I have seen posts from people all over US and Canada and was wondering who drives the most miles to get to the Fort? And how often do you get to go ? For us it's 656 miles. We go once or twice a year...

Since we usually make minor side trips on the way down (tire shopping, beer hunting) I used mapquest to come up with 1195 miles FW. We now try to go once a year and stay till we are broke.

From Columbus, OH -
978 miles if I take the East route down I-77 (WV Turnpike) to I-95 to I-4.
1012 Miles if I take the West route down I-75 to the FL Turnpike.
I usually take the West route to avoid the WV Turnpike; it's a real pain to drive on when pulling a camper. Even though it's a longer route to the West it's usually a little quicker because the roads are less curvy and hilly. It also depends on if I can get through Atlanta without hitting rush hour. I guess it’s kind of a a toss-up weather to go through Atlanta or Orlando, both are often bad.
I make the trip at least once a year, more often if I can (the years are listed in my sig).

Google maps says 1024 Miles, but with getting off for gas, and campgrounds, and one lap around the grounds and back out on I-4 (see trip report for explanation of that one) the truck said about 1125 miles. We want to go every year, but in all likelyhood the next trip won't be till Oct 09. :(

It is a little over 800 I think. I will have to double check that. I know it takes us about 15 hours.
We only get to go once a year right now. Hopefully we will have time to come more in the future or at least for more than a week at a time.

Right at 800 miles door to door and that's just outside of D.C. at the intersection of Rt. 28 and I-66 in western Fairfax County (basically 10 miles directly south of Dulles Airport) to the 1600 loop at FW. :rotfl:

We are approximately 1350 miles from my driveway to FtW, and although we've never driven (yet), I've been told it will take us about 20-24 hours.
Will find out in April of '09, as that's the next trip planned :sad2:

25 miles for me. We (used to) camp once every two months or more until DH became one of the unemployed statistics. Now, we settle for taking our bikes over & just riding around FtW when we can.
It sucks to pay for a MH & not be able to afford to use it. On the other side of that coin, at least for now, we can still afford to pay for it.

At least you can get to the fort and back for about $20 bucks in fuel. I cant see the fort for less then $800 in fuel.

This year will be "only" 965 miles - and we leave next Friday..! Usually we leave home (just outside of Dayton, OH), visit family in SE Ohio, then pick up 77 down to 95. No family visit this year, so we are heading straight down 75..!

you must be real close by.
I am at 1360 miles, and the gps told me the same time frame,...well wrong again.
it took about 26 hours at max speed and $1500.00 for fuel, that was at around $3.50 a gallon.
now diesel is around $4.20 a gallon, hope it drops some before we go back in the fall.

We used to stay more often, when we lived 1500 miles away (in Minnesota)! But, now that we live about 120 miles away (Fort Myers) we don't go for long trips anymore. We usually hop up for a long weekend, and stay at another resort. But, we always spend a day hanging around the Fort. We only camp about once a year now. :goodvibes

We are at about 956 miles. Wish we were closer. We usually stay for 2 weeks, but I would love to be able to go for a 3 day weekend. It would be nice to see The Fort at Halloween without having to stay for 2 weeks. I'm not complaining about staying at The Fort for 2 weeks, but I would rather spend that time during the Christmas holidays.
