The atrium project is wrapping up. The fountain was turned on at 6:15 AM Florida time. They are now replacing all the foliage surrounding the lava rock waterfall. I guess it will look like a new atrium. I am a little sad for the banana trees and giant bird of paradise that were removed after growing for so many years but at least it will all be good as new.

I may be out of the loop, but last summer when we visited the poly the beauitful macaw's where gone, what happened to them? I loved to stand and watch them, probably at animal kingdom? Oh well, 130 more days and we will be at the poly (gv-conc) 1st time! Last year we really realized we had missed the poly and now can't wait to go back! MKY

I also loved those red maccaws. I have not been back for 6 years so this april will be a treat. I used to wander into the lobby just to see what those guys were up to.

I don't know for sure but I thought in one of the conversations, there was mention that the birds were not coming back because of some of the mistreatment by some of the guests (just a rumor). I did hear they were sent to the Animal Kingdom. I guess what ever is best for the birds is what matters.

oh absolutly what ever is best for them.
But i will miss them . Short of a misbehaving child i cant imagine anyone abusing them. I have a cockatoo and she can get nippy at times. cant imagine getting bit by a macaw!!! Big time ouch.
I will have to visit them at AK.
Thanks again Tiki am now looking forward to our trip even more.

Thanks for the update, Tikiman...5 days to go. Although the macaws were so beautiful to see, I always felt sorry for them. I hope they have a happy life at AK and get a chance to fly!!! Thanks again.

Glad to hear the great news. We are Poly loyals, but are taking two families there with us after Disney Cruise in May and after speaking so highly about the Poly, I am glad to hear that everything will be in working order.
It's like going home each year. I appreciate all that you do Steve to keep the Poly in our hearts all year!
Thanks!

We missed the macaws last summer. Two CM's at Guest Services indicated that the macaws keeper had to drive out to the Polynesian once (or maybe twice) a day to care for them. So expense was an issue during a time of cost cutting.
The CM's also indicated that some "guests" would throw pennies at the macaws from the upper level of the GCH. (makes me so angry if this is true that I may go into my pool hopping rant!)
They thought that the macaws were going to be moved to the entrance of Animal Kingdom.
In any event, we always enjoyed the macaws at the Polynesian and it was sad to see another piece of Disney history slip away.

It is sad the Quickdraw & Lady Chatfield (aka -the most recent Poly Macaws) moved to the AK. I know that we will miss them.
Steve - Thanks for the update. I am so psyched that the Lobby will be intact for my trip on 4/12. This was bothering me to a greater extent than it probably should have been (you know how it is - you just want everything to be 'perfect').
I'd love to see any pics if any goes soon - if not I'll take some in April and make them available somehow (maybe with Tikiman's help).
