Before I begin, let me just say that this trip report will be like none of my other TR's in that it has a beginning and an ending. I know, I know......I'll finish those other two.....sometime. I felt I needed to get this quick one written since my brain has just turned 37 and is quickly deteriorating.

First, a fast intro:

Me: 37, Disney lover
DH: 34 (I hate these next 6 weeks cause it makes me look like such a criminal) Anyhow, DH, Disney DS10: Ditto
DD8: Ditto
DS8: Ditto

So how on God's green earth did we find ourselves going to WDW for 4 days over New Year's????

This is long, but stick with me......the shortened version doesn't make sense. Besides, the boards are slow; what else do you have to read?

Well, it all started around this time last year when we were abducted near the DVC booth in DTD. And, our children's was school being converted to year round; meaning that they would have 4 "track outs" (3+ week vacations) throughout the year plus other holidays. We found ourselves in one of those circular arguments: might as well buy DVC since we will be vacationing several times per year; might as well vacation several times per year since we will be DVC owners....:thumbsup2 So, we have our 160 points, but when shall we go? The first track out was already scheduled for free dining, but not using points (although we ended up adding two AKV days at the end). The next track out approaches (Nov. 10-Dec. 5), but work was so busy that I can't find a good date plus holiday prep, etc. In addition, DH's work was rather slow (he is partnered with his dad) so $$ was a little tight. Oh, and we were planning a west coast visit in late Feb. So at this point, trotting off the FL for a week "weren't too smart." However, it was gnawing at me that we couldn't take advantage of this school break. Each day of their track out gnaws more and more til I can't take it anymore! I start calling the DVC to check avail. We could make a quick weekend trip. :yay: The days tick away, and they were back in school, but I couldn't sleep, couldn't eat; well that last part isn't true. Around Dec. 7, my mom called to tell me that she would need another back surgery, but this time it was the biggie. She could either go Dec. 19 or Jan. 2. She chose Jan so as not to "ruin everyone's Christmas." Her words, not mine. She would be in the hospital at least a week, and then maybe rehab, and her recovery would be 6-12 months. :sad1: This scared the crap out of me. I'm sure ya'll can imagine. I'll try not to cry, you try not either.... my mom is 67. Her mother died at 67. My grandmother was in the hospital from a stroke. She called for help getting to the bathroom, but no one came. She got up to go on her own, fell and hit her head, she died before my mom could get to the hospital. My grandmother drank and smoked heavily which I assume led to the stroke. My mom does neither, but still this is all I could think about. I knew I would need to stay with my mom in the hospital and however long after.

Ok, I'll let you take a break. But don't be long. Seriously, do come back; it will get juicy, really, ok I'll tease you with a few installment titles:

One Night in Bangkok
Guests Behaving Badly; Really, Really, Badly
And More Guests Behaving Badly: The Loud Children are finally allowed to say the word, "Stupid"
Encounters With the Dream Team
We Finally Rode that Darn Dumbo!

See, who couldn't come back for that?

We knew the Feb trip was off (no $ spent yet anyhow), and we didn't know exactly when we would be able to travel. But, I kept checking and checking DVC availability, but not really considering going at this point....more just trying to occupy my brain if you know what I mean. Christmas came and went, and I was still checking. My stomach was in knots. I MUST GET TO DISNEY!!!

We need to back up a minute. In the weeks leading up to DH's slowing business, his dad was diagnosed with diabetes. The dad is the salesperson, so he wasn't exactly focused on selling. But after getting his head back in the game, some doors really opened. Most of their lawyer clients are running an obsolete program that has no support. If the system crashes, then too bad. These conversions need to take place on weekends so business won't be disrupted. DH didn't want to go away in case he was needed to work. FIL informed him that it would still be a month or so before the bugs were worked out .....oooh speaking of bugs....you'll have to stick around  Anyhow, FIL said, if you're gonna go, go now; Feb and March will not be a good time to go anyhow. And, I wasn't "feeling" too good about my job. I could just sense that something wasn't right.

DH and I talked about it, as we had done many times in the past 6-8 weeks, and we decided it was now or never. We knew it wouldn't be "never," but who knows what the future will hold? As crazy as it sounds, I found myself calling the DVC every hour or so on Dec. 27. I don't recall what time it happened, but at some fine hour, I was able to get one night at Beach Club and one night at SSR. Dec. 30 and 31. :dance3: But, there was just one problem: I had not been cleared to take a vacation day on 12/31 which was also payroll processing day. I was the payroll person. It was tough for me to ask since I was already taking off on 1/2 for my mom's surgery. But, I asked and there was hesitation, but my wish was granted. :wizard: (I would still have to do payroll remotely...on New Year's Eve...at Beach Club) I was certainly doing a happy dance and all that was left was to Priceline a hotel for 12/29. I certainly wasn't going to spend points on a weekend during holiday season. ;)

See, here's why all that pre-trip history is so important. I didn't have to plan anything since I had sort of planned all along. :cool2: All that was left was making a few ADR's and packing.

OMG!!! I can't believe I left out such an important detail!!!! One of the big, biggest, no, THE BIGGEST reason I wanted to go to WDW now is because it was in the middle of winter. I was so miserably hot during August that I really didn't enjoy the trip most of the time. The highlight of that trip was DS8 doing a backflip at Blizzard Beach and meeting some wonderful wonderful ladies. :grouphug: I wanted to be able to enjoy Disney without being soaked with sweat. :scared: According to the calendar, the end of Dec should have been perfect, right?

Packing was quick and simple; one suitcase per hotel. The good thing about last minute planning is that you don't buy tons of stuff you won't use. However, Santa must have anticipated the trip 'cause he brought a portable DVD player, some DVD's and DS games. :santa: That Santa sure is smart. :teacher:

Oh, here's the ADRs I made:

12/29 5:30 Yak & Yeti
12/30 11:45 Tutto Italia
12/31 3 ish Raglan Road

Up Next: No Time for Pedro?

I'm sure something exciting happened on 12/28, but I can't recall at this time. On 12/29, we get up bright and early and manage to hit the road by 6:00AM. I'm driving first, and all is going well. DH is sleeping and I'm kind of sad that we won't be stopping at our favorite tacky tourist trap. No heir conditioned honeymoon suites; no chili today, hot tomale. :sad2: But DH wakes announces the need to "go" now! Might I add that he is taking a diuretic? Remember this, it is important. So, we get to visit Pedro afterall! But not too long, we have many miles to go. The drive was uneventful other than the constant pit stops.....every freakin 30 minutes! I swore after this trip that we are only flying from now on. Despite the constant stops, we were making pretty good time until we hit construction, then a stop for no reason, then heavy traffic, then rain, then Orlando. We ended up driving straight to AK for our ADR at Yak & Yeti. I was actually pretty grumpy when we there. I yelled at somebody in the parking lot for something. I think one of the Loud Children lost something. I don't know; it wasn't important. But as soon as we boarded the tram, all was right in the world. :cloud9: That is until Yak and Yeti. Some have reported that it was good; we just didn't like it. The portions were small, and not tasty. This one was oop, so no aps or desserts. It just wasn't filling.

After Y&Y, we walked around a bit. DD commented that it was a perfect night in AK. And it was. There was a cool breeze, not too crowded, just perfect. I think all we did was ITTBAB and then we left. DH wanted to get some rest 'cause he knew I would be "hard coring" it over the next two days. Who me? :rolleyes1 So he headed out on a quest for our Priceline find.

We left the AK parking lot drove about 2 seconds, and we were at the hotel. You are probably asking, what hotel??? Well, we took out chances on Priceline and got the Radisson Worldgate. It has received some pretty bad reviews here, but how bad could it be? So, my DH has a customer in St. Thomas. Most of his issues can be resolved remotely, but he did have to go there once. Of course, I had to go too. I can't remember the name of the resort, but it was one of the best. We were able to get a "local" rate which I guess meant the worst room on the island. We go in the room, open the door to check out our view of a concrete wall. Ok, maybe I just need to look a little to the left. I opened the door, and good Lord, what in the tarnatin heck is that smell? We were right next to the dumpsters. Ewww. Ok, no view, no sitting outside. I went back in, went into the bathroom, notice a trail of "dirt" leading to the bathroom. I look in the toilet, and not to get too gross, but it had not been flushed. For some reason, I looked in the shower and there was a 3" dead roach. That trail of "dirt" was her dead babies. I thought I was going to die right there in paradise. We got moved to an almost perfect room.

Given the above, just how bad could the Radisson Worldgate be? Other than a crack in the bottom of the tub, it was fine....for one night. It was clean, had a fridge, microwave, NO trails of "dirt." The pool area was really nice and DH and I decided that it was probably a pretty happenin place in it's hay day.....back in the 70's! It had a real Don Ho kinda feel to the place which is fine with me. My Disney memories as a child are from the 70's with that same Hawaiian influence. Cue the hula girls from IASW.

Anyhow, after we let the Loud Children swim, we showered and hit the hay.

We survived the night at the Radisson, loaded up, and headed to BC! We got there about 7:30AM. I think the check in people were shocked to see a person up and about that early. Anyhow, I got checked in, got our dining credits, the usual instructions about calling for the room number, and we were off to Epcot. But we drove....why did we drive? Oh yes, shorter distance to Soarin. We didn't quite make rope drop, but close enough. We got FP's for Soarin, then rode Nemo. Then we headed over to SE which was open at this time. It's a good thing we rode when we did because the next time we passed SE the line was wicked long. I liked the additions, and the exit area activities were fun. We actually stopped and let the Loud Children play. We ended up hanging out there until about 11:00, then headed for Italy. I was hesitant about trying Tutto because I had not read many reviews and why did they still have ADR's avail? Tutto turned out to be one of the best meals we have had at Disney. If you are into credit maximazation (is that even a word?), then Tutto is a good choice. Our bill for lunch was somewhere around $175...for lunch. I had the veal ravioli. YUMM-O!!!! DH had the lasagna, his favorite, but he wished he had gotten the ravioli. I forgot what the Loud Children had. Mozz sticks, pizza, and gelato? Oh yeah, the gelato wasn't too good and they stole my tiramisu. :headache: They owe me. HA! They don't know that I ate all their Reese Eggs....note to self: buy more Reese Eggs. Anyhow, the only thing that bothered me was the fact that they weren't very busy so the wait staff was just standing around, not staring at us, just looking out over the restaurant, but made a little uneasy. They weren't pushy, didn't rush us, and were obviously attentive. But there weren't any hot Italian waiters...not that I was looking for any mind you. :rolleyes1 But really, what's up with that?

After lunch, we waddled back to The Land for Soarin and LWTL.

Our room was now ready so we headed back to BCV, basically to throw our stuff in the room and head back out. You know, they should really dummy proof the BC and BCV. Who knew there were elevators for each section?

Well, I have to work in the AM, so I am off to bed.

Coming Soon: The day is heating up and so am I...more like I reached my boiling point: 212 degrees?

I thought that we just dropped our bags and ran at BCV, but I now remember that we took the Loud Children down to Stormalong Bay...or as I kept saying, Stromalong Bay. Hey, my brain was very hot. Let's pause a moment to discuss this "winter" weather, shall we? Ok, see where I am from? You'd think I would be used to heat and humidity, right? But, more importantly, this was supposed to be the dead of winter. Is it too much to ask to have sub 90 temps in the dead of winter? I can handle some heat, but when you aren't prepared for it, it sort of smacks you in the face..... and I wasn't prepared for it; physically or mentally, and it got the best of me. Ok, rant over.

We make our way to the pool, show our proof of eliteness to the life guard, get towels and proceed to find some chairs. The next five minutes went by in a flash, but it happened sort of like this:

ThreeLoudChildrenaresuperexcitedaboutgettinginthep oolsotheystartdroppingclotheswhereeverwithmefollow ingbehindpickingupeverythingwhilelookingforchairye llingatchildrentobecarefulandsticktogetherfindthre echairsputstuffdownlifeguardwalkingbuypicksupsomet hingmancomestohischairnexttomeandstartstopanic.

The next hour goes like this:

I am still getting settled, trying to locate all of my children....I think DH ran off to the bathroom. The man next to me is getting really agitated and asks me if I saw a white towel on the chair. DH walked up at the same time and said he saw a lifeguard gather up a towel and take it to the bin. Well, this really incites a riot and the man starts to explode. Why the F would someone touch someone's stuff. What the F am I supposed to do. I asked if something was missing. He said, yes, his glasses. Not good. This man couldn't see a thing. He had to get his son out of the pool cause he couldn't see him. Time slowed like a slow mo replay, and with every second that passed, the louder and more po'd he became. First we asked the life guard about picking up a towel to which the life guard denied. My DH spoke up and said, but I saw you take it to that bin. Seemed like forever went by, someone put on some blue gloves rolled out the bin and did a half-butt search. Meanwhile, Mr. Angry man is still shouting and rent a cop shows up. Not security, not hotel management, don't know what he was. He told that man that he couldn't help him with the insults and the yelling. Ok, the f-bombs weren't necessary, but their lack of care was making me angry. Rent a cop walked off. Soon after, some other important types show up to "offer assistance." Meanwhile Mrs. Angry shows up; she was reading in the room. She was very sweet and highly embarassed. I had started searching through the bushes and she joined me. The next higher ups who came weren't much help either and more showed up. Each new arrival was met with the retelling of the story which just elevated his anger. Someone asked Mr. Angry what more he wanted them to do. He said he wanted everyone at the pool to look for his glasses and said she(pointing to me) is the only one who has cared to help. To which the response was "sir we can't expect people to stop their vacation to look for your glasses; it's not like you lost your child." To which the man said, "without my glasses, I can't find my child." He had a point. You can imagine all the snooty on-lookers. :snooty: One man, ironically an optimologist, peeked in one bush. Another lady looked under a trashcan.....easy there, don't hurt yourself. Oh, here's a good one, Mr. Angry was supposed to have laser eye surgery before the trip, but wouldn't be able to swim so he postponed it. So, now the hotel manager, some super security, head of maintanence, and some other people had now joined the party. Finally! These people were helpful. They offered apologies, offered to pay for new glasses (the man had explained that he couldn't drive, couldn't read a menu, couldn't take his child swimming, etc. I think his wife didn't have her license or something; basically he was screwed. Oh, let's not forget this is 3:00PM on a Sunday, holiday weekend.) They went through step by step what they were doing which satisfied him enough. The were searching the drains, had a snorkler in the pool, digging through trash, going through all the dirty linens. Whew. We decided to go to another part of the pool, so we wished Mr. Angry good luck. If you are familiar with Stromalong Bay, we were sitting at the end where the slide dumps out; we moved over to the sand area at the complete opposite end. The Loud Children thoroughly enjoyed SAB. As we headed in, I stopped at the towel return on the sand side and asked if there was any word on the glasses. Yes! They had been found. Somehow they ended up in a green sand bucket that hangs on the towel cart at this end of SAB. I'm glad there were found, but really, how did they end up in the towel return clear on the other side of SAB especially when the first life guard "never picked up the towel" in the first place? That first life guard was a real butt. He even tried to demonstrate how he picks up towels. My DH said, "sorry, but this is how you picked it up." Mr. Angry did have a big wad of $$. Makes me wonder if the life guard was watching him.....not to be accusing or anything, but that life guard was quick to defend himself. Well, I'm off to watch basketball!! March Madness B-A-B-Y!!!!!

You can imagine all the snooty on-lookers. One man, ironically an optimologist, peeked in one bush. Whew. That is one of the funniest things I've ever read! Your narrative reminded me of the story Gordy tells around the campfire in Stand By Me.

I both admire and envy people who can pack up and go to Disney World on a virtual whim. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of your story.

After spending an hour more than we had planned at Stromalong Bay, we made our way back to our villa using the correct elevators this time. :thumbsup2 While the Loud Children put on dry clothes, I searched for a pair of shorts; you know, those things one would normally pack when travelling to a subtropical (or tropical?) location despite the calendar indication of a winter month. Well, no so luck. Oh well, no time to dally; we have a busy busy evening. I am convinced that we can cram Fantasmic, Osbourn Lights, RnR, and Illuminations into the remainder of this evening. At least that is according to The Plan that I created the day before. :teacher:

We our way to the boat dock, board the speedboat to nowhere, and an hour later we arrive at MGM. Has anyone figured out the route for these Epcot area boats? We always end up on one that makes at least three rounds between BWV, YC/BC, and the Swolphin before heading to MGM.....and they are soooo slow. I'm not complaining about the free transportation, mind you. I just wonder if they would be offended if I brought along an oar?

I don't know what I was thinking, but there was no way RnR was happening this evening; no FP's and the wait was too long. Might I remind myself that this was the height of the busy holiday season? And might I add that I wouldn't need to remind myself if it wasn't so dang hot. Since no RnR, we thought we we be able to catch the next Fanstasmic that was starting in one minute. Again, I don't know what we (meaning I) were thinking. After the two mile sprint to the theater, we were informed that it was standing room only....yeah, right. Well, the CM was right. Darn it. We tried to stop along the back wall, but were shooed to the Standing Room Only corral. Unless you are 7 feet tall, there is nothing to see from the SRO corral. This my friends, is when I behaved badly. DD8 proceeded to meltdown....completely. She couldn't see, was hungry, tired, thirsty, wasn't having any fun, whine, whine, whine. So I started to whine, whine, whine. I announced that we were leaving and heading back to BC. This declaration caused DD8 to whine and cry more. DH announced the need for yet another bathroom break, so he took the boys leaving me with Miss Whiney pants. Then she sees an "abandoned stroller" which adds to the meltdown. Let me explain: during our Aug 06 trip with the outlaws, we were offered free "abandoned strollers" late one evening at MGM. I quickly blurted out "no thank you" while MIL at the same time says "sure, the kids would love to ride in them; they must be tired."   Let me add that I don't judge others for their stroller choices. For us, we feel that at the ages of 8 and 10 and considering we have no medical needs, if our children are too tired to walk, then we are too tired to walk. I am also not interested in pushing 150 pounds of children around the parks. But, I did promise the Loud Children that if we were offered an abandoned stroller again, that we would take it....once. I didn't know if the strollers were abandoned, so I certainly was not going to take it. I tried to explain this to DD, but there is no reasoning with a tired 8 year old. I'm hot, tired, my hair is frizzy, so, I just walked off towards the Fanstasmic exit with DD chasing behind me still crying and protesting about going back to BC. Yep, that is one of my finer mothering moments. I'm surely getting the Mother of the Year Award now. :sad2: I found some stone block wall to sit and wait for the boys and DD and I have a little chat. The boys join us and we decide that we all need a PB&J milkshake from 50's. :grouphug:

Our PB&J milkshakes hit the spot. We were reved up for another hour or five. We made our way over to the sea of blinky twinkly lights. We arrived mid performance, so we were able to enjoy some of the calm time before the next set. Now, one would think that with all the time I spend on the DIS, that I would know every detail about everything Disney, right? Sadly, I knew of the Osbourne lights, but never read anything about them as I never expected to be at WDW in December. I don't remember when it happened, but at some point, I found out that these lights had nothing to do with Ozzy Osbourne. I was devastated. :sad2: How could life continue? Just kidding; I'm not even an Ozzy fan, but I really did think that these lights had something to do with him and I enjoyed them nonetheless. Ok, you can laugh now.

After our fill of optical stimuli, DD and I found a bench while the boys went for yet another potty break. While we waited, it started to snow. Oh if it were only cold enough to be real. :cloud9: But even the Hollywood snow couldn't reduce my body temp or the fact that I was approaching dehydration. :headache: Remember this.

It was time for to leave MGM and make our way to Epcot. As we exited, it as time for a crucial decision: bus or boat? Surely there could be no mode of transportation slower than the boats? :confused3

For the life of me, I don't know why we didn't drive to MGM. Oh, I know why. When one is approaching heat stroke, heat exhaustion, dehydration, (insert other), one's brain cannot produce rational thoughts when it has turned to mush. We looked over at the boat line: the entire "L" was full; looked like a 4 hour wait to me. Walking was out of the question; that would take a good 45 minutes at least, plus that would put us at the back of Epcot, exactly where we wanted to go. So, let's take the bus. :thumbsup2

As we approach the stop, it looks promising. Shortish line; maybe we would get a seat and have a little breather. 10 minutes passed, no bus. Another 10, 20, 30, 40, and still no bus. What happened to buses every 30 minutes? Other buses came and went.....we could have made three round trips to DTD. Finally, a bus pulls up......a non-empty bus. Oh well, what's a little more standing? The bus was packed, and all passengers looked like I felt. The Loud family wasn't together on the bus because we had to "fill all empty spaces." But don't worry, I knew exactly where my children were as did the entire bus. :guilty: This was a particularly jerky bus. With every stop, start, turn, it seemed as though all passengers shifted. And with this shifting came, "STOP TOUCHING ME! YOU ARE IN MY PERSONAL BUBBLE! STOP LEANING ON ME!" Man, some parent needs to get ahold of their kids. :rolleyes1 Meanwhile, I'm at the front of the bus, trying to send death rays to the middle of the bus, but they keep stopping at two boys who were seated. As usual, two able bodied 12-14 year olds were sitting while others stood. Others like an older lady and man with a sleeping toddler. Grrr. I'm sure I remembered m Southern home training and didn't mutter anything about manners and such. As we approached Epcot, I could read the body language of these teens and their 30-something parents. They were planning the trample those standing to make a quick exit off the bus. Hmm, that's nothing a body block or two won't stop.....again not that I would do that or anything.

I know what you mean about ill mannered teens!! I blame the parents who should have taught them respect for their elders which would definately include giving upyou seat to an elderly person. DSIL is from the South and he gets really frustrated when young people don't give their seats to older people. I know I've been flamed on other threads for this but I was raised in Engtland and definately taught respect !! I found most people to be very good about this on the buses and while some would consider me elderley I don;t and would over a seat to a poor tired mom or at least hold the child!!

The transportation options there are pretty lousy. We've walked it from Boardwalk before and that is ludicrously far when the sun is beating down on your or it's the end of the night. The boats are obscenely slow. As you discovered.

As usual, two able bodied 12-14 year olds were sitting while others stood. Others like an older lady and man with a sleeping toddler. Grrr.We used to have a gal who worked in our office. Fancied herself an elightened feminist. Which is why I purposefully called her a gal. She said that she taught her sons not to open doors for women or offer them a seat b/c it was insulting to women. The first time I heard her say it, I replied, "I've never been a woman but as a man, I've never been insulted when someone's held a door open for me. It's just polite. Not every gesture is sexist." Sadly, however, there are some people who either don't think manners are important, or like this foolish gal from my office, believe it's insulting to women.

Glad you're back with more.

After exiting the bus, we may or may not have managed to block the path of the eager family all the way to Spaceship Earth where they may or may have only then had enough to run around us. :rolleyes1 What I do know is that I had a plan. The Plan was to find wander WS and find a nice spot for the Special Holiday Edition of Illuminations, and that was The Only Plan. And things were going great.....for all of 5 minutes. DH announced that he was hungry. Hungry? HUNGRY? There's no time for hunger. We just ate.....hmmm......we just ate.... DH interrupts with "yeah, 7 and a half hours ago." But you just had an 80 oz milkshake. But as I started thinking, I guess it had been 7 hours since eating and that meant I also had not had anything to drink (other than the milkshake) in the past 7 hours. :headache: I could I forget to drink water? Or something, anything? Now I remember. The Loud Children didn't want to be responsible for their waters so they left theirs in the room. I took two bottles in my Bagallini and ended up giving them to my lovely bundles of joy. Ok, so now my plan had to be quickly modified to include food. I wanted to try the CS in England, but the line stretched to France, so we kept going. DH wanted to try the Morocco CS, but nothing on the menu sounded good. We, meaning DH, agreed on the CS in Japan....the one upstairs. The line was short, but soooooo slow. I forgot what DH had, but the children had chicken legs and I had the Udon, or as I called them, Undon noodles. Maybe it was the type of noodle or my mood, but I didn't care for the noodles. It sure smelled good and the broth was good. I ended up eating what was left of the 3 chicken legs and the cake......yummy cake. :thumbsup2 By the time we finished and had yet another potty break, the Special Holiday Edition of Illuminations was about to begin. However, there was no room at the inn.  Now DH was the recipient of my death rays. Even though I had now put some water in my body, it was too late; I was already dehydrated, or maybe I it was a heat stroke or mad cow. Either way, I had a meltdown. More of a poutdown. Not that I expected to find a viewing spot at this late hour; I was more mad at DH because I thought he was being selfish for wanting to eat.....remember, I was not able to think clearly. :guilty: I really didn't see the point in looking for a viewing spot, so I announced that we were leaving and off I went towards BC. DH tried to get me to stop and he found a semi obstructed spot near the boats, but I was having none of it. I was pretty fired up, enough so that I power walked all the way back to BC. Not one of my finer moments, that's for sure. :( And now there are two things I may never experience at Disney: the Special Holiday Edition of Illuminations and the Butter Griddled Pound cake from LTT.

Lesson learned for the day: don't forget to drink lots and lots of water!

I don't know what time we arrived back at the room; maybe 10? Anyhow, I decided it would be wise to get a head start on that payroll. DH get out his laptop and sets me up. I went to the website I use to take control of my work computer, then oh snap! See, here's something I really bad for doing: I have a bad habit of not remembering passwords and not writing them down. They are saved on my home computer; why do I need to occupy precious real estate in my head? Problem is, is that I am not using my home computer. :sad2: I typed in what I thought was it, but then remembered having to reset it because of the last time I logged in from another computer and couldn't remember the password. :upsidedow Oh carp! I'm in deep doo doo now. I tried calling customer service and sent an email. But really, 10PM on a Sunday of a holiday weekend; like I was gonna get any help! Since there was nothing more to be done, I hit the hay for a good rest as visions of log in screens and passwords danced in my head.

The next morning we were up bright and early....6:30AM-ish, and surprisingly very perky. We had inquired about openings at Cape May the day before as we passed through from the pool (on the way to the correct set of elevators:rolleyes: ). They were booked solid, but if we arrived at 7:00AM, they could seat us. So, we did and they did! :yay: Man, it was such a nice feeling to be able to get up, throw on some clothes, and make a short walk to a sit down rest. No mile walk to the bus, bus to monorail, walk another mile, forget where we are going, and then wait for an hour. Nope, this is the life! (and the beginning to an absolutely perfect day!) So, upon arriving at Cape May, we were promptly seated. Our waitress quickly arrived and soon we were filling our bellies with yummy food.....except....where is the HECK are the Krispy Kremes? Oh well, I'll just fill my belly with something equally yummy in my book: fresh pineapple! Normally one would not consider these two items to be substitutes, but for me they are! BTW, Fab 4, all the Poly pineapples were sent over to Beach Club. ;) Anyhow, Cape May was surprisingly good. The characters were great, we discovered the Goofy is a lefty, my daughter announced that I have a crush on Goofy, and our waitress was very attentive. I'm not sure if it was worth the holiday surcharge, but I would go there again if in the area.

We exited Cape May to find the lobby mobbed with sleepy hungry guests awaiting their magically moment in the buffet line. We waddled back to the room (again using the correct elevators) and I barked out orders and focused back on payroll. By this time, my office was open and luckily this type business warranted being open on New Year's Eve. I called up and told one of the sales girls what I needed. She asked if I was working from home? (They left before I did on Friday, so I didn't have a chance to tell them) I said no, I'm in WDW and just had breakfast with Goofy. To which the reply was, "you Biotch!" Anyhow, she logged on my computer, I walked her through resetting the password and I was on my merry payroll way. All I had to do was just make sure no one missed any punches, and deduct lunch for the delivery guys, but it still takes 2+ hours. I work away and make sure the troops are carrying out my orders in a timely fashion. About 10:55, everyone is showered, the car is loaded, I just approved the payroll, and it is time to head to SSR. But, I haven't showered. Ewww! :scared:

"Perky" and "early morning" are two things that do NOT go well together in my world. :sad2:

No mile walk to the bus, bus to monorail, walk another mile, forget where we are going, and then wait for an hour. Nope, this is the life!
This is exactly why we eat a lot within our resort; I just don't want to deal with travel for a meal.

Ok, so the lack of showering wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so dag gum hot! But still, with 5 minutes left before check out, I just didn't have time. So we make our way over to SSR for our 3rd hotel in 3 nights. Yup, we like living on the edge. ;) We arrived at SSR lickedy split and I headed for the check in while the Loud Family waited in the van. The check in lobby was empty. I was expecting some sort of mob scene. Anyhow, things went smooth and our room was ready. :) I had not made any room requests but asked for Congress Park at check in because, for some reason, somebody thinks this area is walking distance from DTD. Before we continue, just a few thoughts about SSR:

Now, I am not a spread out resort type person. I prefer a high rise hotel where everything I need is within one building. That being said, I really did like SSR despite feeling like I was at an apartment complex. We had a 1st floor room. We were able to park so close and there was a bus stop just steps away.

Back to the story.....I would say that it was probably 11:45 by this point. I think we set some sort of Disney speed record. Our plans were open today; just two things on the agenda: 12:50 ADR at Raglan Road and get to the MK before 3:00 because I wanted to be in before it was full. To be sure it wouldn't be full before 3:00, right? Since we were "so close" to DTD, I had enough time for a quickie shower. I doubt I put on makeup because it was so dang hot it wouldn't have stayed on anyhow. So, by 12:15 we were heading to DTD....which is not within walking distance BTW. ;) We arrived at a practically empty DTD; weird. Where is everyone? Now in my super duper quick planning of this trip, I didn't consult/share my intentions with my dear DIS friends. BUT, had I done so, I would have discovered that V was also dining at RR this day. I just missed her by 2 hours. :sad2: Anyhow, we had another great meal at RR. Afterwards we headed for a little shopping that I'm sure had to happen because of some bribe with the Loud Children. They get us everytime!

We swung back by the room to ready ourselves for the evening, which didn't involved much. By 2:45 we were on the way to MK. The day was going absolutely perfect.........................

I knew that it was important to get to the MK early on NYE, but I didn't think it would be at capacity before 4:00. I mean in this heat, who could survive all day and all night too? But, I was forming a back up plan just in case. IF we couldn't get in, I was first going to ask about the tiered re-opening; you know, for PAP's, AP's, resort guests, etc. If we had to wait a little, we could just hang out at the gate; do a few laps on the monorail, check out Ft. Wilderness... But, it never occurred to me that we wouldn't be able to even get into the parking lot. :sad1: We didn't very far on World Dr before we were re-routed to Epcot. The "MK Is Full" signs were already up....boy, they sure work fast. (We found out later from a lovely British family, that the MK was full around 10AM.) So, we are now we are heading to Epcot. But have no fear, we will just take the monorail over to the TTC; it's not like they are gonna block the monorail.

Up Next: The Loud Children are allowed to use the word "stupid."

Well, we park and board the tram. Might I add, that the tram is one of our favorite rides. We like to ask the driver if he/she will be stopping at the Minnie lot. :rotfl2: Cracks me up every time!!! Anyhow, the tram is jam packed and one more family insists on getting on. The dad sits in the row behind us, and his daughters are in the row in front of us that faces backwards. The dad is loud, but happy, fairly young, I'm guessing 35. One of his daughters was around 14 and was sort of standing sort of sitting on the arm of the row. As we approached the drop off, we slowed for pedestrians, cars, another tram, etc. The dad was telling the girl to jump, he said, come on, let's jump. We slowed to just a roll, and he kept saying jump, jump. It was time to move, and as soon as the tram started we started around a curve, and the girl jumped. OMG! At first I thought she fell because the tram took off with a jerk and then when we were in the curve the driver hit the gas and we jerked again and next think I knew she was rolling on the concrete. She quickly stood up and was joined by her family and they were trying to scurry off to the gate, but they were quickly surrounded by security and CM's. I said that has got to be the dumbest thing I have even seen! I looked at my children and said, "now that is the definition of stupid." To the Loud Children, this was opening day of deer season. All three of them were running amuck uttering stupid, stupid, stupid. They weren't running because we were stuck in the masses leaving the tram, so they were hopping up and down....picture the seagulls in Nemo saying mine, mine, except it was stupid stupid stupid. Anyhow, this incident certainly incited a small riot as people were confused, the tram driver was shaken, the rear watcher was telling people to stay on the tram, security and CM's swarming, dad pleading his case, gawkers gawking, and three Loud Children saying stupid, stupid, stupid. It probably looked like this:

I just knew that my plan to catch the monorail to the MK would work like a dream. I mean really, what were they going to do? Block the entrance to the monorail?

It's not like they have a big ol' gate or something?

Right?

I would get to ring in the New Year at the MK, wouldn't I?

Would I leave you hanging?

Yes, I would, but I won't.

We made our way to the monorail entrance to find it heavily guarded by gunmen and large iron gates. Just kidding. But, they did have a big ol' gate and it was being guarded by none other than the Dream Team. Wow, not exactly my dream encounter with the Dream Team.

Since I am such a wise DISer, I had read about the closing and re-opening stages of the parks. So, we all approached the blue shirts and the encounter went like this:

Me: Do you know when the tiered (or whatever they call it) opening of the MK might happen?
Blue shirt people: Silence...sort of blank sort of "you know way too much" look.
Me: You know, for AP holders, blah blah blah.
Blue shirt male: Well, what kind of AP do you have?"
DH: (blurts with pride) "WE are Premium Annual Passholders."
Blue shirt female: Well, in that case, go on in.

And just like that, the gates parted. Wow, that was easy. Not exactly the dream I was hoping for, but I will certainly take it! :woohoo:

Actually, it was a dream of mine. Every year I watch the NYE stuff on tv and always imagine that someday I want to do something cool like that.

A quick refresh:

Girl jumps off tram
Loud Children get to say stupid :dance3:
Monorail heavily guarded ::cop:
We bully our way through pixiedust:

We find ourselves on a not empty monorail. HEY! What the hay? I sat there glaring and stewing at the other 4 individuals who had joined us on "our" monorail. I couldn't take it anymore, so I had to ask :snooty: "how did you people get on the monorail?" :snooty: The old couple was staying at the CR. Ok, I could accept that answer. But, the other two, two youngish boys maybe 17-19 were meeting friends. Meeting friends? Huh? Meeting friends? Really? That's all it took? But, thinking back, it couldn't have been that easy....it just couldn't. I'm going with meeting Goofy and Pluto for a shift change.....yup, that's my story, at least it makes me feel better.

Now even though we had boarded the monorail, I was still afraid the gates of MK were going to be heavily protected with guards walking back and forth like at Buckingham Palace. And in between were two people with those silver clicky counter things counting the people coming out and those going in. But nope, none of that. We just walked right up and right in...just like that. :yay:

This night held no plans, no agenda, no ADR, no perfectly planned out attacks. Nope, none of that. Our plan was to just "be." We wandered over to Adventure Land and it started to drizzle so Pirates looked like a good choice. Didn't look at the wait time, why would we? We just enjoyed the back and forth, chatting with nice folks in line, just "being." We emerged an hour or so later to no rain. I believe our next stop was HM where we again met some nice folks in line; a lovely family from England.:goodvibes This was their 3rd time on HM for the day. They had been at the MK since opening and said that it was full by 10:00am.

:yay:
Wooo hoooty!

This night held no plans, no agenda, no ADR, no perfectly planned out attacks.

I was just sitting here thinking that oh yeah, it's NYE. What shall we have for supper? A super calorie fest? Pizza? Nachos? Then I start thinking what were we doing last NYE? Then oh fashizzle! I remembered that I have a TR or 2 still unfinished! :rolleyes1 So here I am, to finish something by midnight.....shall it be my plate of chips and salsa or this trip report? :confused3 I don't want to bring in the new year with too much accomplishments; might set a tone for the upcoming year; couldn't have that could we?

So, after HM, what did we do? I don't remember exactly and it doesn't really matter. What is important is that we "were" having a grand time. What I do remember is going to see Country Bears and DS8 started to have a meltdown. Instead we just headed outside and sat on the curb to wait for the parade. We called my mom and just listened to the music and watched people. DS8 was so tired so I came up with a great idea. CANDY!! Now whose the Momma of the Year? Hand over the award; it's mine! We were just outside the general store or whatever it's called. DS8 and I went in and stuffed a snack credit size bag with taffy and made a few other selections. Then, I sealed the deal by buying DS a regular Coke. What a good mother I am! :cool2: I loaded my child up with sugar so he could stay awake for the next 5 hours (which ended up being more like 8 hours).

Now seriously, the time between the parade and midnight completely escapes my memory. What I do know is that we were in tomorrow land and needed to get to main street, center castle, for the 10pm? wishes. As we neared The Plaza, DH had to once again, hit the restroom, so DD and I went as well. Somehow we ended up in one way traffic and couldn't get back to the men's entrance. We had to go all the way to main street then somehow fight on-coming traffic to get back. I thought we would never find them. But we did, and now the next battle was to get back into the one way traffic that dumped into another line of one-way traffic that was heading toward the castle. DH stopped to take pics and I turned around to see where he was and when I turned back, DD was gone.....slept forward by the current of people. I told the boys to NOT MOVE FROM THIS SPOT NO MATTER WHAT! Now the CMs had a nice 8' clear path down the middle of Main Street. I guess only to be used by CM's and me. As I approached a mean looking neon waving CM, she said to the right please, and I just zipped past her while yelling I've lost my child. I thought she was going to tackle me, but to my surprise she stepped in front of the on coming herd and put out her hands to stop them. WOW This all happened in seconds really and just a matter of feet. No time to panic..yet. I was able to spot DD and the boys came up to join us. And when wishes started, the CM allowed us to remain semi in the open lane. We were able to sit on the ground and still see. She kept shooing the other people out of "our" lane. I mean we didn't just sit right down in the middle, we just cheated the line by about a foot.

After Wishes, Dh magically appeared. I'm all huffy puffy, like where the heck were you? We lost you, I lost DD, I can't watch 3 children by myself. And cool headed DH says, well I could see all of you the whole time. Hmmmph! I'm putting myself in a timeout.

I was thinking/hoping that the park would clear out a little since the 10pm wishes was the little kid early midnight countdown. Errr, I don't think that happened.

Up next: We finally ride that darned Dumbo!

After the early count down, we followed the herd and were dumped in Liberty Square. We didn't have a destination in mind, but Liberty Square was not where we wanted to be. So we just kept following the line of people into Fantasy Land and ended up nearly trampling a poor family. I felt so bad. They had a blanket laid out and the dad was leaning against the wall of Pinochio's; possibly had a child sleeping in his arms. I don't know how we ended up there, but we were trapped in by an ice cream cart and some sort of flat bed cart that was stuck. We couldn't move anywhere; it was wall to wall people; we couldn't back up, not left nor right, so we ended up crawling over the flat bed cart. I'm sure the CM was none to happy, but we had no choice. Whew! I was about to lose it!

So, we found ourselves amongst a sea of people, tired people, and we had no plan. That's right, I said NO PLAN! HA! Revoke my DISer card if you must, but I'm not giving it up without a fight. With limited options and strength, a divine spirit led us to Dumbo and the light was shining just right for us to see a wait time of 20 minutes. 20 MINUTES? We can handle 20 minutes! :yay: And to make it even better, we would be able to see the fireworks will we waited in line. :yay: :yay: As each cycle of riders exited, we were getting closer and closer to our holy grail. I kept checking the time and wondering when the last group would go and then they would close Dumbo during the countdown.....cause surely Dumbo couldn't fly during the fireworks, right?

At 11:55ish we reached the gates to the ride which has eluded us on every other trip we have ever made to the Muthaland. But not tonight, we were so close, but, but, as a billion thoughts ran through my head, what if they wouldn't let us on? What if someone tripped over a power cord and caused an outage? What if we weren't Dumbo worthy? Oh the humanity! But wait! What's happening? Why are we being escorted to our Royal Elephants? Do we get to view the fireworks in the elephants and ride afterwards? Wait! What's happening? Why is the ride starting? And now Mickey's voice? Am I dreaming? Is this burning an enternal flame? (You're welcome Tracy:thumbsup2 ) And now fireworks and numbers all around us as we spun in the air: 10, 9, 8, 7......3, 2, 1! Happy 2008! and more hoop-la! :dance3: pixiedust: party:

For those few minutes, there was no should to shoulder swarm of tired grumpy tourists, no meltdowns, no crying, no whining, no stress, no ADD, and no potty breaks! It was just my family and a few others spinning above Fanstasy Land in our own land....happy faces, tiny thumbs up in the air.....the last Dumbo ride of 2007 and the first of 2008. This truly is the place where dreams come true. A brief but very happy moment for the Loud Family that I wanted to hold on to as long as possible. :cloud9:

Even as our elephants safely returned to earth, the Loud Family was still floating and jumping and hopping and needing to use the bathroom.

Again, details are fuzzy and not important, but somewhere in the MK we took yet another potty break. Our highs from Dumbo had faded and we were pretty much zombified. We entered what i thought would be a routine bathroom trip, me going quickly (goes back to frat house parties where the lines are so long you do you best to get in and get out before there's an accident in the hallway) while DD moves slower than slow. So, I'm pretty zoned out, mid stream (tmi) and I hear the blood curdling scream of all blood curdling screams coming from several stalls away. That scream belonging to my baby, tworse than that of her being stung in the forehead by a wasp. As any mom would do, I tore out of the stall, pulling up pants as I run.......was my child being abducted? Did she fall asleep and fall off the toilet and hit her head? What is wrong with my baby girl? :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Luckily she had not locked her door.....

So, I swung open the door to find my precious daughter standing beside the toilet with her pants around her ankles and tears streaming down her face. She says with the most pitiful and award winning drama:

Pause for dramatic effect

Big, sigh; blows big snot bubbles: "Everytime I get the seat all lined with toilet paper, it flushes and takes away all my toilet paper."

I don't even know what smiley to insert. All I could do was shake my head, cry, laugh, and hug my daughter. That has got to be one of the funniest stories I will tell at her graduation, her wedding, and any other event deemed appropriate.

We made our way to the monorail as we had parked at Epcot. It was so cool to circle an empty Epcot....so calm and peaceful.

By the time our heads hit the pillows, it was around 3:00am, and no one thought to set the alarm.

The next morning, or should I say later that morning, we were awakened by DS8 standing at the foot of the bed. He was asking, "why is it so bright outside?" Oh snap! It was 10:40. We had 20 minutes to be out and the DVC does not give extra time. Any Big Comfy Couch fans here? Well, when my twins were babies, I learned to take a 3 minute shower; enough time that hopefully the house would not burn down while I did the basics. :thumbsup2 No makeup, no hair styling, and minimal drying, but clean. Somehow we made it out. I mean really, we had only spent like 2 hours there, how much could we have spread out?

We still had 1 TS and a few CS cedits left, so we went to Artist Palette for some yummy pizzas then we joined DH at whatever the TS place is at SSR. He just had a burger, onion rings, and cheesecake. Ahh the last days of the DDP with the tip and app included. I miss that! Anyhow, since I was not eating, I could use my senses to people watch and spyed an interesting group at the next table. It was quite a collection of Disney higher ups; a New Year's Day gathering of sorts. Now if these Loud Children would stop talking, I could eaves drop in peace. I didn't get every word, but I did hear lots of important stuff....like:

"well, we sure have sold lots of these new plans"
"that one is dumb, what do you get, a bottle of wine?"
and then it got juicy

"so what are they saying on the DIS?"

Huh? Come again?

quiet down kids, mama needs to be rude.:cool2:

"yeah, those DISers really get bent out of shape"
"one will post about abusing the free refills then there will be 10 pages of people defending saying we are going to remove the free refills"

lots of laughter followed by

"like that will even happen"

Then just random crap about menus and something they ate somewhere. Blah blah blah.

I wanted, soooooo bad, to toss a LGMH on their table and give them an earful....straight from the mouth of Slate....about this new plan of theirs....and my thoughts on Disney getting too big for their britches....and lack of AP discounts....and this fooling with the DDP was going to bite them in the butt.....but I didn't. I remained calm (on the outside). But my thoughts on the many changes for 2008 are for another thread. For this is about happy thoughts.

Afterwards, we went to the pool to let the Loud Children have one last swim. I could feel the winds of change blowing; a cold front was coming; coming just as we were leaving. :headache: But for now, it was still 80 degrees. I pleaded with DH to go to a water park, just for a few hours, but he was having none of it. Big Meanie! He remained strong, and good thing. I think I drug my feet as long as I could and at 3:02 give or take, we were in the van, heading North....or whatever direction got us out of SSR.

I4 was quite dead....really dead....skeeery dead. Take a look at my siggie. One would think that a proper sports fan such as myself, would have every bowl locale and time committed to memory, right? Nope, my team was out, I could've cared less. Little did I know, that just over the trees, errr, tall buildings, there was a little game going on.....sorry V, it was a big 'un and we just barely escaped town before the end of the game. SCORE many many points for DH for being a big meanie. :lovestruc If you recall, I had to pick up my mom in about 14 hours for her surgery. An hour later and we would have been stuck in the mother of all traffic jams, and I would have been angry. I love my DH, he is very wise!

With little sleep the night before, I was able to easily fall asleep. I awoke, more like jolted by pokes of the devils pitchfork as we crossed the state line into Georgia. Goodbye Florida. :sad1: And in those 3 hours, the temp had dropped 40 degrees, count em 40 degrees. :headache: Dag blast it! We stopped at McDonalds for supper and met a family from NY who just left WDW as well. They did not have fun because it was crowded. Well, duh, did you do any research? One isn't enough

Not much more exciting. My moms surgery went well, but her recovery was slow. She is doing fine now! :yay:

That scream belonging to my baby, tworse than that of her being stung in the forehead by a wasp. As any mom would do, I tore out of the stall, pulling up pants as I run.......was my child being abducted? Did she fall asleep and fall off the toilet and hit her head? What is wrong with my baby girl? :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Shall I leave you hanging?

Ok, that was just mean!!

Glad it turned out to be just TP drama though!

And OMG - I remember you telling us about that conversation you overheard!! Has it really been that long since the trip?:confused3 I agree with everyone else -you should have flipped a LGMH onto their table!!:lmao:

Holy carp...S'late finished a TR!!:woohoo:

You're inspiring me to actually start mine now!!

Yep, you are one of "them" now. Are you even allowed to talk to us? JK!!

Believe me, if this was happening today and not a year ago, I would be giving someone an earful about basic economics and the fact that the only thing that is perfectly inelastic is an appendectomy. Disney has made some many changes over the past year: some just smart business, some dumb changes, and some for just plain greed. Don't get me wrong, I still love the place; I just can't go as often.

Im so glad the potty problems DD was having was just those annoying flushing toilets. The poor thing I think we all can feel her pain and frustration:hug: .
However it does make a great wedding story:rotfl2:
Glad the weather held up for you guys to swim and way to go to DH for getting you all out of there before the traffic.
BTW I try to avoid confrontation if I can always but especially infront of the kiddos BUT i would have tossed a LGMH at them:mad: kids there and all
SO happy to hear you mom is doing well:goodvibes
