APRIL 4th at 11:36 a.m.
Whenever my first child was born we only had one car and it was stuck in the mud:rolleyes1 . So like the true rednecks that we are we went and borrowed a car from a neighbor at 3:30 am , yea they were still up. And after all the noise half our neighbors loaded up and we all went to the hospital. True story, hope your goes smoother and my dh forgot to call my mom. lots of memories from 26 years ago.

Congrats again in advance Chris and Elizabeth!
Hmmm......I am a Doula and teach Childbirth Classes so I'm going to have to "qualify" my guess a little.
If you guys induce I'm going to guess two days before your due date (let's say that is April 2) at 7:30pm.
If you don't induce I'll guess 5 days after your due date (let's say that is April 9) at 2:30am.
Just a few more days before you experience Love At First Sight!!! :cloud9:

lol, just so y'all know, the official due date is April 19th, so you can base it off of that. Although my mom keeps on saying she's going to be 2 weeks early, so some of you are right on the money with that...heh.
I'll have to make sure to show her this thread later, she'll get a kick out of it!
As for my official guess, I'm going to say April 11th at 3:30 PM ;)

When my mom was preggers with me she was due on the 11, and I graced everyone with my presence on the 1st. My brother was due the 18, and arrived on the 8th. Ya never know!! Then again, both my girls went right to their due dates. I will say good luck, and get lots of rest now. And take a ton of pictures!!!

I loved the suggestion about bring her flowers. Make sure you give her something memorable just for *her* (not your sweet baby). Jewelry is nice. :thumbsup2 And foot massages...lots of foot massages!

Best of luck, here come the happiest and most fun days of your lives! Love 'em while they're little, because it's not long before they grow up.

She's doing alright, the swelling has begun to take it's toll on her. This has definitely been the roughest month, she needs a lot more rest.
Although she still goes out for a walk (not just as long) almost every night, just a lot slower and a little bit more "waddling" (but don't tell her I said that....lol).
She is absolutely glowing still though, she's going to be a great mom! Oh yea, I hope I'll be a great dad as well! lol

Dude! i am lucky that i was able to take a week or two off work BEFORE i had my daughter. i had cankels from hell. the swelling was so bad that i couldn't fit into any of my shoes. even flip flops - the straps over the top of my feet were cutting in. seriously. i looked like aunt marge from the third harry potter movie. We resorted to a cheapo pair of velcro strapped shower shoes just to get me back and forth from the doc appts and the hospital.
my first order of business after i delivered her and shed that water weight....a pedicure with some pretty polish for my tootsies.
good luck to you and tell her to hang in there...perfect strangers are sympathetic to her plight.

OMG I resemble that! My first was born July 31 and we went camping a couple weeks before she was born....in a tent.....on thin mats...... ok, I'm better now. Anyway, the photos from that trip make me want to cry. I had tree trunks for ankles! I swore I'd never be pregnant in the summer again!
loriandmatt
04-02-2008, 01:12 PM
see....the problem there was that it was your first born....had you already had one you would have known better than to go tent camping and sleep on what amounted to a sheet of wax paper when you were that far along. We all live and learn, don't we?
i worked up until i delivered my first....with #2 i knew what to expect and therefore said "see ya" two weeks before my due date. i knew i would not be able to concentrate. (hell, i could barely stay awake long enough to answer e-mails)
now the cankle thing....that took me by surprise. #1 was born in Feb. Cold Cold COLD. #2 was born in July. i retained so much water i was pretty sure i could hear sloshing when i walked.

ME TOO!!! My DH is convinced that's where the saying "barefoot and pregnant" came from!! I couldn't even wear Tevas - the velcro wasn't long enough to get around my ankle or over the top of my feet!

I won't tell you then my Dr. thought I would deliver early and DS didn't arrive until 5 weeks after his due date!!! :confused3 He didn't want to induce me. Did stress tests 3 times a week and everything seemed normal so, he said lets just let things go naturally, it's your first. We had no problems everything was fine. Just wasn't his time yet. When DS #2 came I think Dr realized I carried both of them very low, so he didn't even say anything about being early and he was. :goodvibes

I'd have to disagree ;)
July babies are great (that' s me) but AUgust babies are beautiful as I had 2 of my boys then!
I am guessing APril 11th, 3:03am.
As a mom of 3 who's had 3 very different births, just remember when "they" (i.e. Drs) want to interfere with nature's well proven way to use your "BRAIN"
Benefits - what will this intevention get you?
Risks - what the risks (best way to get rid of dr!)
In what time - when doe you have to make a decision?
Alternatives - what else can we try?
Nothing - what happens if you do just that?
Good luck!

Well today is her last day of work, she gets off at noon today, and then she won't be going back for a while.

Still no contractions, but he did keep her up all night last night in her belly, she said Reilly had 5 trips to the bathroom...lol

04-13-2008, 02:12 PM
UPDATE
Beth's water just broke (at least we're pretty sure it did, considering all of a sudden she ran into the bathroom wondering why she had wet herself...lol).
We called the doctor and they're sending us to the hospital. Actually, we had just come back from lunch with our mom's, and we were all sitting at her mom's house when it all went down, so to speak.
We're missing a few things so my mom and I are going to go pick them up, and her mom and her are on the way to the hospital (she's not having any contractions or anything yet). Dad is on his way from the horse track, and we're all going to meet up at the hospital.
So I can't give you a definite winner yet, but it's REALLY close ;)
P.S. I'm trying to fight back the nerves right now...lol
I don't know when I'll get back online, might be a day or two, but the "three" of us will see you guys soon ;)

Here's hoping that the new arrival sleeps at least 8 hours in a row each night and only cries twice per week! Best of luck tonight and enjoy the new addition to the family.
Welcome to the wonderful world of parenthood. I remember my MIL making a comment one day that only a parent can understand. She was around to help raise our youngest quite a bit, and I overheard her say "I would walk through fire for that kid!" Good to know that Granma's got the kids back!

:confused3 Well perhaps the baby and I will share April 14th as our birth date. Of course I have a 48 year head start........We should hear something soon if her water did break. They probably won't let her go too long with out delivering due to concerns about infection.

04-15-2008, 03:56 PM
Ok, so I finally got a chance to get to a computer!!! It has been a crazy couple days, I'm on my mother-in-laws laptop on the hospital wireless right now, so I'll make this quick for now!
So as I mentioned before, Beth's water broke on Sunday afternoon. After heading back to our house, I met Beth back at the hospital with her mom around 7 PM Sunday night. At first the lab said he water hadn't broken, but after some ultrasounds and further investigation, it was determined that it had and she was admitted.
She spent the first few hours walking around the labor and delivery room, because her nurse wanted to get the motions started. We had a full Irish nurse (accent and all), her name was Susanne and she was from Belfast. Absolutely great nurse, she was so helpful the entire time.
Beth started getting contractions around 9 PM or so, but they were pretty far apart. Around 11 PM they have her Pertosin (spelling???), some drug that helped her contractions along. Between 1 and 3 AM was the worst, she was in a lot of pain, but her cervix hadn't opened and she could not get an epidural (Beth did not want to go all natural). She was literally shaking with pain, I felt so bad for her, but around 3 AM she was able to get the epidural when her cervix finally opened and it helped her out a lot.
The moms went home around 11 PM actually, forgot to mention that, but around 4:45 AM the nurse told me to call them to get to the hospital. It wasn't till 8:30 AM though that she started to go into full labor mode, at this point everyone was ragged.
We had a great doctor, and she really helped a lot, and was informative. It was Beth's doctor from all along, and so she was familiar with Beth. Oh, I should mention that Beth works at the hospital that she delivered at, because you will see further in the story that she got quite a few perks...lol.
So the labor continued, but the baby wouldn't move. The doctor joked that she would be pushing for 3 hours, but 2 1/2 hours later, Beth was still pushing. The doctor actually stayed the entire 2 1/2 hours, which I guess is usually rare, they normally only come once the baby comes. But like I said, she got some perks...lol.
After 2 1/2 hours, the babies heart rate started fluctuating down to 100 BPM up to 200 BPM, so the doctor decided that this was enough and ordered a C-Section. The doctor fought hard not to have oned, she really didn't want to, but in the end, it was just getting too risky. Both moms and I had helped during the labor, holding and pushing and coaching, but they would only allow me in the operating room.
I had to wait almost 15 minutes outside the operating room, in all the gowns, and it was a very long 15 minutes. I was alone most of the time, and I was fighting back the emotions, I was really scared. Once again, Beth's working here had some perks though, because at least 3 or 4 nurses came to see me to tell me everything was going to be alright.
So I went into the operating room, and sat with Beth as they did the C-section. It went as smooth as butter, her doctor was there and even joked with me a couple times, I can't even explain how great she was. About 5 minutes after I got there (I was behind the curtain with Beth, so I couldn't see past her neck), we both heard the screaming of Reilly. He cried about 5 times and that was it, at first I was worried, but he was just quiet! Beth and I instantly started crying, it was probably the first timed I really started crying the whole time. The anestheliologist joked at me that I need to start on his college fund now....lol.
About a minute later they said "Come on over daddy" and I got my first glimpse of Reilly. He was so gorgeous, and he was so quiet! He wasn't even crying, he was just moving around, getting used to this new world. Shortly after I was able to hold him and take him to Beth, and I don't need to tell you how happy she was.
Right after that I had to leave the operating room with Reilly and the head nurse, and he was put into the carrier thing and we went out to the waiting room to show my mom's and Beth's best friend. When we came around the corner they were already all in tears cause they were worried about Beth, but when they saw the baby and the nurse told them everything was ok, it was a great moment. They were so excited!
So after all of that Beth rested in her original labor room, and then we moved to her recovery room. Like I said, Beth's employment here at the hospital has some perks, and she was able to get the "Empress Suite", which is actually 4 rooms in one, so we have this huge private room that has a fridge, private shower and bathroom, and a whole little couch sitting area. Trust me, all the other rooms share a bathroom and the shower is across the hall, I can't tell you how nice this is!!
They actually came and served us "high tea" in the afternoon today, it was all this fancy tea and desserts, I mean, it's just great!
Beth loved her "Mom" necklace that I got her, she started crying when she saw it! She's wearing it right now!
So, to wrap it all up (I probably missed a bunch but I'll be able to post a bit more tomorrow), Reilly is doing great, mommy is doing great! He weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces, and was 21 inches long.
Oh, and what most of you are waiting for, he was born at 11:01 AM on April 14th!!!!
I'm going to go help Beth a bit now, my mom and dad are coming over in a bit, so want to get stuff done before tonight. I'll probably be more active tomorrow!
Oh, and here isa picture, but trust me, I have A LOT more, and some really great one's, but this is the only one I could get on her moms computer right now.....
.....so I introduce to you Reilly Russell Olson.

CONGRATULATIONS! And welcome to the "DADS" club.
I agree 100% John, the bond you get with your kids is so hard to describe. I remember hearing about that before I was a parent, and not really understanding until that moment when each baby comes along. Colson, wait until the first time you instinctively pick out the cry of your child out of a bunch of other kids; it's kinda freaky, but cool.
Nancy used to work in a hospital when our kids were born, and it was great when she was in labor. Our middle child, Rachel, almost didn't make it through the first few weeks of gestation, something to do with hormone imbalance and her not "taking root". She was in the hospital at the first sign of trouble, and had really great care the whole time.
Welcome to this great big wonderful world Reilly! Now let your parents get some sleep.
Best wishes to you, Beth, Reilly and that extended family you have. Looking forward to the photos of everyone sitting on the porch.

Thank you everyone for the well wishes, and thanks Seabee for the sign, I already saved it!
Everything everyone is saying is so true, I never really "connected" until now, being able to hold him and see him and protect him, it's just so overwhelming. All I keep on thinking about is all the great times we're going to have at the Fort, about taking him to all the places I was when I was a kid, about making sure he doesn't get into the golf cart when he's 4 years old and crash it like I did....lol.
I will be sure to print all this out and put it in his scrapbook, you all have been so great with all your wishes, and we all appreciate it.
All I have to say, is Reilly doesn't even know what he's getting himself into...lol. You know how in the hospitals they sometimes play some kind of baby lullaby when a baby is born? I think when Reilly was born 10 cash registers started ringing at Disney....lol

Rog, I absolutely love that sign! Chris, I love that picture of Beth and Reilly. It is so precious, and just brings back so many memories. I hope you don't mind, I played a little. Thought I would post it so you could have it. You have a beautiful family, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

Wow Nicole, that picture came out amazing! You do such great work!! Beth is getting ready to get released right now, so I can't show her the picture yet, but I can't wait, she is going to flip! And I know her mom is going to absolutely love it!
All of you are the best, people don't really realize what a community we have here, and all of you prove it every day. Thank you so much!!!

I'm so glad they are going home!! Have fun with little Reilly, take lots of pics of his first day home(I'm sure you will). I was so much more relaxed when I went home, I just sat and held my girls all the time, I couldn't let go. Cherish it, because before you know it you will be saying "Don't climb on the counters", and "stop using the cupboard doors to swing" Yes, I admit it-I gave birth to arangatangs.:lmao: I will say though, having my girls was the BEST thing I ever did. Not a day goes by that I don't laugh with them.
I'm glad you like the picture. I shrunk it slightly to post it, I can send you a bigger version if you would like. Take care and enjoy having your new son home with you!

Hey, Colson, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! :cool1: :welcome: Reilly!
I missed your original post (darn tax day!), but I'm thankful I saw it now. What a great birth story...your wife is quite a trooper! Pitocin=no fun, but epidurals=heavenly! CSections, thank goodness we have 'em available!
Your little boy looks absolutely *perfect*! Hope your new and improved family had a wonderful homecoming. It's such a sweet, exciting time...a turning point towards the beginning of the rest of your lives!
Best wishes to all of you for a lifetime of happiness together,
Sue in Texas

OK, I have been living under a rock I guess. I have been watching for a new thread to start with the announcement.
CONGRATS!!!! :cheer2:
I LOVE new babies. A neighbor just had a baby, I kept her 17 month old while she went to the hospital. When I went to visit I didn't want to give her the baby back. :cloud9: I love that pic of your wife and baby. That has to be the most beautiful new mom pic I have ever seen. It makes me long for another baby, except I never looked that good after giving birth. :lovestruc
Congrats again and I hope you are all still doing well.
