Me and my friends got in a discussion today about songs that have been redone by new bands.
For example:
Surrender has been done by both Cheap Trick and Less Than Jake.
Well...
I was getting yelled at because I think the New Found Glory version of Kiss Me is better than the old one.
But whatever.
Soo...
What are some other reamkes or covers that you either like or dislike?
Just wondering.

I like:
Bold As Love, covered by John Mayer (But I like the original by Jimi Hendrix just as much)
I'll add more later xD

Big Yellow Taxi. I prefer the remake. I HATE THE ORIGINAL. Mainly because the person who sings the original, has the most annoying voice I've ever heard. That'd be Joni Mitchell. I prefer the Counting Crows version

My favorite cover EVER is I Love How You Love Me by Neutral Milk Hotel (Phil Spector cover). SUCH a good cover by a phenomenal band.
I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Amy Millan (Death Cab for Cutie cover)
Crazy In Love by Mickey Harte (Beyonce cover)
Overkill by Dashboard Confessional (Colin Hay cover)
Melt With You by Saves The Day (Modern English cover)
Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana was completely ruined when Evanescence remade it.
Any remake of a Beatles song I usually don't like. I hated Across the Universe, it seems people are finally starting to like the Beatles just because of some silly movie.

Across the Universe WAS BAD.
It was like the entire time they were filming it, they were on acid. If I had watched the entire thing (yes it was that bad, I had to turn it off), I probably would have had nightmares.
And no one can sing the Beatles and do better. You just can't.

I totally agree!
To enjoy the movie I swear you need to be tripping to enjoy that movie.

It was so horrendous. One of the worst movies ever. I'm so glad I didn't pay to go to the movies to see it -.-
What A Wonderful World. I prefer the Michael Buble version.

I like With a little help from my friends by Joe Cocker better than The Beatles version.
I also like Joe Cocker's version of Feelin' Alright better than Traffic's.
I loved Across the Universe :upsidedow. I didn't like many of the remakes in that, but I loved T.V. Carpio's version of I want to hold your hand.

Ohhhhh!
Let Go is originally from a movie. It's sung by Frou Frou [?] However, I don't like this one at all..it's very...soft, kind of techno-y.
I LOVE the Let Go by Boys Like Girls; it's actually my favorite song.

Breaking Benjamin scares me a bit.
I don't mind their music... I find it catchy (Which is weird..) but .. the actual lyrics scare me.

Israel Kamakawiwo'ole did a wonderful version of that song.
My mind is totally blanking right now for covered songs I have an opinion of, except for BBMak's version of 'Always Know Where You Are', which just isn't as good as Jhon Rzeznik's. (It's the vocals.) I might have to post here again when my brain is working...

I love the Jonas Brothers cover of "Take On Me" by Ah-Ha.
Ah-Ha's version is high-pitched and annoying :/
And I loved Across the Universe.
I like the Beatles, but I also liked the remakes of the songs.
They're both good if you look at them separately.

OMG HERETIC. http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies/mad.gif

But seriously, I'm not one to talk. I think that Leonard Nimoy's versions of 'Abraham, Martin, and John,' 'Gentle On My Mind,' 'I Walk the Line,' and a few others better than the original singers. (Probably because I heard these versions first. I'm obviously biased.)

Can't believe I didn't think of this before, but Eva Cassidy's 'Fields of Gold' is *gorgeous*, hands down one of my all-time favorite covers because it's just so darned beautiful. And it's especially nice because with a lot of covers, I feel biased towards one or the other because I heard it first, but even though I heard the original Sting version of the song and fell in love with the song long before finding Eva Cassidy's, I love them both about equally, and find each version as moving and emotional as the other. The song is just amazing.
