Part 1 - History

Hi everyone :wave2:
I'm a little nervous this is my first hand at writing any
type of report so go easy on me!

Our cast:
Me - Traci (38, b-day 6/6, will be 39) They call me "T" at home.
Kevin - (45) My go-with-the-flow husband of 7yrs.
Nova - Perky and wise 6yr old. "Monkey Girl" or "Boo"
My Mom - (62) Don't want to sound mean, but she is a bit of a ditz!
My Dad _ (66) loves science,& war shows. We call him "Molecules" behind his back, of course.

Let's start with a bit of WDW history. Back in 1980 when I was 11 yrs old. My Grandparents set up a little bus tour, overnight trip to MK for me and my parents. that's all that was there at that time. The resorts were the Contempary, and the Poly. I think that was it. We were visiting my Grandparents in Margate,FL. We lived in NY, and never heard of WDW. WOW! was I suprised, that first gaze of the castle blew my mind. It was a hot August day, Mom came down with heat exhaustion by 2pm or so. She was very sick.

So the 3 of us head to the hotel, which was off-site, and it was a very seedy Best Western. That's all I'll say about the hotel. Dad declared, were not leaving the room. Anyway, I spent a total of 1 late morning, & an early afternoon in MK. Yippie! What a tease that was. I vowed someday I would do some real time there.

Fast Forward to so-called adulthood.
I booked a 10 day trip for Oct of 2000 for me and hubby. Only problem was, hubby and I weren't getting along so well those days. We split up 1 week before the trip, Disney was compassionate and I got back most of my money.

Re-married, had a brat, and booked a 6 night trip for Feb of 2004. One problem though. DD came down with a horrible ear infection 1 week before the trip. She was 2yrs old, and needed to have tubes inserted. Trip was cancelled 2 days before we were supposed to leave. Got my money back with a doctors note & went to DLR for a week the day after her surgery.

That was fun, but not my dream.

Part 2 - It finally Happens!

Off to WDW April 2007! Yea, goes off without a hitch!
Except the room had bedbugs and our luggage never came after 3 calls down to the bell desk. Midnight, after I marched down to the front desk at POR the luggage beat me back to the room.

Well, I learned a bit from that trip. Like, as soon as you get off the Magical Express drop your bags at bells and EAT FIRST! Then check in. Its a long day of travel from Vegas. Sandwiches that I packed for the plane just didn't cut it.

All in all it was awesome! Kevin was quiet the day we left. Very quiet. 2 hours into the flight home he leans into me and says, when are we going back? I really hadn't thought about that. I didn't think he would want to spend the cash again for another trip. I came back with, how about Feb 2009? Never again in April, it was to humid for us desert rats.

So here we go, the run down of our 10 night 11 day, February 2009 trip. My Parents invited this time. It was hard for them to watch us leave that April 2007 morn. After all, they do live with us!

Day 1 - Arrive, drink. that pretty much sums it up!

Day 2 - Sleep in (we like that), hang at the resort.
2PMish, head over to AK, Discovery Island only.
Check out AK Lodge, 6:30 Boma ADR.
Call it a night, jet-lag recovery!

Day 3 - Kevin golfs this day at Osprey Ridge.
Mom, Dad, Nova & me spend the day at DHS
with a 4:30 ADR at Prime Time cafe. Viewing of
Fantasmic. Ice cream back at AllStarMO.

Day 4 - Sleep in! Grab a bite in room or at World Premire
MK about 11am. 5:00 ADR @Crystal Palace.
Spectro & Wishes.

Day 5 - Sleep in. Get on bus about 11am over to World Showcase. 5:30 ADR Nine Dragons. Followed by
Beer & Illuminations.

To be continued.......

Thanks for Subbing! We had a great time back in April. Kevin golfed the Palm course, & we did the Luau at the Poly. Inspite of not so good reviews we had read, we had a great time!

Yea! Thanks Jordan. Glad to hear a plug for February.

Pretty much thats why I'm writing this so far out. I figured I would throw it out there and get some feedback on the time of the year & the ADR choices I made before I go and book. ;)

Yes, he loves to golf! We have to tote the clubs, & shoes. Actually I'm the one who ended up pulling the clubs in the travel case thru very crowded MCO When we visited in April. :headache: I'm only 5'4. It was a struggle!

Sleep in? You betca! It is a vacation after all.
We save comando for DL & Cali. Adventure.

April 22nd to 28th. I think its because we are not used to humidity at all.
temps were like 77 to 85 with about 80% humidity. :scared:

Whoa! That's a lot of popcorn.
Anywho. Sorry I'm asleep at the wheel. I haven't given any recent thought to my plans due to all that's been happening around here. there's been more than just Nova's eyesight problems. My schedule has just been slammed! When I get back in the groove I will elaborate my plans.

Just found out my cousin and his wife will probably drive down on the weekend and join us for a couple of days. I told him we already have a schedule for our trip. He said not to worry, they will just tag along with us.

Oh yea, I think we are changing resorts, again!! :rotfl: Now it looks like were going back to POR.

Were gonna book in Aug. And money for my parents is a factor. Seems like they can now afford to do 10 days at a Moderate. I realize they can stay at a value, but we want to all be together. That's why we are planning, and figuring things out so early. Also, my Dad wasn't too keen on the trip to begin with. Now he started to ask me what days are we doing what. So I came up with an itinerary to get him pumped up.

Dad is now reading a WDW guide book. :rotfl:

Popping in for a look-see. Some of my favorite DISers are here already!:goodvibes

We took a trip in the first week of Feb a few years back... stayed at POFQ (which we loved). The weather was great! Jeans & tee-shirts! It wasn't the greatest swimming weather, but I do recall getting at least one good sunny afternoon at the pool.

Looking forward to more,

Pre-warning-PhotoBucket wouldn't let me re-size. So the photos are huge! Don't know what's up. I kept getting IO error.

Anywho. Yes, there were bedbugs at POR. They were dead, but we weren't sleeping on dead bugs. I called down the the front desk and had a hard time with the agent. then I fought with the manager for about 20 minutes.

We were moved. I'm a fighter. sidenote: I have a holiday Inn story from San Diego, were I made the front desk clerk cry. Oh, and it was a dude.

Today I woke up the family and decided to get a new planning guide. Seems I need a little more help. I managed to drag along Mom and Nova to the opening of the new Boarders at Las Vegas Town Square.
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff231/GeminiAngel/LV%20Town%20Square%204-6-08/PictureTESTING012.jpg

I'm a little worried about Nova being the only young'in along on our vacation.
We will be 6 adults and Nova. Upon entering Boarders, Nova spots face painting. Yup had to get it done.
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff231/GeminiAngel/LV%20Town%20Square%204-6-08/PictureTESTING014.jpg

So, I leave Mom and Nova in the childen's section and venture out on my own to the travel section. Finally, I see it. Just what I need, and did not even know they had this version. The Unofficial Guide, with kids!
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff231/GeminiAngel/LV%20Town%20Square%204-6-08/PictureTESTING030.jpg

I'm really hoping to squeeze out some special extras for Nova. I already have the Wonderland tea planned. Now I'm seeing things like adventure cruises and a campfire at POR complete with smores! Maybe, time at Fort Wilderness for a pony ride. Not to mention I forgot about mini-golf.

I'll start reading tonight. Till then here's some photos from today's venture to LV Town Square.

Nova eats like a bird, most of the time we split meals when dining out. When vacationing we eat a big breakfast, nosh for lunch and have a fantastic dinner. That's how me and Kevin eat. I don't even bother to get Nova a kids meal. I think back to the last trip, trying to remember what we spent on meals. Age has gotten the best of me, I can't remember.

Today I talked to my Cousin's wife Barbara. She said they are on board for 1 week instead of just a weekend fling!:yay:
I now extended the invite to Jimmy's brother, Mike and their Dad. My Uncle Larry. Jimmy and Barbara are going to stay at All-Stars Movies. That's where we were supposed to stay.

Added to the cast:
Jimmy(37) & Mike(40) (hopefully): I'm an only child and grew up with these two. More like my brothers than cousins.

Uncle Larry(66) (hopefully): Has had a really rough decade after my aunt died from cancer. He can be a little uptight at times. I would love to watch him cut loose.

Barbara(44): The love of Jimmy's life! After a bad marriage, and two beautiful children. He finally found his soul-mate. She is one of the warmest people I have the honor of knowing.

Now this means we qualify for a Magical Gathering. Barb and I are looking at the Safari Adventure. Barb & Jimmy are getting their list of must do's together this weekend. We don't mind doing different things and meeting up where we can. We will try to dine together as much as we can.
Barb and I are looking forward to late nites together out on the town.
Just a couple of Nite-owls. :yay: [/COLOR]

I'll refer to Jimmy & Barbara as: J&B. Hee, Hee.

That's the screwed up part. Jimmy's ex-wife and the custody issues. We don't know if he can bring his kids yet. My fingers are crossed.
Mike the 41 yr old. Has NEVER had a girlfriend, much less kids. Something wrong there. Claims to be very shy, and has been to therapy. Didn't work.

:goodvibes Congrats on making it to Magical Gatherings status!:goodvibes I like the safari idea...and it includes a special character meet 'n greet meal, doesn't it?

I guess its called Grand Gatherings. Yes Kathy, we get a special visit from one of the characters on the dinner part after the safari. There's some other great choices too so I'm not sure if we will settle on the Safari. Here's the link:

Let me know if you've got any questions about travelling to WDW with large groups (other than ?? about Grand/Magical Gatherings, as I've not done these). I've travelled with 9, 13, 9, 14 and 9 all to WDW.

Hi Linnie!!!

Well I called my cousin. He said his dad was not interested in the whole thing. Mike dosen't know if he will come along. I said why the heck not? Mike said you are couples, I don't want to be the 3rd wheel. :sad1:

His fear of talking to women is going to ruin a great time for him.
I reminded him this is a Family trip. not a bunch of friends. Still, he's not sure.
Sorry I haven't posted, I was sad for him for a couple of days.

I'm always the 3rd wheel.....it's not that bad.

I can usually just hang out at ESPN...or go see a movie....or hangout...it's great....

I'm sad for your cousin too.

Mike and Uncle Larry have confirmed their decline. I talked to my Uncle, I got a thanks but no thanks.

Now I'm working on my Aunt Kathy & Uncle Ritchie, and cousin Melissa. They live in Sugarloaf Key, FL. The trip shouldn't be that hard for them since they are already in FL.

Sorry for the no posts. Its just I pretty much laid it out there until we can actually book! :rotfl: I've been lurking around looking at airfares from major carriers :scared1:!!!
We will be flying Southwest Airlines. I did a dummy price for the begining of Oct. and came up with something like $1076. That's not bad at all compared to the others.

No go on getting any more family to join. So much for our Grand Gathering.:sad2:
It will be:
Me
Kevin
Nova
Mom
Dad
Jimmy
Barbara

Welcome Kathleen!!, Thanks for joining my boring little report!

With the price of everything going up, up, up.
We decided to go with All-Star Movies for the 10 nights.
Now I shall throw a small fit.

I WANNA STAY AT POR!!! WHO CARES ABOUT THE MONEY!
I'LL HOCK MY DAUGHTER IF I HAVE TO!!!

Okay. Rant over. Can anyone sell me on All-Star Movies? I have a friend who stayed for 10 nights, and told us of the thin walls. So we are a little worried.

Tracy, you`ll be fine. POR is nice. but its a whole lot of walking! it will be easier to get around the ASMovies. we stayed at ASSports a the time before last. sept 06, its was okay. lots of photo ops with all the props..Nova will really enjoy it!

Subscribing so I don't lose your ptr. We are going in June 2009, and I would like to start a report, it's just so far away, that it doesn't make sense for me to start one now. So, I'll just read everyone else's report.:surfweb:

It's not where you stay, it's who you stay with. You didn't know I was so deep, did ya? :lmao:

I think you'll be fine. With all that walking and activity, you'll sleep so soundly at night that if the walls are thin, you won't wake up anyway. I never do!

The All Stars look like fun to me with all their themeing and stuff. It'll be fun!! Nova will love it!!

How's the kiddo's?

I thought about Nova getting a kick out of the theming and all. She will love it.

Update on her hair piece: Last week was 8 weeks since her head was measured. Last night I got a call from Hair Club on my machine.
Right now its 8:20am. I have to call at 9am. Can't wait!!!

It took no time at all to revamp our plans. I called the troops together and we brainstormed. Too bad our "storms" turn out to just be drizzles.:lmao:

Tue 2/3 - Arrive ASMo. Night Time options: DTD, Play in Arcade.

Wed 2/4 - Sleep! AK in the afternoon, Boma 5:30pm, Cab home.
Night Time options: Visit Boardwalk, Pleasure Island, Arcade

Thu 2/5 - Kevin Golf's Magnolia 10AM. Rest of us Relax in the AM.
Have lunch @Beaches n Cream then head over to EPCOT.
Biergarten 6pm (Kevin might join us).
Norway Bakery get some treats for the room. Bus home.
Night Time options: Arcade & Ice Cream @World Premiere.

Fri 2/6 - MK All day & night. Crystal Palace 5pm.
Main Street Bakery & Candy Shop, treats for the room.
Cab home.

Sat 2/7 - AK around 10AM. Cab to DTD for Fulton's Crab House 6:30pm
Nova Shops tonight, we drink. Bus home.

Sun 2/8 - DHS Early as we can. Bus to The Poly for O'Hana's 6pm.
Go see Grand Floridian & Water Pagent. Cab home.

Mon 2/9 - EPCOT 9am. Not sure where to have lunch yet. too many
great choices! Nine Dragons 6pm. Illuminations.
Cab home.

Tue 2/10 - Head back to Vegas. :(

Its a bit more packed than the 10 day schedule, of course. So Mom & Dad are going to break when needed. Some days like MK, AK, DHS they might join us later. I informed J & B of the changes. They are still not sure when exactly they are going to join us. I'm guessing Fri, Sat, Sun. J & B just moved to Maryland and will be driving down to WDW.

OMG! I just looked back and saw the post I had written out after my "can't wait to book" post never made it to the thread!

We had to cut the trip down to 7 nights instead of 10 because Kevin's Dad is having lots of debt problems. He has very advanced cancer, thru his whole body now. He is way behind on his pharmacy bills and other things too. I found out he's only taking his med's every other day!:(
We sent him a huge check to catch him up.

We were gonna cancel the trip altogether, but realized we could squeek out 7 nights.

I am a light sleeper and we stayed at the toy story building (on the woody side) bottom floor and I didn't hear anything. Everything is so close here (I haven't stayed anywhere else to compare to) but it didn't take us 5 minutes to walk from the bus stop to our room (loved it late at night). I would so love to stay at the Polly on day, but Disney is Disney no matter where you stay. YOu will have a great trip no matter what
