The food talk is killing me, I just walked out in the kitchen and Claudia was sitting there eating pizza with a guilty look on her face. :goodvibes
I am however killing you guys on the weight loss front.
Ok, what you all don't know, is that Artie and my son have been trying to gain weight this last month. Artie for his surgury and Owen wants to hit 60 lbs popcorn:: . So what has been happening to mommy in a house of overindulging skinny people? Oh, you guessed it....tight pants. So now I have to hit the treadmill extra hard, while Artie drinks milkshakes...and people feel sorry for him.:confused3 He's doing great though, and hasn't complained once...ok, twice
Aisling, the picture of your son was something else. He must have been very sore after all that.

Just an update....Julia will not be cruising with us after all :sad1: ...just couldn't see paying that exorbitant upcharge to add a passenger....BUT she is flying into Orlando early Sat a.m. the 3rd to have 3 days at the park with Ryan :thumbsup2 & if Disney's Magical Express is ontime - she should arrive at the Beach Club when we do or possibly even before us....as her plane lands at 7:30 am....and we were even able to get her on the same flight home with us on the 6th....
At least she gets to go to DisneyWorld with him right? :thumbsup2

I'm ok, I have to go into to work (at least for a few hours) on Monday, so I'm hopping that I improve a little by then. The pain is going a little everyday, but now I'm really struggling with sleep.

Sleep was hardest for my DH after his surgery too.
I presume you are used to sleeping on your side and can't?
He still has issues when he rolls over wrong~
after you are done with the real pain medz, you may want to invest in some aleve...
not much helps him but it does take the edge off.

Just a quick note to everyone staying on property before the cruise. There are some discount codes out now, we just called and saved $240.00 on our stay at POR from Dec 22-27. It's not a lot but better then a kick in the teeth, and trust me I know what that feels like. ;)
code DGL for a regular Magic Your Way package, QXD for a package with Dining Plan, DGM for a package with Dining Plan + Wine, UVL for a package with Deluxe Dining, or GGM for a package with Deluxe Dining + Wine.
We used QXD, let us know if anyone else has any luck

Over at the Trip Planning forum there is category called Codes and Rates, find the Jan/09 thread.
I own a countertop fabrication shop that my Dad and Uncle started about 30 years ago, we do Laminate, Corian and Zodiaq countertops.
Claudia and I are off for a day trip, my first outing since surgery. We are going over to a little seaside town called Chester about 1/2 hour from our home. It is race week there and I normally sail with my buddys, had to pass this year of course. Not a big loss the winds have been light and a little rainy. We are going over today to watch from shore. Should be a great day!

Thanks for the kudos guys...it was completely unexpected because I seriously don't know what my grades were. I am sure I aced Graphic Design, Entertainment Marketing I presume a B, chemistry I was happy if it were a C and macroeconimics was totally up in the air. I know I worked hard all semester. I literally NEVER worked that hard in school in my life. I appreciate school more now.
Artie, I went to a vocational high school and my shop for 3 years was cabinetmaking. I use my woodworking knowledge more now in my home and in helping others with kitchen advice. right Aisling ;) I am more of a furniture maker/refinisher in my woodworking tho. I've built small stuff like shelves up to a bench. somebody in my family has a kitchen cabinet I had to make for my shop final.
I even tried out a shop like yours when I got out of school but found it to be a bit much for me. I can tell you I had some pretty good muscles by the time I got let go :)

We are having Christmas w/my family.. Christmas w/the skids will be the weekend before. They live an hour and a half away, and I dont want to start packing AFTER they leave.
Soooo.. probably go over to my mom's about noon.. have great food, open presents (although none between Brian and I.. we are doing Cruise related stuff.. as the Cruise IS our present to each other) and eating a ton.. YUM!!! no WW that day.. then getting a good night's sleep.. YEAH RIGHT!!! I too will be too excited to sleep. We leave on the 26th. although, I wont have specifics until about a month before, as we booked the travel through DCL.
Its getting closer.. I can feel it!!!!

Not sure yet - we usually have Christmas lunch at my mom's - unless I can talk her into going out since it is just the 3 of us and then rest of day will be spent finishing up all those odds and ends - since we will be flying out crack of dawn 12/26
Found some material to make a fish extender - now need to figure out how to make it - rofl
ran errands - picked up lawn mower, Kara got more warts cut/lasered off of her foot once again - and then dropped off at friends for some last of the summer video game playing - then have swim team swim party later tonight -
marching band practice all day tomorrow and yard work Sun

We will be at the Yachtsman's Steakhouse for dinner at 5:55 (got to love those ADR times, oh sorry we don't have anything at 6:00 would 5:55 be okay?)

Gotta love a chick that's handy. :)
We do everything at our house ourselves, my Dad and I built our home from the ground up it took three years, nights and weekends from clearing the lot to move in. Five years ago Claudia and I bought a 18 x 36 inground pool kit, we hired a guy with an excavator for a day to rough out the hole and we did everything else. We were swimming in it a month after we started, again just nights and weekends. You should see Claudia push a wheelbarrow, she works like a grand canyon pack mule. ;)
Here is a pic of our pool project, we are very proud of it.

I will be giving this a try, thanks all for helping!! The fish extender has 4 pockets, you can only see the first three, and you could probably make them bigger if you wanted less than 4. I was going to put our names on the black with pink, but the DH wasn't liking. Think we are leaving them blank! I just need to get a wooden rod and some ribbon to hang it and we will be done. I was quite proud of it, since I am not the best sewer in the world. Looks good and was much cheaper than the $40 one cost on E-Bay.

Summer IS over here i guess...DS got up early this a.m. & sent me a text msg that he was back from the lab already (he has to have blood work done every month)....but then told me he got up so early so he could be ready for school to start - which is this Wednesday....all this without my help!:confused3

School here starts Sept. 2, and Jesse has yet to readjust his body clock for getting up early in the mornings...but he still has a little time. He's squeezing out every drop of summer that he can get!
Last night, Louise and Chad were looking into excursions/spa/Palo, and they're annoyed that DCL hasn't officially listed the "special nights" to accommodate Formal Night being switched to NYE. The want to make their Palo plans, but are stuck until we know how the nights will be switched, like when will Pirate Night be? I'm going to look at an old NYE Navigator and see how it was worked out in the past.
About the FE, Artie, that was so funny when you said you were going to stop at a store to get a plastic bag! Well, my FE is a bag of sorts, just pirate-fabric that I bought for 99 cents and sewed into a bag shape and a handle on so it can hang from the fish. No pockets. I'm in the car now, but I'll post a pic when I get home.
So Tig's in North Carolina now on vacation...I wonder if she has internet connection there. Hi Tiggie, are you reading this?

Hey everyone.
Aisling, did they sign up for the REAS? I know DCL sent me a packet and in it had my dates. When I can book things, when the final pymt is absolutely due, when I leave for vaca and stuff like that.
That said. I plan on calling the week of Sept 8th and inquiring as to their "plans" for the rotations. I am going to explain how I have to know, in order to set up the Palo night (which is supposed to be a big perk in the REAS package)... When I find out, you all will find out. HA.. I will be posting it as SOON as I get off of the phone w/them.
I am going to book my Palo brunch for Dec 29th. I will ask DCL about how to go about getting the private room for brunch. If once all 14 people have booked Brunch, can we move that ressie into the room, or what the deal is. How many do we have for Brunch so far?
I will be starting our FE soon. Brian wants to have a lot of creative input into the "design" of our FE. I want to go to the fabric stores and check out the Disney fabric and go from there... We have been gathering ideas for the FE gifts.. and have come up w/some great ones. We just have to put this plan in motion!!!! We want to make sure that all people are signed up before we start, so that we have enough...
I AM SOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can look at my old Navigators again - when we did NYE last time (it was an eastern, not western), NYE was the same night as this year (Wed), but at that time they were not doing Pirate night either. I can guarantee that formal will be on Wednesday, not sure about how they will rearrange any of the other nights though.
School starts here tomorrow, kids are dreading it, supposed to be in the upper 80s or warmer, and no A/C in the school. I hate when it is like this, they don't want to be there, and then are cranks when they get home!

We are in for brunch, and the 29th is my preference too. I will try to book, but we can't until Sept. 28. We are also not linked with the large dinner group, so not sure how that will effect anything. I am excited too Kelly:goodvibes

Kelly, they didn't sign up for REAS...out of their budget. PLUS I have to remind them "this is not your honeymoon!";) :lmao:
I've been searching for past NYE Navs, but the one I found wasn't helpful as far as the night-switching.
But here's a link that's fun to look at, about the events going on on NYE.

Kelly and Brian go back to school on Friday and their first football game is Saturday. I'm helping Jimmy move back to college on Thursday. I hate when school is back in session.
All I think and talk about is this cruise. We got together this weekend with some band parents, and all I talked about was the cruise. I'm pretty sure they think I'm obsessed.
I think it will be easiest to pick out Kelly(not my DD) in the terminal--she'll be the one jumping up and down and smiling a lot!! You guys agree with me?!!
Aisling--how do you pronounce your name?
Artie--did I read you were going in to work today? If so, I hope it went well.
Tigg--hope you're having a great time and good weather.
Off to the grocery store,

Judy, I will for sure be the adult that is bouncing off of the walls waiting to board. I too talk on end about the cruise. Plus, my boss just got back today, and he was on a 4 night that ended this past Thursday.. I got a bit of my fill.. and he brought back his navigators for me to read and peruse. Its been a Disney day here at work. Aisling is pronounce Ashling. Oh.. How funny that your kids are Brian and Kelly. Brian is my husbands name!
Aisling, when WILL their honeymoon be?? lol Is it going to be a Disney themed wedding?? that would be cool!!!
Ok.. so.. I will find out the rotations when I call, I will also ask how a group may go about reserving the private room for Palo's brunch... ummm.. Was there anything else that I was supposed to be asking that week that I can book?? I plan on doing this when I call up to pay!!
I agree they will absolutely put formal night on NYE... who wouldnt!! I am just confused as to when they would move the Pirate night.. considering the fireworks and all..

08-18-2008, 02:40 PM
Ok.. I was reading the navigator that Aisling posted.. I want that drink of the day.. Key Lime Margaritta!!! yeah baby!!!
Love getting Key Lime Pie on Key West. I also got bottles of the Key Lime juice last time I was there for my mom's place and mine. Going to stock up and buy more. Oh.. my friend Sue got the chocolate dipped frozen Key Lime Pie.. and that was TASTY!!!
The countdown sounds fun.. do you think that they hand out noise makers and hats and stuff??? My friend Sue went on a 4 night NYE cruise, but I forgot to ask her that part.
Someone on the cruise forum mentioned how they brought a picture matt w/them on the cruise to have signed by the characters, rather than a pillow case, and then they purchased a pic from Shutters, and had that around the picture in the frame.. HOW COOL IS THAT? I might do it, and get the NYE picture and then frame it and hang it. Guess that cat will be out of the bag w/the step kids... but.. oh well.
ohioworkingmom
08-18-2008, 02:59 PM
They do hand out noisemakers, hats and stuff - even champagne!! On NYE instead of the typical chocolates on the bed, they gave out this awesome black and white chocolate that was a picture of the ship - almost too beautiful to eat, but never would have made it home in one piece. We also received a beautiful Disney print of some of the charachters, which I took home and framed. I will try to take a picture of it and post it here - we also did the photo matte thing, had them signed and pictures inserted. I will take those also and try my magic at uploading again!! Practice makes perfect.

Ok.. friends.. how did I miss this?!?!?!?!? I am flying in on 12/26. It has been my full intention to go to the parks to see the Christmas/holiday decorations (as I have NEVER seen them live).. We plan on MK and MGM.. if it comes down to 1.. MGM...
I have JUST realized... I will need to make a dinner ressie.. and wouldnt you know, I have not discussed this w/dh.. I had completely forgot to even look into this.. HOW CRAZY IS THAT???
I am sure you all thought that I would have had this nailed down by now.. Guess what.. I was surprised too. I dropped the ball. Going to call and see what is left now.
Wish me luck!!

Hello everyone. Just read through the past few days postings so I think I am caught up.
We went ahead and signed up for the REAS package a few weeks ago now I need to remember when we can start booking. Not sure if I can but would be interested in doing Brunch at that same time you folks were discussing - December 29th - and it would be nice to get the private room. Can we add on people to a Brunch reservation if they aren't within the 105 day window but we are?
Sounds like the summer is winding down for many of you. Sydney started Kindergarten last week so our summer has been "over" for a bit. Nothing else new really going on.

The first newsletter from marching band directors today - it lists report times etc for the week, games, competitions, which group brings cookies for 3rd qtr break etc
Interesting note at bottom
"Does your hair fit the “off the ears and off the collar” standard? The uniform parents will cut it for you next Friday if it doesn’t fit the standard. Hair cut will be free of charge, but please note that it will not be a professional cut.
Also, all jewelry must be removed. Do not get any new piercings while in marching band. They have to come out. Also no makeup."
Kara gave me newsletter when she got in car and first words out of her mouth - wonder how many won't be marching Friday night
It is in their handbook about dress code etc, but there are always some that think the rules don't apply to them.
should be interesting at the game Friday night

Hi Aisling,
I was able to get the Hollywood Brown Derby on 12/26 at 8pm.. YEAH!!! That was scary.. I was like.. WHERE IS YOUR HEAD AT!!! lol..
Anjelica, you can start booking on Sept 13th, provided that your ressie is paid in full. I am going to go to my mom's (I dont have a computer at home) and jump on at Midnight on Friday night, to get my Palo dinner and brunch, and my excursion in Cozumel.
Marla, WHY shouldnt the girls in band be allowed to wear make up?? that doesnt seem right. Do they say no make up to the cheerleaders?!?! Also, WHY would any of those kids allow someone to cut their hair if its not a professional cut?!?! YIKES!
Oh.. also, weighed in at WW last night.. down another lb. So total have lost 10.8 lbs. Just 29.2 to go!!!

In regards to band - they want a 'uniform' look - they knew about the hair since they signed up last May - they have been mentioning haircuts for a month now - but some just don't think the rules apply to them
With their hats - they want the hair up - aka ballet dancer -
In regards to make up - color guard can wear some - the color guard director bases make up on their uniform for the year - last year it was pretty simple - just some macrasa and lip gloss, the year before it was more - they did have problems the one year - weather was so hot for most of the season - that makeup was running off etc

Brenda, I am sure yours will be coming any day now.
I have been religiously going to my meetings, staying the whole time, and writing down EVERYTHING..
Brian and I are going to Toronto this weekend to see the Sox play the Jays... I have been sitting here planning out how to spend my extra 35 and my daily allotment and STILL enjoy myself at the game and around town. I planned out the restaurants, then choose off the menu for something that fits in my points. I am most concerned about the car rides to and from Canada.. we are talking 9 hrs, in a car.. and I cant bring any nonpackaged items into to Canada or out of there for that matter.. sooooo.. its a numbers game right now.
I want to be down another pound when I weigh in on Tuesday the 26th...
Aisling, that is great about the gym.. I just havent gotten to that level yet. Funny, I am willing to eat less food rather than work out. LAZY!! goodness.

We're having a very nice week so far...
weather's been good, the beach is right across the street...
Mom, we have the Harley shop 100 yards from the house - you want us to pick you up something while we're here?
I bought myself a new swimsuit and found a cute outfit at the Harley shop on clearance. Harley's prices are high - as usual, I go straight for the clearance and shop there.
The guys are taking a nap and then we're headed out to dinner.
Otto (my Neph) cut his toe skim boarding but Rose being the nurse she is already took care of his boo boo.
Mom, lemme know if the cruise docs come in, K? Please make sure Laurie is checking the mailbox...if I get anything, I'd like to know if the docs show up.

Kelly...that is great that you're being so "RIGHT on" with the points system...as time goes on & your weight loss starts to slow...GRADUALLY add some short walks....10 mins a few days wk...then up to 20 - 10 mins out the door & back is easy to get in 20...do this till you get to 30 mins at least 4 days/wk...then maybe do some stationary biking & some walking or some ellipitical (if you have access anywhere to this type equipment)...you'll surprise yourself on how the weight loss will stay steady...but you do need to mix it up sometimes....
i didn't know Canada was so strict with their pkgd fds...fruits / veggies yes...but pkgd/processed???? wow....my ideas for low points in a car would be frts/veggies/some almonds....although i don't allow any food in my car...so thats never an issue....

Yes - headaches gone for now. Lets see, Sean graduates high school in 2025 so I suspect the headaches will come and go till then....:lmao:
Sydney is doing very well in school. She's really taken to it - I think all those years in daycare and preschool/pre-K helped her quite a bit. I figured by now she would be complaining about something but nada yet.
I bet she is excited (your DS) about being a Senior. If its anything like back when I was in HS the last semester is such a breeze because by then our colleges had already accepted us - as long as we didn't totally bomb we were good. I hope she really enjoys it.
I will be booking at 105 days out along with kelly - hopefully we will know before the 105 booking day window what night is what. I would hate to have to move stuff around after the fact.

I bet she is excited (your DS) about being a Senior. If its anything like back when I was in HS the last semester is such a breeze because by then our colleges had already accepted us - as long as we didn't totally bomb we were good. I hope she really enjoys it. "he will" i'm sure...i think he has a few classes with his DGF Julia & they aren't too apart very often these days...so i think anytime with her is good time
I will be booking at 105 days out along with kelly - hopefully we will know before the 105 booking day window what night is what. I would hate to have to move stuff around after the fact. well you would think they KNOW the schedule...but maybe it's not in print yet...??? so is changeableWell I am off to put Sydney to bed and then veg out in front of the tv for an hour. I will catch up with you guys later - have a good night!!! enjoy....i'm off to bed myself shortly..

If you want to eat in my cop car, you have to eat in the back seat.
OOOh a cop and a prison guard on our cruise! That'll make for some interesting conversation!
that's what i was afraid of....& can honestly say i've NEVER been in a cop car....esp the back seat:scared1: :lmao:

Hi Mark and Joy.. and Shadow.. LOVED his pics in his Mickey Ears!!!! Did you guys want to take part in the Fish Extender group?? If so let us know, we can have Anjelica put you on the web page.
Rus, I plan on calling on the Monday prior to my being able to book on saturday. I am going to ask what the rotations are.. what the deal is w/the move on pirate night.. and what menus will be served on what nights. I am sure this is NOT an unreasonable request!!! I am a planner!! No worries. Once I have all this info.. I will post it on here. Perhaps after that, Anjelica can post it on the web page, in case the question comes up again, vs having to go back through pages and pages of posts (And pages.. lol... we are a chatty group)..
Brenda, only the adults are allowed to eat in my new car.. as we are oober careful... the skids are allowed water (it doesnt stain) as they are clumsy w/food and drinks. Luckily, the trip is just DH and I.. so we can have a bite in the car. I dont think that we can bring animal products (such as shaved ham sandwiches on the light pepperidge farm bread w/mustard) into canada. I think as long as the item is sealed in a bag.. Pretzels and the like, from the manufacturer, they allow it. We are also bringing Granola bars (found a good 3 ptr for the 2 bars in the package.. because really, who is going to eat 1 and put the other bacK?!?!?) Also, I plan on not exercising until I start to Plateua.. so that I can totally keep the weightloss going. I do like your idea to building up slowly, since I am not an eager exerciser!! :rolleyes1
Anyway.. Who stayed up to watch Shawn Johnson win the gold??? I was on the edge of my chair the whole time!!!:goodvibes

I'll be bringing a roll, to hold up some parts of me in my strapless blouses!
Claudia won't let me wear my speedo anymore so I may need a roll as well. :lmao:
Artie--did I read you were going in to work today? If so, I hope it went well.
I've been back to work all week, things are going ok considering the lack of solid food (I'm down about 15 lbs and counting). We go to the surgeon for a follow up Thurs. hopefully he will take out some of my elastics to make it easier to eat.
Here is a cute joke I found.
A man was walking along a California beach and stumbled across an old lamp. He picked it up and rubbed it and out popped a genie.
The genie said "OK, OK. You released me from the lamp, blah blah blah. This is the fourth time this month and I'm getting a little sick of these wishes so you can forget about three. You only get one wish!"
The man sat and thought about it for a while and said, "I've always wanted to go to Hawaii but I'm scared to fly and I get very seasick.
Could you build me a bridge to Hawaii so I can drive over there to visit?"
The genie laughed and said, "That's impossible. Think of the logistics of that! How would the supports ever reach the bottom of the Pacific? Think of how much concrete...how much steel!! No-think of another wish."
The man said OK and tried to think of a really good wish. Finally,he said, "I've been married and divorced four times. My wives always said that I don't care and that I'm insensitive. So, I wish that I could understand women....know how they feel inside and what they're thinking when they give me the silent treatment....know why they're crying, know what they really want when they say 'nothing'....know how to make them truly happy...."
The genie said, "You want that bridge two lanes or four?"

Each family participating brings a surprise and puts them in the fish extenders. I am going to make up the schedule of who on what nights, and which cabins are participating.

The bunny is ADORABLE, I just want to hug and kiss her!!! What a pretty girl. I have always wanted a bunny. My ex bf said no. Then I had my condo as a single girl, but it was too small w/the cats and all.. then I got my house and my dh said no. MEN!! (except present company)
I dont mind eating in the car, but my dh's children are just the worst. They can barely function at a table, and forget it, they are not allowed food any room EXCEPT the kitchen and dining room. They have no supervision over stuff like that at home.. Christmas a couple of years ago, my Stepson ruined my couch, he ground CHOCOLATE into the cushion. Literally looked like someone had pooped on my couch.. NASTY, and it never came out. Got a new couch, and new RULES!!
Brian and I will be eating in the car on the way to Toronto. We got the 97% fat free ham (4.5 pts for the whole container of ham) and the light bread. I am all set for this road trip up w/foods that fit into WW's plan!!! yeah!!! I have also stuck to my daily points so that all my extra for the week are usable in Canada!!!

ok.. ok.. I know I said I was going to wait until closer to the REAS Palo booking date to ask the questions.. but I called DCL today AGAIN!! I know.. those poor people are going to have to fill out a restraining order or something.
This one was very nice and Very helpful. I confirmed what my OBC is from when I booked on the ship last.. then asked if I paid for it in full w/my Disney Visa, if I would get the additional $50 OBC.. that was a no.. not combinable I was told.
Then I moved on to the rotation again.. Do they know when they will be making the final decisions... the answer. No. They tend to be fluid in nature up until like 2 weeks before the sailing. That no one really knows the final until they get to the port. Grrrrr.. I asked how am I supposed to properly plan my Palo visit!?!?! she said book what you can get, if it doesnt coincide w/what you would like, tell the dining manager, and they will try to accomodate you. I think to the point of eating to dinners is what she was suggesting.. I wanted to say.. I like some menus better than others.. but.. **sigh** I think they think we are all big eaters... lol.. cruise folks.
Ok.. I moved on to Palo brunch and the private dining room. I have to fax a request to inventory control w/the private room request. The guests names and their ressie numbers as well as my own. Then they will get back to us. Its on a first come first serve basis. Can those that were interested PM me, so that I can pull that list together. Minimum number of people is 12, max number is 14. think 1/2 our meals lately have been in the car - I need a not so crazy schedule
Sounds like my clan - between the two locations of picking up and dropping off for school/daycare, the extracurricular activities (and I'm the only driver in the house as my husband is legally blind) and the fact that we have been trying to get to the gym more - seems McDonalds and Qdoba are regular stops for us. AND - my son is VERY pissy when he gets hungry and wants food now so for us the kids are allowed to eat in the car..:(

I no longer have it, but I had a 1978 911sc Targa. The Porsche Club of America chapters are a lot of fun. We mostly did runs around the central coast of California, went to the races at Laguna Seca and such. They have a pretty good members web site for information. Marla--cute bunny. Have a great weekend. Our season starts tomorrow.
Anyone can eat in my car. I'm so obsessed with cleaning that anything that spills gets cleaned up right away.
Moved Jimmy back to college yesterday. It was exhausting. Kelly and Brian started back today. Me and the dog are lonely. I only cried a little.
Yesterday at band practice, 11 wallets were stolen (one was Kelly's)from the band room while they were practicing on the field. Some were found in the bathroom garbage(including Kelly's)--all the money missing, credit cards still there. We already canceled them once she called to tell us. She only has a gas card. Found out today that 7 wallets were stolen from the band at a nearby school the same day while they were practicing.
Kelly's going babysitting, Brian's going to a football game, and Jim and I are going swimming (the water temp is 87:) ) It was 90 here today.
Have a great weekend everyone. Starting tomorrow, 18 weeks left!!:yay:

Long night here - the football team lost 37 - 6 - didn't score until a couple of minutes left in the game
but
The band looked and sounded great
They even had their 'surprise' for pregame - they are the Firebirds and they spelled out a script Bird while playing the song that Ohio State uses when they spell out script Ohio -
It was hot last night at kickoff it was like 86 or so which on the astroturf field - at least 10 degrees hotter - saw Kara after half time and she was just dripping wet

Cory and Jesse are ready to get home, they miss their friends. We'll be leaving in a few hours, to get home before dark. It's a 4 hour drive back to the city.
I'm almost done with my FE gifts. When I get home, I have to check the list and make sure I have everyone. I'm on my dad's PC with dial-up, and it's so slow.
I'm wishing everyone a peaceful Sunday, and a safe trip home for Tig. (I think she's coming home today from NC.)

Nice campus Brenda. Julia and Ryan look so cute together!
Our football team lost this weekend also. We always have a very tough schedule, but manage to make the playoffs. Our band did a great job and my son Brian did great with his solo! I think I cheered the loudest for him--everyone turned and looked at me.

Welcome home, Tiggie!
I'm in the process of finagling my finances to pay off the cruise by the Sept date. I budgeted for October, but I don't want to miss out on the ability to book excursions at the 90 day mark. I've been ignoring the price of the two staterooms, but now I have to face it!:scared1: Thank goodness my kids like ramen noodles, because that's what we're going to be eating breakfast lunch and dinner for a while!:rotfl:

We took my mom to doctor and we had lunch out - dropped off mom and was planning on zipping by house pick up library books to take - we pulled up in driveway and found an injured bird just sorta sitting in front yard
Turns out it was a cooper's hawk - and we finally found a nature preserve over in the next county that would take him/her and nurse him/her back to health
Of course Kara wanted to keep him/her

He's realized that living in the city "part time" just isn't worth the expense~

I have a high school friend who joined the Coast Guard right out of h.s. and LOVED it. He retired a few years ago with 20 years under his belt, a fantastic pension and benefits for life, and is now working "for the fun of it" as a supply chief at the police department. Through the Coast Guard, he got a low interest mortgage for a beautiful home, a college education (only went for his associates), and had the luxury of working the coastline close to home. He met his lovely wife through the Coast Guard, and has a wonderful family. She also retired at age 38 after 20 years of service, and got a job in a fiber optics company managing communications, which she learned from the Coast Guard. I say to Adrian GO FOR IT BABY!

Hi everyone,
Brian and I got back in at 130 this am from Canada.. OMG.. got hung up at the border crossing.. LONG TIME... most cars were having their trunks searched. I am EXHAUSTED!!!
Brian joined the US Coast Guard 13 yrs ago. I think he thought it would be temporary, but found it to be a good gig. He has lived in Key West FL, Hawaii, Newport, RI and now in MA. Adrian should apply to the US Coast Guard Academy in New London CT. Its the one thing that Brian says he would have done different. He can become an officer, while obtaining his education there. They pay for it, plus they pay him while in school. Its worth looking into. If Adrian has any questions, he can talk to Brian. I can make his phone number available to you guys!!! Plus, he can chat him up on the cruise... that is if the kids are still going!!
Oh.. missed my normal weigh in night, will probably weigh in tonight.. hopefully its a loss or the same, as I counted points ALL WEEKEND!!

Thanx for the school details Kelly (and Brian.)
I will absolutely pass this on to him!
I know it's a good move for him if he does it right~
He's not much of a talker but I will mention Brian to Aidz and see if he's interested in speaking with him as someone actually in that branch of the service. I have to cancel our second cabin cause the kids are definitely not going.
My friend Rose wanted us to go to WDW in October but I have pretty much decided if we're going anywhere it'll be the cruise come December. I can save us mucho bucks not giving in to the temptation and staying home this Halloween.
Orlanr, Your ketchup pack idea is hilarious but would probably work :scratchin

Well - well - well -
sounds like what his grandmom did (me) Moved out of the house - went to south jersey for a while - decided it wasn't what I wanted - moved back home & went into the Navy. Got a education - each class I took I was either 1st or 2nd in my class. Was just average in high school cause I didn't really like it.
I retired out of the military with 21 yrs 3 mos 19 days & was a Sergeant First Class. :woohoo:

Wow Jill.. that is impressive. Brian is currently a 1st class Petty Officer, he is hoping to make Chief shortly.. He did really well in the tests this year, but last years group still havent made up to the number he ranked.. so its now a wait and see game.
Tigg, there is no guarantee that he wont go overseas, however, the ones that go over are protecting the ports for the Navy ships.. They dont see the front lines or anything like that. The ones they send I believe are a bit more experienced anyway, and are usually specialists... There is a unit called the MSST.. they are a type that might get sent.
Brian used to do the Cuban migration details when he was in Key West..
Its def. a learning experience, and a tight nit group of soldiers.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

When my two boys (cats) died I carried them home in my car from the vet. They died months apart. They were 14 years old.
I buried them together out front. There is a big stone cat there & a stone bench. This was the first year I could sit out there for any length of time.
Had to get another one right away.

Those memorials are so nice. All we have left of our dog Max is his collar that someone found. We never did find him.
Just last week (before Jimmy left for college),we were talking about how our dog Sammie acts like she is a human being and is so much a part of our family. He misses her while he is at college. He said he is coming home this weekend to see her ( and us too!) My daughter said she doesn't want to go far away to college so she can come home to see Sammie when she misses her. Then she says, "oh, and you too mom".

A Dog's Purpose (from a 6-year-old).
Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.
As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn someth ing from the experience.
The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.
The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, 'I know why.'
Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.
He said, 'People are born so that they can learn how to live a good Life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?' The Six-year-old continued, 'Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.

I received that poem when Cinnamon passed away, and like you guys, I had her cremated and she is in a pretty urn in our living room. I too started a scrapbook, but have been unable to complete it.

Hey Kaz.....how good to see you posting..how'd you like the Mex Riviera & DL???? i had totally forgotten you were going till Aisling posted something about missing you...& thats when i remembered where you were....so sad that we didn't get our act together & get down to LA to see you
Hi Brenda and all my Magic Mateys! Nice to be here!!! OMG loved the cruise and loved LA - in truth it was one of our best vacations ever!!! We'll definitely be returning to California in the future... I'm hoping to get a trip report underway before too long so watch this space! ;) Shame we didn't meet up, hon - maybe I'll make it to the US for a solo trip in the not to distant future and get to meet with y'all then... :goodvibes
Currently uber-excited about the prospect of DCL's 2010 "special" cruise itineraries being released in October - we've opted to transfer our August 2009 booking (DH couldn't make it anyway and Samuel has lined up work experience at Citi) to whatever our TA can get for us in July/August 2010!!! I CANNOT WAIT TO FIND OUT THE DETAILS IN OCTOBER!!! (Sorry for shouting...) :yay: :yay: :yay:

Hi Kaz! So nice to hear happy news!
I've been reading up on the excursions in the books that DCL sent us :woohoo:
I also just noticed our newest poster isn't on the rosters yet!
Mom, Anjelica; I had to read back 15 pages to find Mark and Shadow's names to ask them a question ... :rolleyes1 I'm just sayin ...
:cutie:
Mark, as I read the excursions, I took notice of how few you really have to choose from. The shocker was that Castaway Cay has NONE! What, if anything, have you been able to get yourself on excursion-wise on your previous cruise(s)?

Brenda and Kelly,
sounds like you two need to get hoppin on those scrapbooks!
I've decided to do a digital book for Mika. Her puppy pictures need to be scanned in, but I know exactly where they are upstairs so that's easy. There are a few on Britt's wall that I'd need to scan as well. Those are mostly the ones of the kids dressing her up. Usually in glasses and a hat.
We have video of her trying on my fuzzy black Mickey ears and a video clip of her and Penny wrestling I saved on my MySpace.
Wouldn't that be cool if I could make a real digital scrapbook and could include video clips embedded in the pages! :scratchin

Awww tiggerwannabe I am sorry to hear about Mika
Got a bit of news ouf of DCL GS tonight
special doings NYE - not much but dress - tux for men, jacket/tie for men (which to me means formal/ semi formal) and for women formal/semi formal
the kids clubs and nursery will be open until 1:00 a.m. and the Stack (teens) will be open until 2:00 - and I think she said the teens might be having their own party - my new phone is being stupid
but for right now - formal night will be 3rd night (12/29) and semi formal 12/31 - but up to ship's staff

Thanks for the info Marla.
The last couple of days I have been in full planning mode, mainly for our precruise stay at WDW. Even though we have our dinner ADR's made, I think I have read every menu on the dis, mostly for the counter service. I think maybe I'm doing this because I am hungry all of the time.
Marla, your lucky that Mickey Bar contest is not on right now, I would have enough sticks to build my own cruise ship. :goodvibes
So we know which park we will be at and where we will be eating for every day. I may need Kelly's help to plan the minute by minute attractions details. (No, No Kelly said we can't use the restroom until after Splash Mtn. just cross your legs) Sorry Kelly you are too easy a target to resist. ;)

I hope I'm not the only befuddled one, but if NYE is tux, jacket/tie, but formal night is on the 29th, wouldn't that sort of mean DCL is sort of suggesting that there sort of be TWO formal nights?

no DCL packet yet :sad2:
Maybe a more formal 'semi-formal' night is what they're somewhat suggesting.....:confused3
Aisling...are you taking a suit for Jesse or renting a tux?
Off to bed - been a very long day....

Kelly, are you gonna let him get away with that??? (I'm an instigator! )
Aisling...are you taking a suit for Jesse or renting a tux?
I've been going back and forth with this, and decided on a suit. But I'm notorious for changing my mind, so now you have me thinking again. Is Ryan wearing a tux? Jesse would love to wear a tux, altho he's up for whatever. I'm just thinking about the expense of putting all my men in tuxes, but I could do it.

Of course not.. lol
Artie, I thought I explained to you that the bathroom breaks are to be BEFORE splash mountain... Otherwise you might be uncomfortable during the ride from all the running water!!!! And god forbid if there is a log boat back up at the unloading dock (which you know there will be.. ) wouldnt want you to have an accident and then embarass Owen and Claudia!!!
LOL!!!

I normally get off the boat to shop. Excursions with a person in a chair and a Service dog in a another country is really hard. (no ADA). I knew this when we booked it.
this is a photo of us at Castaway cay

Aisling...i'm really thinking about a tux (renting direct from Disney) just so i wouldn't have to take up that amt of space in the suitcase...we're trying to pack light so that we only have 1 SC each this trip.....
Do we have a final count yet for Fish Extender participants??? i need to order mine SOON.....

I did try to question more about the dress for the formal/semi night and try to pin down more info for NYE, but it just wasn't there - maybe later - but who knows
In regards to planning - all we have planned is a power shopping trip to the MarketPlace, and then planting our hineys on our savannah view balcony at AKL - waiting for dinner at Jiko - we talked about going into a park - but decided that for just a few hours - just not worth it for us - besides Kara wants to wander through the Lego store
Is that a challenge Art??????????

Thanx for the laughs you guys :lmao:
and thanx for the info Mark.
What kind of stuff do you like to shop for?
(this question is for anybody...I'm curious because I've been on the 7 day Eastern and if I'm not into jewelry I could buy most of the knickknacky stuff here :confused3 )
Cigars? Jewelry? Clothing? Cheesy Souvies?
Hey Mom, silly question for you...what day are you driving home? I was thinking if I could convince John we could ride down and back with you and save a few bucks. My only issue is with Gus in FL, we should visit with him a few days if possible. Would you stay at Erika's and drive back with us maybe the following Tuesday?
We got flowers from Rose today with her condolences. I had to tell her John and I won't be going to FL with them this Halloween. She's already got her BIL and SIL (Ed's Bro) going with them - Deb and Joe rarely get to go on Vaca with Rose and Ed, it'll be a nice time for them.

I'm leaving NJ on the 22nd & scheduled to go back to work the Sunday after we dock.
The ports that we stop in this cruise have better items for sale than the Eastern. Not as many jewelers at these ports.

Tigg.. things that I have purchased on Disney Cruises.
On an Eastern cruise, I got a really pretty ring that has diamonds and looks like a flower. They are all diamond chips. Cost $200 and the sized it right there.. that was St. Thomas. St. Marten.. couldnt find anything.
On a Western cruise, I got several bottles of the key lime juice to make my own key lime pie (and a bottle for mom too of course) and a bathing suit... I dont recall purchasing anything in Cozumel (perhaps just a silver band).. and that time the ship skipped Grand Cayman because of the weather.
On Castaway Cay, I have purchased cute tops/sweatshirts, magnets, and beach towels.. On the boats, I have purchased Scrapbooking supplies and once spent enough to qualify to buy a framed Captain Mickey for $25.
I have found that as the years go on.. I have purchased less and less when I go away. Most times I get stuff home, look at it, and then say.. Now what???
Oh.. and christmas ornaments if they have them.
Soooooooo.. that is what I buy in a nutshell!

i spend (spent) SOOOOO much on board - i didn't need to buy much onland...but did buy some cute shirts etc. in cozumel...some cool stuff in KW from Margaritaville & another t-shirt shop - nothing in GC (which is why Chel & I are shopping GC).....
the stuff on board was for me...the land purchases were gifts.....

Oh excellent, now I may be able to afford to upgrade to a Cat 1 suite. Claudia has inherited a strange affliction from her mother that makes her uncontrollably produce her credit card when she sees glittery and shiny objects.
