View Full Version : Embarrassing Personal Question....

Hey, I have a wonderfully embarrassing personal question, that I really need an answer to, so I figured I'd ask here. I started doing WW about 6 or 7 weeks ago, and though I've lost just over 25 pounds :cool1: I am terribly constipated now, and I just don't know what to do about it. My usual day consists of:
Morning: Cereal and fat free milk
Lunch: Soup with or without some bread or a sandwich
Dinner: Usually some frozen Healthy Choice, Lean Cuisine, etc. or chicken with lots of veggies.
I don't snack all that much just because I'm truly not hungry, but if I do, I have a Quaker Oats cereal bar, or 100 calorie pack pop corn, or 100 calorie pack Oreos. I'm drinking at least 2 sport bottles of water (with crystal lite) each day as well. I'm also doing walk/jog on the treadmill twice a day for 35 minutes each time.
So does anyone know what I can do to help things out? I'm totally open to taking some kind of supplement (Dulcilax maybe??). I'm also looking for a multi vitamin if anyone can suggest one.
Thanks in advance!

One of my friend's daughter was having that problem and here is what she suggested when another friend's daughter was constipated as well:
No suppositories - those should be last resort and your body gets addicted to them.
Fiber Sure
Mineral Oil
No banana
Dried prunes (cut up to begin with - she mixes with oatmeal)
Miralax - 1 tsp a day - used to be prescription now supposed to be OTC
I think both toddlers are doing better - at least some of the suggestions are completely natural and wouldn't hurt to try. I don't think she did all of these at the same time (mixing Fiber Sure and Miralax), so best to ask the pharmasist about that.
Best of luck!

I would suggest eating more fruit at is seems you don't eat any. I have found that dried prunes are really good when flavored (they have cherry and orange that I know of) and I think they were only a point a pack. An occasional All bran or fiber one bar also works wonders for me. If all else fails, go of medimucal (sp?). It tastes nasty, but tends to work.

Here are some ideas that have worked for me in the past...
Not sure how big your sports bottles are, but when you get a higher amount of fiber in your diet you also need lots and lots of water to help the fiber flush your system. Also, how much calcium are you eating/taking as a supplement? Sometimes the calcium can stop things up. You may also need more magnesium in your diet (lots of leafy greens, multi grains, or a supplement). Just be careful when you add a supplement... sometimes it works too well!
Good luck.

Fruits, veggies, water, walking. Lots and lots.
Another thing I discovered from a friend is milled flaxseed for additional fiber. (Count this in your calorie count though--this does have calories.) I use it on my morning cereal (oatmeal).

If none of the above suggestions work, my doctor recommended Milk of Magnesia. She said to stay away from the Correctol, Dulcolax, etc.

For those of you on WW, I just posted a poll in a new thread here on the WISH boards. It is about how you use your flex points. So if you are on WW, please visit here and take the poll!

If you add some vegetable oil to your diet, you should see results. I've had this problem in the past. Try to eat a salad with oil & vinegar dressing or another dressing that contains oil.

Fiber, walking, water.....
Try instead of your normal cereal a high fiber. I mix Fiber One original w/ WW yogurt for breakfast - 17 fibers and only 1 point!
Also use a wheat bread from WalMart - don't recall brand..it's double fiber & 2 slices are only 1 pt. 5 fiber each slice.
