Hey! On the fall/fall advantage thread we discussed a box. The box gets sent around to everyone who is participating and in it is a journal and various things that everyone adds in. In the journal we describe ourselves and put in pictures to get to know each other!

This box is for people doing the Fall program. Anyone who is interested should post and pm me their address.

this is the box idea from sweater in june. It was on the faq thread, but i thought i would post it here for people to understand better.


I don't know if this is something that interests you, but 7 of us from Spring '03 did something called "The Box". It wasn't an original idea among us, as someone else had done it prior...anyhow. One person starts it and compiles a list of addresses of the participants. He/she also buys a journal or some sort of blank book--hardbound is a plus, but nothing too big or bulky...dollar stores are great for this. Each person will take 1-2 pages and put some photos of themselves, a brief bio and description of where you live (picture!), and a favorites list about Disney related things, etc. (Ride, Park, character, food, color,...). We filled the box with a few Disney related gifts, DVDs, CDs, books,etc. Ours, by the end included:
-pencils, pens, erasers, stationery, princess bubbles, candy(NO CHOCOLATE! It melts!--use good judgement).
-DVDs: MMC, DL Sing-A-Long, Modern Marvels, Travel Channel Specials, etc.
-Books: Imagineering field guides, Mousecatraz, park maps, etc.
-CDs: Soundtracks, park music
-Gifts: Socks, Disney bubbles, stickers, any other gifts for your new friends!

Be sure to tag certain gifts for each member, if it matters what they take. We also included a postcard or letter...to be opened first which explains what we included, why, and what each person could take, if it wasn't tagged. Some were obvious, if there's a pack of untagged pencils, you get one. Multiple erasers? Take one, etc.

Finally, after filling the box, and the first few should not fill it all the way, he/she sends it out to the person below them on the address list (in a flat-rate box available at your local post office--this way everyone pays the same amount, regardless of weight). DO not forget to include the address list and rules sheet when you pack the box (and have a copy of the address you're sending to outside). The rules list includes many of the guidlines here...I can send a run-down of our if you're interested.

We had one major rule: everyone gets 2 days with the box and it MUST be sent off!

This way everyone has a chance to get it at least twice, to put their offerings in, and recieve gifts/materials from those below them. Again, keep the group small. Whoever has the box last, closest to leaving brings it down with them.

i think that the last person that brings it should be someone who is driving so that someone that is flying, or coming from really far away doesn't have to try and bring it.

I have a notebook we can use. Its one of those composition notebooks. and ive started looking for some stuff to put into the box. I think right now we have 4 people: Carlos, sam, piglet, and snow princess. (sorry i didnt know your names:confused3)

Since we have so much time I think we can wait for a few more people and then start it.

Does anyone have any other cool ideas for the box? I thin k it would be fun if we each decorated the front of the notebook too. Like you can add stickers or whatever on the front to personalize it before you send it on.

Here are some of the rules that were discussed on other threads:
1. The person with the box can only keep it for blank number of day before having to send it off again. (4-5 may be good)
2. No chocolate or anything that may melt.
3. The last person to have to box brings it to wdw with them.

Hey, I am doing the Fall Advantage box, and I just wanted to say that 5 days would probably be too long. It's already taken us about a month/20 days just to get it to person number 4, and that's with us doing it 2 days. (Meaning the day you get it doesn't count and the day you send it off doesn't count. So I got the box on Monday, I am sending it off today--Thurs). You probably don't want to go any longer than that if you want it to reach everyone more than once. :) :) :) (And that's the REAL fun part!)

Maybe that way it wouldn't take as long to travel.

All those ideas sound great. I'm on board for capping it off or it might get out of hand but I wouldn't know how many people is too little or too many. I do know that last summer my friends and I did a traveling notebook (we got the idea from the traveling pants) and it took us forever and we were in the same state and there were only 7 of us! But if people made sure not to hold onto it for weeks, I think like 10 or so would be good?

I think it makes sense to map out the box's itinterary based on geography too.

Just an idea, but we could wait until like the end of April, just to see how many people join then, and then start the box. I'd guess that we'd have all the people we could manage by the end of the month. But that's just an idea!

I have addresses for carlos, Allie, and Lora. I still need addresses for piglet, porterella, akemi, and kandeebunny. Im not sure who has officially accepted or not, so im not sure who i should include on the list so far. We still have the option to add people to the end of the list later and start sending the box nox so it gets going. let me know what you think.

Here is the list of rules as made by tyler for the fall advantage box:

“The Box” WDWCP Fall 2008 RULES:

1. Each person gets up to 2 days with “The Box”, not counting the day on which it is received, before it must be sent on to the person below you on the list. For example, if Alice gets “The Box” on Monday, she must send it off by Thursday to Dopey. The last person to receive “The Box” should send it to the person who started it and the cycle will repeat at least once, allowing people to include and retrieve items. (An ending date will be May 10th and this person is expected to bring the box with him/her to FL.)

2. When you receive the box, please unpack it carefully! Not everything in the box will be for you alone, or even for you at all. You are responsible for the care of these gifts, just as the others are responsible for the care of your gifts. Make sure these and any gifts you contribute make it into “The Box” before it is sent off.

3. In the journal, please take 1-2 pages to share a bit about yourself, where you’re from, and your favorites. It would also be nice to include a photo or two so we can put a face with a name and maybe even a name with a location!

4. Please include a postcard, note card, etc. to say hello and briefly describe what you’ve contributed to “The Box” and what people are allowed to take if it isn’t obvious. If you have a specific gift for each person involved, please tag them so that there is no confusion. These cards should all be kept together and placed with the rules sheet and address list to be read first.

5. CDs, DVDs , books etc. may be watched, read, listened to, or even copied (if possible), but they remain the property of whoever contributed them. Make sure these and all other shared items make it into “The Box” before it is sent off.

6. While some candies are okay, please refrain from including perishable/melt-able foods like chocolate. It’s a sweet gift, but not when it’s melted to someone’s new pair of socks or a shared book! ;-)

7. Gifts can be related to a unique hobby you enjoy, where you live, etc., but most of the things included should be related to Disney or something to help you during the WDWCP.

8. The best way to package “The Box” is to obtain a ‘Flat-Rate’ box from your local post office. The boxes themselves cost nothing and are, I believe, $8.95 to mail on to the next person, regardless of weight! “The Box” will get heavy, so this will save you money and makes it fair for everyone.

9. This is NOT a contest to see who can spend the most money! Include what you can, but don’t break the bank! You’ll want your money in FL! If you’re artistic, you can make a special gift for your new friends. Great Disney things/useful gifts can often be found at your local dollar store, Target Dollar Zone, and even Walmart! Plus, you may have a great book, Movie/Park Soundtrack, or recorded TV special (*hint* The TRAVEL Ch. airs these all the time and has 4 brand new specials to be aired in the coming months) that can be shared with everyone!


They are also putting a flat mickey (flat stanley) in their box. If you guys want to do that also it sounds like a lot of fun. Let me know so I can make one up.

So... i just spent the last fex hours working on stuff for the box. I have everything ready to be shipped out to the first person...almost. I still have to write about myself, then just get the box and mail it. I did make a flat mickey. Due to my lack of drawing talent I printed a picture offline and cut it out. He's darn cute though! So when someone gets the box they can take a picture with flat mickey somewhere...campus etc. and include that in the journal with the rest of the stuff. Im pretty excited about this! Now I just need those last peoples addresses. Dont worry, we can add people later if your not sure if your accepted yet.

The rules that i posted are the rules that tyler is using for the fall advantage box. They leave in May so these rules are tailored to their schedule. I will include a copy of these rules in the box, but will edit them before hand. I didnt edit the whole thing before i posted it on here. If people have any suggestions of things to add/take off, then i will do that at the same time.

If i dont send it out this weekend it will be next week sometime. That way the box moves from one coast to the other and doesnt have to be shipped back and forth randomly. As soon as I get to the post office I will get the box in the mail to Lora.

So we have the above 8 people. but since I havent started it I will add cupcake, to the beginning since she is in Ca. So since wee have 9 people :scared1: well have to get the box from person to person very fast. I think we should get the box on one day (monday) then keep it for a full day (tuesday) and then try and get it sent out the next day (wednesday). Tyler's the only guy on the FA box, so I went out and bought some Cars stuff to make it a little more masculine. Most of our box is pretty neutral-type stuff, but then I covered it in princess stickers so there went that. Hope you guys have an awesome box!

When you log in to your paypal click on Merchant Services.

There will be a menu and under shipping and tax there is a link for "Multi-Order Shipping"

Click on that and you can input addresses and labels, then check out all at once. It automatically adds delivery confirmation for the 18 cents.

Then you print out the label and tape it on the package.

You can input the weight/dimensions, but since we are using a flat rate just check off flat rate.

After you use it once it will be in the upper left hand corner on your account overview page.

The actual box itself is a little beat up (and now it has my PO Box number all over it...dumb post office), so it may need replaced, but it looks amazing with all the stickers!

Hey Everyone! It's been a while (almost a month actually) since I've logged onto here and I know some people are not very happy with me for how long I kept the box. I just wanted to explain to you all why, and then afterwards, if you still feel like hating me, then that's up to you I guess. The day I got it was a Thursday and was the day before two of my hardest finals of my college career (and the post office was already closed at that time anyways). Friday I was in finals all day (post office closed by the time I was done). Saturday I graduated from college (no time to get to post office and it's closed on sunday). Monday-Friday the following week, I started a new job that I work from 8am-5pm so when I was off work, the post office was already closed and since it was a new job, I didn't want to ask to leave early. That saturday was my graduation party and was extremely busy helping out with that and then again the following week I worked during post office hours. I don't have a mail man so I couldn't print the postage and have them pick it up and there really wasn't anyone around for me to ask them to do it for me. I had the box ready to go right away and I was literally stressing out about it every day and felt bad that I couldn't find anytime to get it on its way. The first opportunity, I went straight to the post office and sent it out. I'm only explaining this cuz I really am a nice person and I wasn't careless about it and wanted you to know that. Anyways, once it comes back around to me, I'll make sure to get it out the day after I get it since now I'm a little bit more trained in at work and can probably ask my boss to leave for 30 minutes if need be. Anyways, that's all. I hope you all are having a great day and hate me a little less now:(

I mailed the box out on Monday, so I am pretty sure that Porterella has it by now. I had so much fun decorating the box. I put everything in a new one because the box had seen better days.

I agree we should figure out who the person would be to bring it. Maybe someone who is driving so they dont have to worry about it on a plane. Or whoever the last person is could mail it to you once you are at WDW since you get there on the 11th. You could email them your address. Might be easier than trying to take it with them. Just an idea.
