I used ksc's awesome Contemp. photo to show where the suite is that we were upgraded to a few years ago. It is the arrow pointing to the second floor of the very end of the South wing building. The suite took up the whole end of the building!!

hi, i was just wondering exactly how close the mk view is from a room on the 12 fl. from the naked eye. in other words, i've seen many photos from the cr tower rooms of the mk, but there's no way to know how much they have been magnified, if a telephoto lens was used to bring them much closer, etc. is your picture of the view from your room exactly as you would be seeing it without a camera? just trying to see just how close the mk really is from the room. thanks, francie

Basically I never magnified it or used a telephoto lens.

This used to be right outside of the elevators on the concourse level. It has been so long since I've been to the Contemporary that I don't know if it is still there. It is a model of the Tower of the Four Winds that was created for the entrance to IASW when it debuted at the 1964 World's Fair.

Honestly, I haven't paid that much attention to it. There is a dark spot that is inside the lens. It is kind of in the middle of the photos but more toward the left side, however it is only really noticable when you are photographing a light color.

Really I don't see anything in the ones you quoted :confused: Where are they?

I have a question. We have never stayed here, but in some of the pictures, it looks like there is a small beach area at the water's edge. Is this true? If so, it would help in convincing the kids to stay here. Thanks.

I too read about the bacteria in Florida lake water, I was unaware that The lagoon was part of the story tho-- I never really looked into it much since we will prolly never swim in Florida lake water.... but I know a few kids got really sick due to it.

Space shuttle Discovery launch, October 2007, taken from the boat dock at the Grand Floridian. It appears to be shooting out of the roof of the Contemporary. Unfortunately, the clouds were obscuring some of our view of the action that morning, but for being 60 miles away it was pretty exciting. The vapor trail visible at the top of the photo is from the NASA spotter plane that had just passed over Disney World.

To everyone who posted such wonderful pictures...THANK YOU! I am soooo in love w/ the CR and these are getting me even more excited!!!! Was just wondering if anyone has a picture (wider angle) where you can see the construction in relation to the Tower? (Versus just a close up of the construction alone) Is it definitely NOT visible from any of the MK view Tower rooms? I would hope at the price you pay to stay there it wouldn't be.

Thanks for the pictures everyone! I haven't stayed at the CR since 1998, 10 years! Yikes! :scared1:

The rooms look a lot different now but that is a good thing! I loved the resort and our stay there so much but the decor left me a little wanting. I would love to stay there again now that the rooms have been remodeled.

We stayed in the North Garden Wing and it was so perfect. It was my first time staying on property and it just holds a lot of special memories. I was so sad to hear it was being torn down since I always think back whenever I pass it. I do have pictures and memories though so it will definitely live on! :)

I got a convention rate that was cheaper than two rooms at POP, and I got upgraded to the MK view because conventioneers are just put wherever they choose. I would never do it at rack rate.

I have the Canon Rebel XT and used a Sigma 70/300 zoom lens. Honestly, I really don't now how to use either of them really well. For the fireworks, I just kept taking pictures and hoped one or two of them looked good. :rotfl2: One of these days I actually have to watch the fireworks, I might enjoy them. ;)

I know there are fireworks tutorials out there that I keep meaning to learn. Hmmm...maybe that's my excuse for another trip. ::yes::

They were doing a lot of work every day. I'd be really interested to see what status it is at now. Hopefully someone will come back and post some more pictures of the progress.

Just wanted to say thanks for the terrific photo update of the resort. I agree with others that the entrance to the Wave looks pretty neat. Now, is the Wave on the ground floor near the lobby, or is it one floor up?

Thanks, I thought it was down there. I never saw the food and fun center. When I was there it was closed and they were building the Wave. They did such a good job concealing the construction I never figured out quite where it was supposed to go. I'm down to 15 months till my next stay, can't wait to check it out!

It was still there as late as 1993, I believe. Pretty sure it showed kids' movies at night.

last May there was still a Giant television off to the right with a bunch of small chairs. I watched an ancient Pluto cartoon with my daughter when we checked in.

If you mean the TV area for the kids that every resort has near the registration desks, here's a photo that shows CR's off to the left. It's where the Contemporary Grounds used to be (at the left of the photo, you can see the TV screen but the seating area is too dark to see much). The seating in the foreground is across from the registration desks.

No one is really excited about staying there except him, but these pics have certainly changed my mind :thumbsup2 I think that the view will change the rest of the family.

Here is the fireworks we saw from our balcony on the 11th floor of the Contemporary. My DD & her BF had a camera that they mounted to the railing of the balcony. Some of these are timed exposures 6 - 8 seconds.
The first shot is facing the castle, The other view is facing the Grand Floridian, they had the exact same show going off to our right over the castle. During the grand finale it seemed like we were surrounded by fireworks.
We really want to go back again next year!
