I haven't started packing....as a matter of fact my good suitcase is not fully unpacked from my last trip!:rotfl:
Seems to me that if you haven't fully unpacked that is a bit like having already started packing. ;)
As for us, we haven't officially started packing yet, but we have started gathering what we'll be taking. We received our cruise packet on Monday so things are starting to be a bit more real.
The funny thing is that it seems like I'm the one doing most of the research and planning about the cruise, and I personally would rather go to the parks. It's DW and DD that really want to go on the cruise. I guess that's why I'm doing so much research because I want to make certain that I enjoy it almost as much as I would going to WDW.

I can't believe how many teachers & subs we have on our cruise - I retired three years ago and am now on the school board but once a teacher always a teacher:worship:
See you all on June 6th at the Mickey Pool about 3:00 :dance3:

Grandma Debby,
Teachers are a special breed as far as I'm concerned, :cheer2:
my son has been very forunate to have some of the best public school teachers: caring & compassionate, always challenging him.
This year our district faced cuttting 522 teachers due to the budget- my son and I, along with many PTA members, traveled to Tallahassee to fight for our teachers- we met with several legislators and my son wrote a letter to Governor Crist and hand delivered it to his office.

We are having a hard time in AZ too. I was hoping to get my own classroom for the next school year, but will probably have to sub. Almost all of the school districts here have given 1st and 2nd year teachers RIF papers :sad2: There are cutback in special classes too; art, music, computer. It's bad. We have done letters, marches, call and still hoping for better changes in the budgets. I feel so discouraged. I do enjoy subbing though and at least I can be in the classroom. It will be extremely hard on teachers next year with larger classes, less prep time, etc. :teacher:

:) So are we you ready? I thought it would be fun to hear from everyone and see who is packed already and who hasn't started!
I just realized that DS needs to be wearing long pants to dinner every night.
Oh boy, too bad he only has athletic wear in his closet, I'm going out to buy
some dockers ASAP.
Don't worry too much about pants. I have worn everything from jeans to capris to shorts in the dining room (NOT short shorts, more like bermudas). He could wear jeans and be just fine. There may be people that look down on that, but I've never noticed anyone giving me the evil eye for the way I was dressed (although I could just be clueless and in my own little world).
I haven't started packing but have a list and have a few things laid out on the guest bed. I'm with you 'though. Haven't completely unpacked from my last trip this weekend.
Nobody responded to the lunch at Topsiders at 11:30 on Sunday. We're still planning on that if anyone wants to meet up for a longer visit then.

I can't believe just 23 more days. That means two more weekends to get it all together for those of us with Memorial Day weekend plans. UGH! I was able to inventory what I have vs what I need to get. I found the packing list on the DCL FAQ thread to be pretty helpful, of course I tweaked it to meet our needs.

Getting a firm grasp on the packing will probably be my Memorial Day weekend chore. Not only do I need to pack all the cruise stuff for both DS and I, we're staying at a condo in Kissimmee for 3 weeks after the cruise. I can only imagine how much junk I'm going to end up dragging with me even though I promised myself I'd just pick most of it up at Wal-Mart or Target when we get to the condo.
The good news is DH and I have finally decided to get an Owner's Locker and keep stuff there, so hopefully I'm not dragging as much home!
(The bad news is the annual passholder savings event thing is going on at World of Disney at 6:30 am on June 6. I'm going to try to keep myself under control :rotfl:)

I can not believe how quickly the last couple of months have gone.....wasnt it recently that it was the holidays! My 8 DD is no longer counting the # of days left until school lets out, rather she announces the cruise count down every day. My 11 DS is still counting down until school lets out (for him it is the day before we leave).
I am so excited about our FEs. Made it last week and doing it made me feel like the cruise is almost here. Now starting on pulling together the exchange goodies (both for the FE and kids).
Counting down!!! :rotfl:

Uh oh, breakfast...as in be somewhere on time early? :)
Never having been on the ship before, I'm just worried to commit to something I can't do properly. (I'm not a morning person, despite also being an educator.) I'll agree to anything though, just happy to be going and meeting some new friends to top it all! If I had to vote, I guess I'd say 11:30.
Is Topsiders the "regular" place to go eat breakfast?
Would some of us be having the assigned character breakfast on Sunday?
For as much as I read these boards, you'd think I'd know more!!!

Some will have character breakfasts based on the dinning rotation, We have Palo Brunch scheduled for Sunday, Topsiders is the normal breakfast spot but you can dine in Luminer's too for a more sitdown breakfast which starts a little later than topsiders. I think topsiders opens 7 am and Luminer's 8 am.

Initially I thought breakfast would be the best idea too, but there is a good possibility that at least some would have a character breakfast since it's a sea day. I was thinking an early lunch might catch a few more of us.
The other option is a 10:00 breakfast but on previous Navigators it says that the "Art of Entertaining" is at 10:00 I know that some of us would probably like to go to that. It looks like 11:30-12:30 has the least things based on that Navigator (of course keeping in mind that past Navigators are subject to change). People could come and go whenever they'd like to (if you're at something until noon you could come late, if you have something you want to go to at noon you could leave early kind of thing.
Here's the link to the Navigator for that day...

Any other thoughts anyone?
I'm working on FE gifts again today and we're having a Disney Theme night tonight, "Cars".
Here's what we're doing/having
Dinner:
Lightening McQueen's speedy sandwiches (chicken salad on a hoagie bun with pretzels for axels, cucumber slices for wheels, and black olives for headlights)
Doc Hudson's Deviled Eggs
Sally's Sweet Orange Slices
"Mack" a-roni salad
Pit Crew Carrot sticks & dip
Mater's Motor Oil Sundaes Vanilla ice cream with hot fudge topping
Our activities will be:
Stop and Go game (outside weather permitting). I have a sign that I made for the children's choir that is a stop sign on one side and a green light on the other. We'll run in the front yard until the sign says "Stop" and then go when it's green.
Where is the world is Lightening McQueen? We have a matchbox type LM car and we'll hide it around the house.
Fillmore's traffic lights to go with our sundaes. Graham cracker sticks with a bit of chocolate frosting to hold one each of a red, yellow, and green M&M
Cars coloring pages who doesn't like to color?
Watch Cars
For decorations I have red placemats, red serving bowls and plates, and we'll eat off pie tin "hubcaps". The centerpiece will be tomorrow's breakfast treat or tonight's late night snack. A stack of mini-chocolate covered donuts stacked like Louigi's tire stack.
It wasn't hard to put together (mostly food) and I think it will be lots of fun. My family doesn't know what we're doing, just that we're having a fun family night.

I wish I was going with you. I haven't touched a stamp or my scrapbooks since we moved 9 months ago. The FE gifts are getting me motivated to start scrapping again. It would have been fun to have a little crop on the cruise, but there's just so much to do onboard.
On our cruise in 2007 I did a class for all of the 8-13 yo girls and they made a mini scrapbook out of coasters. It was a lot of work but so much fun and we really got aquainted with people. We're hoping to cruise again for Thanksgiving 2010 with one of the families that we met.

Yes, at this point I'm planning on going. June 6th is DS's 10th birthday, so the original plan was for us to have breakfast at Chef Mickey's at 7:45 am, head over to MK to get his birthday gift card and ride POTC and HM, and then head off to the ship. I've rented a car we're picking up when we get to Orlando on the 5th and will be dropping it off at the port, so we don't have to worry about any scheduled transportation and can take our time getting to the ship.

I'm surprising DS with a Pirates-themed room at CBR. Our plane gets to MCO around 2:00, so Friday will probably just be a day to enjoy the resort and get ready for the early morning, little bit of time at MK, and cruise on Saturday.
What a happy thought...we'll be relaxing by the pool at CBR in 3 weeks!

We are staying at the Raddison the night before. We are leaving bright and early Friday morning and driving down. I found some general info on line and kind of played with it from there. Making sure the width wasnt greater than 8 inches.
The two really helpful ideas I came across was for the trim using extra wide double fold bias tape (as I am not a sewing person, had to ask the sales rep, who kindly pointed me in the right direction) - but this worked great as trim. The second idea was to use double sided fusible tape. Get the "no sew" kind that you use an iron to "bond" the two pieces together. I used the "Heat n Bond" brand Again, I dont know how to sew, but easy to iron the edges with the tape attached and it seems to hold nicely.
I didnt seem to take too long, I think I spent more time walking around Joann Fabrics looking for materials (and picking out which cloth to use) than making it. I actually really liked doing it so I used extra materials and made one for my mom. Now my daughter wants me to make one for her room to keep all of the little stuff in one place.
Hope that helps

Hi, all!
Now that there's only 3 weeks left before the cruise, I've really got to get moving on those FE and Kids' Exchange gifts. We are really looking forward to meeting everyone. My DD8 has been emailing with 4 girls (Hi to Abi, Izzie, Jeanne Marie, and Katy!) and is eager to have some fun with them. My DS11 and 14 just contacted a few boys to get started emailing soon so they'll have some friends onboard, too.
I know with some families not being "in" on the FE and Kids' Gift Exchanges that we need to find another time to meet with those folks. I know that some of us (a 1/3 of the ship, anyway!) will have their character breakfast Sunday morning and since it's a sea day, many others will be doing Palo Brunch. So, maybe an after lunch time would work - sometime between 12 & 2? From the past Eastern Navigator in the FAQ's, it looks like that time is pretty open - or even later around 3 in the Promenade Lounge for snacks might work, too.
We are only 2 1/2 hours away from the port and DH can't take off any more than a week for the cruise, so we'll just be driving over the morning we leave. I'm really tempted to stop the van at Downtown Disney for that Passholder Sale at WOD. There's no way I could be there at 6:30 when they open, but I'm not sure how long the sale lasts. Does anyone know? I didn't get a Mickey Monitor, just read about it here. We're headed to MGM tomorrow after church for DS11's birthday (turning 11) to get the birthday fun card. I'll be thinking of you all when I drop on TOT!
See you in 3 weeks ...
Rose :)

I think breakfast would be great, too. We're new cruisers and I feel a little overwhelmed with all the options right now. There's a great list of people on the first page of this post that I'd love to get to meet and have my kids meet, but I think the later we make our meeting, the harder it'll be to get everyone together (since we all know the kids are going to want to go in 1 million different directions). Whatever we decide, will there be a spot we can choose or something we can wear so that we'll know who to look for?

Ok, I am in for Topsiders at 11:30am. I see people want to meet at breakfast, but if that is your character meal you won't want to give it up. Maybe we should have two options on Sunday?

Hey, that's exactly what I did on Friday night! Don't laugh but I am on day 6 of our 11 day 2005 WDW trip....I vowed to myself that I would finish this album before returning to Disney. Guess I'll be scrap booking all week instead of weeding and gardening...

Oh, scrap booking after I make the FE! Got some fabric and heat bond. I would sew it, but I still can't find the power cord to my sewing machine - misfiled during our house move 2 years ago. I'm revealing myself to be organizationally challenged!:)
I just spent at least 45 minutes trying to get DS13 to tell me what clothes I can buy him that he will wear. He wants all navy and grey, no prints no, designs. Sigh. Gotta buy it before I can pack it! He had a growth spurt and has nothing to wear.
Packing done? I wonder how hot it will be? anybody been on this eastern route before and can tell us? Will it be super cold air conditioning in the dining areas?
Oh, we will be staying in the MCO (Orlando airport) Hyatt the night before.
I couldn't decide if we would want to be at a hotel out by the port so I just went with the hyatt to get more points on our frequent stay plan. Not sure if we will try to go to DTD that night for dinner.
Someone mentioned reserving the shuttle for the next morning? Does the Disney transfer shuttle take reservations? I've just read the thread about going to check in before 8:30 am and maybe getting Keys etc. then and not having to do it at the port. Anybody know about this reservation idea?
What are you doing today to get ready? :)

We're also staying at the Hyatt on Friday night. We get in around 1:30 and plan to spend the afternoon at the pool. If anyone else is going to be at the Hyatt, we should try to do an afternoon meet by the pool. That might make it easier for us to find eachother on the boat the following days.
You can get a transfer through the cruise lines from the hotel to the ship in the AM. My travel agent said to get on the earliest one possible. And, to make sure that you put your Disney Cruise luggage tags on your bags AFTER arriving at the airport, before going to the hotel. I'll check her message and see what other suggestions she gives.
Let me know what time you're getting in to the hotel and if we can meet up.

We'll be staying at the Radisson at the Port before the cruise as well. We are scheduled for the 10am shuttle over to the terminal. We worked on magnets today and will work on FE's next. I've started a little packing.
I don't know if anyone has posted this but the Space Shuttle Endeavor will be launching the morning we arrive back into Port Canaveral. It is currently scheduled to lift off at 7:19am on June 13, 2009. Hopefully it will stay on schedule. Our DD11 is excited about this.
Our DD11 is counting down the days. She has the countdown on a dry-erase bulletin board which she updates daily. She is looking forward to meeting all her peers!!

I would never poke fun of a fellow scrapbooker- I'm trying to finish up our 2006 Smokey Mountain/ Hot Air Ballon vacation and Trip to Sea World, but in my defense I put that on hold when we took Our 07 1st Cruise On the Wonder and I'm proud to say that album is done and I'm caught up on my son's school album( that is until this year is offically over).
Started clothes sorting and packing the special things we'll need for the cruise like snorkel equipment. Had no luck getting the FE supplies I wanted to start my FE gift so I may have to resort to plan B . SO glad I have a 3day weekend comming up to I can tackle some of these other projects.
DS wants to know if there are fellow pin traders out there- he bought some pins this weekend just for trading- which is hard for him as he'd rather just buy ones to add to his collection.

And, to make sure that you put your Disney Cruise luggage tags on your bags AFTER arriving at the airport, before going to the hotel. I'll check her message and see what other suggestions she gives.
Let me know what time you're getting in to the hotel and if we can meet up.

Yes, that sounds like a great idea! It will be fun to meet on Friday.:)
I think we will be checking in around 3:30pm. Our flight arrives at 2:30pm, if we are on time. Maybe 4pm would be a good time to meet? Can you PM or do you have to have a certain number of posts now to PM? As a reminder, I have one DS13. I'll scroll to page one to see your kid(s) ages.
I could just come out to the pool and what...wear a rose over one ear? :rotfl:
I am seriously considering your idea of sitting by the pool at the hotel for the afternoon, it never occurred to me before, but now that I think of it, maybe we shouldn't run out to Downtown Disney on a travel day. I like to run around a lot but my DH and MIL do not. :) And it seems that I would need to rent a car to go there, and I haven't looked to see if it's 30 minutes away or more....I'm so organized, :rotfl: Everytime we go to WDW I am not driving so I have no concept of how long it takes to get there.

We are staying at the Raddison the night before. We are leaving bright and early Friday morning and driving down. DD and I will probably head over to DTD for a little shopping and Rainforest Cafe and maybe some DW resort tours, all depending on what time we make it in. We are booked on the 10:30 shuttle to the port.
I wonder if the Raddison is near the airport as well?
How far is DTD from the Radisson?
I found this link to make fish extenders - good luck!

DS wants to know if there are fellow pin traders out there- he bought some pins this weekend just for trading- which is hard for him as he'd rather just buy ones to add to his collection.
DH wants to know if there are any runners out there- he's hoping to do the 5K run on Castaway Key- and if he has a running buddie - I'm off the hook!!!!:lmao::lmao::rotfl:
See you all in 19 days:woohoo::woohoo:

Ok, pin trading! I have tons of pins and never want to trade them. Maybe you guys can teach me how to trade, :) I do think I have a few from DLP and I'd love to trade them to someone special (fellow cruisers!) They must be slightly hard to come by. I'll go find them now!
And YES, DH is a runner! You are off the hook. Nothing he'd like more than to run 5k!
All of us! We are bringing lots of pins to trade at WDW and on the cruise. We have found the pin trading to be excellent on the cruise. Less competition and they restock their lanyards more often.
Now I'm excited about pins! I forgot there would be pins on board! I'm going to go turn in my coin jar to get pin money! :)

DS is also a pin trader and will be well stocked with his traders. It's funny to hear the trading on board was good for other people--we thought it was the pits on our 4-night cruise back in July 2007. Not that DS is a serious trader or anything, but we saw the same pins night after night on the CMs so it got a bit boring.

I'm also planning on pin trading. I bought all of my kids a bunch of pins that were on sale so that they could trade them and I wouldn't have a coronary when they did. Unfortunately, I think my kids will have a hard time giving up anything they have, even if it means getting a better one.
Is anyone planning on doing budgets for the kids? I'd like to give my oldest some sort of Disney gift card that she can use on the boat so that I'm not constantly being asked to buy her things and so that she can budget for the week (throwing in some math skill review). Do they have something like that on the boat?
Thanks!

Love it! I've got three kids - almost 10 DD, 5yo DS, and 3 1/2 yo DD. We'll be by the pool with my parents and I have no doubt that we'll be hard to miss (my children are not quiet). But, as we get closer, we will have to figure out a clue to find eachother. Maybe we can find some Disney pins on-line that we can wear.

I am flying in from AZ on Friday morning and we are staying at the Hyatt. I think we are visiting relatives for dinner that night, or in the morning for bkfst. We have an Aunt that lives in Cape Canaveral. There is the possiblility that we will visit her when we get back from the cruise. If that is the case I'll be seeing some of you at the pool - maybe. Hi, all!
Less than 3 weeks to go ... I'm working on my packing lists, trying not to overpack. I know we can double up on daytime outfits on the Sun/Mon Sea Days and Thurs/Fri Days since we'll be in swimsuits and coverups most of the time. I'm also going to have the boys double wear their Dockers for dinner and bring along some Shout wipes just in case! With 5 of us, I really need to limit what we bring, even though we're driving over. If for some reason we're running low, I'll just have to do a load on Thursday. Anything to not have to lug tons of suitcases on board!
We are also huge pin traders (except for DH - He says it's not "manly" to wear a pin lanyard!) and each of us have a "theme" lanyard at home on display w/30 or so pins each. Plus a bulletin board full of extra favorites. We've started second "trader" lanyards to wear to the parks since our first ones weigh a ton! I bought a lot of 50 pins online a little while ago for $75 from Pinfinder. All good traders, no scrappers or Sedesmas, and even a few we wanted to keep. The rest, we'll trade for what we like with CM's. The Officer Pin Trading night(s) are usually the best, although sometimes if you can get "in" with a CM in one of the gift shops/at Guest Services, they will go the extra mile for you if you are looking for something specific. On our cruise last year, one of the CM's helped DS11 finish his monorail pin collection!
I just made some purchases on eBay to finish up our exchange gifts and need to start working on our door decorations. The next 3 weeks are super hectic in our house (I'm having 40 people over on Saturday for a pool party/cookout to celebrate our new pool) and I'm going to really have to do some good time management! Better not be spending too much time on the DIS - Although I think every minute I spend on here saves me 2 in great tips/planning ideas. Have a great holiday weekend, everyone!
Rose :)

I don't know if they have gift cards on the boat or not. If I had to make a guess I would say No as pretty much everything is just billed to your room and then you would apply the gift card to your room bill.
Lia,
When our DD was 11 we gave her charging privs on our KTTW (key to the world or room key for those who aren't familiar with that acronym :)). Then I made a "checkbook" and wrote a balance at the top (she had saved $50.00 and we doubled her earnings which we thought was a VERY generous amount). So she started with $100.00. She kept the little checkbook with her at all times and when she made a purchase she wrote it down in the checkbook, did the math, and determined her balance. We'll do the same this time but give her charging privs at WDW and a total balance for the whole trip.
She's not a big spender so it works out great for us. This is the first cruise where she will have "freedom" on the ship so we thought she might like to get a smoothie or something (limit one per day LOL!) and NO buying for friends! She's saved about $75.00 and we'll probably double that or a little more again. Whatever she has left she gets to keep.
Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait! My dad is coming today so I'm driving up to Pittsburgh to pick him up at the airport. Jeff is coming home early to watch Bobbie so I'll be able to run errands up there and get some last minute things. I'm feeling very stressed out and yet content and excited at the same time. How does that work??:confused3
See you guys soon!

Just a quick bit of info. I take Meclazine on a regular basis for dizziness (note...diZZiness NOT diTZiness). My insurance no longer covers it because it's available OTC. I called Sam's club today and got a quote for the chewable Meclazine 25 mg. She quoted me $3.47 for 100 pills! I know it's available free of charge down by the docs office on the ship, but if you want to start taking it before (the first night is always a little rough), Sam's is obviously the place to buy it!

I think I just read somewhere that you HAVE to use your room card to pay for things. If that's the case, then I'm going to have to come up with something creative - especially for the little ones. Libby (my oldest) I can keep in check with threats of no DS. But, I had planned on using actual cash to help my 5yo and 3yo understand and budget.
On a totally different note, what kinds of things do you usually get for the Fish Extender exchanges? Also, it's just once, right? Not every day? Sorry for so many newbee questions. :flower3:

Lia,
Yes, the KTTW (room key) is the only form of payment accepted onboard (other than for tips). You are also unable (grr!) to limit your child's charging abilities to a set amount. I like the idea of telling them that their card has a "credit" on it (decided by you, of course) that they can use to buy things onboard and at CC. You can carry around a small notebook or an index card with their starting amount and subtract as you go. Or you can still let them know how much they have to spend, but print up pretend dollars with your family's name on it and let them carry that around and then "take away" what they spend. I'm sure the 3 and 5 yr. olds aren't going to be shopping without you, so you can have more involvement in their spending. As for Libby, unfortunately, it's either all or none. I require my boys to bring me all their receipts at the end of the day and they know how much they are allowed to spend. They've never gone over and they know if they did, their charging privileges would be gone.
The FE gifts I've received (and given) in the past have included: Candy/food from your area (saltwater taffy from NJ, etc.), souvenirs from your area (cards, magnets, keychains), "emergency kits" for the cabin (safety pin, suction cup, bandaids, highlighter, air freshener, ziptie, etc.), sand/beach toys, pirate stuff, luggage tags, door magnets, and (my final night gift on short, multi-gift cruises and my only gift on this cruise) ... a CD of songs from the Sailaway and Pirate Parties and other DCL inspired music (and the horn!). It's really whatever you want it to be. And yes, we are just doing one gift per stateroom on this cruise. Any more and we'd be running all over the ship all week! You don't have to deliver them all in one day, either. Spread them out (maybe one deck a day?) and you won't spend all your time delivering gifts.
Less than 3 weeks to go! It's getting closer ...
Rose :)

When we cruised in December with our dear friends we all dressed up in matching "Pirate" outfits. We had actually dressed up as "a roving band of gypsies" a few Halloweens ago so we just used those costumes. This cruise we will be wearing those again. Women are olivey green skirts with white peasant blouses and scarves for head and waist. Jeff (the lone male) will be wearing a white T shirt with tan knee lenth pants and a scarf around the waist. I didn't notice a ton of people dressed in costume, but there were definately some families dressed up.
If we didn't do the dress up thing, I looked at some adorable t-shirts on E-bay that had an appliqued Mickey head with a pirate scarf and earring.
Can anyone actually concentrate on non-trip related things? I know I can't!

We're dressing up...not sure when we'll be able to afford to go again so we are getting into it. I went to party city this past weekend and got DH a pirate shirt and ds a jack sparrow costume. I will repurpose an old pair of my husband's work pants to be pirate pants. Got DD's ensemble at goodwill, pieced together a skirt and blouse combo with a jacket...I have a peasant shirt and capris...after Halloween last year we stocked up on eye patches, earings, swords....and then this Halloween we will all be pirates.
I did also download from michaels.com instructions for making pirate shirts for dh and ds using t'shirts and tie dye and some grommots, went so far as to buy the t-shirts and tie dye but when I looked at my to do list, decided much easier to just buy some things.

We all have black pirate themed t-shirts that I bought last year on ChoiceShirts.com. Really cute! We'll wear them with jeans for Pirate Night. DD was a pirate last year for Halloween and she thought maybe she could wear her outfit on the cruise, but she's jumped from a size 8 to a 12 in the past 6 months! So pirate shirts it is. No way I could get the boys and DH to dress up, anyway. Maybe DD and I will look for some outfit pieces at Goodwill and see what we can find. First, I need to find the TIME!

We all dressed up on our 1st (and only) DCL cruise and to be honest, I felt a bit strange. I'd say about 50% of the ship had some pirate-themed item on, but the majority of it was a POTC shirt or the bandana at dinner given that evening. In the elevator I remember someone asking why we were dressed up..."uh...it's PIRATES night!" and someone mistook DH as a CM at Shutters since he was all decked out.
I love our pirate-night picture from that trip, but for this cruise only DS will be fully dressed up. I may wear the pirate hat I still have from the costume I bought for that cruise though.

Principessa, you might not have seen my post from a few days back re: this. I got a bottle of 100 chewable mechlazine (bonine 25 mg) at Sam's in the pharmacy for $3.47. They might need to order them so just give them a call to double check. I take them for a chronic dizziness problem that I have or I wouldn't have even gotten them. We've not had any problems with motion sickness and I was particularly worried for our first cruise since I do suffer from dizziness.
I take them on the first day as a precaution. Take a few hours before we leave and then another one in the evening. I've never sailed during this time of year so the seas might be a little more rocky.

Ok, so after reading everyone's posts about costumes I am going to not worry about being dressed up - we can be in a party mood without the costume, no problem. This could be the night to try for co-ordinating t-shirts, since we ever do that any other time.pirate:
I didn't think about the fit in the suitcase aspect - good point. Disneydka, your costume plans sound fabulous. I hope we will run into you on pirate night so we can see them.
When is everybody eating? Do you have early or late seating?
We have late seating, which I think is at 8:30pm. I hope this works out; the TA told us that there would be fewer young kids at the late seating. I like to eat late and so does DH, I guess the others will just have to go along with the plan! I read one of the food threads last week and there were so many opposing opinions I just stopped. It made me crazy to read one person loved it and the next hated it and they were at the same buffet!:scratchin

We've got early seating. Because of the 2 little ones, and because I didn't schedule a bunch of outings on the days we're docked, I figured this would work out better. However, I know what's going to happen - we'll get up late, eat breakfast and lunch late, and then no one's going to be hungry for early dinner. :scared: Oh well!
Heading to JoAnne's to get fabric for the fish extender and just ordered some goodies for the FE bags. I agree with the previous comments - not much I do these days doesn't somehow involve "I'm going on the Disney cruise in two weeks" thought.

Hello All,
I haven't read the entire thread, but I thought I would post a quick hello (okay, my wife asked me to).
We are -
Kurt - 40-ahem (me, the designated sherpa),
Marlea - 40-ahem (the mom & chief cat-herder). Pronounced - Mar-lee, like Bob Marley the Jamaican singer,
Kyan Grace - 5 (HUGE Hanah Montana fan and diva in charge),
Kristopher - 3 (the smiley, happy boy who's 100% boy),
We are from the Dallas metroplex, but Marlea and I non-native to Texas. My login name here gives away where I grew up.
We did the 14-day east-bound Transatlantic on the Magic in 2007. Port Canaveral to Barcelona, Spain. Fantastic trip, but I would go the opposite direction the next time.
We are sooooooo late signing up for this cruise that I doubt I'll be able to do the FE's. As a point of reference, I Fedex'd 40 pounds to the ship for the transatlantic and then shipped 85 pounds (43 kilos) back from Barcelona. Yeah, we kinda got into the DIS board FE exchanges.
We're forced into the second seating at dinner, as the first seating is full. We'll see if we can maybe change that, but I dunno what's going to happen.
We're staying at the Country Inn & Suites in Port Canaveral Friday night. That is where we stayed last time in 2007, and the hotel was really nice. Breakfast was included, so the kids didn't get too hungry before lunch time on-ship. It sounds like most of the people that I've read that are going down to FLA on Friday are going to be in the Orlando area.
I'll try to catch-up on this thread and get to know ya before we sail. Any questions about us, the ship, give us a post / shout and we will (I will?) try to answer them the best we can.
Can't wait to meet everyone and GO ON ANOTHER DCL VACATION!

:welcome: Kurt!
There are a couple of current and former Hoosiers on our cruise. We moved to West Virginia from Bloomington last fall and Rob and his family are current Hoosiers. We had several people join the cruise at a later time so there are some who aren't doing FE gifts. We are going to have a meet on Sunday just so people will have a friendly face to connect with!
See you soon!

Hi, all!
We have late dining - Our kids are older (at least not toddler/preschool age) and usually at home, we don't eat until around 7:00-7:30 PM or so, so it works well for us. Also, we tend to be night owls and stay up until the clubs close, even though the DCL crowd tends to head to bed early! It's neat sometimes walking the deck late at night by ourselves. We also tend to send the younger two to the kids' clubs and DS14 takes off when they are all done eating and then DH and I linger over dessert. But on Pirate Night, we've always been able to have our server get us out in enough time for the party fun!
We know that with the late dining, we have to be careful not to eat too much on Pirate Night and (on this 7 night cruise) the Dessert Buffet nights (boy am I looking forward to that). Otherwise, we are too stuffed to eat anything after dinner and that's the only time I get to have those turkey legs! I just can't bring myself to pay for them in the parks, but on the cruise, well ...
If we eat lunch around 12 and get hungry in the afternoon, we'll just stop by Deck 9 for a quick bite. We also like getting fruit, cheese, and a couple of pizzas from room service to nibble on while we are getting ready for the shows. Never a shortage of food, that's for sure!
Less than 2 weeks to go ... How are we (or should I say "am I" since I'm doing all the planning!) going to be ready in time? YIKES!!!

Stopped at Hershey's Chocolate World to get the last kids gift exchange items we needed. Now the challenge will be finding room in the suitcases for everything we need to bring!
YUMMM!!!! :-) We went to Hershey for the first time last Fall and had a blast (despite the rain all weekend). I'm a total chocoholic and I love roller coasters, so Hershey is pretty much my ideal location.
Thankfully, my parents are coming with us on the cruise and they live in S. FL, so they're driving up. I'm shipping a bunch of stuff to them to drive up so I don't have to worry about bringing it on the plane. Five people need a WHOLE bunch of stuff for one week! ;)

Welcome Kurt and family! Glad to have you as part of the thread. We'll probably be seeing quite a bit of eachother, since my younger two are also 5 and 3 (although boy and girl, not girl and boy). I'm really looking forward to having all the kids spend some time in the kids club!

I see you are looking to change your seating - I think (but not sure) that Body wants to change his early seating until late - but he is only a party or 2 - may be worth waiting in line together when they set up for dining changes.

Hey everyone, I went shopping yesterday and bought some really great clothes at amazing prices - for my kid! Still nothing I could not live without for me!
I still have not made my fish extender but did buy the fabric!
I checked on rates for our cruise and every cat from 4-12 is open and rates went down from where they have been for the last month or so - It may be a good idea to see if your rate went down and re-price your cruise! Also if you were not upgraded before - you may be now since they opened up more cat 12 rooms! Go online and check out your room - Let us know if you have been upgraded!!!

Did everyone read the thread about the fire at Mountain Top on St. Thomas? Many of the excursions included a trip there, including the one we had booked, Butterfly Secrets and Mountain Views. If you had reserved an excursion that included a trip to Mountain Top (and its banana daiquiris), you'll probably want to cancel it and find something else. I imagine DCL will be cancelling those, anyway, so get a jump on reserving something else soon. Too bad, since it looked like a great spot to view the island from.

Thanks for posting this! I checked a couple of days ago and only 4-7 were open so I thought we would probably not get another upgrade (we went from a 12 to an 11 but I was really hoping to go to at least a 10 for the split bath, or even a 9 since we my dear friend Julie is a first time cruiser and I thought it would be so fun for her to have a porthole-not fun enough to pay full price for it 'though :lmao:). We are still in an 11 but now I have more hope that we might be upgraded again to at least a 10! It also opens up more options to upgrade at the port as I have been considering that!
Thanks again!

Irensin / Lia - yes, we will probably be seeing you at the Oceaneers Club. Kyan loved it, and we're hoping Kristopher does too. Marlea grew up in the NOVA (NOrthern VirginiA) area, so you can hook up with her. We were just back there a couple of weeks ago for a wedding of one of her college friends.
AbsyBabsy - we'll try to swap dining once we get on-ship. The only thing about earlly late dining is that you get to see the shows before hand. Maybe we will actually get to see one or two this time.
Suz D - Is Morgantown near White Sulphur Springs? Part of my family migrated from the White Sulphur Springs area of WV to IN. Bloomington must mean an IU connection in some way. It's okay, I'll be the one half-awake in the hallways in my Purdue shorts and Purdue ball cap. I know, I know - I routinely break the "no wearing of more than one piece of college sportswear" rule.
degrapevine - I recommend not only the cheese and cracker plate from room service, but also recommend the early morning room service of coffee/tea plus light fruit / rolls. This way I can have my coffee in the room prior to having to make a public appearance for breakfast! The kids liked the fruit / rolls to snack on also.
One other suggestion for soda drinkers out there in the group - we took the super-big-gulp cups from QT/Racetrack (with lids+straws) so we could fill up on the sodas from Deck 9 aft. We just rinsed/reused them throughout the trip - probably cut in half the number of refill trips that we had to make. DCL's soda cups are pretty small.

Someone asked where Grandma Debby was and here I am - busy at work, busy getting our pool ready for a 2 week absence, taking care of my 88 year old neighbors and a 101 other things :lmao:
I still need cabin numbers from Lia (Irensin)and Amanda (twinsindisney) for the fish extender game - If someone gets to upgrade :cool1: at the port we will just cross out your old cabin number and write in your new one - NO PROBLEM. My family will deliver cruise survival kits on Saturday night and the list will be included there with cabin numbers and names. You can deliver your FE gifts whenever it works for you
Everyone is welcome to meet at the Mickey pool at 3:00 Saturday for a meet & greet - the kids will exchange their gifts then and get to meet their email buddies in person - but everyone is welcome. I have gift bags with the kids' names on them so they can put their gifts in a bag and not have to carry hand fulls around. Our kid gifts say "from Sierra in Colorado" or "from Sydney in Colorado" so the kids know who gave the key chains or gold nuggets to them but do what you want to do - JUST KEEP IT SIMPLE!!
We leave for WDW on May 30th so this might be my last check in before we take off.
Suz just set a time and place for the Sunday get together and those who can and want to be there will be :dance3:

Grandma D,
Thanks for all of your work on this! You have done a wonderful job keeping us all organized.
We'll be eating at Topsiders at 11:30 on Sunday and we'll probably stay until 12:45 so if you have Palo scheduled but would like to stop by either before or after your brunch to meet that would be great. Look for a table with 3 women, 2-13 yo girls, 1 little girl and a lone man (who will probably look shellshocked by that point :lmao:).
We also leave on the 30th for the World but might access e-mail a couple of times while we're there. Jeff is teaching an online class this summer so he'll have internet service at least a few days while we're on land.

WOW!!! Things have been SOOOO crazy around here! There are so many things that need to be done, that I don't know which one to do first! So here I sit on the computer.....:surfweb:
I can't believe we are leaving in a little over a week, now. I finally got our pool open for the season - just in time to throw the solar cover on it for 3 weeks! haha! Ah, the joys of living in the midwest! The boys and their friends actually contemplated jumping in, but then decided it was just a wee bit too cold. But at least I got one goal accomplished! Then my dryer broke down - things like this always happen on a holiday weekend! Good thing I have a brother right down the street! But there goes some of my money I saved up for "me" things on the cruise!!!
Thank you so much to all of you on the boards who have offered great advice; provided pen-pals for me kids (hi Johnny and Chelsea!); and even made sweet offers to let me ship some items to their FL home so we have less items to pack (you are sooo sweet, Amanda!! - I bought more luggage...). I hope I get to meet some of you on our trip - it sounds like you all will have so much fun with your exchanges! Next cruise - I'm in!! :goodvibes
Again - thanks to all who have made this a fun place to "lurk"!!

Debby - I just sent you a PM with our cabin numbers. Please let me know if you didn't get it. I've been having problems with the PM thing today.
Just as an FYI for everyone, it's Lrensin, not Irensin (I'm so original - I use my first initial and last name. I logged in with lowercase letters, not knowing it was going to do show up that way for public use. The lowercase L always gets mistaken for an uppercase I).
Sadly, I just checked with my travel agent and rates for my cat have gone UP! But, she did say something about if they had gone down the only way to get money back is to cancel and rebook, which might cost more money. Is she missing something that everyone else knows about?
One other quick question - how dressed up do people get for formal night? I wasn't going to stress about it, but my mom seems to be agonizing about what to wear and if my stepfather should wear a tux. There is no way my DH is wearing one (getting him in a suit while on vacation is going to be hard enough!), but my mom gets into this. :cutie:
Thanks!

Lia,
I cannot speak on behalf of what everyone typically does since this is my first cruise, but from lurking around the boards for the last 15 months since I booked our cruise, it seems that there is varying degree of formal dress for formal night. As I stated previously when talking about pirate night...we are going all out to some degree. My DD(16) will be getting a second use of her prom dress, my DH will be wearing his dad's tux, I got him a tuxedo shirt on ebay for $5.01 and a tie and vest that coordinates with DD's dress for under $20. I got my DS (7) a suit and I got a long black dress that is very comfortable but can be dressed up a bit. WE are driving down so we are not so limited by luggage restrictions which can come into play with those who are flying. BUt the way I see it is this is a chance to do things we don't do in ordinary life, live dress up formally to go to dinner. My DH has been great about agreeing with everything, from pirate wear to formal wear to even hawaain shirts for parot cay. He did however draw the line at those preppy plaid bermuda shorts that I would love to see him in. :guilty:

Formal wear...what's that? To my DH that means wearing a shirt with no printing on it...and certainly not printing from a race in 1997. Honestly,
getting the DH to dress business casual is tough enough. Yesterday I told him he'd have to wear a tie one night. The only response was the-look-of-pain.At least he didn't say he wouldn't!:) And I'm only exagerating a little tiny bit! I'll just have one long dress to wear, the rest are just nice-ish, no ball gowns. I do think I need a suitcase just for shoes though. That's the tough part about dressing up, you can't use your day shoes!
Thanks Grandma D for being our leader. Have a great pre-cruise world visit!!! and everyone else who is leaving early too.
Thanks Suz for organizing the Sunday meet at Topsider's. I hope that won't be our character day.
Today's worry: wondering if I picked the right shore excursions or if we are overplanned. Should we have just done a walk around for free in one of the ports? Will I get enough - or any - beach time? At least these are fun worries to have!
I need to go by a co2 detector because I have a headache. My only thought was, oh nuts, please do not let the family be poisoned before the cruise. :rotfl::rotfl:
Not sure how I managed to not pack all last week, must stop planning and start packing! Eleven days! Eleven days! Eleven days!

Hi All,
Started Packing for DS and ironing clothes for the garment bag- We are dressing up but by no means are formal. DS has a blazer that Grandma bought him for Easter, DH wears a suit everyday so he has one that comes with a vest, I'm wearing a very simple black dress.
DH started second guessing our excursions as well, and the cost for the three of us at three ports but I calmed him a bit-

My DH told my stepfather that if he wears a tux he's going to throw him and the tux overboard. So I am right there with you. Anything requiring dress pants and shoes is a HUGE stretch for my DH. The fact that he has to wear a suit even just one night does not make him happy. After a lot of prodding I got, "I'll wear whatever you want me to wear." Success!!!

Hey, everybody!
Honestly, after some of the outfits I've seen in the dining rooms, I'm sure that as long as you are dressed neatly with all appropriate body parts covered, you'll be fine. On our last cruise, I was seated directly across from a table with a very large man who wore a tank shirt w/his armpit hair showing and athletic shorts that looked like they were used to wash the car with every night. Kids are fine in pretty much anything, even the dreaded shorts - put a nice shirt on top with a good pair of shorts and it'll be fine. I do think, however, that adults should at least throw on a nice pair of jeans. The dinners are an event (lasting almost 2 hours for us!) and it's fun to feel like you are getting ready to go somewhere special.
I'm not pushing the whole suit jacket thing on DH and the boys - They'll just wear dress shirts and ties on formal/semi-formal nights. Most men take off their jackets when they get to the table, anyway. As for shoes, we'll wear our heavy sneakers, bring along Crocs/water shoes, dress shoes (males) for dinner, nice sandals (females) for dinner, and casual sandals. I tend to wear a lot of black (that slimming effect will be needed by the end of the cruise!), so I can cut down on my shoes by just bringing black ones.
I cancelled our excursion in St. Thomas that included Mountain Top since it just BURNED DOWN! We'll do the Butterfly Farm and then Paradise Point on our own instead. For a family of 5, the cost of excursions is high, but I figure that it's less for us to do on our next cruise! By now, we've done everything in Nassau, so on our cruise in December, DH and I are staying on the ship.
I requested PLA rotation, which would mean that we'd have our character breakfast on Thursday. I also want to try for Palo Brunch on Monday - We booked late with FL Resident and missed out, so hopefully, we can get it on board. So we should be good for the meet on Sunday. My DD is SO excited to meet all her new buddies. I may never see her if she gets her way - She wants to spend all her time in the club!
Lots to do, too little time to do it all. Working on those exchange gifts (3 kids x 21 gifts each [24 kids-our 3] = 63 kids gifts + 14 cabin gifts [15 cabins - ours] = 77 gifts total) ... YIKES! I'm glad we're bringing a cooler w/water, wine, etc. It will be empty at the end of the cruise and we can put all our new gifts in it! See you all next Saturday!

OMG! That is absolutely disgusting!!!!! How on earth did you actually eat anything that evening? Or, probably more importantly, how did the kids not say something embarrassing, the way kids do?

How do you request a rotation? How do you even know which rotation to request? (remember - newbee here :confused3 )

Is everyone with multiple kids doing the exchange doing one gift for all the other kids from each of yours??? Honestly, I was planning on one gift from all three of my kids. I cannot manage 77 gifts!!!
Principessa
05-26-2009, 04:36 PM
Lia, I think you could opt for either giving one gift from all your kids or give one gift per child. Now how do you know what you signed up for? :) I would try to look back to an earlier post written by Grandma Debby where she explained this. But at this point, as recommended, Keep It Simple- the gifts are mostly to break the ice among the kids, right? I for one know that we won't be counting to make sure we got 24 gifts or something. It's all about the fun so whatever you have finished already, go with it!
That's my two cents.
It's 55 degrees and rainy here. Can't believe I'll ever be somewhere warm, let alone sunny!
I did not try to request a rotation - I'm just going to see what happens. I figure it's the first cruise, we are bound to make some mistakes! I'm not sure I signed up for enough spa visits though! I was reading my Passporter guide and they sure sound nice....apparently they have large individual private showers in the spa that you can use even if you aren't there for a spa service. In case you want to shower and your family is using your shower. They said the water pressure was better in the spa as well:cool:. That sounded like an interesting idea.

Hey everyone! We are getting so close!
It looks like we are meeting at 3P.M. for the gift exchange and then another meeting on Sunday at 11:30 at Topsiders. I also see that Grandma Debby is putting together a list of room numbers for FishExtenders. I was wondering if anyone wanted to put together a list of each of our "real" first names and room numbers. This way if anyone missed out on the 2 meets, they can still find their Dis buddies! If anyone wants to do this, feel free to send me a PM and I will put together a list and send it out to everyone who wants to participate.
It may be a good idea to put together another meeting for during the week - perhaps a spot before the Pirates Party?
One other item, do we want to have an alternative meeting spot on Saturday in case our rain pattern stays with us? I suggest the Promenade Lounge as an alternative. What do you think?
Let me know and I cannot wait to meet everyone!

Lia - Thank goodness that was on the cruise that just DH and I went on last year. Otherwise, my kids (especially my smarty-pants DS14) would have had something to say! After the first night, I made sure my back was to him (and YES, he did wear a tank shirt EVERY NIGHT!).
I requested the PLA rotation just because it fits nicely with the theme nights. It would put us in Lumiere's for Formal Night and Parrot Cay for Pirate's Night. Also, our Character Breakfast would be on Thursday, a nice relaxing sit down late in the week. I had our TA put it on our reservation. We may or may not get it, but it was worth a try!
I decided to have each of our kids do their own set of gifts b/c I was just having too much fun thinking up ideas to go with where we live. (Which is really a boring place, but surrounded by some fun places!) I probably spent $1 on each gift, so my total is probably close to some who are giving more expensive gifts. Our kids are older, too, so I thought they would have fun delivering "their" gifts to the other kids. Honestly, I have a track record of making things difficult for myself, so I guess this was no different!
Amanda - Good idea about an alternate meeting place for Saturday at 3 - The Promenade Lounge sounds great. But BITE YOUR TONGUE!!! There shall be no more mentioning of rain or any type of inclement weather! I know that we've been getting hit with a lot of rain (we are near Tampa), but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let it be all gone and nowhere near the Caribbean in two weeks!
Any other ideas about meeting later in the week, just let us know and we'll be there! We have late seating, though, and a meeting before the Pirate Party would be rough. We barely get to the party on time rushing our server as it is! But maybe something on the last Sea Day?
Time's just flying by ... Lots still to do! Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Speaking as one of the DH posters (albeit late in on the posting action), I believe there should be a Quiet Cove meeting for the adults for margaritas, beer, scotch/rocks, etc. Okay - maybe this is just a "guy" thing, but riding the waves on deck 10 (11?) outside next to the Quiet Cove with your favorite adult beverage while the kids are off playing in the kids club is pretty cool.

I am all about the adult beverage time while the kids are off playing. One of the greatest benefits of the Disney Cruise as I see if is enjoying some adult time while at the same time having peace of mind that your children are being well cared for and having the time of their lives!
I have today off from work and the first stop on my list is Frugal McDoogals so I can stock up on beverages for our cooler. :)

Rose – sounds like you have helium hand syndrome, of which I am very familiar! That’s the affliction moms have when their hands go up in the air when someone asks for a volunteer. Nothing is easy for me – even when I try, but completely of my own doing. I bought a flat canvas shoe holder from Bed, Bath, and Beyond to use as my FE. But, I didn’t like it, so then I went out and bought material to make my own. Complete with personalized Mickey ears for each person. Am I nuts???? Who has time for this?
I love the idea of more group meetings – that way we can catch up again or even meet people we haven’t been able to meet to that point. Margarita meeting??? Quiet Cove meeting??? I’m all over both of those ideas! :worship: I also told Amanda that I think the list of real names and cabin numbers is great and that I hope people will include children’s ages again. This way we can know who to look out for at the kids’ clubs and I can help my kids know how to find their new friends.
Suz – love that you’re as creative about your log-in name as me! ;)
BTW, I don’t remember who let us know about the Travel channel cruise show, but it was great! Thank you for the tip because it was great for the newbee I am. And, it has gotten me completely excited for this trip!!

I think we were planning on doing this, so it will be nicer to meet and do it with friends :goodvibes: We were deciding between the martini, wine or beer tasting last night while we were going over our itinerary. I wonder if you can do the tasting and just order which ever one you want? I'm not a big drinker but I love Margaritas :lovestruc
I'm up for a meet at the margarita tasting, whenever that is:)

My husband runs, but we are so booked on Castaway Cay - we are doing the glassbottom boat and parasailing, otherwise I'm sure he would've done the 5k. I hope we have time to do the treasure hunt too,, I know my kids would LOVE that.
Count me in for a meet on Thursday as we have nothing special planned that day- we could also plan to meet up on deck the day of departure to view the Spaceshuttle take off- still set to go off 7:17 am.
wanted to put this out there one more time - any runners out there can meet up to do a 5k on Castaway Cay-
See you all soon- We leave 1 wk from today:woohoo:

Speaking as one of the DH posters (albeit late in on the posting action), I believe there should be a Quiet Cove meeting for the adults for margaritas, beer, scotch/rocks, etc. Okay - maybe this is just a "guy" thing, but riding the waves on deck 10 (11?) outside next to the Quiet Cove with your favorite adult beverage while the kids are off playing in the kids club is pretty cool.
Kurt H.
This sounds like a "must do" and I know my DH will be looking for some "adult time" at some point in the cruise. We did the martini tastings (2 of them) on the Disney Wonder in 2007 and enjoyed them very much.
Welcome Kurt and family. I've added your information to the first post on the first page.
I like the idea of sharing names and cabin numbers. On some of the other cruises we've been on someone was able to establish a web site that had such information as real names, forum names, hometown/state, cabin number, dining time, etc. Having the children's ages would also be helpful for the kids. Does anyone know how to set this up? I sure don't.
When did Mountain Top burn down? I didn't see that. We were there in January and it was a pretty neat place. We were on a tour so had limited time, but I remember it having a pretty nice gift shop (large), good drinks, and a great view.
We like to dress up on formal nights (long and/or cocktail length dresses for me; coat and tie for DH), but I didn't think people dressed up much on the 4-night Disney Wonder cruise. I was wondering if folks dressed up a little more on the 7 night Disney cruises. We don't do ball gowns or tuxes, but we do think it is nice to dress up a little more than normal on formal nights since we don't have many other occasions to do so.
OK, I've rattled on long enough. I had to catch up and read the last five pages of this thread. Looking forward to meeting everyone in just over a week. YIPPEE!!!

Let's not forget wine tasting too! Quiet Cove, good!
Website: Well it probably wouldn't be too hard. I just read somewhere on my verizon account page that I had web space. If everyone wants to have this info centrally located I could try and do it. It seems like we'd just add info to the list in post one. But Grandma Debby is the holder of the cabin numbers and I'm pretty sure she is leaving today. Maybe this info will be in the cruise survival info she's handing out? Probably not the early / late seating though. (Uh-oh, I think I just had helium hand :rotfl:) Would adding this info to the first post be too public?
Formal Dress: I just hope we aren't seated with the tank top man! We will do our best to be wearing clean dry clothes and not be late! :rotfl2:
Taffygirl: Can't wait to meet you too!
Question: How many of you booked through a travel agent? If you didn't use a travel agent, did you just book online at the Disney site? If you used a travel agent, do you think you got a better deal? Maybe this is off topic, but I was just wondering. Wondering if I need any actual paper documents to get on the ship (I did do the online check in already!) because I STILL have NOT received any travel documents from my Travel Agent!!! This is
the first problem I've had with her - before this we emailed back and forth, spoke once, she helped when I asked - - - - Now though I'm just thinking I should have reserved myself on line....sigh....maybe the "priority mail" will deliver today!!! Krisanm67: Going over your itinerary? Were you using the DCL website, or info you received? I better stop, this could turn into a rant!
I'm up this early because DS is on a school trip to Cedar Point, OH with band/orchestra. He had to be there at 5:45am. ZZZZZzzzz, not a morning person. Luckily I'm an evening person, they are expected back at midnight!
Time for my nap....hope the letter carrier brings me some Magic! :yay:

I am compiling a list of everyone that I will hand out or drop at everyone's rooms. Grandma Debby sent me the list she has with names and room numbers, I have also received several PM's from others with real names and kids ages and room numbers.
If you have not given your real names and room numbers to Grandma Debby, and you want to be on the "master list", please PM me or post it here and I will compile and distribute. (yes helium hand struck me too!)
Well 7 days from RIGHT NOW, we will be packing up the last items, having our breakfast and saying goodbye to the dog, 2 cats, 4 fish and my wonderful father who will be keeping them all!

Hi,
We booked through a travel agent - not sure if it was the best deal, mother-in-law booked and I didn't look into options. I am a bargain shopper and hate to pay full price for anything. I know we got $$ credits for our cabin.
I did print our itinerary from the disney cruise website. There are different options for detailed printout or simple printout. Also booked our excursions through this site.
Planned the spa for couples ( the private mud one for 1 hr) Might cancel it though as dh is not thrilled about mud. I want to consider the rainroom but they only have so many and can only book once on the ship. I heard it is a good idea and showers are great and easy when cabin is full of kids and dh getting ready - I can just go to spa and shower and get ready there with lots of room and quiet :cloud9:
Getting excited and nervous (don't want to forget anything). So busy this weekend with DH's birthday outint at the ShoutHouse (dueling piano bar) last night and today is Ryan's party (movie, swimming and sleepover) :upsidedow Tomorrow is dedicated to cruise prep :cool1:
Is anyone bringing bottled water on board? I heard it is a good idea to fill a smaller suitcase with bottled water and then it is empty to bring home souvevires?

Thanks, you answered my question as I was reposting it! Good luck with your birthday celebrations this weekend. The last day of school is also distracting me from 24/7 cruise thinking! :)
I have been pondering the WATER question....I think I saw you can get 6 bottles on board for $7.50. I thought I might just do that twice as a luxury - I'm the only big water drinker in the family. But I wonder if it's Spring water or just Dassani filtered tap water....I did look at LLBean store at fancy camping water filter systems but they seemed to be overkill. I'd really just like a one bottle Britta type filter and make my own from their tap water which people say is just fine. Am I overthinking this? :) Note to self, look at Britta in supermarket. I like to drink fizzy water with dinner (Perrier or cheaper brand, club soda) but from what I read, that is not included in the soft drink options...guess I'll just have to drink rum drinks all week. Why pay for club soda when a fruity drink is available? :)
I wonder if they will be showing UP on board?

Hi, all!
We are taking a rolling cooler onboard with enough water for each of us to have a bottle for each port day. Also, some wine for me and some diet soda w/Splenda for DH. That cooler will hold all the kids' exchange gifts and FE gifts on our way home!
We booked with a travel agent b/c we wanted to jump on the FL Resident deal as soon as it came available for connecting Cat 10's. On the DCL website, we'd just get the $25 for booking onboard (can't do the Disney Visa $50 deal w/FL Resident). But, booking with our TA, we got an additional $50 per cabin. We didn't go with DU b/c you have to email them for a quote and wait for an email back to book and since connecting Cat 10's were a must for us, I needed a TA that I could call and book immediately with. We got the same FL Resident price as online w/DCL, but with the additional OBC.
They definitely will be showing Up onboard (this past week's cruise would have seen it at midnight Thursday night) and I bet it will be the evening "show" on Pirate Night in the movie theatre - and in 3D! We are looking forward to seeing it, as well as Race to Witch Mountain, DD & I - Hannah Montana, DH & I - Earth, and just me - The Proposal. I'm figuring all those movie tickets at home would cost us at least $125. So having them included (I keep telling the kids that things are not "free" onboard, just included) is a big plus for our family of 5. We're bringing along 10 (2 each) boxes of movie candy to enjoy in the theater, too!
We just finished cleaning up after having 30+ people at our house for DS11's birthday and we have a crazy, crazy week ahead - Church tomorrow w/covered dish, Monday waiting for washing machine repair guy to come (I will be working on those gifts in the meantime!) & PTA Board End of Year Party, Tuesday Reading Celebration at school & decorate for 5th Grade Celebration & church meeting, Wednesday 5th Grade Celebration (snowcones and gift bags for 125 kids!) & church, Thursday last day of school & dentist appointments, and Friday bring the bearded dragon lizard to the boarder (yes, we have to board our lizard while we are gone) & PACK! I can't wait to get onboard and have absolutely nothing to worry about other than which drink to order. My kids can't wait to get in the clubs and although we will do plenty together as a family, I'm looking forward to some time w/just DH and me ... and not cooking ... and not cleaning ... and meeting all of you!
Rose :)

Amanda – LOVE the picture!!!! Great idea, too. I’ll have to figure out how to post one, although pictures of me are few and far between. I do have one with Libby (my 9-ish yo), so that might help.
Princepessa – you didn’t get packets from Disney? Should have cabin numbers and transfers, etc. My travel agent has helped a lot, but the actual documents have all come directly from DCL. I have to say that I love the company I've booked all my Disney stuff through. They're called Kingdom Magic and all they do is Disney. They get their commissions directly from Disney but because they have such high volume, they get GREAT rates. Also a ton of super tips. Can't say enough good things about them.
Looks like we’re going to have to take care of our helium hands – maybe we’ll have an intervention at Quiet Cove or during Martini tasting??? Do I have to reserve a time for that because I absolutely do not want to miss out on that wonderful event! :cool1:
Oh, shoot, taking care of the cat while I’m gone. I’ve really got to get on that! :rolleyes1 I suppose stopping the mail would be a good idea, too.

Awesome idea! My parents are driving up and asked what else they could bring. This is definitely on the list because the idea of trying to schelp all of this home on the plane is daunting!

Finished my FE gifts yesterday- hope you like them I think they're pretty cute- but fragile so-I need them in my carry on- and that's the only hint you're getting. :rotfl:.
Packing is at 75% -DH waaits till the last minute, but if he forgets anything I get blamed:confused3.
DS and I are excited to see UP as well- hopefully they'll show it Golden Mickey night as we've already seen that show.
This time next week we'll all be sailing the high seas with Micket and Friends.- weather is much better here in FL than last week's rains- -we should have fairly clear skies 5 day is only a 10-20 % chance of rain by Friday.

OK, so I just sent an e-mail to my mom about the cooler of water and the box of stuff I'm sending down to her. She said that the literature DCL sent says no coolers (water is OK, but they have to be in a carry on) and no perishables. Rose, you said you're bringing a cooler, so how crazy are they about that rule? Also, I have Virginia peanuts that I was going to put in the FE gifts, but now I'm not sure if they'll consider those perishables. Any thoughts???
Thanks for the help!

How did you get the picture on. I can't do it for some reason......
In order to post a picture, you have to have a Photobucket account. Don't be discouraged, It was fast, free and easy to set up and it makes posting a photo a breeze. Here is the link I used to learn how: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1359157
I just finished my Fish Extender - had a terrible time with print transfer so I finally pitched it in the rubbish and added some other items to the extender instead of our names. I also finished the gifts for the extenders - I was going to order some items but decided to make them myself. I hope you like them, but if not, I hope you pretend to! LOL.
I have so much to do before we leave, I don't know were to start. Last time I checked it was too far away, now it seams too close! I just hope time slows down as soon as I get on board. I have 4 days left of work and need to make sure I keep my helium hand under control for just a few more days and perhaps I can get some of my regular work done. I found some one to fill in for me while I am away - I am calling it a "developmental opportunity", for the poor guy I am leaving all my work!
Well, I better get to sleep......zzzz......zzzz.......zzz

I found some very cool iron on transfers at Jo Ann Fabrics today that I am going to put on the FEs. I can't believe how much more there is to do!!! I'm going to need a vacation from getting ready for my vacation!!
I didn't make the FE gifts - I'm beginning to wonder if I should have since the box I just sent down to FL with the stuff in it was mighty heavy. Maybe I went overboard? I don't know why - that's something I'd *never* do! :rolleyes1

Oh, I hope they show UP also. I understand that it is a really great movie. I hope they show it several times so that we have some choice as to when to see it if the showing (s) conflict with other fun stuff to do.
On our Disney Wonder cruise they were showing Ratatoille (sp?) which had recently come out then. DH went to see it all by himself in the theater on board (not in the big showroom). Anyway, it will be great to see UP on board.
Principessa, we have a great TA with whom we book most of our cruises. I don't think we got a great rate or anything, but she is a gem and pretty much on top of things. Hope you got your travel docs by now.
AbsyBabsy--do you have our cabin number on the list you got from Grandma Debby? I thought I sent it to her way back, but now am not sure. Let me know. Has anyone ever watched a movie outside by the Mickey pool? Does that end up being fun or windy, noisy etc....? Well I mean given the fact that being on the ship not cooking meals makes EVERYTHING fun!
Finally got the cruise docs in the mail today! Woohoo!
Taffygirl - to PM, just roll your cursor over the person's name (ex, Principessa) and click and a list of actions drops down - one is "Send a private message to Principessa" I thought I read somewhere else you need 10 posts before you can PM or 20 or some number, but I'm not sure.
Very good with that Ratatouille spelling, you just need a "U". Sorry,
I'm a French teacher so I have to mention it! :)
Oh yes, I think everyone wants to meet everyone whether they signed up for the FE or not!
Lia - we are meeting at the pool at the MCO Hyatt on Friday, right? I mean loosely planning on this? Our flight gets in (if on time) at 1:40pm. Did I mention 4pm before? Maybe that's too late for you to still be at the pool. Oh well, I'm just so excited I don't know what I'm doing anymore!

ABSOLUTELY!!! I'd love to have a little "get together" by the pool for anyone who's staying at the Hyatt Friday night. Principessa, it sounds like our planes get in around the same time (I think mine gets in at 1:30) and since we can't check in right away, we're hitting the pool. I haven't had a chance to try to post the picture. If it doesn't work, then I'm not sure what to do so that you know how to find me. Anyone on Facebook???
Also need to figure out what the heck we're going to do for dinner that night. No transpo and nothing in walking distance since we'll be at the airport. :scared1:

It's officially cruise time...my FE came in the mail today! I took the really easy road and bought one of eBay. As for packing, I'd venture to guess it's about 75% done. It's amazing how many little things you realize you don't have or wanted to pick up and didn't when you start packing. It seems like all I did this weekend was errands to get things I needed for the cruise/WDW vacation.
Only two more days left of the school year--and I'm all done giving AND GRADING :cool1: my kids final exams, so tomorrow is the big classroom clean-up day for me.
Can't wait to meet everyone Saturday afternoon! (Doesn't that sound fabulous??? It's finally THIS Saturday)

Do you think you could use any on-line photo storage? When I tried to post my picture, I clicked on the photo icon on the top of this message box and it asked for a URL. I would assume any URL would work??? I'll give it a try and let you all know.
Amanda - what do you do for work?
Irensin, I don't know if any other one will work - but it is very easy to do.
I work as a manager for a large insurance company.

Hi, all!
I'm really excited about the movies too! At $9.25 a ticket, it gets really expensive. I am super excited about the Race to Witch Mountain. I saw all of the originals when I was a kid.
Rose :)
I couldn't have said it better myself Rose! We started our packing this weekend and yesterday by DD's BF came over and said it looked like we were moving, I had so much stuff out all over. We are sad that we will be missing his HS graduation Saturday but I booked in 2/2008 before they were even an item. I looked at changing the dates around the beginning of the year but it would have cost us $2000 more so we'll be thinking about him but cruising with you all.
I am also bringing a case of water onboard in a rolling suitcase with some small cans of pineapple juice for our Malibu rum  I also tried some Firefly this weekend with the friends who will be taking care of our animals while we are away and I got a bottle of that to bring...is so yummy with lemonade which I understand they have at the drink station. :yay:
I really need to get off the computer and so some more packing/cleaning. I di not like coming home to a messy house so the more I can get done over the next few days, the happier I will be. Last day of school for kids is Thursday, I already have my mani/pedi scheduled that afternoon during my lunch break and that evening we have parent night for DS's summer camp. We leave bright and early Friday night and are staying at the Raddison!!! Can't wait to meet everyone!

:scared1:

We are also staying at the Hyatt airport and will definately try and make it to the pool to meet Friday night!
I am starting to worry about getting everything done. I felt like I had so much time, and now *all-of-a-sudden* I feel like I haven't enough time to get everything done:confused3 what happened? I'm thinking of all these things I need that I didn't think about before now.
On that note.....are any of you buying/using a waterproof type of pouch/wallet to store important papers when in port and exctursions? DH thinks I should go to the dive store and buy one, I'm not sure if it's worth the time and money.
I also need advice, kind of personal, I'm thinking I need to cancel my snorkeling excursion to save $$ as it is not looking like I will be able to go into the water:rolleyes1. I'm so dissapointed that this *time* is happening during the cruise! :headache: I would rather be safe than sorry, kwim?
Our plane gets in around 3pm. I'm so excited, and can't believe we leave for Florida in 3 days.

I didn't see a full list so thought I would share. I called DCL for the movies for next week and here is the list:
Wall E
Swing Vote
Beverly Hills Chihauhau
HSM3
Bolt
Hannah Montana The Concert in 3D
Bedtime Stories
Confessions of a Shopaholic
Jonas Brothers Concert
Race to Witch Mountain
Hannah Montana The Movie
Earth
Up 3D
The Proposal
The lady was VERY nice when I talked to her and she did say that any and all movies were subject to change. Too bad they won't be offering Night at the Museum 2 as my DD11 is dying to see this movie.
My dining room table is full of clothes and other stuff to pack. We finished our fish extenders over the weekend and off for embroidering today, have a lady around the corner to do that. I've a day full of errands today with 5th grade graduation tomorrow and of course, mani/pedi time. I just can't believe it is finally here. I mean we booked on March 17, 2008 and now it just seems like it's all of a sudden here. Can't wait to drive to the port and see that big ship!!! Here's hoping we all have a safe and fun trip. See you soon, Anna

Kristine - definitely try to find us by the pool when you get in on Friday. My parents are getting around the same time, so I think we're going to stay by the pool until dinner time so it'll be easier for them to find us.
I also agree with Dottie - don't let nature stop you from doing what you love. There are options for you to get through those few hours (which we won't go into, in deference to the guys on the discussion board). :goodvibes
The movies sound great. My youngest LOVES dogs and I think I might take her to see Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Night at the Museum 2 would be great, but if it's not on the ship then it gives us something to look forward to over the summer. popcorn::
Someone mentioned that the weather is getting better in FL? My mom said that it's still pretty crummy in S. FL, so I'm hoping that it's just down there or that it'll clear up by Friday. I actually won't even mind (too much) crummy weather on Saturday or Sunday, since there will be a ton to do on the boat, but if the weather doesn't hold out on Friday at the hotel, I'm in big trouble!!
OK, got to get the kids ready for school. Hope you all have a wonderful day! :thumbsup2

Hi, all!
Just taking a sanity break after packing 130+ goodie bags full of 60's themed stuff for tomorrow's 5th Grade Celebration. If I never see another tie dye design, it'll be too soon!
I agree about the "timing" of your monthly friend ... Don't let it keep you from your excursion. I would never be able to scuba (big fear of open water and breathing issues), but if you are certified and have the chance to experience the beautiful waters of the Caribbean, DO IT! I bet you can figure a way around it. I was able to adjust my bcp's to make sure that next week was a clear one. Kind of a bummer to have to worry about that on vacation.
Unfortunately, Night at the Museum 2 isn't a Disney film and since it is a first run (in theaters now), it won't be shown onboard. They do show non-Disney movies on the stateroom tv's, but they are ones that are already out on DVD. There are plenty of other films to see - I'm glad that Shopaholic is still onboard, since I missed that one in the theaters. That would be a fun one for a "girls' night out"!
The weather has been clear here, hot but no rain in the Tampa area the past few days. I don't mind light showers here and there, but please, no deluges! No Facebook account for me - I can barely keep up with my email! But our family will be wearing matching Disney t-shirts with character faces on balls and we should arrive at the port around 11 AM (that's my plan, anyway).
Lots to do, got to be at school at 1 PM to set up for the party tomorrow, then be there all day, last day of school on Thursday is a half day, so my "alone" time is growing short. I have a list of everything I need to pack, but our washer just got fixed and I have piles and piles of laundry! We are really cutting down on what we are bringing. I figure if I have to do a small load on Thursday, I will.
4 days to go!

good luck with your school activities and getting ready for the cruise - you will finally get to relax in just 4 more days :cloud9:
Unfortunately I'm not on bcp. I sooooo wish I was at this point so I could adjust the days. We are snorkeling (not scuba) so I could get another chance one day - Or, I'll just cancel mine and add myself back on if everything is ok to do so (wont get into the messy details of it or why). I will be happy as long as the kids still get to go and DH is still taking them. The excursion is the Buck Island one to see the sea turtles and shipwreck. Oh, and my dh said I could spend the money from my missed excursion on extra shopping so that is a good consolation.
I was seeing some rain in the forecast for the cruise. We are bringing a couple of small umbrellas just in case.
We took a bunch of kids to see Night at the Museum for my son's birthday party this last weekend, and my Dad took them to see Up. I'm excited to see The Proposal and the kids want to see Up again. popcorn::

Hi Everyone,
I'm just checking in with you guys! We are here at WDW and having a great time. The weather has been hot but very nice. No rain and relatively low humidity. As much as I'm loving this part of our vacation I'm super excited for the cruise!!
Anna, Thanks for posting the movies! There are WAY too many that I want to see.
Rose, I think a girls night for "Confessions of a Shopaholic" would be great!
Okay, here's a fun thing for all of you. We had a magical moment on Sunday. Bobbie wanted to ride Pooh one last time but when we got there with our fastpasses, the ride was down. Bobbie sat right down on the pavement and cried. It was so sad (and funny at the same time). Jeff had left his annual pass in the fast pass machine at Big Thunder Mountain (or Big Thunderstorm as Bobbie calls it) so he went ahead to guest services to get another annual pass and Katie, Bobbie and I were strolling leisurely down Main Street towards the exit. When we were in front of the town hall, a cast member came up to us and commented on Bobbie's "1st visit" button. She asked if we'd met many characters. We replied that we had not. She asked if we wanted a surprise and of course since I'm no dummy I replied "of course"!
We parked the stroller and she took us into the lobby and all the way through to the back. We stood behind a curtain and she told the girls to say "Bippity, Boppity, Boo" which we all did. She pulled the curtain aside and......
THERE WAS CINDERELLA AND A PHOTOGRAPHER!
We had about a 10 minute private visit with Cindy and the photopass guy. I was balling like a baby. We left MK and made our way over to Epcot to continue the magic with a late lunch with the Disney Princesses!
It was a truly magical day!

Kristine,
We are also booked for the Buck Island catamaran snorkel excursion. Which one did you book? We are booked on the 12:15 one. Family did not want to have to have it be very early in the morning. I guess the concern I have is that it looks like it runs from 12:15-4:00pm and according to cruise docs we are supposed to be onboard that day at 4:00pm.
In any event, we booked it and I can say I am a bit concerned that I won't be able to get the mechanics of the snorkeling itself, though I will give it the old college try and worse case scenario, I get a nice boat ride and swim out of it.
I have not booked anything for Saint Maarten. I wouldn't mind teaming up with another family who doesn't have any excursions booked and maybe we can figure out how to wing it together. Neither DH or I are real comfortable wandering around aimlessly, especially with our kids in tow. Any suggestions?

Hey everyone!
I checked the weather - 40% chance of thunderstorms on Saturday - but don't worry this is Florida. Today when I left work it was storming - then 3 miles later at my house - it was sunny! Also have 40-60% cloud cover - this is good especially for you northerners who burn easily!!
Lia - I req you as a friend on facebook. I LOVE your Pic - YOU TWO LOOK SO ALIKE! I did not know you had a nine year old - I do too. Her name is Abigail. She has been emailing Izzy, Gina and Jeanne! We can get them all together!
Kristine - how old is Libby? sounds like they are all about the same age - we may have a gang on our hands!
Suz, that is great about Cinderella - what a wonderful and magical moment - Don't you just LOVE disney?
Rose, I agree - girls night out conf of shopoholic!
Kristine - I agree with the girls - don't let it bother you - everyone deals with it and there are products that work well while swimming - although I don't know if I would swim with dolphins during that time - I hear they can be sensitive!
Schools not out here yet. I have to be at my daughter's school early to start filling up water balloons for the end of the year party. Today the kids cleaned out their desks and brought home all their folders. Tomorrow is the end of the year party, then two hour early release Thursday and Friday - and we all know what is happening on Saturday!
I bought a bunch of big Snickers Bars today to hand out with my tips for room service and stuff - I hear they appreciate candy!
Well I have to go and prepare my acceptance speech for when we get picked as "Family of the Week"
night night

Suz - GREAT news and how incredibly exciting for the girls! Can't wait to see some pics!
As an FYI for anyone staying at the Hyatt Fri night - we booked dinner at McCoys Bar and Grill for 6 PM. The steakhouse looks out over the runways, but the food is way more sophisticated than my kids can manage, so the grill it is for us. If the weather isn't good for the pool, or if anyone gets in late, you can look for us there.
Tomorrow's Wednesday - I'm so far behind and not sure how I'm going to get it all done. I am going to need lots of big drinks with umbrellas in them. Speaking of, did we get a day or time for the martini tasting adventure??? Can't wait for that!
Have a good night - I'm off to bed so I can run around like a chicken with my head cut off tomorrow AM.

Dawn,
Although I've never been to St. Maarten, we've been to Nassau twice with DCL, Cozumel once, and Grand Caymen once. On all of those we didn't book any excursions, we just walked around. This time we booked one excursion on St. Maarten and plan on wandering around after the excursion is finished. We didn't book anything on St. Thomas and will just wander around there. I honestly would not feel the least bit uncomfortable walking around with your kids. It's so interesting, and we love just chatting with local people.

One thing I forgot to mention. On Sunday when we are at Topsiders at 11:30, our family of 4 will be wearing matching bright green Disney T-shirts. Just look for us! I will be wearing a lime green button that says "I'm celebrating".
I totally can't WAIT until Saturday!!!
How are you getting the snickers bars on without having them melt? I really wanted to bring chocolate for our servers but didn't think I could get it onboard in anything other than liquid form?

Taffygirl - to PM, just roll your cursor over the person's name (ex, Principessa) and click and a list of actions drops down - one is "Send a private message to Principessa" I thought I read somewhere else you need 10 posts before you can PM or 20 or some number, but I'm not sure.
Thanks Principessa, but when I clicked on the name, the only things in the drop down box were the person's name again, "View Public Profile," and "Find More Posts by Principessa." I couldn't find anything saying "Send a private message to Principessa" or anyone. I have 40 posts so that shouldn't be the problem.
Thanks anyway. Its bedtime now with more packing to do tomorrow.

To upload your pic, go to photobucket. Once you upload the pick, look underneath the photo to the list of different image forms. The last one is IMG and in the box is the link you can use here. Copy and paste it directly into this message box and it'll show up. I know I didn't explain that as well as the link Amanda posted, but it is super easy.
Suz - thank God for photopass!!!! :worship: Also love that you can purchase the CD of photos to do what you want with! Was Cinderella at the Epcot lunch? We booked the Captain Nautica snorkel adventure and we go at 12 also. Is that the one you are on? I guess there are three different ones. I chose the fastest boat 'cause we just want to get to the spot and see the turtles (hopefully). I've never snorkeled either. I'm not sure about me yet on this one, but I'll let you know on the cruise meet up. I'm so excited to meet you and everyone. On St. Martin we are doing the under two flags tour - MIL idea and I hope the kids will do ok as they like to go, go, go, not sit on a bus - but at least we get to both parts of island (particularly the French side I am excited to see and try pastries) and there is time to explore, so I don't think it is bus riding and history the whole time. If you sign up for that one, we can hang out. We canceled our trip to Paradise point on St. Thomas because of the fire. I'm a little unsure about the 4pm return from Buck Island also, AND we have our Palo res for that night at 6pm. We are really pushing things that day :rotfl2:

Kristine, I'm totally with you on that! Not ONE good family photo in 2 1/2 years! I'm really looking forward to the formal pic on DCL!!
I did it! Thanks for the help! This photo was taken in Dec 08 up in Flagstaff, AZ at my graduation.

Kristine - love the picture!!! Even if it's over a year old, it's a GREAT picture and definitely one to be proud of!
My son "graduates" from preschool tomorrow and I'm already balling. Things just go so fast once they start kindergarten and I'm sad to see this first part of his life go by. Thank God I have one more, but....
OK - unrelated question - hairdryers. Anyone have any thoughts about how good the ones in the cabins are or if I should bring my own??? Thanks!

Hey, all!
Just an FYI - The fire on St. Thomas was on Mountain Top (the one with the "famous" banana daiquiris) NOT Paradise Point (the one with the sky ride). Paradise Point is in the opposite direction of Mountain Top. We canceled our Butterfly Secrets and Mountain Views excursion, which went to Mountain Top, and I booked the Butterfly Farm separate, as well as the Sky Ride to Paradise Point. Those two are not scheduled excursions, just tickets that you can use anytime during the day. They were actually a little cheaper through DCL than buying them on location. DH is happpier, since the Butterfly/Mountain excursion was at 9:15 AM and he did not want to have to get up that early! This way, we can sleep in, have a lazy morning around the pool, eat lunch, then head out.
I also read in another thread that they have started up the Dine and Play program again, which lets kids in late seating get their dinner first, then after 45 minutes the CMs come and sign them out to go to the clubs. Great for us, since DD8 always wants to go and we have to draw straws (well, not really, but you get the idea) to see who will take her. Now, she can go, the boys can head out, and DH and I can linger over dessert. Yeah!
I just got home from school and the 5th Grade Celebration is over and went great! I am half deaf, though ... Boy, those kids are noisy and the music was so loud. Or maybe I'm just getting old. Anyway, last big thing done - Tomorrow is a half day, so I've got to get everything done so we can pack on Friday. FE gifts are done, just need to be "wrapped" and the Kids' Exchange gifts are printed, just need to laminate and wrap with the candy/stickers/stamps/etc. Then door magnets and start piling clothes. What was I thinking booking a cruise 2 days after school gets out? Oh yeah - The FL Resident discount got me!
See you all on Saturday - We'll be arriving at the port around 11 and will all be wearing matching Disney shirts with characters' faces on balls. I think this is the last time we'll be able to wear them, though. The kids are growing like crazy! 3 days to go ...

Hey, us too! Under two flags tour, for the MIL! I wonder how many buses there will be for that tour! Maybe we can coordinate...Pastries, and perfume shopping on the French side!
I can't wait to leave PA -it's 54 degrees, raining and cloudy. Lights have been on all day. I can't imagine I'll ever be warm again!
FE is *almost* done. It was a bargain until I ran out to JoAnn's again today to get some embellishments...found cute appliques of Mickey etc. on sale.
Oh well.
Packing - well the laundry is done. I think I'll be up all night tonight. We have to leave for the airport at 6am on Friday and I'm running around all day tomorrow. When was it that we had weeks and weeks to get ready??:rotfl::rotfl:
Love the pictures everyone is posting. By the time I get around to that on the to do list we'll all be in our cabins!

Central PA isn't too much warmer today and just as gloomy. Today was our last school day and all I could think as I got in my car to drive home is "this is summer????" Tomorrow is supposed to be the same weather-wise; not the ideal conditions to be trying to tame all the weeds in my landscaping before we leave.
A 6 am flight doesn't sound too fun, but at least you'll be in hot (and hopefully sunny) Florida early on Friday. Our flight leaves Harrisburg around 11 am...I'm hopeful we're checking into CBR by 3:00.

Hi, again!
It's definitely NOT cold here in FL! Now you all are making me feel bad! It's been stifling here in Tampa, low to mid 80's with rain tonight (first time in a while). I am looking forward to the heat WITHOUT the humidity in the Caribbean. I can't wait!
Also, how cool is it (at least for us FL fans) that we'll be able to watch the Magic play in the NBA Finals ON THE MAGIC?! Hopefully, Diversions won't be packed in like sardines and we'll be able to enjoy some games in there. Any chance they might play a game on the Dumbotron instead a movie or two? How can you not root for a team called the Magic on a Disney cruise?
All our FE/kids gifts are done, just working on wrapping/bagging them up and the packing piles have started. I keep telling DH and the kids we ARE leaving at 8:30 AM on Saturday to get to the port. They are doubting me, but we will leave early! See you there ...

Good luck tomorrow at preschool graduation {{{hugs}}} it is really hard. I get so sentimental every milestone too.
I'm not packing a hair dryer. Even if the one they have isn't great, I don't want to pack one more thing. We have so much packed I can't believe it! We almost need a suitcase just for shoes, but with formal night and semi-formal and needing sandals/flipflops and tennis shoes....... :scared1:

Today is the last day of school and my last chance to get packed. I took tomorrow off and we are heading down to the port bright and early. We have so much luggage but that is DCL's fault for giving me 4 luggage tags per person. FE gifts are done and most of the packing has been done as well, am up early to bubble wrap our bottles of booze and run through the packing list to see what I forgot. DH is off today so he will have a honey do list to complete while I am slaving away at work. See you all in 2 days!

They showed the NBA Finals on the Wonder last year when we sailed then. Being from Orlando, and a sportscaster by trade, I think DH's head might explode if they don't show any of the games!
I feel so over packed it isn't even funny! I'm glad I"m not the only one!
I'm starting to get scared about keeping DD 18 months safe on the ship but I have to trust it'll be ok.

Dawn ... DCL only sends two luggage tags per person. The passenger's name is printed on both ends of the tag that gets folded in half, then you tear off the backing of just one half of the tag and press it together. Just make sure you don't have more than 2 x # of passengers on your trip or you won't have enough tags!

Without a casino he got bored by the last day on the Wonder, but I'm sure he'll be fine and entertained what with the NBA finals and the wine/margarita/martini tastings we all want to do.

Between me dragging him and DS to a yet ANOTHER character photo-op (why wouldn't you want a picture with every character in every outfit they have? :rotfl2:) and rough seas on our last day, DH pretty much swore off any 7-nighters.

We miss our cruising home and service team sooo much. I am sitting on my bed, no one turned it down. No towel animals and certainly no chocolate. At dinner - no appetizer! No dessert! I had to ask myself - What in the world is going on? Then when I brushed my teeth, I noticed my dog, Charlie - and I had to walk him. I went outside and realized, no ocean - no soda machine 9aft, no ice cream, no huge TV, no smiling CM's everywhere. No Dis buddies to hang and laugh with. Where oh where is my Nigel to clean my room.
Oh well, off to bed. Perhaps in my dreams I can return to that special spot on deck 4 - port - near the bow. In my mind I can still smell my stateroom - Oh wait - it is the Spa lotion I just put on!
I hope everyone has returned safely home or are continuing on to the rest of their vacation.
Amanda
Well...it is Sunday morning and I woke up to NO excursions booked, NO fresh coffee from Cove Cafe AND NO Amanda, ED, Nanna, Melanie and Randy sitting on deck to chat with. How sad!
Izzie slept in the car for 4 of the 10 hours of driving back home yesterday. The trip is normally 8 hours but there were 3 separate accidents on I95 that had us sitting still for quite a while.
We had a blast and made some amazing new friends in the process. I want to thank you all for making my trip more than just Magical. I can't wait to see everyone again!

We are home and missing the Disney Magic. Every day we think, "at this time last week we were....." It is hard to get back to our real life; not on the cruise, and not planning for the cruise. Sat. was a loooong day we arrived home at around 10:30pm Arizona time, Sunday was spent doing laundry and sleeping. I ended up taking 748 pictures:rotfl: I took photos off all the decorated cabin doors, spots on the ship, excursions, characters with my kids, all the food etc. I'm sure I will excite some friends with all of these and bore many others. I am going to make a photo book for my MIL as her final 70th birthday gift of the cruise.
Thank you for all the fish extender gifts!! We had a lot of fun! I LOVE the ornament, and will treasure it always. The kids have been playing the cd's every day since we've been home and even made a deal with me to pay them $1.00 a week for me to wake up to Disney Cruise music, like when we would open our cabin door and hear the music in the hallways (I told them that was one of the things I missed).
Kellie and Ryan made good friends with Sierra, Emily and Libby and miss them already :sad1: but will surely keep in touch with email.
Our dining rotation was APLAPLA and our waiters were Dennis and Collin, they were both great! The kids loved them and Dennis did some fun magic tricks too. My fave restaurant was Lumieres and wished we went there 3x instead. We were at Table 12.
DH and I LOVED Palo! I wish I could get the portabello appetizer right now, even though it is only 8am.
I miss going by the pool and getting all the fresh fruit I want (already cleaned and cut up).
Well.....back to reality of cooking and cleaning. And, figuring out a way to go on the Disney cruise again!
I will try and post some pictures soon.

Hi Kristine,
It was great meeting you and your family. As far as I know, you were the only DISers we met, though we met several people on board so it is possible the I spoke to others of you and just didn't know it.
Glad you made it home safely. You beat us home. We didn't get in until around 2:30 pm on Sunday. Of course, that's because we drove and detoured to Walt Disney World's Downtown Disney for a couple of hours to do some shopping.
We're trying to get back to the real world too. I started back to work today. Nothing like going from one of the happiest places on Earth to one of the least happy. :rotfl:
I know what you mean about the Disney music. I've seriously considered hooking up speakers in our home and linking them to an iPod with an all Disney song playlist on shuffle. I think that would be really neat. However, I'm not sure my wife would allow it.
Anyway, glad everyone had a great cruise. I look forward to reading more of everyone's adventures over the coming days and weeks.

My family & I had a great time cruising with all of you! :thumbsup2 My boys made some great friends on board, so much so, that I had difficulty getting them to even have dinner with us in the evening. :confused3 They had plenty of freedom on board, although Dad still checked in them on a regular basis. They were told in no uncertain terms that I did not want to see "you tube" videos of them running rampant on the ship! :rotfl2: I was really sad :sad1: not to have seen the shuttle launch Saturday morning. Oh well, hopefully one of these times.
We spent a looonnng day traveling back to MN on Saturday, arriving home about 8:00PM. We then had to repack the 2x DS's pirate:pirate: for boy scout camp. After waking up from my coma on Sunday morning, I then spent the day hauling them up to camp and getting them checked in, whilst the DW sifted through the mountains of our accumulated cruising laundry.
Thanks for the great FE gifts. The DW & the youngest DS had a great time delivering ours to all of your various cabins.

They must be quite new in town, as neither Missy (the DW) or I know them. :confused3
Anyhow, it was really fun to have meant many of you! Normally, the DW is a bit teary eyed when we get off the boat. She was extremely comforted this time by the fact that we'll actually be back on board the "Magic" in 40x days!:cool1:

Hi, everyone!
Well, I think we are all finally back to the real world. So much for a week long trip - It just flew by and I can't believe it's already over. I've finished all the laundry from the trip and the suitcases are empty. The last one to unpack was the rolling cooler, which no longer had wine and water bottles in it, but was full of FE and kids' exchange gifts! What fun it was looking through everything. I think we all have a good start on a state keychain collection! My kids (and Mom, too) loved checking the FE every time we got back to our room.
Thanks to everyone for making the long trek down to Deck 1 to our room. We've stayed in those rooms on the Wonder before and haven't had any problems, but this time, there was a terrible loud mechanical noise that went on all night and morning. Sometimes, just once or twice an hour, but others, every 4-5 minutes or so. We must have been next to some type of hydraulic lifts or something. I spoke with Danny (what a great guy) at Guest Services, but the best they could move us into were two rooms on Deck 2 that were 34 rooms apart - Not what was going to work for our family of 5. So, we stayed in those rooms all week. They gave us free earplugs and sent some trays of cheese, fruit, and other goodies to our cabins. Didn't seem to bother the kids too much, but DH and I were like zombies by the end of the week.
Then, after a great day in St. Maarten, we went to the Butterfly Farm in St. Thomas and then headed over to Paradise Point for the sky ride. Broken! We wandered around a bit, then went back to the ship. We went to Guest Services (Excursion Desk was closed) to credit our account and realized if we had come right back quickly, we could have switched to another excursion, but the last one had already left. So, we didn't see much of St. Thomas. But ... the officer (Kemisha) who helped us was Danny's "boss", so she already knew about our cabin situation. She must have felt bad for us because she offered to put a $100 credit on each of our staterooms! So everytime the noise would go off, we would say "There's a quarter!" It made a bad situation more tolerable.
Otherwise, we had a wonderful week. My DD8 Gina spent so much time in the Lab playing with her new friends Izzie, Abi, and Jeanne Marie and my DS11 Patrick couldn't stop talking about how much fun he had with Johnny (the Guitar Hero king). As for DS14 Eric, evidently there was a bit of a shipboard romance going on that I found out about the morning of debarkation when a real cute girl came to give him a hug goodbye. She emailed him even before we got home! She lives in Clermont, which is between Tampa and Orlando and her mom works at WDW, so we'll see if anything comes of it. Not exactly what I was looking forward to on our vacation! We spent a good part of the rest of the day at Downtown Disney, trading pins, and shopping. We also had lunch at T-Rex. It was kind of neat, loud, but fun. Owned by the same company as Rainforest Cafe, so a similar menu/prices. Glad we did it once.
We booked onboard for a 5 night next August, but we're hoping that there might be FL Resident rates earlier in the summer so we can switch and cancel. The 5 night next year is $1500 more than our 7 night just cost us in the same type/number of cabins! DH and I are going on a 3 night in December for our 20th anniversary and ... I'm seriously considering taking my oldest and youngest (the middle would be at camp) on a 3 night next month. The Disney Summer at Sea is going on and the 3 night on July 9 features all 3 stars (other than Demi L) of Sonny with a Chance AND CORBIN BLEU! So we're thinking about it.
Thanks again to everyone for making the cruise so much fun - We were a little bummed about the space shuttle, too, since we won't drive over for a launch, but that's the way it goes sometimes! Great pictures of the girls, Amanda - Gina misses Abi already (although she HAD to get a Club Penguin stuffed animal at DTD to get on there!). Have a great summer, everyone!

Hi Everyone,
So glad you all had safe travels home, but sorry that I didn't get to meet all of you. Actually, I only met a few of you. But what a wonderful cruise, huh?
Anyway, I must relate one thing that happened to us enroute to Florida on Friday, June 5th. We (6 of us) arrived at the Philadelphia airport in plenty of time for our 11:30 flight. While waiting in line to check our bags, we noticed that the departure monitor said that OUR flight was CANCELLED!!!!!:scared:
OMG! When we got to the agent he gave some double talk about the weather and that the air traffic controllers cancelled our flight, but we didn't believe him as it was the ONLY flight to Orlando that was cancelled and the weather wasn't an issue. Rather than move us to a flight on another airline, they said that we would be flying later that day on a flight that would leave at 3:30 p.m. and arrive in Orlando around 6.
Well, had we been traveling to Florida on Saturday and this happened, we would have missed the boat! Literally.
So, I guess the lesson here is to try to arrive a day early if at all possible. BTW, once we were on the flight we noticed that the other families and travelers who were supposed to be on the earlier flight all were seated on this later flight--and seated together. We suspect the airline had two half-filled flights and decided to combine the passengers on one flight. Don't know what would have happened if this was the day the ship was to set sail, but we suspect the airline wouldn't have done anything for us as it "wasn't their problem." A little sour grapes here, I know, and as it turned out, all went well, but it certainly is a lesson learned.
Hope everyone has their laundry done and is contemplating their next big adventure. It was nice chatting with you all over the past year or so.

It was really great meeting you and your family too! Wow, even with the stop at Downtown Disney, you had a long trip home. We enjoyed our vacation so much we are thinking of doing another Disney vacation soon. We would love to get to Disney World but may have to to settle for Disneyland - which is great too, but we've been there a lot and would like to get to see Disney World. We are just waiting on me getting a job. I am a teacher and teaching careers in AZ are not so great right now. We will get back to Florida eventually! If we are really lucky we will get to go on the Disney Cruise to Northern Europe - well I can dream :cloud9:

Did anyone get their Disney Poop? I talked to one lady delivering gifts and she said she didn't get it.....I think there were some thieves onboard!
Oh well, we had a great time........missing the beautiful ship, the tropical breezes and the fun friends!

Hi,
We got it and LOVED it! Clever and cute:rotfl: Thank you. I posted earlier about thanks, but I didn't give specifics - I probably should have. Everything was so great, and the kids were so excited everytime they found something in the FE. I show the Disney Poop and ornament to everyone I tell about the cruise, and they are impressed and wonder about how we got involved in all the extra fun:banana:

Hi!
We got the ornament and LOVE it:love: I couldn't wait 'til Christmas to put it up so it is hanging in our living room now. Everyone that has seen it thinks it is a great gift/ornament and I then tell them about the FE and it was a gift on the cruise. You did a great job making it :thumbsup2

Terri-
We got the scoop and got the poop :lmao:
My three granddaughters had so much fun going back to the suite and looking in the fish extender to see what had been left - great fun - thanks to everyone who played along :worship:
I envy all of you who are going back on the Magic soon - we decided to wait until the 1 year old granddaughter is about 4 or 5 to sail again so I'll just "wish upon a star" until then
Enjoy the rest of your summer:banana:
