Thanks Jill~ wow a new thread for our group!!!! wonder how many we'll go thru before 12/26????:rotfl:
Rus got our hotel room for the night of the 26th - right at the MCO airport - he has also booked our car from MCO to the Port & from the port to the parks for the 3rd.:cool1: So i think we are all set~ now Ryan just needs to start those scuba lessons & get certified....

I know I'm looking forward not only to the cruise but the few days before the cruise. I added an extra day to the stay at WDW SOG. I'll be there from the 23rd.

trinibjill - can we add the website to your original thread and ask that if anyone would like to be added to send me a pm? Pretty please?

BTW - thanks for starting the new thread AND sending a pm letting me know. I don't get the email notifications anymore so I have to actively come onto the board to see anyones responses.

Anjelica.
On the last page of the old thread Mark added the reference to the new one. We can't post there anymore because it's closed. (they gave us advanced notice) also, it is listed under Disney Cruise Meets. I've noticed that sometimes I get notified if there is a new posting & sometimes I just check out the thread.

Your welcome on the pm notice. I skimmed thru the thread & sent a few messages.

I'm definetly interested in using Native Way tours. However I have read in some places that these tours can fill up (including private ones) so I say if we are going to do it then lets do it soon (i.e. book). I can put my cc down and then we just split the cost amongst those going. Just be forewarned that we are taking our daughter (5) and son (2) but they are such mild manner children. I'm actually hoping my daughter will want to do some of the snorkeling as she is quite a good swimmer (obviously I'd probably hold her arm the whole time).

If we get 12 people or even less its 650 for a whole day charter. I know I would definetly want to do stingray sand bar and "maybe" rum point beach area but I'm guessing that we will be game for most anything else as they have sun cover on their boats (per their pics). I have also read a ton of reviews on other sites about them and nothing but good praise (even ones with smaller children like us).

Anyone else interested? Ends up being cheaper if we just split the cost then doing it seperate with more than just the family. And I promise I don't bite.

Hi all

~Happy Good Friday and Happy Easter~

I've got an ivy patch on the side of my house that has been growing for 50 years (my house was John's grandmother's.) We have been here ten years and I think I finally hit the bottom! In my spurts outside I've managed to clear almost the whole path! I should go take pictures huh?

Aisling, I will make one more change to the set I've chosen for the ten I need to print for you. Is it ok for me to mail them to you when they're ready?

The Native way tours sounds intriguing...which port was this at again and how many do you have so far? I am keeping the options open for my kids - no itinerary is set in stone :thumbsup2 :wizard: :boat:

It's the Grand Cayman Port. Here is a link to their website http://www.nativewaywatersports.com/. I think Deb was interested in the private tour (all day one) and I think the boat (they have several) can reasonably accomodate 12 people (its the same price from 1-12 folks). It won't get crowded and you won't have to sit with complete strangers. For my family it will just be 4 people (and one will be 2 so doesn't take up alot of room).

The tours: http://www.nativewaywatersports.com/tours.htm

Just got confirmation from Deb for her party size of 2. So we are now up to 6 people (including my two kids).

Private Charters

Native Way Watersports offers half-day or full-day private charters for snorkeling, fishing (reef and bottom), or a combination of the two.

The itinerary for these trips is based on where you want to go and what you want to do. We’ll make suggestions, you make the choice!
An Adventure of a Lifetime

Native Way Watersports wants to take you on an adventure of a lifetime! Whether your pleasure is snorkeling in the turquoise-blue waters of the Caribbean, or reef fishing, we’ll make sure you have the time of your life – Caymanian - style!

Native Way Watersports specializes in snorkeling tours and fishing trips that take you to the most exciting offshore sites. Our boat captains and crews are exclusively Caribbean natives – lively, interesting people who know these waters like the back of their hand and are anxious to share their knowledge and experiences with you.

The warm waters off the Cayman Islands are famous for their dazzling colorful fish and amazing coral reef formations -- and Grand Cayman is the only place in the world where you can actually pet, feed and swim with friendly stingrays. Ride with Native Way and go on an island adventure unlike any other tour company can offer!

Are you going for the all day charter?

It says you can choose where you go and averages to about $50 per person...anyone else want in on this one? They offer space for more than 12 for an extra $50 pp~

Yep - Ddeb4evr +1 and my family are going forward with booking a full day charter and then figuring out where we want to go sometime before then. I know we both want to do stingray area and the starfish beach/snorkel as well. I sent a note in today to Native Way to go ahead with booking and told them right now we have 6. So far the plan is for Ddeb4evr and our family to split but I'm sure we expected another family or two.

I saw the space about more than 12 but I noticed that it seems two of their boats are "smaller" than the one. If we think we will have more than 12 (like alot more) I'm sure we need to let them know sooner rather than later to reserve the boat. Again though this is all speculation as I haven't heard back from them yet.

If you are interested in joining us we have space available and it would be cheaper to split out 3 or 4 ways (I think Aisling was interested as well) for the full day charter. I just want to forewarn everyone that I will have my two kids (5 and 2) but they are very easy going kids.

It's funny how often you "warn" us about the kids...I think most of our group adores children...especially ones that belong to other folks. My son is amazingly good with little kids, my daughter is too but she'll tell you straight up she'd rather pet-sit than baby-sit ;)

I was thinking the same thing, too!:rotfl: We love little kids! It'll be wonderful to enjoy their reactions to the stingrays on this excursion!

Tig, yes, send out the photos when you're ready. I have your address, and the check will probably be going out to you next week. (I'll push for Monday.)

YES - that is a perfect size even with their smaller ones. I was just thinking if we had like 20+ they would probably need to know, etc.

So let me tell them 14 right now and we are good.

John's been on a 57 footer with 30 people (Crystal Dawn out of Pirate's cove)

the shortest one these guys have is a 39 footer (for your 15)

the ratio of boat to people is actually better with native tours

It was sure warm here today...76 in Gilroy...going to have to get out my sunscreen before these next wkend's walks...hope you are all having some nicer weather too....

Good morning,

There's so much I want to do in the house today, but I just can't get motivated to move. Here's my list: laundry, changing the winter curtains to the spring colors, straightening up Jesse's room, cleaning out the pantry, bleaching down the bathrooms, the list goes on and on. If the weather was warmer, it would help, as I'd open all the windows and the spring air would get me going. I'd also like to find a bag of money on my doorstep, but wouldn't we all.

Something good happened over the weekend. Jesse's cellphone was on it's last breath, so we went to buy a new one. (After 9/11, it became a top priority that we all have cell phones). So we go into the TMobile store, and Jesse wants a $300 phone. I always get him what he wants, but this time I really didn't feel comfortable with spending so much money. I explained to him that bills have been higher, gas prices are high, etc, and he really didn't need such a fancy phone. Well, he didn't like that AT ALL. He pouted and then tried to pull a silent tantrum telling me he didn't want a new phone if he couldn't get what he wanted. So I grabbed him by his hair, threw him on the floor, and threatened him within an inch of his $50 haircut. Only kidding, I calmly told him he needs a new phone, gave him the choices, and told him to pick one. He chose one, we left, and he gave me the silent treatment walking back to the car. I let it be.

Then a little while later, he thanked me for the phone! Even hugged me. No apology, but that was apology enough for me. I felt so good, seeing that he rose above his childishness. My baby is maturing and becoming a good young man, leaving the spoiled teen behind. Just goes to show that even though I was responsible for "spoiling" him, things can be reversed. Teaching him the value of a dollar is my new mission, and it looks like it's off to a good start.:thumbsup2

So that's my day so far. How's everyone else doing today?

lol about the cell phone

Finally broke down and got one last summer before marching band camp etc

Told Kara before we even went into store, was buying the cheapest thing, and it wouldn't have text mesage, internet etc - she started pouting

got it down to 2 phones - 1 black 1 rose/pink - told her since everyone has black we should get the rose/pink one - started pouting again - I said fine, no phone then, pouting stopped and we walked out with rose/pink phone

...Jesse's cellphone was on it's last breath, so we went to buy a new one. I have a rule. Whilst a mobile phone is essential for my POM, if Samuel wants an all-singin', all-dancin' variety then it has to be a birthday/Christmas gift. ;) It seems to work... :rolleyes1

Talking of maturing, Samuel asked me to show him how to use the washing machine on Friday!!! :goodvibes Bless him - he's now put two loads of washing through and I saw a pile of neatly folded (by him) tee-shirts on his bed earlier - 'Ironing 101' commences next week... ;)

Good afternoon everyone.

Ok - I wasn't getting any response back from Native Way via email so I went ahead and called them today (they've been slammed from Spring Break the past few weeks). I am glad I did as she informed me that they only reserve one boat on Tuesday's for private charters. The rest are for "general public". She said they are already booked up for private charters through end of August for Tuesdays. In any event here are the details:

- We are confirmed for Tuesday, December 30th 2008 for 15 people total.
- This is a full day private charter (5.5 hours).
- We will meet with the Native Way representative right past security after we tender.
- Meeting time with the Native Way representative is 9:30 and she said we will be back to ship by 3:00.
- She said the "typical" private charter is for Ray, Reef and Rum Point but she said we could decide later on or when we get there. She did advise highly that we go to Rum Point as that is where the lunch is served (additional details below).
- Cost for the first 12 people is 650.00 with each additional person after that 50.00. Lunch is also 10.00 per person. Total cost for 15 people (including lunch) is 950.00 which equals to 63.33 per person. (not including tip but please note she did not say anything about this nor did it state anything on their website - I've just read it to be customary, etc. if you are happy with the guides).
- I confirmed with my CC but they ask that they be paid in either cash or traveler's check the day of excursion. They said they could still do CC for the group but that they add on the 4% service charge.

I should be getting an email confirmation soon and I will forward it on to the appropriate folks. Let me know if you have any questions, etc.

We can just do payment when we get there. I think the best route to go is either cash or traveler's check. We can decide, as we get closer, what time to meet on DCL and where. Maybe at that time we can collect the money and pay when we meet the representative.

I can't believe its 8 months away but yet its going to be here before we know it.

Checking the 2004 Navigator - If we want to get up real early we will able to shop on shore from 7-9:30. The ship doesn't leave until 5 pm. (there are some cool stores)
This tour is at least 3 hrs longer than the stingray tour listed on the ships available excursion. (It's 3-3.5 hrs) and pretty much we paid $40 for that one in 2004.

I found a pic of Rum Point. It looks nice.
http://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/01/0d/d9/8c/a-view-from-rum-point.jpg

And this amusing review:
We arrived on a Tuesday from our cruise and wanted to do something away from the the crowds at stingray city and 7 mile beach. My wife and I rented a car with another couple and drove about 50 minutes to Rum Point. Absolutely worth it. We stopped at the quiet beach next to the Wreck on the Rocks. The water was serene, clear, deep sky blue and only waist deep for at least 1/4 of a mile out. We had the place to ourselves until a Disney cruise boat excursion dropped about 50 people off. That made it more crowded but didn't take away much from our experience. We laid in a hammock, swam, relaxed with a stingray beer and bar specialty drink. It was hot but not overbearing. The drinks were pricey (isn't everything is Cayman?). My wife and I agreed we wanted to come back, maybe for an extended vacation. I have been to many Carribean beaches. This is one where you feel like you could go to write a book its so serene. It was wonderful.

From the reviews I've been reading all morning, everyone seems to love Rum Point, no complaining about crowds. The only complaint I've seen is that it's windy on that part of Cayman.

Ok - got the confirmation email today but it had one mis-print so I sent it back to her to double check on the cruise time (they had on the confirmation meeting time of 900 instead of 930 - probably splitting hairs but I want to make sure we know what time to meet them).

Also - found out that the kids are only 25.00 per person since we included the first 12 adults into the base 650 price - then 13 adults to the 700 price comes out to the same general price per person for adults at 63.xx (but that includes lunch). I just wanted to make sure folks know the above so they know exactly what they are paying for. I basically just took 700 for full day charter plus 130 for the meal (10 per person) so that comes out to 830. Then I pay for my kids seperate at 25 (plus 10 for meal) each so that comes out to 70 I pay on top of the 63.xx for my husband and 63.xx for myself.

Make sense...:)

Did anyone see the gastric bypass thread I started on the CB? My sister is having this done, being only 50 lbs overweight, and I'm concerned about it. I got a lot of good advice, mostly telling me to MYOB, and that's what I have to do. Since she already made up her mind, and gets angry when I give her my opinion, I'm going to find out how I can be supportive after it's done.

For the cruise, I'd love to bring a waterproof digital camera. Does that even exist? I'm going to check it out right now.

Good day, all!

Good day, all!

WOW - that seems kind of drastic for only 50lbs. Honestly I am about 100lbs over (but luckily for me I can hide it pretty well as I am tall and have a bit of muscle from all my swimming/cheerleading from high school/college) and I've been told that gastric would not be good for me.

I have a co-worker who's sister had it done several years ago. He said she felt sick every day afterwards for a year (nausea, etc.). I can tell you with my two horrible pregnancies (where I was sick almost everyday up till the birth) I could not do more than a day or two of nausea.

But if she is dead set on doing it you probably aren't going to be able to talk her out of it. I guess be supportive as possible and be there.

My question would be, isn't the lapband a better option for her?

It's a nonsurgical procedure that pretty much does the same thing except it CAN be reversed later down the road.

I actually know one person who died from gastric bypass...

I am sure she was the exception to the rule but it was really hard for her husband kid to deal with :(

I wish your sister luck with her surgery...

She is your sister, I feel that makes it your business...

- esp your business to worry -

don't pay any attention to those morons on the CB.

I see how much we owe but...

Does this mean you are paying $70 over what everybody else is paying?
(or is this just the amount for your kids?)

don't pay any attention to those morons on the CB.

On that thread, they were fine. I asked for opinions, and I got it. No problem.

Now THIS may get ne in trouble, but I couldn't stand it anymore the way a few people were being especially cruel.

:teacher:

Amount just for the kids (total for Sean/Sydney will be 70.00). Both my husband and I are paying the same amount as all the adults at 63.xx. If we have another child that I am not aware about under the age of 12 then they would take the "place" of the 13th adult on the charter and it would be 35.00 for that child and then a little less than 63.xx for each adult.

I just didn't want anyone to think I wasn't paying my fair share but since the kids were cheaper we "moved" them into the 14th/15th position on the roster and therefore if they were adults would have had to pay the 63.xx each but instead are only 25 +10 (for lunch) more per child.

It's on the Budget Board, a woman posted a thread about the cost of extracurricular activities for her daughter, and there were a few who DELIBERATELY THERE only to pick at her and be cruel. I know this for a fact, because on "another board", the low-lifes are all ridiculing her to pieces. Over there they can do what they want, but when they do it on the Dis, it makes me lose my cool.

OH the Budget Board can be just down right awful sometimes. I think there are a higher level of idiots on that board than any other board (except Disney Cruise line and DVC - I tend to find these two areas to be the most well written and courteous folks).

I do like to go on the Budget Board and post here or there, sometimes starting a conversation and other times joining in - was recently part of a few of the rebate checks and most of the time those were pretty good.

One of them send me an invite about 3 years ago because they were bashing me, and this "good soul" wanted to give me a chance to fight it out with them. So I went to check it out. The feeling I got there was that I was in hell with the demons. It was VERY uncomfortable. But then when aahmom accused me of being someone else, and that she had PROOF through my IP address, I felt better because at that moment I knew she was a liar. She had no proof, because it wasn't true. I never used another name over there, only my real name, but she did her best to convince them al that I was a fraud, hiding behind two names. That's when I realized she was FOS, and that whole community is a bunch of people I don't want to be around.

I know who they all are here on the Dis, well, except for the banned ones, and when I see them pecking some innocent Diser, I can't take it.

TGIF!

My sister just called me (not the one having the gastric bypass) and she wanted information about our cruise, as in she wants to go with her and her family. I told her it's all booked up, but she can keep trying. This is what gives me stress, because I tried to get her to book when I did, last year, but she hemmed and hawed. Now she says "why didn't you push me more". Well, sorry, she missed the boat!:rotfl: I know, I'm bad!

Then she says "what about Universal in the summer when Chad's in Italy." But I can't afford afford a $5,000 summer vacation with the cruise in December. I told her I won't go to Universal if we don't stay onsite (yes, I'm an onsite snob), especially during the crowded summer when we'll need the front-of-the-line access that you get with staying on site. And that's expensive. "Use your tax refund", she says. I can't, I have other more important plans for that money. She's killing me, because I really want to go, but I have to be strong.
Does anyone know a good horse I can bet on??? I need to make 5 grand, quick!

Hi All,

I've been lurking again. It's such a bad habit!

Aisling, don't listen to your sister we need you on the cruise!

Brenda, YAY! for you. I had it done 12 years ago and they are still PERKY GIRLS.

Kaz, enjoy your trip and yes I'm jealous.

Anjelica, we will all love your kids, so stop worrying. Thanks again for setting up the excursion.

Everybody else,

I'm leaving at 3PM today and we are off to Sacramento again. This time for the weekend. I guess the guys didn't get enough time together on our last trip. Oh well, I'll get another baby fix.

I have been having problems with my ankels and feet swelling so I went to the Dr. yesterday and my blood pressure is very high (big surprise there ) and I have a heart mermer. So I am now on a low salt diet and will have an ultra sound done in a few weeks. I'm sure that once my salt level is down and I lose a few pounds that all will be good. It's a little scary though. :scared1:

Have a good weekend Magic Matey's

Hey everyone - just dropping by to say I haven't forgotten the board, etc. Just slam packed with stuff. We have a neighborhood garage sale on April 12th, co-hosted a baby shower today and am trying to get ready for our May 1st-9th trip. To top that off I'm one of our subdivision's HOA trustee and that is just consuming tons of time outside of my normal job. OK - I'm done with the b8tching.

Happy B-Day Nan.......btw you mentioned park - are you at Disneyland?

I like sports in general. The only team I will claim to be a fan of is my Flyers.

I live nearest to Philly and really like the new stadium. It's a great day out with friends or family. Rose and my DH get some great seats too, that helps. Rose's seats are along the first base line right behind the Phillies dugout and John gets seats from work behind home plate. We'll be using John's homeplate seats on the 30th of April.

But won't get to attend too many of their games - maybe when they're in Oakland & LA....:sad2:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Nan!!:bday: party: :cake: and have an awesome time at the park!!! altho how do you get up at 6:30 & be at the park at 7?????:confused3 Glad Molly did okay on her solo flt....Jen had to fly back & forth between Calif & Iowa for years as a young girl....it's always scary!!! never gets better & now she's 27 & i still want her to check in when she arrives at her dest...:)

Thanks for the bday wishes, today has been wonderful. I slept in late and had a great breakfast at Storyteller and then we went into CA Adventure messed around then to Dland messed around and now I'm having a malibu rum& coke before dinner at Napa Rose. Some Diser repo friends came to join it was wonderful to have them join too!

Molly is travelling home now with my other repo friends and Paul will get her on the road from them at a half way point.

Of course now I'm thinking about her non stop again. I'll be that mom that always needs to know where they are too.

(I get ready by rolling out of bed...that's the key to the 30 minute wake up time....)

Good morning,

I looked at the waterproof digital cameras, and :thumbsup2 Thanks for the links.

Very busy weekend. Mel, my brother, Chad, and Louise painted my bedroom, and it was a big job. I hate painting, so I volunteered to do all the grunt work...getting everything out that I could, and moving the big pieces of furniture into the center of the room. They did a beautiful job. So today I'll be putting the room back together. I'll post some pictures tonight when it's all done.

We had a nice evening last night, talking about the cruise. I was shocked that Mel seems to be gung ho about it, looking forward to it in his own way. I think he's worried about metting new people, as he's really shy, and will totally be out of his comfort zone, but once he's relaxed, he can be really funny and sociable. Do we have any basketball players among our Dis cruisers? Mel's looking forward to getting a game going on the ship. As long as he can play sports, he's a happy guy.

Nan, how's mom doing? You haven't mentioned her lately, and I hope that means everything is ok.

Did everyone have a good weekend?

Nan~so glad you had a nice BD!!!!! i was really hoping to get back down to DL for Mother's Day....not sure yet...but if we don't; we won't go again till aug / sept / oct....

Aisling.....how nice to get your BR done....i need to have some rooms painted as well....i hate to paint but will if i have to...don't really want to pay anyone...so most likely will do it ourselves...probably not till this fall - house will be 6 y/o then...& it's mostly the family room - entry to garage & the stairway....so at least it's not the whole house & we should be able to prep it one week in the evenings & then get the painting done on a sat and possibly sunday

I'm so glad to hear that Mel is (still) planning to go & is looking forward to it....does Jesse play BB? Ryan does - so hopefully they can get a few games going....

Brenda, Jesse plays basketball, but he's not too good. He was on a team when he was younger, and he didn't want to continue. But I'm sure he'll want to get in on a game with the guys. Chad plays two nights a week on a team, so if we get a few more of our men together, they can have a nice macho sweat-fest!

Both my kids played BBall in school!

I can guarantee they will play as long as one of you tell them where to be and when for the game(s) :woohoo:

Are you planning to meet for sail away like last time?

Besides linking dinner ressies, are there any other activities you all can think of that you would like to try to do together? Like Palo dinners or brunches even?

ohioworkingmom
03-31-2008, 01:28 PM
If you could pick the best night for Palo, which one would it be? We have only done brunch, not dinner, and we're thinking of trying it. I don't want to miss out on anything else. We have late seating, and I have been reading about a change in the dinner rotation, so I am all confused:confused3

This is a quote from one of them:
We just got off the Magic this morning and there was a new dining rotation. Usually the rotations are APL, PLA or LAP, however our rotation was PLLAPLA. They have started this because they are going to the LA for the summer and are trying something new Apparently the new rotation is also supposed to go along with the shows they have each night in the Walt Disney Theater. Unfortunately, they didn't get everything they needed to start the new menu's for this week, so it is supposed to start next week. However, since they had already made up the rotations, we did the new rotation without the new menu. Just thought I would let everyone know what to expect because we were totally confused when we got our KTTW cards.

I was just wondering if any of you had read any more on this, I am not great at keeping current on all of the boards.

tiggerwannabe
04-01-2008, 08:36 AM
That is confusing...

Looks like a little reserach would come in handy. You know what sights might help (besides this one) are Passporter or wdwig .com. Those two are really good for details~

My 40 years has taught me that life can be wonderful and painful on any given day. I've got a strong soul and can handle pretty much anything...except crying. I hate to cry. Yesterday was the first time in a long time I've let it out. I also know there is much more to come. I have classes wed and thursday but may wind up skipping them if Mika's prognosis is dire.

The only thing I know for sure is it is lymphatic cancer and that is a very bad type to have...she is at a specialist in Philly with John and Brittany to see if there is anything they can do for her.

I am at school now...had to come in to take a chemistry test. I am sticking around long enough to show my next project to my design teacher and I am outta here...I can't concentrate anyway :( :dog:

My mind has been in a fog thinking about our baby.

Her appt is at 1 so it won't do me any good to rush out~

Our kids are so good together. John said they sat on the front step together yesterday for a looong time consoling each other. My MIL amazingly has managed to stay out of my way the last week or so. She has seen my temper and I know that with the situation as it is today I cannot guarantee not to snap on her. My mom's favorite saying about my temper is "if looks could kill, she'd be dead."

MIL has been told it is time for her to leave. Dad is ready to come home and said he'd go to a motel if she is still there. My mom has offered to take MIL in if she doesn't find a place in time.

On a good note, John went back to work today. He's gotten so much better in the last week or so. On the pain scale he's finally down to a 4 - in english that means he is uncomfortable but not hurting.

sorry for being such a debbie downer but I felt I needed to share with all of you~

Hi Chad

Hi Julie

I'm glad to see you drop by! Stick around if you have some time!

Tig, wow, I don't know what to say. I was fearing this when you said you were taking Mika to the vet. One thing I do want to tell you is don't be afraid to cry. It's good you let it out, and there's probably more to come. I'm a cry baby, but I ALWAYS feel better in some way after I've cried it out. You have a full load right now, but know that things will get better. What you said about Brit and Adrian consoling each other brought tears to my eyes. I know you're giving Mika extra love right now. Have you heard anything more?

Aisling, John never made it to Philly. He spoke to the breeder and she gave him a different doc to take Mika to. She goes to him tomorrow. At this point, barring any miracle cures, we are only focusing on keeping her "comfortable."

Losing a pet is totally as bad as losing a loved one. Yes, it is because they are family and are devoted to us and on and on.
When my last two cats died it was terrible. I cried for weeks. They were 14. They are out front. For a while I found it terrible to use the front door. Mika is a beautiful animal. She is good natured and very loving. My heart goes out to you Colleen & the rest of our family.

I'm glad John is back to work. I'm still hoping you guys go on the cruise.

If Ilse only needs a few extra days don't have Gus stay at a motel. He can stay here. There is no sense in her having to move all that stuff. Of course if she needs more time. Yes, send her here.

If you need something I can help with let me know.

You didn't bring me down -- I have had a beloved dog die of cancer and know how important it is to be able to talk about it!

I have a fish extender that I have used on previous cruises . . . not one of those super clever homemade ones, but a cute Snoopy wall organizer that works just fine. You can just do that if you want to avoid the hassle of making one -- just get a hanging wall organizer with pockets.

Jill, you're aces! :thumbsup2

I never had a dog, and have always wanted one, but besides Mel not wanting animals in the house, I'm afraid to get one because I know I'll get so attached and would be crushed if something happened to it. I have two sisters...one lost both of her doggies last summer, and she still cries over them from time to time. My other sister has one that she can't wait for him to go to the rainbow bridge. She says that now, but when the time comes, I think she'll feel it.

I'm so glad April Fool's day is over. I was getting crank phone calls all day. My brother milked the day to the very last minutes, calling me from North Dakota at almost midnight to tell me that my mother was on Amtrak on her way down to the city to visit me and that I'd better get to the station right away. I was about to run out the door, and he says "April Fools!"

My other brother got a mean joke played on him. His co-workers put fake bullet-hole stickers all over his car. One of them went to the window in the office and shouts "Barry, is that your car???" So he runs to the window, sees the bullet-holes, and freaks out. "Who the blank shooting at me??? My son was in that car this morning!!!!" He tries to run out the door, and they stop him, all laughing, but he was so upset, it took him a while to calm down. My poor naive brother.

So now I'm out and about, shopping, hair appointment, odds and ends. I have my religion class today at 3:00, and I'm looking forward to it as I haven't seen the kids in two weeks due to Easter break. I have a wonderful group of kids this year, but I think this will be my last year teaching. I say that every year, so we'll see.

Robin, we did Palo on semi-formal night, which worked out well, as we too didn't want to miss out on the other "special" nights. It was nice, and I'd do it again.

Hi gang,

I'm going to do something wild and crazy today, well for me anyway. I'm going to get my ear cartilage pierced! But it's for medical purposes:hippie: . I have an acquaintance who's an acupuncturist, and he said that there's an "energy point" in the top of the left ear that influences food appetite, and if you wiggle the earring there, it takes away the food cravings. I've been doing well with my weight loss plan, but I still crave sweets, so he said to give this a try. He said to give it a month, and if it doesn't work for me, and I don't want that piercing anymore, I just take out the ring and let the hole close back up. So today I'm going from a conservative girl to a cool cartilage-pierced girl! Wish me luck!

I have 7 months to lose 40 lbs, as I have a wedding to go to and a closet full of beautiful size 8-10 dresses (my old size up until about 5 years ago when I put on all this extra fat), and I'm determined to make it. I've already dropped 10, but now it going slow, so someone pleeeeesae tell me I can do it!!!! If I can pull this off, I won't have to buy anything new for the cruise, as I'll be able to fit all my old clothes. So that's where it stands.

Ok, off I go to get the piercing! I'll check back later!

Good day, everyone!

Edited to add: I told Mel I'm going to get a nipple piercing while I'm there, (just joking), and he said " that's disgusting!!!!" ROFL!!

Do whatever you think it takes to succeed Aisling!

I know you can do it!!!

(Honestly, I think ripple rings are gross too - Rose's son Danny had his done for a while...it got old after about a year for him. )

John and I have been cleaning out the back room (enclosed porch) and seem to be turning it into an exercise room. He put his weights out there (for his elbow therapy) and I hung a copy of an old exercise routine in there and started doing it yesterday. I have no stamina, so I have to work my way up to the whole set. I did a third of it yesterday. It's only a ten minute set - each day I am going to try to get further in the routine until I can do the whole thing.

On the Mika front - Good News!

She's going thru chemotherapy and the doc gave her a really good prognosis!! 80 to 93% chance of remission~the better part, the breeder gave us a vet we can afford. We're talking 1500 - 2000 cost over the course of six months. Not too shabby...now we just wait and see if it works. She goes back in two weeks for another blood panel.

I thought about your Casey Nan...your poor puppy. I think our cat is just as senile~ She's 18yo and meows at all hours of the day and night - drives John completely up the wall but as you know, not a real reason to put her down....yet.

Thank you all for the support you've given us, LY all MI!

Aisling - let me know if the piercing works, I also need to lose some weight, and willing to give anything a try. I just need to find more time in a day to get excercising, if I do that, I usually lose. My girls would probably roll over and die if I did something like this, it could be interesting!!

Checking in.....

Asling - if that works let me know because I got about 100lbs I need to cut back on. (I am somewhat lucky as I don't look 100lbs overweight due to my height and muscle under the fat (I used to be VERY active)). But I need to get back to my former glory - LOL.

Tig - man I really am sorry. Our first baby is pushing 12 years this year and with him being a large dog (Siberian Husky) I get nervous about having to face the day when he moves on. He was our first "child" and while he has somewhat taken a back seat to the kiddo's I still love him to death. I hope your baby will make it and enjoys the rest of their days with you guys (and you to). Just know that when you get to heaven they will be waiting their for you with drool and all...:)

Hi All,

Tigg, I'm so happy to hear that Mika is doing so well. I'm sure the good news was a real load off your mind and your heart. It's also great that John is doing so well. I still hope that you both will be able to join all of us on the cruise.

Aisling, I hope the ear piercing works for you. Let me know if it does because I need to find something to work for me. I'm buying a bike this weekend and that's going to be my exercise. I've ordered a Kimaro body shaper set that I saw on TV. I hate the way my close fit and my posture isn't great because of it. It's a quick fix but if it makes me feel better, then maybe I'll be able to lose some weight.

My younger son has decided to go into the Coast Guard. His training will be in Cape May, New Jersey. That will be a graduation that I won't miss! I'm so proud of him for taking the steps to change his life around and I'm definitely happy that he isn't going into the Marine Corp. How far is New York from New Jersey?

Hey Tigg... Just got caught up on reading the posts.. I am glad to hear that Mika got a good prognosis. My Figaro, the oldest fur baby, she still cries nightly for the furry baby, Cinnamon, who passed away in Jan the day AFTER I got back from Disney. I will keep Mika in my thoughts and prayers!!!

Deb. That is great about your son. My dh enlisted in the CG almost 13 yrs ago. He plans on staying til retirement. Welcome to the Coastie family!!! My dh is stationed in Boston. Let me know where they send your son, if its Boston, I can pm you and give you my dh's last name to give to your son and vice versa (so dh would know who your son is)..

hi all....
Aisling....YES YOU CAN DO this - i have been at a plateau for almost a year....but i will NOT give up...& neither will you! i know already that you're a STRONG woman & will accomplish all that you set your mind to!

Colleen - that is great about Mika! keep us updated!

Soooo - last night was the Daughtry / Bon Jovi concert!!! I was SOOOO excited..& it was FABULOUS!!!! New Jersey definitely grows their boys RIGHT & Jon is still one hot guy....  & Chris is pretty darn hot himself...:woohoo: :woohoo: but - i had a little damper on my evening as when i went to park my car...it wasn't all the way in park, shut it off, took my foot off the brake, and it very slowly rolls forward a couple of inches...right into one of those cement posts so now i have a lovely dent in my front bumper....i was sooooo upset - just couldn't enjoy the show as much as i had wanted...planned...should have~so we don't even Ryan's car out of the shop & now i need a new bumper.....

Well, I did it! I thought they were going to use a thing like a staple-gun, the way you normally get pierced ears, but the guy take out a huge needle!!!! He didn't even give me a chance to shudder when he shoved it through my ear!!!!!! OMG! It stung like hell, but it the pain went away quickly. This might just be all in my head, but I swear it's working already. I have NO desire to eat, AT ALL, and I haven't eaten anything since breakfast. I tried thinking about cupcakes, a big bag of chip, and I don't even want them. But I have to give this a chance, as I can't believe the loop is responsible already. Tonight when I want to snack will be the real test.

The acupuncturist told me that the spot on the ear matches the site in the brain that calls for the release of endorphins, which is a feel-good chemical. It's that invigorated feeling you get after exercising, and an appetite controller, which is why people aren't hungry after they work out. It isn't to be used in place of exercise (which we all know is important), but it's an added help. I'll let you know how it goes. It might just be quackery, so we'll see.

Deb, Cape May is a bit far from NYC, I think maybe 3 hours??? Tig, maybe you can help with that estimation, since you're a Jersey girl.

I'm SO happy about Mika's good news! What a relief!

My laptop battery is about to die, as I'm in the car, but I'll be back on later!

Hi Brenda, Robin, Anjelica, and Kelly!!!!!!!!!!

Deb, Cape May is a bit of a ride but not so far where I won't make the effort to come meet you! It's 2 1/2 hours south of me...maybe Aisling is about another hour north :confused3

Have a great weekend Magic Mateys.

Aisling and Tig, we will definitely be heading your way. It would be fun to fly into New York, stay a few days and then drive to Cape May. Or we could do the reverse. I've never been to New York and that would be a perfect opportunity.

Just checking in to say hi. Although it doesn't seem like I missed alot of posts (which I have to say is good as I don't like missing alot and then trying to butt my way back in).

Asling - hows the piercing going? Do you think its helping? For me the good news its nicer weather so I am just out and about more which I think helps alot. I really would like to get down in weight. For awhile here I had a pretty good motivator - something my forefathers would be so very proud of me for. My friend is a liberal (actually many of my best friends are liberals) while I am pretty conservative. We made a bet that whoever lost 55-60 pounds before the next election that we would vote for each others candidates. If neither of us made it or both did it was a wash then. I need to get on it...:)

Tig- what is the latest on Mika? It sounds like the prognosis is alot better now.

I'm just getting ready for the neighborhood yard sale next Saturday. After that I need to get ready for our trip to Disneyworld May 1-9th. This will be our son's first trip (he will be almost 18 months) so this is pretty exciting for us.

Your trip will be here in no time!

Where did you say you were staying in May?

Mika is holding on...her lymphnodes aren't swollen anymore but she is obviously still sick. We have to make her get up and outside a couple times a day and are feeding her babyfood and cooked chicken...it's all she'll eat.

This is going to be a looooong road we've chosen. John wants one more trip to the beach with her....Mika Loves our weeks at the beach~

Mika is such a beautiful dog. I love that photo.

Anjelica, my Chad will love to hear that you're conservative. He recently abandoned his beloved Republican party to re-register as a Conservative. He takes this all very seriously!

I sent you a PM, with my ear info. I'll post for all to read, but Jesse just got in the car, so I'll be driving home now, and Tiggie won't let me drive and Dis anymore, so I'll BBL!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like the wine label, but one thing: have you thought about using a photo of real grapes instead of the clip art? I was thinking it would make the label look more yummy, and also give you more of a chance to show your photographic skills.

The collage is really cool. What's that effect called? It's very unique, and I'd bet no one else in the class has used an effectblike that.:thumbsup2

Brenda, how's the walking going? Seven miles in one day is alotta miles! I hope Dale gives you a nice foot massage after a walk like that!

About the accutane, my nephew had severe acne, and accutane cleared his face right up; it was amazing. Mel's niece also used it for acne on her back, which was pretty bad. Again, it worked perfectly. I never had a pimple, inhertied my gramma's good skin I think, and that got passed on to Chad who also never had acne, but the rare pimple. Jesse, however looks like he's starting to have acne, and hopefully it won't bad. Mel had it pretty bad as a teenage, both of his cheeks covered. It's such a drag at that age, but thank goodness there are treatments. I can't wait to see Ryan's handsome face!

Some news: Louise booked a trip tp Universal for her and Chad for when Chad comes back from Rome. They'll be staying at the Royal Pacific onsite, and man I wish I could go, too! But it's ok, because the cruise will be here soon enough. Jesse's nose surgery (which wasn't covered by our med insurance) and my over-enthusiastic spending last Christmas has given me a $15,000 credit card debt, which is down to $7000 now, and by cruise time, it'll be gone if we don't vacation this summer. Actually, it'll be gone sooner, as I think I'm better off paying it all off with our tax refund. But back to Louise and Chad, they're so excited, and now Louise has something to plan for while Chad's away.

So how's everyone today?

I had to mount the wine label already....

the teacher grades them, tells us how she'd "fix" them and then we have a chance to resubmit as our final. Thanx to you, I now know the first step I'd take to improving this one...seriously. I thought the grapes clip art was kinda choppy but used it anyway :confused3

the collage also gets looked at today, it's not mounted yet. I have an idea on how to improve the face detail that I will work on before class. The portrait will be the first one I ask the design lab to print for me - as opposed to me doing my own - I think it'll show alot more of the detail if I have it printed as a 10 x 13 or larger~

Keep strong Aisling, I know it's tempting to want to go on a vacation but you are really doing well on your paydown, no reason to mess that up now~

Britt used Proactive for awhile...that stuff works pretty good too~

I got it thru QVC on an automatic ship system so it showed up at my door every month. Her skin is better now, my job is to make sure we have face cleanser in the house. If I've learned one thing it's that face skin and regular soap (in this house anyway) don't mix~

The walking is really going well...no shin splints or other problems (which is good!!!) did 5 miles today & will again on thursday...Sat & Sun are the longer walks (guess we have more time those days)...but with my Carmel event - will be lucky to get in 3 mi a day....

Yeah - we have tried everything with Ryan over the last 3 years....MK, Proactive, Differin along with an antibiotic microdermabrasion...nothing has really cleared it all - so the accutane is the last resort...i've seen it work well in so many others, but wanted to be sure we really needed such a drastic measure...but we do...so he should be starting treatment by end of week....went for his blood tests yesterday...

Good morning!

Last night Louise showed me that she's started doing geneology research on her family, and it's so interesting.

She found the ship manifests that have the names and info about all four of her great, great grandparents who came over from Italy. I think three of them came from Sicily, all steerage class, with details such as their heights, ages, eye color, skin color, any distinguishing features (scar on face), and the addresses where they were headed to. She has two addresses in Little Italy that she's going to go look at, where her ancestors lived after arriving here in NYC in the turn-of-the-century. It's funny because all of them were small people, 5'2, 5'3. even the men, but Louise is the shortest in her immediate family at 5'9. Her brothers average 6'4, and her sister is 6'. So where that tall gene came from she'll try to find out!

If anyone is interested, the Ellis Island website has an extensive free search for those who came over by boat and went thru Ellis Island. They even have a "sounds like" feature, if your're not sure of a last name, but know what it sounds like. Amazing. And much of this info has been uploaded by volunteers of Mormons who are very much into geneology, so thanks to them, the Ellis Island search site is loaded with information.

And if you ever in NYC, I STRONGLY recommend taking a visit there. It's an amazing history lesson. And you get to see my daddy's name on the Wall of Immigrants (from Turkey) and my great grandmother (from Norway).:goodvibes

Kaz, are you back from Barbados???

Nan, don't you love us anymore? Give us some details about your Repo cruise! What are the chances you'll be on the NYE cruise?

Next week is Passover, and I'm looking forward to going over to celebrate with my brother's family. His wife is Jewish, (Cory's mom, my nephew who's coming with us on the cruise), and although they're not religious, they do a beautiful Passover Seder every year. I'm so lucky to be in a multi-cultural family. Wanna hear about it? OK!:thumbsup2 (I'm chatty this morning, actually I'm trying to escape housework):

My dad is a Muslim from Turkey, my mom is a Lutheran from Brooklyn via Norway, my husband is a Catholic from the Philippines, his mother is from Spain. My sister is married (separated) to a Black Baptist Creole NYS trooper, my other sister has a brother-in-law who's gay and went to Canada to marry his significant other both named Joe, my brother is married to a Jew with family from Russia and Poland with family members who died in the Holocaust, and my other brother was engaged to a Buddhist from Thailand, but he ended up marrying a lovely girl from Morgan Hill, California and they're both in the Air Force. My uncle is married to a Puerto Rican with 9 kids. My other uncle is half-Irish, but that's a skeleton in my gramma's closet, bless her randy heart!

So there you have Aisling's family, a mix and match of mutts!!!!!!!!!!

Got back this morning - OMG those overnight transantlantic flights are a killer!!! Still we had a fab time - Dick and Sam went scuba-tastic whilst I just chilled, drank rum punch and read many books... Bliss... :cloud9:

Love your family history, Aisling. I looked into mine a while back and discovered Romany gypsies plus Eastern European Jews on my Mother's side. Ironically, members of both strands were persecuted, incarcerated and ultimately perished in Nazi Germany. :(

I traced two different strands of French ancestry through my my Father's family - my grandmother's people came to England via Normandy and Canada whilst my beloved Grandaddy's ancestors arrived in Liverpool on a slave ship from St. Lucia in the late 18th Century. We know they were freed slaves - probably my gggggg-mama was the French plantation owner's illegitimate daughter... I'm a proper mixed bag!!!

Tiggie, I'm glad you got the check. And you're very welcome, my friend. All I did was make your work known to them, and the quality of your work spoke for itself.:thumbsup2

I was SO bored yesterday, and I think I flipped my lid for a while, hence my loitering so much alone here on our thread!

Last night I drove to a shoe store to pick up a pair of shoes I had on order, and the street was closed off. At first I was so mad because I didn't know why there were barracades up which prevented me from going down the block. No biggie, I parked and walked, and saw there was a commercial being made. I watched for a few minutes, and the poor lady had to re-do her scene so many times, she was eating a huge canoli, and everytime they said CUT, she spit it out. She must be able to keep food lodged down her throat without fully swallowing it, and then regurgitating it, because when she was eating it, you couldn't see any chip monk cheeks where she could have been storing it in her mouth! (Now that's what I call talent! LOL) Anyway, I thought of you, Tig, as they had still photogs there as well as the filming crew.

Should I go do :laundy: now?? Nah!:lmao: LOVE IT!!!!

nothing much going on in my world today....Mika is having a good day so far today, she got down the steps to the outside by herself - she hasn't done that in two days.

Carmel huh? You gotta bring me some pictures of that place - I understand it's gorgeous but have never seen it. Some of my favorite photos from our California trip last year (besides the Disney ones) are from the coast~

Mom, you've been quiet for a while...how long before you know if you're going to Nationals this year?

Hi Kaz, do we get to see any shots from Barbados????

Hi Nan! Sounds like my SPA ***** is gonna have a GREAT cruise ::yes::

Aisling, buddy, you are too much. I want to come see you, now I have to wait til Mika's better :( Being stuck at home is the pits....I only have a month left before I really need to be back at work. My life made sure being unemployed didn't turn into a vacation at all, I actually look forward to going back to work

Hello to all the Magic Matey's out there~

Have a Great Weekend!

Wow!!! That's so efficient!!! :thumbsup2 We don't really do streamlined service here in the UK... ;)

I didn't take many, Tigg! Not sure why - I guess my heart just wasn't in it. Still here's one of the view from our apartment...

Access to the beach was via a lift - I took this shot from a 4th floor plunge pool...

Dick and Samuel chilling in matching robes after a day's diving...

Samuel in the surf. The camera really doesn't do it justice as I've never seen an ocean look so many vibrant hues of blue - it went from indigo, to teal, to turquoise and ended up aquamarine... Gorgeous...

Wow Kaz...that's really beautiful~

A long time ago I realized I have to force myself to pick up the camera...it's so easy to enjoy where you are and not come home with any pictures of it.

I live by my photos, so no matter how much it peeves the family and friends that "I have my camera out again," I will absolutely come home with lotsa memories and some scenic stuff that I can later sell~

I am contemplating putting a book together...a real book.

We had a speaker in class wednesday night that did. When I looked at his book (I didn't tell him but I thought this) I realized my stuff is so much prettier than his. I have a friend (Scrapbooker Sharla Whalen) who is making a book. I am going to ask her how to and who she thinks I should speak to publisher-wise :scratchin

I'm trying harder to be on top of taking photos as I appreciate the way the images documents our lives and keep the memories alive... :goodvibes

My favorite passtime is going thru old photographs...

it's easier nowadays cause I can look at them thru my photobucket~

I have a coupon for a free book thru a DISer here...I can get y'all the link if anyone's interested, you have to use their software and pay for s&h costs so it's not "totally free" to use.

I would use that or Brenda's Creative Memories and start having personal books made of my family shots. With the way my time goes it's the only way I'm gonna get scrapbooks made of any of my photos :confused3

Aisling, you and Brenda and me need to coordinate my making one from your house....I'll buy the credit thru Brenda and come see you to actually take the time to put together the book. Maybe Louise'll be around too since I most likely would come during a weekend~

Just checking in. My sis and family are here from upstate doing a college visit with my nephew, and tonight they're off to Florida for a week at Universal. I showed my BIL the Disboards, and he was up half the night reading the Universal boards like crazy. He's an obsessive planner, and he found paradise! My sister really wanted to go to WDW, as ny niece is only 5, and a lot of Universal will be over her head, but they're all excited about it just the same.

My other niece who's 9 and lives in North Dakota called me last night to tell me her good news that she bought 2 mice as pets. Ok, I tried to sound happy for her, but I have a terrible phobia of mice (and bugs), and then I proceded to have a nightmare about mice running loose in my house. Telling you I woke up this morning with heart palpitations would be an
understatement! But I'm glad that she doesn't have that fear, as any kind of phobia sucks.

Jill, I have a favor to ask of you. I remember a photo of you in action skating, and since I have a new laptop and have no way to recover my photos on my broken laptop, would you mind sending me that photo? Or any photo of you skating. I'm working on a project that I think you'll likee.;)

I'm tired today, having had a restless sleep due to those freaking mice, so after I take my sis to the airport at 7 pm, I'm going to go home and call it an early night. I don't watch tv (even though I have it on all night on FoxNews), so I'm going to cuddle up with my laptop and Dis until I fall asleep.:goodvibes I'm also working on a plan to visit New Orleans in a couple of years, so that'll ease me into sleep.:goodvibes It may have to be a solo trip, as I can't convince any of my kids or hubby to go with me. But I really really want to go.

So pals, I'll be back on later if anyone else wants to check in and say howdy do!

Wishing you all a good afternoon!
