The Social Security/ welfare checks didn't come in for one whole zip code today.
And it's a bad neighborhood, lots of people get these checks there.
Woops, post office doesn't know where they got sent but we didn't have them.
People were calling and swearing all day.
Do you think the bosses should have said?:
"Ha, Ha, April Fools! No checks for you today!"

You wanna talk rain?
Here's what the side yard at our house looked like yesterday after about two inches of rain in three hours:
Fishing charters available soon...
http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n306/Jason570/DSC02944.jpg
Thankfully it stopped raining and the thousands of dollars worth of drains we installed a few years ago started pushing all that water into the street. And thanks to the sump pump our basement stayed dry. We were sweating it for a while during some of those storms in case we lost power ... :scared:
:scared: :scared:
when we had the house, we got a battery backup in case the power went out.

Hey Jen - did you see that WDW announced their 2008 dates today for MNSSHP?
I know you were talking about attending one either before or after the cruise (can't remember which) but it looks like they're doing the same thing this year that they did last year - parties on Thursday and Friday nights, but none on Saturday.
Just something for you to think about when you get in the mood to plan for next year's trip. ;)

They don't do Saturdays usually because they are big nights during the week, but who wouldn't run a Halloween party on Halloween.

I just went out to WDW's site to see what the prices are this year and I see they are not available for purchase yet (at least where I was looking). I agree, buy them as soon as they are released.
Jen, if you are flying out of Milwaukee, you will have to make the decission early if you want to stay until Sunday. The planes will fill up instantly at 330 days due to Teachers' Vacation (I mean Convention) weekend.

Not much money in TA work from what I understand.
You'll know when 330 days is since Cheryl, Nancy, Janice and I will all be talking about it I'm sure. However, it will also depend on when you plan on flying down. Also, I don't think you can get the fly back date until it is 330 days from then. If MW (Airtran doesn't put theirs up at 330 days) sells the one way at 1/2 the cost, then I may pick up our outbound right away and book the return a week later when it comes available.
Doing a quick calculation, if you wait until the return is available, you'd be looking at December 5th of this year (or maybe it's the 6th, but if you try on the 5th and it's not there, no big loss - as opposed to going on, on the 6th to find out it was the 5th :headache: ).
We plan on going on Friday, October 23rd, so 330 days should be November 27th for the outbound. If all else fails, we'll fly in/out of Tampa (actually like that because it is less of a hassle) or wait until AT's fairs come out.
If you fly out of Chicago again, you'll have less of a fight for tickets.

Suz and I have been talking about it over the past year, but haven't ever came to the point of acting on buying one. We go to FL on average twice a year, so it would pay off I think. We would only need about 70 points tops for how much we'd use it.

I'll have to remember all this - I'll probably write it down tonight :)
It may also depend on what the rest of the "family" decides to do...and when they decide to fly back. I am all for making separate travel arrangements for the best deal, but there's been talk of "all flying together" :headache: which will probably mean flying out of Milwaukee. My BIL is building up his United miles on his credit card, but I don't know if they (United) fly MKE to ORD or not.
It's not that I don't love my in-laws, but it seems so difficult to plan/coordinate things with them. I haven't figured out why yet.
I didn't really mind flying out of Chicago Midway - we really had hardly any problems. To me, there's not much difference between flying out of Chicago or Milwaukee - both locations are a bit of a drive. So, we'll see what happens...

Quick question....
If you don't always go on a big vacation every year, and it's not always Disney, is DVC worth it? I don't understand timeshares in general, and we are averaging only 1 big trip every 2 years, so I''m guessing it wouldn't be worth it for us?

It isn't worth it for us either Jen, but only because of our age. Buying into DVC now would leave mostly all the vacations for the kids to inherit. I'll never live long enough to enjoy all those vacations I'd need to make up for the purchase price.:upsidedow
Just thought I'd do a little check in myself. We're crazy busy with wedding stuff but I should be back in full swing after it's over...As long as we still have a thread to post on. Seems a little slow here kids. :confused3
We have a lot of changes going on here at work too. Changes that are making Mother Goose very sad. :sad2: (I'm buying a few lottery tickets tonight). Ah yes, the lottery...aka The Rednecks Retirement Plan. :lmao:

 MG - hope the changes still leave you with a job!!!
Yes, we also occasionally invest in the "Redneck Retirement plan" :lmao:
I partially justify the cost by the fact that we get a property tax rebate of about $75-$85 a year from the lottery...so we can spent at least that much in tickets and still break even!
note to self - buy tickets after work...

If you buy the minimum of points, you can then bank/borrow points to make it worth staying for a longer period at WDW. We're using some of our points for our hotel in California at the beginning of the Repo and then several nights in WDW at the end of the cruise.

Today would have been my grandmother's 92nd birthday, she passed in 1995. Anyhow, my grandmother was the person who took me to see my first Disney movie "Mary Poppins" at the theatre in Philadelphia in 1964. She was also the person who helped get my mom, brother, Hazel and myself to WDW for the first time back in 1983.
Thanks Gram for looking out for me today......I got MOUSEBUMPS just thinking about it!!! My grandmother was also my mentor when I was growing up, I still miss her terribly........:sad1:

Does anyone else have the Passporter's Treasure Hunts book? It is pretty neat. If you would like I could start posting questions from the book about the Magic and Castaway Cay. I know some of the answers but I will have to open the chest to find out the answers to most of them. I bought this book for our upcoming trip to Disney in May. Scott and I can't wait to start finding all the answers to these questions. I also bought a hidden Mickey book. But I like the treasure hunting book better.:thumbsup2
Sounds like fun Lori. Please post questions. It'll give all those trivia buffs a chance to practice for the cruise. :thumbsup2

Jen, I've dealt with a peeing cat for years.
I have read and tried all kinds of things, it was very difficult and I never could win that battle.
A****aka was my favorite kitty too. I actually paid money for him.
He was a purebred Snowshoe. Which is a breed related to Siamese.
My vet actually told me that most breeds related to Siamese are very high
strung and have 'ISSUES'!
I pulled all wood panels off walls in my home and took out all downstairs carpeting and put down Pergo floors because of him.
He was on amitriptaline (sp) antidepressant for kitties for awhile too, which helped but I hated how it changed his personality, so I stopped it.
I had 3 cat litter boxes going on 3 separate house levels so every cat, I had 3, could have a private space.
I had to clean the litter boxes at least twice a day or Ashi wouldn't go in them.
I bought Feliway spray..... supposed to calm kitties with the scent.
Didn't work very well either.
Even called a cat communicator..... waste of money too.
A few times he really did have bladder infections, but most of the time he just didn't like to use his box.
He totally ruined my old couch.
Sadly, he went out one evening..... something I RARELY let my cats do, too dangerous at night, and Ashi always wanted to go to bed with me on my pillow, but he begged me to go out late like 10pm in a light drizzly evening.
Never saw him again.
Ads in papers, posters put up around the neighborhood, calls to vets, shelters, etc. And Ashi was microchipped, so anyone finding him, even dead on the side of the road would scan him and they'd call me.
But nothing.
Neighbors had been talking of a coyote around the area, I think that's what happened.
He never would have gone away with a stranger because he was TERRIFIED of people.
I miss him so much.:sad1:
But truth told, I don't miss the peeing.

You must have loved your cat very much to do all that....
Now that I know it's not a health issue, I think I will just have to put down a second box. It's inconvenient, but we're not going to give up the cats. Elminster (he's my boy kitty and the prime suspect) is a cuddle cat. He loves to climb into your lap while you're sitting on the couch. Mara (girl kitty and the suspected upchucker) is more playful but also a cuddler. She's a Daddy's girl - she will climb up onto Pete's shoulders and literally lay across his shoulders. I have a picture of Pete with Mara across his shoulders and Elminster in his arms :lovestruc ....They'll both be 10 this year, so we'll just see how things go from here.

Ours was in 1989, two years after we got married. We did a 2 centre holiday - a week in Kissimmee and a week in Daytona. We made the fatal mistake of getting talking into buying Timeshare. We only recently managed to get rid of it...and had to give it to charity in the end. That's why we so sceptical of DVC.

Our first two cruises back in 2003 and 2004 were paid for with our DVC points. We sold our 350 BCV DVC points after the 2004 cruise to help get my mom to Florida and away from my violent step-father. Now that my mom is settled, Hazel and I decided to get back into DVC.

I was almost five in that first pic. Lori did say "Lookie, Lookie, Lookie" the whole trip. Also, Mom couldn't ride anything good with me because Lori wouldn't have anything to do with Dad for some reason. princess:
The thing I remember most is free orange juice road stands. We drove down and stopped a few times in the orange grove areas.
That last pic was just after a summer haircut. On the trip, everyone thought I was a boy. Of course, it never dawned on me that part of the problem was the softball cap. I was not happy!
We loved going to WDW. Mom would plan some elaborate trip to Maine or Colorado and about a month before she would ask us what we wanted to do. We always said WDW and she and Dad would change plans.
My DH's first trip was after we were married four years and before kids. He was amazed, like taking a little kid. He loves WDW as much as I do. :woohoo:

I vaguely think there may be something on the side toward the front of the ship, but all the shots I have and have seen show nothing. And from a technical point of view, the HAND doesn't have any buttons. The sleeve may.
Now I'm doubting myself and want to say there are 3 on the sleeve facing the forward section of the ship.

Hmm not sure Jen but I know that the Michaels in Canada have different sales sometimes.
If you go here http://michaels.shoplocal.com/michaels/default.aspx?action=entry&pretailerid=-99855&siteid=237&adref=michaels&r=632628972511985621495195175&storeID=2415038 you can browse your local flyer and check to see what's on sale :thumbsup2

I had a unsettling experience this afternoon at Walmart. I was checking out when I thought I saw the person behind the mgr. station fall. I looked over and saw feet coming out from behind. At first I thought she had just fallen, but she was in convulsions. I alerted a very young cashier who started screaming for the other mgr. at the return counter. By this time we could see blood dripping at the woman's head. She must have hit something on her way down.
Several people started coming over, and I sent one to call 911. I asked the young men to move some of the furniture out of the way. When some people with two-ways who worked there came, I backed away. Two customers who I recognized as local nurses were also helping. The paramedics had arrived before I finished checking out. The woman was alert but very groggy when I left. The managers were questioning several people about how the woman had been feeling. I feel sure it was a seizure.
Of course, it all happened very quickly and DS was watching the whole thing. We talked about is on the way home.

Ours was in 1989, two years after we got married. We did a 2 centre holiday - a week in Kissimmee and a week in Daytona. We made the fatal mistake of getting talking into buying Timeshare. We only recently managed to get rid of it...and had to give it to charity in the end. That's why we so sceptical of DVC.
back in the 80's robin and i took a tour of those florida timeshares.
very high pressure, but we didnt buy. it was a very bad experience.
:headache: :headache:
thats one of the resaons we never looked into the dvc. but everyone that has a dvc seems to be really happy with it.

Good luck with that! I'm not sure that's the excursion I'd pick :scared1: :scared1:
It's not really the jungle, just a canoe ride through the mongroves. Here is the description:
Mangroves, Show and Lunch
Wind your way through a lush landscape of mangroves during a canoe tour of Cienaga De la Virgen and withdraw to Las Americas Resort where a hearty lunch and a folklore show awaits.
Sit back and surrender to the sprawling natural splendor of Cartagena as you embark on a 30-minute, air-conditioned motor coach drive — past a spectacular seaside panorama of sand and surf — to the beachside, Caribbean-inspired Las Americas Hotel and Resort. During your scenic trip, discover the fascinating history of the region from your friendly guide, and marvel at the breathtaking views that surround you at every turn. Upon your arrival, board your canoe and then embark on a remarkable guided adventure amidst the calm mangroves and still swamp waters of the Cienaga De la Virgen, considered to be the most important eco-system in Cartagena.
During your expedition amidst the unspoiled surroundings of Cienaga De la Virgen, lose yourself to the serenity of the calm water and secluded coastline as your guide paddles you through a number of shady mangrove tunnels. Revel in the natural beauty as you breathe in the sweet fragrances and marvel at the fantastic foliage that surrounds you everywhere you look. Glide around cool canopied bends as the warm tropical breezes wash over in every direction, and learn about the spectacular flora and fauna — some exclusively indigenous to this region — from your guide. Watch for birds as they soar high and then dive in the sky, and gaze down to the still water beneath you to spy a curious crustacean or colorful fish.
After your hour-long journey, return to Las Americas Hotel and Resort, where you are invited to savor the flavor of a refreshing beverage and a hearty buffet-style lunch, and enjoy the day as you so desire. Sunbathe on a warm sandy beach and drift off to the soothing sounds of the breaking waves or make a splash in one of three resort pools. Then, enjoy a traditional folklore show celebrating the history and culture of Cartagena in song and dance. Finally, after your near three-and-a-half hour resort visit, gaze upon the picturesque sights once more as you begin your 30-minute return trip — passing through the historic walled city — back to the ship.

TRIVIA QUESTION
A map of what island is on the forward staircase between decks 4 and 5?
I'll guess that it's a map of the current itinerary. :confused3
YIKES!! Hope everything is ok now Tanya. BTW...I loved your story about the floppy dix!! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:
