Is the weather in Jan. warm enough to swim and snorkle at the beach? Or do we need to settle for heated pools(are the pools heated?

Depends on where you're wondering about. If you're wondering about St Maarten, St Thomas/St John, Grand Cayman, or Cozumel, the water will definitely be warm enough. If you're wondering about Nassau, Key West, or Castaway Cay, it may be a bit chilly depending on your standards of what's too cold. If you're from north of the Mason-Dixon line, you'll probably enjoy it.
