Hello everyone!
For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!
New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Saturday, I cross trained with Princess #1. Jumped in the ocean, biked, and ran through Ala Moana Beach park. Here's how our day ended.

Sunday , I will go out early before the clinic and do 2 miles. Then I will help lead out the intermediate group for another 6 miles, for a total of 8.
Hoppy Easter everyone!

Happy Easter WISHers!
Nothing much to report. Got in three runs and a weight lifting session last week.
Yesterday Marilyn and I spent the day at the shooting range so she could finish up her shooter safety class requirement. I bought her a Walther P22 .22 cal semi-auto pistol to carry. The class is required so she can apply for her concealed weapon permit. Had a great time. She shot better than I did.
Heading to Orlando in a couple of hours on business. Probably no WDW this time around since this was a very short notice event.
Y'all take care.

Happy Easter Wish Buddies! I hope everyone has a great day!
Hmmmm, Mouse Skywalker--the name is vaguely familiar.......;) Glad to "see" you again Dave! Hope the training goes good for Cleveland
Jeff--ya gotta stop it with the pics;) Not that I'm at all jealous or anything
No training for me this weekend. As fun as Zumba was, my thighs have been screaming since Thursday--thought my legs were strongs, guess not as much as I'd hoped. Anyway, that coupled with full blown allergy heck right now, not pushing the old bones right now.

Mornin' Wish buddies! It's a sunny but blustery 30 degrees in MA this morning. Makes ya really think it's spring. Oh yeah.
Jeff: I so love the pictures you post but they are so unhealthy for me to look at especially when it's like this outside. It LOOKS like it should be warm and wonderful but it's not! Hope the clinic goes well.
Dave: where ya been lately? Hope you are well. Sorry to hear about the extra moisture. Please do NOT send it our way. I'm done shovelling snow for the season. Period.
Big Vic: it's just not right that you are on your way to Orlando without planning any WDW time. Too bad but hope the trip is uneventful. I'm not much for shooting, but I did have a chance to fire a flintlock and a percussion cap rifle. I ended up with some powder burns on my neck but I never felt it. Really strange to fire those things.
Stephanie: what is Zumba?
Hope everyone has a great day!

Thanks for the sunset pic. One of our dreams is to retire to the islands. Martha's job is to sit on the lanai and enjoy the sunset. My job is an inter-island pilot. Seeing your photos is pure motivation.
Jen
Congratulations and amazement on carrying the new arrival 39.3 miles.
Vic
You weren't kidding that every business meeting is in Orlando. That's a long drive to just sit in a conference room. Congrats to Marilyn on her accuracy with the new Walther.
MSW Dave
It's nice to see you. I hope you and your family are well and warm today.
I had great plans for my running yesterday, and they fell flat. I was tired before even starting, and the outcome wasn't pretty. I planned for 6 miles on a easy, hard sequence, but didn't make it. The esy miles were terrible, and the 2 hard miles were really terrible, so after 4.75 I declared victory and stepped off the track. With Minnie only 42 days away I need a few successful hard/tempo workouts if I'm going to make my goal.
Warning: Completely off-topic soccer talk for Debra:
So, your Dood is a Friedl man? This has been the major discussion in the USMNT discussion boards for years, as I am a Keller guy. Both are great keepers, and have had great club and country careers. Friedl is taller and has arms so long they look silly. Friedl is also better with his feet and is better in distribution. Keller is a far better pure shot blocker, and he is much more aggressive off his line. Plus I admire Keller for being the first American to break into England, and doesn't have that silly English accent. Everytime I listen to Friedl I have to giggle, since he grew up in Ohio.
My preference for Kasey is due to his willingness to come off his line. During my College years, playing with my summer club I played sweeper, and I figured any balls played over my head which I couldn't run down were my keeper's. Nothing frustrated me more than to see a ball I couldn't catch and see my keeper nailed to the goal line, leaving 20 meters of space for the striker to run on to. Keller is quick off his line, and sometimes Friedl stays on his line, relying on his size and amazing reach to cover the goal.
This discussion is pretty moot now, since Friedl had retired from the NATS and Keller will see limited spot duty. The #1 job is Tim Howard's, appropriately, as he's at the top of his game and is playing as well as any keeper in the EPL. It is a great source of pride that 4 keepers in the EPL are Yanks, and any of the 4 are clearly better than the English keepers in the league. Now if we could only develop a new generation of strikers and attacking central midfielders.
Good egg-hunting everyone. Plus you have my permission to eat all the chocolate bunnies and eggs you like. Calories don't count today.

Morning folks! Happy Easter!
Yesterday I had an amazing run, which for me, those have been few and far between lately. I ran with another lady and we finished up 7.4 miles in an 11:10 pace. Our pace was consistent the entire way and this was my longest run since the Goofy. No shin pain on the entire run! It is supposed to be sunny with a high of 50 deg today so I'm hoping to get another run in today because I have been slacking lately.....
Krista and Steve - Congratulations on your baby boy!
Jen in GA - I cannot believe you ran the Goofy while pregnant!! Congratulations on your impending little arrivial. I'm looking forward to seeing you at the Minnie.
Aloha Jeff - What an amazing picture. Thanks for sharing!
Debra - Ah, running skirts....yes I may own about 20 or so of them. Most of them are the Skirt Sports brand, but those are no longer my favorite since I discovered RunningSkirts.com. RS.com only have briefs underneath, but they still cover well and they are so much more comfortable. No tugging down of shorts underneath! I have a couple NB ones too, but I really don't care for them.
Okay folks, time for me to get some house cleaning done so I can get some exercise in before going to my brother and sister-in-laws for dinner tonight. Have a great day everyone!

Happy Easter, Wish team!!!!!!!!!!!
We're getting ready to head over to my parents for Easter dinner, but I wanted to share a couple of pictures of the baby. (Sorry for boring those who really could care less. ;) ) We are naming the baby Carter Stephen, Carter after my grandpa and Stephen after well, Stephen. :)
This picture is a profile of the baby's face.

This one is his spine at the top of the picture, feet to the left and head to the right.
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j25/krista_fulkerson/DSC02031.jpg
And this one I *think* is the top of his head to the left and then his body all curled up and his feet to the right. But I really have no clue. :)

Martha--Zumba is a group aerobics/fitness class. It's based on latin and hip hop music. I posted a couple days ago, I felt like I should be drinking a margarita instead of doing squats. It's like a party in the fitness room! Lots of fun and a good chance to relax and laugh at yourself!;)

Dave asked I post this here to garner support for the relaxation of the TOT time cut off.
We will be at the ING ATlanta marathon, doing the 1/2, and Disney folks are supposed to be at the EXPO. We will make it a point to tell them our thoughts, concerns and the concerns of others reference this issue, sooo if ya are at any other race be it Disney or other, Tell the Disney folks at the Expo your thoughts, It couldn't hurt. Hey bing a couple of changes of clothes, sunglasses etc and change them several times and go back and tell then again and again.
I woould hate to have folsk miss out for fear of not making the time cut.

Congrats Krista love the pics. Technology can be marvelous! :goodvibes
Mike - WTG on your run, you should do great at your 1/2 Tri :cheer2:
I did my 9 miler, it actually turned into 9.8 because I misjudged my turnaround point. It's my longest to date! My overall pace was 14.3, slow compared to many here, but I felt good about it. Now, I know for sure I can finish the Minnie 15K and not get swept. Wahoo! I have all of you to thank, without the support on these boards I would have talked myself out of the whole race thing. :thanks:

HI Team  HAPPY EASTER!!!
Krista: OMG...how cool of you to share your ultrasound photos! What an exciting time for you both. :goodvibes
SamSam: WOW...GREAT run :). You have to just be SO proud of yourself. That distance is really a huge accomplishment. WTG!
Mike: NICE run! Very good pace for 6.3 :) Seems to me you can't be too out of shape!!!
Today was my scheduled 8 mile LR. The weather was blustery and cold. UGH! WHERE IS SPRING??? OK...'nuff of that rant. Aside from that the run hurt from the first step. Just wasn't a good run...felt like I was trying to power through each mile :(. My Chi Running principles went down the tubes and I was just not able to get into a comfortable rhythm. The first three miles were quick (for me) at sub 27 minutes but it still just felt really wonky. My shins hurt, my calves hurt, my feet hurt...you get the idea :(. Anyway....I scrapped the 8 miler and turned around at 3.2 and headed back. I managed to finish 6 TOUGH miles in 55:30 which on paper is a perfectly fine Sunday run. But wow...did it HURT! I'm just glad it wasn't a truly LONG LR day. And training for the Minnie gives me lots of wiggle room if I can't make the week's mileage. Thankfully. I hope everyone had a great day! Take care and happy training!

Good Evening all!
So I did my longest yet today... 5 miles! I did a run/walk and walked more than I liked, but my Garmin kept beeping telling me my heart rate was too high so DH made me walk when it did that. It averaged 177 bpm and maxed out at 187 bpm. My pace was super slow... 14:43 average to be exact. I think someone posted not being hydrated enough may cause your HR to be to high, so I'm hoping that's it...
Hope everyone has had a lovely Sunday!!!
Krista...Thanks for sharing the pics!!!

Hey WISHERS...
Good job on the training to all those who got out there this weekend.
I went out for a 2 mile warm up before the clinic. I got back and listened to the Doc's talk, then led 16 people out for a 8 mile run. We kept at steady 9:30 per mile pace, and everyone made it back with a smile, or forced smile on their face. 10 miles total for me, and it felt good to stretch the legs.
Questions arose from the group about whether or not to eat before a run, speed work, and hill work. Also what to drink after running (Gatorade or Chocolate milk). I answered based on my previous years of training techniques that has gotten me through races.
We went for a test drive yesterday, and ended up signing on the bottom line for a new truck. It was time to trade in the family van. I pick up the new wheels on Wednesday (by the way, it's Prince Kuhio day, another Hawaii holiday for us).
Our tech/tshirt/hat supplier came out with a green tech hat, not quite WISH green. I was tempted to buy it, but my Queen would have frowned upon yet another hat to wash. LOL. :rotfl:

Christa: Yeah on that pace!! :thumbsup2 Take it easy with the tapering off or we'll have to do something drastic!!
SamSam: You go girl!!! I am sooooo excited for you!! You are going to make it, I can't wait to see you cross the finish line!! 14.3 pace is great for the distance and everything. I did a 14.3 today doing a 5mile LW (long walk). (I was concentrating on form and arms movement from my lesson I had) You can only get better from here. Its great you have that under your belt. :yay:

Krista - Thanks for sharing your US photos with us. We don't mind you sharing at all. I  living vicariously through you. My baby days are long gone, so I love hearing all about it. Love the name Carter Stephen too.
Stacie - yes, someone responded to me that dehydration may have been my problem with my too high heart rate. I learned today that if I run more than 45-50 minutes, I should bring water with me. Hope you can get that regulated soon. 5 miles is HARD, isn't it! :scared1:
Have a great week WISHers!!!!

Pray for my family while I taper...you know I don't do well with tapering.
yes, it is a 1/2 IM...the training plan said that you should have a couple sprint/olympic distances under your belt, but I did a full duathlon (5mi run, 40 mi bike, 5 mi run) last summer on a REALLY hot day (but the 20 mph wind in your face for all 40 miles made up for it) in JUST over 4 hours...I missed my goal by about 15 seconds since I cramped in transition 2 and lost 3 minutes
Anyway I figured that since every triathlete there said that tri's were easier than duathlons, I should jump in with a huge goal (at least it's huge for me!) I've always worked hard, but no one has ever accused me of being too smart...:lmao:
Good LORD, 7:35 pace for 4 miles; I managed my first mile in about 7:40, but every step was one I wished was the last...I think I overdressed for the weather (30 degrees and windy), and sweat was just pouring off me. Frankly, I don't know what I could have worn differently, I had on an UnderArmor Cold long sleeve top, a cotton long sleeve shirt, underarmor full length underwear and running shorts....
Sometimes, it seems like you just need to gut out the run...thats what today was...and I STILL have about 30 hours off...Double tumbler of Dewar's Scotch anyone?:)
Where is your Tri on Sat?

Debra - Thanks for the Easter wishes! You were very creative with all of the team threads doo...a virtual spewing of creativity...and yay! no shin pain for you on your run. Nice work!
AlohaJeff - Congrats on the truck! Sorry to see the weather and scenery has been so nasty out there..really hoping that some clear days and beautiful sunsets find their ways to you soon. :rotfl:
Dave - Nice to see you on the thread? How is the training coming along? I know you were battling through some injuries...let us know!
Big Vic - While I don't know much about the guns...I do know that three runs and some weight work constitutes a good week!
Stephanie - GL with the allergies. I think anything we do differently than normal affects muscles we don't usually use...hope you are feeling better!
Craig - Sorry to hear about the run...at least you got some steps in though. Shake it off and move on to the next one :) Hopefully there is no more wallpapering in your future!
Shan - Feeling any better?
Sam - Great pace on the walk!! You will do just fine at the Minnie!
Krista - Thanks for sharing the photos!! What a great little bunny..er..boy you have there! And keep the posts about you...we like hearing how you are doing :goodvibes:
Stacie - 5 miles..awesome!! Don't worry about the pace...and don't stress over the HR. You'll see it come down as you continue to work out.
Krista - 7:35...holy smokes!! Niiiiccee run!
Mike - Ditto... Nice run!!
Betsy - Urban Dare...HOW COOL!! Would LOVE to read a RR from you in regards to it. Hey AMY..Urban Dare...*nudge*
Jeff - You are supposed to run BEFORE the chocolate :)
Amy - Well after some nice tempo and weekly runs, it was bound to happen that the aches and pains would spoil a LR. Great pace though, even through the cold and windy day. I hope you recover well (EASY on the pilates tomorrow, buddy) and that the upcoming week is a good one for you. I'm off to go find us an Urban Dare to run (oh look...there's one in Atlanta *nudge*)...
Scott's World - Well, I had a very productive weekend. I PR'd my 5k on Saturday morning by finishing with a 23:46. It was a solid run for me and I was most proud of not walking for the entire thing...a first in my book. A few hours after the race, I completed 20 miles on the bike in just under 70 minutes. This morning I got out in the chillier than normal temps and logged an 8 mile long run. My legs definitely felt the Saturday activity, but the tighness seemed to ease up about 3 miles into the run.
I hope everyone had a great weekend and best WISHes for the week ahead!

Happy Easter WISH Team. I've got my work cut out for me tomorrow. I really over did my eating. I knew it would be a lost day. Hopefully tomorrow I can put in some steps to offset it a bit.
Jeff, I do love your pics.
Krista and Steve, I love your little boy pics! I know that was a fantastic experience.
SamSam, great pace for the first time at that distance! Faster than me for sure!
Stacie, good job staying on target with yor HR and good pace too! Don't worry, your pace will pick up in time, just keep at it.
Christa, praying for yor family, you know you can come here too since you'll be in taper madness. You'll have more time maybe for your WISH Team family. We'll take the heat off the family.
I thought you might enjoy what we woke up to on Saturday.
We got about 7 inches of beautiful snow. (I can say beautiful since I was able to stay indoors and enjoy the view.)

Catching up from last week:
Krista adn Steve - COngratulations!!!!
Allie - I usually don't take any extra "food" (usually Gu) until I do more than 6 miles, tehn I take it about every 4 miles (or every 45 min). However, it would have helped you, as you went out on empty. Congrats on teh 5-miler. That most certainly is a long run adn you should be proud!
Lynnda- Good plan on the training. Hoep that PF gets banished for good! :wizard:
So, we were supposed to do ur LR Friday, but had 4 or 5 inches of snow on top of ice, so it was a no go. We both have stuffy heads still, so indoors is extra hard. We got home around 5 yesterdya and went out a little after 6. It was suppoed to be an 8-miler, although we had only done 2.5 run adn 2.5 walk for our 10. We decided we'd see how we feel and do no more than 8 , as it had been over a week since we last tried to run. First 2 miles were iffy. I think I was afraid I had lost a lot of strength. After that, though, I loosened up. We did 8 and my pace was only about 13 seconds slower than a few weeks ago when I had a great 8-miler. Plus, I was on neg splits mostly after mile 2, with a super speedy (for me) last mile. 10:40!!!! I was thrilled. A little tired today, but not bad. I'll run again tonight adn that will help me feel ready for Martian in 2 weeks.

GOOD MORNING TEAM & HAPPY BELATED EASTER!!!!
Sorry I went missing again.. But the good news is that while I was missing I got soooooo much done around my house (I was off work on Friday) so I don't feel quite as overwhelmed as I have for a long time.
Anyway on the training front, I did my long run Friday evening because I was not going to have time the rest of the weekend. I am STILL not where I want to be, I did 8.3 miles in 83 minutes.
Sorry I am so behind again but I do want to say:
JeninGA CONGRATULATIONS!!! FROM YOU WISH TEAM!!
Krista&SteveCONGRATULATIONS!!!! BOYS ROCK!!! I HAVE 2 AND LOVE THEM TO DEATH.
OK have to get to work, be back later.

Greetings Race Team -
Guess what??? I did my "Coming Out of Hibernation Run" on Saturday and did it ever feel good!!! I did five miles in the sunshine and all things considered, my splits weren't that bad. :woohoo: It felt so good to be MOOOOVING!!! Oh yeah! I need more asphalt time! Yay!! :cool1:
MSDave -
Krista and Steve - Oh my goodness, how exciting! :yay: I am so happy for you guys! Carter Stephen is a wonderful name! I know you would have gone with Judith Anne if things were different. Maybe next time. Hee hee. Oh and stop it now! You're a WONDERFUL team member and we love you guys! Can't you tell????
Aloha Jeff - Thanks for the info. :thumbsup2 My geography of the islands is very limited since I was your typical tourist and only went to Oahu. Very cool pics!!
Vic - I have a concealed weapon....Oops, can't talk about that here. :upsidedow
OMG Christa is tapering! Everybody! Run! Ha ha ha! :lmao: Just teasing you Christa! I'm so happy to see you here!

Dh has decided that he and I will run the Animal Kingdom Adventure Race for our anniversary! I am SO excited. I had been afraid to even ask if he wanted to do it since we are going to Disney for a week at Thanksgiving and then I am going back for Goofy. Dh and I had this whole HUGE "discussion" about how I can't just sign up for races without thinking about the additional costs (airfare, hotels etc.) I told him all about it and he was like "no more races this year."
Then a running buddy of mine told Dh that he and his wife were going to do the adventure race. DH had the nerve to act like he had never heard of it. Anyway, my buddy really sold the idea to dh and so I am signing us up.

Good morning WISHers.
Today we can officially blame anything we want to on the Tag Fairy. Skunky workout, yep, tag fairy's fault. Traffic on the way home today, yep, Tag Fairy did it.
Lily you have liquid sunshine? It's spring right? You are only a few hundred miles north of us.
Everyone have a wonderful day

Hello Team!
We have typical Chicago weather this week. Was sunny earlier, now cloudy and 37; tomorrow 52 w/rain then dropping back off again. On the plus side, temps are definitely coming into the more outside than inside LWs. YAY!
Got a whopping 4 hrs of sleep last night so canceled personal trainer and will get out for a walk instead. Just don't think by the time 5p rolls around I'll be up to his work out. Nap yes, hour of weight/core, not so much.:sad2:
Hope everyone's week is off to a good start!

Hey WISHers!
Thanks for the name suggestions! I forgot to mention we are working with Smith. So while I think Miles is very cool, if the kid has a lisp, it might be trouble... I like Max and Mary too... And for those of you impressed about my running Goofy, don't be. It was really, really early. I truly didn't know. Within about a week I was feeling kind of queasy- it would have been much harder.
Krista- love the name choice! I totally asked my doctor "what am I going to do with a boy?!" about five minutes after I had Harry, but he's great. (Except at Easter brunch, when he was horrible, but still...)
Lily- your snow is freaking me out! I was in shorts and a t-shirt at the beach yesterday. But, it is supposed to get down to freezing tonight. My obsessions focus on Disney and running; DH is obsessed with growing vegetables/fruit in our yard. He has lemon and orange trees, blueberry bushes, potatoes, tomatoes, etc. all of which will have to be covered. Last time it froze, he hooked a space heater up to extension cords for the lemon tree. And don't get me started on how long it took to wash every extra sheet in the house that had been covering plants... (And yes, we always have to make a pilgrimage to The Land at Epcot, which my DD calls the "most boring ride EVER.")
Cecilia- so when DH was acting like he'd never heard of the Adventure Run but that he might want to go, were you dying trying not to laugh?
Angie- don't forget how miserable you were just a few months ago! Sure, you might like to be faster, but I think going 8.3 miles in 83 minutes is tremendous!
Allie- 5 miles is totally a long run. Congratulations!
Afraid I must confront my desk again. Have a good week everyone!

Aloha Jeff: Great pictures, as usual. What an inspiration you and your princess(es) have to to train! :) And yeah, a 10 miler is a leg stretcher. Maybe for you... :rotfl: I think it's great your clinic has you as a go-to nutrition guy, btw. Did you tell them about the Thin Mints secret to training?
MS Dave: But those of with snow and rain, we really appreciate our good days, right? ;)
Vic: So we need to called your DW Eagle-Eyed Marilyn, huh? No way I'm ever challenging either one of you to a duel!
Stephanie: That's interesting about the Zumba-thigh soreness. I KNOW my legs are weak, large but weak, so that's another point in Zumba's favor for me. Hopefully this summer... I hope your allergies subside.
Martha: Yea for some sunshine your way. I just know that lifts the spirits.
MORE FOOTBALL DIGRESSIONS!
Craig: You have much to teach this grasshopper about the ins and outs of soccer! :upsidedow I like how you can explain your position as a fan and (former?) player. It sounds like you prefer your players kinda like the image I have of you as a runner--fairly aggressive & willing to take risks for improved performance. (I mean that as a compliment.) I tend to agree with your assessment about American vs. English goalkeepers--just out of curiosity, though, who would you claim is the best keeper in EPL. Lots of people, myself included, like Petr Cech...but I've never played, so I'm subject to the whims of sportcasters & the like; plus DOOD has been a long-time Chelsea fan from his undergrad day, so I follow along. (And the whole question of your fantasy football team is another story.)
Now, I return us to the thread details...
Tracy: Wow, what a great 5-mile hop of your own!!!
Leanna: Thanks for the link to RunningSkirts.com. Ever since Ohana raised the idea of skirts I've been playing with them. I tend to like men's shorts, but am open to having my eyes opened.
Krista: Thanks so much for sharing the pictures of your baby boy. I love the name Carter Stephen & what a tribute to your grandpa. :goodvibes
Mike: I think your pace is just plain excellent! You're going to rock that 1/2 Tri!!
Scott H: Thanks so much for talking to Disney at the ING Expo regarding the ToT event. And the idea of repeated visits, "man of a 1000 faces-style," is brilliant!
SamSam: I'm so glad your unexpected mileage increase turned out so well. And it's great knowing you're ready for the Minnie--you must be so excited.
Amy: I'm so sorry to hear about your tough run. If it's any consolation, I absolutely think you did the right thing by turning around. And you should know, you're not alone (see below) so I feel your disappointment. But you're right--you've got wiggle room.
Stacie: Yay :yay: on your longest LR yet. I'm glad you have your DH to look after you, and that you're taking the hydration issue to heart. I'm sure it will help you with your HR.
Christa: Pray for your family while you're tapering. Sure! But do you mind if I also put in a few words for Ohana??? :rotfl2: You're gonna do great on your Tri--the signs are all in your log. :thumbsup2
Kristi: I think Craig's no-counting calories advice was very sage. :rolleyes1
Betsy: You are an Iron warrior you are--the plane ride must have been exhausting, let alone the Urban Dare (intellectually as well as physically). Congrats on your standing, and I was excited to learn there's one in Pittsburgh this year. I just sent the link to DOOD, hoping we can sign up next year. (And wouldn't it be cool to have a WISH private Dare function?) I'm definitely waiting for the RR.
Jeff: Chocolate or Running, Running or Chocolate? Hmmmm. :scratchin For me, one fuels the other--and I'm not saying which!
Scott: Woo Hoo on the PR! I knew you could do it. And productive--that's an understatement--a PR, a bike ride, AND an 8-mile run. Hey, I bet you're one of those Energizer Bunnies, are you?
Lily: You've been doing so well with everything, I just know your Easter indulgence won't have affected you too much. Just gives you the motivation to go a LITTLE farther today. :goodvibes
Carrie: That's great news on the 8-miler & negative splits! You're on a roll, and what a confidence booster. It shows what kind of running foundation you've built.
Angie: I'm just so glad you keep posting, keeping us to date with your progress. (And I think you're doing well--remember, I think you're IronGirl!) Hopefully that extra day off work will keep some of the stress at bay.
Judy: I can feel your excitement of your "Coming Out of Hibernation" emanating from my screen! I hope your days are paved with asphalt from here on out!
Cecilia: :cool1: for you and your DH! I think it's a great way to celebrate an anniversary--and that it was your DH's idea (via your running buddy and, of course, you) makes it even better.
Dave: Darn the Tag Fairy, then! I officially withhold my affections until the Tag Fairy recognizes my efforts.
Liz: I hope you get some much-needed rest. I couldn't function on 4 hours of sleep in terms of semi-intelligent conversation, let alone a session with a trainer.
Jen in GA: Smith? I like it. (Not that my opinion counts, just saying. :) ) I think I'll continue to be impressed by your Goofy performance, though. Especially as you were running for two & left me in the dust! :worship:
As for me: Crappy, crappy day. I had no energy for my run, and I bagged it after 2.75 miles when I should have done closer to 4.50. No pain, no problems with the knees/shins/feet/new shoes, just absolutely no energy. I had a good night's sleep, I thought, and had eaten well both the day before & this morning. I'm not feeling sick. So what gives? :confused3
Anyway, my form was really suffering & I was doing more harm than good, so I stopped. I cooled down with some walking/form drills & then called it a day. And I'm kicking myself for not manning up, and am now trying to resist the ice cream in the freezer. Oh well, I can't look back without getting an uncomfortable crick in my neck, so I guess I better look forward.

Look at me...2 posts and I am even keeping up...look what a good taper can do for a person.....
Betsy - That Urbandare sounds wonderful. WTG on that great finish and placing. You had a crazy weekend!
Mike - a 1/2 IM! I am so excited for you. You will do great. My tri is in Huntersville (outside of Charlotte, NC) and is only a sprint. I am planning on a longer one (International dist...called Over The Mountain in May). I love the tri....Good luck...when is yours again?
Scott! You are my HERO! A 23:46 5k...I just cannot get under 24...I really don't do to many though...Then you biked 20 miles then ran 8 the day after...WOW! OUT OF CONTROL! You are my hero! Are you training for a tri?
Snow Lily! What beautiful pics!
Carrie congrats on the 8 miles even though you ddi not feel like doing it.
Judy! WTG on your coming out run....Glad to be back too.
Debra - there must have been something in the air..my run was aweful today too. So sorry!
About me...my run was crappy today too...I have a little cold trying to creep in on me so I was trying to keep the run slow...I did 6 miles but fought it the whole way....my pace ave was 9:25....WOW! Haven't seen that # running by myself in a long time.

Debra, sorry about your stonker run. Smart you are though to know when it toss it for another day. Hope you get energized tomorrow.
Christa, sorry about your stonker run. I guess your taper is really going fast.
Cecilia, seems like you have been given the "key" for getting DH to do what you want. Use a "plant" and have them get him to think is was his idea!
:thumbsup2
Liz, hope you get some sleep.
Carrie, glad you got in a good run!
Today I took dog for nail trimming at the vet since I can't do it just now then we took a walk and so far for my exercise today that is it a slow easy mile OUTSIDE! First time since winter set. There was mostly clear space on the trail and did I mention OUTSIDE! 32 degrees of bliss.

I'm Back!! Twice in one day!
This is my attempt to catch up:
Aloha Jeff I love reading your training posts, especially those involving DD'sprincess: and the pictures are beautiful.
Dave Good to see you :thumbsup2
Vic Very sorry that you would have to go near Orlando and not go to Disney, I hate when that happens. :headache:
Stephanie Sorry about the allergy attack and I'm surprised you got that good of a work out from Zumba. They have that at my gym too it's good to know.
Martha All I can say is, WOW THAT'S COLD!!!! :scared1:
Craig I'm sorry about your run, I have had MORE than my share of those lately.
Leana I'm glad you had such a great run!!! :yay:
Mike That sounds like an awesome run for a fat guy out of shape :confused3 You sound JUST LIKE DH!!!!
SAM GREAT JOB on the run!!! :dance3: I think that is awesome. That is great thing about the WISH team and running itself, it's just us against ourselves surrounded by a team of SUPPORT!! And we can celebrate with each other instead of competing, I LOVE IT
Amy I'm sorry your run did not turn out the way you wanted  I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL :upsidedow
Stacie Congratulations on your longest run yet!!! :yay:
Christa SUPER FAST 4!!! And I WILL pray for your family, speaking of praying how is your mom?
Betsy Great job on your race, sounds like fun!!
Jeff I hear you on the chocolate yesterday :scared1:
Scott Can I come in your world? IF I EVER finish a 5k in that time I will be..... :dance3: :dance3:
Lily Beautiful pictures, but..... I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE. My kids were swimming at my mom's yesterday after church. :flower3:
CarrieAWESOME JOB :cheer2: Negative splits!!!
JudyYAAY!!! For asphalt time and I'm glad it went well!!!
Cecilia I am SOOOOOOO happy for you!! That will be so much fun. Everyone thought we were crazy last year when we actually ran Gasparilla 1/2 on our anniversary. I LOVED IT!!
Liz Sending you a little warmth and sunshine :cool2:
Debra Sorry about your run!!! I DEFINATELY KNOW HOW YOU FEEL. And one thing I have figured out in the last couple of weeks is sometimes we need to man up and sometimes we need to know when to call quits and try again tommorrow :thumbsup2
Lily Glad you got outside, but 32 :scared1: I have SO much respect for you guys who live up there.
Jen in GA Thank you so much for the reminder :) I mean it, sometimes I forgot that it was not that long a go that I could not stand long enough to blow dry my hair when I was getting ready for work in the morning. That is horrible, I can not even imagine that now :confused3
OK as for me finally a good run!!! :dance3: :dance3:
Did 4.1 in 38 minutes -- Just under 9.5 pace!!! It was cooler tonight than it has been. I'm getting a little more excited about MINNIE because I am officially registered for 5k and 15 k and hotel will be paid off this weekend!!! I am getting a little worried about the heat though. I don't remember it being that big of an issue for me last year, since I train in it almost 365 days a year, but the last couple of slow, painful long runs I have had I think part of it was the heat.
OK have a good night everyone!!

Not much to report training wise. I am still getting in some runs and biking and feeling pretty good afterwards. It is enough to keep me out of trouble or at least appear that way.
Who knew a birthday party could be so difficult for someone who won't remember anything. :lmao: I decided it is better to let Lynnda plan it or people might wind up not having anything since I obviously don't know what goes into these things. :rolleyes1 Anyone who wants to help, I am sure she would love it since I seem to be lacking in the creative side of things.
Angie - Great job on the run. Glad to hear you are signed up for Minnie.
Lily - Love the snow and to offer still stands that we will gladly take whatever you don't want. You just have to figure how to get it here. :lmao:
Christa - Let's see, Christa and Tapering in the same sentence. Don't see that happening. 6 miles and flying, that sounds more like Christa. ;) Glad your schedule is still letting you train or did you have to give up sleeping to get everything in.
Debra - Sorry you had a bad run. There are just some days that are not meant for running. We will be more than willing to take the ice cream so it doesn't tempt you though. Anything to help out a fellow team mate. :rolleyes1
Jen - Congrats on the new addition. Doing Goofy with him/her as well is very impressive no matter what you think.
Liz - Hope you were able to get a little sleep. I definately understand wanting to nap instead unfortunately the little ones running around here don't quite understand it. :lmao:
WWDave - Now you irritated the Tag Fairy. Good thing she doesn't hang out around here or you might get some rearrangements to the appendages on the Panda. Might not be easy to run when your legs are on top of your head. ;)
Cecilia - Congrats on doing the AK race. We are still undecided about it since we don't need the ticket and all the races are getting pricey now.
Judy - Congrats on getting outside. Now you will be burning up the roads with your speedy times. Concealed Weapons, got to remember not to irritate you. :lmao:
Carrie - Hope you are feeling better. Great job on the 8 miles.
Scott - Congrats on the PR. Impressive you went out for biking afterwards as well.
Krista - Congrats on a boy. You mean they didn't give you the ultrasound reading class beforehand. :lmao: After a while you figure out that you can show them to people and tell them whatever you want because they can't figure it out and they are impressed you know where everything is.
HawaiiJeff - Hope you like the new truck. Hawaii sure seems to like the holidays, maybe that is why everyone wants to go over there. ;) Couldn't have anything to do with all those great pictures you show. :rotfl2:
Betsy - It sounds like you had a busy weekend. Just flying from Alaska to Texas is enough to tire someone out. Congrats on the great finish.
Mike - Good luck in training for your 1/2IM. Someday I hope to complete one of those but I guess I should try to get in the pool first.
Vic - Remind me not to make Marilyn mad. I'm sure you were sandbagging the practice to help encourage your wife. :rolleyes1 Have fun in Orlando and there is always time to visit the mouse.
PatsBill - Great to see you here. How is everything going.
Martha - Welcome back and thanks for not letting Craig get into any trouble. Although it might be fun to watch him run after he "borrows" one of those hats.
Craig - Great picture. It looks like you are having fun but why is everyone else bundled up and not you. Were you preparing to be like the 12th Man and help out the team if they needed it. ;)
Hope everyone has a good day.

Hi guys! I'm feeling better today! 6 days down, but today might be the end of it! :thumbsup2
I still have some gunk going on, but I've come out of the haze. I'm even contemplating going out for a short run today. We'll see...
It is hard to believe I'm running my first half this weekend. It feels like forever since I've run with this flu and the tapering. Will I remember how to run?!? :confused3 :lmao: Seriously?

Lily - Nice snow pics! Seems like this winter has lasted forever...heck, we even saw snow here in Atlanta yesterday...geesh.
Stacie - How are things?? Any new experiments with gels lately??
Carrie - Nice run! Especially that last mile!! Looks like you are going to be totally ready for the Martian...
Angie - Super run!! Especially after not being satisfied with your pace on the 8.3 miler. We're excited about Minnie too...thanks again for the vote of confidence with Anthony Travel and we too will be paid off this weekend :)
Judy - Congrats on coming out of hibernation! Sooo glad it went well for you too :goodvibes:
Cecilia - You are doing Everest...how cool!! What a great anniversary expedition :)
Liz - I hear you on the weather...we are bouncing from 26 to 63 today...
Jen in GA - Hey, even if it was early, it still counts!! Have you started a running log for the baby yet?
Debra - Just shrug that run off, you were probably smart for bagging it...your body was telling you that it wasn't in the cards. Hmmmm...maybe it's time to try the thin mint + ice cream + other favorite snack combo?? Reverse run psychology? :rotfl:
Christa - You are too kind, thank you. You just did 7:35mpm for 4 miles, what do you mean you can't sub 24 in a 5k :goodvibes: As far as a tri...I have to leave that one to you crazy people. I can run pretty good and I can bike pretty good, but I'd need to take some swimming lessons before jumping in a lake LOL Good luck with the taper madness...not much longer now..
Bill - I'm with you on the lack of creativity...sounds like your workouts are going well though...nice work.
Shan - Yay!! Feeling better!! Just don't push anything, I'm sure your body is still recovering...keep drinking those fluids! You will be just fine this Sunday :)
Amy - Hope the spinning and pilates is going good for you this morning! I'm sooo excited that Minnie is right around the corner :goodvibes: Here's to a successful week of training!
Scott's World - Yesterday was a rest day for me and I took full advantage of it by catching up with some Survivor episodes that I missed (nevermind the popcorny goodness that went along with it ;) ). I'll get out there early this evening for a slower paced 4 miler in the 'hood. Just gonna take it easy this week leading into the Half on Sunday.
Hope everyone has a great day today!

Good Morning Wishers!!!
Carrie...Great run girl!!!
Angie...I'm envious of 8.3 in 83 min! :goodvibes Glad to hear you had a good run yesterday! Way to go!!!
Judy...Yay for coming out of hibernations!!! Asphalt! :cool1:
Cecelia...Men. hmph! Go figure... Regardless, You're going to the AK run!!! How fun!!! We can't make it, but I can't wait to hear all about it!!!
Deb...Sorry you had no energy...Happens to me alot! Yay for no pain!!! Terrifi!
Christa... :wizard: for you cold!
Lily...Yay! You got to walk outside! Sure beats the old TM!
Mike...Geez man! 7 miles on the elliptical! I'm in awe!!! Way to go!
Shan...I"m so glad you are feeling better!!! You'll do great this weekend!
Scott... popcorn:: yum!!! Glad you had a good rest day off! Have fun on your 4 miler tonigh! For me...no more gels! :goodvibes I did buy some beans that I'll try out this weekend.
For me... Let's see. 40 min on the elliptical last night. 2.6 miles. I thought that was pretty good for me. I was moving at a steady pace. Hr was between 168 and 175 peaking at 177. I'm glad it was bit lower than when I run. When I was done, I felt good. I've not lost any weight, but I know I am healthier and that is a good feeling. I remember when I could barely do 10 min on the elliptical. Now 40 total!!! Yay! This is actually only the 3rd time I've been on it since I started training so I know the endurance has come from the running. Good feeling! :thumbsup2
1 more small accomplishment...packed my lunch today. Lasagna and garlic knots! yum! I'm going to try to do this more to hopefully help with the weight loss and the budget!
Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi all,
Quick check in from Zion National Park. Finding muscles I never knew I had.....Hiking up Angels's Landing trail, including the 20 switchbacks at 19% grade....3 ft wide trail over ridge with iron chains to grab lest one fall off the edge of the cliff....gorgeous views.
Yesterday hiked into Zion narrows....hiking in the river (only way in) full dry suit, 40 degree water...canyon 20-30 ft wide...
Cross training in the extreme!
SamSam WTG on the 9.8 miles. You're there! Some of us still have our longest prep run to go, and I hope I remember how to run when I get back!
Today will be easy day-short hikes, hot tub, reading, beer.

Shan...hang in there!! You may be still recovering a little. Do what you can the next couple of days. Remember that you will be capable of more on race day, due to adrenaline, race excitement, crowds cheering for you, energy all around.... You'll be great!! Think positive!
and I'm trying to keep that attitude as well...I started feeling sick last night, and my first tri of the season is on Saturday.

Hey Team, not a whole lot to report except... WE ARE STILL GETTING SNOW. Seriously, it is predicted on and off through the weekend. This is NOT normal Wisconsin weather. And as others have mentioned... how am I going to handle the FL heat at Minnie if we are barely getting into the 40's here. I am so sad about this.
Last night I cross training at home. Tonight will be most likely indoors also. The wind and snow and cold is not condusive for enjoyable runs!
Shan - Rest like crazy until the 1/2. Don't push it at all. I got sick the day before my 1/2 marathon and still ran through it (PRed even). But you need to rest if you want to finish. If you are on the mend, the next 4 days will really help you heal up.

Maura - Sounds like hiking in Zion is great training. All the hiking you are doing is bound to be great for your training. Who needs long runs when you're hiking up 19% grades! :)
Yesterday I had a 1 hour class of pump 'n crunch, followed by a 30 minutes basic training (boot cam) class. Whoooooo, I was worn out.
Today will be 2 miles on the TM followed by two 30 minute cardio/weight classes.
Everyone, have a beautiful day.

Shan - Rest up, hydrate and I'm sure you'll do great!
Betsy - sending PD to make sure that whatever it is goes away quickly!
Judy - Know what you mean about not being able to get out. This is certainly not normal. Beginning to wonder if I'm going to have to crank up the portable heater in the basement so I can TM in higher temps. :lmao:
Bill - one good thing about having a 19yr old is they SO get naps :rotfl:
Stacie - I haven't done enough distance yet to try the gels but I have used the beans and love them! Especially the orange - Target sells them by the box, too.
And shout outs to everyone else!
Despite the lack of sleep (or maybe because of mental incapacity due to lack of sleep) I decided to get on the TM before dinner. Bad move.... Shins hurt, calves hurt and after a mile scrapped the idea. Thankfully I went to bed early, slept well and feel so much better today!
Also went outside at lunch and it's beautiful! Real Windy but 52 so I'll take it. Going to go for a walk outside after work and not even worry (too much) about pace. :goodvibes
Hope everyone is having a great day!

Shan- bend over, because here comes the big kick in the okole (Hawaiian for your "backside"). Get some rest for that flu, and you'll do fine in the half.
Yeah :cheer2: to everyone out there walking, jogging, running, and getting in the repetitions. Keep it up!
FYI- I only post pictures from Hawaii, as proof to you snowbound mainlander's that the sun still exists. That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it! :rotfl2:
I will run 6 miles today after work. After last Thursday's run, our group decided to BBQ after tonight's run. We're doing Teriyaki burgers, and grilled veggies for those not wanting to be guinea pigs for "Mad cow" disease. :rotfl:Pau hana Tuesday, since no work on Wednesday.
OFF TOPIC: On Wednesday (Prince Kuhio's birthday, yes it's a State holiday) we're taking the family van for one last spin around the island, to use up the 1/2 tank of gas I still have. Good to the last drop. LOL.
We'll stop at Turtle Bay Resort to swim and hit golf balls at the driving range, jump in the ocean if small surf, have shrimp scampie at Giovanni's Shrimp Truck, and Matsumoto's Shave Ice. I pick up the new truck in the afternoon.
For those who are LOST fans, the show is filming just one block away from my office the last two days. This morning I saw two extras cast members walking by, dressed in their "Old school" military Navy uniforms.
I'll walk by there at lunch, and take some camera phone pictures (my regular camera is at home) of all the production trailers, and craft service tents. They've been filming all over the island since returning from the writer's strike. I previously have met Harold Perrineau (Michael), Jorge Garcia (Hurley), Daniel Dae Kim (Jin), and Michael Emmerson (Benjamin). Very down to earth people. My wife's co-worker's daughter goes to school with Matthew Fox's children (three degrees of separation).
That's it for now. Good training, and fun racing to all! :yay:

Christa - You are too kind, thank you. You just did 7:35mpm for 4 miles, what do you mean you can't sub 24 in a 5k :goodvibes: As far as a tri...I have to leave that one to you crazy people. I can run pretty good and I can bike pretty good, but I'd need to take some swimming lessons before jumping in a lake LOL Good luck with the taper madness...not much longer now..
WTG on the rest day...OK #1, There is not a kind bone in my body....You ROCK! It is just the truth and if I can Tri, anyone can. #2, my normal 5k pace has been 7:40...which has gotten me some "major awards" for 3rd in my AG, but no sub 24:00....my fastest is 24:00 on the dot...I think it is the hilly 5k courses I choose...my super fast 4 mile were on the greenway trails which only have minor hills....and I was running in throw up mode...so fast I thought I was going to throwup...NICE!
Angie - WTG on the run! You were flying!
Shan - Now this is coming from the non-tapering evil queen...but do as I say not as I do...rest and only run very little.....you will do great.
Betsy - there must be something in the air b/c I have been feeling the same way. I have been taking zycam (sp?) like crazy...and eating all my DDs chocolate bunnies when they are at school.:goodvibes Feed a cold...right?
Swam 1600 yrd today and I still smell like pool....yes I took a shower...Boy I am slow. When I tri to work on my form it seems like I just get slower. just glad the old old old lady (she couldn't even get out of the pool by herself) did not pass me. I did 1600 b/c that is about the dist my next tri will be. It took me 41 min...in a pool. I know an OWS will take longer than a pool swim. I may be the last one out of the water...at least I will have no trouble finding my bike....:rotfl:

Shan - Oh no, sorry about your stonker run! Be sure to rest, don't worry about running, and you'll be in good shape for your half!
Well folks, I got in 45 minutes of weights last night, 3.18 miles around the neighborhood this morning. It was another great run with no shin pain! 'm getting my wisdom teeth out on Thursday so I'm trying to get in what I can since I may be out of commission for a few days.

Betsy, I hope you feel better soon and it doesn't get worse! :wizard:
Jeff, did you have to kick me in the okole quite so hard? :lmao:
After today's run I have decided to not run again until maybe Friday and then just do a 2 mile run. After today's run I feel super tired all over again.
I'm definitely having a mental fight going right now. I can do this, I can do this...

Christa: I'm sorry to hear about your run. I think you're just getting it out of your system prior to the Tri. Taper trial, huh? And I know you're not being overly modest, just giving an honest assessment of your tri skills when you talk about swimming. But I know that even if you consider yourself a slow swimmer that you're going to kick booty on the biking & running portion of the tri!
Lily: Yeah for an easy mile outside. The fresh air must have felt great! (If brisk.)
Angie: Good pace for your run. :yay: Do I understand you correctly that you're running both the 5K and the 15K?
Bill: The ice cream was safe. DOOD's the big ice-cream fan in the family, and he gave me "the look." I got the message and slunk off for a cup of hot chocolate instead. Thanks for offering to fall on your sword for me, though! FWIW, I do think all birthdays--even those that won't be remembered--should involve ice cream.
Mike: Totally off the topic of your training, but have you had the PB&J shakes at the 50s Prime Time Cafe. Every time I read your recovery bagel & shake breakfast I think of those. Thanks a lot. :rotfl2:
Shan: Please focus on what you DID do. You ran. It wasn't easy, but you ran. That's determination, and the kind of strength you're going to take into your race. :cheer2: Don't get mad at yourself, get even. Take it out on the pavement during your race. I know you can....
Scott: Just what I need, to fuel my non-existent running with my favorite junk food. Hmm. I haven't tried that. It might work. :upsidedow After all, your popcorn strategy seems to be working for you. I just know your 1/2 is going to rock!
Stacie: 40 minutes on the elliptical is no small feat! And to know it comes from building up your running strength. You're doing so well! :cool1: And thanks for the discount code on the skirts, you temptress you.
Maura: I'm so glad you're getting some scenic & strenuous XT in. Better you than me. Just kidding--it sounds fabulous. Enjoy the hot tub, beer & reading (pleasure reading, I hope).
Betsy: I'm sending some get-well-before-you-even-get-sick PD your way for your Tri! pixiedust:
Jen: More snow??? Geez, I think you need a vacation. The Minnie, maybe? :lmao: I hope the heat isn't too much for you, but I know that you're strong & can handle almost anything.
SamSam: Back to back classes? Wow, your XT is intense.
Liz: I'm glad you're feeling better & had the opportunity for a little outdoor, lunchtime walk. That's sure to lift the spirits. I hope your after-work one was just as enjoyable.
Aloha Jeff: Congrats on the new truck & what a way to send off the old. Your holiday sounds like fun. And you just know your behind the scenes info about Lost pleases all of us Losties. Hurley's my fave, of course, because he says DUDE. ;) Also, congrats on your other good news. You're a very talented photographer.
Leana: Great job on the WOs. I hope your wisdom-teeth removal goes as smoothly & you have a pain-free recovery.
As for me: Everyone, thanks for your kind words & reassurances about my icky run. I don't know what I'd do without you all. Maybe drive myself crazy. (Or is that crazier?)
I didn't try to run today, but did my scheduled weight training. I did sneak a quick walk in Frick Park today, just see what the walking/running trails looked like. If the rain stays away I think I might be able to get out on some of the more well-trod areas this weekend! :woohoo:

I have been having such a hard time fitting everything I need to do into my crazy life. Working out has been getting the shaft, I'm sad to say. Not only have a gained a few lbs., I feel like crap! :sad2: So, I am going to re-commit myself to "me time." I am going to make sure I keep going to yoga, which is about all I've been able to get in lately. But I have to get more cardio in as well.
Tonight I got in about 40 mins. on the TM at the Y. How far did you go, you might ask? Well....someone hit the wrong button. One labeled "stop" and lost all her info!  So, I did about 40 mins. with a 2.0 incline. Somewhere over 2.5 miles.
I was kind of bummed. The gym is replacing the basketball court floor with hardwood. Great for the basketball players. Not so great for people with asthma that use the track that surrounds the court. The wood smell alone forced Chad out of there. I didn't even try since I knew the asthma would go haywire in there.
I have the Great Bay half in a week & a half and it ain't going to be pretty.
But, I will walk it and finish it! As long as I am not DLF, I will be happy.
Bill - we had a Nemo party for Zack's first birthday. Goldfish crackers, blue jello with a swedish fish on top, etc. It was very cute! We gave the kiddos beach pails with some dollar store water toys in them for favors. I went totally overboard with the 3 year old Peter Pan party. But it was very cool. If you have any ideas for a 5 year old party - let me know. I'd love to do a rock star one, but Zack's insisting on Power Rangers. He's never even seen a Power Rangers show! Weird.
Leanna - good luck with the wisdom teeth! When I had mine out - it was very uneventful & not painful at all. I am wishing the same for you!
Judy - I never did get any thank you for volunteering thing-a-ma-bob.

Maura, what XT you’ve got going there!
Angie, you are having some great runs!
Bill, good luck with planning that party. Amazing how fast the year went. Party planning: give him chocolate cake that he can have for himself, put one drop cloth under the high chair and take plenty of pics!
Mike, you are really putting in the time. Good for you!
Shan, don’t worry--restly, you will do fine! I can’t wait to read your race report cuz I can feel the excitement already!
Scott, sounds like you’ve got your taper on.
Stacie, great progress. Lunch packing—good idea too esp since it means more vaca $$$.
Betsy, stay well.
Jen, sorry you are stuck training indoors. Me too. At least it is warmer inside and maybe will help since FL will be hot by any of our standards. (That didn’t work to convince me training indoors is fine.) Never mind that I said that. WISHing you can get outside soon.
Liz, hope you get rest tonight and that your walk was good.
Jeff, sounds like you’ve got the right spirit. Run then party! Enjoy your holiday.
Christa, So the swim is a slow warm-up for you. Once you’re on your bike and on your run, you will be smoking everyone.
Leanna, here’s PD that the extraction of wisdom goes smoothly and as pain free as possible.
Debra, good job on XT and the checking the outdoors for your future trekking. I hope it will work for your training there.
Kristi, sorry to hear about the flooring that will affect your asthma. Will that be always and will you be needing to find another place to w/o? Good for you to re-commit to you. That is important for your health and sanity!

We jammed 6 miles in just over 1 hour, the sand route through Waikiki Beach.
I had to get back and fire up my grill and do the cooking. About 10 of us stayed to dine on Teriyaki burgers, Teriyaki meat sticks, grilled eggplant, Spanish rice, and macaroni salad. So basically, with 4 bites, we negated the entire run. :rotfl2:
There was an incredible sunset while we were cooling down from our run. Unfortunately, my camera was at home. Oh well, next time I'll post another crappy photo of the sun setting over the ocean. LOL, dream on everyone! :rotfl:
Our group enjoyed it so much, we decided to BBQ every last Thursday of the month (not to include this Thursday).
We used to picnic on the last Friday of every month, in celebration of that month's birthday honorees, but we gave that up. Too bad because we watched the Hilton Hawaiian Village's weekly fireworks on those nights (it always reminds me of a shorter Disney fireworks show).
Everyone enjoy their Prince Kuhio holiday off on Wednesday. I'll think of you all from the North Shore...

of Jeff.
Hawaii is awesome; we will be in Kauai (where I think the prince was born) for two weeks in June so I have already written the training hours I will need to do in my calendar, since that will be about a month before the triathlon....looks like I will be renting a bike on the garden island!
So jealous for Prince Kuhio day...like the Hawaiian Mardi Gras...oh, and that you are in HAWAII!!!!
I'm off for my 45 minute swim and 35 minute run...thanks for the encouragement everyone..I'm grooving on the WISH boards!

Kristi, sorry to hear about the flooring that will affect your asthma. Will that be always and will you be needing to find another place to w/o?I think once all the construction settles, I will be fine. Just all that fresh cut wood, you know? And my asthma has been bad lately, so I didn't want to aggravate it more.
Thanks for the thanks about volunteering you guys! :goodvibes
Honestly, it's not a big deal. I just have to give Judy a hard time about it since she teased me for over a week wanting to know if I got "something" in the mail... Although it would be neat to have the certificate thingie to put in my scrapbook. Oh well!
Tonight is yoga - hope it's the easier instructor.
Still feeling it a bit from Saturday morning's class.

Hello Team...wow...I have to say I'm so impressed with reading everyones' daily reports of all the running, walking and cross training. You guys are an inspiration. Thanks! :goodvibes
Kristi: OMG...yoga makes you sore too? It kicks my butt...literally! If I take another instructors yoga class I can feel the sore muscles for days! Good for you for getting it in twice a week though. Are you finding it is helping your running?
Jeff: Ok now ;)....you are REALLY trying to make us all jealous aren't you? Well...ummm....I'll take my camera out and get a picture of the bare and desolate trees, snow still laying around and....dead leaves. That'll show ya!!! OK..kidding...I LOVE seeing your pictures....you are convincing me that I need to visit Hawaii VERY soon!
Deb: Good job getting the strength training in! :thumbsup2 Do you do a full body session each time or just arms and then legs another day? I'm trying to add two days a week of strength work in now..wherever I can squeeze it in. I'm only using free weights. Would love to hear what your program consists of. Thanks!
Christa: GREAT job with 1600 yard swim. Gosh...the swimming thing is really making me nervous. I mean...I won't drown...but I just don't know if I can do very well! THANK YOU for helping me feel better about it (on the tri thread) because it's holding me back from registering for this tri. I need to stop being a chicken and just do it! Hang in there with the taper!
Scott: You're a beast. WTG on one heck of a crazy workout weekend.
Stacie: THANK YOU for getting the runningskirts discount!!!!
Leana: PD for the wisdom teeth!!!
Angie: Solid run girl :). I can't wait to say "hi" to you at the Minnie. I'm so excited for you...I think it's going to be a GREAT race for you!!!!
As for me....Let's see...Monday is my normal rest day but I still have to teach 3 classes  . So I guess it's not really that much of a rest day. But...I do rest from cardio...so not much to report. Yesterday I taught a Spinlates class....well the "lates" portion of class. What a great format....30 minutes of spin and 30 minutes of Pilates. GREAT combo :). I taught an additional class and worked out on the elliptical as well...so overall a very good day of exercise. Today is a scheduled 5 Miler...hope it goes better than Sundays run! I think I'll do my strength training and some Pilates as well to round out the day.
Have a great one! :sunny:

Debra - Sorry about teh stonker. I had mine Monday. Hope your next run is better!
Scott - Popcorny goodness? :rotfl: Love it!
Lynnda - Good luck with the party! Shall we distract Bill so he doesn't "help"? :rotfl: An old movie had a song iwth the chorus of "Some kind of help is the kind of help that helping's all about and SOme Kind of Help is teh Kind of help...we all can do without." I have to sing it for Scott sometimes. :p
Bill - FOrgive me. Your comments on teh party just had me thinking about some of Scott's help. I'm sure you're a great help! :)
Shan - SO glad the fog has lifted. COntinue to rest and drink plenty of fluids and you will be ok!
Christa - How's your mom?
Jen - We had flurrie syesterdy and are due for snow tonight. WHat an awful winter. FYI - Those TM runs will help. WHich reminds me, I need ot get my TM time in again. Just can't resist when the bike path is runnable.
Kristi - Hope the gym air clears soon! BTW, thanks for volunteering!!!
Jeff - Sorry, I can't look at your posts ot respond. The pix are just too hard for me to take, evn if they are for our own good. ;)
Maura - Sounds liek you are gettign quite the work outs. FYI, I wouldn't come back too soon. Extend that good weather as long as possible!
Well, Monday's 40 min stonked big time! Was way sore and stiff from Sunday. I finished, though. Yoga helped.
Chi people - Th emiddle of my back hurt Monday from SUnday. Could it just be because my back is not used to being upright? COuld not find a reason for it in teh book. I know my shouldres were not too far back, I am a chronic sloucher. Oh, only 26 pages to go. I think I can finish before my Saturday workshop! It's supposed ot make sure we have the feel for when we're doing it right. I'm really looking forward to it.

My RR from the Urban Dare last weekend is on the RR thread now. It's long, and probably has too many local references to be very interesting to most people, but hopefully it gives an idea of how the race is set up and how much fun it is, in case the race comes to your area and you want to try something new.
And...I don't think there is a pace requirement! ;)

Hi all,
I did a training 3 miles this morning (this training is for the Minnie) 3 miles in 43min 20sec. Not to bad and wasn't trying to force anything in my walk. Still trying to concentrate on form.
I think I will try some small hills at a park on my way home within the next few weeks. Where I walk it is VERY flat and I need alittle bit of hill work, so that way I am not dying with the overpasses on the Minnie 15K course. I know how those last 3 overpasses on the Disney Half can mentally get you at the end.
Here it is 68 degrees and I think it is the last "cool" spell for South Florida. I enjoyed wearing my WDW Half Long sleeve tech shirt this morning.:)
Here I am:
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j286/dsnyfan/me032608a.jpg
I'm in my backyard. In the background is a Purple Martin birdhouse and there are at least 4 nests in there. They are cool little birds with beautiful songs. They sing alot first thing in the morning and later in the evening as the sun goes down.
Good training to everyone!!!

Happy Wednesday!
Just a quick update and I'll catch up on everyone's antics later today.
Did a 4.33 mile walk yesterday in 70 minutes! I know that's slow but I'll take it (for now ;) ). Some small hills and lots of wind, felt good afterward. Only minor shin pain about 15 min in but stretched and massaged it out and never came back.
Going to get in another 4 miles after work tonight and hoping for same result. (well actually hoping for improvement but that's me...expecting too much too soon).

You are a busy bunch this week...it took some time to read through everyones accomplishments. It has been hard getting into this week, coming off a family weekend of food and fun. I got outside today for a 5 mile run in 46 min. Not bad 9:20 mile and hoping for a 9 by the Minnie Marathon.

Good job, peeps!! Y'all keep me inspired!
And Tracy, your lawn is lovely! :) Mine is full of spring weeds....thankfully the mowing guy will come this weekend. Good plan to find some hills...I have hills around me, so I get surprised at the WDW races when people are stymied by the overpasses...practice makes them way easier! :goodvibes

GOOD AFTERNOON TEAM
Very busy day at work. No time to catch up individually but I wanted to pop in and say HI!!!:wave2: And tell you that I got another 4 miles last night which was a HUGE accomplishment becuase I was up majority of Monday night with DS - 12  Turned out to be food poisoning from Easter Sunday (my mom's ham :scared1: ) DS - 8 only got a little, me none and DH none because he was at fire station.
So I did not time my 4 last night because I was exaughsted and just happy to get the miles in. I did get up and do PUMP (weights) this am at gym.
Do want to a couple things real quick before I go:
Leana GOOD LUCK with the wisdom teeth.
SHAN YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!! WE BELIEVE IN YOU!!!:cheer2:
Debra Yes I am doing 5k and 15k. I am doing 5k with my mom (even if she did poison my kids :rotfl: ) She has never done anything like this before and we will probably walk whole thing. The 15k is my race.!!
Gotta go

Stacie - Mmmm Sport Beans!! Have you tried the Marathon bars by Snickers? I'm using them about an hour before I head out to run...they are pretty yummy :) Also, way to go with the discount!! So cool of you to do that (even though I can't take advantage of it :rotfl: )
Maura - Would love to see some pics when you return! I bet it's beautiful out there and a place I'd definitley like to visit in the future.
Shan - Hang in there and just try to rest up prior to Sunday...you've trained hard and you are totally prepared from a physical standpoint...don't let the mental game get to you ;) Did you get the bib number e-mail?
Betsy - How are you feeling?? Good luck this Saturday...I know you're excited to tri. THANK YOU for posting the Urban Dare report...you guys ROCKED it!! I love AR and this event looks like so much fun!
Jen - Here's hoping it stops snowing soon! Everyone up north and in the midwest has had such a cruddy winter...
Sam - pump n crunch and boot camp back to back..wow...way to go!!
Liz - Here's hoping that shin stops bothering you, great job getting out there though...looks like you were very smart by stretching your shin out when it started bothering you :)
AlohaJeff - One word. I'm jealous. (ok, that was two)
Christa - here's sending some super speedy swimming dust your way!! At least you can make forward progress in the water...ever seen a heavy rock get thrown in a lake?? Yep, that'd be me. :rotfl: At least you weren't passed by the Cocoon people!
Leana - Best wishes on the wisdom teeth...please keep us posted on your recovery (since I need to get mine taken out too).
Debra - Should have known you were a Lostie :goodvibes: I'd be out there everyday if I was Jeff, trying to sneak peeks of what was happening...
Kristi - Sorry to hear about the changes at the gym, but good job re-committing to some "me time"!! 40min on the treaddie is no joke...good job! Have fun with Yoga tonight.
Carrie - My back has hurt a bit too right in the middle...could it be just from the arm swinging motion or maybe being a little too tense? I need to get my hands on a Chi book...
Tracy - Good thoughts about the hills...hill training helps out so much with any kinds of events and especially when some overpasses are thrown your way on an otherwise flat course!
Joan - Nice run! You are so close to your 9 min goal, my bet is that you'll meet it at the Minnie!
Angie - Sorry to hear about your DS...best wishes for a speedy recovery there. Nice work on the 4 miles..no worries about the time, it's about the steps anyway :goodvibes:
Amy - So..urban dare..that spinlates class..urban dare..looks like it would be..urban dare..a very cool thing to teach and participate in..urban dare. I've been trying..urban dare..to find a new race..urban dare..for us to run this summer..urban dare..any ideas from your end?
Scott's World - Aside from re-working my blog with a new layout and lots of new data (shamless plug), I managed to hit the treadmill last night for a 4 mile "hamster wheelish" run that I completed in 35:50. Tonight it's back to the FC to do somewhere between 30-60 minutes of exercise on the elliptical and/or stationary bike.
Hope everyone has a great day!!

:thumbsup2 I think it should be a required team wear for the Minnie. :yay:
Angie, sorry about the food poisoning. I guess he'll never eat at Grandma's house again. Glad he's ok and you got to run too.
Tracy, good idea for the hill work. It does help. Nice pic of the green yard. We've now got brown grass/no leaves but if you look close there are buds trying to get out all over. Snow is almost all melted.
Carrie, sorry about the back. I'm still waiting for the library to call that the book is in so I can read it. I'm thinking that might have something to do with not enough core strength. Do you XT with core strengthening?
I did TM for a bit before going to bed last night. Will see what goes on later. Can't get to things til then. Happy training everyone.

[COLOR="DarkRed"]Welllll, I'm thinking if there was zebra butt talk a couple years ago and also that we saw guys dressed like flamingos this race event, what's wrong with the Minnie racing skirt look?
:thumbsup2 I think it should be a required team wear for the Minnie. :yay:
Hmmm... ...can we reach a compromise here? Some quick Googling produced these:
http://www.sportkilt.com/ezcart/products/K.jpg
and YES, they are SPORTS kilts...wicking and everything...check them out here: www.sportkilt.com (but I was afraid to click on the 'commando kilt'... )

Thanks for all the well wishes with the wisdom teeth guys!
Scott - I'll let you know how recovery goes. I'm only getting my top ones out and I've heard (knock on wood) that those are generally easier than the bottom. I like the sport kilts - wicking and everything, who knew?
Congrats to everyone getting their miles in! I ran 5 miles over lunch today in 56:30 (11:17/mi). I've now correlated my shin pain during running to those runs that happen in the afternoon. I wonder if wearing heels during the day causes my calves to tighten, then causing problems on the run? It is my next conclusion because I've noticed that the morning runs don't hurt. The good news is that while my shins were bugging me initially during the run it wasn't as bad as it has been and after a couple of miles in things worked themselves out and the rest of the run was comfortable.
Have a great day everyone!

:rotfl: Scott! Yikes that kilt reminds me of my old field hockey days!!! I think you'd look quite dashing in that kilt. You are of scottish descent aren't you? So it's perfect!
Carrie: Here are my total guesses on your back hurting...are you doing more of a bending over as opposed to leaning. It's a fine line..but if you are bending forward it might strain the lower and middle back. The other possibility is your posture in trying to do the "lean". If you are not pulling in the core (think naval pulling to spine) then it might stress the back a bit. I wish I could show you what I mean...it's difficult to describe in words. It's just the tilt of your pelvis...too far forward or back can stress the back or hips...you want to have a neutral pelvis and spine. I'll see if I can find something to visually show you.
Joan: Wow you are speedy! I think you'll do great in the Minnie...you'll be in the 8's for sure during the race! :)
Wow..look at me posting twice here in one day. Guess you can tell this my day off from teaching ;). Sooo...I just finished my 5 Miler and hit it in 46:10. It was windy and hilly so I'm really happy with that pace since I thought I was going a lot slower. I didn't pace my miles so I have no idea how the splits worked out. Have a great day everyone! :sunny:

Leana - Heels = BAD. I bet that's it.
Scott - Love teh tartan, but I htink the Minnie skirt would still breathe better. ;) Don't think i's my arms, as it hurt just to be upright, but twisting that way now does hit that exact spot. Hmmmmm...
Lily - I'm thinking core is a problem for me. I got a new move in yoga last night that I will do more. Need to start workign with my ball agian too.
Angie - :scared1: Hope dd is better. How awful! COngrats on teh run!

Amy - I don't lean at all yet. I am just trying to be upright, because I have run bent at the waist for years now. So, I'm thinkign I just don't have the core to be straight yet. It actually helped to lean at teh waist, but I made myself stay straight. Maybe I'm just built backwards. lol.

Feel much better today gang. Still a little coughing, but not too bad. I appreciate all the pixie dust everyone gave me - I know I was a total baby. :rolleyes1
Finally went to a consult today about my remnant mommy tummy. I'm a little bummed about the price, but he said once he repairs my stomach muscles he could get my tummy pretty close to as flat as the wall. It has been a long time since my tummy has been that flat... Did tell me for best results I should lose five pounds. I've been working on losing five pounds since Christmas with little result so that will be a tough one. Now I just gotta decide if I want to go through with it. He did feel like I should have no problems getting back in time for the Donald.

Kristi: That's a real bummer about the hardwood floors & your asthma. I admit that I hadn't thought about those consequences until you brought them up. Anyway, that sucks & I hope things settle down quickly. I'm glad you're recommitting to you time and yoga, easier instructor or not. (Am I the only one who chants "Yoga! Yoga! Yoga!" Animal House-style sometimes?) And yes, THANK YOU for volunteering.
Lily: I like your logic about training indoors working to acclimate to FL weather. I'm gonna use that one in the future. And yes, you can convince me to buy swampland. How are you feeling on the TM these days?
Aloha Jeff: Yeah for monthly barbecues. :woohoo: I'm a vegetarian, so I appreciated your mentioning the veggie options. I have to admit, though, the only thing I once missed when going veggie was BBQ sauce--it's just not the same on grilled eggplant. And I like to think of friends & food festivities as fueling for the next run, not offsetting the last one! ;)
Amy: Really, you're the expert in all of this training stuff. But here goes. Because I'm kind of an odd schedule, I train on a 2-week cycle, in which I mix in circuit training with free weights, a stability ball, bands, etc. at home. When I strength train, I tend to do full body workouts but place an emphasis on upper body on one session, and then vice versa. The only rule I have is to avoid lots of lower body work the day before a LR. I don't want to take up lots of space here, so I'll post my 2-week rotation on the Ohana thread--and I just know you want to visit us! :goodvibes
Btw, it looks like your schedule has plenty of training in it already!!! :rotfl2: I love how you talk about rounding out your day. And thank you, again, for suggesting the Pilates DVD. Now if my schedule would just accommodate a class. Maybe in a couple of months.... And excellent job on your 5 miler! You must be feeling pretty good about the Minnie.
Carrie: I'm so excited to hear about your Chi Running workshop. My back hurts sometimes, too, although not when I've been running recently. I lead a fairly sedentary life, with lots of time in chairs & with a laptop. I slouch too, so I think the effort to adjust our posture might cause the pain. I think our muscles are weak. Okay, maybe just mine. I'll be interested to hear what your instructors say.
Betsy: I'll need to pop over the RR thread, but I want you to know that i posted info about the UrbanDare event, which has a Pittsburgh race, on my SP team. I'll be in Cleveland that weekend, but I'm hoping someone I know does it. It sounds like such fun!
Tracy: Thanks for the picture--name with face, etc.! It sounds like you're doing well with the training, especially in taking those overpasses into consideration. (Near the race, all I could think was "another one?" :scared1: That is, when I was thinking at all.)
Liz: That's great about the ebbing shin pain, not to mention your pace in light of it, the ever-present Chicago-area wind, and some hills. I hope today's walk goes as well as yesterday's.
Joan: Excellent run, and it sounds like you're closing in on your pace for the Minnie. :woohoo: I wouldn't be surprised if you exceeded your goals.
Angie: Oh, I'm sorry to hear about your DS and food poisoning. I bet your mom feels just awful, too. But, as usual, you persevere. You're a strong, strong woman. And I just have to say about your 5K/15K...wow! It's so cool you're doing the 5K with your mom--talk about a bonding experience--and then the 15K for yourself. That's going to be one heck of a weekend of memories! :cool1:
Scott: Losties are cool, right? Or at least proud of their geekiness. :goodvibes You and Amy should SO do an Urban Dare. I'd be--what's the word--oh yeah, jealous. (Gee, I hope both Amy and Aloha Jeff are listening.) And, Sweet Monkey Sundae, those sports kilts rockl!
Leana: I think you're onto something about the shin pain. I don't wear heels myself, unless you count boots, but it makes sense.
Shan: I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. I know you'll rock. So, how do you feel about the operation in general? What's it entail in terms of recovery? (No real details, I have a weak stomach. In many ways--hah!)
As for me: Okay, in my weird & crazy world, the day goes like this. I decide to bag the run today. I'm still feeling lethargic (have since Monday), and generally unmotivated. And I've shifted my schedule around this week so my LR is on Friday and the whole week is screwy. So I XT today before going about with the rest of my schedule. But on the pedestrian commute home it's nice & sunny. I'm regretting not running. So what do I do? I run the last mile of my commute--in jeans, with my messenger bag tossed across my chest. Luckily, I'm wearing sneakers.
And what did I learn? I get very sweaty running in jeans. People stare at you if you run in jeans and aren't trying to catch a bus. Messenger bags are not as comfortable as water belts, especially if they're full. And although I'm small-chested, I still need to wear a sports bra. :lmao:
And more importantly, running--even if it's not far or fast--makes me feel good most of the time. (Monday was just an anomaly.) I didn't break any speed records, but did feel much better about the day & my progress.

MINNIE will be a weekend full of memories and it's kind of becoming a tradition because last year we went and stayed there as a celebration for my graduation and I ran the 15k the morning after my graduation, that could explain my rediculously fast pace last year, I WAS FLOATING ON AIR!!
Scott Funny I just told someone at work last week, I feel like a hamster on the treadmil. As usual, AWESOME TIME!!! MY GOAL IS TO CATCH UP WITH YOU AND AMY FOR MINNIE!!! :dance3:

Okay, don't hate me...
We had a nice last circle island tour in our van, before getting the new truck. We drove from home, to Kailua and Kaneohe, heading up to the North Shore. We stopped for a great garlic scampie lunch, and hit the pools at Turtle Bay (we skipped the golf driving range). Headed to Dole Plantation for a snack, then headed to the dealership.
We finalized all the paperwork, handed over the keys, and learned our van was headed to the "chop shop" for replacement parts. We laughed, and were sad at the same time. Almost 10 years driving the family around in the van, and it comes down to being a salvage parts vehicle. Well, at least it's one less car on the road.
The new ride is pretty sweet. Transfered all the necessary running gear from one car to the other. Shoes, clothes, and energy supplies. I already added on the bumper, a sticker that reads "Marathon Freak", and the Disney Family stickers, and the Mickey Mouse head emblem.
Have a great day everyone.
Here's a picture of the Princesses watching the surf line up at Turtle Bay resort.

Not enough time to comment back on all the posts individually, but you all have been very busy this week!
We have been a little tied up this week with the increase in "events" that are going on throughout the country and here in the Green Zone, so I don't have much to report from my training since I have not been able to do any. Does thinking about running count as training time? Also, we hit 102 yesterday in our compound so even if I could have run, I probably would not have wanted to. :thumbsup2
Best to all and keep up the good work!

Hi all,
I did a training 3 miles this morning (this training is for the Minnie) 3 miles in 43min 20sec. Not to bad and wasn't trying to force anything in my walk. Still trying to concentrate on form.
Way to go! I think it is awesome that you are working so hard on form. That will make such a difference in the long run! Enjoy your birds for me, my Scottish Terror makes putting up a bird feeder feel too much like baiting a trap.
Z- !!! I saw the news about the green zone and immmediately thought of you. I hope you are safe. You put the rest of our excuses to shame! So of all things don't worry about training at the moment!
Shan - I am glad to hear you are feeling better! Continue to take it easy and hydrate. You are going to be fine! As for the suregery, well, after three kids, a flat stomach sounds like heaven. I want one!

OMG, using the kilt pouch for Gels adn such! :rotfl2:
Last night was a rest night. Pinched a nerve in my neck adn could barely hold my head up long enough to pay bills, even after icing. So, I rested. Better today.
I got awful weather news this am. No, we have not been dreaming, this is the longest and coldest winter in 10 years. 8 of teh last 10 years, we've had at least one 70 degree day in March. Not this year. To top it off. there's no chance fo any change in teh weather at all towards spring for at least 2 weeks. :sad1: This is just depressing.

Z - I was just thinking about you yesterday. Please stay safe out there. I want to be able to meet you and your lovely wife in May. :goodvibes BTW, have y'all signed up for the CR yet? I am really getting pumped about doing it.
Carrie - You need to come on a vacation down here to Alabama. We had cold at the beginning of the week, but it is warming up to the 70's now.
alohaJeff - Thanks for sharing all your pictures. You have lovely landscape, and it is your DIS duty to share. ;) Oh and Congrats on the new truck! :thumbsup2
Good luck Atlantans on your marathon/half marathon this weekend. :thumbsup2 Shan, hope you feel better soon.
I know I've missed several, and I apologize, but I have got to get ready for work. :wave2: Everybody else!
I do have a quick question though. (Yeah, another newbie question coming. :rotfl2: ) I did a 3 mile run on Tuesday (the total time was 35:55 :thumbsup2 ), and averaged 12 min. miles. The only thing is that my first mile was 9:45, then my second was around 13:50, and third was a little faster than the second. How do I pace myself? I didn't feel like I was running that fast. Actually, I felt slow because it was my first run since the noneating/nondrinking 5 mile run. How can I start myself out slower, and then speed up instead of vice versa?

03-27-2008, 08:17 AM
Hello everyone! I am sorry I have been completely MIA for several weeks - I have not even posted my miles!:rolleyes1 (I'll fix that before the end of the month) - but life took over in a BIG way for the month of March. I participated in one multi-day conference, and managed 2 of them in the space of three weeks, traveled to Dallas and DC, and had to make up all the days I was missing at work with extra work days. Meanwhile my kids keep coming down with something (at least I've been really healthy, knock wood).
I saw this coming in mid-February, but because this is all so new to me I did not quite realize the impact it would have on my running schedule. I have only been able to run twice a week rather than the 3 times I was doing consistently since January.
On the one hand that is not a big deal - twice a week is way better than none, right? But the thing I have really struggled with is my motivation. Because I have had less time for running, my progress has slowed WAY down. I feel like I have totally plateaued at about 3 1/2 miles, and am having trouble generating the motivation to push through to the next level.
OK - I'll stop whining now! I'm saying all this here to give myself a big kick in the pants! I am running my first race (a 5K) on April 19 so I hope that this will help with my motivation. At least now I am totally confident I can handle a 5K, and that certainly wasn't true a couple of months ago.
Just remind me that I CAN do this! I hope that this is all part of the process!

Carrie...Sending :sunny: your way!
Allie...Great job on your run!
Scott...I have not tried the Snickers yet. I hope to though! :thumbsup2
For me...Yesterday was my scheduled 4 mile run. I actually walked the majority...I just had no energy. My mom and I went to this 1/2 mile track around a soccer field. This woman is 63 and can walk circles around me!!! I always feel so out of shape and slow around here. She is just a bundle of energy. She actually walks faster than I run. Go figure... Anyway... We did it together. Eventhough a lof of it was walking, we were really moving. At least with her I walk faster than when I do it alone. Many times during my runs I'll take walk breaks and they are pretty slow. Not yesterday! Our average pace was 14:43 and HR was a bit lower at 169 bpm. I'm am happy with that. I get done w/ the 4 miles... I'm tired, red-faced, stinky and my mom looks great! Not fair... :upsidedow Overall, I'm pleased though!
Hope everyone has a great day today!!!

Debra - OMG that was too funny! :lmao: You always make me smile.
Z - Take care and certainly don't worry about not training right now.
Carrie & Jen - I'm with you on the depressing weather. We've already hit our high of 36 today and calling for rain changing to snow later. We take the RV in Saturday for maintainence so just hoping for no ice.
AlohaJeff - I absolutely love your pics. Can make it feel just a bit warmer around here.
Scott - love the kilt idea and a sporran would certainly work for gels. Showed it to DS and he was trying to find our family tartan to have one made. :rotfl2:
Hope everyone else is doing well and having a good week.
As for me - only got in 2.2 miles yesterday. Tried starting out too fast which had my shin rebelling plus started feeling cold. Decided not to push it and turned around. Today is core/weight with trainer. Have 6 miles to get in this weekend so think I'll bike tomorrow.
Have a great day!

Debra - Way to fit that run in! Your post was hilarious!
Shan - Hope you are feeling better!
Stacie - Congrats on your 4 miler. Good job on getting it done even though you had no energy. It sounds like the company was great for you. I enjoy my solo runs but I also really like running with someone else to push me a bit more.
Kira - I understand your lack of motivation. It is tough when you don't progress as much as you'd like. Sometimes life takes over though so don't worry about it too much. Good luck with your mojo!
aldisneygrl - How are you keeping track of your runs? Are you using a Garmin or Nike+? Pacing is a tricky thing. It is so easy to go out fast because you feel good, but then sometimes it backfires on you. Was your first mile downhill, then the next uphill? Eventually you'll get the hang of it. Unless you perpetually want to watch your Garmin, as you keep going you'll probably start to get a better feel for your pace.
Carrie - Ouch for the pinched nerve!
Aloha Jeff - Gorgeous picture! Thanks for sharing. The only thing I could rival that with is a picture of the Rocky Mountains. I think that makes a pretty good back drop for running too!
To everyone running ING this weekend - good luck!!!!!
For all of you experiencing cold weather, hang in there! I'm sure spring is right around the corner. Can I say I'm worried about the temps for Minnie? Yesterday I was sweating in 35 deg F weather running in tights and a long sleeve tops and jacket. Had to lose the jacket and I was wishing I had capris on.
I got in 3.17 mi this morning before work and it felt AWESOME!!!! 4 great runs in a row. I'm finally feeling like I'm back and I have the desire to run again. I even knocked 12 seconds off my time from when I ran the same route on Tuesday, and this is a seriously hilly route.
Weights on Monday, running 3 days this week....now wisdom teeth today. Here's hoping I get my LR in this weekend too. Have a great day all!

Allie - Figuring out pacing will come with time. Meanwhile run with a watch and know your markers. ie: this turn should be about 8 minutes into my run. Then if you get ther in 7:30 you know you need to slow down a little. Another way to help learn to pace yourself is to go to a track and time each lap.
Shan - Thank you for asking about my Dad. They were unable to biopsy all of the lesions without surgery. Right now they are trying to determine which surgeons are going to do the surgeries and how they will do the biopsies. Since he is 78 and immune suppressed it is a very complicated process. He has a great attitude though.
I hope your Mom's surgery goes well and that her recovery is quick.
Oh and my check has NOT cleared. I guess it got lost. What a bummer.

AlohaJeff - Um...where do you vacation? :rotfl:
Z - 102..yikes! I saw the news about the green zone as well...be safe.
Cecilia - You ready for Sunday??
Carrie - so sorry to hear about the weather...you guys just can't catch a break. Hope your pinched nerve is better...sending some good WISHes your way!
Allie - I'd just recommend checking your splits more frequently so you can adjust your pace at the beginning of your run. I think the ultimate goal is to "negative split" where you gradually run faster each mile. Nice run though!!
Kira - You totally can do this!! You have enough time to adequately prepare for your 5k and you'll do just fine! Nothing more taxing on the running schedule than traveling and you did great managing twice a week during that timeframe, good job!
Stacie - Geesh..super speedy mom there! I have a huge appreciation for fast walkers...I think it's harder to do than running!
Liz - I was online 30 minutes ago looking up my family tartan :rotfl: I've just got to figure out how to keep the bagpipes in place while running...btw, nice job listening to that shin. You are going to have to let it heal a bit before pushing on it.
Shan - Best wishes to your mom today. I hope all goes well. Glad to see you back to your chipper self after that nasty flu bug. :goodvibes: You are gonna do great on Sunday :)
Leana - Congrats on the successful runs!! Nice streak there! Good luck today with the wisdom teeth...here's hoping for a speedy recovery.
Scott's World - I made it to the FC last night and did 40 minutes on the elliptical. I then did a new 15 minute pilates routine (thanks Amy!) that basically took what I was doing in 30 minutes and made it "flow" (read: no breaks between exercises! Had to get my butt in gear...or is that get my 'powerhouse' in gear?). It was a solid workout and will come in very handy when my time is limited. I realized I have to really jump on the pilates workouts as Minnie is 5 weeks away...and it's in Florida...and it will be hot...and I'll be at the pool...and I can't embarrass Amy (hmmm...maybe that's why she told me about the workout? :rotfl:)
Anyway...have a great day everyone!!

:rotfl:)
Any chance you could share the new routine (or should we check with Amy)? Seeing how Amy has yet to get her webcast classes up and running, doing it the old fashioned printed instruction way may work best.
By the way, I noticed on the website you posted about sports kilts that they do have an official sport kilt fanny pack. Given my Irish heritage, I was leaning towards the St. Patrick tartan, but do you think we should pick one of the more "lime green" colors to use as an official "WISH" kilt? I am thinking either the Braveheart or Irish Clover tartans may work (but do you think the smaller plaid patterns in these would make my butt look too big? :confused3 ).

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
Debra - that is too funny!

Hi guys!
I'm new to WISH!
I plan on running the Disney Marathon with my dad, and am training.
I don't have any stories to tell, except I am up to 4 miles for my LR. I bought new shoes yesterday, so I took a 20 min run/walk yesterday to break them in, and they aren't too bad, but I think I need to change my socks (thinker to fit the shoe). Does anyone have any suggestions?
I got discouraged last night, so I hope that it won't affect me the rest of this week. I am going to try to run when I come home from work (I work nights) to see if that will help me get better, but right now, I'm only running about 3 or 4 days a week, which I know isn't good.
Anywho, I am glad there's a forum for us!

Welcome! :welcome:
I'm new-ish here myself. I'm also training to run the Disney marathon and my longest run has been 4 miles so far, so we have some things in common.
I'm new to running, so I don't have much in the way of advice, but I think it sounds like you're off to a good start. I'm only running 3 days a week right now, since it's all I can really fit into my schedule (I have 3 little ones to look after).
There are a lot of very nice, helpful and very experienced people around here who I'm sure will have lots of advice for you.

Thanks Julie! It makes me feel good that there's someone on my level here, since I don't see many people that are just starting out on here! It would be great to see how we both do together! I assume you are doing one of the events at WDW in 2009? Which one?
I would really like to join the WISH team, and wear the colors when I run my other races. I already have a shirt picked out for when I run the Marathon!! Is that sad?

Welcome MOrgan! Actually, there are a lot of people here working towards tehir first full or half marathon in 2009. FOr those of us who have already done it, we can never experience another first time. So, we love to live vicariously through others. Love to hear about your longest ever runs adn your best times. We're here fro those struggles too, as we have all been there. So, don't be afraid to share just because it seems like you may be a minority. Look forward to hearing more about your training!

:wave2: Welcome Morgan,
I think you'll find quite a few newbies here, including myself. I'm not even working towards a 1/2 yet, just the 15K and I've found the WISHers here to be tremendously helpful. Great advice, support, and encouragement.
Glad you're here.

Hey everyone.
Sorry I have been missing the weekly thread...just so many of them on the go right now I can't keep up.
Life has been so busy, trying to decide if we should go to ToT and Marathon or just Marathon....uggghhhhh
Just wanted to send congrats to Krista and Steve, your baby boy is precious, those photos bring back memories of my 2 ultra sounds. Lots of PD for a healthy pregnancy!!!!
Will catch up later, phone keeps ringing ....well then again I am at work.:lmao:

I was always told that vertical stripes make you slim. I tried to wear those for several years and it didn't work, I guess they left our some info. :lmao:
I would think the biggest problem would be all the females chasing you. I would think your wife might not be to excited about that. :rolleyes1 However it could be a good way to get your pace up.

Hi guys...I'm just so frustrated today :(. My legs started aching like crazy last night and they still ache a bit this afternoon even after a deep tissue massage. It *feels* like over-training....but that doesn't make sense to me! :confused3 I'm not sure why my body is feeling over-trained considering I'm only running 16 miles per week, I'm running on newer sneakers (my fave stand-by Kayanos) and I haven't increased XT by a great deal. I am teaching the same number of classes, taking spin as I've been for weeks now and trying to get pilates in as frequently as possible. It started with bonking on Sunday's LR...and even though I ran a decent 5 Miler yesterday and jumped on the bike trainer for 30 minutes...today I feel lousy. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
I've looked at arranging my schedule better...but with teaching 8+ classes per week I'm locked in.
Bill: I like the idea of Wish Green Kilts! :thumbsup2 How is your pilates work coming along? Do you need recommendations for pilates videos?
Morgan: Welcome! :goodvibes I think you are off to a GREAT start. I actually never run more than 4 times per week...but adding cross training is always a great idea to help keep you injury free and get additional cardio work.
Cecilia, Scott, Shan, ScottH...You guys all psyched for the big race this weekend? How is the weather looking? :sunny:
Scott...As if you'd ever embarass me! Great job with all your workouts this week. As always you inspire and impress me! AND make me laugh  So are you going to don the kilt for the Minnie or do you need to lose a bet first....'cause I'm up for a wager just at the thought of the possibility!

but right now, I'm only running about 3 or 4 days a week, which I know isn't good.
Welcome! Even when I was training for Goofy, I only ran 3 or 4 days a week. We call those other days either XT (cross training: and you would not believe what qualifies for cross training around here.) or REST days. Rest Days are VERY VERY important when you are adding more miles to your runs. Heck, they are always important.
Like most people on these boards, I recommend reading Marathoning for Mortals by John Bingham. Not only is it a fun read, but it covers most of the training basics in language that you can understand. I think he does his training plans based on time rather than miles which is easier for busy people to figure out. Also, I think he only has you running 4 days a week but I could be wrong about that.
Hi guys...I'm just so frustrated today :(. My legs started aching like crazy last night and they still ache a bit this afternoon even after a deep tissue massage.
Oh I have been there!! Ouch ouch ouch. I took it easy a couple days and got very serious about hydration and nutrition and it finally went away. I think in my case, I just wasn't eating enough. I also took ibuprofin every 4 hours for 3 days. It didn't really help the ache, but at least then I could tell everyone I was "taking" something for the pain (don't you hate it when non runners think the answer to pain is a pill and not to figure out what is wrong?)

I wonder if you are getting enough electrolytes, especially magnesium and potassium.
We all take in plenty of sodium, but a magnesium and/potassium deficiency can surely cause cramping and soreness.
I started taking a supplement prior to workouts that I expect will be over an hour long, and haven't experienced the cramping or post workout soreness since.
If you don't like the idea of supplements, foods high in magnesiusm include artichokes, bananas, most beans, spinach. For Potassium, apricot, avocado, kiwi, banana, white and sweet potatos...
Just a thought
Hope you feel better!
Today was 1:30 on the elliptical, and boy is that boring!

Why would Scott need to lose a bet? Then again, he is a real runner. As a back of the pack walker, I was thinking that with a little lime green war paint and a battle axe, I could hold the sweepers at bay. If that failed, it would be a lot easier to moon them with a kilt (ala Braveheart) than with sweaty hi-tech shorts. Plus there would probably be less chaffing than Mr. Spartan who ran the last WDW marathon (at least the BodyGlided areas would be well protected from the sun).

INGers--I just know you're gonna rock your event!!!! :cool1:
Angie: That's a great story about the Minnie. I'm sure you'll have an equally great one to tell this year. I think they should keep the event, if for no other reason than it's "your" race.
Aloha Jeff: I can't believe you've already pimped your new auto before that new-car smell went away. Well, now that you've stored your running gear in it, that smell probably won't last long anyway. :lmao: Your princesses & their smiles--oh my! They're so cute!!!
Z: In your case, thinking about running absolutely counts, and is the least important thing to think about! Do take care of yourself in light of all the other events in your life!!
Carrie: Signing up for posture patrol as we speak. I saw your post & sat up straighter. Now that's some authority you have! I'm sorry to hear about the weather. You folks in Michigan have been hit hard--not to mention Wisconsin, Illinois, and Ohio. I hope it means you will have the perfect summer.
Allie: Yep, the countdown is on! Have I mentioned I'll be 40 in 10 days yet? And in WDW? Don't worry, I'll be mentioning it quite frequently from here on out. I wish I had advice on the pace other than pay attention to your body. And maybe have a regular route you run at least once a week, so you have those visual markers you can check against your time & how your body feels.
Kira: You've had an EXTREMELY busy month, IMO. And you've managed to not only get everything done, but you've kept up your running & avoided getting sick. :thumbsup2 If that doesn't tell you ow strong & motivated you are, then... where is that kick-in-the-pants smilie??? ;)
Stacie: That's so cool that you're walking with your mom. It reminds me of Angie's 5K plans for the Minnie. Close families!! :woohoo: I'm sorry about your energy level, though. Trust me, I know how that feels. I also know what it's like to be the red-faced, stinky one. I like to think my flushed face complements WISH green.
Liz: Take it easy on those shins, especially since you've got a LR coming up. Have you talked with your trainer about exercises for them?
Shan: I hope your mom's surgery went well & she'll recover quickly. And I hope your recovery is nearing 100% and in time for your race.
Leana: Yeah for your runs. I hope your wisdom teeth removal was uneventful, considering, and that you're up to a LR. In the meantime, I was quite impressed with your shaved 12 seconds. It sounds like you're back, and with a vengeance. (Not that that phrase makes much sense...)
Cecilia: I'm sorry to hear that the news about your dad needing surgery. I can see him having a great attitude--like father, like daughter. Can you run the ING, despite the lost check?
Scott: You and Amy are going to have such fun at the Minnie. Don't worry about things, though--I'm sure you'll find a way to embarrass Amy. And she you! :rotfl2:
NEBill & Original Bill: :rotfl2: I think the sports kilts are cool, and I'd pay good money to see a WISH kilt team in action! Count me in on any betting action--and this goes for Scott, too!
Morgan: Add me to the list of people who only run 3-4 days a week, and although I did more for the Goofy (on a RW) I don't think it was necessary in retrospect. I'm transitioning to a run now, replacing my RW with running. I'm also about your distance, so we'll be training buddies almost. :goodvibes I look forward to hearing your stories. About the shoes....sometimes thicker socks work for me. I'll be testing out Injinjis tomorrow, and will let you know how they work for me.
Amy: Oh, Amy. I can't add much to what our resident experts have said. I'd look at your nutrition & hydration first. It was Easter weekend, and your routines probably changed a bit, even if it wasn't particularly noticeable at the time. Have you shifted anything in the order in which you do all your activities? Just thinking about loud. Whatever it is that's causing this, I'm telling it to go away. :wizard: P.S. Now come on, there's nothing Scott can do to embarrass you? I give him much more credit than that! :rolleyes1
Mike: I understand about the elliptical--before my video iPod (and now my gym has individual TV monitors--I used to go a little stir crazy. Intervals & upper-body form drills just aren't the same on one, are they?
As for me: Let's see...Nothing much to report here. Some strength training, a half-hearted attempt at a yoga DVD. (No namaste for for me today.) Tomorrow's my LR, and I'm hoping the rain lets up here. Nothing too earth-shattering in my world.
OH, and have I mentioned I'll be turning 40 in 10 days AND will be celebrating in WDW. :teeth: (Why, yes, I believe I have. I'll just mention it again. And again. And again.)

Thanks for all the encouragement guys! It made a difference (as I knew it would!), and I had a great run today.
And - I finally bought new shoes!!! I got the cool lime-green Asics that I think a couple of you have bought. My old New Balances were on their last legs, and they actually started hurting on my run on Tuesday so I knew it was time. Nothing says motivation like a new pair of shoes.
So I'm back! Yay!
A big hello to Morgan from another newbie! You are pretty much exactly where I am in my training , and you're doing great. You'll find that this is a great place to come for advice and support.
Good luck to everyone with events this weekend! Spring is really coming - I promise.

Hey guys....just checking in. Things went well today. Luckily the teeth came out nice and easy. I've been ordered to rest for a few days so I'm going to enjoy a nice relaxing day at home tomorrow.
Debra - Congrats on turning 40!! Lucky you, getting to have your birthday at the world. I'm turning 30 near the end of May and I plan to celebrate the entire time I'm at WDW for the Minnie. Then I'm looking forward to saying sayonara to my 20s with a night out with girlfriends, but will be spending the actual birthday hiking in the Rockies and staying out at Banff. I figure a big birthday deserves a big celebration!

Hey all WISHers...
I did my "hill" training tonight after work. There is a new park on my way home from work. It is a converted Mount "trashmoor". It is a trash hill that is not being used any longer. One side is open to the public, they put in roads and trails and a horse trail. I did 3 miles in 42min 56sec. I was trying my best to keep racewalking form while going up and down hills, its not that easy. At times I had to broke form just to get up or down the hills. I did keep an average pace of 14min18sec. That is actually a pretty good 3 miles for me especially with the hills involved.
Good WISHes to all of you!pixiedust:
From one INGer (Miami) to the other INGers (Atlanta) - GOOD LUCK and have a great time. Attitude is half the battle!!!! Smile and look up at the finish line so you look fabulous in your photo!!:cheer2:

Fashion Statement:
No way, no how, nobody is every going to get me into a kilt. We 3 were in Edinborough some years ago and the 2 women tried to talk me into buying a formal kilt ensemble to wear to the occasional gala we need to attend. They tried every trick a wife and daughter have in their toolkits, and they did not work. So the rest of you can absolutely forget it.
I've been sick the past 5 days, which it appears is pretty typical in our training group. I fell off, but today did run 1/2 the Minnie on the treadmill, starting at 9:50 for mile 1 and speeding it up a bit each mile, finishing in 44:30, 9:33 per mile. I need to recover and get a couple of 9's to go with the quick days if I'm going to hang with Amy and Scott on May 4.
So many folks are turning in good results it keeps me working hard when I train. As always, Thanks!
Bill

NEBill - I'll get the list of the pilates moves to you...in the meantime, I'm liking the idea of an officially licensed WISH kilt. I like the Braveheart warrior mentality...would we look silly if we painted our faces to match? The biggest dilemma I have with the whole thing is what kind of top to wear??? :confused3 Also, maybe we should see if Body Glide would like to be the official sponsor of the Men's WISH kilt contingent?
Morgan - Welcome!! 3-4 days a week of running is exactly what I've done during training for the full and for the Goofy, so don't think you need to do any more than that :goodvibes: Just add in some nice cardio XT to complement your running...and no it's not sad that you have your shirt picked out already...one of my favorite things to do is coordinate outfits for the races!
Julie - Nice job getting 3 days of running in while taking care of 3 little ones! I can only imagine how hectic that can be :)
Aimster - I really hope your day has gotten brighter...I agree with some others that you should look at your fueling and hydration (where's that blue water bottle at? :) ). You do a TON of exercising and you've done a superb job of training..don't get too down on yourself :goodvibes: So...um...do you like Off Kilter? Does hearing the sound of bagpipes make your heart flutter a little? Were you a Rowdy Roddy Piper fan? ...just wondering...
laxdef69 - 1:30 on the elliptical? wow!
Debra - Amy and I embarrass each other?? Never :rotfl: Should I ask her to tell everyone what happend on stage at Jellyrolls on that post-Goofy Sunday night??? (wait, that may have been more embarrassing for ME LOL) Happy early birthday..you deserve a grand 40th celebration in WDW :goodvibes:
Angie - Looks like we'll be chasing you come May! 3.4 in 30 is an awesome pace!
Kira - Congrats on the new shoes and glad to see that you had a great run!!
Leana - Glad to see the teeth deal went well for you!! Hope the recovery is an easy one!
Tracy - Nice trainig esp with Trashmore lurking in your path! Way to go and thanks for the good luck wishes!
Craig - Best wishes on a good recovery from being sick! Sorry you won't be a member of the Kilt club, but I did notice that they had plaid kilt-like cargos for sale on the same site...
Scott's World - Well, I mixed up the run tonight a bit and did what I dub the "Thursday Night Random Route" (just thought of that). Instead of setting out to run a certain mileage, I decided that I'd do 30 minutes of just running down roads that I don't normally travel. I had no idea of how far I was going and totally made up the course as I went. Turns out that I did 3.52 miles (give or take a hundreth :rotfl:) in 31:05 for a nice 8:49 pace. It was just fun randomly running down roads and trying not to worry about anything except relaxing and enjoying the nice weather we had today. (Sorry to those in the cold...I so WISH you guys would get good weather soon)
Hope everyone has a good night!!

Hi Everyone -
I am really hoping that this scratchy throat is just allergies. :scared: I went to bed at 8 something last night just to be sure that if I am getting sick, I am well rested. The good news is that I didn't feel any worse this morning. (colds ALWAYS feel worse in the morning right right?) The bad news is that I am still feeling really tired. This is not boding well for Sunday. I will still run, after all, I ran a marathon with food poisoning! But I doubt I will beat the Kenyans again this year.
Debra - I dreaded 40 when it came, but I have been surprised at how much I love being in my 40's. Once you get past the birthday part, its all great.
and yes, I didn't know it until I ran my first marathon, but I am a lot like my dad. He is quite the fighter. Only now, 50 years later, are the stories of his years as a special forces officer starting to emerge. I wish I could have heard them as a kid because it explains alot about him and why he did things the way he did.
As for the check, it is for the Peachtree Road Race in July. No cleared check = no race. I am really bummed that mine got lost because I love that race.
Angie - WOW! You are getting super speedy! Congrats!
Dsnyfan21 - Hills are tough. the more you do them, the more you can keep form. Just be careful on the downhills since it is easy to get injured there.
As for running in kilts - ugh. Although I know I have seen people run the peachtree in kilts. (sigh) I think it would be too hot and too bulky. And you know everyone behind you would be wondering just what you had on under there.....

Thanks for all the well WISHes!!
I tend to do all my days in a cluster, as I work nights, and work 3 in a row as a nurse. I do the RW method, and hope to feel some real advancement with it in the coming weeks, especially with all the 5Ks, and possibly a 10 if I can make that my LR for the week (:woohoo: ).
deekaypee- I can't wait to see how you like the socks! I really need help with that, as my feet and hands ALWAYs are the first places that feel heat, and not just friction heat. That happens everywhere at any given time, no matter what I'm doing! Anyway, I digress.
I was able to join Jessica's Rabbits, which is really cool!
I can't wait to make some more "running buddies" along this journey to the BIGGEST personal accomplishment of my life. Sure, other things were great and huge, like school and becoming an RN, but that was out of necessity somewhat. This is for Morgan, and Morgan only. I'm doing it with my dad, only because I really want it, and we both want it. I have been reading reports on others' experiences on the Disney marathon, and I literally CRY! I just imagine myself doing that. I don't know if I can keep from crying while running. The image of me "winning" a real medal and sharing that with my dad and mom (walking the half) just makes me so happy!
Maybe its just PMS. Who knows.
Anywho, since I have been up since 11am yesterday, I think I should head off to bed. Don't talk too much today!

Hi, WISH team!! Happy Friday!! I’m going to attempt to get caught up with everyone, but I’ll offer my apology first for those I miss. :) I do read the thread every day, just haven’t had time to talk. Things are starting to pick up at work (our busy season is April-September) and Stephen’s cousin’s wife had their baby at 33 weeks on Monday morning. Thankfully he is doing fine, but I’ve been spending a lot of time e-mailing family members for updates and trying to track down some preemie clothes for Luke.
Shan—Are you feeling any better?? I hope you are able to get some rest today.
Atlanta ING Runners—Good luck everyone!! Tear that course up!
Amy—Hope your legs are feeling better and you are able to get some much-needed rest. I have no idea how you do what you do all day every day. You are incredible! I agree with everyone else, maybe you are lacking something in your diet.
Scott—I think you could definitely rock the kilt! You definitely have the legs to pull it off. ;) Man, I wish Stephen wasn’t already committed to the Flying Pig; I’d love to see everyone for the Minnie!
Debra—I think I heard that you are having a birthday soon, is that right??? ;) Were you able to get your lr in today? It’s raining here in Cincinnati too, I am so ready for spring it’s not funny!
Angie—You are having a great running week! I am so excited for you to run the Minnie; I know you are going to do awesome. How is work going? A little bit better? Is Bobby’s back still okay?
Kira—Congrats on the new shoes! There is nothing better than a pair of new running shoes. Completely OT, but Stephen and I were debating between naming the baby Maya or Kira if it were a girl. Kind of a moot point (or a moo point if you are a Friends fan :) ) since the baby is a boy, but I wanted to tell you that I love your name!
Leana—I am so glad to hear that your wisdom teeth surgery went so well. Rest up and don’t rush back!! Oh, you keep wearing those heels, girl, don’t listen to Carrie! ;)
Craig and Martha—I haven’t been around much since you guys got back from England, I hope you had a great time! I did see the picture you posted, looks like you were having fun!! I hope you are feeling better soon, Craig and that you didn’t have that nasty flu that’s been going around here. How is your IT band, Martha? Completely healed since the marathon?
Cecilia—Hope you are feeling better! Continued :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for your Dad!!!
GA Jen—We have the opposite last name problem you have, our last name is pretty different and can easily be miss pronounced to sound REALLY obscene!! How are you feeling? Did you have any morning sickness? And about the boy thing, I always thought that I wanted girls, but I am really, really happy to be having my boy. Especially after spending Easter with my nieces—13, 10, 6, 3, and 2—boys have GOT to be easier!!! :)
Christa—Good luck on your TRI!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yay: :yay:
Aloha Jeff—Heard you got a new ride. Must be something in the water, I got a new Mommy car a couple of weeks ago too. No, NOT a mini-van!!!!!! ;) We got a 2008 Hyundai Sante Fe and I love it! Not as much as your pictures from HI though! They (and your family) are gorgeous!
FL Bill—How long have you and Lynnda been married? You should now by now that she is the boss and you are worker bee. :) I hope Timmy’s party comes together, I can’t believe he is already 1!!
NE Bill—While I am American as apple pie and consider myself quite patriotic, we will not be doing the baby’s nursery in a red, white, and blue motif. ;) So are you ready for baseball season to start? Don’t worry, I don’t really follow MLB, but I did see that the Reds are playing the Red Sox this season. Oh, you'll be happy to hear that I got the baby his very first Steelers jersey last month--Troy Polamalu, just like his daddy. ;)
Jen—Did you get that tattoo yet??? ;)
Kristi—I just wanted to give you a  !!!! Love ya, girl!
Carrie—I hope your back is feeling better, maybe if you wore heels that would help. ;) ;) :)
Z—Stay safe!!!!!
Judy—Glad you were able to get outside last weekend. How is the weather looking for tomorrow?
Welcome to all the New People!!!
As for me, things are still going great with the baby. Yesterday he moved non-stopped, I had trouble getting to sleep last night, he was rolling around so much! I haven’t felt much from him today, he must been exhausted from all his exercising yesterday. Can I count that towards training?? :) We bought the baby’s furniture last week, so we’re going to start getting the nursery together, I’ll post a picture of the finished product.
Keep up the awesome job training everyone; I’ll be joining you in a few months! :)

aldisneygrl - How are you keeping track of your runs? Are you using a Garmin or Nike+? Pacing is a tricky thing. It is so easy to go out fast because you feel good, but then sometimes it backfires on you. Was your first mile downhill, then the next uphill? Eventually you'll get the hang of it. Unless you perpetually want to watch your Garmin, as you keep going you'll probably start to get a better feel for your pace.
I do have a Garmin, but it is a handheld Etrex. I think it is the model that hunters usually use. It was my husbands before he upgraded, so it was free. :goodvibes That was why I questioned my pace. I keep it on the screen with the mileage, then when I hit my mile mark, I switch it to the time. At mile one it said 9 min, and some seconds. Then mile two it said 22 something. Then I ended at 35:55. This is why I want a Forerunner because I have trouble doing the math while running. :teacher: I think running takes all my thinking ability away. :rotfl2: All my running was pretty much flat. There was a moderate hill during mile two.
Cecilia
I don't always run the same way. I was told to change it up because you don't want to become a target. I live in a small town, but I just want to be safe.
Allie - I'd just recommend checking your splits more frequently so you can adjust your pace at the beginning of your run. I think the ultimate goal is to "negative split" where you gradually run faster each mile. Nice run though!!
I will just need to check my pace more often. I try not to keep looking at the Garmin, but I can't help myself. I NEED a forerunner, so I can stop doing the math in my head, which isn't working to well for me. :sad2:
Allie: Yep, the countdown is on! Have I mentioned I'll be 40 in 10 days yet? And in WDW? Don't worry, I'll be mentioning it quite frequently from here on out. I wish I had advice on the pace other than pay attention to your body. And maybe have a regular route you run at least once a week, so you have those visual markers you can check against your time & how your body feels.
OH, and have I mentioned I'll be turning 40 in 10 days AND will be celebrating in WDW. :teeth: (Why, yes, I believe I have. I'll just mention it again. And again. And again.)
40 in WDW, what can be better than that? Uh, taking your friend who is also celebrating that fabulous milestone...:rolleyes1 Hope you have a wonderful time! It's Disney, of course you'll have a fabulous time! I expect a full report when you return.
Thanks to everyone for your feedback. It is just something else I am going to have to learn how to do. I did do my speedwork yesterday. I did the math in my head as far as the distance. Remember how I have said that running and math don't mix for me? :teacher:  Well, when I finished my last 1/4 mile walking (after the half mile of running faster), I realized that I miscalculated my distance by 1/4 mile. I was like  , but I kept going because I felt good, and the road was fairly flat, but I was running into the wind. Well, I ended up my 4.25 miles in 56:35. I still can't figure out my pace because, I don't know how to figure it with that .25 mile. I need round numbers. :rotfl: So if anybody wants to take the challenge, please let me know what my average pace was. :goodvibes

Morning teammates. Sorry to be MIA again, but this SAHM worked 30+ hours already this week. What's up with that? So, also not much in the way of workouts either. Did get a short run in on Wednesday and today will be yoga. But then I have to take DS to the dr. He's got some croupy cough and congestion bit--know it's mostly due to allergies/pollen, but the OTC meds aren't cutting it.
Hope everyone is well. We planned a trip to Disney this morning--unfortunately, it's not race related. We scrapped our ToT trip after seeing the entry fee:eek: So now we're going for a long weekend at the end of September.:yay:
Okay, need to get out the door to yoga. Have a great Friday all. And to all racing tomorrow or Sunday--Run like the wind!!!!! WISHing you all the best of luck!:cheer2:

Thanks Scott! Wow! I have a 10K that I'm training for in May. A friend of mine had her husband fill me out a training plan, and I am supposed to do a 13:50 mile this month, and I have been faster than that all month. I'm so pumped! We may have to readjust April's training.
Thanks for taking the challenge and letting me know my pace! :thumbsup2
Thanks for the website too! I'm gonna have to go check that out. I'm at home with a sick kid, so I have some time to look. Although, she hasn't been acting too sick since she got home. :rolleyes1

Amy - While you are doing the same thing, maybe it's just taken this long to take it's toll. I think your body is tired. You know me, though, my best solution for all is rest. ;)
Krista - :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Maybe I should get some stillettos thsi weekend. They can double as ice picks with teh weather we still have :sad2:
Debra - Mention teh trip and you will be required to take me with you!! ;) Sitting up straighter now. That accoutnability thing makes a world of difference.
Morgan - Your post gave me goose bumps. I sobbed the first tiem I crossed the line. Funny, I have a degree, I have a Professional ENgineer's licence, I'msure there are other things to be proud of, but the marathon truely was the biggest accomplishment for me.
Stephanie - I think our definitiosn of SAHM differ. ;) SOrry you've had such a rough week!
Cecelia - Ut oh. :wizard: :wizard: Pixie dust that it's just allergies.
I did 40 min last night. 40 degrees adn rain. DOn't worry, though, it was white by mornig. My neck acted up half way through. Ran into a fiend who's doign Boston, though, os ran a half mile with him. Nice distraction at least. Going fo ra massage after work in hopes it will help.
Have a great weekend all! Good luck to all racers, especially INGers!

HI guys..
First of all THANK YOU :goodvibes for all the great advice....I really think that I'm lacking enough water for one thing. Also, during Goofy training I was taking supplements and stopped after training (oops). Maybe I should start taking them again :). I appreciate all your feedback....that's one of the things I *LOVE* about WiSH.
PD for your neck Carrie! I hope that massage helps :).
Krista: Awww...you have a little runner in there!!! Please do post pics of the nursery. I'm soooo excited for you guys!!!
Stephanie: Cool about the September trip!!!! :sunny:
Morgan: Yay! You're on our team!
Cecilia: OH NO! Rest up girl...I'm sure it's just allergies. Sending you TONS of Pixie Dust that you feel 100% come race morning. Thanks for the advice on the nutrition and water too :).
Scott: Embarassing? What singing and dancing on stage at Jelly Rolls. Nah! Just a day in the life with me ;). BTW...great workouts this week!!!
Craig: WHAT No Kilt??? Oh c'mon now...if it's good enough for Mel Gibson and Off Kilter....:confused3
Debra: 40 is the new 30....can't wait to hear about your trip to WDW for your b'day!!!! Although I have to admit we'll really miss you around here! Thanks again for the info on your training. I'm so impressed with your workouts!!!! :thumbsup2
Angie! OMG...what a FAST run you had! No worries....I'll be chasing YOU for sure!!! WTG...I'm so thrilled for you!!!
Christa: How is that taper coming along ;). I will be thinking about you this weekend during your tri and I can't wait to read your race report!!!! How is your mom doing btw .
OK guys...as for me I taught a Pilates Tone class this morning and included a lot of stretches...so that was nice :cloud9: . Afterwards I jumped on the treadmill for 4 miles of speedwork: 1/2 M warm-up @ 10:00 mpm; Mile @ 8:00 mpm; 1/2 M @ 9:30 mpm recovery; Mile @ 8:20 mpm; 1/2 M @ 9:30 mpm recovery and cool down at 10:00 mpm for another 1/2 M. Phew! Unfortunately my left foot on the instep is hurting. :sad2: Feels like a sore tendon or muscles...it's been like that since spin class on Tuesday. I'm icing now and hoping for the best on my LR on Sunday!!! My legs aren't 100% yet...slightly achey...but I'm hoping increasing fluids and better nutrition will take care of that. Thanks again for the advice everyone! :grouphug:

Hi all,
Back from Utah and feeling crappy! Head cold! 4-6" of fresh snow! (I'm hoping if I use all exclamation points, it will make me feel cheerier--it's not working!!!)
Anyway, the vacation has made me lose all sight of the fact that I actually could run. It seems so foreign now--and I wasn't expecting that. I ran 3 painful miles today--shins/ankles felt tight. Could be just residual muscle strain from hiking--that was pretty taxing. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I'm nervous now about being able to do my LR this weekend--it's the longest of my training plan (7 mi) and now I'm not very confident.
Well-better go rest. Heading downtown to see Wisconsin play DAvidson and Kansas play Villanova in the Sweet 16.

Cecilia, hope it is just allergies and the rain will take care of that for you before Sunday! :wizard:
Angie, great run! Go Hercs! :cheer2:
Happy upcoming birthday Debra! Have fun in WDW! We'll be there soon, too! :yay:
My Mom's surgery went well - thanks for all the pixie dust!
Still continuing to feel better, but my energy is still not completely back. I ran 2 miles this morning in 21:22 and I felt very weak. I'm actually quite concerned about Sunday. If I can barely run 2 miles how am I gonna run 13.1? I also had another coughing fit after I was done. I kidded with DH that I might need an oxygen tank after it is all over, but I actually might!
I'm kinda sad I don't feel as strong as I did when I ran my 12 miler, but I'm determined to do it even if I have to walk. It is gonna be hard for me not beating myself up if I don't hit my goal time.
Have an awesome weekend WISHers! :grouphug:

Maura - We only got a couple inches. I am so jealous of you. (Are you catching the sarcasm???) Ugh. Have fun this weekend! I'm sure those legs are just still hurting from teh hikes.

Hi guys!
I got some medal scoop from the Disney rep at the ING expo. I did not realize that there were going to be new medals for both the full and the half in 2009. She said they have not finalized the plans but to expect them to look similar to the 2008 Goofy medal. I think they will look fantastic!
My throat is starting to hurt and I am exhausted from my trip to the expo but I am excited about the race.

OK Shan I am going to give you some advice that I had to learn the hard way.
BACKGROUND:
Whe I ran Charlotte in Dec. I wanted to run sub 4...I know I can. My 1/2 marathon times in races and all my 20 mile training runs pointed to it. Well during the marathon, I got real sick. Had to stop on the side to...well anyway. I was sick. I finished in 4:22. That almost killed me. Then my mom reminded me why I ran. Not to set PRs but b/c I LOVE RUNNING.
Advice:
Why make something you love into something stressful. My mom also told me that you do not always get to choose the conditions you race under. You did not choose these conditions, but you will still run. Adjust your goal and have fun.
I totally understand your situation. I understand the weeks of training under your belt. But just do what you can do and you will have a great story.
I hang my Charlotte marathon medal in my office. Had a parent ask if I hung it up b/c it was my best time. I told him I hung it up b/c it was my greatest race..the race that took the greatest struggle to get to the finish line. the race that took the greatest sacrifice.

Christa: Thanks for reminding us why we do these things! Sometimes I get hooked on beating my times and have to sit back and say I am doing it because of the joy I get from finishing!! I know I will never "win" (I am a walker") so I try to beat times. At my Fort Lauderdale A1A Half I had a bad time because I was sick the week before. Towards the end I had to remind myself I was doing it for me and to relax and just finish!! I had a better feeling about it after I put that in my head.
Thanks again!!:thumbsup2

GOOD EVENING TEAM
I'm back!! 24 hours late but I'm here:
Kira G. I might be a little late on this but: YOU CAN SOOOO TOTALLY DO THIS!!! I have really struggled with motivation lately, bad runs, DH can't train with me anymore, just keep pushing!!!!
StacieI'm so glad that you do have your mom to walk with you. It really does help to have someone who will help you push yourself. DH & I trained together last year ( all our "firsts - as far as races") and he REALLY made me push myself to keep up with him. Now I am starting all over after surgery and he can't train with me anymore. But because he helped me push myself the first time around (when I REALLY thought I couldn't do it) now this time I know I can I just have to reach inside myself. I'm sorry you get frustrated. Please try to focus on YOUR accomplishments!!! Good job doing 4!!!
Liz I hope your shin is ok and your workout went well today.
Morgan:welcome: We are so glad you are here. You will love it!!! It looks like we have a lot in common. I just FINALLY graduated from college a year a go, which was a huge accomplishment and then ran my first races that year  and it felt so good to do all that for ME!!!!
Debra I AM SOOOOOO Glad you are going to Disney for your 40!!!!! What better place to celebrate!!! :cool1: (Plus I don't feel so wierd for celebrating my college graduation there now :rotfl: )
Leana Glad that you feel like "you are back" with running, I LOVE that feeling. And I'm glad the wisdom teeth went well -- mine was a nightmare when I did it.
Tracy Good job on the hill work, hills what are those :confused3
Craig I hope you feel better, but if not you can just run with me :flower3:
Scott I sooooo WISH I could do that and just run for time but my obsessive compulsive personality and no Garmin just won't let me :lmao:
Cecilia I really hope you feel better!!!!
Krista OOHHHH  Sooo exciting to feel that baby in there. Work is not so great, but it's ok. Bobby's back is better but because he stopped running and works his core and stretches really good everyday. So the good news is he's fine, the bad news is I will be doing my first full without him :sad2:
Allie Sounds like you had a good pace, glad you have been doing better than you thought :yay:
Stephanie Sorry you had to work so much  September sounds like fun though. Great time to go, not crowded at all!!!
Carrie Hope the massage helped
Amy I'm glad you are doing better and your treadmill work out ROCKED!!!! I still have a lot of work to do to keep up with you guys at MINNIE!! BTW - I need that work out of Scott's because we will be at CS pool ( my kids LOVE that pool) and I need to look my best too  )
Maura It's like riding a bike, we never forget. I hope your run goes well this weekend.
Shan I SECOND AND THIRD what Christa said!!!! But I know you must be sooooooo frustrated with this being your first race. I am sooo sorry my friend
OK MORE AWESOME TRAINING REPORT FOR ME. I got up at 4 :scared1: - as I do every Friday to go to the gym before work to do Body Pump (weights) but decided to run on treadmill first.
Mile 1: 10 min warm up
Mile 2: 9:15 pace
Next .75 mile: 8:34 pace
last .25 mile: 8:06 pace !!!!! :yay:
.3 mile : 10 min pace cool down
WOW is all I have to say. I just want to jump on my soap box for a minute. Someone earlier in the week said half the battle is ATTITUDE and I am here to tell you IT'S TRUE!!!! I have been so frustrated with my runs the last couple of weeks ( because of how far I had come before surgery). yesterday I was sitting at work and I thought, "you know what, rather than be mad that I can't do what i want at MINNIE I am just going to do it" I know it sounds so cliche and easier said than done, but it's true!!!!! Just believe, you can do it.
OK off box now
For all INGer's --- GO WISH TEAM!!!!

Scott - Snickers Marathon bars - ha! DD fell in love with them, then suddenly they're nowhere to be found. Checked their website for availability, and there's not a store in NC that sells them anymore. Apparently the rest of you can have them, but we can't?
Kira - Yes, you CAN do this! Your 5K will be a great accomplishment.
Leana - Glad the wisdom teeth went well. Follow the doc's orders and REST!
Morgan - :welcome: I run 3 days a week (when things go well), and I run/walk as well. I wear the Injinji socks and absolutely love them.
Debra - Can I just say that I'm jealous that you get to celebrate 40 @ WDW? I hit that one a few years back, but I'd gladly celebrate the next one there. DD is there now for spring break - I got calls from Mission Space, Soarin', Off Kilter, and then a picture of a Dole Whip all today! (Add a call from Haunted Mansion)
Angie - YOU ROCK!!!!
Maura - I'm watching the games on TV while typing this post. Go Davidson!
Shan - Glad your mom's surgery went well. I'm completely confident that you can finish 13.1 on Sunday. Don't worry too much about your goal time - your goal is to finish, then be happy with whatever happens beyond that!
Cecilia - Sending pixiedust: your way to chase the cold/allergies away until after Sunday!
Amy - Your energy level is amazing. Just reading your posts makes me feel like a slug - oh, maybe that's because I have been a slug lately...
Jen & Carrie (& all the others suffering thru the longest winter on record) - It can't last forever, can it? Jen - you can come camp down here, although it's kinda far for a weekend trip...
I have no running to report. I've had the cold/allergy stuff since last weekend and have suffered from a huge lack of motivation with it. I'm feeling like 5K's are my speed right now, at least until the Galloway season starts on May 3rd. I think my body just wants a break, so I'll keep the distance short until I have to run with the group.

Claire Actually -- the morning thing is another accomplishment for me, I AM NOT!!!!! A MORNING PERSON. But... I feel so much better and like myself better when I am consistent and trying to balance a full time job and 2 kids, early morning was my last choice :scared1: It has gotten easier to get up, I swear
Jackie I was just thinking about you today, wondering how you were doing. I'm sorry to hear about the Snicker bar dilemma in you area, we just finished another box in our house, those and the Snicker's energy bars are a staple!!! I hope you are better soon!!!!

I meant to post this earlier, but "Princess Puke" (see my post from this morning if you don't know what I'm talking about) was taking up my time earlier. She's fine, but just wanted her mom.
Stacie - Wow your mom is speedy! Glad you got to spend some mother/daughter time though. Glad you HR was lower too. :goodvibes
Shan - Glad to hear your mom's surgery went well. :goodvibes Hope you feel better. You will do great on Sunday. Just finishing is a HUGE accomplishment! :thumbsup2
Disney Dudet - :welcome: I'm a newbie too! :goodvibes These people are the nicest most knowledgeable people around, and they are ready to share it any time. They haven't kicked me out yet for asking too many questions. :rotfl2:
Amy - Since I'm new to this running thing, I don't have anything to offer about your legs, but you have gotten some good advice for places to start. Definitely up your water drinking. That will help in sooo many ways. Good luck! :goodvibes
Angie -Congrats!! I can only dream of that kind of time. :cloud9:
Kira - Congrats on your new shoes! Happy Running!
Tracy - Great job on your hill work! :thumbsup2
Cecilia - Atlanta is in full bloom, so hopefully it is allergies! Drink, Drink, Drink!! I view all the allergens washing out of my body. Good luck Sunday! Hope they find your check for the Peachtree. :goodvibes
FOR ME: Well I picked up my race packet for my race tomorrow, and let me just say I'm very confused about the map for the race. I sure hope I don't get lost. :sad2: Actually it isn't a very big Botanical Gardens, but I can't exactly figure out how the race is laid out. As in are we running continuous laps around it, or are we looping back. :sad2: I just have the memory of me and DD running the race at Halloween where they started taking up the arrows before we finished. I don't want that to happen again. :guilty:
Oh and I got a call from Sandy321 today, and she is in Chicago ready to run on Sunday, or at least she's there, and she will run. :lovestruc She had a little mishap last week with some ham, and a large carving knife, and her finger was the poor recipient. She didn't get stitches even though she probably needed them, but she IS doing fine now. She says to tell everyone HI! :wave2:

We actually attempted to find this out at the Expo. I have to be honest they seemed unable to tell us. I am making Randy put my cell number on his bibb so that he can call me. (He is not taking a phone but I think I have convinced him that it won't KILL him to ask someone at the water station to call me! LOL!)
There are sweeper buses but that's at 7 HOURS on the FULL!!!!
(Randy has pulled a muscle in his hip and has refused to listen to reason... He won't change to the half. And he does not have your great attitude! He is already pouting!!!! I am avoiding him LOL!)

My family would not agree with you about my attitude and since all three kids opted to go to the trail with dad, I suspect they are all avoiding me too.
Sudafed is making life tolerable. I still can't decide if this is a cold or just wicked allergies but whatever it is, it has totally zapped all my energy. Unfortunately, all three kids have games today and they are spread across North Atlanta (Canton, Alpharetta and Duluth!) so there is no rest for the weary today.

Oh I forgot! I talked to the guy at Marathon Tours yesterday and they still have tons of entries for the half and for Goofy. You have to book your room through them, but I thought the prices looked pretty reasonable.
So that of you that want the pretty new medals still have a chance!

Krista - Glad to see that you are doing well :) Preemie shopping sounds like fun! Baby clothes are the coolest things in the world :) Hope their baby is doing well. Are you theming out the nursery?? black and gold?? ;) Tell Stephen we said 'hello!'.
Stephanie - awesome news about the WDW trip! Late September is the best time to go IMO. I'm with you on the prices of the Disney races lately...esp the shorter ones. Just no reason to charge that much for 5ks, 10ks, 13ks & 15ks.
Carrie - hope the massage helps things out, especially your neck :) We need to get you guys some warm & dry weather up there.
Maura - Wow...Utah and then the NCAA tourney! Sorry to hear about the shin/ankle pain...take care of things and don't push too much. Got any pictures from the trip??
Shan - Hey, I'm glad your mom's surgery went well. Have fun at the expo today and be sure to drink lots of water!! Not much longer now :goodvibes:
Christa - Awesome post. I hope things are going great for you during your Tri this morning!! I'm totally with you on the medals that mean the most are the ones that tell a personal story. I'm looking forward to hearing about your success today :)
Angie - Wow those runs are really coming together for you!! NICE!! You're gonna have no problem in May...looks like we're gonna be chasing you to the finish!
Jackie - Hmmm...I think we all need to ship you some boxes! Is it against the law to import Snickers Marathon Bars in NC?? :confused3
Allie - Hope things went well in your race today!
Kristen - Glad to see that you have that desire to get those workouts in..that's over half the battle :) Hoping the shin splints stay away this time.
Cecilia - Hope you get better quickly...although running on Sudafed could prove to be an interesting experience...
Amy - Sweet run there buddy! I know you've got that foot pain issue going on right now, please remember to take care of it and not push. the starting lines of the Minnie races is the goal...we'll have fun with it from there :goodvibes: Hope you have an awesome weekend...and thanks for being so cool about the half tomorrow. Your support means the world to me
Scott's World - Not much to report other than a 30 minute elliptical workout last night and a 4 mile brisk paced dog walk this morning. I may throw in another light workout this afternoon as a final prep for tomorrow's race.
Good luck to all those racing, I hope everyone has a good weekend!!

I am a total lump on a log and skipped yoga this morning. I have only missed it when I had to work on a Saturday. But I have a good reason! I went to see Lifehouse last night and they were fabulous. So, umm, were all the beverages I indulged in! :lmao: I didn't get home until 2am, so I stayed in bed until 11 when Chad left for work.
That's my excuse and I am sticking to it! :rotfl:
I will do a DVD w/o or two tonight when Zack goes to bed though.

Well I am back from the missing.......
I trained for the first time in two weeks (Unless you count climibing the Towers of Notre Dame.... When you panic half way up the stairs because you have to LET go of the railing, your heart rate does get a work out LOL! Plus it's 400 stairs. I was pooped!)
My training plan called for five miles today. Now I am not in the shape some of you are so I can't just go from "Nada" to five miles. So I decided it's time to get real! I am probably NOT going to run the Minnie. I am going to finish. I just will have to walk.....some....
So I started working on some ideas today. Jogged the first mile and then started putting some walking in. THat worked out OK until about 3.5 when I ran out of energy. I walked to 4. Joggged and walked the last mile. BUT overall my time was 1 hour 3 minutes for five miles so not too bad for a slow poke. (Whats the sweelp time for Minnie? I have to go check!) It's getting hot and humid here.... I am going to have to get moving earlier in the morning!
I hope those of you doing ING have a great race. I will be at the finish until 11 handing out water and cheering.... Of course since I am waring my company shirt I will look just like everyone else LOL! But I know most of your names and will look for you! Good LUCK!!!!!!
This thread FLEW while I was off playing hooky, I will try to do better next week!

Hey all, Sounds like most are doing good with training, some are having alittle motivational issues. Well, keep it up everyone!! Hang in there.
I did a 3 mile walk this morning and then up and down some bleachers at a spring scrimmage for the University of Miami football team. (Ha more hill work for me:rotfl2: ) I'll do a 6 mile walk 2morrow
Again, good luck to all the INGers. I remember at the Miami ING there was a 16min mile pace. First they would start opening roads and you would be forced to use the sidewalks and cross traffic on your own. I know the finish line was open for about 7-8 hours, so I don't think it the min pace was strikly inforced, but then again I wasn't that close to the very back for the Half portion so I am not totally sure.

Carol...thanks in advance for volunteering tomorrow :) I volunteered last year and it was a rewarding experience, I hope things go well for you too!! Good luck to Randy, sounds like it's gonna be a tough race for him...hope it turns out well.
See ya at the finish! (Hopefully prior to 9am :rotfl:)

Cecilia, I'm so sorry you are sick!
What corrals did all the INGers get in?
I'm in 6. :lmao:
DH is in 4, but signed up for a pace group so that moved him up to 3.
Wow, the guy working the Disney booth had the personality of a wall.
We literally stood there like six inches from his face and picked up all the flyers and he never said one word to us. DH even had on his RFTT shirt.
Good luck everyone! :cheer2:

Angie: Your PRs just keep coming & coming. I'm so happy that you're firmly in the running groove. 3.4 in 30!! And then your Friday pace--wow, you're approaching 8 mpm! So I guess I won't mention that I think 4 a.m. is reason enough for either :worship: or :upsidedow.
And yay! for celebrating your college graduation at Disney. I've celebrated most milestones in my life there--engagement, marriage, divorce, chemo recovery, re-engagement & marriage, birthdays. It's kind of warped, really.
Kira: Loved your statement...nothing says motivation like a new pair of shoes. So true! And yea for lime-green shoes. Double motivation!
Tracy: WTG with your hill work. And I'm particularly impressed with your doing form work will also doing hill work. How do you keep your focus on both? And bleachers? My knees would rebel.
Craig: I'm sorry to hear you're sick, but it sounds like you managed to keep up your training as well as can be expected. I don't think you'll have any problem hanging with Amy & Scott with the training you already have under your belt. :thumbsup2
Scott: The Thursday Night Random Route. I think I used to do one of those, back in the day. Except it involved bar hopping and not running. Yours sounds healthier, although I probably get more mileage out of my stories. :rotfl: But I like the idea of running just for fun, appreciating the journey. I might try it sometime.
So let me understand this--you have a race tomorrow & you're double-dipping on the WOs today??? Wow.
Cecilia: Oh, I hope you're feeling better by Sunday--even though it's obvious you're one tough cookie, it would be nice to compete with the Kenyans (she says in theory). I hope you get your energy back...soon!
Too bad about the Peachtree (I had the events messed up), too. Btw, it sounds like your dad is a strong, fascinating person whose stories would be really illuminating about himself & the culture. Oh, and thanks for the skinny on the new Disney medals and the Goofy (still tempting, even though I'm in for the full)!
Morgan: I know we're just getting to know you, but it sounds like you're very dedicated to running, what with working around your work schedule & all. And I know what you mean by the marathon RR being very emotional stuff--the experience is (and will be) too! As for the Injinji socks, I found that they worked okay for me & can see why so many WISHers recommended them. The individual toes take a bit getting used to, but would help prevent blisters for most people, I think. Unfortunately, I've VERY subject to blisters and the socks made one area--my right big toe--worse because that's where a seam is on the sock. Since that's an area where I have a tendency to get blisters, my assessment of the socks is neutral. Again, though, I think the Injinji socks would work for most people.
Krista: Thanks for question about the b-day; so you heard, did you? ;) Congrats on the new baby in the extended family!! It looks like your son will have a playmate close in age for family reunions. :goodvibes I can't wait to see the nursery pics!
Allie: I'll be taking you with me to WDW in spirit, does that count? :lmao: What I'm most excited about is that the trip is DOOD's gift to me, and I'll be getting together with friends. I celebrated my 30th there (and some other things at the same time) and now my 40th. I just think it should be an annual event. And I definitely think you should go for or near your b-day!
I see that Scott already provided the Cool Running link--I rely on it. Math is not my strong suit, so I'm glad to have it available. I just know you're gonna love it, too! I'm sure your race route will become clear on the course, but I'll keep my fingers crossed just in case. P.S. I hope DD feels better and thanks for the update on Sandy.
Stephanie: Sorry to hear you've scrapped the ToT event & even sorrier about DS. Great news about your September trip, though.
Carrie: I WISH I could take you with my to WDW, too! (And all my friends--say, let's meet up in January 2009!) Yea for the 40 minutes, boo to the 40 degrees & rain. And double BOO for the neck pain. Did the massage help?
Amy: And I think for me, 40 is the new 12--I've got a pretty bad case of Peter Pan syndrome. Except I can't stand Wendy--she's such a nag. As for your WOs, how did you decide on your training program for the Minnie. I'd have to check, but it sounds similar to DOOD's in its speedwork, etc. Just curious. I'm more curious about how you're feeling--is the hydration & nutrition having a positive effect??
Maura: :rotfl: because of the exclamation points comment. It almost works for me! If it makes you feel any better, mentally if not physically, I do think it's reasonable that you're feeling tired from all the hiking & that it was using your muscles differently.
Shan: No beating up of yourself about the race. Remember, you're a WISHer and one of our heroes!
Christa: I don't know if I've ever told you this, but you really do have the ability to motivate & inspire people. You remind me of this life coach I know...in a good way. Good luck today!
Jackie: Awww, don't be jealous of the trip. You'll be with me in spirit! :rotfl2: Btw, I think DD's calls & the pic of Dole Whip is both sweet & unusually cruel--she owes you a trip! About your running...I think you're right to take this as a little running break, keeping to 5Ks until training begins. That way you don't burn out. Maybe you could try Scott's Thursday Night Random Route idea?? (I really do like it.)
Kristen: Ain't it great when exercising becomes one of the good things about the week? :) What are you doing for training? Just curious.
CarolA: Wow, I hope Randy makes it through all right. I love the cell phone on the bib idea--I may use that in future events. Good luck to him. Thanks so much for volunteering at the ING water station! :goodvibes
Kristi: Sometimes you just need to hydrate yourself in other ways in order to appreciate water, right?
As for me: Because I did my LR yesterday--7 miles--today was XT. I didn't want to, but next week is yet another week where my days are messed up. This time, it's because of the (oh, you knew this was coming) Disney b-day trip. Since I'm not planning on doing much other then running to rides next weekend, I'm trying to get some good training in now.
Luckily, today's weather is sunny if brisk, so I also decided to take the opportunity to explore (by walking) new areas in our wider neighborhood. We're going to need to start house-hunting soon, and I figure walking the area is a small step forward in that direction. I thought, I'll do my WO at the FC, then walk to Squirrel Hill (area we might want to settle down in) and treat myself to lunch. So on the way to the FC I ask DOOD about this one avenue that I know he's run down: how far it is between our FC & Squirrel Hill? He says it's really close, no more than a 1/2 mile. He does feel it worth noting there's a steep hill along the way.
I know he's wrong in terms of distance, in part because I've driven on the road and in part because he's such a long-distance runner he's got no sense of short distances. But I figure....how far off can he be? So after working out at the FC, I start walking. And walking. And walking. It turns out that his 1/2 mile is closer to 1 1/2 miles. Now, that's not a big deal, really. Except I've already worked out for over 2 hours and am walking on tired legs. And it's lunchtime & I'm hungry. Oh, and I'm walking up & down several, not one, Pgh hills. :lmao:
So what did I learn today? Certainly, I didn't learn to avoid walking that route. It's beautiful & a really short distance in the overall scope of my pedestrian life; plus, the side streets will well worth further exploration in terms of housing. But I did learn not to trust DOOD on estimating distances. I can't imagine what might have happened if I'd asked him for his favorite SR route! And more important, I reminded myself that I need to map my own flipping routes!:thumbsup2
Btw, DOOD just laughed at me after I got home (walking, of course). And that's why I love him, he's so sympathetic to my whining.

What corrals did all the INGers get in?
There are corrals?! :scared1:
No mass start? No jumping the gates as the race runs by? Man they are trying be all organized and offical. How boring. JK: Last years start was as close to a stampede as I ever want to be .
Where do I find what corral I am in?
I guess I really should look at my race stuff pretty soon. I don't even know what MARTA station I need to get to. I was just going to follow the crowd. You guys are going to insist that I actually THINK about the race.

Welcome to the new WISH Team members.
Good going to all those doing good on their training.
Sorry to read about all the sick stuff going on. Keep it to yourself please.
I managed to get outside in sunny 36 degrees today. Did 6.4 and an 16 min. pace. I'm hoping that Minnie will see me at pace.
Shan, good to hear Mom did ok
