Just checking again for the May 25- how many of us Disers went through DU? Just checking to see if we can expect a little surprise in our room from DCL! 72, 71, 70..................

DH-39
DW-33
DD-10

We booked through DU- that is 1!

We used DU as well when we booked 5/25/02!

Hey sis-in-law, callahanjulie10! We too booked with DU for our cruise on 5/25/02. I am still waiting on that great upgrade....LOL

DH-47
DW-36
DS-10
DD-7 (will be 8 by cruise)

callahanjulie10
03-14-2002, 04:52 PM
So far- that is 3- only 5 more needed to get a surprise! Now, don't get me wrong- if they insist on upgrading us to a Walt or Roy- I will not require a GIFT!! Only 71 more days- here we come!

Hey guys, just called DU last week with our final payment. We will be there May 25!!! Yeah...

BWVPam
03-14-2002, 08:16 PM
Will be on May 25, but did not book through Dreams. DCL did fax me the Western Excursion information, so if anyone wants to know the meeting times and the length of excursion, let me know and I will post the details. Because we are flying out a couple of days before sailing, we leave in 69 days. I can't believe it is actually getting closer.

twinscandc
03-14-2002, 08:43 PM
We are on the 5/25 Western Cruise!! We didn't book through Dream's unlimited - didn't even know they existed!!

We booked through All Seasons Travel from the advice of a friend. From what I have heard, All Season has book close to 80 staterooms for this cruise.....I wonder if that "qualifies" us for a free gift???? I guess I should ask!!

Anyway, can't wait....first time disney cruise for all of us - me, DH and twin DD's (age 5.5).

We took advantage of the $99 rate for a pre-cruise stay at the Swan!! So, we leave in 65 days!!

I do have a question: I have heard on the other boards that Dis members wear lime green ribbons - does this apply to our cruise also? I would love to be looking and find someone!!

callahanjulie10
03-15-2002, 05:33 AM
We can decide if we want to do the ribbons. I always forget ours! We can set up a time for DISers to meet, most of the time it is when we first board. For us, that is always a little hectic, sometimes we make it and sometimes we don't. And there are always so many people on deck that there is no way to tell a DISer without the ribbon. Any suggestions...

So far- so good!

HI THERE --YA'ALL . WE WENT THRU DCL- NEXT TIME I'LL GO THRU DREAMS. CAN'T WAIT FOR 5/24- WE TALK EVERYNIGHT ABOUT THE DIFFERENT ISLANDS AND WHAT WE WANT TO DO. THAT EXTRA PORT DAY WILL BE INTERESTING. ONLY TWO SEA DAYS INSTEAD OFF 3. JULIE- WHAT SUPRISE ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT (OTHER THAN YOUR UPGRADE TO ROYS SUITE!!)

callahanjulie10
03-15-2002, 03:40 PM
If DU has 8 bookings on board- DCL will put a snack trunk or something of the like in each room. Sounds like a sweet deal to me! I just can't believe that they don't have more than 8 on each cruise.

Pugdog007
03-15-2002, 03:43 PM
We're on the May 25 Western also AND we booked through Dreams.

Can't wait!

Me, DW, DS21 and DS18 are going. We booked through All Seasons Travel and got a great rate.
DW and I cruised once before, but this is the first time for my sons. We are so excited.
It is our DS18 graduation from H.S. and the return of DS21 from Ecuador.
See you all there.:bounce:

You can check out Webmaster Michelles post towards the top of the page- this lists DCLs Western Caribs excursions. We have booked our own already with shoretrips.com. It is much cheaper and they have a great refund policy.

So far I have counted up 9 families going on the May 25 Magic-

Can't wait to cruise- only 69 more days! How many are booked at the Radission? From what I understand - they are almost filled to capacity for May 24!

Hey, Callahanjulie10, it looks like we only have 5 DU reservations. Surely, we have 3 more. I have sent private messsages to lkneller, ckerridan, irishcowboy, rose4hall asking them did they use DU. I really could use an extra gift.

callahanjulie10

03-17-2002, 03:04 PM
We are also going May 25, Western route, and booked through DU. How does the gift thing work does everyone who booked through them receive a gift if there are at least 8?:pinkbounc

JMMTNS
03-17-2002, 03:18 PM
Do we get counted twice towards the 8 needed? I just remembered that we also booked a seperate room for my parents but we paid for their room and ours? is that 2 more or just 1?:pinkbounc :pinkbounc

Bbethparsons
03-17-2002, 04:05 PM
Yes- if you got 2 rooms that does count! We are up to 7 DUer's! Basically if
DU ha 8 rooms or more booked per cruise- those people get a gift in their
staterooms compliments of DCL. This should be a great cruise- look forward
to meeting all of the DISers out there.

Hello, we will be on this cruise... It is our first time ever cruising. I am so excited I dont think it will ever get here... We booked with All Seasons Travel it seems like ages ago... I really enjoy reading the boards I have gotten lots of info here... Me and my husband an our 14 year old daughter will be going... She is a little nervous that she will not meet anyone her age to hang out with..But all the trip reports I have read said that she should not have any trouble making friends.. She is very outgoing so I am sure she will be fine.... I will just keep reading and gathering more information and i may be an expert by the time I leave...

Hey, can we all just put on our lime green ribbons before we head to the terminal...Last year we went and it was nice to see the lime green ribbons in the line to board the ship....AFter all, we do stand in line for a while before boarding...
It was way too crazy when we tried to meet at the embarktion...We never did see any lime green ribbons by the pool party...I do remember everyone that I met while standing in line....
Lets try it.

lkneller
03-24-2002, 04:40 PM
Yes, it is a long drive. Once we get south of Virginia the drive is very pleasant. Until we hit Fl. Then it gets a little hairy. But we have done it many times before so we know what we are getting into. We considered staying in Cocoa Beach on the 24th. We did that when we flew in, but with the long drive, it is better for us to stop 1-2 hours north of Cocoa Beach, and then drive in Sat morning. We have no children. But we are looking forward to seeing everyone else's!

My BIL knows Key West really well- so he is in charge of that port.

In Cozumel- we booked through Shoretrips.com the horseback riding to the ruins excursion. They are picking us up at the port.

We haven't decided on GC yet- we are thinking of renting a jeep and just going it on our own. My DD does not like salt water!!! so she didn't want to do the stingray excursion. I think my SILs family might try a beach but nothing set in stone.

I think that we are just going to go with the flow and try to relax-

This will be our third Disney cruise. Wish I had known about dis.boards earlier. I am thankfull to all who have posted helpful info. I've learned lots.
We, too, are VERY excited about this cruise and the new itinerary. Can't wait to read feed-back from May 11 cruisers!
It seems that most post-ers have younger children. Ours are twenty-somethings, but all five of us are kids at heart.
We are flying to Orlando May 21, staying in a time-share until Saturday am. Thanks to your suggestions we are renting a car and driving to the port to get an early start. Your packing ideas have been helpful also. I am definitely an over-packer. I'll be wearing a green ribbon on embarkation day and I hope to meet many of you on-board.
I'd love to hear from other "kids at heart" before we sail!
To those taking their first cruise, check out the Navigators ahead of time. It will really help you prepare, get oriented, and enjoy the cruise from day 1. :Pinkbounc

I have only lived in Chandler about seven years...It has even changed since I have been here.
We now have a mall, with a Nordstrom....It is called Chandler Fashion Center...

Are you sure you didn't mean Queen Creek, not Queen Valley????

Queen Creek is the only area now in the East VAlley where you can actually have some land. My husband and I are thinking about buying some land in Queen Creek, and relocating. It would only be about twenty minutes from where we are now....

Queen Valley is outside of Apache Junction. It is on the rode that runs up to Globe. It is a small retirement community that sits out at the base of the mountains. Very pretty setting and my folks really like it. Yes, we will be at Radisson night before, so anxious for us to get together.

Also, after I got off the boards I made our reservations for the Radisson the night of May 24, 2002 before the cruise. Looking forward to hearing from more of you.

No sorry. We booked through AAA. Looking at these boards alot of people use Dreams Unlimited. I do not know much about them either. I know AAA got us a really good rate and have been fabulous since I booked the cruise 6 months ago. My travel agent has taken care of everything, and even informed me of things that I did not know about and took care of them too!!

Looking forward to meeting all of you in 32 days!!!!!!!

Hi JeanneC- welcome! We are also staying at the Radission the night before- we are going to meet around the pool that evening. I have got to get some lime green ribbon! Anyway- I have a DD- Lindsey who is 10. I will have her e-mail Jillian. Her address is LindsC91@aol.com.

Look forward to putting a face with the name!

Hey CallahanJulie10!!!

Thanks for the info on the meet and greet at the pool. Jillian wrote down Lindsey's e-mail. She is going to write to her too. Are these Lime green ribbons just to identify ourselves as people on the boards??? Like I said I am new at this, so forgive some of my questions. Looking forward to meeting everyone and putting faces to these names too.

The ribbons are exactly for that- I have no idea who decided on lime green but that is the color for us DISers! Anyway- I always forget mine!

I will have a semi meet at the Radission the night before- around the pool and then in line at the port the next day. It will be great for the kids to meet before we board-

Great to have you on the May 25 cruise!

Thanks for your help

If you want to take any DCL excursions- I would prebook those. We usually do our own because DCL is a little expensive but then I don't mind doing the research or going out on our own!

When you board the ship- go ahead and make ressies for Palo ( if you want to try it). Palo is the adults only rest. It has an awesome brunch that is $10 per person- only on sea days, amazing dinner that cost s$5 per person- and also a High Tea which is free but I haven't been able to go on our last 2 cruises because it books up so fast.

Also- try and decide in advance what spa things you are interested in. The Surial and the Cabana Massage usually book up first. Go to www.***************** for the descriptions by Barb and Tony- they will also be on our cruise! They have cruised 20 some odd times! So they are pros at DCL.

A lot to remember but it isn't as hectic as it sounds. It is the best vacation that my family has ever done- this is #4 for us.

Ed/JeanneC

Thanks CallahanJulie10

I did already book excursions because we wanted to do the dolphin excursion in Cozumel and I was afraid that would book up, but DS 9 wanted to do the Banana Boat ride at Castaway Cay and I thought that we would just wait until we got there. I started reading these boards and realized that was not true, so yesterday I booked him for that too. I was glad that I did because there were time slots already booked and I could not even get him on until 12:00 noon. I imagine there will not be any slots left by the time that we get there. I really wanted to do the horseback riding to the ruins, but the kids have been wanting to do this dolphin thing. We went to Disney World last year and I was going to do it there, but they wanted $185.00 for each one of us and I thought that was a little steep. In Cozumel it was only $105 per person, so I thought that we should take advantage of it while we could.

Thanks for the tips, if you think of anymore let me know.

My twins and I did a paper chain to help with the count down. We hung it from the ceiling in our kitchen!! We started it on day 100!!

It is so exciting for the girls because they can no longer stand and take off the next link....they have to pull over their step stool!!

Here in a few days, I will have to use the step stool!!

It's getting so close, I can hardly contain myself!!

Less than 4 weeks to go!!

We're still waiting on cabin assignment and documents :(

Anyone have all of their excursions picked out? We're going to try to do Capt Marvin's/Stingray City excursion in Grand Cayman but haven't decided yet about Key West or Cozumel. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

callahanjulie10
04-28-2002, 01:37 PM
My BIL knows Key West and has plans on where we will be going-

Cozumel- we have a horseback riding excursion to the ruins planned with Shoretrips.com and then we will take DD back to ship if she doesn't want to do some typical tourist buying. I know SIL wants to do Hard Rock to get some pins for a friend.

In Grand Cayman, we have rented an 8 seater Jeep from Andys to take us EVERYWHERE! I would like to swim with the stingrays but DD or DH isn't real exicited about this since both of the grandfathers have been stung by a stingray while out fishing in the Bay. I just can't seem to convience them that this will be different! Oh well...

Does anyone know about the times on Grand Cayman? Is the time DCL lists as Grand Cayman port time actually GC time? This I do need to know....

Look forward meeting everyone!

BWVPam
04-28-2002, 01:46 PM
In Key West we will do the Old Town Trolley Tour on our own (not through DCL - a little bit cheaper). We used this company when we went to Washington, D.C. last September and really liked the fact that it took you to all of the sites and you could get off and do your own thing, then hope back on a trolley to the next site.

In Cozumel, I think we are going to take the cab to Chakannaab and then do some tourist stuff in town (I too have a friend that collects hard rock pins so I have to get her one from there.)

In Grand Cayman we will do the stingray thing and the tour of the island. This is the only thing we booked through DCL because it had a little bit of everything.

Sure are looking forward to seeing everyone.

Only 18 more days for us (spending 7 nights at WDW b/f cruise)! We cannot wait!!

The green ribbon....where did you find this? I have been looking at the fabric store and all they have is wide ribbon and the color doesn't really look lime green.

I haven't looked at the "curling" ribbon like you put on packages. I guess that might be my next option. I thought about putting them on saftey pins so we can put them on our shirts or backpacks.

Any suggestions?

Also, has anybody been keeping track of the DIS children for this cruise and their ages. I would like to see the run down.

I need help: We will be at WDW the week before the cruise - Would you pack for the whole 2 weeks? That is a LOT of clothes for the 4 of us!! Would it be better if we just packed for 1 week and then did laundry before leaving WDW?

Since it's only about two weeks away for us (16 days to be exact!!). After my garage sale this weekend, I'm going to start ironing things and getting them in suitcases!!

Thanks for the list Callahanjulie!!! It looks like we have a lot of youngsters to play with!!

I do not know if you were asking me, but if I were you I would pack for one week, plus essentials for formal nights and stuff for the cruise and do laundry before you head out to the cruise. That is a lot of clothes for two weeks, and I do not think that you want all that luggage. I am envious that you are getting two weeks though. I would have loved to do that, but we can not take that much time away from our businesses. Sounds like FUN!!!!!!

Hey Allison,

As far as I know there is one formal night and one semi-formal night on the 7 day cruise. If you go to Palos then I think that is kind of formal too. The rest of the cruise is pretty casual except at dinner you are not suppose to wear shorts or jeans, but rather khakis or pant suits. We will also be at the Radisson. I think some people are bringing lime green ribbon for us DISers, but you might want to find your own. That identifies as disney board people. See you at the Radisson! Only 18 more days and counting!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Jeanne. So I guess it would be possible to miss the formal night if you were scheduled for Palo's for that evening. Also, how dressed up do you think the kids need to be? Does my 4-year-old son need a jacket?

It's getting hard to focus on anything but this cruise!

Allison,

I know what you mean, but I have hardly been able to focus on anything, but this cruise since I booked it. I think that my family will be happy to take it and get it over with if it will stop me from talking about it all the time.

Yeah, I would not think that you would need more than one formal dress, even if you did wear it to Palos one night and to formal night, who would really know but you. My kids, I just basically thought that church clothes would do it for them. I do not even know if they will be with us on formal night as I have heard these kids love the kids programs and do not want to come out, but I will have to see.

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

The way I pack for the formal nights is to pack one floor length black skirt and two different kinds of tops- These outfits look very nice and I do not feel under dressed with DH in a tux. My DD-10 will be wearing a floor length black skirt with nice top and a really nice black and white dress the other night. I do know that SIL, bbethparsons bought her DS a tux online that really is nice. A jacket would be fine a little one or even a nice shirt/tie with dress pants.

We will all be meeting around the pool on Friday evening to let the kids get to know each other and swim. Look forward to meeting up with everyone!

I will be with my DAD and Daughter poolside, at the Radisson, Friday nite. Bring a lot of safety pins, because you could tie the ribbon to the safety pin before wearing it....

Hi everyone. I've got a couple of questions for the veteran cruisers out there:

How does the boarding process work? Is it a mad rush of people all trying to get on first? Once you get on the ship, how long are the lines for making reservations at Palo and the spa?

Also, does anyone know how the shuttle service from the Radisson works? Do we have to sign up for a particular shuttle time?

Thanks!

Allison.

callahanjulie10
05-10-2002, 01:39 PM
Welcome allindc-

First- yes you have to sign up for a shuttle time- you will do this upon check in at the Radission

Second- when you get to the terminal, you will need to wait in line to check in and then should be able to board unless it is before 12:30. If it is before that you will just wait until they say- this is #4 for us and it isn't bad- there are characters, tvs playing Disney cartoons, etc. It is a beautiful terminal and a really neat model of the ship in the center. Try to take in everything- not just rush through! We did this on our first trip and we now realize how much we missed!

Third- once you board you will get a Navigator that will tell you when and where to go and make ressies. I am not planning on rushing around- I plan to eat and if my DD wants to swim or whatever she can. My SIL and I try to help each other on the ressie thing- I know what I want and I kinda take whatever time seems the best for me. Whatever you prebook will always seem to conflict with something so I just kinda go with the flow- Don't worry- things will work out- heck it is a cruise- Relax and enjoy!

Good luck and see you on the 24th at the Radission!

Hey, not a big deal, but to DD it is. She just turned 8, which means she goes up to lab. Can you change her age on your list! Thanks, Beth Parsons

I'm trying to put together a list of things that we'll need but wouldn't ordinarily think of packing for a typical vacation.
So far I've got:

zip-lock baggies for lunches
anti-nausea meds
detergent/quarters
plug-in flashlight
fold-up cooler w/dry ice
wire hangers

Can anyone think of anything else?
Thanks.
Allison.

Does anyone know if the seasick pills (Bonine or Dramamine) over the counter work OK, or is it better to call the doctor and get him to prescribe something?

Oh, one more thing. Is there another hotel close to port that one could get ressies at for 05-24-02. I have booked the Radisson and I heard it was packed, and now my sister has decided to be there the night before and needs a nice place that will let her leave her car in their lot too?

One more week until we leave, can't wait.

I think they have free seasick pills onboard at the infirmary (1st or 2nd floor forward).

To be honest, I don't how the Radisson tells which cars are parked for customers on cruises. Do they make you register them before you park there?

Ed/Jeanne- I believe that the Hampton Inn now offers a shuttle service- which would mean that they will let cars stay in their parking lot. I would look at Dave's sight and check it out- he always has the up-to-date info on this kind of stuff. Look forward to meeting everyone. Until then- take care

Thanks Callahanjulie, I'll check that out! I tried to get her to do this earlier, but she did not know exactly when she could get out of town, so she waited until now. We will find her something.

Hi, everyone booked on 5/25 cruise. I've been away from the boards for a while, but reading all the posts tonight.....to say I can't wait is such an understatement! We are going to Orlando a few days early, staying in a time share till Sat. am. We will have access to web. Would someone who'll be at the Radisson Friday be able to post info about any plans for shipboard get-together? I'd really appreciate the info. Here's to a mega-magical cruise for all of us!

When are all the green ribbons meeting? We are arriving late and will miss the evening at the Raddison pool - so is there another planned meeting (how about breakfast at the Raddison - wearing green ribbons)? Do we want to meet on the ship, too? Wear your green ribbons to the Sail Away party! Other ideas?

Don't know specifics about meetings! I still have to find some green ribbon. We are of today for Disney! School was out yesterday for the kids and me! YEAH! I can't wait to meet everyone! Car is packed and all I have to do is get everyone up and dressed, plus today is DH birthday (48). My kids are so excited. They can't wait to see Julia nd Jenna and all their new friends that they have been e-mailing from the disboards. See you all on Friday!

Just a suggestion. I went on the Disney last year, and it was almost impossible to have a Disney meet poolside on the ship. It was so crowded, the lime green ribbons got lost in the crowd. How about this????Let's all try and meet like planned, but lets wear our green ribbons all day Saturday???This way, we may run into each other before the official meet???I will wear my ribbon to the terminal for check in and all day. I will be with my DAD, daughter, and best friend Laura. Look for us, we will all have on our green ribbons.

I agree with Ckerridan. It is almost impossible to find others at the sailaway party. It just gets too crowded.

We will be around the Mickey pool from 1:30 until the lifeboat drill on Saturday. Me, DW, Autumn (DD-11) and Billy (DS-5).

Hi all! I'm new to the boards as a registered user but have read my DH's boards for a while, and can't wait any more to say something for myself! My DH, Waltjr, and I, along with DS21-Dave and DS18-Nick, will be on the May 25th sailing and are getting ready as I write. I can't wait to meet all of you and we will be wearing our green ribbons at the terminal, or at least DH and I will. I don't think the guys will. We will be looking for green everywhere we go! Now, I have a question or two. One, do any of you know about the new smoking rules in the nightclub areas, and are you concerned that you will have problems with the smoke? I don't want to start a debate, but I have athsma and have plans to do a dance routine with DS Dave for 50's and 70's nights, but may not be able to with this new policy. Any ideas? Next question, Are any of you planning to wear costumes for the theme nights? I can't fit into any of my clothes from the 70's and don't think I want to buy any anyway. I just wondered. Next question, I tried to pre-book the stingray city snorkel and was told that they sold out weeks ago! Then we tried to send an email to this Captain Marvin to book with him, but have recieved no reply. Again, any ideas? I'll check the boards right up till we leave Sat. morning to see if any of you can help. One other thing. Since we live in Orlando we'll be driving out to the Port, and really don't want to pay to park there, but don't know any other way to do it, so any help there would be helpful too. thanks for 'listening'. :D ;) :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:   :jester:

Hey there!
Not sure about your first question about the smoking. I hope they are not too bad. Nothing worse than going to a fun place and coming out smelling like smoke.
But as for the other: My sister who is going with us booked 4 of our party on the stingray city charter through http://www.caymans.com/~caymans/stingray_charter.html for a great price. We are hoping that it will be a nice trip out to the reefs and snorkeling to see the sight. It was very reasonable.
Can't wait to go snorkeling.
We leave tomorrow for Florida to visit my dad and start our fun!!
See yall Saturday!
:D

I know of no "new policy" regarding smoking in the clubs. To my knowledge, you could always smoke in all of Beat Street.

This doesn't look good. Where would they re-route us if we can't make it to our scheduled ports???

I wonder too. I see that the mexica reading on weather.com look horrible but our looks iffy right now for the keys. I am truely hoping that we don't have a problem. Ya never know what the weather will do by the time we get to that port. I am crossing my fingers big time on this.
I do know they will cruise around the rough to make a easier ride if they can. I am bring playing card and extra change to play card on board. Love playing!
Only a few more hour before we will get on the boat! I will focus on that for now and hope for the best!
See yall soon!
Connie :D
