View Full Version : What to do with those pins you just can't give away?!

Yep, I bet we all have them.. pins we bought extras of thinking they'd be great traders, only to find that no one wants them. I've tried trading, selling them at cost, then below cost. I can't get rid of them! I'm tempted to just give them away they are aggravating me so much. If only they didn't cost me so much money.

Mine are the August Pin Event pins. Argh... Anyone else?

No problem, Dar ... I moved it for you. :)

Lauri and I have had two Black Heritage Celebration pins LE 1000 in our trader book for over a year and they haven't moved. I'm ready to put them on lanyards on our next trip.

The Pin Swap is NOT for getting rid of pins that no one wants. It is intended to give someone a little surprise. In many cases people surprise their swap partner with a pin from their wants list or something form their theme(s). I would hope that everyone reads the letter that Peggie sends out with the information on who you are sending to. Let's please not us the swap for this.

But also remember that some people didn't get those August pin event pins are might be interested in them.

What is an unwanted pin to one person could be one that another wants.

Well Dom is right, but.....
You can always send the person a pin they might want from their pin pics list and another from that book of no one wants for the person to use as a trader.
But along those lines, most of the pins from the August event were really nice pins, and very expensive.
I know when I was a new trader, just starting up, I would have loved one of the puppet pins, or the lenticular villians. You may have one to send to a new trader and when they see it they will work on getting the whole set because they like them.
So try not to dump something like one of the 2000 CM pins that are on every lanyard, but if you send a nice pin, even one that no one seems to want, you may be starting a new holy grail for someone. Peggie

Agree on the August pins. They were/are good. I think the trendiness just wore off. There always seems to be a newer, shiner pin on the horizon. ;) But they are still nice pns.
I have two puppet pins from separate trades. And I look at those two pins and think, "$30!!"
Adds up fast, doesn't it?

maybe we should start a take my pin please thread. I do notice that there are lots of new traders around so I would suggest offering all those pins for trade once again and see if there are any newbies who might be excited about those pins. I know a lot of people were at the pin event before but there is always a fresh crop of people or those who, like me decide they like the pin about a year later. Start a new thread!! I would be anxious to see what you all are having trouble getting rid of.

Duckfan - great idea.

I also have a load of pins that long time traders either have or just don't want.
I did take a bunch and made a kid's smaller trade book. It is kinda fun - kids can take any pin out and put any pin in.

I have made a kid lanyard as well for my extras and I put a lot of great pins on lanyards. I also do the random act of kindness-- give away a pin thing a lot too. Makes people smile! For that matter, it makes me smile and feel good to just give away pins sometimes.

.....and she's very good at it too, I might add...;) Linda was very instrumental in getting my kids involved in pin trading and 'showing them the ropes'......one of the most important things she taught them--by example, probably without even realizing it--was that there are real benefits to giving pins away, both to the recipient *and* the giver......:)

Thanks Linda,

I jave also found it not unusual at all to have a pin for months as a trader. Then in just one day have three people want it.
