I need help from the crafty people, please.

DS11 needs to create a model of an endangered animal. It needs to be the size of a shoe box & it needs to be able to hang from the ceiling in the classroom. No beanie babies, stuffed animals, plastic figures or pre-made models.

Can someone point me to a web site?
DS want to go to Michaels & get styrofoam balls, but I can't think of any endangered animals that are mostly ball shaped.

Help !!

my first thought was maybe a teradactyl, but those aren't endangered, they're gone....eagle maybe? use the balls for the body and construction paper or something for wings??

You find that purchasing multiday tickets is only way to get a good deal for DL tickets. Many times we can get 2 days for the price of one.

That would be fine if we had more than one day,we don't get in until 10:00pm

Just back from our PTO Silent/Live auction. I won a left cleat/shoe worn and signed by former Ohio State wide receiver and return specialist Ted Ginn Jr. #7. And, I also won a made to order cake that I will use for my dd's First Communion party.

This was the first auction our PTO has done and it was a lot of fun. I think we made a great deal of money on it as well! If anyone is looking for a "different" fundraiser for your school, you should consider doing this.

Roger - that happened to me once on out Med cruise. I happened to notice one other person on and saw that they had the coveted 10000 mark and I went back to edit mine - apparently that person did too and whola! I ended up with the coveted pirate:

It was a bit freaky at first but now that you mention what has happened to you - makes more sense. Now I don't have to avoid that person :lmao:

Anyway, as the saying goes -

OK guys - here is another reminder -

Calling All - this is a rallying call to ensnare you on one of the more fun-loving and memorable activities on the high seas. Make your cruise that much more memorable by joining other pirates in making one of your fellow crewmates' trip. Become a Secret Mickey. Not much is required - just a bit of imagination and a sense of adventure.

Our version of SM is similar to what many are familiar as Kris Kringle or gift exchange. Since this cruise is 15 days, you submit your names and some interesting information about yourselves and we pass that information to someone on the other end who has agreed to supply you with a surprise "gift" in your fish extender or other form of "mail/gift" holder.

We will also be holding a kids SM if you have any of the small pirates travelling with you. Just provide us with the same information as requested for the adults.

Once you receive a name, you agree to supply your SM with 5-6 gifts throughout your cruise with at least one being a main gift. You can either drop off in their fish or somehow get it to them without them seeing you. At the end of the cruise, at an allotted date (usually the last sea day) , we will gather together to unveil who your SM is. The fun is in trying to figure out who is surprising you. We suggest that the gifts be at least around $25-$30. I know that earlier versions have stated $30-$35 dollars but I think that if your creative - you can find many a great bargain which will bring a smile to your SM's face. Besides - as you all know - I am about saving $$$ (ROTFLMBO)

So, if I have enticed your imagination and would like more info - please feel free to contact me (eeyorelvr10) or Paula (pbader) who has graciously agreed to help me in this venture.

All you need to do is submit to me the following info:

DIS NAME:
REAL NAME:
CITY/STATE YOU LIVE IN:
E-MAIL ADDRESS: (will be kept secret from public)
CABIN:
FAVORITE DISNEY CHARACTER/S:
LIKES/HOBBIES:

Thanks All - hope to hear from you soon!

I checked out the Disneyland website and it says for a 1 Day,Single Park,Adult $66.00. That might have to do. :confused3

We'll have to think about it, we have a 10 pass for WDW at the end so its hard to justify $66 for 1 day, especially since it will be a Saturday and no doubt very crowded too.

Paper mache is not hard, but takes many days as it needs to dry between layers. Family fun website should have a good recipe; I used to get the magazine when the boys were young and used that to make projects.

Chrissie, it really is a small world. My Nana lives on Newfield St. I have no idea where the Natick Collection is:confused3. Guess I'll end up settling for whatever icecream Nana happens to have in the freezer.
:)
They do sell some in the local stores! Good luck!

The flu hit our house this week & so far DS has it. He missed school the last couple of days, but his fever broke & other than being really congested, he appears to be feeling better.

Glad he is feeling better!

We ordered the Wii for his birthday & it just arrived today so he & DD are having a ball playing.

Love the WII

DD is upset that one of her good "friends" is having a birthday party tonight, but she wasn't invited. Breaks my heart! :sad1:

That sticks! And it is so tough to say anything that would comfort:hug:

Plus she got her report card today & it is the first time in three years she hasn't made the principal's list. She got a B+ in advanced math & it dropped her out of the running. We are trying to let her know we are still proud of her, but yet it is hard not to let our disappointment show. :guilty:

Just keep doing what your doing!

I have this theory that all cat people are inherantly good people. :)
Speaking of cats. I may have to amend my signature. We have a new cat!
A few weeks ago we noticed this big kitten but not full grown cat playing in the water runoff thing across the street. No one claimed him and we got a whole lot of chorses of "I'm allergic", "I do not like cats" etc from all the neighbors. OK, so let's leave him out here to fend for himself. :sad2: Fortunately with my family no stray stays that way for long.
It started with me scooping him out of the drainage ditch right before a bad hail storm. Next thing I knew Bill had food, water, bed, litter box and toys in the garage. At that point I knew it was a lost cause.
I call the Vet, make and appt and $185.00 later- we are the proud new parents of Tiger!!
He was very healthy and had been neutered.
When the girls were playing with him outside one day a lady came up and said she lived a block over, it was her cat but we could have him. How's that for responsible cat parenting? :sad2:
Anyway he is an inside cat and in a very good home now.

Congrats on your new furry fur!

Oh oh... I'm not a cat person. But i do have a good cat story that may redeem myself.

I have allergies..really bad ones to animals...but I can deal if a cat/dog has a home (I miss not having a dog!)So I have 2 cats...one who is nuts...and then my one with attitude!

I need help from the crafty people, please.

I have been doing some research on the Tall Ship Festival in San Pedro August 15-17th. They are expecting 200,000+ people over the weekend to see these ships. :scared1: Here is the map of where they will be docked. If they are still there on Sunday (still do not have a schedule) when we leave, we will be sailing right by all of them. Those of you staying in San Pedro are in luck since many of them will be docked along Ports O'Call and will be available to explore Saturday afternoon and something to look at while dining.

Hi, just to confirm, I cant take part, Secret Mickey luggage restrictions transatlantic would cause problems and thats even if our luggage gets through T5 in time for the cruise, (I am giving BA four extra days there, cant see it turning up for Disneyland).

If I was taking part in the Secret Mickey, I wouldn't post any shameless plugs about my hobbies etc, or what I want.

anyway anyone see Doctor Who last night, it was great, anyone know where I can get a 30 foot Tardis?

I am glad I am starting the party at 9pm PDT. Maybe this makes up for having to get up at 4am on booking day. :yay:

From the rumors board....

How do the Martini's on the Magic stack up?

Unfortunately, that drink violates one (maybe 2) of M.'s Rules of Drinking.

Never drink anything bigger than your head
Never drink anything currently (or formerly) flaming
Never drink anything blue

Interesting and good timing.

I need help with the craft end of the project. Does anyone know where I can get instructions on making animal models?

When I google 3D animal models, I don't really get the info I need.

How difficult would papier mache be?

TIA

Paper mache is not hard, but takes many days as it needs to dry between layers. Family fun website should have a good recipe; I used to get the magazine when the boys were young and used that to make projects.

Have you considered modeling clay? The newer plastic kinds come in many colors, and you can get the kind that you can bake to harden - works great.

HI pirate: 's

Interesting weekend... Drove up to Happy Valley and met some college friends. I will post a pic when i get it in the mail.

Another thought is that there may be less movies around the Goofy Pool if they show the Olympics on the big screen

Aren't we boycotting those?:confused3

We'll have to think about it, we have a 10 pass for WDW at the end so its hard to justify $66 for 1 day, especially since it will be a Saturday and no doubt very crowded too.

Hey Paula,

Are your day 10 passes non-expiry? or park hopper? If so you might be able to use one of those days to trade into one DL park day.

LET'S GO CAPS!

Yes.... and explain to your sons that they are only winning because your family moved here. ;) They're record was pretty lousy for the past couple years prior.

Just back from our PTO Silent/Live auction. I won a left cleat/shoe worn and signed by former Ohio State wide receiver and return specialist Ted Ginn Jr. #7.

Cool...You may have a shoe with lots of history, maybe not good history as a Buckeye fan, but still a story to tell:

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Ohio State had an eye-popping initial answer to Florida's supposed speed advantage. Ted Ginn Jr. took the opening kickoff and sprinted into BCS title-game history with a 93-yard touchdown return.

Ginn sprinted 93 yards on the game's opening kickoff.
But the fast start for Ginn and the Buckeyes took a sudden turn in the wrong direction. While the scarlet and gray portion of the crowd erupted, Ginn hurt his left foot. The injury happened during the post-play celebration in the end zone, Ginn said.

I figure what would be actually lost in case of trip interruption or cancellation...For example, if the excursion is pre-pay non-refundable, I'd include it. If it's a pay if/when you go, then I'd not count it. Same for hotels, usually, you can cancel a hotel up to 6pm same day or some are 72 hours in advance, so it's not really a risk that I'd insure.

Shannon,

The Family Basics Plan at Access America (http://www.accessamerica.com) says it provides free coverage for kids. I don't know if this is a good policy or not...we purchased our insurance through our TA, and I don't remember offhand what type of coverage we got.

Laura, how much ahead of the cruise will we be assigned our person? It would be great to know sooner rather than later so that if they are not someone we know well we can watch for clues about things they like in their regular postings . . .

Hey Julie - how much time you think you guys need? I was thinking about assigning between the last week in June and first couple weeks in July. DS's b-day is on 7/7 then comes DD's and mine plus we got our anniversary and the cruise so I'm going to be pretty much gone after the 15th of July until Aug.

Anyone else wants to weigh in?

OH YEAH! If anyone wants to update or remembers anything they would like to include in their "bio" I will be more than happy to pass this along with to your SM.

I.E. - I was taking a shower today and was pleasantly surprised to realize that I was using a Bath and Body Shower Gell in trial size that my SM gave me on my last cruise. It was Cherry Blossom Gel and whenever I use it - it makes me smile all over. It came in handy on the cruise too.

You might not get a straight answer when calling. But it is definitely true. You just go to the ticket booth or turnstile. They'll have to call and verify days left but will issue you a 1 day hopper for DL. If you want multi days, you'll have to exchange it every morning.

That's for sure - DH came up with some WDW hoppers we have had since our original trip back in '90. The girl at the desk didn't want to commit an answer but she did end up telling us to go to the admission ticket booth and they would exchange them there.

They are expiring hoppers so that won't work and its probably not worth upgrading to non-expiring just for one day. Also a friend is meeting us in Orlando and he has a 10 day pass to match ours so we won't want to stuff him up either. Good plan though :)

Hi, Laura! Since we will be wanting to find a series of things smaller and larger to give to our SM, the more time we know who we have the better, in my opinion . . . perhaps you could have a rolling enrollment where those already signed up are assigned next month and then you set a deadline for any new signups and sign them up closer to time? On the other time, I can see this being a lot more work, and since I'm not the one doing the work I will happily accept my SM assignment whenever I get it!:goodvibes

Hey Tina - after the last two double digits days - what I wouldn't do for a bit of s***. Hopefully Monday only hits the forecasted 80's but I wouldn't hold my breathe. I tried to walk the furrkids today - they boycotted their walk - and it was 7:30 when I attempted. They weren't having any part of it. :confused3 Oh well, they had their chance. :cutie:

Yesterday, the s*** didn't get a chance to stick, it was just the idea of it this late in the season. It's suspose to be spring! It was clold and windy too. Today is nice ans sunny so far and much warmer.

afternoon..:surfweb: been MIA.. I started the new job last Monday and haven't had time to DIS at all with the Eagle ceremony, scouts and NHS all last week plus the new job things have been busy.. Scouts went camping this weekend.. it was COLD with rain and snow and COLD.. it was very MUDDY too.. great fun  ..so today I am cooking, cleaning, laundry and stuff before I LEAVE on Monday for the week..

BTW i was in lady clothes all week and MY FEET Hurt. I am not used to wearing anything but gymn shoes.. so to get dressed up and wear flt or flatish lady shoes.. :scared1:

Hope you like the new job, Susan. Too bad about having to wear the big girl clothes, though

Just wanted to make sure you all knew I was still alive....and I KNOW some of you were concerned  ;) .....have still been trying to catch up on paperwork and stuff....and now DS has that nasty staph again....one thing after another.
Have been able to skim a little (very little) but it's killing me to not be on here every day!!

Hi Stace :wave2: . Sorry to hear your son is sick again. Hope he recovers quickly.

Thanks for the info, Roger. I saw the Tall Ship Parade in Boston quite a few years back and it was something to see. I don't think we will see the parade since they are coming in before Saturday

party: I JUST PIF !!!!!!!!!

Can I join the party....I PIF on Friday :dancer: party: :dancer:

Also at Old Navy for your older boys and DH's......

......or me

Chrissie your quote didn't come out but, thanks for the encouragement about DD! And DS is still not feeling great, he's coughing a lot, but funny thing is it seems to have settled into my neck. For 3 days I've had a stiff neck & just over all tired, but no other symptoms. :confused3

I hope you and DS feel better soon :flower3: . That coughing cooties is making its' way around here too.

I know Cheryl posted something a week or two back about the "Group Rate" available at the Doubletree, but I can never find anything on this board (especially with an intervening pirate:)..... So anyone who knows what the "Group Rate" is, please supplement..... (and tell me if the "" on the "Group Rate" are warranted.

Today's rate for booking on the Doubletree website (http://doubletree1.hilton.com/en_US/dt/hotel/LGBSPDT-Doubletree-Hotel-San-Pedro-California/index.do;jsessionid=959E6C39DDF16051F6E6757C80B0A1 CC.etc43?brand_id=DT&brand_directory=/en/dt/&xch=177326590,UISKMX3MTZRSSCSGBJN222Q)are $143.10 for non-refundable (pay at booking) and $159.00 for cancelable up to ?? hours prior to arrival (24 I think, may be 72). Both are queen bed and for the night of 16th only. Check for other combos.

I do a fair amount of travelling for work and one of the organizations I deal with has a preference for the Hilton chain (Doubletree is a Hilton property). I have found that if you check every day, you will get different rates every day. Some higher, some lower....

If I remember correctly, the rate Cheryl had posted was in line with the rates on the website now and is more than some people may have booked for months ago.

Once cool thing with Hilton is you can book and cancel over and over as long as you don't pick the non-refundable rates. So if a better rate comes along, you can book it first then cancel the old rate.

Another thing with Hilton "Group Rates" is if you fall below the minimum number of rooms, you either lose the rate and go to current rack rate or you have to guarantee the rooms (otherwise, book 10 rooms and cancel 9....).

All this said (and wow I take the long way to get to the point) I'm not sure the "Group Rate" will benefit the group.

Thoughts?

ETA: One other thing to consider is that with the Tall Ships in town, hotels will likely become scarce as we get closer.

That's up for debate. I say 18 since we haven't had this Monday yet. Roger would say 17 since we are out of bed.

Umm....out of different beds...at least Lisa and I are...out of bed that is...at least I assume...I have no idea where Roger is...

I have been up for awhile. But since I took the day off I am still counting today. If I had been working I would have said it doesn't count. Envious about your trip to WDW....with the snow last week, it would have been nice to get away. However, I need to save my vacation days for August.

Agree about the snow. Last Thursday we had so much snow that they cancelled the Rockies-Braves afternoon game because of the snow. It had all melted by 5 pm, but at game time it was coming down like a blizzard.

Our weekend was gorgeous and it's suppossed to be in the 70's and near 80 today and tomorrow, but Wednesday we could get more of that dreaded snow. It'll be too "warm" (if you call mid to upper 30's warm) to stick to anything, but I just want it to be Spring and stay Spring!

At least they're calling for it to be sunny and in the 60's the later part of the week and weekend.

BARGAIN ALERT!!!!

I almost never go to Dollar Tree, but I took this kids Saturday to help make up for 3 hours of suit shopping. ANYWAY, they had continuous spray SPF 30 sunscreen for a BUCK! I love that stuff, but it is pretty spendy and a bottle doesn’t last long. The stuff I bought No-Ad and doesn’t expire until 04/09.

The kicker?? Pirates of the Caribbean themed bottles! pirate:

I just requested off the morning of Monday, May 19th. I emailed my boss (who works in PA, I am in OH) that I had an "appointment". I didn't say it was an appointment with my computer. :rotfl2: Said I wasn't sure when I would be in and if it was late I would "work from home". :thumbsup2 :rolleyes1

My TA emailed me to say she hadn't heard about us being charged the extra $5 for the Mexican ports. Hopefully I will be PIF by early May and not have to pay it. I did receive my planning kit on Friday. Not a whole lot of new stuff but exciting none the less.

We didn't have internet this weekend (disconnected it to paint) so I am trying to ketchup.

Wishing everyone a Happy Monday and only 17 more until TOAL.:yay:  :yay:

Don't cout us out yet!!!:cool1:

Okay I got the group rate of $158.52 including all taxes for the Doubletree at San Pedro. We have to book 10 rooms but we must use at least use 8 out of the 10 ressies made. They have two shuttles and start at 11 am to about 12:30 pm. ...then a lunch break. They said with lots of luggage they could transport about 16 peeps at a time. The group booking had me talk to the head that transports the shuttles to the port. There is no set charge but he would expect about $5.00 a family in gratuities. That is all I found out and didn't mean to step on any toes Stace. I am just trying to see all the options.

Cheryl got further with the Doubletree than I did. Good job, Cheryl!

It DID boil down to the rooms being actually cheaper if you booked online on your own. And if switching to a group rate means cancelling your ressie and re-booking, under the circumstances with the Tall Ships, that wouldn't be a good idea anyway.

I can't wait to see those ships! Thanks for that info, Roger. Made us realize we had better make advanced dinner reservations. My son is REALLY going to be irritated if he finds out I get to see those ships and he doesn't. Oh well....maybe when he's 50, he'll get to take a TOAL. ;)

Not enough! :lmao: Actually, including our cruise 3 times in 2007. Feb Jul Oct. They were all long weekends. Our school district has a break the week of April 28th so we are try our new DVC at SSR. This time we are there for a week and going to do some <GASP> non-Disney stuff. Kennedy Space Center, Outlet shopping and maybe Universal. Also dd's friend will be there with her family and we may meet up at WDW. Then dd can finally get to go on some roller coasters and the Tower of Terror. ( That's right, mom doesn't do that stuff!)

Hi Everyone!

Looks like I have a LOT of ketchup to do - I was off the DIS pretty much all last week :sad2:

Every so often, we get one of these insane weeks where we are running from one thing to another every day - that was last week. It started at the weekend with eye-appointments for all 3 of us and a visit to the inlaws, Monday was DS's step-dance & DH & I had choir practice, Tuesday was PTO meeting, Wednesday was DS's fiddle lesson and karate, Thursday was a doctor appt & garden club board meeting and Friday was the dress-rehearsal for our choir concert! (and DH & I both work fulltime :scared1: ) The weekend was more of the same - Karate lesson, Karate promotion test, Concert, Cub scout's Blue & Gold event, etc.

I am so glad it is all over :thumbsup2 I'll try and ketchup here over the next couple days. This week should be easy - just step-dance, fiddle & karate and DS starts swim lessons on Tuesday! But choir is over until fall and there isn't any PTO or garden club stuff this week :cheer2:

We had snow flurries yesterday. Now that is depressing!!:sad2: :sad2: Now how many time have you been to Florida in the past year???;) ;) ;)

We woke up Sunday morning to a half inch blanket of snow on the ground here in the Milwaukee area. CRAZY!

Hey, are we feeling like we are prepared for the crazy Palo/excursion booking fun that is coming up? I was reading throught the Westbounders boards from those days and they seem to have had a horrible time of it. I know we still have a few weeks (okay, like 5), to go but I am a little bit worried. I decided to consider booking some things on my own. I have never done that before.

Any advice? I know Andrew has some good tips on the Panama Crossing thread.

And just so you don't get overconfident about our grand adventure booking, the Repo cruises have an unusually high number of Castaway Club members, so more competition, for what may be the first time ever, DCL has both an August 17 Magic and August 17 Wonder departure that will be trying at the same time, and its Sunday night, and, DCL sent pre-cruise packages to many who have cancelled already.....

No problem....

These are the two things that scare me the most about that night.

It's been a couple of years and I had no issues booking what I needed on our last cruise so I have a question for you booking experts:

As we have two rooms, do I have to book excursions for each room separately or can I book all 5 of us at the same time once I get successfully logged in to the DCL website (fingers crossed) under either one of the two reservations?

Thanks!!

I am wondering the same thing. Will I need to have 2 of us on different computers to try to coordinate excursions etc? This will be double fun:dance3: :dance3: What if some of us in one room get something, but not the other room?

Can this be any more difficult?

I think the only must do excursion for us will be in Cartagena. No taking any chances there. Thanks to my DS16 reading the State Dept warnings out loud, my DD14 doesn't even want to get off the ship! UGH!

DCL says:-

Please note: For Guests in travel parties with 1 to 4 staterooms, if another Guest in your stateroom or another stateroom linked to yours is currently in My Cruise Plans, you will be unable to retrieve your reservation below. Guests in travel parties with 5 or more staterooms must retrieve each reservation separately to arrange activities in My Cruise Plans.

If reservations are linked you wil lbe able to book shore trips for ALL of your party at once.

Thanks! I thought this was the case, but wanted to double check. The DCL quote mentions that if someone is already logged-in, another person won't be able to access their reservation. My DW and I were going to each try logging in and see who gets in first. Has the trouble in the past been not being able to log-in or getting kicked-out once you're logged-in?

Doesn't Brigham's have the worlds' BEST hot fudge!
:cloud9:

Cleveland-area Malley's has the best hot fudge. So good, we named our dog after it.

Nope - Best hot fudge is Saunder's - it's from Michigan, so we have to mail order!

Just read that AirTran is going to begin charging $10 for second checked bag starting in May. The article didn't say if they would be grandfathering in anyone who already holds tickets.

THat is really annoying - we've had our flight back booked since January. I just emailed them to ask about those who booked early since their website sounds like we stuck with it...

Not to sound too dorky, but at least "We are all in this together..." please picture dancing high schoolers...Now I am going to have that stuck in my head...

Great - now that is stuck in my head too! I swear that song is worse than Small World :rotfl2:

Hopefully, I'll get a chance to check in again later tonight (no choir!) - now I have to shut down the office and pick up DS from the bus and take him to step-dance.

OK DCL LONDON OFFICE CEO says,

Yes only one person can log on on ressies, apart from quoted above,
(Guests in travel parties with 5 or more staterooms must retrieve each reservation separately to arrange activities in My Cruise Plans). So no one should bypass the system, I understand this was the reason so many WB Repo cruisers had problems and had to log out and back in, thinking they could be smart and making multiple bookings on different PC's at the same time.

The last time we sailed with two rooms (DW & DD in one and DH & DS booked in the other). I had to sign in for one room and get all of their reservations while my DH signed in on another computer to do likewise. It would not allow me to book everyone in our party on an excursion (which is why at 3am I was "yelling" at my husband to help with the bookings.) All I can tell you was that the Palo reservations opened at 3am and were gone by 3:15. Everything else I was able to book without too much incident. Hopefully they will have improved in the the last year with their system.

And I love the email response from DCL:

"Dining attire varies by venue or theme night on your cruise. In
general,
most meals are "Cruise Casual" -- no shorts, swimwear or tank tops;
jeans, khakis and capris are permitted. Most cruises also have special
theme nights.

At this time we do not have the theme nights for the 15 Night Eastbound

Panama Canal Cruise.

I hope this information has been helpful. If you require further
assistance in planning your visit, please feel free to contact us."

Dont know if this has been discussed yet or not........and I see the response from DCL on the schedule for dinner is lacking.........what do you guys think the best dining rotation would be ????

We had APL on both of our 7 dy cruises and had Lumiers on Formal night which was great. I did request APL as our rotation as well as a specific table. (of course the response was we will note that on your reservation, but cant guarantee it) We did get what we requested on our last cruise so I will keep my fingers crossed. But with so many castaway members that know the tricks.............

I have the smae dilemma as others......what night to book Palo......I would hate to book it and miss Pirate night.......the others I could miss, unless they come up with something special for our cruise.

I have been lucky to have some of that too! It was delicious!!!:goodvibes

Ladies, I can be your dealer! LOL!:thumbsup2

I grew up on Saunder's hot fudge. I love the milk chocolate fudge. they went out of business years ago, but they have opened a couple of stores the past couple of years. We have one here! Haven't been yet. We also have a Stroh's ice cream place and they use Saunder's hot fudge. I love the Hot Fudge Cream Puffs! When I was a kid they cost 80 cents, now they are $3.80! Morley candy makers make the Saunder's products now, but they use the original recipies. Saunder's was the place to go back in the day. I remember asking for a Saunder's birthday cake when I was a kid. They had baked goods, ice cream and candy.

I have been catching up a little. I didn't realize how much this thread can move.

Welcome back Cheryl. We missed you!

But choir is over until fall and there isn't any PTO or garden club stuff this week

Pamela

Golly is that all???
My dad just laughed at the calendar on our fridge when he was visiting - of course he lived it 20 years ago. At least we can look forward to the day we can knowing laugh at our kids busy lives.

No problem....

...and it's a Monday...
13 Mondays before TOAL.

Did you know June has 5 Mondays this year?? That's just not right.

Actually its just been changed,

Midnight Eastern 9pm Pacific, and 4.45 am London.

President of Europe operations DCL London office.

GO STARS!!!

This upsets me too. I want to dine at Palo, but not on Pirate, formal, semi-formal, or a good show night. ARGH!

GO CAPS!!

I know that the WB people got their schedule of nights prior to their booking day. So I am pretty confident that DCL will have ours before the 19th. I will probably be the 17th or 18th, lots of time to decide. :sad2:

I think we all better wish upon a star and whatnot for that.

Sort of ironic that the Pope may prevent DH from attending first communion.
A pain to switch gears this close to a party, but have you thought about Plan B? Our kids aren't going through the service with their class. We are going to DH's home parish in Cleveland (FIL is a deacon and they were an original family in this parish) during a different week. The kids don't have receive first communion with their class, they can really do it any time.

Cartagena info.

Below is an article from this week's Sunday Times travel section which I've typed up for your delight!

Visiting film locations can be disappointing. Once the set designers and prop masters have left town, and the CGI wizards have worked their magic, there is often little correlation between the place on screen & the real thing.

Cartagena is a glorious exception. A former Spanish port on the Caribbean coast of Colombia, it is both the setting and stage for Love in the Time of Cholera, a classic novel by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and now a movie by the British director Mike Newell.

The story tells how love struck young clerk Florentino Ariza, played by Oscar-winner Javier Bardem, waits 50years for the hand of his childhood sweetheart, Fermina Daza. Set around the turn of the 20th century, Garcia Marquez’s tale of magical realism is infused with the sultry, torpid atmosphere of Cartagena, where he worked as a young reporter.

Because of fears surrounding Colombia’s recent violent past, the studio had planned to use Brazil for the location work – until Newell visited Cartagena and fell in love with it. So exquisitely preserved is the fortified old town, with its 18th century colonial mansions and perfumed courtyards, that little work was required to age it by more than 100years. Although the resulting movie has received mixed reviews, Cartagena itself easily takes the full five stars.

In the old town, horse-drawn buggies rattle along narrow cobbled streets and bougainvillea spills from carved wooden balconies. In the Parque de Bolivar, shoeshine boys shelter from the punishing midday sun beneath the shade of tall palm trees and rubber trees. Across the street, under the arches of the Plaza de la Proclamacion – where the market scenes were filmed – women in billowing skirts balance bowls of watermelon on their heads.

Wrapped around the old town are battlements, built by 8000 African slaves to protect their colonial masters from pirates. For more than 200 years, Cartagena grew rich on plundered treasure. Gold and emeralds stolen from indigenous South Americans were stashed in warehouses, loaded onto fleets of galleons and sailed back to Spain. Some ships fell to pirates – among them Sir John Hawkins and Sir Francis Drake. One vessel, the San Jose, was said to have been sunk by the Spanish just outside Cartagena lest its hoard fall into British hands. The wreck has never been recovered.

Today, the best introduction to Cartagena is to walk the ramparts, gazing across terracotta rooftops at ornate church towers and voluptuous cupolas. In the late afternoon, as a welcome breeze blows off the Caribbean, students from the nearby university stroll arm in arm, and lovers curl up in the embrasures.

In the people of Cartagena it’s easy to see the influences of Africa, Europe and South America, mixed and melded over the centuries. Charming and friendly, they move with a languid grace and exude an effortless sensuality, the men handsome, the women flirtatious.

Nor do you need to look hard to find characters who could have been lifted from the pages of a Garcia Marquez novel. My guide, Andres, who worked last year on the production of the movie, introduced himself with a soft handshake: “I am 59 years old and have lived everyday of my life in the city”.

In the atmospheric church of San Pedro Claver, where Fermina’s wedding to Dr Jevenal Urbino was filmed, he pointed out an elderly man with silver hair and small round spectacles who knelt and prayed silently in the back pew. “Every time I come, he is there, always in the same place. Don’t ask me why”, Andres whispered.

Pedro Claver, a Spanish priest, devoted his life to improving the lot of the city’s slaves and is revered in Cartagena. He was canonised in the 19th century, and his bones lie in a glass-sided coffin beneath the church’s altar, his skull resting on a pillow. Next door, beneath the crumbling porticoes of a former convent, is the sell where he lived and died.

Across town, another convent has been cleverly transformed in to Cartagena’s finest hotel. Retaining much of the original structure, including a splendidly overgrown courtyard, the Sofitel Santa Clara has incorporated a sumptuous pool and spa. Drop by for a cocktail and sneak to the fifth floor terrace to gaze into the garden of the neighbouring house, owned by Garcia Marquez.

It’s possible than within a few years Cartagena will lose some of its magic. Spiralling property prices may force local people out of the old town and strip it of its authenticity. Right now, though, the city is perfect: romantic, unspoilt, safe and cheap.

Celestine

I qouted this again cuz it was interesting. Thank You Celeste for this.

Hi..

BIG excitment HERE!!! We finally booked air far to LAX!!! YEAH!!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Here is the story.. skip if you don't wanna here the vent..

Once upon a time, I worked with some people that would fly north to go south 'cause it was more miles..:confused3 . I always thought that was stupid and that my time was much more valuable than wasting another few hours in the air or at an airport..

Well, last night DH was finally focused on the air fare issue..he is tried of my bringing it up that we need air fare to the cruise ... so he starts looking at flights.. I am thinking Direct to LAX.. but no [SIZE="2"][COLOR="DarkRed"]he is thinking stops, lots of legs, MORE MILES!!! He explains that if it stops and we have another leg it is more miles and he is into triple miles and it could be a big bunch...well since we are going to fly on Saturday instead of Sunday.. I keep my big mouth shut.. and do the YES DEAR thing..

So we are booked, and have lots of miles but we arrive on Saturday and I am VERY happy to have airfare... now to work on getting us home on Monday Sept 1st, hotels, transfers et al.....

http://www.webflyer.com/extras/postcards/images/cartoon2.gif

We share the same psychotic passion for getting miles - points or credits for every sort of game and shopper perk. At one time Alicia and I had a cobined milage balance in excess of a MILLION miles. We'd fly to get the extra miles and the next higher flight status for better bonusing with United. Arrrgh! It waqs fun while it lasted - now I fly little (for miles) and have been slowly using my balance of miles.

Thank Goodness Monday is almost over..... [ed]...

Early this morning about 4 am I was startled by a banging on the door. I thought someone was trying to break in.:scared1: My heart was racing. I turned on my light and ran into my bathroom where I left my cell phone. The banging stopped and I quietly exited the bathroom with cell phone in hand ready to dial 911. Other than shadows (which were freaking me out) I didn't see/hear anything anymore... I then notice one of my father's cats sitting on one side of a door...very smugly looking at me with "what do you want, I'm busy" look. :snooty: One the other side of the door was my little monster sitting so innocently.:rolleyes1 Apparently they were going after each other under the door and my father's cat slammed himself into the door trying to get at my monster. (my monster probably went back at him too) I could have strung them both up...:furious: After that sleeping wasn't much of an option. I just had to share the start of my day.... and yes my day did get better...that is for a Monday. It took many hours to calm my heart back down... and I did have my blood pressure checked.. 115/80...not bad for having the beegeezus scared out of me. :)
Here's to a quieter Tuesday! :drinking1

I haven't been on like I should to catch up on everything:surfweb: ..I have had the flu for the past two weeks and felt like a bobble head. I feel like I am missing important dates! I found the dates to order the t-shirts and have sent my info for other things. My question is this..did I miss the date for the bracelets? If not..when is the order date. Unfortunately, life is kinda hetic lately and I am normally really on top of things and this month - I am not.

Thanks in advance for your help! Also... for the cabin tour..we are still in need of room volunteers! If you can donate your room or just want to go on the tour - it would be great. You can PM me. I will compile the categories I already have and post them.

thanks!

Hi Desiree,
Glad you're feeling better:goodvibes
I don't think the order for bracelets has happened yet. Last I heard they were taking a poll to get numbers. It was under the t-shirt ordering on the planning board because I think the bracelets are going to be combined with the t-shirt orders (not sure about this though).

The cabin tour sounds like fun. What I'm wondering is if you donate your room, how do you get to see other people's rooms. I can't leave my kids in the room to let other DIS people in (goes aginst the rules) and my DH is not likely to be willing to hang around the cabin for any length of time:confused3
Also, I'm gty cat 6, no room number yet:confused3

Luckily I did not need a new suit---Ryan fit perfectly into Devin's from last year. Actually fit him better. Just finished calling in the menu for his party next weekend.....however we may have hit a snag.......DH may have to work next Saturday -----with the Pope's visit there are no excusals. It is his regualr day off, but could be ordered to work overtime (keeping our fingers crossed) even got a letter from the parish confirming its his Communion Day.

I hope your dh doesn't have to work next Saturday! Kylie's first Communion is May 3rd. Hope we all have beautiful days!!!

That is so nice the boys will receive their first Communion at your in-laws parish. Will they be the only first Communicants during the Mass, or will there be other kids from that parish?

Chrissie, don't feel bad I was rejected too......:goodvibes free stuff makes it all better.

I almost wish I was rejected earlier for the mom's panel! I made it to the last 24! So I had a phone interview and everything, THEN was rejected! It was such a sad time for me. As soon as I hung up the phone, I knew I wasn't going to make it because I really just babbled and babbled and babbled. I am a talker, but I can usually control myself. I was just too excited I think. So I had a little bit of sadness about the whole thing. I was in an email group with about 15 of the other 24 finalists and I think they did a great job of picking the Mom's Panel and everyone of the finalists that I "met" was wonderful!

I am so happy for them but I think it is a really hard job that you don't get paid for, so in the end, it is probably better that I didn't make it. (Plus, the week that they went for training my son was super sick and I lost hearing in one ear and was pretty sick too).

Anyway, that was my super exciting experiece, I didn't sleep for days as we had a lot of waiting between moving to the next group. Sigh...I still wish I could go back and redo that interview...

PS, I keep telling everyone that I am glad I didn't make and in reality that is true, but between you all and me, I still wish I would have!

And I love the email response from DCL:

"Dining attire varies by venue or theme night on your cruise. In
general,
most meals are "Cruise Casual" -- no shorts, swimwear or tank tops;
jeans, khakis and capris are permitted. Most cruises also have special
theme nights.

At this time we do not have the theme nights for the 15 Night Eastbound

Panama Canal Cruise.

I hope this information has been helpful. If you require further
assistance in planning your visit, please feel free to contact us."

Ummm...yeah, that was real helpful.

Perhaps, I'm thinking (scary, I know, but bear with me), we should all make a daily e-mail to DCL until they get so sick of trying to think up new non-answers that they just make up the schedule to shut us up?

What do you think?

None at my Dollar Tree :sad2:

None at mine either. They did have Uncle Bob's brand rub on, but not cool POC spray. I'm so cheap I can justify spending the eight or ten bucks for the spray when it doesn't last 1/2 as long as the rub on stuff...

Everyone sit down, multiple thoughts coming out here.....

I don't think the rotation really matters, we will be in each of the dining rooms about 5 times..... The first time through will be the normal DCL room experience (changing of walls in AP, etc.) then into themes.

Your rotation will look like:

APLAPLAPLAPLAPL
PLAPLAPLAPLAPLA
LAPLAPLAPLAPLAP

Then if you overlay it on the itinerary......YIKES :scared1:

http://s174.photobucket.com/albums/w106/EB_Repo/APL.jpg

Looking at this, PV and Aruba have 11:30 on-boards, so many people won't eat in their rotation. According to the DCL notice to travel agents, Aruba Cabo, Aruba and Acapulco (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=24329063&postcount=1492) will be deck party nights (although the Captain tells us that Aruba will not be one since we are there till 11:30), then add in two formal nights, bonus deck party on TPC day....(don't think I have a point here, just rambling)

If you are joining our linked dining, you probably will lose ability to request a specific rotation, as we will be requesting a time and get which rotation falls at that time.

My guess, safe nights for Palo vs. Pirate night, sea nights between Acapulco and TPC or even late TPC night.

Missing formal night? Who knows?

Looking at Westbound (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=24342060&postcount=1) you could guess on our formal nights but at best its a guess

May 10th We Sail Away!
May 11th Castaway Cay 9am-5pm
May 12th Sea Day Formal NightMay 13th Sea Day
May 14th Aruba 7:30am-9:30pm Tropical Night
May 15th Sea Day
May 16th Panama Canal Day!
May 17th Sea Day Semi Formal Night May 18th Sea Day
May 19th Acapulco 12noon-9:30pm Mexican Deck Party
May 20th Sea Day
May 21st Puerto Vallarta 7:30am-4:45pm
May 22nd Cabo San Lucas 8am-7:30pm Pirate Night
May 23rd Sea Day Formal Ballroom under the Stars Night May 24th Sea Day
May 25th Port of L.A. they drag us off the ship

With the new rotations (that I have yet to make sense of) there's no telling where we'll be any given night.

New rotation?

That is so nice the boys will receive their first Communion at your in-laws parish. Will they be the only first Communicants during the Mass, or will there be other kids from that parish?

DH still considers it 'his' parish too. The kids will be the only 'firsts'. We're doing it during Sat. evening Mass too, since the best weekend for all involved (grandparents, godparents, us) happens to be the same Sunday as Confirmation in their parish. It's pretty cool, though. FIL married us, baptised both the kids and will also give them first communion - pretty rare for Catholics!

I think it's pretty cool that you made it that far!

It was pretty cool. I think the neatest part was that over half of the 24 finalists found each other via discussion boards and we were able to get to know each other during the experience. Plus, we had a whole board here on the DIS that would give us encouragement and hung in there with us through the whole process. It was a really great life experience.

I am a big believer in "everything happens for a reason" so I am just waiting for the next big adventure. Oh, I know what that is, THE TOAL!!!!

Got about 50% of planning done, I am feeling pretty good. I actually made a full list of the things I need to finalize and a (WATCH OUT, SCARY WORD COMING) budget.

So I am feeling pretty good. Plus, I have all the packing done. GO ME!

1) I am clearly technology challenged as I tried to make the word Budget super tiny. That clearly did not work.

2) I was just checking to see if anyone was paying attention. I do NOT have any packing done. Just messing with y'all.

I sent an e-mail to Airtrain asking about the fee for second checked bag:

It appears from your website that you are now charging another hidden fee, $10 for the second bag checked effected May 14, 2008. Is this for tickets purchased after that date or for flights after that date. Specifically, if we have a ticket purchased months ago for a flight in August, are we subject to this fee?

I thought it was a matter of fact, straight forward question, so I get their reply:

Dear Mr. ,

I am sorry to learn of your disappointment with AirTran Airways, however, we thank you for allowing us the opportunity to address your concerns.

In an effort to offset rising fuel costs, AirTran Airways will implement a $10.00 one way (or $20.00 round trip) fee per passenger for the second checked bag effective May 15, 2008. Customers will not be charged for the one allowed carry on bag or the first piece of checked luggage, within restrictions. Business Class and Elite customers will be exempt from the second bag fee. Nevertheless, your comments have been forwarded to the appropriate department head for review.

We thank you for including AirTran Airways in your travel plans and we hope to have the opportunity to serve you again in the future.
Sincerely,

Susan M. Callaway
Customer Relations Department
AirTran Airways

Now, this sort of apologizes for disappointing me.. ummm I didn't say I was disappointed :confused3 :confused3

I asked is it for prebooked tickets, and their answer seems to say it is, but isn't explicit.

Of course, for $10 will I cancel (we will have worst case 6 bags, so $20 extra).

Most of us are taking the train to LA, so not a problem. But I booked my husband and daughter on Airtran to LA (for only $109 one way direct from Milwaukee!!!) and I was going to send the biggest bags with them. So, what to do?

However, like you said, the airfare I got was fantastic so I can't complain about an extra $10 or $20. Just trying to stay in my budget.

However, like you said, the airfare I got was fantastic so I can't complain about an extra $10 or $20. Just trying to stay in my budget.

I DID IT!!!! My naughty word was really little!

Tom, you are a worker bee aren't ya?

I have a feeling that you are a fantastic employee, from what I have seen you do. So, I feel it is your employers obligation to allow you some "free time" while at the office. Feel free to show this post to your boss!

New rotation?

From the Main Board;

We just got off the Magic this morning and there was a new dining rotation. Usually the rotations are APL, PLA or LAP, however our rotation was PLLAPLA. They have started this because they are going to the LA for the summer and are trying something new Apparently the new rotation is also supposed to go along with the shows they have each night in the Walt Disney Theater. Unfortunately, they didn't get everything they needed to start the new menu's for this week, so it is supposed to start next week. However, since they had already made up the rotations, we did the new rotation without the new menu. Just thought I would let everyone know what to expect because we were totally confused when we got our KTTW cards.

I am a fantastic employee, just ask me!

And if I show this to my boss, DIS will be added to the sites we aren't allowed to visit.:scared1:

[COLOR="blue"]I know that the WB people got their schedule of nights prior to their booking day. So I am pretty confident that DCL will have ours before the 19th. I will probably be the 17th or 18th, lots of time to decide. :sad2:

We're in a suite so I need it sooner then that! :) I am seriously starting to have anxiety over my dinner plans! LOL! That must be a sign of crazy!

It's talking about the border cities so we'll be fine.

Alright, I am going to be really creative and try to add a picture just so my last post doesn't scare anyone too much about Columbia and volcanos.

Hmmmm, can't do it.

So anywya, there is a link in the article with a map.

I know, I will email the map to Captain Crash and he can post it.

To be continued...

I'm just waiting for the day when I try to access DIS and I get the big red and blue Blocked Site Warning from my employer. That will be a very sad day. :guilty:

Actually the rotation schedule for formal nights, etc for the WB was announced in mid December, which was 2 months prior to the 90 day booking window. I sent an email to my clients that are on the May sailing on December 14, 2007 letting them know about the formal nights, pirate night, etc

I am keeping positive thoughts that the reason we haven't received our EB info is that they are planning a great surprise for us and are waiting to confirm whatever that is and plan all the other nights around it. I don't have any insider info here just trying to think positive instead of being

Thanks. I was going to try to find that. Basically they are doing away with the set patterns. We'll have to double check out KTTW card every night to figure out where we'll be dining.

I knew I should have filled up last night at Costco. Decided to wait until I was out today. It's going to be scary to see what we're up to. It was $3.73 last night.

Thanks

Thanks..clothes aren't as bad as the shoes.. YUCK!

BTW i signed up for the Zip line at 2 pm. Can we meet and go together??

Yes, definately. I am solo.

I think I have finally caught the crud! Been sneezing for three days and now a sore throat with no voice (my kids LOVE it)! Tonight I am running a fever of 100. YUCK!! Guess I need to call my principal to get a sub for tomorrow.

Hope you feel better taody. DD is home sick. We are going to the Dr later. She got sent home yesterday for being Dizzy and school nurse said her ears didn't look too good. Now she is coughing and has a sore throat - GREAT!!

Got to go and get a pirate treasure map drawn on my leg today when I went for my vein mapping. Tomorrow I will be having minor vascular procedure done to correct an accident that I had some 20 yrs ago. I get to have drugs tonight and tomorrow. :drinking: Bad news is that there will be no coffee in the morning. :scared1: Good thing I will be taking the other meds. They are going to basically microwave the inside of my vein to fix the problem. May be I should bring some popcorn:: Anyway if I post after 10pm tonight I will be under the influence so disregard anything I say.

Good luck, Roger.

I got a bad feeling about this......

Oh well....maybe when he's 50, he'll get to take a TOAL. ;)

Yeah, I booked a balcony (before the Tall Ship info) and I really want to keep it even though it is higher than the group rate.

Okay.....We are both finally back from the dead.:yay: John and I have not been that sick  in years.:sad2: :sad2: John missed two days of work last week and he had only missed 3 days for his 4 by-pass surgery. My adorable DGC must learn to keep their nasty little germs  to them selves!!:lmao: :lmao:

I have been catching up a little. I didn't realize how much this thread can move.

Glad you are both feeling better :flower3: :flower3:

These were with the total tax which is like 17%. Just a few dollars cheaper than the ARP rate.:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

It lists it as a 14.05% :scared1: . That is even higher than WDW resort tax.
