VB I think is now my favorite DVC.
Okay this is how the chair holding works, if you put personal items on the chair they basically won't touch it. The 1hr rule not really enforced as I can see it. There are a couple of large groups that have a system worked out, they set up about a dozen plus chairs with shirts on and send someone out to chat up the cm every hour until about 10.

We talked to a CM and that's basically how they work it, We were the first VB owners she has met!

The boys love the beach, my eldest was even out jumping waves the other day.

I'll see ya all later, it's not so windy today so I'm not going to waste time on the computer.

We're here too! So glad it was sunny today- after the windy/cold weather yesterday!
The chair holding is getting on my nerves a bit but we come every Easter break so know what to expect. I got down to the pool at 8:30 and got one of the last chairs directly surrounding the pool!
We are having a great time - hope you are too Starr W.! Off to the campfire!:)

DH was down by 8:30am every morning to grab a table and lounge right behind the lifeguard. Must make some matching T-shirts to use to hold chairs(I am sure you know the group I am refering to:laughing: ).

We absolutely loved VB, we'll be staying for a full week next Easter. The wind kind of reminded us of home!:rotfl2: Monday we went up to Melbourne and saw the Tigers/Nationals game.

The boys loved the tv channel selection and so did I as they get SPEED! Caught the F1 replay.

Guess I'm not a redneck. Had to google F1 and Speed :lmao:

...but believe me, I do come from redneck, out in the sticks roots. Just don't pay attention to those silly cars that go around in circles.

Now the big decision... to chair hold ...or play it cool and grab what's available when we want. Last time we never chair held, but did go down early one day and started our day at the pool with table in the shade.

I don't usually have a problem with chair holding at VB because most of my time is spent on the beach, but at HHI they only have about 5 tables with umbrellas and if your'e not there by 7am you don't get one.

One morning I was cycling over to the pool and I could see this kid ahead of me with an arm full of towels heading for the pool too. I picked up my pace and blew by him and got the only table not yet "reserved." He ended up placing his reservations on lounges.

Did you say Sprint Cup? I'm a NASCAR geek myself, thank goodness the boys took Easter weekend off or I'd have been in the lobby with my computer with Trackpass on listening to Carl Edwards' scanner :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Or been dragged out to the pool with DH's radio.

I don't fit the profile either, got some strange looks at MIS last summer when we pulled in my Audi. Left the other more well known German import at home.

Typically, these people send their young ones down between 7 & 8 am to make reservations then they don't arrive until 10 am when the life guards go on duty. I've seen people block (I like that word) a table and not show up until after noon.

People frown at me, but I'm a HMS fan. Not real sure how I feel about DJ being on the team yet. The way things are going he may be their best bet this year.

DW thinks it is a bunch of silly cars going around in circles too. "What's the challenge in that?" I don't even try to explain any more. :sad2:

The problem I saw and mentioned to a CM this week at VB was you have those huge "family gatherings". The groups that send people down at pool rope drop or earlier and reserve with "personalized" t-shirts 20+ chairs, basically one whole area. If you saw any of this group, I think you might think a second before you moved their stuff. But when they did show up at about 10 they never left until the sun went down.

But it seems like the pool-chair-hogging issue surfaces every Spring Break. I wonder if it's the same couple of families - it certainly sounds like they have a "system" worked out.

A sidebar question...

Is there any sign of construction on the condos that were planned for next to VB? The end heading toward Vero (not toward the public beach)?

what i dont get is why the CM's dont police this nonesense at all the resorts. Sure its an unpleasant job, but its so rude! I don't care if within 20 mintues the family shows up and uses the chairs, but when they sit all day, and all the little kids are in the pool all day long, and they still hog the chairs, its annoying!

I can understand why the CM's give people a wide berth, we had some guy(who was much shorter than my DH) about start a fight with DH on our NWA flight down to FL. We were about to get bumped because of weight restrictions, getting all excited about 4 $300 dollar vouchers, when they decided too many kids, less weight, we can put you on the flight. They bumped one lady in 1st class(DH took that seat) and the kids and I were in a row of three. The guy was mad that myself and the 2 boys sat there and his family was split up 2 and 2. The NWA FA's went out and got a large male gate person who basically told him to sit down he was holding up the flight. We were about 15 minutes late leaving the gate.

I was really kind of ticked off with the "Soprano" family this week. They took over 20 chairs and very rarely were there 7 people there. On the first day, I took a chair near the pirate ship and soon realized that the spray from the ship drifts over the chairs and it was quite cold. We ended up getting tables in the very back for DMIL & DFIL.

when we were down on the beach, I wanted to get MIL a chair and there was one empty. I knew someone had already rented it and left so we set up there. This dude in front of us told me three times the chair had to be rented and we would be "penalized" if we did not rent it. I eventually went and paid the rental on it but was surprised at this man's actions.

I was very surprised by the number of jelly fish on the beach. the wind was extremely bad and the jellyfish were being blown into the beach.

On Thursday, my husband & I walked the beach and found a "nest" of crabs that a raccoon or something had gotten into. There had to be 150 to 200 crabs on the shore dead.

I really loved this vacation. We did a lot of the different activities down there and really slowed down. We own at Vero but this has only bee our second trip there. Our first trip was before the hurricans hit in 2004. Things have really changed.

I would like our next trip to be a little later in the year so that the weather might cooperate more but spring break is spring break.

If you are travelling back from FL to do take I95 north through SC. The construction traffice delayed us 4 hours and there was no way to get off.

Did you see some of the Soprano's, no wonder the CM's weren't going to say anything to them.:rotfl2:

The weather was okay for me, it sure beat Ohio, but am looking forward to next year when we'll be heading down 4/4. We've been at WDW in November and had long underwear on, and the next year in the pool every day.

We had a CM chase off some people who took our chairs and umbrella because I was a little late getting the boys down to the beach. Oliver, the CM was pretty diligent about remembering who had what chairs and would have the non-renters move. Wednesday we went down late and sat down and soon Oliver's helper came trotting over with his rental paperwork.

Guess we'll see you next year Missy! Our boys loved VB, surprisingly they were not afraid of the ocean, the eldest wants to get a boogie board next year.

I've seen the "Soprano" family here twice. It seems they show up around Easter annually. They actually had T-shirts that said "The Sopranos" (gun pic and all) and yes ....15-20 seats daily right in front of the pool. And yes....they were from New Jersey.

I don't have much patience with hoarders of pool chairs and I would be inclined to take move the stuff too. However, it's never come to that for us.
I'm not fussy about location and we find something, and I hope that luck lasts.

As far as what you can rent on the beach, if I remember there's a tent that can be rented, but I don't think it's large like a cabana. My DSis rents one for the shade it provides.

Our "all family" trip to VB is coming up in June, and I was thrilled to learn that the night turtle walks through the Caribbean Conservacy are offered on Monday nights and I signed 6 of the group for one of the walks!!! DH and I will stay behind to babysit and play card with another couple:goodvibes I'm not as agile on the sand in the day, it wouldn't work for me at night.

There is a building on the walkway to the beach(it has a name but I can't remember it). You can rent lounges, beach chairs, umbrellas and what Disney refers to as a cabana. The ones at VB are somewhat tent like, you they go all the way to the ground in the back.

Hi - we got back from VB on Saturday. We had a great time, but I was over the chair saving by the end of the week! There are 4 of us, but we get 2 lounge chairs, because the kids go back and forth from the different activities all day and we feel its unfair to take 3 or 4 chairs. Unfortunately, alot of people could care less how many they take for their family, which is the whole problem! I was told that people were coming down at 7:30 am and forming a line. I got down there at 8:05 am our last day and barely got 2 chairs around the pool! We had a great time anyway!:)

I have never posted here although I have read alot.

Here is how we do the chair thing when we go..I get up and wait until it opens..take phone down with paper and coffee.Get table with umbrella. Sit there and read. DW brings more coffee when I run out. DS gets up and they come down..

I sit under umbrella all day and swim once in a while. If I'm sitting there and someone asks..am I saving? I tell them no...I'm using the table. They usually get upset and move on.

I figure as long as I am sitting there....I have the right to be there. If you are just sitting your towel there and leaving...it's fair game

I agree. I usually give it about 45-60 minutes. If you don't show up by then the chair is mine. I usually try to find a side table or pile the stuff up on one chair. I don't mind people taking a quick dip, going to the restroom, or getting a quick bite to bring back to the table. But if you go to the beach, are going for a sit-down meal, or just saving the chair for a later time, I think it is rude and I will have no problem moving your things. I don't care if you are a Soprano and have a gun on your t-shirt.

I agree with the last two posters. Leaving stuff on chair/table for up to one hour is okay. Beyond that it's just rude. If we plan to leave for more than that time we give up the chair.

Secondly, I too, like to go down early and read while holding some chairs or table. We typically like to get to the pool early before it gets too hot. If someone is sitting using a chair or two I don't see the issue with that.

This post has made me glad that we go in January :rotfl: I am normally a moderately patient person but chair saving can drive me CRAZY:headache: I don't have a problem with putting a towel/shirt on a chair if you are planning on being there within the hour but we have seen chairs 'reserved' for hours. Our other pet peeve is when people are done with the chairs but leave their dirty towels all over them. People looking for chairs don't know if they are available or not. Is it that hard to put your used towels in the bin? : :confused3

We are at Vero this week and for the last two nights there was an automated message on phone stating that saving pool chairs will not be allowed and if CM finds chairs not being utilized after an hour the stuff will be brought to Lost and Found. Let's just hope they enforce it:thumbsup2

I did notice yesterday that there were chairs available by the pool. We go to the beach so the pool thing is not an issue with us.
