(that's so sweet that Mel has warmed up to him so quickly...
esp since he is now the one who's gonna be caring for the baby while all of you are in Florida)

I'm thinking that I should pack up my dog, rabbit and turtle and send them to Mel for our vacation. We wouldn't want Brian to be lonely :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Love him Aisling, please keep posting pics so we can see him grow :thumbsup2

BRENDA HAPPY BDAY :dance3: :yay: :woohoo:

Brittany says Wilson looks so grown up~

Russ, I so hope Paul gets to cruise with you guys.
Looks like he'd be missing an incredible bar buddy if he doesn't.

I can picture all the ladies taking Nan's Mom along doing everything else together. Margarita Tasting, Champagne tasting, Auctions (for the free drinks), at the Spa - glasses in hand, galley tours.

the guy's will all be at the Cigar Bar or the Pool Bar if anybody should need them...oh my.

Nan, I had heard that is the sign of a healthy baby. I have been sick as a dog for over 6 weeks now. Its starting to get better, but still am having at least 1 bout a day w/smells that set me into a gagging dryheaving spasm.

I am sooo excited.. and can not wait. I have already bought the baby furniture for the nursery.. and we have the names picked out already.

Kelly love those names here too.

My Grandmother is Katherine, it was already used for a Grandchild for my kids generation or I would have used it too.

William is Paul's middle name so again, we like it :thumbsup2

My kids were also pre-named.

Molly would have been Wilson and I called her that the whole pregnancy. Molly was the kickname of my first dog, Kowdog, we called her Molly Moo Kow, so Molly comes from a great line of border collies :rotfl2:

Wilson is named after my father (his middle name) and Paul's great uncle Conrad (his middle name) ironically his uncles first name is...William....There are a good string of WC Skjerven's in Paul's family so we wanted to carry on that tradition with our son too.

Family names are nice :goodvibes

that's some cute history Nan!!! With a last name like Tsuda (the best way to pronounce the "T" is to think Matsuda without saying the MA):lmao: :lmao: anyway - hard to put a 1st name, so we 1st had Nick (Nick Tsuda - sounds so macho doesn't it???) but then Dale's secretary named her son Nick, so we ended up with Ryan...and his middle name is Benjamin - a combination of Dale's dad Ben & my dad James....Ryan is the ONLY male Tsuda in the entire family....everyone else with Tsuda name has girls...

Judy, thank you for posting the pictures. You have a beautiful family. :goodvibes Now I know who to look for, and I won't go hugging the wrong people at the terminal or on the ship!

Kelly, I love the name Katherine, ans Katherine Ava is so elegant. We have a tradition on both sides of the family (coincidentally) that the father names the children, and I went along with it. Mel didn't tell me the names of my boys until I had them...Chad Alexander and Jesse James! Mel said if we had a girl her name would have been Grace Maria. I know it sounds unfair, but if I didn't want to go along with it, Mel would have been ok with it.

My Brian puppy is doing SO well, except for sleeping through the night. It was easier with my sons, because I nursed them and they slept with us when they were infants, so when they woke during the night, I'd just let them latch on, and they went right back to sleep.

It was cold today, and that makes me realize we're almost on the brink of cruise time!!!!!!!!

Great looking family Judy, nice to see the pics.

Aisling, I gonna pass on wanting to see the pictures Nan is looking for, seeing that may make the hugging at the terminal a bit ackward.

Kelly, I wasn't sick during our pregnancy, but I was a little queasy during the delivery.

Here's the deal on our names:

Arthur William, I am named after both of my grandfathers.

Owen Arthur, we just liked the name Owen, Arthur is obvious. My dad is one of 5 brothers, who collectively produced only 3 sons and so far Owen is the only Robar grandchild. Hey, I got my Y chromosome thing together anyway.

And then there's Maude (I may be dating myself with that)
Claudia Maude, her dad's name is Claude (I think she was supposed to be a boy, glad she's not) Maude is after a grandmother.

Ok Artie, I'll spare you the latching on pics!

And yes indeed you're dating youself, and I'm in that club! I remember that show. I never really watched it, but I thoroughly remember that song!

If anyone has any tips on teaching my puppy to sleep in his crate, I'll be grateful. He wants to sleep on the couch, but I'm afraid he'll fall off during the night. He also likes to sleep with any of us, but I want him to learn that his crate is his own special cozy place. Someone told me to put him in while he's asleep, keeping the door open, so he won't feel like he's being isolated and then resent the crate. We keep the crate in Chad's bedroom because he has a big room. Any advice? He whimpers until we pick him up to put him in bed with us.

Kelly, thinking of you today, mama!

Nan, I'll post the MM logos in a minute...I was actually messing with them because the smaller hit on the chest has too much on it and becomes too small to read. The buttons would be too small too - the pieces I am posting are for the larger transfers.

Aisling, we tried crate training Mika when she was little. John was so attached to her she wound up sleeping in our bed anyway. Penny sleeps with us now too but I got a set of doggy stairs for her so she has a way up and down without waking me to get up or falling off. We've used the doggy steps for Penny to get up and down from the couch as well.

Tough love and lock him in the crate. My last 2 dogs have loved their crate. Even now, Jenny given the choice of being left in the backyard (which you'd think she would prefer) she comes in the house and goes to her crate. We call it kennel, just say the word kennel and she goes right to it. Often I find her laying in there, with her front paws sticking out during the day. It is her safe place.

Hello Cruise Buddies ~ You guys aren't at 250 pages yet...sheesh who hasn't been chatting up a storm...:)

Sorry for not checking in sooner. Was kind of hectic the past few days. We got back late late Sunday evening from visiting Chas at Walter Reed. We were originally supposed to get back around 830ish CT Sunday evening but due to delays in Charlotte NC we didn't get back till almost 1000CT. AND to top it off my husband misplaced (officially lost now) both our keys (FOB) to our car. After searching our luggage and calling my father (who was back at Walter Reed to check the room as we stayed in the same room when he was gone) we couldn't find it. Had to have a friend drive 30 minutes to bring us our valet key. Now on Friday we have to go into dealer to get replaced and its "ONLY" $340.00. I am so livid about that (as he is to as we hate wasting money).

Bottom line ~ great trip and got to spend alot of time with Chas (he even stood up on his leg to take a picture with me ~ instead of sitting down ~ that's a big thing to him as he is 6'2" and loved being the tall guy). He should go outpatient in the next week to the Mologne House (which is there on Walter Reed base). He will then live there for the next 8-12 months as he goes through rehabilitation and fitted with his prostethic.

Well my grandfather passed away yesterday. He was 90 years old. My grandmother (his wife) passed away last year at 87. He was doing well until about April this year when they found hardened arteries in the heart. The doctor said they couldn't do surgery as it would be to risky. He suggested to the family to take him home and let him live out his life.

So from April till this past couple of weeks he went home and lived, unassisted. Right after my brother got injured in Iraq he went downhill for a week ~ didn't want to see a doctor or leave the house (he could still drive perfectly fine). He finally gave in mid-september and went to doctor, got better and came home. Then this past few days he had to go back to the hospital as he was getting worse again. The doctor didn't give him more than a few days. He passed away peacefully.

Yes it is sad but at the same time my grandparents lived long wonderful lives. They were married for almost 70 years and had 4 children, 6 grand children and 8 great grandchildren (and I'm sure more to come). I feel very lucky to have known them for such a longer period of my life and that my children got to have a chance to meet them. Sydney remembers my grandmother very well and she got to see grandpa several times a year ~ Sean well he was the last great grand child my grandmother got to hold before her passing ~ while he won't remember either of them I'm glad they got to meet him.

The funeral is Friday (no visitation). Luckily my brother actually got a 72 hour pass from the hospital and dad is bringing him home tomorrow morning. I hope the flight goes well for him and he doesn't have to much discomfort. I think he is happy to come home for even a short visit but obviously would rather do it under better circumstances.

Sorry for the book ~ Shannon always says I talk alot and I tend to give more information than needed....:)

I will be home the next day and will try and get all the excursion updates done then since I didn't take my pc with me to Walter Reed. I also plan on catching up on the posts. I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the beautiful fall weather (one of my favorite times of the year).

Marla - are you flying out of Columbus? If so, on 12/26 or 27? We are leaving on the 26th, from Columbus to Atlanta. Also on the 3rd of January, coming home via Atlanta. Could we be on the same flights?

Went and sat through the last marching band practice - and about froze to death

No flying in and out of Dayton - and scored direct flights both ways with AirTran

Thanks Marla & Aisling for your thoughts and words. Lately I feel like I've been the "bearer" of sad news. BUT, we've got the vacation at the end of the year and the cruise to look forward to.

I am updating the website now ~ there are a few updates to the fish extender that I got in an email earlier this evening. Look for the changes across the board.

thanks - forgot to mention - that is their pre game show for all home games

I was 'stuck' in my chair all day yesterday booking 2010 cruises

Now that I have a moment - here are our excursions to be added to the website

Key West - GPS Walking Tour

Grand Cayman - Grand Cayman Island Tour

Cozumel - Tulum Ruins

Castaway Cay - Parasailing and I have rented a float for us

all above for both of us

yes - I am going to try to parasail - Kara can't wait to video tape that

Updated ~ You guys book these all through Disney?

All updates out there on the website. Let me know if any changes, etc.

Just got caught up reading through all the posts the past week. Wow ~ lots have happened. I am glad to see all the pics and news.

Cute dog Aisling ~ I love little puppies.

Congrats to Wilson ~ Nskjerven ~ That looks so cool.

Marla ~ I love the pics of Kara in her uniform. She looks so beautiful in her pictures.

Kelly ~ So glad to hear things have been going well with the pregnancy. I know it sucks to have the all day "morning" sickness but its generally a good sign as it tends to mean a strong pregnancy (that's what the doctors all told me probably to make me feel better LOL). Don't feel bad about talking to the doctor about getting something to help take the edge off with the morning sickness. I was hospitalized for my first pregnancy due to the severity of morning sickness (I was diagnosed with the hypermesis gravidarum with both kids). I thought it was "normal" until the doctor talked to me and put me on some stuff to help take the edge off ~ was still sicker than a dog for awhile but in the end was all worth it. (And apparently a side effect of having a child is forgetting how the morning sickness sucked as I ended up with Sean ~ LOL).

Hey everyone,

Was out in the field working the past 2 days... no access to the internet.

The morning sickness is starting to get better, but today was a bit of a set back.. its not NONstop now.. so that is good.

Anjelica, sorry to hear about your grandfather. Great news on Chas... Sounds like his selfesteem is rising.

Katherine is after all the women in my family. My mom's name is Katherine (Kathy), her mom is Katherine (Kay), her mom is Katherine (Kitty), her mother was Katherine (but do not know that nickname.. ). Picked Ava because it sounded pretty and seems to work..

We picked together.. but I do not know that I could have let Brian soley pick, as he would have named a girl EXACTLY after his mom and a boy EXACTLY after his dad. That wouldnt have worked for me. lol.

We tell his family Nov 8th when we see them. Felt it was better to be said in person rather than over the phone. Seemed to impersonable.

Hi All! OMG Anjelica - i am SOOOO sorry to hear about your Grandfather~but very glad to to hear of Chas' progress! Pls post the photo if/when you can!

F/E's - i have 15 - can get more, but need to know SOON....

Kelly - i too never had morning sickness - more evening sickness..but wasn't as horrible as just 'being pregnant' was...it just wasn't a pretty sight for me....unlike my co-worker who looks SOOOO cute pregnant....

Another FB game tonite - hoping for that 6th win!!!:woohoo: and Marla - i can imagine your 'tears' for Sr. Day....Not sure when ours is....it's usually the last home game but i think that's our homecoming - i'm out of town, so really hope it's NOT that day as they do a similar thing with parents & seniors on the 50 yard line for photos.....if they do that for HC - i will be SOOOOO P/O'd.....uuuuuggghhh!!!!

that was not me :sad2: but it is me now :sad1: I lost so much weight at the front end of each pregnancy that I had this cute little baby belly, no butt, and skinny face (I miss my skinny face :sad2: I watched videos from when the kids were little the other night and saw how thin I looked. If only I could stop myself from eating and get some exercise, such a simple solution...

Hi Everyone -

Just wanted to stop by an say Hello :goodvibes . We have been planning this cruise for the last year and half and I can't believe it is finally almost here! We are cruising with my family (parents, sister & family and brother & family). We (me & my immediate family) are the only ones who have cruised before so we are so excited to share this experience with the rest of the family :cool1: . My mom is very apprehensive about cruising (she does not like to travel) and so far she has not backed out :thumbsup2 - but we will see what happens when it is time to board popcorn:: . We have never been on the cruise over NYE so this is a first for all of us!! Now if I could just figure out if Formal night is NYE...:rolleyes1

Hi Michele -- we are all trying to figure out if NYE is formal night -- I'm guessing it is, though. I haven't cruised on NYE either -- am really looking forward to it. Fingers crossed that your mother doesn't back out -- I'm sure she will love it if you can get her on board!

Finally home - man it was getting cold - it had just poured all day and stopped about an hour prior to kick off

I had cooked up a surprise for Kara, my one sil, hubby and 3 1/2 niece flew in from Dallas today and we were all sitting in the stands when the band marched on the field for pregame

We started waving and we could see Kara's eyes getting bigger and bigger - as they were marching off the field she was laughing and pointing - we were just standing there yelling SURPRISE

We walked down 50 yd line and after we were lined up facing the home stands got my niece and she stayed on the field with Kara and I until end of 1/2 time. I was good and didn't cry - but I did get laughing - they called Maria instead of Marla

Welcome onboard msec

I agree ~ lets go with 15 FE's (total of 16 rooms signed up). We are starting to come down to the wire and with Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up we all have a ton of work coming up that doesn't include the cruise. Then the cruise itself we all need to start getting ready for.

So 15 Fish Extender Gifts is what you should plan for.

I bet we know at least a couple of weeks pre-cruise what night formal will be on. Additionally, we will be able to get a list of the movies that will be shown on the cruise at that time as well.

She sent me a note I think a couple weeks ago that she was no longer going to be doing it but instead do the ATV tour with Jesse & Cory.

If anyone hasn't seen we still have quite a few openings for the Grand Cayman Private excursion to stingray city, rum point beach, etc.

Anjelica, Did Nan say she any of her group was interested in the boating excursion at GC?

Aisling, I won a Rat at the Pirate Auction at the Renaissance Faire last weekend, wanted to keep her just for you but they wouldn't let me have both prizes - I eventually traded her in for the real prize which was a decorative sword.

That's one mean-looking rat!

Rus, unfortunately I had to cancel the cooking class since Mel bailed...Jesse and Cory need an adult with them on Cozumel, and they wouldn't do the cooking, so I ended up booking an ATV tour with them.

Marla, Kara looks sooo happy with her little cousin.
I think I saw a pic of you a few years ago...did you have one in your avatar of you on a rollercoaster?

Nan, I got your message. Chad still hasn't heard.:confused3 But he tells me this is routine. In the meantime, he's finishing up to have his Masters by January.

I've been so busy and tired. I went to a wedding with a 7 hour reception last night (TONS of fun), and the night before I went to a crazy Halloween party. Brian my puppy is doing well, and sleeping for longer periods thru the night, which is a big help. I love him so much.

Jesse and his friends are at the park ice rink doing a community service clean-up. The city is hoping for a Thanksgiving opening, so we need some cold weather for them to get the ice in there. I was just about to pick them up now, but he called to say they would just take the subway home. So I can relax with my Brian.:goodvibes

Tonight I'm going to a basketball game, so I need to nap for a while!

Band scored a 1 or superior ranking at the OEMA (Ohio Educational Music Association) competition tonight

Tomorrow the band will be playing for McCain who is having a rally here in town (actually at our new sports arena at the high school) - we got our list of instructions tonight

band members have to be at band room by 7:30 a.m., they can get their instrument over at the arena - no cases what so ever - so the S service detail and the bomb and gun and drug sniffing dogs can examine them once you are in the building you will not be allowed to leave - no exceptions - and someone will be feeding the band members - who - we have no clue

and oh yah - they have to dress nicely and appriopriately so I am doing a load :laundy:

cool pictures - haven't seen much turning of the colors here - though with the winds from Ike - some areas don't have many trees left

Marla, I just turned on the news and McCain is on. I'm looking for Kara! What an experience for her.

I ran to the gym while Brian was asleep in his crate, and he's still sleeping. I've been taking him everywhere in the sling, but he can't go to the gym with me.:sad1: The vet said he still isn't allowed to walk outside...too many chances of picking something up from other dogs/stray cats. When he gets his last shots next month, we'll be regulars at the dog park.

He's already knows the words sit, peepee, and byebye for going out.

Grim, I'm waiting for the prickly pear photos. I remember "prickly pear" from The Jungle Book, Baloo singing The Bare Necessities with that in it.

Tig, Chad said you're fostering a 9 year old. I said WHAT??????????????????? But then I realized it was a poochie.:rotfl:

They didn't show any part of the band - darn it all

Kara heard Mike Turner, Joe Kemp, Mrs. McCain, John McCain and a couple of others

She said it was interesting, they had to have their instrument in the arena before 7:50 a.m. this morning so they could be examined, no instrument cases period.

Then the band had to file in early in order to pass security

they weren't allowing any backpacks, ipods, mp3 players etc, not even any homework/text books etc

She got wanded and sniffed by the dogs - at various times of the day - she ended up with the same dog each time, the last time, he whined at her and then started licking her hand

She said the scary part were the snipers on the roofs of the school/arena

Hi Gang,

Brenda and Marla, when Chad graduated high school and college, the caps/gowns were very reasonable, I'm thinking like $25. We ended up donating them to the schools. I hope the price hasn't gone up outrageously when Jesse graduates next year!

cap & gown pkg is probably around $40 - $50....it's adding the other stuff...announcements, name cards, thank you's, class key, etc. the boost the price up to 129...149 & 199 - i think those are the pkg prices

:rotfl2:

I have a couple ideas that the government could do to totally help our economy~I am not an economist by far, but I really feel these ideas could help~Aisling, run these by Chad and see what he thinks for me please...

First: Invest back into every neighborhood by offering small businesses their first two years tax free, say up to $250,000 cap on their net profit. Most new businesses don't profit til their third year if they even get past the first. Giving them one less (taxes can be a HUGE headache) headache to worry about. Si capiche? Bottom line, lotsa new businesses could stimulate the economy.

Second: All those people who financed houses at a larger than what its worth now amount should be given some kind of reprieve. The money being given to the banks should be used as a base to offer folks new mortgages based on the value their home is now, also based on their ability to pay the current mortgage amount and rate offered. Folks should only be offered an amount the borrower is ABLE to pay back.

For example: If a family has $100,000 in debt, a previously $500,000 house currently valued at $2 or $300,000 would qualify most folks to be able to re-finance and cover their debts without going into bankruptcy. My thinking is it would put money back into the economy by paying off their debts AND by eliminating debts people would have more leftover at the end of a paycheck and have more to spend which would also stimulate the economy.

The banks would now profit off the new valued mortgage since the government gave the banks the money to cover the old uncollectible debts. The $100,000 debt is not counting the old mortgage cause in my plan the old, valued to high mortgage, would be written off. The trade off is based on the homeowner's ability to sign for a new mortgage on the current value of the house at a more reasonable rate.

I just skimmed through the last few pages and it looks like everyone's been busy, busy!

If this time of year wasn't crazy enough already... we decided to throw a move into the mix.
It's just a short hop across town, but still a lot of work.
So if I'm not online much, you'll know why. And if you do catch me here too often, tell me to log off and pack some boxes! ;)

Brenda,
I'd love to make a quick Disney run on Monday and say hello. Maybe grab lunch? We could chat cruise and/or commiserate about senior nonsense. I hit that $55 send button more times than I want to think about this weekend, and my mind is mush from trying to help edit application and scholarship essays.

BTW, senior night for us is tomorrow. Our football team is undeafeated and was just ranked #1 in the county, so it should be quite the party! Except when I was helping get things organized I noticed there was a huge disparity in the length of the profiles (the kids submitted their own info) and DD's is so short, I think we're going to have to run across the field when she's presented. :rotfl:

Hi everyone!

Well, I think I've done too much "helping out" these past 2 weeks. I came down with a bad cold and have been laying on the couch since Sunday. Today was my first day out. I'm much better now.

Our cap and gown are free (or should I say included in the $75 graduation fee). We order on Friday. I'm not ordering announcements.

Senior night for us was fun even though it was pouring rain and windy. Some of the kids and the director were teary. That made me teary!

Jim, Kelly, and I are going to see "rain" tonight. It is a tribute to the Beatles. Kelly is absolutely obsessed with the Beatles!!

OK my .02 cents. There are those of us that DIDN'T over buy on a house when we could not afford it and why aren't we getting any bailout benefit. The last 2 years have sucked for us being self employed and we have drained our saving and used our credit, why can't we have a bailout. People that over spent on a house that they couldn't afford shouldn't be my tax problem in years to come (and for sure my friend the middle class will pay for this bailout). Sorry folks, IMHO, foreclosure is a lesson that some people learn to not make stupid over buying choices in the future. I'm not feeling sorry for people that over bought these days :sad2:

At this point I am more worried about the future and our economy than how stupid people are. The personal business thing IMO should benefit people like you and Paul. Maybe edit it to say for the next two years, notsomuch for "your" first two years, that small independant business should get a serious tax break. Small business owners really do run the heart of our economy.

Folks who overmortgaged, again IMHO, are half at fault and the banks are the other half. We have friends who have complained that when they went for a mortgage (maybe two years ago) and the banks tried to "give" them waaaaay too much money. Our friend wanted to mortgage 150,000 and the bank was like - we'll give you $500,000 and you can use it any way you want. He took the 150. He was smart. Tons of other people took the 500 and are now broke or bankrupt. The banks are getting the money anyway, why not use it to make good on what is half their fault.

We don't have the credit mess you guys do. Our banks are a little tighter with their lending. We can't get 100% property value mortgages and they have recently done away with 40 year terms.

I feel for the mortgage situation people.
But, when we applied for our $200,000 mortage 10 years ago, even then the bank tried to get us to only put down 10% with a low 2 year locked in subprime mortgage payment, to balloon after that. We said no, and stuck to it. We put down 30%, and have a comfortable $1600 monthly mortage on a house that's now worth $450,000.

My neighbor, who bought last year and couldn't afford the going $400,000s got one of those low interest, low down payment loans, and now the bank is calling in the prime payments. He is desperate. He may lose his house, but it was his choice.

I taught my kids DONT BUY IT IF YOU CANT AFFORD IT, and I'm a good example of how to let credit cards can get maxed, so I don't want them to be like me. But I'm not $400,000 in debt as my neighbors are with their house. It's very sad.

Tig, you have a good idea, and I'll pass it on to Chad, but it is discouraging for those who have sacrificed and bought what they could afford.

I mentioned on another post that Mel's company is sweating an Obama administration, because they make over $2.5 million a year with 19 employees, all with excellent salaries and benefits. This man worked himself to the bone to make this business succeed, and is rewarding his workers accordingly. Now he may be taxed because of his company's gross income. The rich to give to the needy. Well, Mel's salary may go down, we may lose benefits, and/ot some employees may have to be laid off. NOT a good thing when these people work hard, even on weekends, to make this small business a success.

Obama made a comment today "Next John McCain will criticize me for sharing my toys in kindergarten." There's no sharing going on. It's taking away from some to give to others. What lesson is this to our kids? I tell them if you want to be wealthy, make your own wealth. Don't depend on the govt to hand it to you at the expense of others. There is oppportunity for everyone here in America. It may involve relocating, schooling, networking, working your way up, taking two jobs, going into another field, mopping floors for a while, whatever, but its there.

I say this because I'm afraid that what most of my friends/family have worked so hard for will be unfairly taxed. These aren't millionnaires, but they're over the $250,000 cutoff, so they will be hurt. This isn't all profit, it's payroll and business-running expenses.

Even my auto mechanic wh0se business makes $300,000 a year says he'll either have to let one employee go, or move to a smaller home. Why should he have to move to a smaller home when he worked 7 days a week to afford the large one he has?

I'm worried, and I'll re-read your idea, Tig, because I'm hoping to see some brightness in our personal financial futures. Thank you sincerely for posting your ideas.

Stupid is as stupid does (so says Forest Gump)

You can't fix money problems for people by throwing money at them (so say Dr. Phil)

Sorry I'm not willing to cut the slack for those that claim they were mislead from the banks. The benefit of homeownership also had risks. You can't have it both ways, otherwise the whole real estate concept as investment wouldn't work, would it?

Small business owners that employee people do help the economy, Paul and I are self-employed and we won't ever grow what we do to include employees because it is WAY to much headache to be worth the gain. I'm fine paying my taxes, not looking for a break, just not looking to bail out those that are stupid. That just makes me mad

tiggerwannabe
10-29-2008, 09:57 PM
Again IMHO, I don't think the government should be bailing anyone out. What I really don't want to see is the government give money to already bankrupt institutions and have it pissed away cause nobody knew what to do with it. I don't agree with Obama taxing the "rich" to take care of the masses and I don't agree with McCain taxing medical benefits as part of a person's income.

I do know for a fact that I am fighting 500,000 people for 19,000 jobs.

Outsourcing jobs to other countries and the cost of the war is killing our economy. Until the US amends these situations, the money that could be stimulating our economy is gonna continue to be pissed away in the wind~

I can agree that the govt should stop the bail outs.

I'm trying to get my head around the number for the jobs.

Are you saying there are 500,000 people trying to get 19,000 jobs? Each of those jobs have qualifications and you either meet them or you don't so I do get that a job is hard to find but how can 500K people be qualified for 19K jobs? Help me understand this as I'm lost. I know at another time of high unemployment (early 90's) I was trying against 2000 applicants for 1 position, is this more what you are talking about? By the way I was a #2 person, I didn't get that job way back then and I ended up having to take a crappy job with a big commute for 1 1/2 years at a cut in pay to remain employed and sadly to pay that mortgage that I couldn't afford, but never defaulted on. (a bit bitter ::yes::

I won't talk war feelings here, other than to say that I want our troops to be safe and there is a dollar cost to that.

As to overseas jobs, ha. The last 4 software companies that I've had as clients out sourced overseas. I don't agree with overseas outsourcing either, but because of it I and a staff of execs and sales and marketing were employed. I'd rather work for domestic software companies but I needed to work, so what ya gonna do?:confused3 :sad2:

I see you folks have started discussing politics ~ One of my favorite topics. However I usually try not to talk politics with most of my friends (as about 50% are die hard liberals and I'm a die hard conservative).

I do feel Obama is a socialist/marxist. He seems to steer clear of those titles although many of his ideas are right in line with those ideaologies. He's been pretty clear cut on his idea of sharing the wealth, which I can totally respect ~ the fact that he is upfront and honest about that. I don't agree with those ideas at all but he has made it very clear where he stands.

I'm a conservative more so on the fiscal side of things. I don't believe in some of the left leaning economic policies. I am also a conservative because I'm not a big government kind of gal. I don't believe necessarily the government should always be around to take care of me and my family.

I think what it boils down to is two words ~ Personal Responsibility ~ and the lack there of in this society. 100 years ago it really was every man/family for themselves. I believe that in our more civilized society today we have the duty to take care of those who truly cannot take care of themselves. But what we have created is a society where many of those that have the physical and mental stability to take care of themselves do not and "rely" on government to think for them and take care of them.

I think this election really boils down to two ways of thinking in terms of the economy/government. I think Obama's view on socialism and how big government can "spread the wealth" is, well to be honest, obnoxious. This country was founded on entrepreneurial and small business and its one of the reason's this country thrives as it does today. Taxing small businesses more is a GREAT way to stifle the economy and tone down any entrepreneurial dreams many may have. If we want an example of "great" working socialism lets look to some of our European brothers and sisters. France alone has a 25% unemployment rate.

Socialism works in a society of 50 people not 300 million people. Taxing the guy who worked his a$$ off to get where he is today is not really the answer. What incentive would the person who is working harder to become something that may pay better than say other professions have if he has to give more of his money away to those who picked say another profession? Do we really want our doctors to be taxed at a rate where they make less and less and therefore less incentive to be one?

Big government is also a pet peeve of mine. For example ~ government run healthcare ~ guess what, we already have two forms of that now. VA and Medicaid and folks they both suck for differing reasons. The VA treats some of these veterans like second class citizens (been there ~ stepmom was in the VA system when she was dying of breast cancer). Every day its a fight for those trying to get their benefits under the VA system. Then you have medicaid which is the polar opposite of the VA system. Some of these people have wayyyyyy to much coverage.

Example ~ (yes true story) ~ but 16 year old is pregnant and is on medicaid (through her mom who is also on medicaid). Because she is 16 she is considered "high-risk" (which baffles me as not sure how 16 year old because she is 16 is high risk) gets 4 ultrasounds before the 12th week. Most normal insurances and doctors, even if high risk, don't order that many ultrasounds before the 12 weeks.

Here in the state of Illinois ~ in 2007 ~ 1 out of every 2 births was paid for by medicaid. Yes that is right ~ 50% of babies born in the state of Illinois are born into medicaid (and pregnancy/delivery was paid for by medicaid). That's a serious issue in itself. I can see 10% or so because I understand people make mistakes but come on 50%??? BTW - Obama is our state senator and has done so much for our state (sorry for the sarcasm).

I too think Obama is a socialist.. and really think that he could have spent his $3m better than doing an infomerical on himself last night. I would have rathered the regular programming that SHOULD have been on. I boycotted his waste.

Further.. no one is talking about his broken promise to stay w/the polital funding.. he got tons of donations, so instead of keeping w/his promise to stay w/in the funds that both candidates had, he chose to go w/the endless stream of money, and he repaid those people by pissing away $3m last night.

I am just tired of the media hype on him and how they bury the stories that would outrage us all.. like that radical's party he went to, and his assoc w/a known terrorist (be it from decades ago.. once a terrorist, always a terrorist), his running mates gaffs (god help Palin if she makes one though) (ie.. that FDR went on TV to assure americans we would come out of the great depression... ummm.. that was HOOVER and it was on the RADIO as TV was not yet invented!!! HELLO!!, oh.. and that 3 letter word.. JOBS.. count much?!) Yet they would rather bash Palin for her clothes.. I am sure if she was wearing something off the rack from JC Penny's they would have a comment about that too.

I am worried about the economy as well as what will happen next Tues night.

Probably the safest bet ~ I get sucked into to easily. Although I don't go around wearing political t-shirts at a childs birthday party...hehehehehehe

The one "good" thing about this election and so much media attention, per my brother, is that it has taken the focus off of Iraq in terms of media being on the ground, etc. He said that the military doesn't want the media around that much because they, the military, get crucified for some of the most mundane things. For example, the military in Iraq is not allowed to go into the Mosque's unless fired upon, etc. ~ the bad guys know this ~ so they have huge caches of weapons hidden in these mosque's. If the media catches you going into one it would get splashed on all the news outlets, etc. even though they would find tons of caches. 5 guys from the 1-8th, Chas's Battalion, died when they were ambushed and fired upon from a Mosque back in January. It was an all out street fight for several hours because our guys didn't want to leave the bodies (they could have cut and run but they don't leave any soldier behind even when they have passed on). They finally were able to storm the Mosque and weapons upon weapons found ~ Ridiculous.

So I guess there is "one" good thing coming from the election and all the media attention. Hopefully less of our kids dying and getting hurt over there.

Are you guys making some fancy FE gifts? How much per FE are we all spending? I just want to get a ball figure to make sure I haven't gotten over board or not enough.

We did not put a price amount on the gifts. I guess keep it reasonable.. Not sure what that means to others.. how about FE people throw out there what they think they want to spend... and we can come up w/an average. I am sure none of us are Rockerfellas, nor claiming to be ;)

Great points Ladies!

I am open to anyone's opinion. The only person in the world I have ever had a heated politico debate with was my husband-John and I have a pact not to discuss politics with each other ever again. seriously.

Hubby and I watched the Phillies win from my sister's house last night. Laurie (my sister) and I have built in entertainment because our guys are so animated when watching their sports. Tommy (DBIL) wouldn't leave the kitchen cause that's where he was when the game started and he thought it'd be bad luck if he moved. He was screamin and bouncing and hugging everybody when they won! My sister had a houseful too. Her three plus two friends a girlfriend and my daughter were all there with John, Tommy, Laurie and me.

My Mom is retired Military...

I lived in that world all my life. I've seen every war movie ever made (Mom even read war books.) We've used governement medical services. We lived on military rules. I understand what living a military life means. I completely, wholeheartedly, 100% support our military - It's the people that make up the rules (i.e., Our Politicians - which unfortunately, most of which who serve, have never "served") that cause the issues, that pi$$ me off, about the war.

You are a military brat as well ~ cool. My dad was Navy 20 years and we got to live near a beach most of the time (he was in the flight area and didnt have to do much with long stays on boats). It was nice in one regards to see the world but at the same time it kind of sucked to move every 3 years.

Military medical care sucks compared to what it was 20 years ago. I was still a dependent when my dad retired from the Navy and since we live next to Scott AFB we used the medical for the dependents. All the good doctors who were close to retiring left the field and started their own practice ~ which I have been going to for 10 years now. When I was in college and had to use the base for prescriptions or doctor appointments you would have to wait weeks to get in to see the doctor for things such as sinus infections and strep throat (things where you needed antibiotic prescriptions asap). Then when they started that whole Tricare crap and the military veterans who were promised free healthcare at retirement had to start paying ~ sheesh just down the tubes.

Now on the flip side and probably due to all the controversy I have found that Walter Reed has been, so far, exceptional in the wounded warrior program. That is the program for all Iraqi and Afghan US soldiers who are wounded while in those countries. I can't imagine what it would have been like right after soldiers started to come home and that program wasn't in place a few years ago.

It really gave me hope to see the Vietnam Veterans, who were amputees from that war, working intimately on the program. These men were pretty much tossed out on their a$$ right after they were sewed up. To be so disregarded by the military/politicians to come back and work on this program tells me alot about this program ~ that its worth everything.

I hope no one gets overly offended. I can appreciate everyone's opinions and views like I said some of my best friends are those 'wacky' I mean liberal types. I love them to death and wouldn't trade them for any conservative. I think liberals and conservatives or middle of the road ~ I think most of us folks want the same things. It's those on the both extreme's that make it difficult.

At the end of the day I'm still glad to be cruising with Disney and chatting up with you DIS'ers (who, btw, I have found to be some of the nicest most helpful people (must be liberals-lol) I have ever met ~ Except some of those Community Board people).

I'm taking Owen out for treats, we go with his friend and his friend's Dad. Tons of fun.

I'm staying home to pass out candy. Kelly and Brian are going to a party for all the band members at someone's house. Actually, I think they plan on going out to trick or treat while they are there.

Our trick or treat is from 6-8. Most come in the first hour as they are mostly little ones. I only get about 25 in this neighborhood. In my old neighborhood, we had about 80 kids.

What time is everyone planning on getting to the terminal? I want to be there around 10:30.

Kelly, are you going to be the first one all packed? How have you been feeling?

Aisling, how's the puppy?

Don't know what time we will get to port - since we are arriving DCL via AKL - no driving for me

Tomorrow ~ Going to go up to Sydney's school for the parade. Then tomorrow evening will be going over to best friends house and taking the kids out trick or treating after we eat dinner there. We've been doing this for a few years now (there is 4 of us ladies that are hard to seperate and 3 of us have kids that are the same age so it works out).

Not sure which time we will get to the port. I was contemplating making a food/diaper stop before the port. We are driving ourselves and have a breakfast at Chef Mickey's at 730. Figure about an hour there and than a hour and a half to port (including a 20 minute grocery stop) we should be there by 1000. What time does the port open (i.e. when can I drive up to the front to drop kids and luggage off then park)?

We're planning to be at the port at 10:30.

Judy, my puppy Brian is doing very well, thank you for asking. The only issue is his nipping when he plays. He doesn't nip Mel or Chad, because they made it clear to him that it's a no no, but Jesse and I have yet to be stern enough to make him stop nipping us. He's only 2 months old, so he's teething, so I bought him a bunch of teething toys to keep him busy on those instead of our fingers. Otherwise, he's an absolute joy.

I'm ready for the hoardes of kids that will be trick or treating later on, and then we're going to another halloween party.

We get very few kids in my neighborhood...

John and I will hang out for a while and hand out candy to the half dozen or so that show up. Our friend's band is playing at the Moose so we'll probably pop our heads in there for an hour. I was gonna go to the Phillies parade today but decided I don't feel like fighting 2,000,000 people for a view of the team~

I keeping thinking that I'll not have another dog since the last few years with our dogs have been so hard, but I know myself too well, I will have another when our current one goes. I also think I want a little one this time. I'm over the big dog phase in my life. I showed Paul the pics and he said "what a cute puppy" he is so against another dog, so I'm totally suprised he said Brian was cute.

I agree, bring him on the ship, we can stow him away ::yes::

Hope your solo Dland day is nice :flower3:

I'll expect to hear from or to Rus sometime in the future...BUT...Wilson won his race AGAIN this weekend and that has opened the door for us to maybe want to go to another race on Thanksgiving weekend, so I might have to bail (sorry :flower3: ) unsure at this point, but just keeping you in the loop of what is going on in our minds.

SO...HE WON!!!! This is the 3rd IKF race in a row that he has won. The end of the season has just totally come together for him. It was a wonderful day, full of drama :cool2: He did terible in the heat race 5th of 5 and then in the main the leader hit his choke so he fell out and then Wilson just picked off the rest of the pack one at a time. The last leader at the 2nd to last corner on the last lap :scared1: It was so thrilling to see Wilson take the lead from the #1 driver in the series again :woohoo: Because of his great finish and because of how the #2 overall driver finished (last) Wilson was able to move from 3rd overall to 2nd overall for the season. It's been a great time to savor and enjoy all his (& Paul's) hard work. I'm a very proud mama this week :lovestruc Next weekend he has his last club race and it is a pressure filled event. Based on a bad finish last month and a bad situtation (where the kid above him was DQed but they still gave him his points) Wilson is in a place where he has to keep a driver within 20 points (2 or 3 places) of him in order to keep his 2nd place over all for club level. DRAMA until the very end...

GREAT pics!! What an upper for Chas to have the kids there!! Wow he really is tall!

Sydney is absolutely gorgeous...that pumpkin patch one of her is stunning.
How cute, Shannon dressed up, too! The kids are adorable! Love the white faced skeleton! I hope little Sean didn't scare himself! Wonderful family, wonderful times.

I\Yeah Wilson.. congrats.. can not wait to meet the real life speed racer!!

Thanks Kelly, rest now when they get here you are going non stop!

Nan, tell Wilson he has nerves of steel!!!

B:

So I guess I have been replaced as the good luck charm since he won without me being there. I was thinking about going to the Village Bistro at Santana Row on Friday 11/28/08. Chel and I hope you and Paul can make it. Let us know.:thumbsup2

No you are not replaced, you just started the good luck or continued it I should say..he won the last 3 IKF races in a row. Of course you are more than welcome to join us in Dixon next Sunday and be a good luck charm :thumbsup2 It really was so nice of you to come and give him and us your cheering and support

Hey did the tape turn out good? I'm hoping for a copy to magically appear on youtube or in my mailbox any day now :rolleyes1 Thanks so much for helping with that disc, Paul was able to dup it for the mom that couldn't get it locked or whatever it was called you did to it.

Paul & I didn't want to horn in on your dinner, but wanted to offer a pre-dinner drink(s) and hor'dourves at our place. Let me know if that is ok with you and what time is your preference we're open to whatever works for you.

Did everyone vote yet?

I went during my lunch break (I work close to home) so that I wouldnt have to wait in a forever line.

Oh.. and Artie, was that tax comment directed at me and me alone? I do not feel your tax is constitutional, and shall refuse to pay it.. so that I can have more money to spend on FABULOUS CRUISE!!  :cheer2: :cheer2:

Got Kara's new retainers ordered - he was giving her a hard time since she didn't come in earlier to replace them - she said I want new braces instead of retainers - I said - well then dearly you are going to be paying for them - after paying for both her's and mine over the last few years - can't afford another round of braces

Stopped and voted after returning her back to school - only had to wait like 2 minutes

Paul and I voted absentee last night, I dropped them off this morning, after a mammogram (yup 2 good things in one day ;) no line at voting, and sadly the people were not very friendly, I don't even think they said hello, just a boss lady barking orders to her lackey to make sure my envelope(s) were signed. Not the best voting experience. I tend to think it's a perfect place for those to be nice and neighborly to each other, but oh well, not to me today. for the record I did say hello and thank you ::yes::

I got 'sniffed' at today when I walked in - I didn't stop right at the end of the table to check in - I was giving the person behind me room to enter while I dug my dl out of my wallet

of course the same group of women 'run' the place every year

I finally got out to vote. It was quick, no lines, but when I was leaving, the after work crowd was starting to come in.

I cooked a lasagna and bought a cake to celebrate our candidate's loss tonight!:sad1:

I'm going to be up late tonight watching until the news goes off. We're news freaks in this house, it's just about the only thing I watch on tv. So I'll snuggle up with my Brian and wait for the speeches later on.

I told Paul about Chad's vote (saw ya on the CB) and you must share that Paul's vote for Perot is the one argument that we still have today. I say ya don't throw away a vote. YOU NEVER KNOW!!! ok, maybe we in CA and you in NY know, but you know what I mean

Ummm.. I was waiting in a line to check out of the voting, after you fill out the ballot, and there was a woman in front of me.. The lady behind the table yelled STREET? I deferred to the woman in front of me, the lady behind the desk yelled STREET? again, I said, I am sorry she was next, to which the old hag behind the desk yelled at me that she was in a different line. (hard to tell when they are ON TOP OF EACH OTHER) so I YELLED my street name at her. I was pissed. Could be the hormones.. (also, there was only 1 person behind me. This place was DEAD when I was in there.. so its not like there was the stress of getting everyone moving)..

I found that to be unpleasant.

I am sad that McCain lost.
