Someone told me if you buy disney stock you get special discounts on dvc, tickets rooms, etc. Is there any truth to this? Does anyone know anything about this?

No. Stockholders do have access to the same incentives as anyone else, but the days of good perks for stockholders passed long ago. At this time there are no 'special' incentives for stockholders.

Doc is right......the last thing I got in the mail was a DVC advertisement, basically the same everyone gets. There are dividends....not much but its nice getting a Disney check once a year.

since my dividends are in a DRIP, no checks......but every so often (about every 1-2 years it seems) we get 30% coupons for the childrens place & disney store.

I've been a shareholder for a long time and never got a coupon or anything..plus I was stupid enough to not notice that the annual meeeting was close by..once in a lifetime thing I'm sure..so didn't even go.

They used to be great. You could buy a single Disney share and functionally get a lifetime membership to the Magic Kingdom Club - ticket discounts, room discounts. The share sold for less then the MKC membership (which you had to pay for every year). All that ended sometime in the 1990s when I suspect Disney looked at their books and realized they had a lot of single share shareholders who own a single share for discounts - but still needed annual reports, dividend checks, and all the other shareholder relations activities that are actually fairly expensive for a company.

You can still buy stock in Disneyland Paris and join their shareholders club to get benefits there. I'm in the process of doing that since I'll be visiting Disneyland Paris this year and the discounts are worth owning the stock.

This is why Disney changed from a quarterly dividend to an annual dividend. Before that change, I would get a check for 5 cents every quarter when the dividend was still 20 cents per share.

I believe for stockholders right now there is an ability to buy in as a new DVC purchaser and get DisneyCard incentive that another new purchaser can get only if he is referred by an existing member, i.e., the stockholder does not need the referral. Other than that I have not seen any incentives for years.

I just bought into the DVC (SSR) 2 days ago and got an incentive of 125 developer points for being a Disney shareholder. I haven't received my paperwork to sign yet so I don't know what information I need to provide about my stock.
