I am new to the boards. I have been lurking and reading some here and there. We are planning a trip sometime in late August before school starts.
I am wondering about the dining plan. Different views on it would be appreciated. It is worth it to purchase? I also heard that there are some fast food places outside the gates, Is that true? Are they pricey?
Thanks so much

:welcome: If you are a family who likes to take time to do sit down restaurants, the the dining plan might be a good idea for you. For us, we don't do a lot of sit downs and we don't like needing to be tied down for those ADRs so we don't take advantage of it. As for fast food away from Disney grounds, can't help you there, sorry.

this is one of those questions that gets asked alot and there is no simple answer... in effect, you have to get out a calculator and do the math to see if it is a value. DDP can only be purchased as part of a package staying onsite at WDW resorts, there are different levels of DDP.
i get DDP for my trips as i know how to use it, it does save some cost, and it helps with budgeting.

Good points!!
The DDP tends to be a great deal for families with kids approaching 10 years old-- it would be hard to feed a child of that age for $10 per day anywhere, especially in Disney. For some kids just over 10, it's not as good a deal, since they sometimes don't eat enough to justify the $40 per day price tag. As wildeoscar mentioned, you really need to take out a calculator, hit the menus at www.allears.net, and do the math for your own family.
This may help with some of your other planning: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1715551
