We have signed up for the basic DDP for our 6 night stay at VWL in May.

When we go out to dinner, can I substitute my TS entree, for 2 appetizers, or 1 appetizer, 1 salad, or forego the dessert and entree to be able to do this? I don't want to eat a full entree, but usually graze on a salad and eat an appetizer.

Thanks!

You will probably just have to ask each waiter at each restaurant, but I bet they will tell you that their credit system won't work that way (meaning, their computer system won't let them sub anything).

Doesn't hurt to ask!

Not to my knowledge. I think each item at each resteraunt has a code attached to it. In other words, some things are coded as an entree, some things as appetizer, desert, etc. I do not think their system lets you use a credit for anything but what the credit is supposed to be used for. Entree, drink, desert.

They may have off menu entree sized salads, or be able to do an entree sized portion of something.

In part it is how you ask. You can not sub a salad for an entree, but you may be able to get a salad as an entree... the worst they can say is no.

I believe people have alreay posted that restaurants were being very strict about this and that substitutions were not being allowed on the DDP. The only way to get an appetizer was to pay OOP. It wouldn't hurt to ask though. I'll be on the DxDDP in May and at two restaurants I'd prefer to order two appetizers rather than an appetizer and an entree.

Just returned from a stay with the 2008 plan. Substitutions are not allowed (we asked about an appetizer vs. entree) so you'd have to pay OOP for an appetizer or upgrade to the deluxe dining plan. I'm not a fan of the new plan and got very tired of hearing what we couldn't have from the waiters, being told "you're not deluxe" and then having tip amounts of 18 and 20% suggested, being rushed to complete payment and having new restrictions on snacks.---Kathy
