Schoolgirl Shannon Matthews has been found alive and well 24 days after she disappeared.
Police smashed their way into a flat in Batley Carr and emerged carrying Shannon, neighbours said.
The young girl looked "quite calm" and officers confirmed that she was fine.
A local resident said: "One of my neighbours heard banging. When he went outside, police were breaking the door down - the man wouldn't come out so they broke in.
"Apparently they found her in bed. He said she was quite calm. Police carried her out.
"My neighbour asked, 'is it Shannon?" and the policeman just said, 'yes' and said she was OK."

That is really wonderful as she'd been gone quite a while and so often these things have an unhappy ending... :)

Fantastic news-the latest is a 39yr old man has been arrested-apparantly he is a relative of Shannon's step-father.Shannon was actually found concealed inside the base of a divan bed, with the man at the side of the bed in the upstairs bedroom.Police are not saying what 'state' she is in and have told reporters to stop saying she has been found 'well' (as in alive+well) until a thorough examination has been done+she has been spoken to.x.

Thanks for that, I did wonder if all was OK as she wasn't given straight to her parents, I really hope she is OK!

Hi,
She still has'nt been handed back to her mum(as of the 9pm news) the police have issued a 'protection order' on her.Now what the reporter said of that was 'it means she is in there custody until she has been carefully interviewed+been examined',for her own safety-that bit i don't understand.
Her mum+step-dad were taken to the station to be reunited with her.
I personally think(my own opinion)that this protection order was put into place because the man who was arrested is related to the step-dad.x.

Me too, it just seems strange that she's been taken into care, I wonder why she hasn't gone home - how sad

I think that too & I also think they want to make sure the step dad had nothing to do with it.
I'm glad she has been found alive & hope that she wasn't harmed.

I live about 3 miles from Shannon's house. Don't want to start posting things I am not sure about but there has been every kind of rumour circulating locally since she went missing. Its all been a bit strange from day one. Hope they find the truth and sort it all out.
Hoping for better publicity for our area now, its not long since our neigbours were part of the London bombings, one of them lived just a few 100 yards from us.

I could not believe the news when I got home late last night, after such a long time that she has been found is marvelous. I hope and pray that she was unharmed in any way. It does seem strange that she was not immediatley re-united with her family and lets hope that is just the authorities being cautious.

I have to admit I have watching this story unravel and have felt uneasy about the whole situation.
I am glad she has been found but something doesnt lie straight with me. Very odd and Im glad she is under protection so she can speak openly and cant be told what to say or be put under any pressure to not tell the truth.
Lets hope her step father wasnt involved,or anyone else for that matter.

On the news it has just been said that the parents have been interviewed several times, Shannon is still in care. It all seems a bit odd :sad2:
