Dont freak out you'll be fine hehe. The CP provides housing for you. You'll either be at Vista or Chatham. Chatham is newer and well you'll eventually learn the meaning if Vista(lay). Sometimes you get to choose but keep up to date with hosuing and let them know if you prefer one and they will try to get you into the one you want to go to. if you look at the Cp site they offer pictures so ou can see what the housing looks lie. When i went for my CP (fall07) during the last month there they got so packed with cp students they offered free hosuing. The catch was you had to have your own transportation and i was a 25 minute drive from Disney. I was next to Universal. (Sabal Palms) Free free to pm with more questions:goodvibes

Yeah, Patterson Court should be opening up in phases from this summer into the fall. It's across the street from Chatham (my apartment at Chatham faced the construction site).

http://chrissaribay.com/misc/oldapartment.jpg

As far as free housing offiste goes, I wouldn't count on it. I think it's fair to say that Disney likes to keep the experience for new arrivals as cohesive and as consistent as possible. As such, it was only offered to program cast members who had already been on the program for a couple of months. Sabal Palm across the road from Vista and Alexandria/Parc Vue (near the Reems Road/Magic Kingdom cast exit) was offered first at a reduced rate, then sometime later Sabal Palm at Metrowest (off of Kirkman road) was offered at no cost. All these options (except Sabal Palm, which offered transportation from Vista) required you to have your own transportation.

Not sure. They were pretty far along when I left in January, so the odds are pretty fair that it could be ready- but I don't know to be honest.

My recommendation is to choose based on what you want. If you want to meet lots of people and interact with other CPs and cast members, then stay at Vista. Be forewarned, Vista can get loud and rowdy at times.

If you would rather have a relatively peaceful and quiet place to come home to after work, Chatham is your best bet. The complex is spread out, so it's quiet most of the time.

As far as Vista goes I never really went over there and hung out most of the people I knew who lived there would come to Chatham and hang out. If you want to party a lot and don't mind the noise then Vista may be the right place for you. You still meet people and make lots of friends at Chatham and its nice to come home at mid-1am after a 12 hour day and be able to just fall asleep without having all this noise going on.

It was sooo worth it for me two reasons: an extra 80 bucks on your paycheck every week was B-E-A utiful. and two i got lucky. I didnt have a car down there and two of my roomates wanted me to move with them. They drove me and picked me up from work everyday. It was fully furnished and really nice. If you have a car and dont mind the little extra drive and they are oofering it again go for it.

I feel like I need to defend Vista a little bit...

Yes, it is a really social living situation, but to be honest, at least in my experience, it was not very loud. Like you could hear stuff but it wasn't like, "Oh, I can't sleep!" It was fine and I was never disturbed with the noise. Vista was pretty fun and I made really good friends there (but I also had friends in Chatham, too). It just sucked living in a different complex than some of my friends because we would work until midnight, and then we couldn't hang out in our apartments because it was after hours. So... nothing you can really do about that, but I'm just saying. Okay, tangent over. Conclusion: Vista is not that bad!

Ill toss in my 2 cents.

Before I left for the program, I had read a ton of information about Vista and Chatham. I heard Vista was nothing more than a party place and that Chatham was the more laid back complex.

I am slightly older than most college students and I have already had my share of non stop partying and lack of sleep and decided after hearing all the information about the apt complexs that I would choose Chatham.

Fast forward to my arrival date and we found out we didnt even have a choice, everyone that arrived that day would be staying at Vista.

I wasnt too happy about this due to all the information I had read about this place and wasnt looking forward to it.

..............................................

We all moved in to building 28, right next to the bus stop and the pool. Contrary to what I had read, Vista was no worse than any other apt complex I have ever lived in.

There was never a night that it was so loud I couldnt sleep. Its true that Vista is a more sociable place. The layout of Vista just makes it much easier to meet people.

I had friends at Chatham that I went to visit and it seemed really, really quiet there. The apartments are nicer, thats for sure....but there wasnt much atmosphere there. Most of the people I knew there didnt even know their neighbors, whereas at Vista we socialized with the entire building.

It all boils down to what you want, but dont read more into it than is necessary.

Vista was no where even remotely close to as bad as I had read about it, and in retrospect I am quite happy I stayed there as opposed to Chatham.

Point well taken. Most of us are going based on our experiences and the experiences of our friends and co-CPs, but it's nice to hear a different perspective.

Wow, that's odd. How did that happen?

Disney/Price Management tries to have an equal number of apartments available at both Vista and Chatham, but it's all based upon availability. It is more rare, but is possible that they are only able to offer Chatham or only offer Vista.

Vista isnt as bad as everyone said we only had one part acrossed the hall was broken up soon as i got home. The apt are crap but it easier to catch bus and it a short walk to Walgreens, Wendys and if you REALY have to Cross roads And if your really like to walk Downtown disney(that long walk f bus was late).

Greetings Tyler,

Unfortunately at this time we do not have an official opening date set.
However, there is a good chance Patterson Court will be open for the
Fall Advantage & Fall Programs. We also do not predetermine room
assignments so any request you may have will have to wait until
check-in. At that time, you can ask and depending upon availability will
determine the outcome.

Have a Magical Day!

Typhoon Lagoon & Downtown Disney (F)
Publix & Walmart, Florida Mall on select days (H)
Disney's Animal Kingdom (J)
Sabal Palm/Blue Heron on 535 (S)

Connecting shuttles for other resort destinations:

I know I am late in topic. I would recommend Chatham all the way. It way newer, nicer, cleaner.. The environment is overall better. I have to agree that Vista is supposedly the "wilder" one, but don't let any one fool you. There are more then enough parties going on at Chatham. It seemed like chatham was more relaxed. In vista there is always people out and about, music is louder and overall the population is much younger. Without stereotyping if I was to go back, i still would pick chatham. The only downside of chatham is that its not next to a Wal-greens and a bar like Vista is.

It is optional. Unfortunately I don't really know too much about it, as I have never done it. All I know is that you fill in something, and it pairs you with one other person.

Eh, I might try it if I get accepted. I'm gonna go for a room with the most amount of people (which I believe is 8) so I don't know how useful it'd be for me. I'm a pretty social person but more importantly I want the cheapest rent I can possibly get.

I mean if you want to work at disney for a few months, you gotta be pretty quality right? lol The thing I'm wondering about is if our jobs will be like super draining from interacting with people all day long if it would be better to come home to a more quiet place (like Chatham is sounding like) or a more rowdy place (like vista way).

It really just depends on all of the factors in terms of quiet vs. rowdy. I think it should be looked at as quiet vs. social... (but don't get me wrong, people say Chatham is social, too.)

What do you want to do after work?
If you are a quieter person who is looking for more of a quiet environment and a few friends to hang out with really low-key, then Chatham is a good place for you.

If you are a more outgoing person who is looking for a social environment and the opportunity to interact with more people in an atmosphere more conducive to interpersonal interaction, then Vista Way is a good place for you.

But no matter where you go, there are chances you won't like it, there are chances you will like it, there are chances it will be quiet, there are chances it will be loud, there are chances your roommate will be great, there are chances your roommate will be horrible. Unfortunately, you really can't determine what your experience will be based on the stereotype of the building. However, you can get as much information as possible (which it seems like you are doing, since you are on these boards) and make the decision that seems best for you.

wellness apartments only are different by not being able to have alcohol anywhere inside of it. It is not necessarily wellness because of health reasons. And since you only have to be 18 to buy cigarettes anyone on the program can smoke. NOT that they can do it in the apartments. And it does not save you from roomies who choose to smoke outside the door of the apartment or out on the balcony. I would suggest letting roommates know the importance to you in keeping that far away for your health. And hopefully they will be caring enough to respect that.

I personally love smoke free air and although don't have medical reasons backing up that desire, can understand your concerns.

not that i have anything against the youngins (i'm 33), but there may be a bit more possibility of drama and times you may be put in a situation where you may have to put down your foot.

I would hope that by 18 or so learning to accept responsibility for one's actions would happen, but it also coincides with the first living experience from home.
Not to say that everyone fits into that, but you increase the chances of it happening.

But even with being over 21 doesn't guarantee quietness...just make sure that when you sit down with the roomies you try to find a common ground. Or at least agree on set quiet hours. Not that your neighbors will fall under it, but then that is the benefit of having security too.

csaribay

how big is the cs program.....like how many people come with the cs?

Not very large in the grand scheme of things. I was told by a couple people that it's around 100-150 participants. Considering the programs together represent 6,000 cast members, the number of CS participants is not hugely significant. To the best of my knowledge, that number CS participants is not a set quota, but more fluid based on the recruiting numbers of other programs and housing availability.

do they have the roomate notifactation for CS people?

Unfortunately, not yet. Hopefully that's something they'll add in future seasons.

I'm well outside the age range for them as well (I turn 25 in August lol,) but it was recommended I request wellness housing due to asthma and smoke sensitivities. I wouldn't worry too much about wellness vs non-wellness. The only difference is alcohol- absolutely no smoking is allowed in any of the apartments (doing such subjects those responsible to fines and further discipline).

Yes. It is $50 to move.

I read that if you are unhappy with your rooming situation you can request to be moved for a fee. Is this true and has anyone ever done it? Is it more trouble then it's worth?

Let me share my roomate experience.

I was lucky and lived in Chatham and had a 1-bedroom. So I thought, on many levels. One was my roommate was gone most of the time, which is ideal sometimes, but who comes to Disney to spend all their time alone. Sure at times I reached out and hung out from time to time, it was a bonus I had my car then, so there was always someone who wanted to join me on my many adventures. For the most part though, I tend to not be the first to reach out to others socially. So with one roommate and having that kind of personality can work against you.
Plus I have a short term memory from time to time in the kitchen...but work well when there is a timer to remind me. I don't think ours had one...so I forgot. The dangerous thing was I had the kettle boiling water on the stove and left the apartment. Yeah! we were fortunate nothing burned but the plastic piece on the kettle, which btw when burned makes an awful stink! I don't blame my roommate for being a lil scared. A LOT of horrible things could have happened w/ my not being able to pay attention.
Of course I didn't have to pay the $50 fee since it was not something I was requesting. But I would not recommend taking that route because depending on the situation and how it is handled, I could see it being grounds for dismissal.

So housing thought it would be better that I live with more people, simply to cut down the chances of my forgetfulness happening again. It ended up being a good move, going to a 3 bedroom. I was luck to have a great group of girls who I still am in contact with. Plus I see it as more chances to avoid having to deal with one roomate you may not get along. With more people, more chances of at least having one of them to get to know.

Of course I prefer 3 bedroom because at least each room had a bathroom, so only 2 people per bathroom. Plus we all get the same size of fridge...so in a 4 bedroom I can only imagine how packed it gets. Ours was always overflowing.

Not that this would apply to everyone, but if I thought along the lines of getting to know people instead of trying to avoid having to deal with them I may have avoided a few speed bumps.

Just my 2 cents

Just head to your apartment complex's front desk the day you turn 21, and they can get create you a new ID on the spot.

You may need to get another picture done for it (I needed to), but it can be done in the clubhouse.

So from the pictures ive seen of chatham i was confused. It looks like the bedroom is connected to the living room...with no door? Can someone explain the layout to me?

This is not going to be perfect, but I've gotten a quick drawing of how a Chatham two bedroom is setup. Not drawn to scale, but the bedroom/bath furthest away from the main door is proportionately larger than the other bedroom. The whole setup is probably about 1200 sq. ft. or so.

Sure. As soon as you walk into the apartment there is the kitchen, dining/eating area, and the living room. Each bed/bath has a door.

Yep. I was in that bedroom my second CP.

It's the same in a 3-BR too.

so random question:
i just accepted my offer and aid my application fee for the CP. and it gives you the generic participation conformation letter. it says on their "Your arrival location will be the Vista Way apartment complex"
my question is does this mean i will be living in Vista way?

and if not.. when do you find out where you are living.

Everyone checks in at Vista, it is there that you will be given your rooms within the first 2-3 hours of being there.

Everyones arrival point is Vista Way. It doesn't mean that is where you will live.

Everyone checks in at Vista Way, although for as many arrival dates as possible they try to have an even number of Vista Way and Chatham Square apartments available. You'll be given your housing assignment after filling your first round of paperwork on your arrival day- be sure to make any requests, if you have any, before collecting your keys.

Don't worry. Vista is where everyone checks in at. You will find out where you will be living at check-in.

I'd like to share my housing experience, which in my case was kind of the opposite of Wend's. I started my program in Fall of '06. Myself and a co-worker from Cedar Point were doing the CP and met down there with the intent of getting into a 2-bdr apartment at Chatham. They told us we could live together but that we could only do so if it was a three-bedroom. We figured, what the hey, it's only 2 more people and signed up for it because neither of us wanted to live in Vista. While finishing up check-in we discovered the guy behind us in line was also in the apartment and he seemed pretty nice. We got to the apartment and met our two remaining roommates ("Wait, two?" You say. "That only makes five.")

By sheer coincidence one of our roommates happened to be paraplegic and thus had a handicap access bedroom/bathroom and had it to himself. Therefore we were in a three bedroom apartment with only 5 people. The other roommate was someone I knew was going to be trouble from the moment I met him. He came out of one of the bedrooms looking like he hadn't showered in a week and had just smoked a joint. Me and my co-worker quickly took the last completely open bedroom, even though I felt bad for leaving the guy we met in line to share a room with the creeper.

Turns out that the four of us, minus the creeper got along really well. Me and the guy we met in line became amazingly good friends when we realized how much we had in common. Creeper, on the other hand, only got worse. He worked Custodial at Downtown Disney and as such slept during the day and was up most of the night. On more than one occasion I (being one of the rare few CPs in attractions that actually had opening shifts) would have to get up in the middle of the night to go to the living room and ask him to turn down MY TV that was playing too loud and to be quiet. He also took other people's food from the fridge, domineered his roommate's computer to play World of Warcraft (having the nerve to ask him "What do you need it for?" when its owner needed to use it) and bring his equally creepy (yet strangely silent) girlfriend to the apartment.

I decided to extend, creeper's roommate (my friend) decided to extend, and creeper decided to extend while my former Cedar Point co-worker and our fifth roommate were both leaving. Obviously we were going to have to relocate. Me and creeper's roommate (here referred to as D-man) decided that neither of us could stand creeper and since we knew that the two of us got along we should just move into a one-bedroom. After a lovely stomach-virus riddled move-out day, I was in my new one-bedroom. It was great. Me and D-Man got along so well and it was nice having the apartment to just us. It was also nice being able to have it to myself and the occasional friends I brought over because D-Man would often go spend the night with his girlfriend who lived in a condo in Celebration.

To avoid rambling further, I'd say that Chatham is by and far better than Vista if you're like me and can't stand a lot of noise when you're trying to sleep. However, I wouldn't recommend going for a one-bedroom unless you know the person you're rooming with as, unlike with a larger apartment, if you don't get along with them you either have to share a bedroom with them or pay $50 to move elsewhere. You'll always have that chance of getting that bad roommate, but it's a lot more tolerable if you have a few others that you actually like.
