My Dr. just pescribed the South Beach Diet for me. I have insulin resistance and most likely metabolic syndrome at the ripe old age of 42. So for my health I have to do something.

I have been doing it for a few days and feel crummy. Totally craving carbs. I have lost five lbs and that makes me happy.

Anyone with positive experience with this? Will I ever fell better?

I stared a program that while it is not the SB diet, it is low fat, low carb, high protein.

My Dr explained about "hitting a wall". After a couple of weeks, your body is switching over from burning carbs to burning your stored fat. He explained some people feel hungry, they feel tired, and some may have headaches and feel nausous. Once he explained all that to me, it made sense. He said to drink LOTS of water and increase my activity. Pee out the ketones.

I do have to say, I don't crave carbs at all anymore. This is HUGE for me. I was a carb-oholic. I am in my 3rd week. I do love the multi grain bread that I eat. It has 6g of fiber in one slice. It is very heavy, so it fills me up.

Hang in there! Your body is adjusting. Get through one day at a time, and before you know it, you won't even WANT any carbs!

I really don't have anything I can relate as to how it feels in the beginning. It has been quite a while ago I went through the low carb beginnings.

PD and WISHing you can get through this so you begin to feel better.

You WILL do this. Make it happen! You are in control!

Feeling lousy kicks in around days 3, 4, and 5...then it gets better. You just have to gut-out those few days of feeling awful. Really, it isn't that bad and it does go away quickly. Hang in there!

Thank you. I went for a glucose tolerence test yesterday and felt like total crap (nauseous, headachy, etc.) after drinking that sugar! I am hoping that my low carbing won't throw off that test. I have read conflicting opinions. I am back to minimal carbs today and actually feel better.

Thank you for the encouraging words!

6 lbs down and I have 44 more lbs to go!

Hey eeyore65 - I think we have some things in common. I haven't tried SB yet, but I am starting a program on Monday that is VERY similar to SB. I'm also 42 and will be trying to lose 50 pounds. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!

Good luck to you and keep us posted on your progress!
