that will make it easier for you.
Take a look and let me know.
It's so secret that I don't want to post it on the board. Can't trust some of these people with these important details.
All that matters is that I get Mark and Mary's shirts.

Mary that sound great - I will copy and paste this for my binder! I am getting nervous here - only a couple of days and I need more time to pack!!!

I called DCL to see what movies we'll be enjoying while during our stay on the Magic. Was hoping for a primEAR but don't know of any Disney movies that are being released this week or next so I guess we're out of luck on that one.
They are as follows:
Around the World in 80 days
Brother Bear
Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen
Finding Nemo
Ladder 49
Home on the Range
The Incredibles
The Village
Miracle
Mr. 3000
National Treasure
Princess Diaries 2
Pirates of the Carribean :jumping4: :cool1: pirate:
Raising Helen
Out of these we haven't seen 5 so guess dinner and a movie is the call for us at least 1/2 of the time. Hopefully one that I do want to see isn't playing the same night at the dessert bar!!!! Gotta get there EARLY before the "wino's" eat all the good stuff! :earboy2:

Hey, Matt....I've stayed pretty quiet through all of this. I don't read any of the other boards, and hardly ever even go to the thread that I started for my next cruise.....and I want you to know that as a human being, I feel really bad that your feelings have been hurt. We all know what that's like, trust me.
But.....and you may choose to quit reading at this point......one thing that you need to remember is that even though you are very bright, and not at all typical of most teens, you are still a teen. My oldest daughter, who is now almost 24, could enter into any adult conversation at a young age, and converse intelligently. And she did do that sometimes. BUT.....she knew when it was acceptable and when it wasn't.
For the most part, these boards, and even this thread, are for adults. I'm sorry. But some of our conversation is not geared toward young people, no matter how mature or smart they are. There are teen threads, but if you don't feel comfortable there, then you really need to find something else to occupy yourself with. We all want you to have a good time on the cruise, and it will be nice to meet you, but we are all adults here, and it's not that we have been so much "ignoring" your posts, it's just that most of us have kids your age, or close...be it younger or older...and we really don't want to talk to our kids here. We want to talk to the adults that we are going to be doing things with on this cruise. We have shared parenting tips, wine suggestions, all sorts of things that are just beyond your realm. No offense meant at all. It's just a fact.
I'm sorry if I hurt you, that's not the intention.
Hmmm.... a little bit better for Friday.....

Hmmm - wonder what Scuba Jim will be asking Santa for :D
I think you have to have a suitable wine cellar and inventory before that becomes a necessity. If Jim is like us, the wine doesn't have a chance to hang around that long......

Hmmmm..... I wish that I had a wine cellar that needed this..... Definitely pretty cool....

I could use something like that on the cruise, keeping track of the wine.
There's a resort in Pennsylvania that we enjoy going to - it's near Pittsburgh - Nemacolin Woodlands... and they have the type of wine cellar that would need the scanner...... I enjoy walking thought it......but it's way way way out of my league....
