review of HOWARD JOHNSON Maingate East

thinking of staying there the nite before reservations start. will shop at DTD and just sleep there. Is it clean and in a good (safe) location? need info please. trying to decide if stay there ($35) or spend extra for grovesnor ($85).

We did exactly that on a trip two or three years ago and the hotel was fine. For an overnight stay, it was as good as can be expected. I'm not sure I'd stay there for a week but it really wasn't too bad. It was convenient, cheap, clean, safe, and I'd definitely stay there again for a single night; instead of spending a lot of money at another resort.

We had friends who did the exact same thing in Jan.
If you are driving it is a good place to stop and get a good nights sleep before hitting the parks. They thought it worked out well.

how far is it to Downtown Disney? we want to do all of our shopping that night and eat at a good place there.
