Going in 51 days and we're staying at the GF. I've got a room reserved with a standard view. What exactly is this a view of? Also, we're going on DVC points but I'd like to upgrade if it doesn't cost anything extra. Any ideas on how to go about this. Thanks!!

The standard view at the GF is a garden view, usually a view of the grounds of the resort. There are some rooms with a garden view, in Sago Cay I believe, with views of the monorail. Since you are staying on DVC points you won't be able to upgrade since you can book most of the different views at the GF on points this year.

I think, but I'm not 100% sure, that marina view is also considered standard view. That is what we had last October while at Sago Cay. From our balcony we could see the marina and also Space Mountain. :)

Garden view includes quite a bit. To begin with, the GF grounds are gorgeous, so most views will be wonderful. GV may include the Quiet pool, the Marina, the monorail, a view of another building, etc.
Check out my GF picture pages (http://www.wdwinfo.com/sites/olenagf/) from last September. I wandered the grounds and took many pics.

you dont have to worry about parking lot views at the GF! there arent any!! :)
all the standard view rooms are considered garden view, that can be either the quiet pool which would include beautiful landscaping, garden views, or marina view, and one side of Sago Cay overlooks the monorail.
since they have different categories to book on points now, they will probably want to take extra points for lagoon view or charge you extra. before 2002, when you booked on points at the GF, it was all one category, we got lagoon view 3 times at the GF on dvc points!
but, it never hurts to ask!!!! you may get lucky!

Garden views are great views, I wouldn't call any of them a bad view. But, your only chance of a castle view is from a lagoon view room. If that is really really important to you, then I'd suggest that you upgrade. But, if not, I'm sure you'll love garden view!

We had a garden (standard) view 2 years ago and had a view of the marina, part of the lagoon and monorail in the Conch Key Building.
