He's making a big deal out of my wanting to switch from one resort to another because he says it's just too much trouble. I've told him I've seen tons of people on this board that do this and that Disney actually moves all your things for you, is this true?? I thought I remembered reading that they do. I just think it will be neat to get to experience two resorts in one tip especially two totally different resorts like the CBR and AKL. Also, do you guys think that three nights at each is ok,or do you think that would be too much trouble to go through to switch for only three nights each? Six nights is really all we can afford this year.

Thanks for any help you can give!:)

We always switch resorts , makes it feel like 2 different vacations! Disney will move your stuff for you, just call bell services when checking out and they willl transfer everything. Go to the parks, and when you get back you can check into your new resort. Just be aware that if you don't stay the entire day- say if you want to swim, your suits will be stored away with your luggage until the room is ready! We never have a problem , it's very easy. Have fun.

Switching resorts is great. Just make sure you go from CBR to AKL - I think the other way around would be disappointing. We have ended the last two trips with 2 nights at AKL - and it really was wonderful. Disney transports everything for you - they really couldn't make it easier.

I am not an advocate of switching resorts. I think it's a pain in the butt, and don't so it unless I have to...generally only because I don't have enough DVC points for the entire trip.

I'm hoping to do a little switcheroo myself in October! This will be my first time doing a split stay and hope it goes smoothly. It's going to be Myself, DD(28) & DGD(7). We're staying the first four nights at CSR, last 4 nights at AKL.

I'm not telling the girls about it. The day of the switch I'm sending them to Discovery Cove for the day. This way I can pack and have Disney switch our luggage, then go check in, hopefully unpack, all while the girls are gone. Then I'm going to have ******** bring them to AKL instead of CSR when he picks them up! I'm going to be in the lobby with the camera ready when they arrive. I'm so excited!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I wasnt really keen on the idea of doing it myself. Then on our last trip we had the opportunity to add an extra night to our original reservation, and go to the Poly(my favorite resort) for a great price. Of course I did it. And it was not bad at all. I wouldnt make a habit of doing it all the time, but to get to go someplace I really want, I would definitely do it again.

Someone I know recently went to AAA to book a trip and she told them she wanted to split it between AKL and Poly. The TA told her "You dont want to do that!", and made her feel like she was nuts for even thinking it. I told her its very common and very easy to do, but the TA convinced her not to.

I wouldn't do it either. It might not be "too much" trouble, but when I'm on vacation *any* trouble is too much trouble. You have to pack everything up, be without a room for a period of time, hope that you get assigned a room in a location that you like and that is fully functional, then unpack again. Sounds like trouble to me.

Personally, we never do this... Last time we did though, only because we were 12 nights at OKW & I thought it was worth spending 2 nights at AKL... I think if you are only spending six nights, it isn't worth it... It never made it feel like 2 vacations to me, just one short one... I mean think about having to pack up your stuff & unpack it... it's a lot of work... I'm with your DH on this one!!

One thing that we did, when we split the time, was this: When I packed up from the first part, all the dirty stuff that I would NOT be using for the 2nd part, I put in one suitcase. All the clean stuff that I would be using went in the other suitcase. That way, we only had 1 suitcase that had to be opened when we got to the new room, while the other suitcase just sat in the closet for the rest of the trip, and got the dirty clothes added to it.

I would personally be glad if my DH wanted to go to WDW at all!! It's like pulling teeth and I have gone the last 2 times with the kids, (and had a blast I must add!). We've moved before and it's too much work for vacation time.

I've done this many times and absolutely do not like to do it. I like to settle into my resort and feel at home. I hated having to think what day it was or when we have to pack and re-check in. I found it makes my vacation go by too quickly. We avoid this at all cost. Sorry---done it and don't like it. Also don't like having to get 2 sets of mugs either. The only times we are forced to do it,is if we have to extend our vacation and can't get the extra day on our original ressie.

We split our 6 night stay in January: 2 nights at AKL, and the last four at the Poly. We loved both resorts, and Disney really did make the move very easy, but...

I'm really not sure I would do it that way again, at least for a 6 night stay. I agree with chris1gill. It did feel a bit like to short vacations instead of one longer one. I felt somewhat unsettled the first 2 nights at AKL, but felt better once we got to the Poly and could unpack. It wasn't worth completely unpacking our suitcases for a family of 7 for only two nights, but I don't like having to live out of suitcases.

I guess it's a matter of personal taste. I'm sure you'll have a great Disney vacation no matter what your decision.

Good luck!

Yikes!! Now that I've read all the negative feedback on switching, I'm starting to reconsider. My dh wants to just go ahead and stay at AKL for five nights instead of staying three at CBR and three at AKL. Thanks so much for all the replies, I'll be doing a lot of thinking on this while I wait for the new codes to come out LOL! :D

I just realized which resorts you're thinking about.... STICK WITH AKL... you will NOT be sorry... get a Savannah view room & ask to look over Arusha Rock, it is SOOO awesome....

I think it is ok if you are going to be staying for a while but 3 days only gives you a taste of a resort. I don't feel you ever get to unpack and relax. We tried the YC for 3 nights and we never settled in or even took anything out of our bags but we switched over to the polynesian for another 7 nights so we got to unpack and relax. If I was only going for a week or less I would not switch.

We are splitting our stay for the first time this year. I think the idea of dividing just a week would be hard but we are staying for 12 nights. The first part of the trip at CR and then the second part we are moving to the Dolphin. My teenager is actually excited about the split. We are going to do Chef Mickey's, River Country and the Hoop De Doo while at the CR. ANd more of Epcot and MGM while at the Dolphin. I guess we will decide how we like moving after we try it!

So we're going in May for 10 nights and staying at the Poly. I am really toying with the idea of splitting it up and staying 5 nights at two different resorts. The Poly will definitely be one, I'm not sure about the other one. I'd like to stay at a deluxe resort where I might possibly get a view of the Epcot ball (I LOVE that ball!). Any suggestions? What do you think about a 5/5 split??

chris1gill

Teresa, I'm still not too keen on the 5/5 split... seems like you're just eeking out enough time at each resort... I'd go more for a 7/3 split or a 3/7 split... as for resorts where you can see the ball, either a top floor Boardwalk view room at BW or a high floor at the Swan... That's a tough thing to bank on at either resort though....

Tina26, I just realized, weren't you interested in doing a Length Of Stay Boating contract somewhere? If so, splitting resorts would affect that... essentially your boating would have to occur while you're at either CBR OR AKL, but you cannot use a LOS boating contract when you check out of the particular hotel you were at when you signed up for the boating...

We will also be switching resorts after a 4 night stay at The Vistana.
I only thought to do this after I saw a great code on mousesavers for the WL.
I hope we (DH and 3 DD's 4,5,7) will be pleasantly suprised!

Chris,

I discussed this thread with dh and we have decided to do the five night stay at AKL instead of splitting our stay and the boating thing was a definitely a deciding factor. I told dh everything you said about the length of stay at WL and we've decided to just do the $200 length of stay so we can have use of everything our entire trip. We are so excited about this and can't wait to use a pontoon boat in Disney World.... how cool is that??!! Anyway, thanks so much for all the info you've given and to everyone else that has responded to this post as well. I think we'll be VERY happy at AKL for five days!! I can't wait!!!:bounce: :bounce:

Tina26, so glad I could help! I know you are going to enjoy AKL so much! I know we did... the thing is, it's so unique & different, you never want to leave!! If you have children, take a bike over to FW from the WL & go to the petting zoo... kids love it...

I'm wishing I was you right about now :D but don't feel too badly, we'll be there in November!
