September 15th 2007 (Day 3)

Not quite so many photos today as it was a shopping day/supposed rest day (not the way I shop!) We went to iHop on Orange Blossom Trail for breakfast, I think a lot of the locals go to this one for breakfast at the weekend as it was quite busy but the service didn't suffer. The girl was really pleasant and very into my tattoos, something that was to become a pattern on this holiday. At home I just tend to get people giving me funny looks so actual questions about them is a bit of a novelty! I ordered cream cheese stuffed french toast (my favourite breakfast food in the world bar none, I can't go to the US and not have this it's simply not possible!) with strawberries on top, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns and sausage and Steve had chocolate chip pancakes with cream on top, scrambled eggs and hashbrowns which he liked so much that I gave him most of mine. With all the other food I had I was already stuffed! We waddled out and drove to Circuit City as Steve was looking for a camera battery but no luck there so we headed to the Florida Mall. After this is just kind of a blur of me spending most of my holiday money: Yankee, Torrid, Bare Escentuals, Old Navy, Macys, Dylans candy store and probably more all relieved me of my cash:

A woman on a mission in Torrid!

Steve got one of the new iPods from the Apple Store but didn't seem overly impressed with many of the other shops and only got a few other things. We stopped at Starbucks for a cinnamon dolce latte for Steve and a pumpkin spice latte for me, at $10 for 2 grande drinks I could get used to this!

Though they did spell my name wrong..

We decided to call it a day here and headed to the Festival Bay mall. More damage was done in Ron Jons, Vans, Hot Topic and Pacsun. This mall is a bit weird in my opinion, nice selection of stores but not nearly as popular as it probably needs to be to survive so I won't be entirely surprised if it closes down within a few years. It was a nice respite from the packed with weekend crowds Florida Mall though!
All the shopping had worn us out so we went back to the resort to freshen up and have a rest before our Jiko dinner ADR. We drove to Animal Kingdom Lodge, wow it's far away! I suppose to some people the isolation is the attraction but personally if I was paying for a deluxe resort i'd want a location that matched the price tag. Anyway, our ADR was at 8 and we were seated at 8:15. Steve was given a separate vegetarian menu and for starters we ordered the lentil pastilla (me) and kalamata olive flatbread (Steve) These were quite tasty but i'm sorry to say that neither of us could say the same for our main courses of tofu with grains (Steve) and Durban shrimp curry (me) We're both adventurous eaters but the combinations of flavours just didn't appeal to us at all. For dessert I had the pistachio creme brulee which I found quite sickly and Steve had the chocolate cheesecake which he found OK but wouldn't rave about. Quite a disappointing experience overall especially since this is supposed to be one of Disney's best restaurants, we felt the atmosphere was quite snooty and the food wasn't worth the price tag/2 dining plan credits. I know many others have enjoyed this restaurant and perhaps it was just an off night but it won't be an experience we'll be repeating when there are so many other Disney restaurants we have yet to try. After dinner we drove back to our resort and were in bed by 11:30pm.

Another fun read, but have to vote with the others who have said "What a shame about Jiko." I believe I've had some of the very best food I've ever eaten in the World (Disney) and the world (the rest of the planet) there at Jiko--but then vegetarian had nothing to do with my choices and I believe I always had beef the times I've been there. Quite understandable that you wouldn't want to risk wasting another meal in the future on a restaurant that disappointed you so. I'm just sorry that it let you down.

Pity about the meal.

I plan on spending a few nights at AKL on my next trip so that we can see the animals some more.

Cream cheese french toast sounds amazing, will put that on to the must-try list. Great shopping day, I love shopping in America, it's so cheap! I have to say that I felt the same way about Jiko - glad I wasn't the only one.
