I was wondering where you buy your US dollars. I've always used the Post Office in the past as they don't charge any commission, but I don't think their rates are the best. Thanks for any help.

Marks & Spencer have always been the best for us for high street currency & it is commission free.

Yes you can check online, we always use M&S for currency exchange too, they always tend to be slightly higher than any of the others:thumbsup2

Sorry to hijack your thread Pinky166 with a question of my own :flower3: .
---but what does the above mean-locked in for October?? We always tend to get our money a month or so before we go-i know that doesn't always work out a great exchange rate, compared to what i sometimes could get 6 months previously. We take an assortment of cash+travellers cheques(mainly T-C).x.

In reply to the original question-i usually tend to phone the Post Office and a few travel agents to see who's offering the best rate on that day.x.

when you order from crown you pay upfront for your currency and the amount of time before you need it determines the better rate, Hence paying now for an october trip will get you a rate above $2

It all boils down to whether you'll get more $$ for your ££ if you buy now at a known exchange rate, or if you'd do better by keeping the cash in a savings account - of course, you don't know what the rate will be when you eventually buy your $$s, so it involves a bit of crystal-ball gazing :confused3

... and, of course, if you have the spare cash available now! ;)

We always use www.No1currency.com - we have found them to be the best rates on the high street (albeit they dont have a great coverage UK wide) - On Saturday we got 1.974 $ to the £, when the Post Office were offering 1.93 $
We find it much simpler to take in UK cash and exchange it over the counter - its worth a look at the link to see if they are in your local area.......
just checked M&S and they are giving 1.935 whereas No 1 Currency are 1.950 - not too much of a difference but soon add up

I am thinking of getting $$$'s bit by bit when the rate is good! If I change it up then I know I won't spend it! :rotfl:
