my mom gave me 3,000 for christmas:worship: She said I could use it for what ever I want...That is Disney of course

so I told dh that I wanted a wdw trip:woohoo: he was not happy he dose not love it like me and the kids:headache:
now we just went Thanksive week and it was so crowded and I only had one day in Mk... So I need to go again and its not like its comming out of dh pocket:idea: so dh said we can go

ok I have 3,000 to play with...maybe for a small family but we are a family of 6:banana:
I found a condo on sky auction with in my budget... dh said no that HE would pay extra for  for the condo we used last Thanksgive:woohoo:

now my airfair was 1300:lovestruc
my car rental is 300( I will put this on the c card and pay it off after the trip.. I know I am sooo bad)

The non hopping tickets 1225:sick: for 6 days... I mean if I am going I am going to wdw for more than one day:cloud9:

that leaves me with about 500 for spending....:rolleyes1 I have been stashing away from each paycheck 50 $ so I have a total of 1,000 for spending and the kicker is I want to come home with 500 for Chritmas( I can do it!):scared:

If you book through orbitz or similar make sure you google "orbitz promotional codes" and see if there is anything there you can use. I saved $75 on our trip by doing this.

I just want to make this clear. I have to work with what I
have been given. I can not ask Dh for anymoney towards this trip. (house hold money) We are selling our house and dh is being cheap:scratchin (but smart)
ok heres more info
I have been returning my soda cans in and putting all the money on a Wamart gift card . I will use the gift card for some food for our condo... Now my goal is to have 50 by the time we go, but as of right now I have 26$

I have aslo been doing sunshine rewards so I have earned about 60$ which I will use to bring the 2 youngest to a ch lunch .

I am haveing a garage sale. I hope to earn 70$ to be used for parking.

I have also earned 60$ worth of gift cards for Pizza Hut . So I plan to eat there 2x:faint:

For my birthday I was given a 25$ gift card to Quizno's... So one night for dinner we will eat subs. ( I am sure I will have to throw in 15$ on top)

Hi. I definitely know how you are feeling. We were pretty broke when we took our first real trip to Disney - and there were only three of us. We saved for that trip and basically had saved enough for the package at Disney, rental car and airfare and we had very little extra money for spending. I was so worried the whole time but we ended up having a great trip!

When are you going? My DD who is 15 and I are going next week by ourselves. My Dh doesn't love Disney the way we do so he is staying home. I will miss him, miss sharing stuff with him but I am excited that we are getting to go despite his lack of love for the mouse. Is this a possibility for you? I don't know how it is to have 4 kids (assuming here, since you said you are a family of 6), I only have the one to deal with. Just a thought though.

So is your DH paying for the whole condo or just the difference between the condo you found and the condo that he wants?

Good Luck saving money for your trip!

Jes

dh is paying for the entire condo... Thats what he likes about our trip... :confused3 ..I have gone to WDW when my youngest was 1 and I had to just pay for me and my 3 year old. I went with my father (who paid for everything) I left dh and the older to at home... I had the best time with my dad.... If only my dh loved Disney like my family:idea: ....my dd 16 wants to work in Disneyn while in college:woohoo:

ok back to pre planning this trip on a THIN budget....
I have been buying snacks and hideing them, to use for my trip.
I have been takeing this out of my monthly food budget:tiptoe:
I have gotten lots of chips and snacks that we NEVER eat at home. This will be a treat for the family..

I have no idea what I am going to cook in the condo????? I must admit I am not a good cook:scratchin ..
We are going out to eat 3 times. I will need to cook, but what?? Hopefully something quick and easy .

What do you cook at home? I would stay in my comfort zone. I am not a great cook either. My husband does most of our cooking at home. When he has to go away for business...I make Dominos, Wendy's and toast. =D Thank God my daugther is a waaaay better cook than I am.

If I were staying in a condo and cooking some of my own meals though, I would bring my George Foreman. That way it's easy to make burgers, hotdogs, chicken...its so easy to cook on....unless the condo has a grill? Grills are the greatest thing in the world - we even use it here during the winter.

Glad you are working it out so you can take your trip!

I know it is bulky, but you might take a crock pot for meals. You can set it in the morning before you go to the parks, then have a meal ready when you come back later.

I have no idea how you could pack a crockpot but put a whole chicken ($5)in it before you leave..when you get home take it out and debone and make BBQ chicken sandwiches.. You could feed everyone for under $10 or so dollars.

If you're not going in the scorching summer months, you could throw a nice veggie soup or chili in there too while you're at the parks. Maybe do a web search before you go for some frugal crockpot recipes and pick a few that appeal to you?

2 Jars of apple sauce

You and I seem to be in a simular situation, money wise.
I am doing alot of the same stuff you are, collecting samples and coupons, planning meals in our room, I just started my PTR too - but I haven't gotten that far yet to explain how I am doing all my saving. Feel free to take a look.

As far as what to do about food on the plane. Something I do whenever we fly is buy those Smuckers Peanut Butter and Jelly Pockets. I keep it frozen untill we are ready to walk out of the house. This way they are still pretty solid when going through security and they don't question it (i know someone who had her PB&J taken away because it was too gel like). When I get on the plane I take it out to defrost some more and 30 min later we've got lunch.
How long is your flight going to be? Mine are just under 3 hours each way - so one the way out we will fill up on bagels for breakfast and going home the flight is well after dinner time that I hope to sleep on the plane.

I would love to eat at the rainforrest cafe. It would be major money for our group:scared1: .. my goal is to earn a 25$ gc to RF from my points.. Ohh I hope I can get it. Then I could possibly dip into the 500$ cash ( using 50$) to pay the rest at RF.. this is a goal. I hope to make it.. I sure like eating here better than cs at mk..
of course we all order water and we will split 2 out of 6 meals so we would only have to do 4... we always spilt meals anyway

I have most definitely enjoyed reading all of the posts here, I can only imagine what planning a trip for 6 people, with another coming as well, is like, especially when you are on a tight budget, on the one hand, one tries to save money as best as they can, however on the other hand, one does not want to feel deprived either, so there is most definitely a fine balance and line to be made.
You are doing a wonderful job saving and planning for your trip, and thank goodness that your DH, is paying for the condo! a most definite whohoo! :)
I love my baby foreman grill,it is wonderful! you will enjoy him (as it were) one can cook just about anything on it.
Crock pots are a wonderful thing too, I do not have one, but I enjoy watching QVC's cooking show, and on more than one occasion, crock pots were being demonstrated, oh how it truly is a thing of beauty, you can cook just about anything in it, you can even bake a cake in it! now that just blew my mind!
So as you are cooking tasty hamburgers on the foreman, in your crock pot you can be baking dessert too!

here is a link from google that has many tasty and tempting links to click upon:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=crock+pot+recipes&spell=1

I don't know when you are leaving, but if you are not working outside of the home, you might want to consider a temporary job, that way you could make enough money to add nicely to your budget.

If there is a Target store near you, they have good prices overall on groceries and general merchandise, and I love their $1 and $2.50 spot, their motto is SEE SPOT SAVE that is spot their official mascot, I love that dog and motto! anyway, just the other day I found in the dollar spot bins, Disney ice packs, lip gloss, notepads, zip lock baggies, possibly one or two other things as well, and a non-Disney container of 15 glow bracelets with connectors, if you do blinkie things, and if you do please not while riding the HM or POTC, that is a big pet peeve of mine, which I am sure that you don't do that sort of thing, of course! ;) :)
One of my favorite things to do shopping wise, is to look for buy one get one free whatever it may be, or ten for ten items, or the like, which breaks down to $1 each item, these are things that I normally use, or am interested in giving it a try, especially if it is on sale, that is the best time to try out something new. Do you have any dollar stores near you? one can save quite a bit of money that way. Keep an eye out too, for Disney liquidators that might be selling in your neighborhood, or close enough to drive to,great price reductions to be found there. I also find that some travel size items, really can be handy and helpful, especially when you do not want to carry full sized items, unless you are going to place some of whatever it may be into a travel size or sample size container, I most definitely can see doing that.

Keep up the great work! and take and share pictures, please! :)

thanks so much for all of the support:banana: .. I love target, however my target is 15 miles away and has 10% tax so. I have not been in over a year:sick:

I love the idea about the crock pot. I am going to email the condo owners to find out if they have one. I also might try to borrow a george forman to bring.

I also love the buy one get one free items. Infact I have some free kool aid mix that I am bringing on my trip:woohoo:

also I have 4 free hamberger helper samples. I also takeing that with me:banana:

now I was thinking about takeing some things from home and putting them in a cooler for the plane. Like cheese and lunch meat. I dont know if this would be a problem with security.. and I m limited on the amount of bags we can bring. One per person and carry ons

You are most welcome! :)

There is a topic, regarding crock pot recipes, that I came across, that is on the budget boards, if memory is serving me correctly.
Maybe you can shop at Target once a week or twice a month or once a month, and stock up on what is needed, that way you can save money on gas.
Target also mails out every so often, target coupons. You can also go to target.com, and sign up for their weekly email shopping/sales newsletter, it is available each sunday, and of course you can shop target online as well.
When is your trip planned for? for hopefully by the time you are ready to leave, you will have everything perfectly in place.
Where I live, I am @12 miles from Target in either direction, then there is another Target store a few miles further north, none of them are Super Targets though! I am really very disappointed about that!

If there are 6 of you going that means you can check 6 bags. I would think putting your food items in a checked bag would be better than trying to get a bunch of carry-ons through security, especially since you mentioned things like applesauce and peanut butter. We are a family of 5, but this trip we are bringing a friend of one of the boys, so we'll be traveling as a family of 6. We plan to only need 3 checked suitcases.I don't know how old your kids are but the ones I will have will be 14, 15, 17 & 19 so basically everyone going is adult sized and has adult sized clothes. We have a washer and dryer where we are staying so we don't bring clothes for every day, we only bring 3-4 outfits in addition to what we wear down, plus extra shoes, I am on home dialysis so there are some medical supplies that we have to pack (the big stuff gets shipped directly from the medical supply place). We hope to be able to fit some snacks and stuff in our 3 suitcases, if not we will bring a 4th and spread things out a little thinner. We will still have several carry-ons, my dialysis machine and my backpack, hubbys laptop, and a small suitcase full of camera equipment, then each boy will have his own carryon - video games, books, whatever. If we decide 4 suitcases is too many but 3 is not enough we can use a small carryon for some of the overflow.

What are the places that you are earning Disney dollars and rainforest certificates from? It sounds interesting. Also you mentioned you have a pogo pepsi cap. Just remember that Disney is a coke park so you'd have to get that off property. I don't know if you can use bogo caps at the parks anyway if they are coke caps...hmmmmm

I know it will be hot when you are there, but sometimes you still want a hot meal, especially once you are back in the air conditioning. Back when the boys were in scouts we went on a camp out (I am NOT a camping person!) and one of our suppers was chilli - It was hot and muggy, and we were smelly and sticky - but that hot chili was really good. The Scout leader was telling us that when you are hot on the outside that eating hot food warms you up on the inside and evens out your body temperature. :confused3 i always though the guy was full of it (not just about that - he liked to be an "expert" on a lot of stuff.....except how to hold a job, but that's a different story!) but the chili did hit the spot. Personally, I don't cook chili at home until the leaves start to change - but that's just me! Maybe you can do some multi-use meals - like make a roast, or turkey breast or something early in the week, then grind it in to sandwich spread later in the week. That was always an after Thanksgiving thing - mom would grind the leftover turkey into the meat grinder and we would have turkey salad sandwiches. i don't know what your condo would have available to grind it up with though. At home when I make a pot of chili, once there isn't enough left for everybody to eat anymore I will throw the rest of the chili in with some cooked macaroni and have chili mac, or use it on hot dogs for chili dogs.

Most importantly - Enjoy your trip!!

Thank so much!!!:lovestruc

well out 0f the 6 bags allowed I have 2 booster seats so that means 4 bags for 6 people. I do laundry all the time in our condo:laundy: . I do pack 4 outfits to and bring 2 pairs of shoes.. now I bring 10 free laundry soap samples to :woohoo:

I normally do not bring carry on luggage except for the l ones. So now we all will have a carry on. I will check in the food. I also can not bring a lot of suit cases because I will have no room in the trunk..
I will use my pepsi bogo at the wal mart.. Thanks for the good Chilli advice:idea:

OMG! please not walmart! ugh! :(
but if you must, I will not hold it against you. Target needs to build a store in your town or closer to you, but again, 15 miles really is not all that bad, just a few more from where I live. :)

ok now my dad might come with us:cloud9: which would be great because I am a total daddys girl and he loves DISNEY

but I might have to purchase his ticket.. I am sure dh will give me some money towards his ticket, but I do no he will say" You have money take it out of your Disney money:eek: " Blah.. blah..:listen: ect

anyway I have managed to save an extra 60$ which I could use to buy my dad his airfair, but I will need more. Also I dont know if I should grab it now or wait:scared1: I am buying his airfair because he will have to rent a car now due to not enough room for all of us..

also some hopefull news my bzz agent points are being turned to mypoints which gives me enough for 2 Rainforrest gift cards:woohoo: and 1 more gift card for 25$ and I also will have earned 25$ by july. So that will give me 50$ worth of possible fift cards:cloud9:

also if my dad dose come he will give me money towards food but I might have to cook more??

Apart from added expenses, things are coming along nicely it sounds to be. Yeah! to the rain forest gift cards, and to adding more value to your others as well! :)
I wish people that I drop hints to, or just tell outright, regarding gifts, that I would love to have a Target card, or Macy's, would listen better! ;)of course in the event of DL trips Target is preferred, or gift cards for grocery stores would be great too, I would still rather prefer Target though of course, especially if I will have an opportunity to shop at a SuperTarget store, I could have a field day in one of those stores!

I know exactly what you mean regarding gift cards as gifts. My mother hates giving money or gift cards she would rather buy "stuff". It doesn't matter what the stuff is, or whether anyone likes it, wants it, or will use it, she'd rather give stuff than cards. She did finally break down this year an buy my oldest a McDonalds gift card because she just didn't know what else to get - I had been pushing McD's and Starbucks cards on her all shopping season because that is what he spends his money on. I have 3 kids - her only grandkids, and she tried to keep things even when she buys for them, but she doesn't keep track of what she's bought until she goes to wrap it that's when she realized she was "short" for Sean. I got some Christmas dishtowels and potholders this year because she just didn't know what to get. :confused3

Now once I did receive a pet store gift card, I love those too, however apart from that..........still waiting........can't wait until I have a job, so I can buy myself a Target gift card! ;) he! he!

When it comes to recycling, find out exactly where the closest recycle yards are, then call unless you have found out positively already, regarding the price for aluminum for example, for the county that I live in, I know by reputation that one recycle yard, does not pay as well as another company does. So believe it or not, even recyclables, is like gold, for the value to be paid, really does depend upon the company.

You just described my mom!!!! My mom hates to give gift cards, but she also hates shopping (unless it's jewelry or tiffany lamps from HSN - She's addicted to HSN!! Oh and Marshalls!) She will always come to me asking what I want or what everyone else wants - I am the one who keeps track of that stuff.
I keep a wishlist on wishcentral.com for everyone. Because she hates shopping, she gives me the money to go get gifts for her to give. For DH's Bday she gace me $150 to get him something. I picked up $150 Disney Dollars to go towards out Hoop Dee Doo Revue - something he wants to do but was worried we could not afford. So waa-laa! she gave him tickets to a dinne show for the fam. She got upset with me because it was Disney dollars, her arguement was she could have just given him real cash instead.
Which is something she rather do than a gift card. Ummm if it's a gift card the person wants, isn't it the same thing???

This one bag check is really stressing me out. I need advice:teacher: . Should I ship a bunch of my stuff to our condo? Or should I just buy it there? If I buy it there I will have to put more money on my walmart gift card for food:rolleyes1 which I could take out of our weekly food money.. By takeing the snacks for our trip(that I have hid) and placeing them in the cubbards..

But then I have to buy 2 jellys 2 penutbutters and I cant live with out the Oxy Clean. Also then I have to buy laundry soap, mayo mustard, salad dressing.. uhh I am stressed

I just do not know what to do. Let me tell you I really dread food shopping with the family:mic: :hyper2: :clown:  :hourglass ahh what a pain.. They are all going to want to come...maybe I could sneak out..

I agree, gift cards are like cash, cash is best still, of course. Whenever someone wants to give me cash as a gift, which is extremely rare mind you, I am more than happy to accept it, better than anything else, unless of course it is something that you specifically requested, different story then.

Why not not bring along one bag with light weight food stuffs, then when at your condo, order from one of the grocery store delievers. That way, you don't have to have everyone with you, driving you nuts, with everything from is this what you want? to this is what I want! not that! I hate that! I won't eat that! you eat that! if we had a dog, even he would not eat that! ;) to stop throwing stuff into my cart, I have a tight budget here! unless you want to contribute money for the groceries! definitely order groceries from your condo! I believe that is the best thing to do. You can always go to a store afterwards, to buy anything that you might have run out of, or forgot to add, or if you just feel like going and doing some shopping, etc. :)

I posted this on the 21st of May, elsewhere, but I wanted to share it here too :)

before the paste, I wanted to add, that there is also a new supply of Ariel and Nemo tin pencil containers (minus pencils, but that is essentially what they are) and that as of yesterday, there currently is, as well, I also spotted some magnetic notpads, also there is a new supply of Ariel diaries, complete with lock and key. There were many this past Wed. as well as this past Friday (yesterday)

I went to Target today, and there was a new supply of Ariel and Nemo zip lock baggies, inside the package, there is 20 in total, ten sandwich baggies and ten snack size baggies. Also a new supply of Ariel purses, jumbo size crayons (Ariel and Nemo) stickers and tattoos (Ariel and Nemo) packages of art work with pens (Ariel and Nemo),I found some artificial nails, and lip gloss (Ariel) new supply of Ariel and Nemo ice packs (two per package) and what is new to me, are these really cute little Ariel round plastic snack containers, with a screw top lid, and one side of the top, opens and closes easily for a little one. All of the above for one dollar.
Non-Disney water/fan mister spray bottles for $2.50 each, all located in the $1.00 and $2.50 bins, I so like those bins.
Also there, some of the cutest retro 50's vintage signs, and cherry, and gingham dishtowels, salt and pepper shakers (cherry design and chicken) and matching (from dish towels) aprons, and the dishtowels come in white with cherries, blue with cherries and yellow with cherries, and also there are packages of four each cherry design as well as the gingham design cheese/butter etc. spreaders. Also the gingham design on a red background for the oven mitt and pot holder set, and is a border that runs toward the bottom of the white dish towels. The cherry design also has its own color co-ordinating oven mitt and pot holder set (set of two) oh almost forgot to add, matching vinyl table cloths as well.
I love the cherry and gingham design, especially the cherry.

Happy shopping at Target! remember see spot save!

Again, there is always my weekly or bi-monthly or monthly shopping trip recommendations.
Is your town large enough for a Target? either way, if you are interested in doing so, you can always contact them by phone and or email, or by letter as well, to let Target know, that you would love to be able to shop with them more often, however thanks to the price of gasoline, that it is but rare occasion that you can do so, as a result, you would love to have a Target built in your town, anyway, something to that effect. :)
I would give it a try, the corp. might just be planning to build closer to your home. :)

all right dh wants us all to only bring carry on bags. We are arrive so late and dh just wants to get off the plane and go..
well that means 7 people and all my pre bought food and booster seats.. ahhh how am I going to do this?:rolleyes1

well I can take a bunch of the snacks and some food and use them now .. This will allow me some money for my trip:teacher: (which I should have done in the first place) so I plan to take about 40 more and put that away for food on my trip.. basicly It will look like I just went shopping and dh said it was fine.,I will be takeing all the snacks out of hideing:rolleyes1

Now I plan to still take a suit case filled with snacks at least for inside WDW All of my drop inns and I have a ton:drinking: all of my lays chips in a tube . 2 boxes of microwave popcorn (I hope that can be brought as carry on. )thempopcorn:: all of my oatmeal 6 boxes of poptarts. 12 on the go packs for the parks. Also 2 boxes of gronola bars and 3 boxes of mac and cheese and 4 free samples of my hamberger helper.

I am going to need to buy tons of stuff when I get down.. I will be hitting the $ tree!

Sounds like a good plan! :) and the good thing about taking snacks, and other food items, in one of the carry ons, is that when everything is gone, you can use the carry on for anything extra that you may bring back, like fun souveniers, etc. :)
what is the latest head count? you know, if you lived in Ca. you would just have to take me too! ;)

Keep on keeping on!

Sometimes I wonder if our DH's can even fathom how much planning we have to do. Like how on earth you are going to pack all of your clothes and food for 7 people in carry on bags! I pack food for our family of 5 when we go and I have a suitcase just for food alone. Honestly, sometimes my DH says here's the deal, now make it work. Yeah, right. Good luck sister. I've been reading along, so I can't wait to hear how you do it.

Your story is but another reason why I do believe more and more that men are frrom Mars and Women are from Venus.
I cannot imagine having, I believe it was at last count, 8 people only traveling with carry on luggage, one of which has as many appropriate for traveling food in it.
Hopefully she will order groceries from a near by store, that way she can carry a lighter bag, and not have to go out to do any grocery shopping, or just minimal shopping, something to that effect. :)

well dh went out and bought 3 rolling carry on suit cases.. for 6 people to share:rotfl:

add the 2 booster seats thats a total of 5 and that gives me one extra for food:confused3 ahh so here is the plan and dh is ok with it:thumbsup2 I will put anothor 40 on my gift card which will give me 140.. When we arrive I will have dh and my dad go SHOPPING with my list! (also my dad will give me 40 for food.) what ever is over the balnce dh will use out of our weekly food budget from home:yay:

also dh is so stinking pickey he has to buy his razors when we get down and they are 7$ and his dedorant which will cost some $.. But he is the one that wants carry on only..

I am going to have to make a detailed list for dh.. When he shops he just grabs and then he wonders why it was so much:duck: .. So that is something I will have to put together.. I really should not have to purchase alot more due to the fact I have 2 free 6 packs of yogurt.. 2 free boxes of Granola bars
2 free boxes of frozen pretzels. I also will have 2 free cases of Coke(my coke rewards)..

You have to post a picture of your carry ons when you have them packed so all of us can see what a great packer you are. I am still amazed that you will be able to fit everything in those 3 things. Do you have to take diapers too? Those alone could take up their own suitcase. I understand about not wanting to pay for luggage, but sheesh:faint:

Back to packing... I am going to try to either roll the clothes or use my travel space bags (I just got a set from my mom). I am also going to call the airline and see if my booster seats can be gate checked.
also I do wash while we are there so dh and I only pack clothes for 3 days= 4 days of clothes... My kids I like them to have a varity because I like to take pics and I hate to see the same shirt on the eniter vavcation:laughing:

wish me luck.. I know its a pain that dh wants us to use carryons but he made a big Disney step:lovestruc when he went out on his own and bought suitcases for Disney:love: maybe he is just a tad bit excited....:bitelip:

Stahshee, I know it might sound like we are rippin' on your husband and I know that he is trying to do the best he can with what you have, but it's just hard for me to fathom fitting everything needed in those small cases. I'm sure it will work out fine and you'll have a great time. At this point if I could get to WDW right now, having to wear only one outfit the whole time, I would.:rotfl2:
Like I said, post a photo of the completed task.

OMG! I would love to see pictures too of the completed packing task! (whew!) I think that is a good idea, since you are only taking carry on luggage, to just bring the oatmeal, and little drop ins. I still do not see why each person bringing their own carry on, can't be done. Why does your DH have a problem with that? I am just not understanding his issue! ;) seriously.
If your father wants to bring luggage that will be checked, he is an adult, your husband should not have a problem with that! right! ? and he can carry a carry on as well. I want to reiterate lmillercrew's sentiment of not wanting to sound like we are being mean with our criticisms, but we are really wanting you to be able to pack everything that you need to, we are just wanting you to be able to have a good trip, and not to become stressed out over the limitations that your DH is currently placing upon you.
Have you thought about taking your next Disney trip by yourself? or just you and your children? or you, and your father? or you, your children, and your father. :) Sounds like a good plan of variety to me! :)

Hi!

I've been lurking on your pre-trip, and after reading about the carry-on fiasco I am eager to hear how everything turns out. Sometimes things don't go as planned and we are forced to make sacrifices but in the end, we all end up at Disney! And even though I won't be married for another 3 days, I do know that having a happy spouse is much better than arguing about something silly. So props to you for making it work! :thumbsup2

Also I am thinking about haveing my dad bring my other neices car seat so that way that is one more bag.. So if that works it will be 5 bags for 6 of us. That might just work.

Kudos to you for stretching your budget!

I do the same, as we get closer to vacation.

My biggest thing right now.. is, we pack a cooler filled with food. (We're driving to Disneyland this summer). I count how many meals, I figure up EXACTLY how much food we need. DH thinks I can be a "thrifty" shopper anywhere.. but, it just doesn't work like that!

So.. then, DH eats WAY more than his allotment for each meal... and halfway through the trip I have to grocery shop, and it is like 2x as much as I would of spent at home. *sigh*

He'll never appreciate all the work I do. :)

I even gave up soda.. just to save money and trunk space for our vacation!

Plantlady, I like your tag line, I can relate! ;)

Most definitely what one can spend at home, can be quite less, than outside of ones county. The price difference matter of fact, can be quite shocking,to say the least.
I would find a spot somewhere for at least a few cans of my favorite soft drink :) It is good to cut down on soft drinks, but when one has a taste for something in particular, you should go and enjoy your beverage desires. :)
I hope that you and your family have a great, and fun road trip and visit to Disneyland! When are you planning on going to DL? hopefully at a time when it will be cooler, and a big plus would be as well, not crowded.

We're leaving in a bit less than a month. So, we are NOT avoiding the hot times. :) DH only gets a set time for vacation, no options there. So, we just deal with July heat and crowds where ever we go.

Don't worry, i'll have a few sodas stashed.. just in case. Last year, I lined the bottom of our entire trunk with MY soda.. and then packed everything on top of it. Then had to restock a couple times. So, this should be MUCh better. :thumbsup2

Ahhh, now that is what I call very nice layering techniques! :) he! he!
I was wondering, do you take food into Disneyland? because I am always wondering if I bring something for lunch, if I am going to have to end up eating outside, with security, before I can go in. I know that technically food and beverages are not allowed into the parks, again at Dl, but they sure are based upon everything that I have read at WDW, I would like to know why the double standard? for I protest! anyway, the most I took into DL last year was a bottle of water, even though technically that is not allowed. That subject rather gives me a headache.

No, we won't take food into the parks. I get sick of what we deem "cooler food" much quicker than everyone else. By the time we get to Disneyland, I will be ready for a break. ;)

We are *splurging* and eating two character meals while there. We'll also do a couple counter service meals, and if needed, go back to the room and eat lunch for a mid day break.

We do a lot with beans. We also eat pasta, and some vegetable dishes. We try to stay away from meat substitutes.. as we are not sure what chemicals they put in it. DH doesn't each cheese or eggs, to make my life interesting. :)

I do wonder about the FL prices as well.. Surely Walmart will be fairly universal. We shop in a college town, so it is a *bit* more expensive than other Walmarts, but it is still not outrageous.

Bad, bad, very bad...please don't do this! My hubby works in a college food service and they actually arrest students for doing just that, because they don't allow food to be taken out of the buffet area. Not sure if Disney would harass you or not, but it would SO NOT be a good memory from your vacation...I wouldn't take a chance.:(

Wow, where do you live? those prices are low. Around here, we are paying close to $4 for a gallon of milk, maybe $5 in some places. (I don't have kids, it's just 2 of us so I buy quarts of milk). $1 for peanut butter? what size? I think I got a 12 oz jar of Skippy for $1.29 on sale about 2 weeks ago. Don't worry about your spelling, Stahs! for as long as one can figure out your wording, that is all that really matters! besides, this web site is suppose to be for fun, and not to have to worry about being criticized for your spelling nor for anything else for that matter, when it's validity really cannot be fairly warranted, that is something that many people either do not care about, or do not bother to think about, how valid their statements really are, and furthermore, even if a simple criticism may be understandable, still it really has no place on this web site, in my opinion.

Milk costs around $2-2.50 right now. Yep, 12 oz of peanut butter for $1

I only buy fruit in season.. but I typically spend about 15-20 every other week for fruit and veggies. THis covers a lot... fills the fridge. We don't eat meat.. so, we have lots of veggies.

Yes some people can be rude on this site, for example not long ago, I posted some of my thoughts and feelings about my job situation (lack thereof) and the like, next thing you know, several people posted that I am a whiner, boy that god me mad, they don't even know me, but yet they are judging me as if they are god. I am so glad that those people have great jobs, but many of us, in this world, are still very much struggling, for one or more reasons.
I just wanted to add that, I am not looking for any sympathy, nor do I want to sound like a whiner. ;) :)

YA know what???No one was really trying to be rude about the spelling. I was reading somewhere else and posters were making huge fun of her and calling her names. I thought I would come here and suggest spell check but someone else beat me to it. Spell check is available for a reason. It is available for those who are unable to spell correctly and to give them an opportunity to not look uneducated. Most people do not want to give an appearance of being dumb or uneducated and believe me dozens of incorrectly spelled words in a couple of paragraphs can make people assume those things.
I know several people who are horrible spellers. SOME really are lacking in a proper education. Others realize they are terrible spellers and therefore use the spell check. Innocent typos are one thing but the OP has so many errors it DOES make reading her info extremely difficult. Many do not want to take the time to try and "figure out" what she is trying to convey. There might be some good ideas for saving money in her posts but many stop reading because it is so difficult to read.
There was one person who said to please use spell check and then I backed up her statement with a smiley figure. No poster was rude. Sometimes the truth hurts though and that is what happened here.

I have it in my Google tool bar. I am certain there are other ways to get it where it is handy to use but since it is in the Google tool bar that is what I use. It only checks your spelling if you click on the logo "ABC check". I find the ones that are underlining the mistakes are annoying but when you click on this one it highlights the errors and then you click on the highlighted word and it gives you several possibilities. Sometimes it is just a matter of leaving out a letter or reversing the letters (which I do sometimes when I am typing fast). I just want you to know that I meant no harm...I just find it very hard to read your posts and I hate to see people being made fun of on other sites about something as simple as this. I appreciate that you realize that you have a difficult time and have a sense of humor about it instead of denying and getting upset.Hope this helps.

Stahs,

You sure are doing a wonderful job of accumulating gift cards! you are the Queen of gift cards! I have a my points account, however frankly, it is so old, I don't even know if I am still signed up,any longer. I did not have many points, to begin with. Perhaps I should see if I can resurrect my account, I do not do much shopping on line, so I am not so sure as to what results I may yield with the my points site. It does not hurt though for me to look into it, I think ;) he!he!
As far as making ADR for the Rain forest Café, I don't know if it is necessary, however, figuring such is accepted at that establishment, it sure could not hurt to make them.
I still do not know when you are planning to take your trip? I am presuming this year, but of course it may be next year, in which case you have even more time to save, save, save! :) :flower:

Hi,

I just read everything and have to say I am very impressed with all the free things you have got and how great you are doing with your budget. If you are still looking for a meal to cook you could do sloppy joes and Walmart has a can of the sauce I think for less than a dollar my friend uses it all the time and loves it. That is something that is cheap and goes far!

Awesome! I want to collect cans for my Disney fund also, but my husband doesn't want to do it over the summer. With no inside place to store them and the bee situation, I'm going to have to wait until the fall. No matter. My family thinks I'm crazy for wanting to do that anyway. You made good money doing it. How long HAVE you been doing it to collect that much in can money? I've seen a lot of cans in neighbors recycling containers that would make me some good money. (I think):thumbsup2

Well I am still working on ways to save money for this trip. As I said early in the thread I really want to come home with 500. For Christmas money... So now that is my new obsession always on the back of my mind. …..:rolleyes1

Now I found an awesome deal on a 12 passenger van for 400 for the week... thanks to some one on the dis…:disrocks:
So my dad and I will split the cost of that... but here is the kicker remember, I was going to pay the car rental off after the trip? Now, I really want to give my dad the money when we arrive. So I need more money (I have 1,030) so I will need to pull it out of somewhere. I have 25 in change to bring to the bank.

I must be rubbing off on my dad. He received a 50$ Wal-Mart card from my brother for father’s day  :cheer2: and he said he will use that for our food…

Here are some more free items I did getpirate: ... A free coupon for French’s product... I wrote them an email telling them how I can not get the mustard stains out of my children’s clothes
A free Box of Luigis Italian ice... I am on there mailing list
A free bottle of Purex. I called them to tell them how much I enjoyed the free sample. I asked them if they had any coupons and they sent me a coupon for 4$ off:laundy:

I earned from MyPoints a 10$ gift card to sub way..
I am also on my way to earning a 25$ Cracker Barrel gift card for breakfast for the family.. (I hate breakfast):worried:

Hi,
I've been outta touch for a while so i am just catching up here.

lol dh is a party pooper:( My kids and I love disney as so dose my dad:cool1: dh hates heat and dose not want to go in Sept because of Hurricane season:worried:

any way. I am to stressed I will be takeing one more carry on with me. Forget food. I am just takeing oatmeal:thumbsup2 also did I mention I will be stuffing my purse with kool aid dropins :thumbsup2 (I have about 200)

I have to get to budgeting. There is no way I am going to be able to get what I need for less than 200.00. Ok back to the drawing board....
I feel so much better:hug:

Okay the thing about only taking carry-ons......
i am the carry on queen, I hate to check baggage, BUT this is Disney, this is Home away from home, This is where you put your foot down and say "would you rather save money and check baggage, or would you rather spend more money than neccesary to just have carry ons?

Ok my shopping list
3 free packages of yoplait yogurt.. I got one more free coupon

2 free gronla
bars useing coupons
3 cases of Coke using free coupons

oxyclean
laundry soap (why not just buy drop ins - they are small and pack easily)

4 rolls of toilet paper (won't the condo have toilet paper?)
paper towels (same question)
sugar (start grabbing sugar packets when ever you go out)

What am I missing.. How much do you think the bill will be?

I have major mypoints now thanks to being a bzz agent. I will let you know what I get for my trip.. I have 100.00 worth of gift cards to claim.. Thank you God:thumbsup2

What's a bzz agent?

YA know what???No one was really trying to be rude about the spelling. No one was trying to be rude, but they were rude

You know what they say about people who assume don't you? People who ASSUME make an ***-out-of-U-and-ME You assume people and obviously yourself included will think she is uneducated. You also assume that everyone has spell check. you are incorrect on both accounts
And those people can just step-off. I am curious, do you know these MANY people personally or is this just another assuption?
There was one person who said to please use spell check and then I backed up her statement with a smiley figure. No poster was rude. Sometimes the truth hurts though and that is what happened here. It is my opinion through observation that OP was not even hurt by the spelling comments - the only hurt is in seeing people be rude and judgemental[/QUOTE]

So glad to hear that you are alive and well. It's crazy how life gets in the way of posting. Hope you find the extra $40 that you're looking for. We are going in June 2009 and I told DH today that I'm going to get a bank/jar that is sealed shut so that we can't dip into the "vacation fund". He just laughed and said "whatever". I also told you before that I'm taking your idea of collecting cans and using that money too. (but, can't do it until after the heat of the summer...d@#$ bees) Anyway, keep us posted on your mission. A big budget bust for me.:furious: I had to pay for our condo. I took out of my Disney savings 314.14 . (I put that money away for Christmas to) My husband made me feel guilty about the amount of bills we had to pay:worried: . So now I have been suckered into paying for this house.
. You see we just took a 10,000 loan to put siding on the house we live in.

anyway the amount I have saved for my trip is 1,319. The three hundred is for the car. I really want to have 1600. I don't want to spend that much I just want to take that much and come back with 1,000

ugh I am stressed because I want money.. lolpirate:

Ah...... cheer up Stahs! :) :flower3: you can do it! you can at least come close to your budget goals, if not achieve them! do not become too unhappy, whatever your dh was suppose to pay for, hold him to it, you still have time to achieve your goals, and do not let your dh, make you feel guilty about the bills, if life could be free, that would be grand, but we know, that is not how it works, does he want you to work outside of the home? if you would like to, you should, but if you do not have to, then don't, it is a zoo out there!
Anyway, I have confidence in your endeavors to achieve your goals! :)

well I just got a 50.00 gas card :cool1: (we refinanced our cars and dh and I both got a card for 50) I can use this card for gas while in fl:wizard: .....but no.. dh said well then I am not putting gas in the car for home.:headache: . I will work on that. I might just use it for gas to the airport .
I also just got a free 20 oz coke zero coupon (from my coke rewards) I am saving that for my trip.
I also got a free coffee mate creamer coupon (I have no idea how I got this it just came) :confused3
I wrote to chef boyardee and ask them for some coupons and they sent me to at 50 cents each.. I thought that one day for lunch I could make it. .. This is a treat because I never buy it.

Later today I am going to swap some free stuff with my mom:woohoo: .. I will let you know if I get something good..:dance3:

Good going Stahs!

You should be able to use your gas card however you best see fit! :) that was not very nice of your dh, to say that! :(
Am looking forward to seeing what good things that you were able to trade with your mother. :)

Just found your report today & I congratulate you on your money saving ideas.:thumbsup2 I wish I was as frugal as you, I probably would not have as much credit card debt(mostly from WDW trips). Oh well, what can I say I'm addicted to the mouse & must go no matter what it costs.

Did you make any good swaps with your mom?

Since you are having to redo your roof, maybe you can convince DH to let you check a few bags at the airport so you can save some money on groceries and such.

Now how did I miss the part about the roof? for I so diligently read this thread. :) I say, roof, you can wait until we come back, o.k. so hopefully it can. I am thinking someone has the inside poop, as it were, that might explain, my being in the dark, about the roof. ;)
Seriously, if you need a new roof, I hope that you can get a great price on it, and have the work finished before the rain season hits.
How did your trading go with your mother? I hope that you got something pretty darn cool and useful. :)

It sounds like you did very well with your trading, most definitely good going! :)
What about your roof? will it be o.k. for the rainy season? or will you be having the work done, before you leave.
How is your new job going? I hope that no one is driving you nuts at your work place.

Do you have any other problems when you eat sugar free things? I did some reading after I got an upset stomache after using Splenda, and what I read was that it can cause stomach cramps.

I agree, the best stuff is the SILVER, BABY! especially quarters and dimes, :)
and don't worry, I know nothing about it, I like to take the Sgt. Schultz approach to life, when it suits me, he he!
I still say he should follow through on his word, for paying for the condo, I am trying to figure out why on earth he said he would, then at some point, whamo, he is not? :( that's o.k. though, you can just put extra starch into his shorts, amongst other tactics, to drive your point home!

Good going again, Stashee, with the coupon savings! most excellent! :)
I do not recognize that brand either, but it could be a matter of geographic location. For example, I know of no Aldis in Ca. I don't believe that there is one either in So.Ca. We do have Safeway, (nor cal) Vons, (So.Ca) Target! yeah, I love Target, amongst other stores of course. :)

You haven't been posting too much about your trip lately.
How is the trip planning coming along? How are you doing with your saving? Have you started packing?
Are you going this month or next month?

I am so busy:jumping1: so here is a short up date
Well lets see. I have 300.00 put away for my car rental:woohoo: (600 for a 12 passenger van.. split the price in half with my dad) I am going to bring 1,200 with me and I want to come back with 700 or more.(the 300 is seperate from the 1,200) party:

Just this month I have been grabing dollar bills::yes::
I have put away 25.oo in dollar bills to be used for airport food. I also have 6$for the pool pas at WH.

I also have all my gift cards I think the total was 490.00 I am also waiting for one more 25.00 Rain Forrest Cafe gift card. This card is taking forever to come!

I also have my change jar which is pretty pathetic.. Maybe 25.00:mad:

My change jar is pretty pathetic too. I counted the other day and I had $9. Woohoo!! I really need to get crackin on the aluminum can thing tho. My husband still thinks it's ridiculous, but I don't care. I'm not working, so why not contribute. Sure hope my neighbors don't see me picking through their recycle bins late at night:rotfl2:

Gisele
08-21-2008, 02:38 AM
That is funny Imillercrew, and if you do that, don't worry about it, why should the garbage/recycling co. make all of the money?

ok I went on my trip... I went with 490 in gift cards and I came home with 135 in gift cards... Still have a 75.WDW gift card that I never used.. also 45.00 in sub way 5 in McDonald's and the rest was in Wendy's.

My father and I had a combined amount of 165 in wal mart cards. I had so many coupons that I used. My bill was 205.00 with coupons 135.00 (we ended up going back to Wamart to buy more snacks and used up the rest of the card)

Pizza hut... I did eat there two times and I had to throw in some money on top of my gc. Rain Forrest was so much money I had to throw in about 100.00 more on top of my gift cards. (we did eat there 2 times and split meals also)
Wendy's .. well we never used the entire card. Sub way was OK

I went with 1,460 in cash and I came home with 1,160

I did pay also for shuttle bus tipping. My DD ended up with an Ear infection and that cost 60.00 for meds. I also did buy my 2 youngest some shirts on clearance for 40.00.. My kids had there own spending money . I did pick up two Christmas ornament's for my tree that was 30.00 .. Of course it was really free due to I earned it on Sunshine rewards

also we had so much food we had to throw it away.. Next time I think we should eat more in the house!:teacher:

Oh My GOSH You're back!!!! You don't sound like you had a very good time, but with an ear infection to deal with, I'm not sure I would have a very enjoyable trip. Kinda like going to Hawaii and dealing with a shark attack!! (yeah, DH last year)
I can't believe you came home with so much money! You are very frugal and I hope you are going to post a TR!!:

Welcome back! I had remembered that you would be leaving this month, and I hope that you had a great trip.
I am sorry Stahs about the ear infection that your daughter ended up having, I am wondering, did she end up with such, because of the flight? or differences in temperature between the climate that you live in and that of Florida? or perhaps, she was in the initial stages, before leaving for your trip? anyway, that is too bad, I am hoping that she is fine now, and that she was o.k. otherwise, if not down right great! while visiting WDW.
That is so awesome, how much money you were able to keep, and bring back with you.
Will you be writing a trip report?

Take care, :flower3:
