We are at the 3 mo, 14 day mark, and I just have to start writing a pre-trippie! I'm getting Spring Fever, and one of the ways I know to harness the excitement of a pending Disney trip, is to start writing! :cloud9:
As you may have noticed in the title, a ship was involved, and then NOT!
Our 2008 vacation plans began about 18 mos. ago, when our oldest DS24 and DDIL came home from their honeymoon in the World and DCL to the Eastern Caribbean and said we should ALL go in 2008 - ALL meaning DH and I, DS24 and DDIL26 along with DS23, DDIL23 and DGS3. The plan was to cruise before the girls had any more babies :rolleyes1
So Feb 2007 I booked an alternate Western for all of us, sail date Sept 27, 2008, 3 cabins close together - "Double Dip" and everything!   We had so much fun with our planning - we assumed DS23 and DDIL23 would be just about to start their Masters in Education year and everything would be great..... well, planning that far in advance does have its share of surprises!
First, our family has been blessed with two new babies - DGS,10mo to DS24, and DGD,7mo to DS23! Of course I am :cloud9: !
Second, we learned that school would not work out for DS23 and DDIL23! So they decided they wouldn't be cruising with us. :sad2: We were so disappointed. DGS,3 had been talking about "going on the big boat, see Mickey!" already. How could we disappoint him?
Well, DH, being the best "papa" ever, decided that we would "see Mickey!" So we made a reservation for DLH on June 29th - my birthday - using our DVC points!! :woohoo: DGS has forgotten all about the boat, but not about the mouse! We'll have 4 days in a Disney park for my birthday!!! Then we'll stop at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom for July 4th on the way home!
Third, with job changes and budget challenges for DS24, we have now changed our DCL to an all-inclusive in Puerta Vallarta! We are still very excited to be vacationing on the beach together - we will have to plan a cruise for ALL of us again sometime!
So, with the background information posted, I'll introduce the cast for our DL trip:
Me, 48, Cinderella - Disney obsessed grandma, who was Disney deprived as a child and loves to make up for it every chance I get.
DH, 46, Jiminy - the world's best papa who "grew up" at DL and lives to make me happy.
DS23 - Goofy - fun loving, working hard to finish school and really needs a break!
DDIL23 - Tink - great mommy, wonderful DIL, and also working really hard!
DGS3 - Donald - Smart, handsome, (watch that temper! ) has a great sense of humor and fun and loves Disney Channel, and can't wait to meet the mouse!
DGD7mo - Minnie - Beautiful of course! Laughs easily, and will probably love all of the kiddie rides at 11mo! We are having a blast planning her vacation wardrobe!
I plan to post our vacation plans here with all of the pre-obsessing that makes the planning fun - DH just doesn't get that part :lovestruc It won't be quite like the world, because there's not much for ADRs, etc., but I hope I don't bore my readers while providing an outlet for my Disney obsession!
Thanks for coming on our ROAD TRIP!!!!

I don't have any trips planned around that time so I should be around.
Sorry about no cruises. I would like to go back on a cruise, but wouldn't want to go by myself. So I'm waiting for Derek and Wendy to go back...However, they just did the Mediterranean DCL this past summer. So, I don't see a DCL cruise until 2010....:sad2:

I hope you get someone to cruise with you again soon - Jim's uncle in Anaheim talked about sailing with all of us on the new ship sailing in 2011 - for his daughter's HS graduation - so that might be our next. I looked at a 3 or 4 day to add to our trip next year, but the cost for a short cruise doesn't make sense when compared to a 7 day - hard for me to do.

Hi everyone - thanks to all who have joined me in my PTR excitement! I am really feeling ready to take off today! It is windy and cold - some snowflakes today - I need some :sunny: badly!
So today, DDIL and I decided to channel our excitement by planning our days at DLR. We don't want to "commando" especially with little ones, but we wanted to know what the babies can go on, and have a general idea of what we can do. Our plan is to do everything we can with Donald, and then find a little "adult time" during naps and bedtimes - taking turns with that - whatever we can get in, we will!
**Two things I definitely want to do - get a DOLE WHIP, and ride DUMBO*** These are two things I wanted to do at WDW last Summer and didn't get to. Dumbo I have never done. Just want to do the classic.
**One thing Jiminy wants to do - ride TOT ** - he missed it last year at WDW and the year before at CA.
So, our plan for the first two days:
Sunday, June 29th - My Birthday!
Arrive 12:00pm - check-in
Lunch - DTD
Grocery Store for breakfast items & snacks
Naptime for Donald and Minnie
6:00 p.m. - Dinner - Goofy's Kitchen
DTD- Build-A-Bear
Monday, June 30th - Disneyland
8:00 - Toontown Madness
-Mickey and Minnie houses
-Chip-N-Dale's Treehouse
-Roger Rabbit
-Gadget's Go Coaster
***Fantasyland**
- Peter Pan
-Dumbo
(Jiminy runs for FP to Buzz Lightyear)
- Mad Tea Party
- Buzz
12:00 - Lunch - Club Buzz
(FP for Space Mountain?)
1:00 - Nappie time for Donald and Minnie
(Jiminy and Cinderella do Space Mountain and Indiana Jones )
3:30 - head for Aladdin show at CA
5:00 - Dinner - Joe's Crabshack
7:00 - Back to Fantasyland? Swim?
- Pinocchio's Daring Journey
- Storybookland Canal Boats
- Carousel
9:00pm - Bedtime for babies
(Tink and Goofy to Disneyland?)
It seems like our plan is a little ambitious, but we have found that getting there for rope drop affords you alot of time to "get things done" early and then relax later.
Any thoughts???

Tammie - Your plans look great! Since your grandkids are still young - I agree, it's a good idea to plan things as early as you can. Those babies certainly like to get up with the sun, don't they? Might as well take advantage of it!
And -- Dumbo -- it's a MUST-DO for us every trip also!

DH and i want to do a trip where we go to yellowstone and then drive down the california coast and of course DL will be involved in that! i want to wait until we have a child though because i hear DL is great for kids. :thumbsup2

Yes, they do get up with the sun! I was thinking since the DLH is walking distance, we should be able to come back and forth without too much time wasted - good for nappie time. We have actually been to DL quite a bit - DH has an uncle in the Anaheim area who is our age - we visit them almost every year and DL is usually part of the vacation! I never get tired of it - it is different than WDW for sure.

i've actually read that and it was part of the inspiration for the trip! DH has always wanted to go to yellowstone. i added the california coast part. i figured it's doable if we plan it well. that's WAY off in the future so i've got plenty of time!

April will be a fun time to be there! Don't forget a light jacket - it may still be a little breezy in the morning and evenings.
There are alot of fun restaurants on S Harbour as well as W Katella, I believe - there aren't so many TS type places at DL. I love Joe's Crabshack, if you haven't been! It's on S Harbour, past Orangewood. We walked there from the convention center - took about 10 min.

Hey Tammie!
Your plans are coming together! I love how you've scheduled time to get a Dole Whip! Can you believe, I'm been going to WDW for 10 years and have yet to get one of those. I keep saying one of these days, I have to try the Dole Whip and a turkey leg - they seem like the "Disney" thing to do! Although, I think the Dole Whip is alot less scarier!:scared:

I have been so busy thinking about the Disneyland part of our vacation, that I forgot about the other fun and maybe not so fun parts of our trip!
Our full itinerary:
Fri, June 27th - 4pm
- pile in the mini-van, 3yr old, 11mo old and four adults! If any of you have read Jiminy's Girl's TR - I wanted you to know I will be hiding all of the cameras during this part of the trip - I don't want my DIL to take pics of "grandma snoring in the van!" :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
- 10PM - arrive at Stockton, check in at LaQuinta
Sat, June 28th - 7am
- leave for Bakersfield - visit with DB and DSIL. They are invited to join us at DL - don't know if they will.
-Staying at Marriott
Sun, June 29th - Wed, July 2 - DLR
Thurs, July 3rd - 10am - leave for Vallejo
- 4pm - check in at Marriott
Fri, July 4th - day at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom:yay:
- big roller coasters for Goofy, Tink and Jiminy
- Grandma on baby duty :lovestruc
- visit the animals with the kiddies
Sat, July 5th - 8am - head for home (6 hrs):sad2:
We are really looking forward to Six Flags! We took our boys there when they were small - it was Marine World, Africa USA then. They got to feed the giraffes by hand and there was a great acquarium! Now they have rides and animals!

Anyways I never really knew about Dole Whips until I joined the DIS. And I've been to DL many many times growing up. Anyways the first time we saw the line for the Whips, my DD14 and I thought it was for the Tiki Room. So I asked some people in line what it was for. "Dole Whips" they said. Huh??? I looked at my DD and said "They must be good to wait in a line like this." So we waited, and guess what? It is now a must do on every trip for us. That is all she talks about when we go. We have to leave room for a Whip.

We watched the fireworks from DTD in 2006 - they had the music piped in - it was beautiful! We are hoping to ask for a view of DTD so we can watch from our balcony- we have a suite so we have to request the view when we get there - maybe they will accomodate us since it's my birthday! With the little ones, fireworks will be too late, but when we take turns with our adult time we might see them. DH gets really freaked out by the lack of crowd control at DL during fireworks and parades. It is alot more controlled at MK.
We are going to see Aladin on day 2. Have you seen it?
Hey! We'll wave at you when we drive by - you are lucky to live so close to the House of Mouse! Have a nice Easter!

We just watched "Enchanted" tonight for the first time - it was really fun! I really loved the chipmunk :lovestruc
So DDIL and I have been looking at all of the designs on the DISign boards. We wanted to make matching family T-shirts for the first day of our trip. There are so many cute designs that we will probably have matching or themed T-shirts for all 3 days in the park! For the 1st day, we will all have our fav characters with a Mickey head. Because we don't believe in having our children's names on their clothing, making them vulnerable to "stranger danger," we are going to go with: Papa, Gramma, Mommy, Daddy, (Buzz or Donald), and Minnie :

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb317/rumblytumbly_bucket/Customized%202/citarellatink.jpg
These are just a couple of examples - you get the idea.
We also like these 3-D examples for another day, maybe adding some polka-dot ribbon for the girls!

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb317/rumblytumbly_bucket/Customized%202/minnieheadbowbarry.jpg
And then we have the sports-nuts and princesses!
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb317/rumblytumbly_bucket/Customized%202/chipdale2008.jpg

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb317/rumblytumbly_bucket/Customized%202/baseballTEAMBANKS.jpg
These are only a few of the DISigns we are considering - we need more days to wear more shirts!!! Now I truly am a Disney Geek!!! What surprises me is that my DDIL had the idea, and she isn't a Geek - she was a cheerleader - and my whole family is excited to wear the shirts! I am converting my DIS family!
I need to get online and make our motel reservations for our coming and going!

Now, I'm creatively-challenged, so answer me this: When you decide on a design you like, do you just click on it and print it onto a iron-on paper? Where do they sell that type of paper? And then, do you just use undershirts to iron them on to?
Don't know if I can convince my 12yr.old to dress like me - but I'd like to try!

Okay, I'm creatively challenged, too! You can find tons on the DISign boards. Kara gave me the link, http://s205.photobucket.com/albums/bb317/rumblytumbly_bucket/, (thanks, Kara!) and then I opened the
designs I wanted, copied and pasted them to My Pictures. My DDIL is going to do the rest - I don't know how to change the writing, but apparently, you send the design to Microsoft Paint, then remove the name that is there and write the names you want in there. You can download Walt Disney script. I can send you the file, if you want.
Here's another suggestion: You can join a thread of a DISigner you like and ask them for the names, and viola! It appears on the thread for you to copy and paste.
The transfer paper can be purchased at Staples or at the fabric store. You can just use undershirts, or plain T-shirts, whatever. I have read that you don't iron it on your ironing board - not hard enough. Use a cutting board with a pillow case over it and NO STEAM!
I'm going to use a t-shirt with a little thicker material that includes spandex or lycra. I just like wearing that fabric better. My DDIL wants one of those thin ones that the kids like these days.
You should try to make the shirts - it would be fun! If you get them done, post some pics! :thumbsup2

I couldn't believe it! I thought we would end up paying about $20 per night, but they gave a great military discount! My vouchers are for $100 a piece with no change back. At one place, I will have about $11.00. Hopefully they have one of those little snack coolers with some wine or something. I might as well use it all, right?

my DSIS told me to melt the crocs :rotfl2: They do look funny on everyone! They have some really cute sandals and even dressy ones, now too! The only time my legs hurt last year was the day I wore my tennies. I've heard good things about the Teva, too!
I bought a pair of crocs flip flops last year though - the piece in between my toes was so big, that it rubbed all the skin off my first two toes and even on the ball of my foot in one trip to the pool. Needless to say, I haven't worn those again.

They are pretty sure they want to fly now. :rotfl2: I reminded them that we have the trip broken up quite well, and flying would be $2000 more than driving, and we would have to skip Six Flags. They seem to think we can fly here to John Wayne to San Fran and back to here for the same price as round trip. I don't think so.... I'll let you know what we decide. This was supposed to be a budget trip because we already had the cruise turned Puerta Vallarta booked.... :rolleyes1

Okay, actually it was DS who was quite frazzled by his little family - DDIL and I feel we'll be okay - so after investigating, we could fly SW pretty reasonably, and use the vouchers for a suite at the Courtyard there at the convention center for the last two nights, but the clincher is, to get affordable flights, we would have to DRIVE 5 hrs each way.
We got him convinced that driving 5 hrs to fly 3 hrs, spend $1000 more, plus rent a car really wasn't worth it - score one for the girls! :dance3: So we're still with our original plan!

I called my DB in Bakersfield yesterday - we plan to spend the 28th with them and BBQ, swim, catch up. Then, they may pull their RV down and stay near DL and tour with us! They have two adorable little boys - actually 9 and 11, but small for their ages - we would love to have them come with us - provided they can put up with all the "tiny tot" stuff we're doing! :thumbsup2
I went online and ordered DH some new running shoes today - he'll probably wear them in the park. I ordered some new TEVA sandals and flip flops to trade off with my crocs. I'll post pics when they get here!
Have a great week, everyone! I'm off to Atlanta for a convention on Tuesday - going to a roaring 20s party - I'll post a pic of my costume!

Thanks Cammie. We aren't that excited about the restaurants in the parks as we are at WDW, so the only ADR we'll be making - at the 60 day mark is for Goofy's Kitchen the first night! I'm going to ask DB if they will be joining us before I call. There are alot of fun places to eat dinner on the two streets surrounding the resort area, so we are going to check those out:
Joe's Crab Shack
Mimi's
Cheesecake Factory

On your first Disneyland day, what time does the park open? You really should plan to hit Fantasyland first at park opening, do Dumbo and then Peter Pan, Tea Cups.

I'm at work, but I had to edit because about half way to work it hit me that I had made a very embaressing error in what I was talking about this morning.

Yeah! I'd love you to think this through with me. Don't get in trouble at work. The only thing is - I think Toon Town usually opens an hour after the park - so we'd need to be both places at once - I might have to talk DDIL into switching the times - I don't think the lines in Toon Town are as long? :confused3

:confused3 That doesn't sound right. Toontown usually opens and hour after the park does, except on it's Morning Madness days, that you have to have tickets for, then it opens an hour earlier.
I would not try to do Fantasyland and Toontown Morning Madness on the same day. Especially since you want to do Dumbo.
I forget, and I'm to lazy to go back and look, are you guys staying at a Disney hotel or do you have 3 day or more park hoppers? Then you will get at least one Magic Morning which is when you should aim to do Fantasyland.

Yes, then Toon Town opening will be the same as the park opening. Do Minnie and Mickey's houses first, then the roller coaster, and then Roger Rabbit. Explore everything else as needed.

You would get one MM with the 3 day park hopper, but by staying at DLH you are eligible for MM every morning it's offered during your stay. Plan on doing Fantasyland during a MM morning. I believe the monorail does run early on those days, but I'm not positive.

I think it's definately one to ride at least once and say you did :) You'll have to do DLR some time! You will recognize most of the rides from WDW - all in two parks, plus a few that aren't out there. Overall, I find the rides at DL to be longer and better, but the feeling is quite different from the World. You have to appreciate each park separately, I think.

Mostly bumping here, but we did a shirt for a neighbor girl last night and it turned out really cute, so I know we're ready to do ahead with our shirt plans!
I want to relay the story - it is so sweet. Kelsey is my friend's daughter - just turned 13. She and three other girls have been friends with Amy, who has Down's Syndrome, all through school. They have been her lifeline when other kids were mean. Anyway, Amy's parents surprised the girls last Friday by telling them that they are taking all 4 of them to Disneyland to celebrate Amy's 13th birthday, and as a thank you for being so nice to Amy! They got a character call from Crush to announce the trip! Kelsey has only been to DL for a day as a small child - she called me right away because she was so excited and she knew I would be excited for her!
It's so nice to see a child get rewarded for just doing the right thing.
Thanks for reading.

Hi Cammie! Yes, it is the Mickey head design with a character next to it. We did Pooh for Kelsey with her name in the middle and 08 in one ear.
It turned out good, but it was a transfer for "light" t shirts and this one was red. We didn't realize there was a difference until last minute, so just went with it. Kelsey's name was red, but the yellow on Pooh was a little orange - looked okay in the sunlight.
The shirts are really easy - let me know if you decide to do them, I'll send you in the right direction.

We could always add 4 more - we'll see what happens! Anyway, I'm excited to have my :bday: at Goofy's Kitchen! :dance3:

Hi, Which airport is best (cheapest) to fly into for Disneyland?
MAGICFOR2
05-09-2008, 09:48 PM
Yeah! A poster! I thought I'd already lost my audience! :goodvibes
Alot of posters have said that Ontario is the cheapest - it's about a 45 min drive when there is not much traffic. Mon-Fri from 5am - 10am and from 4pm - 7pm are not the right times to be driving anywhere if you can help it. LAX is a total nightmare IMHO.
We always fly in to John Wayne International in Orange County. It is about 20 min from Disneyland, and it's where our family always wants to pick us up. The traffic is usually not too bad from there.
There is apparently a Disneyland shuttle you can pay for if staying on-site, you can get it at either LAX or JW.
BTW, I read your TR, I was just so late to the party, I didn't comment - looks like you guys had a crazy time and you're planning to go again? Or are you thinking DL next time?

:cool1: :cool1: Got our tax returns, so we'll be purchasing our Park Hoppers this weekend. We can save $30 each off the gate price at disney.com. That is about the best discount we can find.($159) Once TA had them for $154, so I think I'd rather just deal with Disney.
We're also going to work on our shirts this weekend! I'll post pics when we get them done! Feels like we're getting close!

Wow,, $100  That's great! We only come out there every other year. Once we get on our own schedule again, we could work it so we come toward the beginning of one year and the end of another so we could use the AP....
I'm thinking once they get the GCV done, we will be able to get better deals. They have a one time discount on AP out here, so I think I'll save it until a year I know I'll be back - we are doing WDW and Vegas probably back to back next year.

Hi, we had our planning meeting last night and I have a new ticker...lol
:woohoo: Yeah for a new ticker!!!
Where are good places to eat nerby offsite?
There are lots of places on Harbor - short drive, or 20min walk.
I'm trying to remember all I saw in October - we ate at Joe's Crab Shack, but I saw an Outback Steakhouse, I'll have to think about it some more. Jordan will probably chime in - he gave me some suggestions, too!
He said there is a P.F. Changs, Cheesecake Factory (my fav) - at the Gardenwalk. I'm not sure where that part is, but I think it's on the Ball Road side. There is also MiMis Cafe (Yumm - hometown cookin') , IHOP, McDonald's, Tony Roma's.
Okay, now here is a tip for a great Italian meal - different, cheap with huge servings! If you have a "night off" from the parks - head to Ontario - remember, I said it was one of the choices to fly into. Anyway, eat at Vince's. It is a mom and pop Italian place that is really simple and really good! It is kind of like the "soup nazi" on Jerry Seinfeld! :lmao: They don't take ressies, and they serve "dinner" for at last visit, $8.99. That includes Minestrone soup or salad with fresh grated mozerella, Cheesy bread, Spaghetti with meat sauce, meat balls and marinara, or plain marinara OR Mastacolli with the same sauces. They also have meatball sandwiches. That's all - either you want it or you don't! :rotfl2: They are always busy, and it is THE best red sauce we've ever had!!!! They sell the jars of sauce and the soup (which is delish also). They are famous around there, so they sell hats and T-Shirts, too!
So There you have my best imitation of a food critic! :goodvibes
Happy Planning!

More excitement for me today! I opened the mailbox and there was a brand new copy of Disney Files, the DVC magazine in the box!!!! Of course I dropped everything to read it cover to cover..... there was lots of Disneyland news!
1. Because of the new Indiana Jones movie, (which by the way, we saw last night - fun! ), they are temporarily removing Aladdin and Jasmine in Adventureland and will have an Indiana Jones feature - photo ops and maps with clues, character visits.
2. Indiana Jones enhanced scenes on Jungle Cruise
3. "Random acts of Indy" can unfold at any time?????
4. New monorail cars, Mark VII have started running!
5. Toy Story Mania descriptions were included - it will be open when we get there!
6. A new California dream home is being built - with innoventions type technology for the dream home of the future - a family rotates through the house interacting with guests and demonstrating a "digital lifestyle." Not sure what the projected opening is.
There's lots of news on things coming up for WDW, too - that's what I love about Disney - always changing!

Thanks Cammie! We got the tanks at Walmart -DDIL has a really long torso, so these were long like she wanted them. We were a little worried about ironing on top of the ribbing, but it worked fine. She'll just have to be careful not to stretch the front too much.

Hi! I'm glad you're here - I posted a reply earlier and then the DIS went down and I lost it all. Here is the link to RumblyTumbly's design site on photobucket. The baseballs are under Sports:

RumblyTumbly is kind enough to share. I believe she will customize for you on the DISign board. My DDIL copied and pasted to Microsoft Paint, then put in the 08, then made the Team Manfull tag and added it to the design. She copied it to Word so we could print it on T-shirt transfers. Be sure to use dark transfers for anything other than white, because the background shows through on light Transfers.
Have fun designing and come back! I'll visit your TR, too!

I was just looking over our trip plans and I see a change to make. We'll be staying in Merced at Springhill Suites, as Donald is dying to go to a Chuck E Cheese, and there happens to be one in Merced! We are thinking that we'll leave town around noon, and it will be good to have "a destination" every night - "today we're driving to Chuck E Cheese - its far far away!" will make the 5 hr drive easier for a 3 yr old! We hope.
The Bakersfield day we will look forward to him seeing his little cousins, and the next day we're driving to Disneyland!

Congrats, Bloodhound! It's always good when you get your plans settled! I think you'll like John Wayne - it's much simpler than LAX.
US rocks in LA - not so much in Orlando! You'll have to post a pic on Jurassic Park! Love SW - heard great things about the Zoo, but haven't done it yet.
Since you're out exploring, Medieval Times is great in LA - not so much in Orlando - it's about 30-40 minutes away from Anaheim - not sure where - I wasn't driving! :rotfl2:
There's also a new Pirate dinner show near there too, but we haven't tried it yet.

Today we are wondering how well Donald will like the rides at Disneyland! Our itinerary may have a few holes in it - we went to the carnival this afternoon, and he had a rough time :( First he went on the little Dumbo-like airplanes with Mommy - at first he timidly smiled, then he laughed when the planes went up - after they dipped one time, he cried the whole time.
Next, he went on a tiny, slow roller coaster with Mommy - he cried the whole time. Then we went in an enclosed car on a small ferris wheel. He sat on Daddy's lap - Mommy and I were across from them. He hugged Daddy's neck the whole time, crying and screaming. Not sure what he'll like at DL :confused3
Tink says she is going to have him try the small kid stuff even if he cries, and maybe with the theming and everything he will start to have fun - should be interesting.
This Winter he had a great time sledding on a big hill, so we didn't think the kiddie rides would be a problem.

Sorry you didn't get to go. When are you moving?
Since you don't have kids yet, I would say Early September, right after school starts, on Mon-Thurs. We were there on a Monday at that time a few years ago and everything was a walk on most of the day - at one time we were the only ones on the teacups - almost too empty, it felt funny! The weather was really nice - not hot, not cold, just sunny :daisy:
Okay, I just remembered I may be wrong - All of the above is true, however all of the "mountains" were closed for refurbishing, and HM was closed to decorate for "Nightmare before Christmas" for October. I didn't know about the DIS then. You may want to check the main pages or the Disney website to be sure that isn't happening again before you make your plans!
If so, I would say on weekdays the middle of Oct could still be really nice - you'd like the Halloween theme - although it might rain.
Another good time to go is early December. There are Holiday decorations up and the Christmas parade, but the weather is still nice - you might need jeans and a light jacket, but not bad. There is a break between Holiday crowds at that time.

Hi Tammie - just checking in.
I'm so sorry Donald had a hard time at the amusement park. Like a pp mentioned, hopefully once he gets engulfed in the whole Disney atmosphere, he feel a little more adventurous.
The first time we went, younger DD was 2 1/2. Our first day at MK, she was only interested in riding the carousel and river boat, and playing at Mickey & Minnie's house; stuck to my side during the whole Dumbo ride - wouldn't even look! We had an 8 day trip ahead of us and I was determined to get her on some rides. She was even afraid of the pool at OKW - too big and overwhelming! For our second day at MK, what really helped was getting her on a ride that had a story going on. We got her on IASW; I talked to her the whole time and was constantly pointing out different things in the scenery. She was distracted about being on the ride (plus singing the song helped also!) We then ventured onto Peter Pan - same thing. I just kept her attention on the scenery and singing the song and she was fine with it. After "conquering" those two rides, she was quite proud of herself and gained some confidence. She wanted to tackle the Tea Cups. She didn't mind those because they were outside and she could control the spinning(on the other hand, we were now dealing with Mommy having a problem on the ride!:faint: ) Once she did the teacups, she was good to go on Dumbo again and enjoyed it. Now, each year we've gone back, she worked up the courage to do more and more!
I'll keep my fingers crossed it works out for all of you!

We now have 14 DAYS!!!
Our excitement is a little bit tempered by the fact that we have Goofy and Tink graduating from college tomorrow, and a huge party at our house, so our Disney prep will have to take place next week!
I have an update. My parents decided to go to my DBs house in Bakersfield the same week we are there - and they don't want to do DL! Can you imagine? :confused3 Since they live close, my DB has decided not to come to DL either. They will be at US the next week for my nephew's birthday. So, it's back to the 6 of us for Goofy's kitchen!
Okay, here is a pic of our shirts for our Favs day shirts:

Tammie - I love the colors you used for the new shirts. They look so good!
I promise to have my shirts (all of two) made this weekend; still searching for a good v-neck sleeveless. May just wind up back at WalMart or Target. I don't have the time to make this a huge production!

I got the designs from rumblytumbly:

Then Tink brought them over to Paint and put our names in. We bought the shirts at Walmart and printed the designs on shirt transfers! Our favorite is the Mickey head baseball ones - they say "Team Manfull" under the baseball design.

Hey Tammie! What day is your birthday? Are you actually there on your birthday?
Mine is July 18th and I was highly encouraged by two DISers on the food porn thread that I should celebrate my birthday when I go - even though it's three weeks early. I feel kind of weird but then figured, this is as close as I'm ever going to get to being there on my birthday!
You're leaving on the day I get back, and I'm sure we'll chat on our other thread before I leave, but I just wanted to wish you guys a GREAT trip! Thanks for all your help with my shirts and I look forward to sharing pictures when we both get back!

We had a scare this morning - DS24, who is not going with us had symptoms that sounded like an appendicitis. We thought we may have to delay leaving to be sure he was okay if he had to have surgery. :scared1: We started planning where we could find another Chuck E Cheese for Donald, etc. Well, it turns out he has an intestinal virus that is giving him the pain, so we are still good to go! :thumbsup2

We're back and had a few not so unexpected surprises along the way, but we had a great trip and made some wonderful family memories! I have alot of pics, so I'll post those along the way. I always feel like DL gets no respect on the DIS, so I want to post alot of pics and explain some differences from WDW as I go along - I hope my memory won't fail me!
We pulled out of our driveway, packed to the roof in our minivan, with Papa and Gramma in the front, Donald and Minnie in the middle two seats, and Mommy and Daddy in the back. We left 1/2 hour early at 11:30am - with Grumpy taking a half day off from work.
In Oregon, we don't pump our own gas, we have attendants. So, in California we had to pump:
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z248/MAGICFOR2/July%2008%20Vacation/4fb5eeb6.jpg
We had an appointment with a mouse that night, but it wasn't Mickey - it was Chuck. Chuck E. Cheese:
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z248/MAGICFOR2/July%2008%20Vacation/7acbd7fd.jpg
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z248/MAGICFOR2/July%2008%20Vacation/c1737c0e.jpg
Okay, now the reason for the title on my update. If you remember, prior to leaving we took Donald and Minnie to the carnival for a test run, which was very frightening to Donald.
Now Donald anticipated this Chuck E Cheese visit for a long time. All day in the car he said, "Papa, Chuck E Cheese is far far away!" "Papa, it takes a long time to get there." So when we arrived, we excitedly purchased a package with pizza and drinks and 100 tokens - we were ready to play!!!!!
OOPS! Donald was not going on anything that moved! He didn't want to climb into any little cars or trucks, trains...anything. He did, however, want to play the video games and collect tickets. Tickets get you prizes. Minnie was ready to ride. She laughed and clapped, and then was upset when we took her off. This was to be a pattern throughout our trip.
We finished our pizza and got our little prizes and we were off to bed.
The next day, we stopped in Bakersfield to see my DB and DSIL with my nephews, and my parents were there visiting too! We had a nice BBQ and pool party/birthday party for me. My camera somehow lost the pics that I took of my DB. We went to our hotel and were too excited to sleep - tomorrow was our big day with the MOUSE!!!!
Next: Lots of Disneyland Hotel Pics!

Hey! Thanks for stopping by! It is a small world, which by the way is down for repairs Ha! I'm excited for you that you'll be at the Happiest Place on Earth real soon! There are lots of fun new things to see and do. Just in case I don't get there soon enough:
1. Nemo is fun, but no FP, so do it as soon as the park opens one day.
2. Skip Innoventions - terrible waste of time and space
3. Toy Story Mania - a MUST! It is so fun - no FP, but the stand-by said 40 minutes, and we only waited 20. It is a fast loading, fast moving ride.
4. Plan to get really wet on Splash - they've changed it.
5. Watch for "Random acts of Indian Jones" - he appears out and around Adventureland - FUN!

Okay, we are now finally ready to complete our journey and get to our appointment with the Mouse! We woke up too early and then tried to sleep some more - the beds in Springhill Suites were so uncomfortable, that DH and I actually tried to sleep on the tiny couchbed and let the kids have the two doubles with the babies - DDIL and I kept each other up the night before. I ended up putting the couch cushions on the floor and sleeping on those - best spot in the room! :scared1: Let me tell you, I was so happy to be getting to a suite at the DLH! We had a nice waffle and boiled egg breakfast in the lobby, got some free snacks and waters with our credit left on our Marriot vouchers (yah, should have gotten two rooms - we learned!) and we were going to Disneyland!!!
When we had been on the road about 10 minutes, Donald said, "Papa, are we REALLY going to Disneyland?" I'm sure this trip made no sense to him at all! :lmao: DDIL Tink had never seen the California coast, so we made a pit stop at Huntington Beach for her:
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z248/MAGICFOR2/July%2008%20Vacation/100_1589.jpg
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z248/MAGICFOR2/July%2008%20Vacation/100_1588.jpg
We then stopped at our favorite California hamburger place - a MUST DO every trip - In - n- Out Burger!!! I had a double-double animal style!!! Heaven I tell ya!
We stopped at Walmart for milk and juice, some snacks and breakfast stuff and water for the room. We hopped right on to Katella from there, which heads right to our resort! 20 minutes later, we were excited to see:
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z248/MAGICFOR2/July%2008%20Vacation/100_1591.jpg
And this guy welcomed us:
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z248/MAGICFOR2/July%2008%20Vacation/100_1592.jpg
Grumpy and Tink went to check us in, and Goofy and I unloaded the car for the bellman. I took the kids in the stroller and Goofy went to park the van in self parking, which is free. Valet is $12 per day, plus a service charge and tips.
Now Tink wanted to play the "birthday card" since it WAS my actual birthday, so she told the CM at the desk that it was my birthday and I was really hoping to have a fireworks view. (We were using DVC points for this stay, and it is the same either way, just first come, first served.) Well, the CM looked and didn't find anything, but she promised we would be happy with our accomodations. Our room wasn't ready yet - it was 1:30PM; we were told to come back at 3pm. She gave me a "special delivery" envelope - it had a signed pic of Mickey and Minnie with a birthday greeting! There was also a button for myself and little Minnie, who will be 1 this month.

Minnie needed to be fed, so she and her parents settled on a bench outside in the shade, and Grumpy, Donald and I went exploring a little bit.
We found Goofy's Kitchen, where we would be eating - we stepped inside the lobby, and the Chef Himself was entertaining some convention guests! Donald was really excited to wave and say hi, but didn't want to get too closed - I had my camera out, tried to get a pic, but somehow got a pic of the floor :confused3 I'm sure I was star struck! :goodvibes Donald practiced driving in this car - before he got in he said, "does it move?" "Okay, I'll drive it."

Goofy had to go and get started cooking, so we peeked into the dining room and Donald decided he did want to eat there - good thing! :thumbsup2 We were reunited with Tink and the gang so we decided to head to DTD and Build a Bear.
Along the way, we snapped some pics of our resort http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z248/MAGICFOR2/July%2008%20Vacation/100_1599.jpg

Minnie knew exactly what she wanted at Build a Bear right away:

Donald was pretty quick too:

We headed to the Lego store, where the best thing was the "big snake" on the wall.
I called the front desk at 3:10 and our room still wasn't ready. It was promised at 4pm. We were starting to think we might be getting a surprise....
We checked out WOD store and the pin kiosk, scoping out what we might want later. Of course, Papa (grumpy) had already taken Donald to the hotel gift shop to purchase a Buzz hat and lazer gun. We decided to head back toward the hotel:
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z248/MAGICFOR2/July%2008%20Vacation/100_1622.jpg
We arrived back at the desk at 4:15 - the CM called someone for quite a while to find out if our room was ready.... the suspense was building... YES! Our room was ready and we were given the magic key!
Now, remember, Mickey had some surprises for the kids, so Tink and I went up to the room to get it ready, and the guys hung out downstairs with the kids.
There were no big surprises, but we loved our rooms! We had a really large one bedroom suite overlooking the Neverland Pool! We had a small kitchen area, and a bathroom plus a powder room and 2 queen beds with a dressing room and our queen sized couch bed!
We loved the details of this room!

Thanks Dawn! I loved the theme at that pool, too! It was wierd that the good pool bar was outside a gate that was sometimes locked from the inside, but they had a mini bar inside the pool complex. :confused3

Wow! Maybe someone else will win the challenge - I think the DLH was built before WDW, so I feel like it's a combo of a few of them - which were you thinking?

Anyway, his favorite character is Jiminy Cricket - so I will now be calling him Jiminy or Jim, as originally stated. He is also fondly known as "Papa" around here since becoming a grandpa.

This is my biggest fear when I'm writing my TR! Each installment takes so long to put together; and then I'm afraid of mistakenly hitting the wrong button and it disappearing. I've heard some people type it first as a word doc. and then copy and paste it - at least I think that's what they're doing. (of course, I don't think to do that!)

After we had opened all the closet doors, checked out the bathrooms and frig, and looked at our view about 20 times, it was time to go have dinner with Goofy!
We decided to wear our pin lanyards, which we don't usually do because we don't trade pins - we just buy the ones we want. We wanted to be all "disneyfied" for this important occasion! I wore my Mickey "It's my birthday!" T-shirt, and pink Mickey crocs. Minnie wore a Daisy shirt that said "I'm turning 1." Her birthday is this month.
When we got to the podium, we were greeted by a friendly CM who asked if we had any special occasions - boy, did we! We told her that it was my birthday, almost Minnie's birthday, and we were celebrating the graduation from college of Goofy and Tink 2 weeks earlier! We got a funny look for that last one, but I thought it was worth celebrating!
We were seated in the waiting area to wait for a picture with Pluto - and were promptly called over to the picture area. Pluto was so fun! He greeted everyone and signed his autograph for us! The CMs were really great about not only taking the pic to sell, but also taking photos with our cameras:

http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z248/MAGICFOR2/July%2008%20Vacation/100_1650.jpg
After our pic, we were seated in a nice booth near the entrance. We were in a great spot, because we were elevated and could see the characters coming around, and we could see all the action down below! As soon as we ordered our drinks, this lost little girl came over to greet us:
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z248/MAGICFOR2/July%2008%20Vacation/100_1651.jpg
She was so cute! She had this little girl voice and Minnie loved her! She asked for permission to visit with her, and wrote her name on our table! Donald was a little shy, so she just talked to him from across the table for a little bit. She did ask his name and how old he was.
Right after we said good-bye to Alice, Fairy Godmother asked if she could visit with us!
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z248/MAGICFOR2/July%2008%20Vacation/100_1652.jpg
We started visiting the buffet - the food was delicious! They were serving Prime Rib, Caribbean chicken, pork roast,
lots of delicious sides and salads and fabulous desserts!
I had the Prime Rib and chicken, some greek salad, fresh pineapple, smoked green beans, great sourdough rolls (A california specialty), shrimp cocktail, some yummy dessert - little chocolate tarts, cheesecake, bread pudding, some kind of mango dessert. It was fun that the desserts were in tiny pieces, because we could taste a little of everything.
when I came back to the table with my plate, we had another visitor:
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z248/MAGICFOR2/July%2008%20Vacation/100_1654.jpg

A couple of the kitchen CMs actually dropped a couple of things on purpose! I looked up and said "Oh, Oh!" and one of the CMs serving said, "Goofy does that every night!" Goofy came out and ran around the room and then started dancing with the kids!

Alice came with a group of CMs! Our server announced that
we were celebrating the birthdays, and that Goofy and Tink had just graduated from college! The whole dining room cheered loudly for them! :yay: The CMs sang Happy Birthday, led by Alice!

After a night of peaceful sleep with our separate rooms and comfortable beds, we had a phone call at 6:05am! I let it ring and ring, hoping that Donald would get to hear Mickey! It turns out that Goofy and Tink hit the speaker phone button, but it wouldn't work in the bedroom, so it didn't get answered. It rang again 5 min. later, and I picked it up to hear Mickey's cheerfull voice - "there's doins goin on! Time to get up!" We were ready for our first day at DL!
We took showers with our cute little toiletries (well, not me - I only use natural products):
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z248/MAGICFOR2/July%2008%20Vacation/100_1640.jpg
We had our breakfast in the room, which by the way does not come with a microwave - you have to request one for medical reasons in advance. I was told by the CM at the front desk when I called that "we don't allow anyone to have a microwave for food reasons." :confused3 I argued with housekeeping and told them we had baby food to heat up, and we couldn't just send the baby to the snack bar to get her food. He laughed and brought one up to us, which was also great for heating up biscuit sandwiches. :thumbsup2
On our way out, I found that the hotel had decent complimentary coffee in the doorway for us! Big surprise for a Disney Hotel! We planned to be at the gate at 7:30 for our 8:00 rope drop- in the past, they opened the gates at about 7:45 and you could go to main street and see some characters and get back to the entrance to the land you wanted to be in and when they made the announcement, you would already be inside the park! Well, this morning, they only had two lines open for bag check, and then they didn't open the gates until 8:00 sharp! There were really long lines to get in!
**A difference here - when you stay on-property at WDW, you get a "key to the world card" that is your room key and your charge card and your park hopper ticket all on one card! At DLR it isn't done that way. :confused3 You get a room key card, a slip of paper for charging that has to be signed and had your account number from the hotel on it - you have to show ID - and you get paper tickets. I had printed e-tickets at home, and I was hoping that the hotel could give us tickets instead of going through the turnstyle to do it, but they couldn't. It had to be done by us at the turnstyles. This is an area where I think DLR needs to get up to speed with WDW! ***
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z248/MAGICFOR2/July%2008%20Vacation/100_1672.jpg
OOPS, not walking to the gate, but the excitement was the same!
We hurried over to our first photo op:
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z248/MAGICFOR2/July%2008%20Vacation/100_1671.jpg
We were all wearing a shirt with our fav character this day. We had Papa, Gramma, Mommy, Daddy and the kids' names on the Mickey heads. Gotta love that Disign board! Tink is the one who figured out how to download them and then personalize them!
**Notice the castle! It is definately smaller, but I think it is pretty and has a character of it's own. This is Sleeping Beauty's Castle - at WDW it is Cinderella's castle! There is no restaurant or dream suite here. Stay tuned for more pics.***
Now, our itinerary was out the door, as we realized that Donald was not going to be ready for Peter Pan or Dumbo, so we decided to just play it by ear and see what he could do! Jiminy ran to Buzz to get FP, and we headed to Nemo. The line was already 40 minutes when we got there, but we figured it wasn't getting smaller and we would all enjoy this one.

This Nemo ride is Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. You actually climb down into a submarine through a hatch in the top, and are seated on benches in front of port holes, where you watch the action in the dark. Having been in the clam shells in Finding Nemo at Epcot, I was sure Donald would love this ride! Just as we got to the front, and he saw where we were going, he started screaming and crying and frantically reaching for Jiminy, begging, "papa, get me out of here!" It was heart wrenching.
Now Tink was sure she could calm him down once the ride got started and there was something fun to look at. The CM, however, wouldn't let him on. I applaud him for that. :thumbsup2 He said it was a 20 minute ride in an enclosed space, and that he had to consider the comfort of the other passengers. Ya think? So Goofy left the line with him and was given a pass to come back, but he decided not to ride.
Miss Minnie enjoyed her first ride, even with the loud explosions and exciting story line - not your pretty clam shell ride by any means, although there was some pretty coral and jellyfish to look at, and the Nemo characters were really cute. Here is Minnie on her first Disney ride:

Here are a few of the pics that turned out. Of course they requested no flash, and I couldn't seem to get my camera not to flash, so I turned it off and just enjoyed the ride.

We enjoyed this ride, but felt bad for Donald and Goofy to miss it.

I am loving your trip report! Thanks for the great pics! You're making me wish I was there!
I hate to say this (cause the ride is so popular) but we rode the nemo sub ride last fall, and since we had previously been on the Nemo ride at Epcot, I couldn't help but compare the two, and personally feel the WDW version is so much more fun. It might have been where I was sitting, but it was so hard to see everything through the little windows, where at Epcot it is all around you. The kids loved the WDW version so much that we must have ridden it 10 times in our last trip (we were there in Jan and there were never long waits for it). After waiting 40 minutes in line for the DL version last fall, I can honestly say we will be skipping it on our next trip. Even my munchkins weren't that thrilled with it. Don't get me wrong, it's a cute ride, just not worth the long lines IMO when there is so much else to do at DL.
Am I the only one who feels this way??

Hi, I really like all the Nemo Pics...Ive always wanted to be in a submarine( I was a Jaques Coustowe sp? fanataic since I was young ) and the fact that you actually get to go bellow the water is the appeal for me.

Tammie - Great update!
First of all, you all look great in your t-shirts! Can I say again how much I love all the colors you chose? They all go so well together.
DisneylandParis does the same thing w/their room keys/park tix/room charge card. I remember having to always carry around all three; they looked at my like I had three heads when I asked about it all being on just one card! I thought it was just a "Europe" thing; funny to hear they do it that way too in DL. Wonder why all the parks can't be in-synch and do things the same way?
How did you like the Nemo sub ride? I always thought it looked cool - and we loved the old 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. My girls really do enjoy the Nemo ride at Epcot - how do you think they compare?

Donald didn't want to get too close, but he and Goofy did the "rock."

Thanks for reading! I agree with you on this one. I really loved the one in Florida for it's imagination and theming, and it was a much better story line and view - also the way you come out in the tank with the real sharks and sea turtles! Although it was fun to go in the submarine, and it is a cute idea, I didn't feel like you could really experience the "ocean" from the little windows, and the story was really disjointed, kind of like it was developed by an 8 yr old boy playing in the bathtub! :lmao: "We're going under the ocean to see the sea life, oh! there's a fish - we're looking for a fish - Oh! There's a giant octopus - He might eat us! :scared1: Yeah! We got away! Oh! There's a huge explosion! We are driving through it - Hang on tight! Now it's dark......oh! there is that little fish - Nemo-Nemo....Oh there's your friends, Oh, there you are!!!!! Yeah we are back home!!!!! Please watch your step and hold small children by the hand....;)

I really enjoyed the novelty of the submarine, too! And I did like the original submarine ride that was there - I saw it the last year it was operating. I think it is a must ride once, like a classic!

Thanks Cammie! Our shirts got alot of attention! Lots of people wanted to know where we got them. I should have had the website listed on our backs! Ha! I do wish they would do a KTTW card everywhere! As for the Nemo comments, "sea" my comment to BigSkyerNurse above! :goodvibes
this is so cute!!!!

Having conquered the undersea world, we were off to the races! We headed over to autopia, which Goofy and Donald had checked out. Donald had given this one his quack of approval :thumbsup2
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z248/MAGICFOR2/July%2008%20Vacation/100_1686.jpg
Now somewhere near the front of the line, Mr. Donald started getting a little worried - "but those cars go REALLY fast!" :rotfl:So Gramma did the unthinkable. She offered a bribe  I had seen a little gift kiosk right next to Autopia, so I told Donald he could have some Candy from over there if he drove a car REAL SLOW! He bit.
It is amusing to note here that he has a power wheels tractor which he operates exactly like the autopia - crazy fast all over the yard! He even does tricks where he stands on the front with his feet on the wheels and moves the gear shift with his hands - not sure how me makes it go, but it moves :confused3 He loves to be pushed on the swing until he is as high as you can go and he is catching air! So at home, he's a daredevil :goodvibes
Okay now back to our program - We boarded our little cars - Goofy and Donald, Tink and I and Minnie, and Jiminy was alone. The race was on!!!!
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z248/MAGICFOR2/July%2008%20Vacation/100_1693.jpg
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z248/MAGICFOR2/July%2008%20Vacation/100_1694.jpg
Now Jiminy was worried that I couldn't drive, so he warned me not to bump into Donald and scare him - THANK YOU....
It was funny though, us girls had a little economy model car - peach colored - and it wouldn't hardly move! I would have the gas all the way to the floor, and it would just sit there and then sputter and die, then I'd get it started again, and we'd take off quickly, then if I let off the gas a little, it would get stuck again. Tink and I were laughing until the tears were running down our faces! I think this was the most fun I've ever had on Autopia! :lmao: Of course, Jiminy was behind us thinking that it was just as he suspected, I COULDN'T DRIVE! :rotfl: We arrived back safe and sound with a big :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z248/MAGICFOR2/July%2008%20Vacation/100_1701.jpg
With much fan fare, Donald picked out his candy, a little bundle of Mickey head suckers - they are still in the bundle, untouched to this day! Donald rarely wants to eat candy, he just likes to know he can. He would rather have fruit any day! :cutie: We got a return FP for this one - it was a keeper!
Next: Time to shoot Zurgg!

It is cute to see once. I don't think it will be really popular for too long.
