There is a kids thread (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1714640)

Our Website (http://thepiratezone.info)

If you aren't on our mailing list or have questions about our group, feel free to pm me

We also chat ever Friday night. If the DIS chat link above doesn't work, we will be found here (http://thepiratezone.info)

THE PLANS

Some thoughts and plans for the cruise... (summarized on our website (http://thepiratezone.info))

Pre Cruise Events

Official T-Shirts – Details click here (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=23860261#post23860261)
(Task Force Leader esteri)
We are putting together T-Shirts with the thread logo on the front and back, details and prices to be available shortly. The suggestion is to wear black (http://www.graenit.com/images/blkshirtfnt.jpg) for embarkation and white (http://www.graenit.com/images/whtshirtfnt.jpg) through the Panama Canal.

Pirates Wristbands – Mail order in May or June
May be mailed with T-Shirts. Click for more info. (http://www.thepiratezone.us/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=49)

Post card surprise mailing from DL before cruise
(TASK FORCE LEADER NEEDED)
Wouldn’t it be great to have your loving kids, spouse, friend, etc. receive a post card mailed from Disneyland in the weeks before the cruise?

Disneyland DIS meet in the days prior to the cruise
(Task Force Leader DisneyPilots – PM to participate (http://www.disboards.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=34157))
Meet and greet fellow Pirates at Disneyland in the days leading up to the cruise. Have a chance to begin connecting names, faces and DIS id’s before we embark on our journey.

Charter bus/busses to pick up DISers from DL area hotels to take us to the port – PM SmeeCanada if interested (http://www.disboards.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=158237)
(Task Force Leaders - Grandma x3, Bellelinus, smeecanada)
This one is self-explanatory. Why worry about DCL transfers, taxis, limos, etc. We are looking to have a few stops at the Ho-Jo’s and Disneyland hotels to carry interested Pirates to the port. A brief stop at a grocery/liquor store is also being considered.

Mini Pirate Cruise Journals Task Force PM sk8ingmom (http://www.disboards.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=17531)to participate
We are taking a group approach to creating journals for the kids. There will be a double page spread for each day with a few activities (word search, solve a puzzle, find the answer to a question type of thing) related to where we were that day (examples from prior cruises: look for 6-toed cats in Key West, learn a few Spanish words in Costa Maya, etc.). On sea days, there will be some on-board things to do (how many steps is our room from the kids club, go down the Mickey slide at least 5x, how fast is the ship going right now). Creating the pages requires a little bit of kid-level research about each of the ports and and some creatve brain time making up activities. If we have enough interested parents, each person could volunteer to 'research' a port and come up with a few kid-level facts, questions, activities. Sk8ingmom would be happy to create the page layouts and .pdfs for people to download and print pre-cruise. Any takers? More details on Planning Boards (http://www.thepiratezone.us/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=137)

Beer/Wine/Tequila/Martini Tastings (as a group) – e-mail (mailto:mrsscoobie@yahoo.com) to participate
(Task Force Leaders got2travel and MrsScooby)
Have you ever wanted to learn the difference between Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc? Have you wondered whether the rule really is white with fish, red with beef? Does the term “shaken not stirred” mean anything to you other than James Bond ? Are you just as confused as I am.....Barley, Hops, Pilsner, Lager, Stout..... what does it all mean? “Lick, Slam, Suck” - no it's not x-rated but do you know what it means? Come join us for group tastings. We are working on arranging private tastings during our sea days. At this time we do not have specific details, but we are looking for a show of interest. We are requesting Wine, Beer, Tequila, Rum and Martini tastings. No, we will not be tasting all those at the same time. There will be separate sessions planned for each. And for those of you (like me ) who want to attend them all, they will be scheduled at different times. (And hopefully different days!) These will be exactly like the tastings that DCL regularly schedules, but will be limited to those folks in our group. Each tasting will cost $12-15 per person (subject to DCL's current rates).

Dining On Board Plans/Info

Solo Cruisers

For those of us traveling solo or single parents or anyone who has a spouse that doesn't want to do Palo.

Let's link up for dinner one night. I don't know how to make it happen, but if anyone knows, can you tell me please? I'll also ask around. We might have to wait until we get on the ship. I don't think we can get the private dining room for dinner, but depending on interested maybe we can get 2 or 3 tables of 4??

Anyone interested please PM got2travel (http://www.disboards.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=74963)and she'll keep a list

WANT TO DINE WITH THE CAPT or the CREW?

Want to join other pirates for dinner? We are spearheading linking together a large group for Capt’s dining (Early) and for Crew dining (Late). I’m pretty sure we have enough people at Capt’s dining to even fill a whole dining room!!!How cool would that be.

Anyway, in order to accomplish all this….We need your help and some info.

First the easy part: (Your Info)

Note that this info stays with ONLY your PIRATE Dining Coordinator/Wench and ONLY gets shared with DCL Dining Reservations staff when we make our request.

I have volunteered to co-ordinate Capt’s Dining. If you are in capt’s dining, please send your info in an e-mail to me at goofyforlife @ yahoo.com

Cheryl has graciously volunteered to co-ordinate Crew Dining. If you are in crew dining, please send your info in an e-mail to her at micmsecheryl @ yahoo.com

If you are on a dining rotation and are on a wait list. Please let us know….. On previous cruises we were able to get people changed since they were with our group.
Send your info to the rotation you are currently on but let us Dining Wenches know where you are waitlisted to.

Please note that we will try our best to arrange pirates accordingly but be aware that the tables do rotate around the room each night. (ie you will always be near others in your dining station (ie same wait staff) but the next station over may differ from restaurant to restaurant) BUT WHO CARES WE’RE ALL A SCURVY BUNCH!!!!!

Please include the following info in your email:
Subject line : TOAL CAPT’S DINING REQUEST or TOAL CREW DINING REQUEST

DIS ID:
PARTY SIZE:
CABIN #: (if you are currently gty give us your ressie # and then let us know room # as soon as it is assigned.)
KIDS AGES:
Special Requests:
Want one large table or will two smaller tables work or maybe you want to dine alone.
Find people with kids the same age or are you looking for adults only conversations?
Waitlisted? For which sitting?

NOTE: If you have are co-ordinating for multiple cabins we need both cabin #’s (again only for DCL Dining). Also note that I do not believe we will be able to make requests for specific waitstaff or rotations.

DCL has not decided as of yet whether they will have one sitting for each time or the 3 sitting like currently on the Magic. We as a group will be asking for either 6pm for Capt’s Dining or 8pm for Crew Dining.

PS: WE CAN EVEN TAKE REQUESTS FOR CRASH'S GROUP OF 30 (you guys can have your own wait station.

Question:
What is the EARLIEST you would book a flight out from MCO after the cruise.
Let me know!
Last time we booked a room that evening and got a day room at the Hyatt at the airport- but we ended up getting there to the room like 9am-ish. We don't need to spend a day there this time.... do you think a flight at 12:24pm would be pushing it at all or any risk of not making it? I mean we are arriving back on Monday instead of a Sat- will that make any difference good or bad as far as traffic/etc?

I agree we always seem to be behind over here, bar DCL Tickets they came faster than the USA via UPS the last few times.

I am always entertaining myself over Labor Day Weekend. That is when my mom passed away in 2002 from a reoccurance of breast cancer (after 9 years) that metastasized. Hence this vacation. I usually do these vacations with my father, but he met someone in November 2006. I was initally happy for him, then I met her. She is the total opposite of my mother - which I can understand, but she is mean and very rude to me. I feel like she finds me as a threat. Sadly, he married her in October 2007 to my dismay and we hardly talk now. I try but being 3000 miles away makes it harder. :sad1: Glad to hear everyone else has had better luck with their parents new partners.

I actually just got a bunch of videos convereted to DVDs and watched them last weekend. It had my parents last cross country trip to CA - Easter 2002 and our last Christmas together in 2001 when I bought them annual passes to WDW. I am getting teary eyed just typing this, but wonderful memories I am very thankful to have. I have been seeing someone now for a year to deal with my mom's passing (2002), my boyfriend of 10 years leaving me (2003) and my dad's new wife (2007). Very much looking forward to this vacation!

All the stories about what kids are doing these days scares me - and I don't have any. I can tell you that I was very naive growing up. I got my sex education through HS Band. My parents never talked to me about anything. They just instilled the fear of GOD into me about everything. I only rebelled my sophmore year in HS when I picked up smoking for about a year. As for sex - the line they used on me was only the "good girls" get caught. I will never forget approaching my mom right before my Sophmore year in college about going on Birth Control as I just started my first (and last) serious relationship. I was so nervous - she just said don't tell your father. LOL As for the drinking, I was always allowed to drink so I never really needed to rebell. Dad use to give me sips of his highballs (usually 7&7) back when I was 6 (I liked those) then he switched to beer (gag me) and a glass wine at the holidays (ack I look back now and think what were they thinking drinking that jug wine), then there was the teething and braces phase where I use to get a variety of hard alcohol rubbed on my gums. Ah the memories. Best to all of you raising kids I don't know if I could do it!

Thanks for letting me ramble.

I have to start packing everything up to get out of our room now - I had a late check out good til 2 - but I wanted to offer some thoughts. When my mom passed away my Dad remarried... and I used to think it was too soon - and I was resentful and just in a huff over the whole thing. It took me YEARS before I would soften up to matters - and I think - simiply put that time may heal things... time and patience. Also, there was a time when Alicia and I broke up after several years together. It was really complicated and felt pretty bad - like you're being ground into hamburger insde - but it settled into a calmness and then we got back together again. Now - not to say you're gonna get back together with your Ex... but things do reach a calm state... I know. SO be patient and give it a chance. You may very well achieve that "state" before the cruise. If not we'll get ya silly drunk on rum when embarked and you'll not remember a THING after that!

Seriously, on the birth control thing... I remember when Alicia and I were going out - and one morning I picked up the phone as it awoke me from my slumber... the voice on the other side asked: "hello, may I speak to Alicia?"... and I grumbled and rolled over to say - "here... it's for you". And Alicia immediately got into a hushed conversation... it was her sister asking who answered the phone! Well... we were "busted" and dmonished NOT to let her mom and dad know. And the rest is history. For years I think her mom and dad were sure I was the worst guy to walk the planet - and still they had not met me yet! It seems Alciia came to Califronia to get as far away from Mom and Dad as possible at on point in her life... and, lucky for me, crossed paths with me a couple times.

SO - the "don't tell your Dad" thing leaves me with mixed memories... fond memories of that early morning phone call from Alicia's sister and fear and loathing of the predatory scrutiny I'll give to the future boys who might call at our doorstep one day. Now where is my shotgun again... I think it needs more polishing about now.... <wink>

OK... time for me to go - as we gotta get outta da room pronto now. :scared1:

I will not be at DL but I will be at WDW in June if there is anything I can do on this one someone let me know.

Coral

When are you going in June? I will be down there too....

1) What is your favorite flavor of ICE CREAM or substitute favorite DESSERT
Cake Batter from coldstone or Party Cake from turkey hill (mmmcake!)

2) If you could have any car as your own "FREE" to use for a year - what would it be?
I actually really like my malibu..so maybe the new one?

3) If you could visit any one place on the planet for 7 days - what destination would you choose. All expenses paid however, you cannot take any physical souveneers back with you.
too tough..I want to go everywhere!

4-5-6) If you had Aladdin's lamp and 3 wishes... what would be your 3 wishes? The same limitations apply as in the Disney version - you can't raise the dead, you can't make someone love you, and you can't wish for more wishes.
1) good health for family and friends
2) a job that would be enjoyable yet let me live comfortably (and still travel too!)
3) A happy marriage with heaping scoops of love, laughter and strength sprinkled with a kid or 2!

7) Tell us something about yourself that you've never posted here before.

I even got a pair for winter- they have the fluffy sheep looking stuff inside that you can take out and wash. I have them on right now. I care not about fashion statements apparently. :lmao: I'm all about comfort! I do like my flipflop (what we used to call thongs...) crocs the best though. It's just a bit too cold to wear them again yet.. soon though!

Stace, I have a degenerative disc problem and walking was extremely painful. I bought a pair of Crocs and was astounded at how I could walk and not have the pain I experienced in my reg walking sneaks. They did take some getting used to how ugly they are but I don't have the sweating problem either.

Contacted my TA. She has only just received the kits for Aug 10 cruise! For those that have already received their's - can you spill the beans on what is (or is not) in it.

Just taken delivery of a wheeled soft sided cooler for the cruise. They are hard to come by in the UK so was rather much more than the $20 or so I've seen some of you getting them for!

Currently working on my FE & it's taking rather much longer than anticipated - thank goodness I started early!

I too, LOVE my crocs! I have incredibly flat feet (actually my chiropractor used to say I had the flattest he had ever seen, until DH started seeing him! :rotfl2: - poor DS doesn't have a chance at decent feet) and for years wore only athletic shoes with custom made orthotic inserts. I would occasionally get to wear a sandal or dressy shoe for a special event, but could only wear them for a few hours before my feet started hurting (soon followed by knees, hips, back, etc.) I first read about crocs here on the DIS when they first came out - they weren't readily available yet, but I bought a pair to give them a try. They may be ugly, but at least they don't look like a gym shoe! They have been wonderful for me - my feet do not sweat in them and the support is fantastic. I still wear my orthotics a few days a week, but the other days I get to wear different colors of crocs. I even have a couple pairs of Mickey crocs. When you have worn gym shoes every day for over 15 years, it is amazing how exciting it is to see actual colors on your feet! I have a couple pair of croc sandals that I can wear for several hours without too much trouble - so those are a nice change when we are going out. I still occasionally wear a non-croc dressy shoe for special events, and am still limited to a couple of hours - I usually take a pair of croc sandals with me to change to if needed!

They may be ugly, but I couldn't imagine living without them! I will definitely have crocs with me on the TOAL. :thumbsup2

As far as Crocs go, my wife swears by them, so I got a pair. They were OK to start, but I ended up with a blister on my toe and the back of my heel. So now I just stick to my sneakers for the parks.

What I received is the same as what pictures were shown by Arlene... we just received ours yesterday. No biggie really.

I can't wear heels anymore since the surgery, but I can wear a wedge. Wedges to me were always more comfortable anyway.
ditto! I can't do heels but I can do wedgies!

Back on the subject of crocs- my husband also has issues with needing major arch in his tennis shoes and uncomfortable in shoes without the arch- he did not like the looks of crocs but I bought him a pair for our last (and only so far) cruise and now he's hooked. He puts them on for everyday home/taking kids to park/etc. use than he puts on any other shoes including tennis shoes. ;) He says they are very comfortable!
Personally as I said- I prefer the flipflop type and I've ALWAYS been one that couldn't wear flipflops because the part that goes between the toes HURT me. but with the crocs- doesn't hurt... it's all soft. :)
I like the wedges but I'll have to try on a pair before I buy them- because no matter how heavy *I* get my feet are always skinny skinny and narrow I can't wear wedges if my foot falls thru it and toes hang off the end. So I'll have to make sure it's narrow enough to hold my feet up in there. I hope so!

I hate shoes because none are comfortable but... I have to have a black dress show for the cruise. I tried on a pair of Softt black wedges that I was astounded how comfortable they were. I truly feel like I could wear them for hours. Here is the link:
http://www.thewalkingcompany.com/Common/Product.aspx?ProductID=5412&pagetag=Women_Dress_Sandals&source=search&criteria=All&text=sofft&oldpagetag=All

I am not 100% in love with them but I think they meet all of my criteria for comfort and not too ugly.

Thanks for the link. They look very comfy.. I have BIG issues with shoes and not being able to find any that fit and are comfy and don't make my feet hurt and sore and the heels fall out.. ( I have very weird feet).. so this may work.. are they availalbe in a store or do you have to interenet them???

Crocs just introduced a bunch of new styles. Take a look at www.crocs.com - I think "Adara" looks nice. I have a pair of "Cleo" from last summer and people don't even realize I'm wearing crocs - I've had folks ask "where are your crocs?" when I am wearing them!

I'll have to go in my closet and look (and sometimes I go in there and don't come out for DAYS;) ) but I think that's the brand of shoe that I'm wearing for Megan's wedding. Mine are a wedge, and soooooo comfortable. Probably not as pretty as a lot of shoes I own, but they work for me at this point.
I'm so sad about my foot and leg and how this has not gone the way I'd hoped, because I LOVE shoes. I have at least 65 pair....and now only wear just a few.

I will never ever be able to *catch up* but, I am going to try to read at least some of the posts tomorrow -- gotta head to bed now! LOL! I'm only still up because I was waiting for 17dd to get home from Youth2000.

I have missed the Dis but, things have been crazy here! We LOVE our new home! But, I still have tons of *cr*p* at the old one -- 17yrs and I thought we would never move....5 kids......2700sq ft......an attic and a 2 car garage full.......

We've had a few b-days -- Youngest ds is now 10 (Elvis), Middle dd is now 17 (as of this past Thursday) and oldest ds is now...28! :rotfl: :rotfl: The other girls have summer b-days like their mom and dad. ;)

Dh was gone for a couple of weeks in February (England) and he is going back in another couple of weeks -- his secretary/office manager told him he can't go until they finish up all the loose ends from the Company's move (they moved, this weekend, their Admin. offices, factory & warehouse into an almost 200,000sq ft building that dh has been working on for the past year!).

With dh tied up with England and the office move it has made my life *different*. I am so used to calling him and him taking off early to help get kids here, there and yonder! LOL! I don't want to do everything! LOL!

I hope y'all are all having a great weekend!

Did I already know before I left the boards that we were able to get our Cat 3? I don't even care if we get a better room! I like the Cat 3 (dh can't sleep in a Cat 1 -- too creaky for him!) and dh just wants 2 bathrooms! LOL!

Great Croc Debate:

I have awful feet. I can't wear tennis shoes/sneakers/cross trainers because my feet are so flat. I wear them to work out for an hour, that's it. I'm a flip-flop, clogs kinda girl. I have a pair of Crocs. One pair. I wear them to the rink, if I run to the grocery store & around the house. They are sooo comfortable, but I can't bring myself to wear them in public. I will only wear them with pants. I have skinny legs and very narrow feet, so I have this huge Minnie Mouse thing going on if I wear them with shorts. Mine won't be on TOAL. I love flip flops.

HOW does a skater end up with "skinny legs"?????? (Is it too late to try whatever your secret is? I'm 43!)

Crocs just introduced a bunch of new styles. Take a look at www.crocs.com - I think "Adara" looks nice. I have a pair of "Cleo" from last summer and people don't even realize I'm wearing crocs - I've had folks ask "where are your crocs?" when I am wearing them!

Pamela
You're right, lots of different styles:thumbsup2 I haven't looked at everything, but the Santa Cruz look cute.

Coral, I like those as well. I do have a pair of black dress sandals that are similar, but it may be time to replace them;)

I didn't realize I would start a world wide debate by posting a birthday greeting to a friend! :lmao: I just thought it was a funny picture.

:lmao: Troublemaker;) ;)
BTW The pic was hysterical:thumbsup2

We spent yesterday at the Cherry Blossom Festival with about 400,000 other people. It was insanely crowded. We ended up walking about 15 extra blocks because some of the Metro stations were so packed that they stopped letting people in. Fun...

These are beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

Dang. That is closer to when I really wanted to go but MiL has other plans for Megan. We know it will be hot and crowded and we have been so many times before we are not going to push ourselves too much.

This is just a quick mini trip with just my parents and I. Though a nice thing to do...spend some quality time with them before Brendan and I get married. I know my mom won't go anywhere after 7pm...my dad will prob stay with her....I guess I will do the MK on my own! Single rider line here I come!

I found them at my local The Walking Company store. I truly was surprised how comfortable they were. I think it was the combination of the wedge heel and the padding. They also had rubber soles which I require in a cruise ship shoe. ;) My Brightons almost had me overboard once.
I have also seen a very selection at shoes.com. Price was about the same.
Also, they seem to reun pretty true to size too.

I used to use the pitchers then the filters on the faucets.. until we got the fridge with water in the door that uses a filter. :)
(we were avoiding the water/ice in the fridge door until the kids got old enough that we wouldn't have a water/ice mess by the fridge all the times. Which means we only got it about a year ago LOL)

I knew what you meant. Wouldn't you still want to put it into water bottles or some such? You could easily fill a mug or water bottle at the drink station for free. That's what we do. We each take a bottle and keep refilling it. And a couple of extras to keep cool in the mini fridge.

Best Buy has the two new Olympus cameras the 850 and 1030 featured.
The 850 is $299 and the 1030 is $399.
Interestingly, the 790 is $269 at Best Buy. Not much of a clearance.....For $30 you get choice of colors and 8 megapixel instead of 7.1

DH doesn't care what he drinks. He even like the water here in Fl. I on the other hand can't drink it if I taste it. I only drink the water from the fridge. We had numerous filtrations before we got the mega fridge. I was just thiking what a pain in the add it is to shlep so many bottles onboard and was wondering if the brita/pur would be smarter and less hassle/ Other then filing them.

I'm like you, if I can taste it, I don't want it. Not that I have anything against water, but most water doesn't taste good to me.

Never thought about taking a Brita on board. Seems as if it would be pretty easy to handle. I used to have a Brita sports bottle that had a little filter in the lid. That was very convenient, it was just the right size to carry around with me. But they don't make those filters anymore. Someone said Culligan makes something similar. I haven't been able to find it though.

I saw from the previous posts the tux hire has gone up, in 2005 it was the same price as a 7 night cruise.

I am glad you like the BBC network, over here its our premier television service, no adverts is the best thing on all of their UK Channels, and the news service is second to none.

I think the BBC uses other UK TV netwroks programmes on your USA service, as Ramsey's kitchen nightmares is a Channel 4 programme I think.

I know Doctor Who and Torchwood are coming over for the Sci Fi buffs, and you already have stuff like Strictly come dancing (Dancing with the stars) over there, and Cat Deely (Non returnable), and Simon Cowell.

Have you been brave enough to officially cancel her reservation yet?

I got an email from Megan's Music teacher (5th grade). She said in front of the entire class Megan pointed at her and did the "crazy" symbol. :confused3 I still contend her problem is maturity, or the lack thereof. The teacher said she was completely shocked as Megan had not said a peep in her class for 6 years now. Megan is going through a tough time these days. Her best friend for years does not want to be her friend anymore and she is just lost. Tough one for sure.

Hey everyone, just checking in. We had a great time at Busch Gardens on Friday - gorgeous weather. Probably around 7pm the kids had enough and said lets go home - it was super crowded towards the afternoon - kids could not stand waiting in line for over an hour for some rides.

After being almost 80 on friday, saturday it never got above 50 - YIKES! Today its a little warmer but not much and sort of overcast so no sunshine to warm it up. Back to school tomorrow for us, spring break is over. I have to face my classroom for 11 more weeks and we are finished for the summer - YAHOO - light at the end of the tunnel. Just have to tell my principal that I will miss teacher work week since I will be on the TOAL:scared1: .

Had to call Delta and change our CA flights today - free of charge.:goodvibes They have changed the times on our flights at least 3 times since we made the original ressie in Feb. Last time we had to call and change our flight home, they had us arriving over 1 hour later than we originally planned. This time, they only gave us a 15 minute layover in Atlanta - that is too risky for me. They happily changed us around so now we leave 8/13 from Richmond at 2:55pm and arrive Atlanta 4:41pm Then leave Atlanta at 5:35 and arrive LAX at 7:14pm. Now I just hope they don't change them on us again but somehow I know they will. Anyone else on Delta flights 833 (richmond) or 117 (atlanta)?
Maybe once we get closer to August we can all list our flight info and have little mini meets on our flights - YIPPEE! Obviously we will have to do this much closer to August!

Everyone have a great week!!!

eldest DD is really pushing it too but I'm LOATHE to not take her for a couple of reasons- most importantly it might be our last big vacation before she's grown but also because I don't really have anyone to care for her while we're gone. School will be starting- but my sis lives in another town and has to take her kids to school- she's not going to drive her to school 30min each way morning and afternoon... my mom lives here in town but she's quadraplegic and the only public transportation we have is a van which is iffy on whether or not you can get transportation on it- you have to call each morning and it's first come first serve as they get the calls. So it's not like she could go to school while we're gone- she'd still miss it. (mom lives on the outskirts of town- way too far and too dangerous for my daughter to walk/ride bike to school which I coulidn't trust her to do anyway)

but I tell you.. I may change my mind if things don't straighten up pretty quickly!

We'll probably lug one case of bottled water on with us, then refill on the ship.
I bought a bunch of instant Gatorade packets. This way, I figure it will mask any taste in the onboard water.

Looks like Doc is bringing back your earlier thread in pieces. Happy planning!

Good news. I know there were a few things that we wanted to go back and look at.

On the Wonder 08/17/2008 Thread?

Andrew, I think she said she was going to WDW:confused3 Not sure for how long, she likes long trips though;)

If I remember correctly, it was very common for middle schoolers to make fun of teachers behind their backs. I remember a few nicknames that circulated when I was in school:rolleyes1 . Sounds like an attempt to impress her peers:confused3 She probably doesn't have enough practice to time it so she doesn't get caught:confused3
Andrew's best friend for years appears to be moving on as well:sad2: He acts like he doesn't care, but it has to hurt:confused3 Trying to encourage some new friendships, but don't want to push anything either:guilty:

We'll probably lug one case of bottled water on with us, then refill on the ship.
I bought a bunch of instant Gatorade packets. This way, I figure it will mask any taste in the onboard water.

I've seen several posts that the water at the drink station is filtered and tastes pretty good. There are lots of different types of powder drink mix packets (crystal lite, etc), so we will probably do the same thing, just in case:thumbsup2

That will be great for Linda and the kids. My problem is that I don't like the taste (or non-taste) of plain water. I need something with flavor. I don't want to drink a ton of diet soda, and I know there's a ton of sugar in Gatorade. Guess I'll stick to alcohol. There's no calories in that, right? :confused3

For those who missed it on the Part Four thread:

Stace - I have these in black and white - they are truly comfortable. I like this color better though. I got mine from Robert Wayne Footwear. Where did you find those?

Todd please see Thread #4 for birthday greetings

:scared1:

NO! SAY IT TISN'T SO! HORROR! :scared1:  I missed our CPT's birthday? Please forgive me CPT! :worship: :worship: Seems I was a bit grumpy and the family decided that I needed some adult play time. I was whisked away to your part of the country late late Friday night and as I sit here typing - am flying through the Mojave Desert just passing Lenwood Road. We left the Orleans at 10:30 and hit Barstow about 12:30. Navigation says we should be home around 2:15 so I will be backtracking. LORDY! Some not-so-smart-add just flew by us going 100+ mph. Rocked us pretty good and its crowded for this time of nite.

Anyway, just had to post to subscribe. SHould be ok now. Now back to page 3

We have arrived home from Hawaii and had a wonderful time. We did our best to only say "Disney wouldn't do that" about a dozen times a day while onboard NCL's Pride of Aloha. It sure was no luxury ship but it suited our purposes fine and honestly it wasn't that bad... it just wasn't Disney :rotfl2: The islands themselves are beautiful and for anyone that is considering going to Hawaii, do go, you won't be disappointed. I'm sure we will be going back sooner rather than later - DVC resort can't open soon enough there IMO

I also see there are a few new faces so welcome to our DIScussion :thumbsup2

I'm sure I've missed heaps but I'm hoping to be around a little more regularly now.

Oh and I've enjoyed seeing people's comments about Crocs, I've been dithering over getting a pair but wasn't sure how I'd go with normally wearing orthotics too but it looks like its not a problem. I liked the shiny silver "formal" ones :lovestruc

I would, over the kiss(es):cool1:

Now Now Andrew- your doing so well, first Mickey Bars, now kisses - what next? :rotfl:

250 pages, 3750 posts they are closed, long threads were said to slow the Disboards down. Personally I thought it was Crash, but he says he is Mr Innocent.

AH! I see I am not the only one NOT fooled! :lmao:

I hope so!

OK - first - can you see this in your avator? NEWSFLASH: BIP CAN DO WEDGIES! ???????

:rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Next, DH lasted about 1 year before he caved in - then for Xmas he asked for a replacement pair and got 3 and one was those new type with an insert. I got them too but the inserts makes my feet sweat. I'll just wear my socks mor comfortable and they don't stink. Best part about crocs? You can wear them to the parks and get them wet. No more stinking leather tennis shoes! YEAH!

And as for skinny feet - I once saw a lady with toe overhang!!:scared1:

It was kinda gross - here she is all dressed up and looking nice and then you look down and her toes are literally hanging over the edge of the wedge and clawing to hold on. :faint: NOT A PRETTY SIGHT I TELL YOU! :scared1:

:wave2: Paula - can I be the first to :welcome: you back. Glad to hear Hawaii was all that. Believe it or not that is one place I have NOT been too - didn't have any desire to go there until I found out Disney would be there in the near future. So guess where I have to fit in Hawaii sometime????

Anyway, I was gone for a few days and missed a lot from what I am starting to gather. Must of been a slow weekend. Either that or chat was a blast.

Anyway, hope Middle Earth warms up for you and do try the Crocs wedges - they are nice an don't look all that bad. But I still have a hard time with the price. Run about $40-$60 down here.

OK - just passing Hesperia and hitting Cajon Pass in about 5 miles. Some darn idiot flies by us doing 90 mph and then slows down in front of us to 55 mph. NOT-SMART, NOT-SMART, NOT SMART!!!

Regarding cruise guide book, I was looking out my window and a UPS van came down our road, its no through and we do not see them often, so I thought great its here, my stuff always comes UPS from DCL, rather than Royal mail.

It drove around at the bottom and went away again, no booklet, :scared:

I was referring to using the brita/pur on the ship instead of slepping all that water and wondered if anyone had done it that way?

I just bought a Pur water pitcher yesterday at Walmarts. It has the flavor thing too. I have had a Pur water filter on my faucet for years, becasue the city over chlorinates the water. I've gone thrugh 2 and now the one I have is dripping again, so I thought I'd switch to a pitcher. This one is hard plastic, so i wonder about it getting cracked in baggage or such

Yes, going by the booklets for the MED in 2007, they show little that isn't on the website already, its just nice to have a symbol the cruise is getting closer, Interesting on the Tux hire price, I haven't booked anything due to my size changing on the diet, and of course if DCL do not know you are a Castaway member, that prompts you into action.

Lots of time to loose weight, not sure about myself currently as I am off today and Tuesday, so no weigh in. Just been for a long walk with the kids and tomorrow is Doctor Who day! In London.

My brother called me to see if I had a Michael Jackson nose or not and mentioned how hard it was going to be for Megan to miss the 1st week of Middle School. I hate to be reminded since I feel so guilty. Even I admit I am not 100% convinced she will not suffer missing the 1st week. We are going to spend a lot of time at the school trying to get acclimated but she is not the most flexible kid so I know she will suffer at least some by the TOAL, we are just trying to minimize the impact.

Cartagena info.

Below is an article from this week's Sunday Times travel section which I've typed up for your delight!

Visiting film locations can be disappointing. Once the set designers and prop masters have left town, and the CGI wizards have worked their magic, there is often little correlation between the place on screen & the real thing.

Cartagena is a glorious exception. A former Spanish port on the Caribbean coast of Colombia, it is both the setting and stage for Love in the Time of Cholera, a classic novel by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and now a movie by the British director Mike Newell.

The story tells how love struck young clerk Florentino Ariza, played by Oscar-winner Javier Bardem, waits 50years for the hand of his childhood sweetheart, Fermina Daza. Set around the turn of the 20th century, Garcia Marquez’s tale of magical realism is infused with the sultry, torpid atmosphere of Cartagena, where he worked as a young reporter.

Because of fears surrounding Colombia’s recent violent past, the studio had planned to use Brazil for the location work – until Newell visited Cartagena and fell in love with it. So exquisitely preserved is the fortified old town, with its 18th century colonial mansions and perfumed courtyards, that little work was required to age it by more than 100years. Although the resulting movie has received mixed reviews, Cartagena itself easily takes the full five stars.

In the old town, horse-drawn buggies rattle along narrow cobbled streets and bougainvillea spills from carved wooden balconies. In the Parque de Bolivar, shoeshine boys shelter from the punishing midday sun beneath the shade of tall palm trees and rubber trees. Across the street, under the arches of the Plaza de la Proclamacion – where the market scenes were filmed – women in billowing skirts balance bowls of watermelon on their heads.

Wrapped around the old town are battlements, built by 8000 African slaves to protect their colonial masters from pirates. For more than 200 years, Cartagena grew rich on plundered treasure. Gold and emeralds stolen from indigenous South Americans were stashed in warehouses, loaded onto fleets of galleons and sailed back to Spain. Some ships fell to pirates – among them Sir John Hawkins and Sir Francis Drake. One vessel, the San Jose, was said to have been sunk by the Spanish just outside Cartagena lest its hoard fall into British hands. The wreck has never been recovered.

Today, the best introduction to Cartagena is to walk the ramparts, gazing across terracotta rooftops at ornate church towers and voluptuous cupolas. In the late afternoon, as a welcome breeze blows off the Caribbean, students from the nearby university stroll arm in arm, and lovers curl up in the embrasures.

In the people of Cartagena it’s easy to see the influences of Africa, Europe and South America, mixed and melded over the centuries. Charming and friendly, they move with a languid grace and exude an effortless sensuality, the men handsome, the women flirtatious.

Nor do you need to look hard to find characters who could have been lifted from the pages of a Garcia Marquez novel. My guide, Andres, who worked last year on the production of the movie, introduced himself with a soft handshake: “I am 59 years old and have lived everyday of my life in the city”.

In the atmospheric church of San Pedro Claver, where Fermina’s wedding to Dr Jevenal Urbino was filmed, he pointed out an elderly man with silver hair and small round spectacles who knelt and prayed silently in the back pew. “Every time I come, he is there, always in the same place. Don’t ask me why”, Andres whispered.

Pedro Claver, a Spanish priest, devoted his life to improving the lot of the city’s slaves and is revered in Cartagena. He was canonised in the 19th century, and his bones lie in a glass-sided coffin beneath the church’s altar, his skull resting on a pillow. Next door, beneath the crumbling porticoes of a former convent, is the sell where he lived and died.

Across town, another convent has been cleverly transformed in to Cartagena’s finest hotel. Retaining much of the original structure, including a splendidly overgrown courtyard, the Sofitel Santa Clara has incorporated a sumptuous pool and spa. Drop by for a cocktail and sneak to the fifth floor terrace to gaze into the garden of the neighbouring house, owned by Garcia Marquez.

It’s possible than within a few years Cartagena will lose some of its magic. Spiralling property prices may force local people out of the old town and strip it of its authenticity. Right now, though, the city is perfect: romantic, unspoilt, safe and cheap.

Here is the story.. skip if you don't wanna here the vent..

Once upon a time, I worked with some people that would fly north to go south 'cause it was more miles..:confused3 . I always thought that was stupid and that my time was much more valuable than wasting another few hours in the air or at an airport..

Well, last night DH was finally focused on the air fare issue..he is tried of my bringing it up that we need air fare to the cruise ... so he starts looking at flights.. I am thinking Direct to LAX.. but no he is thinking stops, lots of legs, MORE MILES!!! He explains that if it stops and we have another leg it is more miles and he is into triple miles and it could be a big bunch...well since we are going to fly on Saturday instead of Sunday.. I keep my big mouth shut.. and do the YES DEAR thing..

So we are booked, and have lots of miles but we arrive on Saturday and I am VERY happy to have airfare... now to work on getting us home on Monday Sept 1st, hotels, transfers et al.....

Good Morning!

I received mine the other day. I noticed they did not have me as a CC member - showed me not being able to book excursions until June 3rd. I had to send an email to my TA so they can get that fixed before the big day!

Penny

Just curious, where did you notice the lack of the CC#?

Wow!!!!:thumbsup2 Are you going to have a fun TOAL!!!:woohoo: :woohoo:

Coral.....you deserve the vacation after what you are going through!!! ;) Children adapt better than you think!!!:flower3:

Could you make a plan and rules for the Three Giant White Chocolate Bunnies I have staring at me!!!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Send them here.

Have you a large version of this I cannot read it, very well?:lmao:

Susan, glad you are finally booked.

It has been raining here since 2pm.
DH is only 12 miles away and no rain. So a rainy Monday. Yuck. Hope it stops by the time I leave tonight. The news of only 20 Mondays left certainly puts the trip closer.

One of the teams has been selling baked goods for Junior Acheivement. $.75 brownies. Have to walk the other way. Too tempting.

Have to run...............:surfweb:

Hi Laura!!!! I did post a few times that we were going to WDW for a week, but you must have missed it . . . but at least one of the other pirates did fill you in. It was 7 days/6 nights but passed really quickly, in part because we did a split stay between the Poly and the BWI (for monorail vs. walking to Epcot and Studios convenience) and while I liked having the two resorts, I think it might have made the trip go by quicker . . . We had great weather, didn't get too hot until the weekend and no rain at all, no travel delays, etc., etc.
