Wk of Mar 9 - WISH Walking/Running Club

(posting this for a sick Chimera)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

Hey, everyone!

Mel is really sick right now, so I posted up the new thread. She has the major respitory crud at the moment, and generally feels like poo.

Hope everyone has a healthy week, and try not to breath on anyone if you are sick!

Take Care,
Jeff

Hey WISHERS, good job on the mileages, times, and races. Keep it going!

The Princesses and I were out selling Girl Scout cookies all day Saturday.

Back out on the road with newbie runners Sunday morning when the clinic starts up.

Have a great rest of the weekend.

UPDATED 7/16/08 WITH PHOTOS:

I love my Thin Mints so much, I made my two Princesses join Girl Scouts. Oh, and I'm the leader!

Did you try the Dairy Queen Thin Mint Blizzard yet? It's only out during the month of July, so hurry. I thought it was okay, but Dryer's Girls Scout Thin Mint Cookie ice cream is way better.

Mel, hope you feel better really soon! :wizard:

Vic, cool shadow boxes! :thumbsup2

Jeff, we finally got our 354 boxes delivered. :yay:
Our troop still has some boxes left so we're doing a few booth sales. I'm so glad we collected all the money, I stressed about it for a few days.

Good morning WISHers!

Hoping everyone sprung forward today.

No training today. As a matter of fact, I’m fixin to head to the kitchen and make huevos rancheros for breakfast. Mmmmmmmm. :thumbsup2

Mel – Hope you’re feeling better soon.

Anne – The race had a later start than last year. 10:00 o’clock. The boys stayed home. One was on squirrel patrol and the other in one of the recliners. ;) :rotfl:

Shannon – Sorry I didn’t have a chance to meet you yesterday.

All – I’ll pass on your compliments to Marilyn.

Y’all have a great day.

:)

Mel, please get well soon.

Dave, you can drink beer and scratch any time you want. Why is it wrong to scratch anyway??? Never quite got that one!

Vic, what does one do on Squirrel Patrol?? I thought that's what Game and Fish Officers did???

Have a wonderful week! Especially if I don't get back to this lightening fast thread!

Jeff

Take good care of Mel.

Mel

I give you my permission to be as demanding as you like (of Jeff pirate: ).

Anne

Congrats on the negative split. I suspect it is a rather small subset of the population that (1) knows what a negative split is, and (2) knows it's a good thing. And heck, you did it!

Is the sweep pace for Minnie 15 mpm? And do the enforce it as strictly as they do the 16 mpm for the full? With the race 8 weeks from today you should be in good shape for the 15K.

Vic

That was a nice gesture by Marilyn for your medals and photos. Has she thought about starting her own business for all of we finishers?

Yesterday the heavens opened up, but thankfully heavy rain instead of the heavy snow the folks in Cleveland and Cincinnati received. Martha and I went to the fitness center in the afternoon, and very cutely, got on side by side treadmills. I had a good 5 mile effort, and out of the corner of my eye I saw her really nice and strong 4 miler. When I registered for Minnie I saw they had a team registration option, including an open team classification, which we could have entered. After our respective efforts yesterday I now wish we had entered the open class.

My wife Maggie has posted here in the past, walked with a group of WISHers in Chicago's 1/2 marathon last year, and recommended that I ask here.

I am a beginning triathlete, aiming for the Racine 1/2 Tri this year.

I wonder what some of the endurance athletes use as a recovery shake/meal after a workout...there is a mind boggling array of (not inexpensive) choices out there.

For workouts longer than an hour I normally take a dose of Source naturals Triathlete supplement. Link below:

http://www.sourcenaturals.com/products/GP1300/

During and after the workouts, I use Cytomax sports drink for hydration

link below:

http://www.cytosport.com/Product.aspx?ProductID=5

Please note, I am not endorsing or advertising these products, I am hoping for some feedback from more experienced athletes in regards to pre, during and post workout nutrition. If I am wasting my money on these products, I'd sure like to know...

Thank you VERY much in advance!

Keep those tree rats out of the yard. :rotfl:

I believe its in the K-9 union contract. ;) :) I have one (Dusty) who barley lives up to the contract. He gives a half-assed effort to give chase when he sees a squirrel in the yard. The other (Earnhardt) hasn't lived up to the contract in years. :lmao:

Hi Team :)

Just checking in from the frozen tundra of Vermont! What a night we had....high winds, freezing rain, power went out...heat went off....I'm still trying to recover from the worst night of sleep I've had in a LONG time.

Anyway....scrapped skiing for the day due to the rough night :(.

I did manage to get a 6 mile run in.....back at home.....in the pouring rain yesterday before heading up here with the kids. Went ok...just took it easy....managed a decent pace but wouldn't set any records for sure ;). Think it worked out to be around a 10 mpm...but I was forced off road and into puddles, mud, etc due to having to run on a busy road with no shoulder or sidewalk. Fun fun fun! :woohoo:

Jeff....Tell Mel I'm sending her my best. EVERYONE around here is sick :(. It's been a tough winter...I think we're all just ready for spring to come and hopefully chase away all the illness.

Mike....After lots of research...I ended up just using the more inexpensive Carnation Instant B'fast. Surprisingly it has many of the same combos of proteins/carbs/vitamins as the more expensive recovery shakes. Worth checking out!

Shan....Yep..GS cookie time is upon us LOL. We have to start delivering the hordes of cookies now. I've been a leader for 6 years and cookie time is the most stressful time ;). We've got a few booth sales set as well...yay  .

Happy Training!

Amy: what whacky weather we're having! Lots of rain but thankfully not as much as predicted. Still, you don't need to shovel rain. I hope the power is back on in Vermont or else, how are you getting to the internet! WTG on the 6 miler!

Mel: get well soon! Take care of yourself and follow the doctor's orders--doctor Jeff that is!

Jeff: take good care of Mel, as if I need to tell you!

Vic: we had 2 dogs for a long time. The golden retriever mix would chase anything. The beagle mix refused to chase anything. I would make her "ask" for a treat by raising her paw and you could tell that she only did it b/c she would get the treat. She would never do anything as demeaning as chase a squirrel!

I ran 4 miles yesterday with 1 1/2 miles at 10:28 per mile. I was pleased with that. I biked today and lifted weights. We're heading to London for a long weekend this week and I won't get in any workouts there...unless walking the streets of London counts. Coach Panda, can I get a ruling on this?

Happy training everyone!

Calcio/Craig, everything I know, I learned HERE! You and Martha running side by side on the TM's reminded me of a Star Trek/Enterprise scene. Glad you two didn't try to one up each other!! :goodvibes Thankfully, I still have eight weeks to get my speed up a bit. Saturday's was NOT good enough for Minnie! Email WWoS about changing your registration. Surely, they will be GLAD to take more money from you!
magslite/Mike, Howdy!! I was in Chicago with ya! :wave2: There was a Triathalon thread around here somewhere...But you have definitely come to a good place to ask that question!! AmyBeth68 has answered...xterratri/Lynne, ironz/Betsy, and Stitch lover Sith/Erin, are you out there?? Come around more often! Say, "Hi!" to Maggie!!
Amy, Wowza!! That's the kind of weather you need to just snuggle by the fireplace with some hot chocolate! Sorry about the skiing, though! Great job on your six miler in the rain!!

Hi all. I'm still very new around here but wanted to check in. I just completed week 4(of 12 weeks) of the Cool Running half marathon training schedule that I've been following. I got in 22 miles for the week. So, for now I just have two races that I'm signed up for. The 7th annual Run Away With Cirque du Soleil 5K on March 29th(I did the 5th and 6th year of that one), and the Disneyland half marathon on Aug 31st. Since I have a big gap in between those races, I plan to sign up for a 10K and another 5K before Disney in Aug. :)

Hi everybody!

Just wanted to check back in and let you know I'm still alive. Totaly missed last week's thread!

Hope everyone's training is going well. I keep hoping to get back into the swing of things, soon, but it's total LTO right now. Schoolwork is busy, I'm planning a trip to take a bunch of kids to Denver for a tournament. We leave in less than a month. And I took a promtional test at work recently, so that kept be busy brushing up on things. I finished 1st, so should be getting promoted in the very near future.:) More money for Disney (and other race) trips!:lmao:

Mel - Hope you feel better soon :wizard:

Everyone else, keep up the good work!

I will definitely say Hi to Maggie.

AmyBeth thank you for the response, I'll head to Jewel/Albertson's in a few minutes to check it out!

It looks like people post their workouts, so here goes; Todays was a 50 minute run (which was too easy on a treadmill so I ran it with 3-4% grade most of the time) got to 5 miles total.

8 work outs in the last six days...only 19 more weeks of training...but I get a rest day tomorrow!

Shan & Amy- Good going on the cookies. How many in your troop? I have 13 girls in my troop, and a very supportive parent network. My cookie mom does a great job every year, so I'm lucky to be stress free during the cookie selling period.

BTW, we picked up 1,900 boxes, which are for pre-sale and two booths yesterday. We sold 530 boxes at two booths. Probably have to go back to get more from the buffer for this Saturday's two booth sites.

Well, off to our Girl Scout meeting. We're going box sliding & kite flying (winds permitting) down by the ocean park in downtown.

WISHERS

Our clinic got off to a great start today, I estimate a whopping 300 people showed up. I'm sure over the next few weeks, some will drop out, hopefully not too many.

A lot of beginners went out for a 3 mile loop around Kapiolani park. Most walked, and some jogged.

I helped guide about 35 intermediates on a 6 mile run, going at a pace of 11 minutes a mile, with 5 water stops along the way. From the park, we trekked up Diamond Head, around the backside into Kaimuki, and then back. A few of the regulars I train with kept going to the 8 mile mark.

A few guys ran a 10K early in the morning, and then came out to run 8 more, for about 14 miles altogether.

The advance group went 12 miles, at a 8 minute pace. Whew, that's flying!

Everyone have a great week! Safe training, and fun racing to you all.

My sister and I like to train and race with a product called infinit. It is completely tailored to your specific needs electrolight wise. With that being said I also do long workouts with Gu gells or power gells and water. After a hard workout I drink a yogurt smoothie then try to eat something light with protein in it. Now with all of this being said only you can make to call on what does and does not work for you. I personally have a hard time eating on the bike, the run is not an issue.

Good luck on training for your first half I am doing the same. Mine will be Musselman on July 13.

Anne- I have not gone away, I just got really busy with work school and training. Hope fully spring break time I can get around to posting more. I hope this helped you out Mike.

I have to go stretch really good but I was so excited I had to run in the door (literally) and share with you guys what i just did because you guys give me the inspiration and motivation to do it (especially since DH can't run with me anymore :sad1: )

Just did 7 for the first time since I was training for MINNIE last year. You will NEVER believe how fast I ran it. :dance3:

Here's the breakdown:

Mile 1 & 2 - 10 min pace
3 - 9 min
4 - 8 min :woohoo:
5 - 9 min
6 & 7 - 9:15 pace
Whole 7 - 64.5 total!!!!!

Thank you guys so much for constantly being a source of encouragement to each other and it is so nice to have people who will get as excited as you are or as frustrated as you are.

Hi Everyone!

Oh it was so pretty outside today. DD9 had her first fastpitch game of the season so we got a big dose of outside too.

I also joined a new gym today. Well, actually Dh joined a new gym and it seemed silly to belong to 2 different gyms so I joined with him. This gym has everything INCLUDING the ability to test your max heart rate and VO2 threshold. I hope it will be a good change. Shan - you should definately check out the new Lifetime Fitness CLub when It opens.

Hey y'all,

Thanks for the well-wishes for Mel. She's doing better, but I think the 'feel like crap' moniker still applies. She is coughing pretty constantly. Of course, you can't keep a strong woman down, so she's been makin' queso dip (YUM!) and moving around, gracing every room of the house with a cough or two :rotfl:

AlohaJeff: That was such a cool thing you did with leading the folks on the 6-miler, and props to you for being so involved with the GS cookies. I know the princesses are gratefulprincess:

Ohio-based WISHers: my thoughts are with y'all right now, as I just saw pics of the snowstorm you just had. It's unbelievable! I hope that your power stays on and that you all stay safe on the roads (unless you;re fortunate enough to ski to work!).

I took my first run today since the Sarasota half-marathon last Sunday. Just did an easy 3-miler, made it a little fun by kicking up the pace a teensy bit, to a 10:13. It's such a far cry from where I used to be averaging just a few months ago (nearly a 12:00). My, how two half-marathons (and some nice bling) can change your style :woohoo:

Later!

Angie, congrats on your run! :woohoo:
I hope you don't mind me asking, but how long was it before you could really start back up running again? I'm debating on having some surgery done, but I worry how long I'll be out and how long it will take to get back to where I am now. :confused3

Jeff, we have 16 girls in our troop. Good luck with your cookie sales!

SamSam Sounds like you are serious to me too!! :flower3: and that's one of the things I love about this place, no matter what level we are at everyone supports and encourages each other. I have told my story so many times I won't bore you with all the details but you should know that there was time I couldn't run a full mile without having to walk so I have definately come a long way.
Shan I don't mind you asking at all. I tried to start back about 8 weeks after surgery and it got pretty sore (but I was doing WAY too much WAY too soon). I just within the last month - so it would be about 10 to 12 weeks after have I been able to really start back. Again there are still times, like today it's a little rough after that run yesterday but then I will just back off for a day or two. Every week gets a little better. It felt like FOREVER!!!!

Gotta go back to work.

Hey Everyone!

Shan - Yes, we joined Lifetime Fitness. Dh was very impressed with the place. He has needed a place to swim year round and this place seems perfect for him. We are both excited about the fact that they really encourage heartrate training.

As for training after surgery, it really depends on the type of surgery. I had some surgery done on my diaphram a few years ago and I was not able to workout for 4 months. Of course, sitting up in bed FELT like exercise so it was all relative. My sister had her gallbladder removed and played tennis two weeks later. Be sure to talk to your Doctor and be specific.

Angie - WTG on that run! I love it when its fun AND you feel fast. But you didn't just feel fast, you were fast! Great job!

Good Morning all!!

Working in a beach resort at the height of high season.... that gets me an automatic LTO exemption for the last few weeks, right?

I'm getting back in the saddle and hitting the roads this afternoon after the gym... I'm hoping for four or five miles, but we will see how it goes. I am not really feeling 100%... I think the cold bug I have been managing to avoid around work might be creeping up on me. I definately need to break in my new running shoes, though!!

Which reminds me... my PSA to all WISHers--- when you are ready to trade in those running shoes for a new pair, get thee to a running store and get fitted. I did two weeks ago and... well, I'm very lucky. Turns out that I'm a pretty decent supinator and every running shoe that I've used to date has not been built for that at all! I was at the store for almost an hour and tried on 8 (yes, EIGHT) pairs of shoes and picked up a pair of Brooks that should hopefully help matters. My chiropracter said if I had been running for three years without proper shoes, it's a small miracle I hadn't been injured yet. SO... get fitted!

I'm officially in for Minnie this year, so I get to be-bop up to Orlando    for a short visit with many of you good folks.

I am currently trying to figure out what my plan is past Minnie.... Living in South Florida means there are not many races in the summer (would YOU run in a blast furnace??), so I'm considering possibly trying to do a fall marathon as a part of my Goofy training. I will definately put in for the NYC lottery again, if I get in I'll probably defer to 2009.... I am considering doing the Twin Cities in early October, but that's the weekend before RFTT so I would only be able to do one or the other.... Any thoughts? Think it's worthwhile to try and squeeze a full in during my Goofy training?

I'm hoping to finish my long overdue race report from Goofy and post it tonight. That sucker is L-O-N-G, so I'm trying to edit it down a bit. It is getting redundant, though... there are only so many synonyms for "humid" and "completely exhausted."

Have a great one!
Kevin :earsboy:

hey everyone! Thanks for all the good wishes. I'm doing better as long as I stay still, but if I try to get up and move around too much, I have coughing fits. I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever run again.

Kevin...great to see you around here! You'll LOVE training in S FL in the summer ;)

Welcome Mike! Definitely say hi to Maggie...I was one of the folks in Chicago, too!

I feel like I haven't been around here in months. So what have y'all been up to?

Hey guys!

Mel...Glad you're feeling a bit better!

Kevin...I totally agree on the shoes! It's a great to be able to get fitted!

Angie...Great run girl!

For me...LTO!!! I was working from a different facility last week. Then we were off to WV this past weekend. I did NOT ski as I broke my leg last time and it's a wee bit difficult to run on a broken leg so I did not want to chance it. I much more of a beach girl anyway. I did get in some good XT on the bike in the FC they had there. I missed my 4 miler on Sunday though. I know they say you should not try to make up missed runs, but I really feel like I need to try to get it in tonight. I guess I'll decide once I get home.

It was super cold there. We had the fire going...It was windy and 10 degrees outside. Apparently it was so windy, it pushed the smoke from the fireplace into the condo! ugh!!! It was horrible! Everything smelled like smoke. I got home and started unpacking and even the clothes are stinky so I'll be washing everything!!!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Greetings Race Team -

I'm really sad to report that for the first time since I started training over two and a half years ago...I missed a L/R. I can't believe this. I had seven miles scheduled for Saturday which just did not happen. And I'll tell you why.

Saturday morning we had to leave early to go to a Bar Mitzvah. I decided to defer my L/R until Sunday morning because I just didn't have time. After being at the Bar Mitzvah all day Saturday we got home around 6:00pm and were pretty tired. So we went to bed fairly early. At 1:15am we were woken up by the sound of whinnying, which usually does not occur at night. So I get out of bed, get dressed and go outside with a flashlight to see what is going on. The wind was crazy, as it had been all day. Then I see hoofprints on the front lawn. Uh oh, this isn't good. Then I see Emily looking towards the back yard and whinnying. I walked around the house and there was Mist in the back yard. Somehow she had gotten loose. She was all wound up from the wind and the freedom and also scared from not being used to being loose, so she was running all over the yard. Which of course, since we had so much rain, was all soft. So now our yard looks like the moon, from her hoof prints in the mud and the sliding stops she did all over the place. And we have a VIP Visitor coming in three weeks! UGH. :headache:

Anyway, I got her in, using a can of grain and getting her to follow me because there was no way she was going to let me put a halter and lead on her. Then Charlie and I grabbed flashlights walked the fence line to find where she got out. One of our neighbor's trees had fallen over into my paddock and took two sections of fence completely down, and knocked out two boards on three other sections! So, between 1:30am and 3:15am Sunday morning we were outside, in the cold and crazy wind, cutting up a tree and repairing the fence.

Needless to say, when the alarm went off Sunday morning I just could not get up to do my L/R. :guilty: Then it just never happened. We were busy cleaning up the mess. Then went to see a friend in Julius Caesar.

And there you have it. That is why I missed my L/R for the first time. And I am not happy about it. :sad2:

So this morning I made myself run for the entire 45 min of my Monday morning workout. The last five minutes were really hard but you know what? I did it! Whooo hoo! :woohoo: I am very happy about that anyway.

Mel - I'm sorry you weren't feeling well but Jeff did a great job pitch hitting. :)

Craig and Martha - Have a fab-u-lous time!!! :yay: Jealous jealous jealous...

Jen - OK, I'm going right now! :flower3:

Angie - You go girl! :thumbsup2 Whoooo hoooo!

Vic - I missed it. What is Marilyn doing for the entire race team? Whatever it is, sign me up. :upsidedow

Kevin - You're killing me with this race report, you know. popcorn::

Judy

You have many opportunities for long runs this year, but very few cases like Sunday morning when your babies need you. I certainly think you were justified bagging it yesterday. And running 45 minutes straight today? You're becoming "Judy the Jet." Or is that Judy Jetson?

Thanks for the well wishes. Martha's probably more revved up about high tea overlooking Hyde Park. Me? That's an easy one, its the football match Sunday afternoon, Everton v. Fulham at Craven Cottage. I'll put down a 5-er for you at Ladbrokes. They even take sporting wagers inside the stadium grounds. Hopefully we can make enough on the bet to pay for the trip.

Last year when Lesley and I saw a match, the unthinkable happened, Tottenham's goalkeeper scored a goal. All I could think of was "I could have gotten 100-1 against that happening, and if I'd put down 10 pounds I could have paid for the whole trip." I wonder if it could happen again . . .

I'm so excited! I finally took my rings in to get resized. (For those that don't remember, I lost my wedding band and then later found it in the trashcan! :scared1: )

I went from a size 4.5 to a size 3.5!
So obviously I have lost weight, just not in my tummy. :headache:
Now how I can be five pounds heavier than I was before Christmas and my finger be so much smaller is beyond me...
Five pounds muscle?!?

I talked DH into getting the same setting in white gold instead of yellow gold, too. :thumbsup2

Angie and Cecilia, I'm thinking again about getting my stomach muscles repaired (Was told my GYN they are no longer attached. Had two c-sections.) and getting some skin cut off. Both my babies were huge and I'm so short - my tummy is a mess. I'm just wondering how long it will take me to build back up to where I'm at now. We're signed up for the next Donald. It just doesn't seem like any time is a good time. :confused3

Hi team...

Well....didn't get much skiing in today despite plans otherwise. Got the dreaded loudspeaker announcement on the mountain today "will the parent of Jane Doe please report...". Yep...my DD10 had an accident on her snowboard and broke her wrist. Thankfully it was just her wrist. Unfortunately...she plays competitive travelling fast pitch softball...:sad2: ....season opener is just weeks away. It's a TOTAL bummer. It's a relatively minor break...but it's her writing hand...her trumpet playing hand (spring concert just weeks away)....her throwing hand (softball)...you get the idea. Gonna' be a very long several weeks. *sigh* I'm feeling really bummed out right now...this has been the vacation from "you know what". Jinxed trip from the start with the crazy winds and power outages and flooding rains. I wasn't feeling well yesterday...now I'm sick to my stomach over my poor kids' bad luck. Again...with this sport it could have been MUCH MUCH worse. I am so thankful she's in one piece and wasn't carried away in an ambulance. I just have to focus on the good. I think it's going to be a very long drive home tomorrow :(.

OK....sorry to be such a downer. Rant over ;).

Shan: Congrats on the ring resizing. That is awesome news!!! :goodvibes

Craig & Martha: Sounds like an awesome trip. I have family just outside London and it's one of my favorite cities!! :thumbsup2

Kevin: Nice to see you!

Angie: Awesome run girl!!!! :)

Judy...So sorry to hear about you missing your long run. What a night!

Yay Shan!!! My...you have some tiny fingers!!!

Amy...OMG!!! I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. I know your heart must have fell to your feet. To her, I'm sure it is very tramatic. My heart goes out to her. But, you are right. It could have been worse and she could have been carried away in an ambulance and believe me... that is NO FUN! Been there, done that...broke leg (tib/fib)...crutches, brace, getting married with a half broken leg... I wish that upon no one! I wish her the best and a speedy recovery (for her and for you too!) :wizard:

Hey, everyone! I went MIA over the weekend because of an out-of-town friend dropped by for a little eating, a little drinking, and a lot of socializing! :goodvibes So I got behind on reading my WISH friends' posts. I can't possibly respond to everyone, but so many of you had great weekends! :cool1: I'll just respond to a few posts from last week's thread.

Jeff: Thanks for posting this week's thread. Mel, hang in there & feel better soon! :yay:

The WISH Team: DOOD is in the same place many of your partners are: slightly bemused at the WISH thing, but tolerant and even encouraging of my Disney obsession. He had nothing but good things to say about those WISHers he met during the Goofy, though, and he's all for me signing up for races even if they are at Disney. I'm trying to encourage him to wear our team colors, but I might need to settle for his attendance at the odd WISH meet.

Angie: You ARE Irongirl, I christen thee! And I christen thee Irongirl again, especially after your speedy LR!

Aloha Jeff: Great job with the running clinic & the Girl Scout cookie selling. I bet you could combine the two events & the Princesses would make out like bandits. I know I could do with a few cookies after a run! ;) Loved the clinic article, btw, and found it very much in the spirit of so many of your posts.

I just read your update on the clinic. Wow--that's a lot of people. You're so generous with your time & experience! :upsidedow

Carrie: Great run, great pace, great work with the Chi arms! More dancing bananas for you!

Judy: Yea for the return of the training mojo. Double yea for the DVC! :cool1: I sympathize with your missing your LR. The situation must have been exhausting for you and terrifying for Mist. I hope your yard can be cleaned up, mostly, by the time your VIP visitor arrives. And congrats for doing the 45-minute run today!

Anne: WTG with the negative splits!

Kristi: Awww, I'm sorry you're so stressed out, but very happy that you're taking positive steps to alleviate what stress you can--even if it means dropping the team challenge. I know you made the right decision for you, at this time, and can't wait to hear updates on all the good things that I just know will be coming your way.

Shannon: We welcome you--and your dog Krush--to WISH. Thanks for the race report!

Dave: Beer, I understand. But scratching? What, does the panda have fleas??? :rolleyes1

Craig: Being able to run side by side with DOOD is one of the things I really like about the TM because I can't really keep pace with him on the open road. I'm glad you and Martha enjoy a similar experience.

Mike: DOOD (My DH) & I used Cytomax during the Goofy. I'm not experienced enough to know if it did its job, but DH is convinced enough to continue to use it for his training. It seemed to help his recovery time & was recommended to us by an endurance friend of his.

Amy: I'll pass on your Carnation suggestion to DOOD. It does remind me that one of his favorite post-LR drinks is a Frappuccino. And you do make running around the mud/puddles obstacles sound like fun...almost. :rolleyes1

Aloha Jeff, Shan, Amy: Good luck with GS cookie distribution. I'm just glad you don't live around me, because I couldn't resist them.

Martha: Have fun in London, although I do have to say the phrase "walking the streets of London" conjured up very specific images for me....of Jack the Ripper, of course. What did you think I meant? ;)

Casey: WTG with filling out your race schedule. I love the Cool Running site! :thumbsup2

Terri: Yea for the test & the upcoming promotion! More Disney races, always a good thing.

Cecilia: It sounds like your new gym will help you with your training. :woohoo: I hear good things about Lifetime Fitness.

Jen: Thanks for heads up on the Garmin/Aldi sale. Sounds tempting, although I've got my eye on another model...:scratchin

TiggerJeff: Great pace and so soon after your 1/2! You and Mel both deserve queso dip.

SamSam: I feel the same way you do--WISH inspires me to be the best athlete, the best version of me, that I can be.

Kevin: I haven't done RFTT. And although I've only been a spectator at the Twin Cities race, I can say it's a scenic course & filled with enthusiastic specators (according to my DH).

Mel: You're up and around! Yeah!! Now where's my share of the queso dip?

Stacie: Good for you for playing it safe with the leg while in WV. It sounded like a relaxing weekend, except for the weather and the smoky fireplace. But you got in some solid XT! :thumbsup2

Amy:  for your DD & her broken wrist. I'm glad it wasn't more serious but it's still scary & I do think she'll have a much longer recovery than the calendar says. I hope you're both doing okay, now that the initial shock and worry are passing.

As for me: I'm now officially in the last week of C25K, although I need to keep adding time to get to the 5K distance! I think it's really going to help me with the Cleveland Half, which I plan to RW. In even better news, I think I convinced our weekend visitor to give running a try. I speak with all the fervor of the converted, so I might have made an overly strong case, but at least his eyes didn't glaze over!:rotfl2: He's the second person I've talked into trying running, and the first person is going to let me know when his small town has a summer 5K that we can both do together. I figure running + friends = a great excuse for weekend getaways!

Hi Everyone:flower3:

I am very overwhelmed with work but I want to keep up this week.

Mel I REALLY hope you are better soon. There is so much crud floating around my church, family and work!!! Maybe it's this crazy weather down here. 80 one day 60 the next.!!! :confused3
Stacie Sorry about your clothes!! That stinks. I hope you got your run in and I know exactly what you mean about wanting to make up for it.
Judy OOOHHH my goodness, I'm so sorry!!! That's a horrible experience!!! Congratulations on the run today
Shan You do have tiny fingers. I had 2 c-sections too, but I did not not have a problem with muscles being detached, is that common? I'm reallly sorry for you that stinks. That's cool about DH ring too, my DH and I did that a few years back too.
Amy I'm sorry about your daughter, I'm glad she is ok but that is reallya bummer about the hand and softball :grouphug:
Debra Running + friends makes for the perfect weekend get away that's why I like running with DH so much, became our weekend get aways. Funny about the Irongirl thing, I was thinking after my run Sunday that I am SOOOOOO running that Irongirl.

NOTHING for me today. My back is pretty good today considering what I put it through yesterday, my left hip flexor was really sore :confused3

The bad thing is because of work issues I don't know if I will get to run (or do anything) until Thursday, I WAS ON SUCH A ROLL!!!

Have a good night everyone!!!

Judy - Oh No! I hope Mist has recovered from her scary night. I think you can count cutting the tree and fixing the fence as cross-training. And you get extra points because it was in the wee hours in the cold!

Amy - so sorry to hear about DD's accident. When I was in 8th grade, something similar happened to me (though not skiing). I was playing basketball and fell over someone and broke my wrist - 3 weeks bfore softball season. I was so bummed. When they cut my cast down to below the elbow, I worked at getting a glove on (my catching hand). I couldn't convince the coach to let me play though ;) . Hope DD heals up soon.

Judy - :worship: 2.5 years of not missing a LR, wow. Recently I am doing good if I can go 2.5 weeks in a row.:rolleyes1 Glad the horses are good and they must have felt that if you weren't going to get out more, then they would. :lmao:

Mel - Hope you are feeling better soon.

Craig and Martha - Have fun and try not to do anything that will land you on the local news here. ;) If you do get on the news, make sure it was for something worthy enough.

Angie - Great job on the run. You are doing great. Hope your back and leg feel better. Don't push it too much and reinjure something. You have done too good to get hurt now.

Debra - Great job getting to the end of the program. Keep up the good work recruiting people as well.

Amy - So sorry to hear about DD. Hope she has a speedy recovery. Although now she can fend off all the boys swooning over her. ;)

Shan - Congrats on having to get the rings resized. It is great to see results like that.

SamSam - Glad that we could convert you. We do a great job at finding things that make this free sport expensive. :rolleyes1

Stacie - Glad you had a nice time in the mountains. Hope the smell comes out quickly.

Kevin - Glad to see you back and that you signed up for Minnie. Temperature wise should be a little cooler than blast furnace but not by much.

Vic - Our squirrel guard has a fit if there is one in a 2 block radius of our house. :lmao: We do have one that likes to mock him and climbs on the porch screen and stays there until the barking begins, then he slowly moves off taunting him the entire way.

TiggerJeff - You are making Mel cook for you while she is sick. :rotfl2: Beware or she might cough in your dip.

HawaiiJeff - Glad you had fun in your clinic. Hope that number of people stick with it for a while. Although 1900 boxes of cookies are a little too much to eat. :lmao: We will be glad to sacrifice and take any thin mints that may cause too much temptation. :rolleyes1

Terri - Good to see you. Hope things calm down a little for you.

I took yesterday off since my legs were sore. Not sure why but this morning my throat was a little sore so I may be getting what Lynnda has now, which would explain the sore legs. She is soooooo nice to share it with me. Seeing as how I can get a little grumpy when sick, I warned her about getting me sick so I guess she is ready for the grumpiness. :lmao:

Hi everyone...Thank you all so much for the well-wishes for my DD :goodvibes . She is doing surprisingly well this morning. She's definitely a trooper..I'm amazed how well she's handled everything. I forgot to mention to you guys that she also sprained her left wrist!!! So both arms are casted...only the one is removable and she heal very quickly! Also...just so you guys don't think I"m a bad parent LOL...the reason she wasn't with me on the mountain was because she was in an all day snowboarding camp, getting lessons and riding with other kids her age and ability. Thought maybe I should clear that up!!! LOL!

No training to report for the past few days...but hopefully when we get back home later today I can get some exercise in.

Chi Running....I meant to report that i used some techniques on my saturday LR. I have to say that I really can feel the difference!!! It all makes so much sense to me...in a way it's similar to what I teach in Pilates so that helps!!!

Debra: Sounds like a FUN weekend :).

Bill: good luck fighting off the illness...best thing to do is rest! Take care of yourself!

Stacie: Thanks girl  . I know you know all too well about skiing accidents :(. You stayed off the slopes last weekend right?

Hey team. Sorry I've been MIA but I'm just in a major funk right now. No event to train for (first time in over 2 years), hard time carving out workout time, and just ready for Spring. To top it off during my workout yesterday I had some severe hip pain in one leg and knee pain in the other. Praying it was just a bad day. Hope everyone else is doing well. Will try to keep up better this week!

Good morning WISHers!

Hoping everyone is having a great Tuesday. Its rainy today in NW Florida.

Vic - I missed it. What is Marilyn doing for the entire race team? Whatever it is, sign me up.

She found a couple of shadow boxes at Downtown Disney and put my bib, picture and medals from the 5K and Marathon in them. I think they're pretty cool. :thumbsup2 I posted the pictures in last weeks thread.

Sorry to hear about your ordeal on Sunday morning. We had one of the neighbor's trees fall on the house a few years ago during a tropical storm. Took down part of the privacy fence and put a nice divet in the roof. Always makes for a nice day of cleanup and repair. Glad the animals are ok.

Vic - Our squirrel guard has a fit if there is one in a 2 block radius of our house. We do have one that likes to mock him and climbs on the porch screen and stays there until the barking begins, then he slowly moves off taunting him the entire way.

I've actually seen them walk right next to Earnhardt. He gives them a look and goes back to sleep. Dusty jogs towards them until they run away, and then he's down for the count too. :lmao:

Whatever happened to MikeOptimator and NEPFBill? :confused3 I don't get picked on anymore. :upsidedow

Did 40 min on the TM this morning. I feel very stale. I think I lost my mojo again. :guilty: I have eight on tap Saturday - which I am doing NO MATTER WHAT - and it looks like heavy rains. :headache:

Craig - Oh you are too kind. My 45 min run wasn't all that impressive. It's not like I was Mrs Speedy or anything. But thanks. And here's that 5-er! :teeth:

Amy - Oh no! Oh the poor thing. I hope she's not in too much pain.

Angie - Take a rest day. You're doing SO WELL let's not risk a back injury. :thumbsup2

OriginalBill - Awww shucks. Thanks. I hate that I missed it though. It's really nagging at me. Gosh, I just can't imagine you grumpy, sick or not.

Vic - Oh how nice of her! :teeth:

Mel - Goodness!! I hope you feel better and get rid of the "major respiratory crud"!!

Jeff - Let's not talk about Girl Scout cookies.... I have gained 20 lbs since the Full in January!!

Vic - You have the labs right? I think I remember us talking about that on the way to the start of the full. My labs are bad at chasing squirrels too. The worst one though is the Chocolate Lab (Delilah) who actually brought me a baby squirrel that had fallen from it's nest!!

Angie - AWESOME JOB!! AWESOME PACE!!

Kevin - If you need an exemption for the last few weeks LTO... then I am in BIG trouble!!

Judy - I think you had a pretty good reason for missing your LR, alot better than the reasons I have missed most of mine.

Amy - So sorry to hear about DD. I bet she is not a happy camper!! Here's hoping she heals quickly and can get back to everything she wants to do!!

Debra - I can get DH to wear the WISH colors, but he is NOT so big on me doing all the Disney races. I actually had to agree to forego all Disney races this year and do some local stuff for a while to keep the peace in our house!!

Stephanie - I'll tell you what!! If you keep up this week I will too!! I actually am feeling better knowing I am not the only one who has had NO time for anything lately.

I am so sorry for the fact that I have been gone so long. I have missed talking to everyone so much. I have also realized just how much you guys keep me motivated. I have crashed and burned on almost all of my excersizing since January and gained somewhere between 15-20 lbs!! So here I am, back on track and back with my team!! I am making it a point to come in here everyday and post my progress and keep in touch with everyone!!

John and Karen - Hope you guys are ok. You've been awfully quiet.

ChiArms - Basically, you move them by "gently twisting your spine" instead of back and forth. DOn't cross your belly button or anything. Just gentle. It's a pendulum-type motion. Helped me get my legs shorter. They're supposed to be shaped liek you're holding a big ball too.

Hi, gang....
I could never be so organized as to respond to all the posts so far, so...good job to everybody! or hugs if you or your kid or spouse is hurt or sick. Does that pretty much cover it? :lmao:

For Mike? who asked about recovery drinks....the cheapest is good ol' chocolate milk. It has that 4:1 carb:protein ratio and is readily available. (I get the reduced fat version.) As for commercial products, I really like the Clif recovery drink mixes (mango orange? I think, and vanilla)

During long exercise, I'll have gels or accelerade or carbopro. I don't tend to do any calorie replacement unless I'm out over an hour. If less than an hour, just water, or sometimes water with Nuun (for electrolytes). Feel free to ask any specifics.

I was at WDW this past weekend, so although I did a lot of tourist walking, I can't count any exercise, so have to step it up this week. Was going to run and/or swim out there, but we were tired. Plus, the weather was not fun. Big rain on Friday evening, cold and windy on Saturday. A little better during the day on Sunday, but still cool Sun/Mon. I think I wore shorts more often for marathon weekend in January!

See ya...

Angie/Irongirl: (Just love that name.) I'm thinking you might be able to do the Irongirl & would really like the challenge. Again, I'm not a doctor & don't play one on TV, but maybe it would be a way to celebrate all the obstacles you've overcome. Even if you're not as speedy as you'd like to be--even if you are speedy in my mind--with the hills and all? And if you don't want to be tempted, just ignore this post. :thumbsup2

Bill: Here's hoping your leg soreness & throat soreness pass quickly & are unrelated. :goodvibes

Amy: Your DD sounds just as strong & resilient as her mother! And it never entered my mind that you could be a bad mom. Actually, my first thought was, "Wow, that's one accomplished kid!" Good news on the Chi Runnng front--I'm working on the leaning exercises & the arm swing (while walking). I do think they work and I'm looking forward to trying things out when I run.

Stephanie:  I hope the hip/knee pain is fleeting & that Spring pops up like crocuses for you soon. I'm sure that will help you feel better.

Vic: Apparently it's a lot of work being a squirrel guard, and not everybody's into the effort. My cats, who were up to about 6 months ago 100%, have seen squirrels not 5 feet away from them and were terrified by the strange creatures. Then, when the squirrels ignored them, not even taunting my cats with a coy tail wave, my two spoiled felines returned to what really interested them--eating grass. So much for their natural predatory instincts.

Judy: Oh, I hope it doesn't rain for your 8-miler. And congrats for sticking with your 40 minutes on the TM, despite feeling a little stale.

Dana: Glad to see you back in the swing of things. For DOOD and me, Disney & races are the perfect compromise. When I first met him, I always knew running was a non-negotiable part of his life. And he knew it was the same with me and Disney. Neither one of us could have predicted the happy convergence of the two, but we're so glad it happened. Now we have the Reese's of relationships: two great tastes that taste great together!

Carrie: Have you notice how the Chi Running arms seem to be working with deepening your breathing, much like yoga poses that I can't remember the names of? And wow. I'm impressed how you've managed to stay active after a weekend getaway. And :yay: for keeping on track with post-marathon training. Do try to get some good rest, though.

Betsy: I simply must give you much thanks and applause for encouraging me to drink chocolate milk. :worship: More tips along those lines, please! Seriously, thanks for confirming what DOOD and I find out pretty much through trial and error.

Aloha Jeff: I see. So eating Girl Scout cookies is actually good for me?? Hmmm...:scratchin Now, if you could just give me the carb/protein ratio argument, like Betsy did, I might be convinced. I know I WANT to be convinced--does that count? :rotfl2:

Shan: You're doing hill work! Impressive! Keep up all the good running!

As for me: Nothing major, just some XT and circuit training today. I'd bore you with how frustrated I get with circuit jumpers & machine sitters, but I suspect many of you know the feeling.

Hi Everyone-

I ran 8 today. It was tough since I am struggling with some strange vague leg pain. Hopefully it is just diet related and a couple of days of eating better will fix me up. I am one of those strange people that can forget to eat and I have not been eating much lately. At least, I hope that is all that is wrong.

I used to drink a big glass of milk after every run. Perhaps I should try choclate milk.

Shan - I had to have muscles reattached too. I think it depends on how they do the surgery as to how long the recovery takes. My surgery was up near my lungs and even breathing normally hurt for weeks so I can't compare with what you are going to get done. I know the first time I went grocery shopping after my surgery, I had to stop and rest twice.

Just poppin' in. Saw the post about chocolate milk for post race. Yum! I've had 1-2 glasses of choc milk after the last 3 WDW races. As soon as I get back to the room, while waiting for my ice bath to fill, it's choc. milk time!

OK, gotta get back to work!

Vic - Squirrel guard can be a full-time job, but it is VERY exhausting. Mystic must sleep at least 20 hours a day to recover from the effort. She did actually catch one once. It was only a baby, and she didn't actually kill it immediately, but did inflict fatal injuries. She was so proud of herself, and DD was screaming hysterically. I don't think she's ever recovered!

Judy - What an experience! Definitely an excused absence from the LR in my book. And plenty of people seem to have lost their mojo - you are not alone.

Amy - More :grouphug: for your DD! Never even occurred to me that you were a negligent mom!

Carrie - You guys have cost me more money. We were in Barnes & Noble Friday night and I wandered into the running section and somehow came out with Chi Running. Don't know how that happened... :confused3 Gotta finish my library book before I start it, though.

My teammates know I've been suffering from a lack of mojo for the past few weeks. Did not run the half last weekend due to bad weather (race reports confirmed that I made the right decision - not only was there torrential rain and horrible wind, there was also hail :scared1:. They said while crossing the bridge they actually were moving backwards.) I hadn't run in 3 1/2 weeks, but I made it out this afternoon and did 3.7 miles. Walked the first half mile, then did 2R/1W to take it easy, but ended up doing the next 2 miles faster than normal! Am planning to do a 5K this weekend to get back into things, then if that goes well will do a local half on April 5th.

Good evening WISHers!

3 miles on the TM this evening. Wish I had something more to report. :confused3

Dana - Welcome back! We had a baby squirrel fall out of a tree last year. The boys were scared of it. :rotfl:

Judy and Carrie - I don't know why Marilyn takes such good care of me. I'm a pain in the butt to live with. :rolleyes1 :lmao:

Debra - I feel your pain. :rotfl2:

Jackie - I know how exhausting squirrel patrol can be. :lmao:

Hi WISH Team! Seems like we need get well WISHes to several of us and DDs too.

Mel, I do WISH you will be ok real soon. Scary stuff.

Shan, good luck with the procedure. My friend had something similar done, she was lifting weights pretty seriously and beginning her running program. After the surgery, she came to a stanstill for at least 6 weeks with a slow build up from there.

Me, with my recent surgery has me ok to walk but absolutely nothing else. I will see him again at the 7-week mark. I expect to hear that I can begin upping the pace, I'm not sure about any weights/ab work I think that will be out for quite some time yet. I also complained to my doc that this recent surgery should have automaticallhy tucked in the overhang I have. (2 c-secs later and family heritage.) He laughed and said it seems to be a common request. I'm thinking well, duh

Debra, amazing you are doing the Cleveland event and I will not be in town to cheer you along. I do WISH that you enjoy the event, I've never participated in it and it does intrigue me.

Craig, have a great time across the pond. I know you will.

Vic, the shadow boxes that Marilyn made are really nice. Great job.

Judy, I think you missing that LR was replaced by a lot more work and I'm so glad that the girls hung around waiting for you to get them back into the corral.

AlohaJeff, man you are one busy guy. Ooooh and thin mints! I liked that! We still need to find our local Girl Scouts so we can participate in the Rite of Spring. We always buy those cookies.

Magslite/Mike--great to have you here. I'm a Chicago acquaintance too. Tell Maggie Hi and I bet those fine young ones you've got have been keeping you both quite busy.

Thanks for asking the question too.

It looks like Chocolate Milk will be the official drink of the WISH Team! Mmmm!

I got some steps in today 3 miles and took it easy though. I kept it at not more than 15 min/mile on TM for but the first mile was much slower warm-up pace at 16+. We got hammered by that snow with 21 inches and today it's been melting away. Weather is hopefully going to cause it to be significantly melted by the end of the week.

Sorry to those I've missed. It's not intentional. I'm flying from memory.

Hey WISHERS:

My Tuesday interval speed workout -

1 mile warm up, followed by 10 x 300 's sprints with 50 yard walking intervals, and finished with a 2 mile jog. Not a long distance training day, but my ticker was going full speed. :mickeyjum My training partners thought I was trying to kill them. LOL, I wasn't.

I had to take care of some errands, and pick up the Princesses, get them home, fed, bathed, and off to Dreamland.

Have a good Wednesday everyone!

Oh, Yum! :goodvibes So I'm supposed to drink chocolate milk with Thin Mints for training and recovery! :goodvibes Sounds perfect to me.

So THAT'S what I have been doing wrong all these years! I will gladly add chocolate milk and thin mints to my post-run recovery! I just received the first box of thin mints in what I have been told is the first of many cookie shipments - the difficulty is going to be sharing them with the rest of my unit. I can always say that I am in training and require the thin mints for absolute performance - they can have the tagalongs and peanut butter sandwiches! :rolleyes1

Had a fast 7 miles on Sunday and an easier paced 5 miles last night in smokey conditions unfortunately, but at least I ground it out. Hope everyone who has posted about injuries is healing fast and fighting the urge to get out there too quickly. It's frustrating, but it's best to wait until the body is ready before jumping back into the routine too fast. Time to get back to the work of the day.

My 5 miler last night turned into 3 miles. I forgot to bring my asthma inhaler to the gym and was not able to take it preemptively. Which meant I was having a hard time in my first running interval. At that point, I decided to just walk and cut it back to 3 miles. I was tired as usual. And Chad was at the gym with me and he's having IT band issues.

Speaking of asthma & inhalers - I will take a picture of the holder thingie from CVS and post it sometime. I think Vic was asking about it awhile back.

OriginalBill - Awww shucks. Thanks. I hate that I missed it though. It's really nagging at me. Gosh, I just can't imagine you grumpy, sick or not.

Lynnda will attest to the grumpiness. :lmao: I think she dreads me not feeling well and would rather lock me up in the room until I feel better.

Bill - Sorry you're sick. Did I miss an update on Timmy> Did the new drug work?

We can't tell right now if it worked. He generally seems happy but is still pulling on his ears and screams every now and then. On the other hand, he is also teething so I can't tell what pain is related to the teeth and what is related to the ears.

Dana - Good to see you back.

I did get out last night for a little bike ride. I felt decent afterwards but it started to rain towards the end of it causing me to get back to the house faster than I had planned.

This is Mike, Maggies DH...I took the plunge and registered.

Yesterday was 60 minutes on the elliptical.

This morning was 45 minute swim...not really 1.2 miles, just 40 separate attempts to not drown...followed by 30 minute run.

Everything I have been reading seems to say you want simple carbs and protein within an hour of completing the workout. Peanut butter and a bagel seem to work nicely...I'll try the chocolate milk, but I'm not much of a milk drinker.

Have a great day all!

Looks like the weekly thread has really slowed down. Sad...:guilty:

Today was a rest day for me, so no training to report. Other than smooshing down divots from 5:30 until 8:00 last night. I don't think yard will ever look the same. Grrr.

Kristi - Ah ha! There you are....Well, did you get it yet????? Oh no, so sorry to hear about Chad's ITB issues. Maybe he needs a foam roller. Despite SOME PEOPLE'S wise acre comments, I think it works GREAT for my ITBs. Hurt like heck when you're doing it, but then they don't bother me at all any other time.

So I'm sitting here at work at lunch and eating the "official training food of WISH" (2 Thin Mints--my allowance!). Soon, I'm off to MuscleMax at the club--sounds scary. Allowing myself a midday workout since I have a meeting with Australia this PM that will run overtime. That's the challenge with working global--it's even crazier when I do the one with US, Sweden, Israel, Russia, China, Korea, Australia, Canada, and India all at once! (Tomorrow at 7 am)

Cecilia I cannot imagine going more than 2-3 hours without eating--would get too cranky if I did!

I've also joined the chocolate milk train--keep a little milk box in the car in the am to drink after a workout on the way into work. Yum!

TigerLily Glad to see you're able to workout. And thank you for taking the hit on the snow (we dodged it here in SE Michigan)

Kevin Glad you got your Thin Mints (my favorites). Did you get those from home, or through some organized program? The troop that I bought mine from was collecting to send some to soldiers, so at least once box will wing its way over from me.

Ran outside today-it is beautiful. I did 5 miles about 9:15/mile. My nike+ is a little off. On the TM I do a mile and it reads 1.05. I could recalibrate it, but heck if I'm doing more now at the pace it says then I figure I can only be happy when I run the Minnie Marathon and do better than I think I doing. Now, did that make any sense.:confused3

Can I be an old peep? Canni, canni, Canni?

Lily, I'm sure you are chomping at the bit (see :cool2: a tip to Judy and her 2 girls) to up the pace, but remember we all want to see you early in the morning of May 4, in the starting corrals. Do build your strength, don't get hurt (you notice I did not say don't be dumb and get hurt, since that is my speciality).

Kristi

Yes, is stinks when the asthma rears up when you start a workout. Occasionally I have to just step off since I'm unable to expand my lungs. And to this day I still forget to take it with me more often than not.

Bill

I really feel for you all fighting Timmy's ears. We certainly went through that, and the solution was those darn tubes. Instant relief. I don't think Lesley even knew what had happened to her, but Martha nearly blew a gasket it in the short period between when they took her baby out or her arms, and then returned that precious cargo.

Dana

It is good to see you again. Even with you taking the past weeks off, I know you could blow my doors off in a race.

Joan

I think you have that reversed. You actually run 1.0 and the Nike+ shows 1.05. In the Minnie 15K that translates to running 9.32 and the Nike showing 9.80. Alternately, when the Nike+ shows you've run 15K, on the course you'll be around mile 8.85.

I know lots of the folks race with their Garmins, but I could never do that. I can hear my internal dialogue right now, "my garmin says 10 miles, okay where is that bleep-bleep-bleepity-bleep 10 mile marker? If I don't see it soon, I'm gonna hurt someone."

Today is rain, and just now some amazing large flakes of snow, thankfully none sticking. I was on the treadmill early this am, did 8 easy miles in 79minutes. I'd like a couple of 9's in my legs before the 15K, in addition to the speed work I'll use to sharpen on as the race gets closer.

Best

lot of our old WISH buddies are hanging out at the Philly thread. :sad1: Well Queen Judy, I am glad you're still referring to us as friends:hug: . Actually, my lack of posting on either thread is merely due to my running funk as of late. Our Philly thread has slowed down considerably as well. I do try to lurk but even that has not been happening recently. As a fellow NY'er you have to understand the brutal winter has really taken it's toll on motivation. I will try to post once I feel like a real runner again on an actual training plan. Are you planning on running the NYC 1/2 on 7/27? Some of us MCM/Philly folk are putting our names in for the lottery:thumbsup2 . You and Charlie should plan on it:banana: . BTW, I LOVE my foam roller!! I know Colleen (Theta formerly princessmomma) has one and loves it as well. Thanks for the video link.

Hi Sara...nice to see ya...and we all know you're a runner girl...but I completely understand how injuries and set backs make us feel otherwise! I know what you mean about this winter killing motivation. I'm struggling this week big time :(. Was looking forward to running today but the wind is quite brutal...so that should be fun ;).

Judy...I saw those Lands End workout pants too! If you buy them let me know what you think! :thumbsup2

Craig...NICE run! I think you'll be MORE than ready to run a strong race in May. When are you leaving for London?

Chi Runners....Last night I had a dream about Chi Running! :rotfl: I think I've been reading that book a bit TOO MUCH!!! I dreamt about the forward leaning and how I kept thinking I was going to fall over! :rotfl2:

Bill...I hope the new meds do the trick for Timmy. You've had quite a winter with him and his poor ears :(.

As for me...Ugh...training has been really rough the past few days. Between being away...my DD's injury...etc etc....I just haven't done much of anything. :sad2: It's soooo frustrating...I feel miserable but my motivation seems to have evaporated. Hopefully a good run later on today will kickstart my week.

Craig you confused me...I ran on the TM last week and it said 3.15 miles and my nike + said 3 miles. So I thought running outside I was going farther than what it said on the nike+. I hate looking at the TM and cover the info thinking that every two song will be about a mile, but I looked at it last week to see how accurate my nike+ was.

I don't plan on running with it at Disney-just look for mile markers and listen to times called out.

Chad & I just watched the video of the foam roller. He probably needs that, but it would likely take up space next to The Stick in his closet, I'm afraid. And I'm thinking that doesn't help one's IT Band. :rotfl: And it certainly would not help my de-cluttering quest.

CHOCOLATE MILK--it does a WISH body good! :goodvibes Who's going to be our official spokesperson for the ad campaign?

Cecilia: I hope your leg pain goes away without incident & you find something that is sufficiently enticing so that you remember to eat. (I'll never need to say that about myself!)

Jackie: I'm glad you didn't run your half under those conditions. Hope you get your mojo back for your 5K and running faster than normal is a good sign, I think.

Vic: 3 miles more is 3 miles more. Profound, I know. :lmao:

Lily: It sounds like you're aiming for, and achieving, a slow, solid recovery & that you're keeping your eye on the Minnie. :thumbsup2 Keep it up.

AlohaJeff: WTG with speed intervals! It sounds like you're putting your partners through their paces as well as yours.

z: Great job on the run. You deserve those Thin Mints!

Kristi: I didn't know you needed to use your inhaler to run (I didn't know you have asthma for that matter.) And you still finished your WO? You're one tough cookie. Oops, I guess I have cookies on the brain these days. Wonder why? Good luck with the job fair.

Bill: Hopefully Timmy's meds are working. Good job with the bike riding, even if it was abbreviated.

Mike: Welcome!! It sound like you had a great workout & a phenomenal swim (love the not-drowning description, though). I'm a big fan of bagels & PB, but I hear the sweet siren sound of chocolate, so milk sounds good too.

Shan: You're doing great--and I'm sure you're going to enjoy your 12 miles! :woohoo: As for the tummies, add me to the list of the discount WISHers, or is the WISHers wishing for a discount. After one exploratory surgery, a hysterectomy, and another abdominal surgery to address problems caused by the hysterectomy, I have lots of scar tissue and what appears to be a second belly button. So attractive. (Was that TMI? :confused3 :rotfl:)

Judy: Thanks for the link to the compression capris. What is this foam roller of which you speak?

Maura: I probably missed this info, but what do you do?

Joan: I noticed the same thing with my Nike+...I just adjusted the mileage in my head and called it good. My Nike+ said I ran more than a marathon in January and I agreed that it felt like it! It sounds like if you know your approximate conversions you'll be prepared for the Minnie & have a good sense of your pace.

Craig: I'm continually impressed by your goal-setting & training. One day I hope for an easy 8 miles. :cloud9:

Sara: Good to hear from you. Just know that when you do get back in the groove there are us newbies who want to get to know you, too!

Amy: Oh, I do hope your motivation comes back. You're one of my main motivators, so I need you!! (Selfish, I know.) You might be pleased to know I just checked out Pilates for Dummies at the library, based on your recommendation. I look forward to giving it a shot tomorrow.

Stephanie: Yeah for the sunshine & for a funkless day! I bet there are more days like that to come!

As for me: Another training day: some running and some XT. The biggest news I have is that I attempted some bathing-suit shopping today for my upcoming Disney trip. Ugh. If there's anything that going to either cause me to binge on junk food or commit myself to more rigorous workouts, it's the combo of bathing suits & fluorescent lighting. (I'm choosing the latter, btw, but it was a close call earlier tonight.)

Warning: Potential or certain gross-out factor coming pirate: (just 'cause I'm a male)!

I've stated this before about certificates, and here it comes again for my dear friends who didn't quite get one in the mail (but whom I love dearly) . . .

I care less than zero about those stupid certificates. They are generated by a computer, many weeks after the race. They are antisceptic, and mean nothing to me. Yes, I have a bunch in the house, but honestly, I couldn't find any of them in a 5 minute search.

I do, however, care a great deal about the race bibs. I know this goes back to my too-short days as an X-C ski racer in Summit County, Colorado in 1971. When racers came in our bibs were totally disgusting, covered with spit, snot, and other bodily fluids. But the thing is, we loved them. Sure, we were teenagers and the more gross the better, but those bibs were on our chest, carried over the entire course. The worse they looked, the more proud we were of them.

It's the same for we finishers of the Disney races. We picked them up in advance, pinned them on the night before, are carried them over the entire course. Those bibs represent our effort, as they were with us every step of the way.

I have every racing bib I ever wore in a road race. I treasure them. Kristi, you have your bib, and in my book that's worth 1000 times more than a finisher's certificate. Treasure that bib, it went through a lot with you. That certificate, in contrast, was in a box, cool and dry on race day.

Joan

Yes, I read your post in reverse. You actually ran more than the Nike+ showed. That is a sure way to be mentally ready for the race. The Nike shows you aren't nearly done, and voila, there is the finish!

Craig - you're the best! :goodvibes
Have a fabulous time with Martha in England!

The certificate, or lack there of, doesn't bother me that much.
It's more symbolic of how I didn't properly train & thought I could get away with it.
Lesson learned!
I do have a racing scrapbook with all my bibs, certificates, etc.
I am missing a couple certificates. I have no idea where last year's Minnie one is for example.
BUT, I do have all the wrinkled, sweaty, dirty bibs! :thumbsup2

Hi Everyone!

Guess what i wore when I ran last night?! SHORTS! It was 70 degrees and beautiful. Ahh. The only pain was that every couch potato in Atlanta decided to start walking for the first time ever last night and there they were four a breast on MY trail.

Craig - I wear my Garmin when I race and you are exactly right. The garmin beeps and I better see that mile marker! It always gets off but thats how I entertain myself during the race. I waer the garmin because it keeps my pace for me. I know I can use a watch, but that requires too much math for my oxygen deprived brain.

I also keep every single one of my race bibs. I write my time on the back and stick it in a drawer with the rest. I actually refused to go to the concert at the Country Music Marathon because they wanted to collect my bib as the ticket. I thought I got to keep the bib but when they said no, I walked out. I would have given them the silly certificate though.

Morning folks!

I haven't really been posting here - I've been reading but haven't had the time to really write too much. Work has been pretty busy. I'm slowly but surely getting back on track with the runs but I seem to be hitting a shin splint issue with my right leg. I suspect it may be the shoes - seems to be the missing link - but they have less than 200 miles on them so it seems a bit early...? I've paid attention to my stride and I know it isn't a warm up issue so I'm not sure what else to think. I'm going to retire those shoes for now and see if that helps alleviate the issue. I ran Tuesday and my shin hurt so I took yesterday off and I'll try to get a few miles in today and tomorrow, then I have a 10K on Sunday.

That's great! And it perfectly fits the country music marathon, since it sounds like the chorus of a country song. "You can have my truck and my wife, but you cannot touch my bib!"

OK, as a back of the packer participant, I'm going to chime in here with my take on wearing the Garmin in an event. ;) When the beeper goes off at each of its miles, I look to see how far off I am when I actually pass the mile marker. When I did my first 10K, I actually added almost a mile from all of the weaving back and forth I was doing! :sad2: When I cross the mat at the end, I turn it off (being careful NOT to be looking at it when the finish photographer takes the picture!:lmao:) and compare my Garmin distance with the course distance. Any time it's less than a tenth off...it's a good thing! :rotfl:

Craig and Martha, ya'll have a good trip, ya heah? Mahtha, dear, I will be so hopin' that there be some pitchurs of ya at high tea. Ya'll know how we like our tea!! :cutie:

Greetings all -

No training to report today because...well, because I am a slug. :rolleyes2

Jen - You're so funny! :lmao: Yes, Pat is right. We got very nice certificates of appreciation. Wow, volunteering sure is worth it! A jacket, a one-day park ticket, a box lunch, a certificate..and we had a great time doing it!

Pat - Hey, I don't see New York on your List of 50. I'm going to have to find you something. ;)

Kristi - OK I was trying to let you be surprised, but now you know. :) Listen, you can get creative to inspire Chad to use the foam roller. Just ask the Panda.

Craig - Thanks for the, uhhhh, visual. I know what you mean about the finisher's certificates, but this one is for volunteering. I'm just amazed at how much we got for doing it, since it was so much fun to do anyway! Have a safe and wonderful trip and take good care of our Red Dragon 'cause we love her!

Gosh, I guess my reply got lost in cyber-space.....

Judy I would love some NY suggestions - for 2009. I am pretty booked for 2008, but am always looking to add to my collection of states! I just need a 3.5hr timelimit and of course a really cool medal. That is not asking too much is it??

Hello All

I am TRYING to go back and catch up on this week. I was in the "middle of nowhere" on business this week with VERY limited internet. And my hotel in the "middle of nowhere" had NO gym! (Plus it was cold and didn't seem very safe in the middle of nowhere) So no work out. Then to top it off I come down with a cold. I think I am goin to walk tonight, but not run.. (I can't breath, I think breathing is a requirement to run LOL!)

This thread has some intersting "twists" this week. Got to spend some time catching up!

Awesome, but you've got to do it too!!

I'll be heading north over the Memorial Weekend to meet up with Jen to do the Madison WI half, and I did Detroit with Carrie and Scott, and NC with Wendy and a host of other WISHers. Sharing the experience always doubles the fun. Maybe we could recruit a few others too!

Yup Judy, if Pat comes to your neck of the woods you have to do it with her. That is what she told me, anyway!!!!

Oh and Kristi and Judy, for count me in for volunteering next year (knock on wood, cross my fingers!!!) Are you sure you can handle me at 3:00 am in the morning. I may be in goof off mode since I am not running!!!! (I am doing the 1/2, so don't yell at me about that!)

Sorry I have been MIA because of work again. Stupid job taking up my DIS and RUNNING time. I was on such a roll after sunday and did not have time to run all week until today.

Did 5 miles in 47 minutes.

I'm really sorry guys ... gotta go

Leana, good luck with your 10K! :cheer2:

Cecilia, yep - the weather rocked yesterday! I wore shorts, too. :woohoo:

So the big news is I ran my last long run before my first half yesterday - my first 12 miler! And the bigger news is I LIVED! :yay:

My average pace was 11:03. I hope I do something similar for my half. I really want to be under 2:30. I've noticed the longer I go the slower my pace becomes. :upsidedow

The last 2 miles HURT. It actually got hot near the end - my car said 69 when I finished. I came home and took an ice bath and I feel pretty good. Knees a tad sore when I walk up and down the stairs.

So I guess I'm now in taper mode...

DH and I watched online the ING Georgia video of the course last night. Yikes, it is very hilly. I'm a tad scared. :scared:

Hope everyone has a FANTASTIC weekend! :grouphug:

Good Morning all!!

Chocolate Milksters: OK, I must be honest, I can't think of anything I would like to have LESS after a run than chocolate milk. After my LRs, I tend to be a "grilled chicken sandwich and a soda" kind of guy. And to be fully honest, after races I'm never usually all that hungry. (Except after the full this year. I was ravenous. Heck, I was ravenous at the half way point... darn Goofy Challenge....)

Judy-- Oh goodness, what an ordeal!! I think that's a very good reason to miss a long run. And I agree, where are all of our old people :confused3 ? I know things usually slow down here training wise, but I hope folks will come back and say Hi!

Lily-- Glad to hear you are recovering so well! :thumbsup2

Craig-- Boy do I hear you about running races with the Garmin. I always wear mine. If for no other reason than to know my clock time in case I need to push my pacing at the end... and I like to use it in the beginning to settle into my pace. It usually isn't a problem. That said, I was about to toss the darn thing over and overpass this year during the full.... If it says I've run 19 miles in a sauna, I better see that. Do NOT tell me I've run those 19 miles and see the mile marker at the top of an overpass.

Despite my best intentions, this has been a big LTO week for me. Work has been very very busy and I seem to have gotten the cold that every single other person in greater South Florida has. I've missed the past two days running and in the gym because I've been living on Alka-Seltzer Cold and Zycam spray, but I really want to beat this thing quick.

I'm still working on a fall race plan and can't come up with any really good answers. (OK, the IDEAL answer is to get into NYC this year and run that... but I just don't think I'll have the funds to do it. Which reminds me... I'll never complain about the expense of WDW races again... $11 just to get INTO the lottery, $155 for the race registration if you ARE excepted and don't get me started on hotels in Manhatten. :headache: ) So I'm still on the drawing board. :)

Have a Great Friday all!

Greetings Race Team -

Although I had to talk myself into getting out of bed this morning, I did crank out 2 miles, which was all my plan called for. Hardly seems worth getting up for, but I have eight miles on tap for tomorrow, so I'll save whatever mojo I have for that. Of course, "chilly rain" for tomorrow morning. Grrrr. :headache:

Jen - Oh yay! :yay: This will be fun! Don't worry about us putting up with you at that hour. You'll have to put up with me! I'm always amazed at how many people are wide awake at that hour of the morning. It's so surreal to me. I had to call Kristi at 3:00am that day because - like a dope - I didn't read the instructions and could not find where at WWoS I was supposed to check in. It was the only phone call I have ever made at that hour. Thankfully she was already up and at the checked in by then.

Angie - Hey, you could volunteer for the Half! Aww, we'll miss you but YAY for you doing your first Full! :woohoo:

Kevin - Don't forget we are only about 40 min or so north of Manhattan. Hope you feel better soon!

Yes it is VERY hilly. Especially the last 3 miles. At mile 12 last year I had a TNT coach yell out to me that there was one more hill. It was funny because you could see everyone around me slow down. There was almost like a wave effect as the entire field of runners slowed down.

It was the hills at the end that I liked best! I train on hills. I train to aggressively attack hills. I passed almost everyone on those last hills at the half! It gives me the illusion of being fast.

I can't believe you are in taper already I can't believe it is only two weeks away! I don't taper for a half other than taking it easy during the week prior so I am still thinking its weeks from now.

Hey Shan! GREAT JOB on that 12 Miler :). Your pace is excellent for a long run...I think you trained smart! Sounds like you are all ready to go girl. Enjoy the taper....let your body heal up and rest up....I'm certain that you will beat your goal  . As for tapers...I always taper before a half too...just gives me that extra rest to allow my body to go that much faster :). About the hills...I know they can be daunting but try not tense up and psyche yourself out when you see them...if your pace slows that's FINE...if you have to walk that's FINE...you'll make up time on the downhills. What goes up MUST go down right? ;)

Judy...THANK YOU for the link to the YouTube foam roller vid. It was perfect...I just got my foam roller last week and it's one of the BEST stretching/massage tools you can get! :thumbsup2

Kevin...Yeah...those NYC hotels are awfully expensive :(. IF I ever run NY at least I don't have to worry about the hotels...can drive right in. I think I'm going to head into the marathon this year as a spectator...I sure hope to see some Green Shirts running! :thumbsup2

Angie...you speed demon. GREAT run!!!

Hi team :). YAY...found my missing motivation. Had a nice run yesterday...hopped on the bike trainer for a good 10 miles and then did some Pilates. I think I'll head out for some hill repeats and a few miles today. It's FINALLY somewhat warm here :sunny: . A balmy 50 degrees!!!! I had a rough week of training...but finally feel back in the saddle! Have a great weekend.

Craig, Kristi, Cecilia: DOOD is the same way. Has all his race bibs, with notations on his time, pace, how he felt on the course, what he ate for breakfast, notable things about the event. He's not interested in the medals or the t-shirts, but the big is important. I'll have to have more experience to see if that's how I feel, but I certainly see the logic.

Craig: Have a good trip!

Leana: Good luck with the shins & the shoes. It does seem a bit early to replace them, better new shoes than unhealthy shins! :thumbsup2

Maherae: Ah, I've never thought about how us back-of-the-packers might indeed add extra distance. No wonder I get so tired! :rotfl:

Jen & All: I'm interested in volunteering for the 1/2!!! I've signed up for the full. :scared1:

CarolA: Middle of nowhere & no gym? Who'd you upset??? :rotfl2: I hope you're feeling better & are breathing easier.

Angie: Yay! :yay: for your run. I hope work & life ease up a bit for you so you can concentrate on the things that really matter, like us! :lmao:

TXAng: 90? Geez, I'm having a hard time breathing when I just think about running in that heat.

AlohaJeff: Hey, you and Angie could be virtual training buddies, as your paces are similar!

Shan: Good pace, great mileage, and you've demonstrated a willingness to do the ice bath. Enjoy your taper, and all the hard work it took to get there. I just know you're gonna do great!

Kevin: We don't have fall running schedules either, and are avoiding doing the budget thing. I hope your cold & LTO both subside. Does chocolate milk sound good after a diet of Alka-Seltzer Cold and Zycam spray?

GarminGang: That's it, I'm now utterly convinced both DOOD and I need them.

Judy: Yay for following your plan and "only" doing 2 miles. Double-yay for even contemplating running in cold, rainy weather.

Amy: Excellent news on the motivation--not lost, just playing hide-and-seek from you. You and Cecilia & your hills always impress me.

As for me: Not a lot to report today, except steady rain & a XT day. Tomorrow I'm scheduled to do 5 miles, which is my LR, so I'm hoping the rain lets up.

Hey teammates! Hope everyone is enjoying a little bit of Spring weather. We've had some beautiful weather here the past few days. Definitely lifting my spirits! Did some bike/elliptical xtraining yesterday and did a 1hr yoga class today. Holy Moly, that yoga is some serious business! But ya know I go for the 10 min relaxation session at the end--gotta love that mommy only time!;)

Read the directions carefully. Yes you need a copy of DL.

Also ANY race time will help you move up in start time so get a copy of that as well. Noone WANTS to start a 10k at 10am on July 4! Much better to be near the front even if you are walking!

Happy sunny Saturday, all! A nice day to run outdoors, unless you live in the Atlanta area. Hope you're all okay with no damage.

I ran my 6-miler today which turned out to be short by a bunch (closer to 5.7miles)--I don't know what happened on Mapmyrun. I would feel really bummed by that, except that I felt good at the end and know I could have made the last .3 miles easily. Anyway, thoughts of chocolate milk, cookies and WISH got me through the middle part where I usually battle the demons of "why are you doing this running thing again?".

deekaypee/Debra You asked (many posts ago) what I did (which I assume meant work as opposed to posting/running/milk drinking)--I work for an automotive company in R&D, although not as a scientist. I help manage a global network of research/science offices.

Time to go eat and maybe watch a little basketball--MSU taking on Wisconsin.

Well, Maura, you and I were out there together today. :) I also got my six miles done. That's my longest for this year! :thumbsup2 My proudest moment came when I threw up at mile 3 without stopping. :lmao: I, too, battled those horrible running demons.."Four miles is ok to do..you don't have to do six." "Look, you can turn here and head for home.." I was successful in defeating them by thinking of Jackie and Leana who were in events this weekend, and of Sunny and Lily who WISH they could be doing six miles. I was also ticking off the landmarks of the Minnie route. Made it outside of Hollywood Studios, heading for the Boardwalk next weekend! Thanks, team!! :yay: :goodvibes Anne

Carol A, Shan, and Cecilia - Hope y'all are ok. I heard from my parents this morning, and they were fine. That storm was something else! My son came and told me what was happening last night. (he was watching the game;) ) We are supposed to go to the Aquarium next week for our Spring Break. Called them this morning, and they said they were up and open. Is MARTA ok? I don't want to drive down there with the risk of running over glass, nails, etc.

Oh, and I did something yesterday that I never thought I would be able to do. I literally RAN to the post office. I took my running gear to work with me yesterday along with my entry for the Cotton Row. So, I ran down to the post office, dropped off my entry in the mailbox, and ran back. I did 4 miles in 52:12! I am supposed to be training at a 13:50 pace this month, and I beat it! I would never have been able to do that without the encouragement of my WISH family! :grouphug:

HI guys!

You guys in the Atlanta area...Hope you are ok! Glad to hear from Scott and Shan!!! Be careful! Looks like some pretty nasty stuff!

So...I got home yesterday and as I walk in the house, there is a gift bag. Inside is a note. It's a plain white piece of paper from DH and it says something to the effect of how proud he is of me, how he appreciates everything I do for our marriage, how much he loves me... and then there is a clue. "I have the best live growing thing sitting on me in your house. FInd that livign thing and open me up" I actually walked through the house 3 times and had to re-read it three times before it "clicked" We have a little stand that we have plant sitting on. It opens up. So..I go, open it up and inside is a Garmin 305! WOW!

The note was nice enough! Very heart-felt and something I really needed. But the Garmin...yay! I get to test it out tomorrow on my run! I'm so excited. It will be very good that I can track my heart-rate too.

Tonight we go on a double-date with my BIL/SIL. It's to a new fancy place we've never been before. My boss gave me a $100 gift certificate for there so we will try it out.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!!!

Hey Atlanta WISHERS, keep your heads down, and stay safe. Glad you're all safe.

My Queen just happened to pass through Atlanta-Hartsfield yesterday afternoon with her 40 students, en-route home to Honolulu. They didn't even know about the tornado until they got home. Near miss.

Today I took Princess #1 out for her first triathalon training. She did the actual race course of 50 meter swim, transition to bike for 1.1 miles, and finally .3 mile run. She did fine, and said she had fun. Must have wiped her out though, a half hour after getting home, she's taking a nap. And it's only 11 am here now. LOL.

I ran with her during the bike leg and run leg. So I got in a fast mile and a half.

I'm running early tomorrow morning, since a friend is visiting from Kansas. We're golfing over on the windward side of the island.

Have a great weekend.

Hi everyone-

Thanks for thinking of me! We had all the electronics off most of the day because of the weather. We were in and out of the basement three times due to the sirens.

At one point we had the kids check the weather on an old tv in the basement. I told them to holler if it was red where we live and they yelled back "what does it mean when the radar is black?" Huh?! black? In case you never had that, it comes after hot pink in terms of extreme. Grapefruit size hail in the atmosphere and all that fun stuff. I looked outside and the sky was completely green. Between that and the sirens it was very eery and very scary.

Tornadoes missed our neighborhood but we haven't checked out the area much. We did have hail but it was only about 1/4" and not as intense as other areas. The big thing is that we are losing trees all over the place. The drought weakened their roots and the winds are knocking them over like toothpicks. It is so sad to see them all down. Especially now when they are starting to bud.

Believe it or not, the sky is mostly blue now and the sun is shining. Of course it did this same thing between rounds 3 and 4 this afternoon so I am not letting my guard down yet.

Glad to hear most everyone else from Atlanta is ok. Waiting to hear from CarolA though.

Cruella De Mom, Hi, I have been looming in the background on this thread, but wanted to write and say I'm glad everything is ok!!!! I don't have many tornadoes and S. FLorida (just hurricanes) and could only image what it must have been like.

It's interesting about having the kids check the old tv for the weather report. I was thinking about this time next year when the old analog (over the air) signal is gone. What would I do in a hurricane when the power goes out ( and it can for weeks) we use to hook up and old 13" tv to the generator and could get at least 5 channels with an antenna. With HD signal that would not be possible. Cable needs Power to run and Satellite boxes and HD signal boxes all need power!! HMMMMMM does it make you think?? I would have to change my "no power" plans.

Anyway, glad to hear that all is ok!!

ATLANTA & AREA WISHERS: I'm glad those of you who have checked in are doing well, and hope everyone else is, too. Hopefully we'll hear from Carol A soon.

PEACHTREE-ERS: Have fun with the race. It's great to hear how excited you all are!

Stephanie: I agree with you about the 10 minutes of relaxation in yoga class. It makes the rest doubly worth it!

Maura: So that's why you're a globetrotter. Do you get to attend or work with the Detroit Auto Show at all? I used to love going to that event--such spectacle! WTG on your nearly 6 miler (I'm calling it good) and congrats on your Mouseketeer status!

Anne: Yah :yay: for doing your 6 miler & defeating the demons. I tend to bargain with mine, ala Maura & the chocolate milk & cookies promises. I love your mind-mapping of the Minnie. I'm definitely doing that when I train for the marathon.

Great job with the fitness yoga. I've been decluttering, too, although not for anything cool like new furniture, just because I'm a packrat.

Allie: What a smart way to combine errands with training. And WTG on the pace!

Amy: :woohoo: for the groove & the hill repeats. Now my real question is, what flavor jelly did your legs feel like?? :rotfl2:

Stacie: Wow! What a great day: a love note, a scavenger hunt, a date, and a Garmin! You deserve it all!

Aloha Jeff: What a supportive dad you are! You tell your pretty princess that we're all very proud of her--and impressed! Have fun golfing with your friend--how many times is she or he gonna say, "I don't think I"m in Kansas any more?" ;)

Cecilia: Gosh, that does sound scary. I'm glad you're all right, but the destructions of the tress is so sad.

As for me: Nothing to report but my LR of 5 miles followed by some stationary biking.
