I know this is such a newbie question :rolleyes1 so I apologize in advance (it's our first trip) ...

When I check into our resort (Pop), can I give the front counter the cash I've saved up for tipping (we're doing dxdp) and then give the server our room key and have the tip taken off of that? Is that right?

I just want to make sure. I really don't want a credit card tied to the room (I know, I'm paranoid), but I was thinking that it would be nice to be able to do everything with the room card and not have to walk around with cash, kwim?

TIA! :flower3:

TIA! :flower3:No you can use a Debit Card (if you're scared of the CC that's just as bad)

But not cash.

Oh, really? So I can't give the front desk cash to put on my room key, only debit or credit?

Ah, well. Thanks for answering. Knowing is half the battle! :)

You can add your debit card or credit card and every afternoon go to the concierge and pay your balance in cash. But they sometimes double charge when you do that on accident.

You can just pay the tips in cash at the restaraunt.

Part of my fear is mischarging. And then I also want to keep our vacation money completely separate from everything else and keep it as prepaid as possible, kwim? I think I'll take someone's idea of putting cash in an envelope for each day we're there and carrying that. That was my original plan, but then someone IRL told me I could put cash on the room key. I figured that if anyone knew, it'd be the folks on the dis!

I put cash on my room charge last year. It took a few minutes for the CM to figure out how to do it b/c of changes in the system, but I was able to put cash on my room card and charges were deducted from that amount. I got a print out a couple of times to double check any charges on the account and other than a mysterious call (that they deducted) everything was fine.

We put cash on the room recently at OKW. We had a coupld of friends traveling with us and the cash was placed on the room in the form of a "credit" and then she used the KTTW card like normal. We got a print out a couple of days to make sure that they were posting charges correctly and everything was fine.

We just asked the frond desk CM if we could do it this way. My friend had brought cash for her misc. expenses so we just put it against the room account so that she did not carry it around with her. The CM was not perplexed and it took only a few minutes to do. She printed us a folio which showed a credit on the account and then the charges "ate" that credit during our stay.

This is also done (sometimes) when a guest cancels a portion of a room only ressie. I recently needed to cancel 2 nights off of a friends Pop ressie. There was the option of crediting the funds back to her credit card or placing a credit on her room account. Now that credit would have come froma credit card source but at the time of the credit it was treated as "cash".

The other option is to put a credit card number on file and then go pay your room charges each night, before midnight, with cash. That way nothing is charged to your card. But, if you are worried about giving a credit card number to the desk then this option will not help you.

Hope this helps.

So can you use your room key for tips? We very rarely carry cash in the parks and this is our first trip on the dining plan.

Yes you can, but be prepared for about 1000 pieces of paper with each check. I am just kidding but it does seriously print about 8 receipts when you use DDP and room charge for tips. Add the use of the DDE card and you get about 12 slips of paper. Such a waste of paper!!:sad2:

We also leave cash upon check in rather than a credit card. This way I know we are only using our 'vacation money' and we can't dip into our regular funds. You may need to ask for a manager to handle this for you though. I've been checked in by a CM who had no problems with it all, knew what I was talking about and took it in stride. Others looked very confused and called over a manager. It can be done, just be patient with the CM at check in !

How about buying a gift card or pre-paid credit card and using that instead?
