Is anyone else disappointed with the latest Disney Files magazine? We got ours earlier in the week. I really miss the resort section and the articles were mostly of old news already found here on the web. Really disappointing, I am hoping they add back in those missed sections.

Just another way that DVC isn't so special any more. I loved reading about the resorts, what was going on there, what staff was located there, etc. It's becoming so generic.

I was also disappointed in the magazine. :sad2: I was really looking forward to the updates. But, it seemed as everything was "old" news...

Me too.
I did a quick analysis of the content and posted the results here: Disney Files = Junk Mail? (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1748812)

I replied to a similar thread yesterday, but I'll add my 2 cents here too. I flipped through the magazine quickly when I first received it and thought maybe I had just missed the DVC stuff. Went back through...nope, not much there. We've been members since '94; I've always looked forward to reading the Vacation Magic to see what was going on with the DVC resorts. For the last year or so, even before the name change, the magazine seemed to be more of an advertisement for Disney than DVC information. BTW, does anyone else hate the name change??? Disney Files just seems too 'cutesy'.

I'm glad others are feeling this way too. I thought I was being too fussy. I flipped through it several times. I did read the article about Joyce the doll maker and thought that was a nice story. I do like to read about the resorts too though and the workers there.

Let's put it this a way: I seriously doubt your going to get any votes on this board that the thing is an improvement. In fact, I think most of us would vote for the new magazine as high cost TP.
It seems to be one of those wayward creations by some high paid MBA who knows a lot about the mechanics of trying to sell stuff and not one wit about what people really think or want. I will just chalk it up as another episode of how corporations always seem to find ways to spend a lot of money to be stupid. And they can never bring their bloated egos under control to realize when to leave well enough alone.

This is very interesting because not long after I got the previous issue I emailed them about how disappointed I was at the changes. I don't visit here often on this board so I didn't know that many others have not been crazy about the new and improved magazine.
I thought this one was worse than the last issue. But, maybe if we all complain, nothing will happen, as usual. :rolleyes1

Agreed with all of the above. I also thought it was just me, but I whipped thru it in minutes.

We got the magazine earlier this week. I flipped through it in less than a minute and it went directly in the trash. I really miss Vacation Magic, the old magazine had actual DVC info.

we've only received 1 and haven't received this one yet and i'm really confused.
is this not something that only people who own dvc receive? if so - why isn't it dvc related?
and really - way are they wasting a portion of our annual dues on this since 1 it sounds like a lot of people could live without it and 2 they could post it on the members website
wouldn't that make more sense?
you could go to the archives and read past articles plus it would save thousands and thousands a year in publishing and mailing costs.

They actually do post them on the members site. The magazine is only for DVC members. Former mag was called Vacation Magic and much of it was actually devoted to DVC matters including news on each resort, dates when things would be down (like pools for refurbishment), other things.
New one, Disney Files, appears to be some idiot's creation designed mainly to provide free advertisement for Disney in general and charge us dues for the cost of producing and sending it.

The whole thing just looks so cheap to me (especially the cover and name). I can't imagine how in the world they came up with this change. Surely if anyone with any creative ability had been given the assignment to change the magazine and make it better they could have come up with something better than what they have now. It is now just a big ad for Disney in general. Maybe they should start just handing it out free when you check into All Star Music with the "Welcome Home" you get now. That would be one way to make the "Best Kept Secret" less secret for sure. I know I'm being elitists again, sorry.

Any word with "file" at the end gives me the creeps...and now Disney Files..cause we are "Disney-philes"? Why change omething that was good...even though I only got 1 copy of "Magic" before it changed...

The last couple of issues of Vacation Magic never made it to the website.

still doesn't make any sense that they are preaching to the choir - they don't need to convince us to buy dvc (or additional points for that matter) or vacation at disney parks or linked hotels - we bought into it, we know about it, we love it - we get it.
