A friend is in Orlando and Purchased a timeshare at Westgate Lakes. She told me she purchased a particular week but was told that she can go ANY week as long as calls in advance.
She also told me a that some meals are included with this timeshare.
I am wondering now if she was misled by Westgate because I never heard of meals being included with a timeshare purchase? TIA

If she bought directly from Westgate and can still recind she should do so. She can always get a better deal by buying "resale" than from the actual resort. Have her go to www dot tugbbs dot com (my post count is too low to post a link) as soon as she can, she'll be able to find out tons of information about buying timeshares there.

There is almost a 100% chance she was either lied to or mislead by the salesperson.

Thanks. Thats what I was thinking too. How could meals be included? Ugh, I had warned her before she left and told her if she wanted to preview to go to Marriot, I went last year and they were VERY nice and not pushy at all...

Most DIS'ers will say "run, don't walk" away from Westgate.

Most DIS'ers will say "run, don't walk" away from Westgate.

They have a few free breakfasts and a couple light lunch parties, like hot dogs or barbecue. Nothing to get excited over, and not worth a lot of money. Resales can be had for pennies on the dollar. Your friend should cancel the contract immediately. There are tons of owners desperate to sell weeks they can no longer afford. Tell her to go on eBay and see for herself.

Thanks everyone. I finally talked some sense into her and she is cancelling. She says that she really wants to buy one so she is looking into resales.

My DH and I are Westgate owners since 2005. We bought ours at a resale place in Branson Mo. It is a three bedroom every other year at the Lakes. We toured the villas in 03, and toured Liki Tiki then too. Wasn't impressed with Liki Tiki. Glad to have made the purchase of the Lakes in 05. We use it many different ways to get two trips instead of one. Like this year in March (next week in fact 3/23 - 3/29) we will use a studio for us and plan on doing all we can at WDW. Then since we split the three bedroom up, we can use two more stuidos or a two bedroom. We're using the two bedroom in June and plan on taking my parents to Myrtle Beach.

I have no problems with Westgate and even found out that at certain resorts we can bring along our modded off-road golf cart to cruise the property when we aren't at theme parks or other venues.

That's just my $.02

I also own at the lakes am very happy with it except for the maintenance fees that keep going up and i am not seeing much improvements to justify the increase.
