Shoes: Heels and flats. I'm curious!

I've read a lot on here that people are wearing heels for the ceremony and flats for the reception. How does that work with the length of the dress? Wouldn't it be too short with heels or too long with flats?

I had thought about this. In the end I chose a 2.5 inch 'kitten' heel on my shoes. I hope to make it all night. I spent a ton on the first pair and DF said I maxed out the shoe budget and it would be ridiculous to get a second pair.

If you want to switch to something more comfortable perhaps a flip flop with a wedge?

I wore heels to the ceremony and as long as I could take it afterwards. I took them off during our reception and slipped into ballet slippers. With the heels, my dress was the perfect length. Once I was 2.5" shorter, my dress did drag on the ground a bit but it was the end of the day and frankly I didn't care much at that point. My dress is filthy on the bottom from walking along the boardwalk & water puddles during our MK/Epcot shoot.

I have a shoe problem. Getting married on the beach next to the wedding pavilion and the sand goes from super soft to rather hard...but...Craig is about a foot plus taller than me. I have a pair of high wedge sandals...the wedge is pretty big at the front and back so they aren't really "high". When we measured me for my dress, we decided to go shorter in case I picked other shoes or went with none at all. Worst case if I keep the same shoes, my dress will be a little shorter than normal, but that will make walking on the sand easier. I have purchased a pair of sketchers for the reception that I'm super excited about, so my dress shouldn't be too short. I'm still looking for a really nice pair of shoes to wear for photos on solid ground before and after the ceremony. I love shoes. Oh, I also am packing my pink Wellies...just in case it rains!

Most of my girls are wearing two pairs of shoes at least...a cheap pair of flip flops for the ceremony that they don't mind ditching if we go barefoot at the last minute...and a nice pair for pictures/reception.

I wore heels for the ceremony, was barefoot most of our reception, and then wore Keds to our dessert party. My dress did drag a bit, but I didn't wear real high heels (Maybe they were 2", tops) so it wasn't to much of a problem. Plus by the time the reception got going, I didn't care that much, it wasn't like I was going to wear the dress again ;)

I've been thinking about this as well as we have a huge height difference, over a foot, so would like high heels to boost my height esp for the photos but know I couldn't keep them on all day.

I wore heels for the ceremony and then had pretty flip flops for the reception so I could dance and be comfortable all night. My heels were about 2 inches, and I wore those to my fittings, but even w/the flip flops my dress wasn't really too long. I was worried about it dragging around, esp since my reception was half outside, but it really wasn't a problem at all. My feet were KILLING me after the ceremony so I HAD to change, and I'm so glad I did!

I had uncomfy cinderella glass slippers. If crocs had come out with the sassari when I got married, I would have worn those to the reception...I only took off my shoes for dancing at the very end of the reception...

Crocs also has a new 4" high heel called the cyprus...comes in silver/lavender, which would be great for a wedding!

I should note that before any of our FTW events began, I was prepared for my wedding party to switch-out their shoes at some point that evening. I handed a couple of pairs of sneakers to my Event Manager during our Grand Floridian photo session earlier that day:

When the dance portion of our dinner party rolled around, I kept my flats on (I didn't need to switch to my sneakers). However, my wedding party gladly changed into their sneakers:

Beep, you really should find two pairs of shoes that will work with the length of your dress. If you wear very high heels for the ceremony and have the dress altered to that length, it might be too long if you decide to wear flats or go barefoot for your reception. Definitely give both sets of shoes a trial run with your dress -- or discuss the situation with the person who is doing your alterations.

Beep, I forgot to mention why I posted a photo from my FTW Welcome Party. Yikes! There was a point in my doing that, believe me.

Our rehearsal was held inside the Wedding Pavilion on the night prior to our vow renewal. The pants that I chose to wear to it were long. That was okay by me since I had a pair of 3-1/2 inch heels to wear with them. No big deal. I wouldn't be on my feet very long since our Welcome Party was being held immediately afterwards and I could sit during it.

What I forgot to take into consideration was the walk between the Wedding Pavilion and the Grand Floridian's marina. That's a little bit of a hike, and since I wasn't used to wearing heels (you'll understand why soon), and since I was in a hurry to get to the party, I walked at a very fast pace. By the time I made it to the party's venue, my feet were literally killing me. I was in quite a bit of pain. And then I had to stand in those heels for the next two hours. I don't think I got a chance to sit down once. I was too busy moving from table to table in order to speak with as many of my guests as I could. By the time the party was over, I was barefoot and begging my husband to carry me to our resort room. I was honestly terrified that I wouldn't be able to walk for our vow renewal the next day. YIKES!

When we got back to our room, I immediately put on my swimsuit and headed to the pool. I figured a nice long soak in the Grand Floridian's chilly pool water would make my feet feel better. My daughter joined me for it and the two of us easily spent an hour or two in the water. Ahhhh! When it was finally time to head back to our room, my feet felt a little better. I was relieved. I decided that I was going to remain off of them for as long as I could the next day -- the day of my vow renewal.

Now maybe it makes more sense that I shared that particular photo. I also should point out that during the prior year, I had broken my foot completely off of my leg (it was only held on by my flesh). To this day, I have a metal plate, eight screws, and one wire installed in that leg. I should have known better than to walk -- and stand -- in 3-1/2 inch heels. Thank goodness my Fairy Foot Godmother was kind to me on the night of my vow renewal. The flats that I chose to wear worked out perfectly. My tootsies were happy, and I was able to dance at the ball with my prince all night long.

I am lucky that my story resulted in a happy ending. But please learn a lesson from me -- pick your shoes carefully!

I'm wearing 2.5" heels for as long as my feet can stand it, then switching to flip flops like these until my DP that night. The flip flops are not quite as high as the heels. I got my flip flops on clearance at an Aldo outlet store!

I'm not actually changing my shoes, I was just really curious how it worked going from a heel to a flat. I've got some lovely white satin and rhinestone shoes that have a heel of about 2.5", and a pair of silver heels in case I wreck the white ones on the beach at GF and the Poly.

We are having our ceremony at 1000 (hopefully) and then followed by photos and lunch and more photos until around 1500. I'm used to wearing heels so I should be fine. If I was dancing the night away I would definitely change them.

Our wedding meal will be at Le Cellier and I will be glamorous in my usual pink Crocs!

I DO NOT do good in heels, and I do not plan on wearing them to my wedding. I am going to wear a pair of white air force ones, (my mother is going to have a FIT:laughing: ) and not be worried about falling.
