I'll say it a million times, I so wish I could fly up there for a weekend!!!!!!! Well, if this new job pans out then maybe I will. ;) I should get two weeks of vacation the first year, and I'd get another two weeks right before cruise time. How's that for inviting myself! :rotfl:

I would love that. Then we could bounce on the trampoline together and harrass, Harry and Ed, Jeff and everyone else together over a few drinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember doing farm field trips with the boys...:worried: thats when they acutally let me go with them!

I tried to sign up for my oldest trip in May and got the "Mom are you really gonna go!" So I took my name off the list and cried for days.

DH said "Honey its really hard to look cool when your mom is licking her finger and rubbing the ketcup off your cheek." So I had to let my little boy go pretend to be a man for a day. BOY WAS IT HARD!!!!

Oh gosh I will be soo sad when the girls say that to me...!!!!!!!!!!!

:rotfl2: We moms are so underappreciated, finger licking and all. ;)

DS has been in his room off and on since school let out, crying because it's the last day. :worried: I feel so bad for him because he's never been so sad about school being over. I keep trying to reassure him that we'll have alot of fun this summer, but it's not working.

Thats so sad, poor guy....
We have someone in our family who has been crying too now that school is out ....Her name is NANA!!! (aka: grandmother, aka: summer time babysitter)

I bet...We had a local school district on strike this year and those poor kids don't get out for 3 more weeks...poor things. How sad it must be to see the kids in the next town out on bikes, playing ball and swimming and you are sitting in a hot class room.

Hey Harry
I have a swimming question for you. My DD got pushed and fell down at recess yesterday and scraped her knees up badly. Time trials for her swim team are tomorrow morning. The pain is going away but she is worried about the chlorine stinging them. Any ideas on what I can put over it (it's a big area and a waterproof bandaid won't cover it) to help her feel comfortable and not worry about the stinging?

I can tell you the liguid bandages work well. It is clear to go on. Try the liquid stuff it works great. When I had my collapased lung and they told me I could not swim all summer since it could not get wet. I would put that on and the hole stayed dry the Dr. could not believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually the liquid bandaid is a good idea. Personally I don't think that the chlorine will really sting it but maybe I'm misremembering from the last time I was scraped up

Hi Jeff - Did you "take care" of the kid who pushed her down?! ;)

I would hope by tomorrow she should have some decent scab formation that will mostly protect her from any stinging. As long as they're not open and bleeding she should be okay. You and I both know that these pools have astronomical amounts of chemicals in them so I know what you mean about the stinging! If there is any stinging it should only last a few seconds and she'll be kicking away anyway so perhaps she won't even notice.

Kristin-

I checked my caller ID when I got home and saw you called! I will eventually get voicemail or something. It's been 3 weeks and I'm going nuts without it. How are you doing? And the family? Today was Gwynne's last day of K and they did a little presentation for us. Then they had a slide show to songs that couldn't get any more sentimental. :sad1:

We just got back from a baseball game tonight and it was so HOT. I feel the sunburn coming on already. Here comes summer! Oh, and my bil said he and his family are going camping in a couple of weeks so if it isn't the weekend my sister comes to stay, then I'm taking the kids camping!! I'm excited about that! (unless of course it's 95 degrees with no wind)

I'm good and you??? I was just calling to say Hello!!!!! How how cute. I would have cried..

Oh that is good news about the camping.. That will be FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!

Airfares are out of control :scared1:

I'll volunteer Abby to swing out of Ohio, pick you up, head east, grab Nikki down in Baltimore, then swing thru NJ/NY and we're on our way.

Abby - how many of us can you cram in your vehicle?! :rotfl:

Sounds good, since Abby will be doing all of the 24+ hours of driving, I will bring a cooler of uhhh... "cold beverages", yeah that's it, and since Abby is the desinated driver, we can be the designated drinkers. Sounds good, right guys??:cool1:

17 hours, but a reg amtrak train is 21+ because it stops so many times. The auto train only stops once for staff changes, I think in SC. I like the auto train better than driving because of the lounges and dinning cars, the kids can get up and move around. I really would rather fly but the auto train is a good back up for us.

They have done this the last couple of summers.

It cost the three of us Car included about 820.00 last year. for 1 way.

But we rented two cabins adjoined. We have also used the family bedroom. It's a little cheaper if you go couch, but then you are in a section with many people and you sleep in reclining seats.

That sounds like fun, especially with other families. LMK how Kung Fu Panda is. The kids have already asked to go see it tomorrow. I haven't seen any reviews or previews.

We have a couple of drive-ins here too but they are almost as expensive as a movie theater so we quit going. They are good if you stay for all 3 movies though, but by the end of the first one, we are done.

What did you go see? Steve took Jordan and my nephew to see Kung Fu Panda last night, while I went to see Sex in the City. He said thne movie was really funny, and the kids loved it.

Kung Fu Panda.... it was okay - made me laugh a couple of times, but honestly I felt like nodding off a few times....

I've done the coach experience on that train before..... perhaps it's just me - but I hated it. The cars were divided by "families" and, shall we say... "silver hairs". The family car was like the circus train! Then at night... the "seniors" just roamed around - that train door.... opening... shutting...opening... shutting... The bathrooms smelled by the next morning... ugggghhh BUT.... we arrived on time and our car was with us when we got there - I guess the major benefit of the Auto Train.

Perhaps a bunch of us may end up on the same train in August 2009?!?! Though, at this point, we're holding out hope for "reasonable" air fare!

The coach experience sounds "fun" Harry!! LOL I hope to get some kind of sleeping car. It would be nice if a bunch of us were going home on the autotrain.

Just checked and its 91 degress with a dew point of 72 outside here.
Glad I started the AC this morning. The living room and bedrooms are comftable. but since the it is not central air the kitchen is warm.

We hit 96 today, and humidity was 84. Tomorrow it is supposed to be 99degrees and I have a birthday party at a park, no not a waterpark:scared1: . I'm not looking foward to that!!

Jeff-

That sounds like fun, especially with other families. LMK how Kung Fu Panda is. The kids have already asked to go see it tomorrow. I haven't seen any reviews or previews.

We have a couple of drive-ins here too but they are almost as expensive as a movie theater so we quit going. They are good if you stay for all 3 movies though, but by the end of the first one, we are done.

Steve took Jordan and my nephew, and they loved it. Jordan has been doing karate (or her version of it ) all day!!:rotfl2:

Are we still "allowed" to post our non-cruise, family stories?!? ;)

Jake's soccer season is finally over. It was quite a year. Undefeated and a championship in the fall.... a single loss over the winter.... and a so-so spring season. As an individual player he came along quite well this year. In the spring he played with 10 & 11 year olds so it was tough, but he hung in there. There was one team that beat us 3x.... they were able to get the ball over his head when he was in goal (7 foot goal, 4.5 foot Jake!)... we played them in our final game this week & they came in undefeated. Jake usually plays one half in goal and the other on the field (he's too young to get stuck in goal yet, but he's headed in that direction - plus, he's a good goal scorer....) For this last game our strategy was simple.... Jake would play the entire game in goal.... we would mark their best player... and try to get up early... It worked pretty well.... we got up 3-0 and then 4-1.... with about 3 minutes left though Jake let a soft one get past him and then they sailed another over his head.... In the last minute he came up HUGE... two point blank saves and then he blasted a kick into their end which effectively killed the remaining time....

Seven weeks until soccer camp..... :)

Now I know why we don't go to Drive Ins. The screen is WAY too far away. The sound is terrible and the people in the gigantic monster trucks parked in front of us meant that we basically couldn't see the movie. We ended up just socializing and having a nice time with our neighbors. I don't think anyone in our group really was able to watch the movie so I can't give you a review. My DD9 said it was boring boring boring - BUT I think that's because she really didn't get to see much of it.

Hey Everybody.

Harry - Great for Jake! Elizabeth (my 9 year old) just played soccer for the first time this spring after playing softball the last 3 years. She really liked soccer more and wants to sign up for the fall season. She had an assist in the game yesterday which was her real first time on the scoresheet so she was pretty excited. It's a good sport for her and a good complement to swimming. She did pretty well in her time trials yesterday so practice starts in earnest tomorrow (though we'll miss it due to it being her first day at a new day camp and we think she needs to socialize on the first day). But I'll be up good and early for the 7 a.m. practice on Tuesday! :scared1:

What's up Kristen?

Hey those of you with pools, give me some advice. We are thinking of building one. I've been toying with it since we built our house 10 years ago. We put an addition on 2 years ago instead of moving to a bigger house..so I guess we are "committed" now. So the pool itch has gotten me again. If you all have any photos of your pools, I'd love to see them. I have a picture in my minds eye of what ours will look like but I love seeing other examples.

Not much. I can post some pictures this week.. Ours is nothing fancy but we do love having it. We decided to put the extra money into the automatic cover:

http://www.automaticpoolcovers.net/

Our pool is the shape of the one in the picture.. Safety wise, maintence, it all saves you in the long run. There is not dragging a cover off come spring and dragging one on in the winter time. We were just talking today about extending our pool decking.... The cover runs you about an extra $10,000,, but it is not something you can add on later. The tracking needs to be added when it gets installed so you can always add other stuff later but that you can not...

The pool is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! I say go for it. !!!!!!!!!!!! If you have Pools By Murphy do not go with them they have several lawsuits in CT pending, etc... JUST AN FYI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DD9 went to a pool party over the weekend and the folks who had just built this house (and the pool) actually had the pool that I picture in my minds eye. It was weird. AND they and they had the cover and showed me how it worked. Thanks for the info! We will actually go with a family run local business that has a great reputation (they built the pool that i saw this weekend and lots of ohters in the newer communities here).

No I hadn't. My boys, for some reason, aren't into the Guitar Hero games. Are you looking to play a little guitar?!

I have heard that the Guitar Hero is a cool game. Not sure we'll get it but it might be FUN to have when we have people over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm excited, I just got an email from Carnival cruise- I know I'm a traitor, but they will be having cruises leaving from good old Baltimore in late 2009 and 2010!! To Turks and Caicos, Bahamas, and Half Moon Cay- we will probably book one of those for 2010 or 2011. I have been on 2 Carnival cruises previously, but Steve and Jordan haven't. It would be great to drive 15 minutes and be at the port!!! I really want to do one of the new Disney ships too, after they work out the kinks, so this will let Steve know how much better DCL is, and he won't object to booking future DCL cruises!!:rotfl2:

hahahahaha well on thursday, which is the last day of classes, all the seniors are dressing up in white tee shirts and blue jeans and throwing water balloons at anyone who is not a senior. so im glad im going home early that day LOL. today they went to another high school in my district and egged all the seniors cars and they stole one of the radios from the assistant principle and hid it on her. i thought that was hillarious. there might be plenty more pranks tomorrow, wednesday and thursday. i'll keep you posted LOL

Hi everyone....ok this is hard, I feel like we are breaking up. :(
We changed our cruise to the Oct.10th Eastern w/ St. Croix.

My SIL bailed on us and she was the only reason we were going in the summer to begin with, so now that she canceled we decided to go in Oct with a friend (who I meet on my last cruise...gotta luv DIS) and her family.

I just wanted to say it has been great getting to know ya in this short time and I hope you all have a great cruise...
