Official Vero Beach 2008 Swap Thread

Everything has been mailed to Vero and swap group two has already picked up the initial shipment and started the swapping!!!! :banana: :banana:

Because of the complications of re-configuring lists and labels at this point, the swaps are closed to new additions.

When you arrive at Vero, you should have two boxes waiting that are labeled with your name. Do not throw out the boxes!!!!! We'll be using them to pack stuff between swaps.

In one of the boxes, there is a plastic folder with swap instructions, two sets of pre-filled-out labels, and my contact information in case a problem arises.

Upon departure, re-pack the chairs and umbrellas in the boxes, remove your labels and replace them with labels for the upcoming swapper.

If people want to add boogie boards or other items to the swap, they had hanging tags last year that could be attached and addressed to the next guest.

Please let us know if you leave additions to the swap. I have no problem buying 2 boogie boards and sand toys for my kids to use (and then leave for others to enjoy) but would hate to find that the swap say had already gained a say a boogie board and I could have bought only one.

Okay, I took a few days to respond to questions because rsschneck, our first swapper, alerted me to a potential problem with the swap!!! Evidently, VB has more limited storage area than other resorts - and there were some serious concerns about the swap - but management got in contact with me, and after explaining everything - I can once again attest that Vero truly has the NICEST and most personally caring CMs and management anywhere!!!!

I'm THRILLED to say that Vero is going to allow our three groups to swap for the remainder of this year!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes Whew!!! Kritter - the boxes should be waiting for you. The only exception to this would be cases with an * where stays overlap - there are a few swappers that won't be able to pick up the boxes until the evening of their arrival day.

And yes - boxes are labeled with your real names. Real names and Disboard names are listed on the swap lists inside each box.

I am sure that if it's at all possible with their storage, they'll continue to support the swap - but I'll touch bases and find out when the time comes.

As it is, they are being very gracious to us. If I had known that their storage space was limited, I'd have spoken with them before organizing anything. Be sure to tell them thanks! :love:

Lisareniff, the boxes are safely in the hands of bell services, and just as an fyi, we were down with two friends who bought a couple of cheap beach chairs. We put those two extra chairs in the box along with the two original chairs. I figure for those of you travelling with kids or other family members, maybe the extras will come in handy.

Hope you have a great trip in your beach cottage! (And it's a good thing we weren't in a beach cottage. DH and I joked that they'd have had to Tazer us to make us leave :rotfl: )

I know you said no addition--but I can fill a hole on List 1 I will arrive vero on June 11th and depart the 15th and would really love to join in--I contributed money to the swap last year...and we really didn't use the stuff b/c it stormed the whole time we were there....does that help my case?????????:worship:

You are correct, you'll be put in one of the three villa buildings. I don't think which building makes all that much difference since VB is a compact resort. We were in Villa 12 with a 1 BR on the 2nd floor (room 1231). No ocean view, but didn't matter. We had a mostly garden view and could just make out a corner of the parking lot from our balcony. I forgot to make a location request when I made the reservation, and the resort was completely full (not one vacant room), so since we checked in at 5 PM, I believe we may have gotten the last available 1 BR. If I had remembered, I'd probably ask for a room on the top floor, but again, being on the 2nd floor was just fine. I think the buildings have poured concrete between floors, so you don't really hear your neighbors above you (unlike what I've heard about HH). Enjoy your stay!

Group Three reporting!

We have successfully swapped chairs!

Just a warning, the box is a little big and heavy. DH was able to carry it but I wouldn't have. We attempted to have bell services pick it up on our departure day but they didn't come for 2 hrs so we walked it back.

Unfortunately we did not end up using the chairs. :confused3 We had very strong winds and waves and cooler temperatures for 2 out of 4 days of our trip. We went kayaking on the best day.

I do hope the box will last the whole summer.

Has anyone ever done a fishing charter while there?? My husband and stepson are talking about trying to do some fishing one day while we are there. We did a search on the internet and found a couple of charters in the area but I was hoping someone could make a recommendation.

Hi Everyone!!

Just got back last night from a GREAT trip! Our first stay at VB! The swap went very easy, bell services brought the boxs right to our room. Our DD (16 & 20) loved the chairs, because it was so easy to pack up and move down the beach if they wanted. We did rent a cabana a couple of days as well. We had my DM (83) with us and the CMs at the beach were great about getting us set up close to the ramp or stairs for her to get on the beach.

We had nice connecting rooms at the Inn (2319 &2320) but they did have the solid wall on the balcony, but you can't have everything..no complaining here.

Great weather, slept with the doors open at night listening to the waves crashing on the beach...:cloud9:

We ate at Ocean Grill and Squid Lips, (liked them both) and Shutters. The food was good at Shutters, but OMG...the service was sooo slow. Going down for breakfast, you had to plan on almost two hours to be seated and eat. That's crazy. Lots of empty tables and you had to wait almost a half hour to be seated. We didn't want to waste our last morning waiting for breakfast, so we treated ourselves to room service...only took half hour...

We never made it to the pool, too crowded, so we hung out on the beach most days, soaking up the sun, hunting for shells and chasing an occasional crab that wandered in our path. ( great tip from here to bring a flashlight to walk the beach at night..full moon over the ocean, awsome) Yesterday morning we got to watch them release a young green sea turtle back on the beach. It seems he was found on the beach in December suffering the effects for red tide, spent the past few months at the Living Seas and we were luck enough to be there for his release. Guest were lined up the whole ramp down to the waters edge (like for a parade) , the CM held him up high as he walked down to the water so we could all see him. He brought him out past the breaking waves and off he went!! Everyone was clapping and cheering. Very cool.

We added a boogie board to the box with the chairs, (my DD bought it but never used it)

We just returned from a MARVELOUS three days in Vero. What a perfect ending to a trip to WDW!! We had a beautiful ocean view room at the inn. Vero reminded me so much of the beach club... everything from the wallpaper and shell motif carpet in the hallway to the white wash wainscoting and the ceiling beams. The decor is identical to the Beach Club. However, I prefer the ocean to Stormalong bay! :goodvibes
When we checked in on the 18th I told the front desk we were participating in the DVC chair swap and the bellman brought out two chairs, an umbrella and two boogie boards. There was no box or anything. DH broke the boogie board playing in the waves all day with DS-we bought another, and of course, he broke that the next day!! I guess they need to have a weight limit (ooopppss). We replaced that one as well and on Sunday evening we gave everything back to the bellman.

Upon check-in we told the CM we were paticipating in the chair swap and the bellman brought out two chairs, a blue & green stripped umbrella and a large & small boogie board. They were not in a box nor labeled with anyones name. We retuned them Sunday and the bellman seemed to know what to do.

Thanks for the update. Back when there were initial questions about the swaps, I sent lists to confirm who was part of the Disboard swaps. It does sound like they are just using those. :thumbsup2

Might be a totally dumb question. I am in group #1. This is our first time doing the swap. It's my understanding we take the whole box back to our room to use for the week ? Or do we take the chairs etc out of the box ? May I ask, does the box fit in the closet or where are you all storing it while you use it ? We're in an Inn room.

I'm hearing reports that bell services may be just delivering chairs w/no boxes and using the lists I sent - I know there was a question about how much storage space they had. I'm hoping to check it all out in person in a few days!

We're paying 200$ a night for OVIR on cash - with the discount (in June), so 180 a night does not sound terrible - but I bet a waitlist would come through.
There are not any hotels that I can remember within 5 miles of the resort - but Vero Beach or Sebastian are not too far (Sebastian will be cheaper). I usually just priceline in cases like that and choose 3 stars or better.


BTW - I got an email from one of the managers at Vero and it looks like VB is just working from the list now and not using labels/boxes.

As the last swapper, you have the option of keeping the chairs if you want them, maybe offering them to the recreation CMs if they are in good shape, or just tossing them.

On another update note - The thank you gift for the CMs could not be delivered, so I'm picking it up on my way down next week and hand-delivering it. I'll take pictures and post them!!! :goodvibes

We got back from our 3-night stay last night (actually, early this morning :faint: ) and I would like to thank Starbox for organizing the chair swap. It was easily the best $11 we spent on the trip. We checked in Thursday noon, but our room wasn't yet ready. When we returned to the resort a little later (after a grocery stop) we ran across someone from the front desk with a luggage cart hauling two chairs and an umbrella up to our room. They delivered it for us without our even having to inquire at check in.

It was kinda weird having all three chair swap camps set up within 30 feet of each other Sunday morning. It was nice meeting Starbox and her DH (the big kid building sandcastles :artist:) as well as Chim Chiminy (Liz) down on the beach.

Amy, I'm looking forward to the photos of the thank you gift. The staff at Vero was among the friendliest I've ever encountered at any Disney resort.

Harley-Mouse - there actually has been something added to Group One - there are now two small colored chairs with the navy blue reclining beach chairs. When we checked in, they originally only gave me the small chairs and umbrella - but since I sent the chairs down, I knew there should have been navy blue chairs.

I know that all three groups o have the deluxe navy blue chairs because all three groups were out last week - so if you get smaller chairs be sure to ask for the blue ones too!

I'm really sorry, but I can't add anyone to the swap once the cost has been divided by the number of swappers, paid for, and the lists are sent to Vero.

We will be at VB for 3 nights arriving Aug. 22 and departing Aug. 25.

I was hopeful that we could be included in the swap for our days and pass over the items to jazmyin when they arrive on Aug. 25.

Ham-ham....I totally understand that you and jazmyin found this thread late. I don't think it'll be a problem. I have checked with starbox on this and I believe she's ok with me just passing it on to you both. Jazmyin already PM'd me with her name. If you could do the same, I'll remember to leave a note with the chairs that they are to go to you Ham-ham first. Then it will be up to you, to in turn, leave the chairs with Jazmyin's name on them. I don't feel right about giving out her name, so you and she should PM about that. But I'll need your full name Ham-ham. So PM me when you get a chance.

Hi you all! We're live from Vero Beach. The chair swap is great! Love the chairs and umbrella. We used them last night and all morning today. It's been storming so we're in the room. We're hoping it clears up so we can go back to the beach. Thanks starbox for organizing this!!!

Hey guys,

Swap 1's umbrella (well it could be any group because they don't seem to be holding them separately), is starting to fall apart. the little strings that help hold the cloth to the supports are starting to break so if the wind is strong it is pulling the cloth off the little end caps. I HIGHLY recommend bringing some thread with you (I wish I had some at the time or I would have tried to fix it).

Also, I got some slack from the cast member helping me get the chairs when I first arrived. He told me we weren't supposed to this again this year. Something about not having permission... I apologized for any problems, and was going to even tip him, but he didn't really help me get the stuff to my room. It was a really weird experience.

Overall, we did have a wonderful time at the resort and would return again. One warning- the ocean is FREEZING. And I grew up swimming in the long island sound... :scared1:

When we were there in June we had a female CM get a bit "huffy" with me over the chair swap. She complained about how disorganized it was - handed me all the information on it with the "request" to please organize everything. I was a little shocked to say the least. All of the names were on the list - the boxes were no longer being used so really all they had to do was check the list for the name - let the guest into the storage area to get the chairs and umbrellas and be done with it.

I know Starbox got permission from the resort manager to do this - she has done an amazing job getting it all organized. It is really a very simple thing for the CMs to do.

Kind of sad to hear more than one CM is getting a bit testy about it. Would be sad to see it end because they are feeling "put out".

Thanks very much for the update on Group 1's umbrella. It's a shame that the person before you didn't give the same warning so you could have been better prepared. We all need to work together. As for the swap and the trouble with the CM's. Wonder is starbox has an email or anything from the manager so we can print it out and show it as proof that this all was approved and organized. I got a snippy CM about a month ago on the phone. I called to ask if they rented snorkel equipment and she was quite rude. I won't tolerate a rude CM so noone better talk like this to me when I get there. Thanks again.....I'll be bringing thread since I'm practically the last one in Group 1.

I am beginning to think that the chair swap WAS a real nice thing. Three groups of chairs and umbrellas, and anything else left behind... I think VB has been maxed out with trying to manage this... I think anything more than one group in the future is pushing the envelope. Of course, starbox may feel different....

Interesting turn of events. I can guarantee you that on Friday 7/18, I dropped off 2 chairs, 2 boogie boards & 1 umbrella.

If you find someone nice, see if you can get into the storage area. They had me come in when I picked up the stuff on 7/12. I could see what I assumed to be group 1's stuff and group 2's stuff (group 2's umbrella was labeled group 2 with a sharpie). I was wondering if group 1's umbrella somehow got mixed up with group 3's but it sounds like group 3 doesn't have one either...

Thanks for all the updates with the swap. Looks like my group #1 won't be getting an umbrella ? Wonder what happened to it ??? Maybe the CM's felt it was a bit too in bad shape and disposed of it ?
