I've been out cutting blackberry vines. UGH!! I would be a happy woman if I never heard the word blackberry again! They are a weed here in the northwest and take over everything.:headache: I have been cutting and raking around the pump house yesterday afternoon and this morning. DrHug needs to paint and replace the roof on the pump house, but he has to be able to get to it to do that. We spray them each fall and spring, but don't want to spray close to the well so those have to be cut out, raked into a pile and burned. They have horrible thorns. OUCH! I covered up with jeans, double long sleeves and thick gloves this time so I only have gotten stabbed a few times. :sad2:

Well, I'm out of here for the day. Have to tie up some loose ends around here and get ready to pick Tyler up, have dinner, then head to the Easter vigil at church this evening. Gonna try to swing by Target on the way to pick up Tyler to grab one last item I forgot that I wanted in his Easter basket (a book from a series he loves -- Treehouse series or something like that). But if I don't have time, that's OK too because I'll just add to his basket the goodies my folks brought yesterday. :thumbsup2 In addition to tons of candy, they brought sidewalk chalk and a can of silly string. :goodvibes OH! Have to stop at the store for carrots to leave for that crazy bunny! He'll get hungry hiding all those eggs outside!

Sounds like the Magic still has a little engine trouble according to a cruiser who arrived back today. They were late into CC and knew they would be 2 days earlier. Going a bit slower.

Edit to say another cruiser on the same cruise said the weather wasn't good so the slowed things down. Who knows really?

So, here are my impressions:

The Dealership

It was an incredibly laid back experience, completely different than all of my other experiences buying cars.

Our salesman Josh was helpful. It was more like shopping in the Apple Store than a car dealer.

I suppose that given there is a 1 year wait for a car, they can afford to be laid back.

That laid back approach has been one of Roger's key focuses as we've launched. From our very first meeting two years ago, he has repeatedly said that he wanted this to be a completely different experience.

That's also why the cars won't be sold for over sticker price. Given the demand, they could easily add several thousand dollars onto the price. But, we got all of our dealers to agree to hold to the sticker price.

Cargo Space

This had been the chief area of concern and a real deal breaker. Just how much shopping could we fit in.

I had brought with me a reusable Jewel shopping bag to test out the Smart's cargo space.

I was quite surprised by it. It was much roomier than we had thought it would be. I figured (shopping bag in hand) that we could fit 8 bags of groceries in the cargo space (one row on top of the other).

In terms of gardening supplies, we figured we could fit 3 to 4 bags of mulch stacked. Meaning either having things delivered or making multiple trips.

But, for the shopping we do 99.9% of the time, the cargo space was fine.

The other trick for cargo space is that, if you are alone, put the passenger seat down flat. It creates a flat shelf and you can stack a lot more there.

Conflict

I reserved the Smart Passion. Sukie thinks I should get the Cabriolet, which is a convertible. The convertible is fully automatic.

Aside from the added money for the Cabriolet, I really question how much sense a convertible makes for Chicago, where we could only drive with the top down from June to about the end of September.

I also feel uneasy about how well the top will age, plus the potential for mechanical things to go wrong.

In addition, because of the top, you lose about half of the access to the cargo space.

The space remains the same, but now only the lower half of the back folds down. In the hard top the window flips up (like a hatch) and the bottom folds down, providing full access to the cargo space.

I would strongly recommend going with the Passion in Chicago. The cabrio will be louder, and more maintenance headaches. With the panoramic roof in the Passion (Don't know if they pointed it out at the dealership), you get the beautiful sky above you, and, then just roll the windows down for the fresh air.

More Conflict

I sent in my Smart reservation a few weeks ago. Josh told me that the wait is about 1 year.

The dealer does have a waiting list for "orphans," cars ordered where the buyer changed their mind.

The downside is that choice is limited. You take the color as it is and the configuration as it is.

If we get a Cabriolet (the convertible) the wait could be as short a a month or so, longer for a Passion.

So, not sure whether to do this or not.

It can't hurt to put yourself on the list. Also, do not count on the 1-year wait. To put it bluntly, the dealers have no clue how long someone will have to wait to get their car, as they don't know how long the reservation list is for their location.

KPros and SPros just picked theirs up today. Adrienne got to go up to Universal City today to be with then when they picked it up. (I am working at our store today, so couldn't join her).

Tony,

Thank you so much for the feedback. Just the sort of information I was looking for.

Also good to know that the dealers don't really know how long the wait is going to be. I don't mind waiting. I would sort of like to get exactly the car I want.

I did call the dealer and left a message to find out the scoop with their orphan program. I know I would have to put down a $100 deposit, but I want to know what will happen if I don't want the orphan they have available. Can I still just wait for my reservation and get my custom configuration.

I'm very partial to the yellow. Not sure if I want the beige or red interior.

I know what you are talking about. I hate cutting the grass on the riding lawnmower and you go by them and ouch, they hurt. My kids could not understand why in the blazing hot sun I would wear jeans and long sleeves.

We use to pick blackberries in the summer time. I would get ate up with the no see ums. My husband never had a problem. He saw how bad they attacked me and said he would pick them from now on. Now times have changed and a sub division has move there and those days are gone. They sure made good black berry cobblers.

Checking quickly here while Tyler gets spiffed up for the Easter vigil. Our church is very casual, you can even wear jeans, but he wouldn't think of it. Aye! You found the treasure! You are indeed excellent pirates. Please join me on a 15-night cruise on the Disney Magic as we follow the path of pirates of the past through the Panama Canal! Ms. Symon, Ms. Brown, and Mr. Shermon have all given their approval for missed school. Be sure to be good and thank your Mommy and Daddy for this trip of a lifetime!
Love,
Your pal Mickey
And then I added our logo and a seashell/beach border. I think I might make it into a magnet. The people listed are their teachers and Vice-Principal. Can't wait!

That is so cool! Your kids are gonna jump for joy! I definately think you need to make it a magnet for your door!

Yes we have used one both times we have cruised with Brent. They only go about half of the bed(maybe a little more) but it worked, except Brent kept almost falling off the end of the bed! I didn't get much sleep! We have already made one for the end of the bed for this cruise.

Glad you all enjoyed the warm and sunny pics from Mexico, Thanks!:goodvibes

We went to Zihuatenejo, which is basically between Aca and PV. Zih is a small fishing village and not touristy at all. Around the corner is Ixtapa which is very touristy...high rises, Carlos & Charlie's type places etc. The resort we stayed at does not allow children, so not a great place for families...but if you are looking for something for families, I would do a search for rental homes. We looked at one down the road from us that had 3/4 bedrooms, 4 floors, pool, etc and was 800.00 per night for 8 people. There are several other places around there that are small and quaint like our Villas which might work as well. I understand that Carmen del Playa is a wonderful place as well, and our friends rented houses there a few years ago and had a wonderful time. Nan...if you want more info, PM or email me and I'll try and help out.

Thanks, we can talk on the ship. I will between now and then talk with our school friends to see if we can really get our dates on the calendar and make a plan. I've wanted to go for Thanksgiving, that sound fun. I also really want to go somewhere where someone has seen the place so we are assured it's good for families.

Since we have 2 rooms, would you all recommend 2 over the door shoe holders? We've never brought one before but it sounds like a great idea.

One dilemna we have right now is our 2 1/2 year old seems almost ready to move from his crib to a big boy bed. I'm hesitant to do it before the cruise as I'm afraid he will just keep getting up and coming into our cabin. Any advice? I think we'd have more space if we didn't have a crib in the boys room...we got very spoiled being in the Roy Suite on our last cruise. It was so great to have all that space. What we liked most about the suite was having full room service every morning and eating breakfast as a family on the big dining room table. We had them bring a high chair, and it worked great. Eggs, bacon, whatever we wanted. Sigh... I'm mourning my lost Cat. 1 again...

We've never had 2 cabins before though. On our DCL cruise before the last, we had cat. 4 (it was before our youngest was born). I've heard having two cabins is like having a suite without the concierge service.

Lisa, look at this as half full, instead of half empty. Remember you could have not come at all. With that change in perspective the 2 rooms will be great and like we've all talked about before the kids don't really get the difference between a cat 1 or a cat 9. As to the crib vs bed thing, do you think the little guy can turn to his older brother for comfort instead of you and DH? My sister and I are 11 years apart, when I was little I went to her first, then mom after that...Of course it might be different with brothers that sisters, but ya never know til you try it.

I think I do have a "before" pic because I remember taking a pic of Bobby looking at Tyler's room and I told Tyler he was afraid to go in there! :lmao: That's definitely one I never posted (I think) because I was embarrassed at the mess! Just unacceptable levels of clutter. Maybe tonight I'll post a before & after pic. It will be quite shocking.

Red Jacket oversized and vest, big tie, highwaisted black/ or dark brown pants, white big collared button up shirt, big floppy tie. Then brown or white bunny tail and ears. Then you need the big card for those scenes that he is with the queen.

If you go without the pants, a pair of sweats paints (white or brown), tapered at the bottom, and stuffing for the upper leg. To keep the stuffing in place line the sweats with the stuffing in between the layers.

Good luck on this, I have been the wardrobe mistress on several plays, favorite project rip off jeans for the Greased Lighting scene in Grease.

Maybe on a port day. :confused3 Or maybe a ship can run without all engines going like an airplane can, and they can shut one off and fix that, and the ship would probably be slower while they do that. :confused3

They are some colors on clearance there:

15" folder (small size) is $12.55 (colors: navy, berry)
18" folder (med size) is 14.35 (color: berry)

Don't forget that there are some discount codes available out there for Sierra Trading company. They can be up to 20% off the price above.

On the same note, if you have ordered certain Eagle Creek travel accessories and pack-it items after March 1, you may be eligible for a discount.

Here is the information:
http://www.eaglecreek.com/promotion/travel_outfitting.php

Here is the form:

Make sure that you read all the fine print. All the Eagle Creek items for the rebate have to be on the same reciept. I hope this rebate works, sounds too good to be true... to get that good of a price on the folders and then get a rebate on top of it?

I guess I should go to bed early tonight. Tyler heard the announcement at church tonight about the Easter breakfast before service. That kid can't walk away from pancakes! So he begged me to go! I told him I'd have to talk to his dad because we didn't set up a time for him to pick him up for Easter tomorrow, he just told me he'll call us when he wakes up. He usually wakes up at 7 or 8, so I had Tyler call him and leave him a message asking if he can go to church with me first and then have me drop him off at his dad's afterwards. Yup, bad mom, I made Tyler do the asking! ;)

HollyTyler
03-22-2008, 09:07 PM
But then again, I shouldn't go to bed yet because I just put another load of laundry in the washer, so I need to wait at least until I can put it in the dryer. Plus I want to wait until I find out my mom made it back driving home from North Carolina. Apparently she visited a friend there and was to be back home late tonight.

In the continuing saga of "if Kathy bought it last week, it must be on sale cheaper this week", we bring you the chapter regarding the titled article.

It is on sale this week at Sierra Trading Post for $59.95. If you are lucky enough to find a 20% off coupon, it brings the price down to $47.96. Colors available: green, gray, or orange.

I am returning the one I bought for $71 to Best Buy on Monday. I am sure that they are getting tired of me returning and price matching!

The only one I have is for 20% off if you spend $75. It is from a catalog they sent me. Key code: WRD37157. I assume that it will work for others.

I know that they have 10% off for new customers without putting in a code. I don't think that you can stack that with the 20%, but it would be a way of getting some off without spending all that.

I bought some of the Eagle Creek folders as they were only $10.04 for the small and $11.48 for the medium size with the discount. So I didn't have any trouble spending $75.

Bargains are my downfall!

We use to pick blackberries in the summer time. I would get ate up with the no see ums. My husband never had a problem. He saw how bad they attacked me and said he would pick them from now on. Now times have changed and a sub division has move there and those days are gone. They sure made good black berry cobblers.

Oh, we had wild blackberries growing along the fence right across the street from our house. The kids in the neighborhood would pick them, then see which mom was willing to make us a pie. It was a KIDS only pie, since we did all the 'work'. (like making the pie itself wasn't work, you know.):lmao:

are most guys going with just the black tux? I am debating on the black tux versus the two jacket set. I can see the white jacket getting little hand marks all over it on the way to dinner!DH is doing tux (along with the boys0

Love the letter but shouldn't it be from the Easter Bunny?
Yes, we thought about it but our 10yr old still believes and I think he wouldn't believe the bunny could actually book a cruise. Too complicated...and then it could be like "well we can get as many arcade cards as possible because the Easter bunny is paying!" So basically, first reason was I wanted to encourage my 10 year old to believe for just a little longer...second reason is we didn't want to set an expectation that the Easter bunny would give such big gifts. This is a once in a lifetime thing - and I wanted to the kids to know we were giving it to them. It will help explain why we aren't signing up for as many summer camps, etc.

That is so cool! Your kids are gonna jump for joy! I definately think you need to make it a magnet for your door!  Thanks! I will - and any DIS walking by will know it is our room!

So true...DH said that had we booked the suite, we wouldn't be going. We wouldn't have made the final payment and would have had to move it to another date (non-refundable deposit). It would have been too much. So I know it all works at for the best. Not sure if the little one would go into the other one's bed. That hasn't always worked out for us. In Tahoe this past Feb, our 7 year old got scared and went into the 5 year old's bed and we wake up to the 5 year old yelling "GET OUT OF MY BED! GET OUT OF MY BED!" Where is the love? :confused3 :rotfl:

I think we will just hold off and keep him in the crib. He has made no effort to get out at all, and no reason to rush it if we don't have to.

Well we had not set a night YET but a few people had said they would like to do it on the Shots around the Ship night. So that may end up being the date. Tipsy with a wig on, it might really to being my Britney moment (lets hope not) However to your other question the answer is yes I am really wearing a wig and already know a few of us have ordered wigs special for this. I have bought a few so I would have options however I have a pink one for Champagne girls night and a green one in Dis green and another one I bought because I thought it was cute :thumbsup2 Ok - I got it. I'll start to look for one and let you know if I do it!

We went to Texas Roadhouse. Chuck and I ordered Chili, it came lukewarm, it wouldn't even melt the cheese they put on top, I sent mine back. Then, after we were all done eating, we waited and waited for our server to come back. Finally we started walking out of the restaurant, and he hopped up from a booth he was sitting in with 3 other servers. He said he was on BREAK!!!!! ON BREAK, when he had tables to serve! HONESTLY!

Chuck didn't want to say anything, but I asked for the manager, but she was busy counting money in the back.....so I told him to tell her we weren't happy and wouldn't be coming back there.

No wonder the Ale House's parking lot is ALWAYS full!

Hi V :) I've had that yucky cold going around, but am fine. Been reading a few posts now and then, but too exhausted to keep up.I'm feeling much better now. So your malls are open today? Ours are all closed, just the odd drug store and variety open. This is good news for me! No work today  I'm going out for dinner with my dd and her dh to a Greek restaurant . the girls hunted the eggs in the yard and have probably eaten enough candy for an entire year. I really need to do some laundry but don't feel like it. No big dinner planned. Just doesn't feel like Easter here for some reason.

I bet the girls feel like it is Easter :) I miss the days of the Easter egg hunts, this is the first year there were no eggs hidden by the Easter bunny, as long as there was a "kid" in my house the Easter bunny came, didn't matter how big that kid was :lmao: They always rolled their eyes, but gradually the eggs would disappear;) Our eggs were never hidden in the yard though, between weather and wildlife, not a good idea, but sure sounds like fun. It doesn't seem like Easter here either, still too many snow banks around!

Besides cruisewear, I also need to buy a new piece of luggage...actually a large new piece of luggage. When my son flew out west in Nov I loaned him my large suitcase, they had planned on coming home for a visit before the cruise, but unfortunately that won't be happening. So, I need to replace it. I don't want to spend a fortune, but don't want it to fall apart after one or two trips either. Anyone have any brands they would recommend. My set is Swiss Army and I have had some issues with it, won't buy that brand again. Thanks!

To all my Western, West bound friends . . .

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARILYN!

HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!

Sophia got up today and got her basket, then hunted down all the eggs that the Easter bunny (Alex) hid for her!

I hope Amy made it safely!

Well, we have not heard from her yet. No news is good news I guess. When I travel, I call every step of the way to let Amy know what is going on - she is probably bushed and trying to relax after a long journey.

HAPPY EASTER BIRTHDAYS:flower3: to everyone!

Has everyone already seen this?

EASTER

Easter is always the 1st Sunday after the 1st full moon after the Spring Equinox (which is March 20). This dating of Easter is based on the lunar calendar that Hebrew people used to identify Passover, which is why it moves around on our Roman calendar.

Based on the above, Easter can actually be one day earlier (March 22) but that is pretty rare.

Here's the interesting info. This year is the earliest Easter any of us will ever see the rest of our lives! And only the most elderly of our population have ever seen it this early (95 years old or above!). And none of us have ever, or will ever, see it a day earlier! Here's the facts:

1) The next time Easter will be this early (March 23) will be the year 2228 (220 years from now). The last time it was this early was 1913 (so if you're 95 or older, you are the only ones that were around for that!).

2) The next time it will be a day earlier, March 22, will be in the year 2285 (277 years from now). The last time it was on March 22 was 1818. So, no one alive today has or will ever see it any earlier than this year!

My DH has been using Berghaus luggage for years. It appears to be indestructible.

I'm a recent convert to Eagle Creek. It's extremely light and comes with a lifetime guarantee, so I'm expecting it to wear well.

Happy Easter everyone!

Well, we had a fun night last night at the drive in - saw Horton and Alvin and both were very cute. DH and I really like Alvin and the chipmunks. The family who created them have been our students for many years.... can you say wealthy? But it was so much fun to hear the music and one of my old comics was in the film too.

The Easter bunny came to our house this morning and delivered a basket full of goodies - princess 8 ball, Cinderella robe, some fancy chocolates and other little goodies. But mom and dad hid eggs filled with clues for a mystery egg hunt all over the house that led to the mom and dad Easter basket filled with Pez and a big Daisy Duck hat and other goodies. It was lots of fun. I'm off the DL to hunt down Linda and Jamie now.

Have a fun day today and...
a very Happy Birthday Marilyn and Cork!

Happy Easter everyone.

DH and I were chatting earlier about how we celebrate Easter differently in the UK and the US (in the non-religious sense).

We don't have a tradition of the Easter Bunny as a giver of gifts (well, not that I'm aware of). We do have bunnies as a symbol of Easter, but the natural, small, furry type, along with chicks. We don't do Easter baskets but instead have Easter eggs - an egg-shaped chocolate shell, often with candy inside or in the same box. When we were in the US last month I saw lots of Easter candy, but nothing that looked like our Easter eggs.
