Connie darlin, you forgot Kewz1. We need her sweet self to cover for my sluggyness.
I can log 2 half hours of stretching and cals.
Then the darn vacuum cleaner decided to stop working. Why does dog and cat hair kill a vacuum so darn fast?
We went out looking at funiture for our game room. Amazing the price differences on the same thing at different stores.

That's why I picked strong personalities.
One time years ago I was stationed at Alexandria La. There was a spill way at a small dam near there. We had stopped to watch people fish for a few minutes when all of a sudden an old Cajun man reached down in the rocks where he was sitting and pulled out a snake about 6 foot long and holding it by the tail snapped it like a wet towel, popped the head right off of it. The same kind of grit that old fellow had is what I see in you ladies.:worship:

Good morning Team.
Well since monday I've lost 3.6 lbs, despite drinking stuff all day. This is going to be easy. I even stretched yesterday and already this morning. My achillies is feeling great so I should be ready for some good walking next week. Now all I need is spring so I can play outside.
Everyone have an awesome day and remember that you are worth the effort to be the best you can be.

Dave - glad to hear you are doing so well after your "adventure".
Cold here today, yesterday at SCUBA class, we walked out at the end to 2 inches of snow that had fallen while we were enjoying ourselves in the pool! It is sunny so far, but supposed to cloud up and snow again later. Wind chill is still below zero - and that is with calm (under 10 mph) winds! I will wait until the wind chill is above zero for my walk.
Yesterday the dogs and I did only a short walk (2 miles), but then I was good and did some weights (my least favorite thing) and a pilates tape. I am trying hard to get the weight training in twice a week. I have been able to get it in at least once a week for the last 2 weeks - that is really good for me!
Everyone have a good day!

Good morning team! Anyone else get lots and lots of snow? It took me f-o-r-e-v-e-r to get to work this morning. No "glad you made it in safely" either ... just a lot of "does it really take you that long to get in?" Yes, I purposely waited out in the snow for an hour... then I told the bus driver to go real slowly :rotfl:
Anyway, I did manage to get in a little bit of walking this morning. I got so cold standing around, I walked to the next intersection. I checked it out on my mapmyrun.com and it turns out it was three-quarters of mile. I'll take whatever I can get! I'll put in some time on the treadmill tonight too - hoping to reach 15 minute intervals by this time next week! (Anyone have an animated treadmill smiley?)
Stay warm and safe today!!

Bunny it sounds like living up there is a laugh a minute. I know you are ready for spring.
Scott we bought a purple Dyson as you advised. I hope it lasts better than the others we have been getting, the dog and kitty hair kills them pretty quickly.
We managed a couple of miles of walking in a Nashville mall after finding Erica's foot dr for the bunion surgery.
How's it going team?

Hello, Team!
Dave, I'm trying hard not to be envious of your weight loss. At this point I'm thinking, "Hmmmm. Oral surgery might not be THAT bad if I could lose some weight!" Yikes! :scared1: That's pretty scary! I DID manage to lose 2.4 pounds over the last three weeks. At this rate, I'll be ready to collect retirement pay before I lose the weight I want to! Oh, well, if that's the case, I'll be in good shape for retirement!
Connie has been helping me keep up to date with our team, but I may have missed some stuff. Snowy and cold here this week, but I'm hoping for better weather again for the weekend. Last weekend was wonderful for a 6+ mile walk. This week I am scheduled for 7, and I would love it if the wind were not blowing snow roughly 1000 mph!
Keep up the good work, everyone. Connie, thanks for keeping track of all of us for us! :grouphug:

Morning teammates--just realized there was a new thread--shows how "with it" I've been lately. Hope everyone is well. Going to the gym in a few, so I should be able to post some miles/min today. Yesterday I was made to work 2hrs late which cut out any chance of a workout. Ugh!
Dave--I know I'm a little late, but I am a Dyson believer! It's living vacuum nirvana! Yes, I might have an inappropriate relationship with my vacuum, but my house it clean!:rotfl:

Kathy - I, too, am hoping for the nice weekend that has been predicted!
It looks really nice outside, it is just really cold. Yesterday I braved the cold wind for 6 miles, I will try to get out today before the wind starts up again, but that means really cold temps. Well, maybe not REALLY cold compared to some, but under 20 degrees. With wind chill, that usually means in the single digits. We have SCUBA class again tonight, and it is supposed to snow again tonight, so we again may come out of class to a couple of inches of new snow. That also means that I will get a mini weight lifting session in loading the truck.
Have a good day, team.

Signed up to do two session with a Personal Trainer at the gym today, so I can be sure I am doing things correct. I made sure he knew I did not need help/input on my walking schedule. :upsidedow

I felt so good that I push mowed my .6 acher yard. Felt wonderfull getting some fresh air. Our temp went to 50 degrees, so I wanted to do something outside and I needed to make sure the mower would start.
I hadn't thought about it before but pushing a mower is a good stretching motion for the achillies tendons.
Glad to see you were able to get out Margie, as cold as it is up there that's an accomplishment.

Good morning team!
Yesterday I got a 6 mile walk in with the dogs early. I am glad that I got out early because the wind got much worse as the day progressed. Today there is new snow on the ground, but it not supposed to be that cold, so if I wait, maybe it will all melt. It is already windy, so I do not think I will miss the wind today. Also scheduled for today is a weight lifting session and a pilates tape, although I did get a mini weight session yesterday hauling SCUBA tanks!
Scott has been too busy at work to get much in this week, hopefully next week will give him more off time to get in the workouts.

Dave I saw you on the main board walking around with your sandwich board getting more players :lmao: Does Erica know you've gone walk-about?
Margie! Your going to love the trainer! I had one for a couple of months getting ready for the marathon. Making sure I was doing things right, learning what I should focus on. I will hopefully make a few more appointments in the future to just make sure I'm on track. And to push me. She's great at pushing me. I refer to her as my training wheels. When I've thought I would die on the treadmill or couldn't do another whatever she would push but know when i've hit my limit. So I'd come away feeling good but safe. I'm really paranoid on the treadmill and ellipictal when I push it. I have this wild fear that my heart will explode LOL Desn't help that my ears sometimes plug up. But it was good to learn with her standing by me pushing me into 11 minute miles for a minute or 2 knowning she was watching me closely for signs of distress so i was able to focus more on what I needed to do and worry less about any twinge or fear. I hope you have a wonderful time with your trainer!!!!
Kat! Thursdays are really good days for me or have been in the past. The day I am most likely do to the gym and then do miles. I was able to do it this week and if DH can get home early on Thursdays that will work great for me or as the temps get warm Mom will come out and 'babysit' me so i'm not at the park alone.
Hi Dawn!!!! Welcome!!! I am very bad about posting. I tend to pop in for a few seconds and then rush out. But my heart remains here.
So Team I have ARRIVED!!!! Connie you have this in your PM too....
To recap this past week....
Sat.March 1st 6 miles 1 1/2 hours
Sun. March 2nd 6.5 miles 2:11 hours
Mon. March 3rd - day off
Tues. March 4th Gym time of 1 hour (circuit 3 times)
Wed. March 5th - 3.2 miles 53 minutes
Thurs...March 6th I killed myself!!! 55 minutes at the gym doing the circuit but did 1 mile on the ellip machine (12 min) and 4 miles on the reclining bike thingy can't recall how long. I only did the circuit lightly trying to free up muscles i over did on tuesday LOL
Thurs....March 6th --- 4 MILES in like 57 minutes but in the end had a full 1:01 hours since i walked back to walk with DH giving me 4.19 miles.
Fri...March 7th - 1 hour - full circuit 3 times plus got in 2 miles on the reclining bike supposedly cooling down waiting for Mom to leave the dentist LOL
Now I'm done for today and Saturday starts the new week. My knee is ok for running for the most part though I get twinges sometimes. I'm currently not crazy about the one machine in the circuit. Where your leg is bent and you straighten it to lift the weight. When I reach the end of the my reps I notice a funny feeling. But I'm at about what I was lifting/doing back before the Marathon. I have avoided the treadmill this week because I've done the circuit each visit and didn't want to push my knee with running especially as I finish doing leg presses. It's been 3 weeks to the day that I feel on the ice. Susan feel this past Wednesday and apparently has a very swollen knee, her hand swelled (must have landed on it) and also hit her head. She hit the ground pretty hard she said. We have a 1/2 Marathon in like 30 days. Thankfully they cancelled the snow warning we had up thru last night. We can't take anymore snow or ice. Since we started training for races we have not fallen and then for both of us to go down within 3 weeks of each other. YIKES!
Hope everyone else is having a great training week and have a wonderful weekend!!! Stay healthy. Stay injury-free. And for those that are dealing with colds or injuries major PD thoughts for your quick return :wizard:

Now for a little bit about myself. I live in WA state, I am 44 years old, married for 25 years (celebrated our 25th in WDW  ) with 3 kids...well they used to be kids, someone replaced them with adults while I wasn't looking! Our oldest will be 24 in May and she is doing her first year of teaching (special ed, middle school), our middle is 22 and he is a mechanic, our baby will be 18 in May and plans to go to college for computer programing. We have an awsome relationship with our kids, and love spending time with them.
My husband and I have our own business. We have a wholesale bait distributing company. So what we do is, we get the bait in bulk (worms, sand shrimp, herring, maggots, salmon eggs, etc.) then package it, and deliver it to the sporting good stores or convenience stores. Yes, not the most glamorous work out there :scared1: , but somebody has to do it!
I just found this wonderful section of the DIS last night. Up until resently when I was planning (or dreaming) of WDW I was NOT looking for fitness inspiration!:lmao:
I have managed to stay in fairly fit through out my life, but after turning 40 it has gotten so much harder! The 5-10 pounds that I used to gain and lose has become 20-25 pounds! I have already lost 7 this go around, with 17 more to go.
When we were at WDW to celebrate our 25th this last January, it just happened to be marathon weekend. I have a good friend that just ran her first marathon last October, and I knew that she was planning on running the Disney one next year and I was excited to see what it was like. As we came into Animal Kingdom and saw the runners outside the park it was very cool. We then had to dodge the runners to get to the other side of the path (mile 17), and then walked right next to them on our way to Everest. As we were walking, I was joking with my family, "I'm gonna run this with Carol next year." Then we just happened to see the very last person running and it really ispired me. Somewhere along the line, the joking became...I wonder if I really could run this next year?
So right now I am getting ready to do a 5 mile run the first part of April. I have NEVER done any kind of run before, but I have wanted to do this local one for years. From there we will see. ;) There are 2 things that worry me about the marathon. First, I have had knee and hip problems before so I don't know if this old body can really do that many miles (but they have not been bothing me so far, and I am running more than before right now). Second, I don't know for sure that we will be able to afford the trip to WDW.
My husband suggested that if I want to try this to go for the 1/2 marathon. Well, that will not work for a couple reasons. If I am going to do this, I want to DO this. Also I want to run through AK. That is what I visulize when I think about doing it. And MOST important, I want the Mickey medal!:mickeyjum I have Mickeys all over my house and even a Mickey tattoo...Donald just won't do.
Wow, that ended up longer than I had planned!

Dawn that is so cool, I have been told before that I would make good bait.
Those are excellent reasons to do the marathon. We have some who run some who walk and others who run/walk. So whatever you do you will have plenty of company on race day.
We are really glad you joined us.

I don't like the Dreadmill and only use it when absolutely necessary :rolleyes1
At least March is starting out better than the whole month of February (sick all month) I got in 17.24 miles this week with 9 hours 8 minutes.
Still need to do my Pilate's Flexibility stretches tonight.

Margie you probably know more about walking fast than the trainers. You can get tips on stretches and crosstraining that complements walking if the trainer is good. But most have no idea about the actual fast walking techniques.

Young lady? :lmao: That's too funny! :rotfl2: I admit I'm pleased about the time and miles I have been getting in, but I have no kids at home which means no soccer practice, no boy scout meetings, no parent/teacher conferences, no homework monitoring, etc etc etc. You guys that have so many other things going on have my admiration for making it all work. It's all I can do to work my job and get my exercise time in. I make it onto the boards once or twice a week and that's about as far as I can go!
Welcome, Dawn, to our team! I hope you really enjoy it! You have plenty of time to work up to a marathon, and I hope you can afford the trip to WDW. I know it's a lot of $$$, especially when you have college kids!
DH and I are leaving Thursday to go visit our son and his family in Tennessee before our son is re-deployed to Iraq. I will be exercising, but I may be a little behind on getting my times reported. This week I had 433 minutes and 14.12 miles. (Connie, I have sent you a separate e-mail.) Since DH is not a walker, I will be trying to work exercising around his idea of a vacation schedule. Of course, his idea of a vacation schedule is NO schedule, so it might work out pretty well for me! ;)
I'll try to get back on here again before we leave. You all keep up the great work! :cheer2:

I know I have way too many great coaches available, right here, to rely on the advise of a Non Walker! Actually he is going to concentrate on the weights, making sure I use the machines correctly, start me out slow so every muscle in my body is not hurting the next day. I like the fact that they have the bikes I can use for cross training until I can get mine out on the road again. And I do not want to over do anything before April 6th.

I try very hard not to speak about the weather here in Florida, as I realize that many of you across the country are facing unbearable conditions. But I just have to say that today's weather with 25-mile gust winds was one of my toughest 6-miles run that I have endured in quite some time. There were times where the wind shoved me without having the ability to defend myself left me feeling like a bag of empty Doritos whipped around to and fro. The only amusement about this morning’s run was watching the seagulls fly into the wind, getting absolutely nowhere in their flight :rotfl: .
Ok, no more mention of the 60-degree weather conditions in Florida.
Welcome to the team Cobbler :).
Kathy – God bless your son and be with him as he protects our nation's freedom :lovestruc.
Dawnie – Welcome aboard the Hakuna Matata tree! The only guidance that I wanted to offer you regarding the marathon is to really respect the mileage and time involved with training for the actual marathon itself. Take it slow and ease into your mileage increases with no more than 10% per week; and mostly, have FUN with your training, don’t make it a chore.
Please do keep us updated with how your training is going, as this board is full of love and support :grouphug:.
Back to hitting the books kids!! AND...a warm cup of coffee (maybe 3-4 cups):wave2:

Wow Donna, you are going to have to start wearing a weight belt to keep your little self on the ground. I have done that here, watching the birds fighting against the wind, except here it's crows and buzzards.
I have to go back to work today, they haven't closed the mall so it's off to work I go. It will be interesting trying to counsel paitents when I can't half talk.;)
It looks like the whole country is having a weird winter, so maybe we will have a wonderfull summer that is unusually nice with low humidity. I can't wait to see everyone again, but when I do it will be fall again.
Scott and Lynn that is so cool that you guys are scuba instructors in the far north and Dawn sells bait. Dawn you know in Kentucky that would make you Royalty.:)

Jimmy Concert replay tonight while mouse burgers cook. Insulation and drywall after a long dog walk were the event of the day for us. Then might watch the DaVinci Code.
Dave good to hear you are doing great with the achilies and the teeth.
Team you all are doing great.
St Paddy Day 5 K run next weekend. Hope to finish the drywall tomorrow. Also would like to get a nice long run in, if the weather cooperates.

Hi everyone!! I am here, a little tired but here.
Um, if I am understanding this correctly we report our milage for the week and if we do something else besides running then we report the hours, correct?
I see it runs from Sat - Friday so I guess I start today.
Well I logged in 5 miles today :) (plus 1/2 mile warm-up/down, but I don't count those numbers in my milage).
A little about me, I live in MI - brrr. I ran track in high school, I was a sprinter, no way could I do any distance running.
Well after the member cruise last year there was that ToT 6.5K and I thought how fun that would be and I kind of had this goal to run a half marathon sometime before I got too old. So I decided to give the ToT a try to see how I liked it. Well it was a blast and I was really proud of myself.
So low and behold I am signed up for the Minnie 15K in May, I conned hubby into running the EE 5K with me after the Member Cruise this year and I did sign up for the 1/2 in '09!!
It's all about the medals ;) I am, on average, running a 12.30 minute mile. Not bad for never doing any kind of distance run and to be honest I am just going for distance and not speed.
So that is it for me.

It's nice our MI group is growing - I am from the Kalamazoo area.
Not sure about your comment - doing it before you got too old...what is too old? :rotfl: I read an article about this British guy who is running a marathon at 101!
And yes, Panda will verify you do count the time you run along with any cross training, stretching, Pilate's, Yoga, snow shoveling, etc. Then you also log the miles in the miles section.
So if you ran 6 miles in an hour :teacher: you register both Miles: 6 Time: 1 hr
Oh, dear Panda - No Shovel so you were not able to get in the shoveling time today...bummer! Didn't you just mow your lawn :confused3

Kathy and Kristen there is no more noble a profession than being one of your nations heroes. As a retired warrior I know I can speak for all warriors past and present that we pray for a day when we could lay down our arms and live in peace. But untill theat day comes when we need fear no evil our warriors will stand ready to defend their families and their nation. Freedom is indeed not free and people like your son Kathy and your husband Kristen pay the price for many.
A warrior need never bow his or her head in shame because they are indeed our best and our bravest.
This has been a screwed up week for Erica and I. We were hit by a huge (for us) storm with about 6 inches of snow and last week it was 70 degrees and last night on my way home it was 15 degrees. Today the sun came out while I was working and the snow mostly melted. Erica has come down with a stomach virus and feels like crap. Maybe someday this week things will be normal again.
Yes Margie we have no shovel. It would have been unused for 14 years in the garage, as it is we drive right into the garage and walk into the house under cover. Wednesday when it was 70 was when I mowed the yard since the grass is green and growing.
Nothing to report training wise except lots of sleep and rest. We may, if Erica feels better tomorrow walk some in Nashville. By tuesday though I will be back training for sure.
I hope everyone else is doing better and not under the weather literally.

Welcome to my daily walks! 25 mph wind gusts are pretty normal here. Today, the sustained wind was 15-20mph, I did not check the gusts when I got home (we have a weather station that tells me the wind speeds). When Scott got called into work, I took the dogs on a 6 mile walk, did not walk fast today, but I think I feel better when I do try to keep up a decent speed. As Scott says, we have been doing dry-wall all weekend, we would have finished the room today if he had not been called out to work. I will have to figure out how much time we spent on the stairs to count them in our workouts for today:lmao:

Hi, everyone! Welcome, Cobbler!
Kristen, my thoughts are prayers are with you and your husband. I know how difficult this was for us the first time DS was in Iraq, and I can't imagine how many times more difficult it would be having a spouse there. My DH spent 8 years in the Navy, but it was mostly during peacetime, thank goodness. Thank you, team, for being so supportive of our troops and their families!
I did 7 miles yesterday. It was a little nippy, about 29 degrees when I started, but no wind. No wind is truly wonderful! :rolleyes1 I was not very fast at all, averaging only 3.6 mph, but it was quite a nice walk. I am beginning to think I will not ever be walking fast again, but mostly I am fine with that. I am still out there walking! Connie will be leaving me in the dust in OKC next month! Speaking of Connie, Woo-hoo! :cheer2: She got a silver in her 5k on Saturday! You go, girl! :woohoo: And her granddaughter got a gold! What fun!
I have my house cleaned, my laundry done :laundy: and my car all cleaned up, ready for our trip, in spite of having two of our grandsons over the weekend. Thank goodness for my DH, who is always great about pitching in with whatever needs done, from diaper changing to vacuuming! :lovestruc
Have a great week, all, and keep up the good work!

Good morning team! Looks like a nice day here in Cheyenne, cold but no wind. I have to wait for the plumber this morning to come and finish off our basement bathroom, so I won't get out until later. It should be warmer today, with mild (10-15 mph) winds. Tomorrow is supposed to be nearly 60 degrees, then snow is forcast for Wednesday:scared1: It also looks like it may be snowing for the St. Patricks 5K we are doing Sat. in Ft. Collins. Happy Monday everyone! Anyone else get tons and tons of snow on the weekend? I think we had more than a foot and we're running out of places to put it! Most of my neighbours started shoveling enough just to get one car out of the driveway.
Missed my Sunday miles on the TM but plan to make up for them tonight. Btw, does anyone have tips on keeping shoelaces tied? Lately, my shoe laces keep coming undone while I'm running - I don't like stopping because I don't want to get back on again :)

No adoption, just catching them in my trap line in the garage.
Yes most of WY appears to be a wasteland, with lots of minerals under the barren landscape, thus lots o money in the state coffers from mineral royalities, this is a good thing for us state employees. Retirement system is very very stable. :thumbsup2

The 2009 Half Marathon will be my first. I just started a training program in Downtown Chicago, which is really great. Yesterday was a "cross training" day for me, I worked out on the bowflex and did a pilates tape, then walked 2 miles, as the dogs need their exercise! Today is supposed to be a "rest" day, but the dogs will again need their exercise, so I will probably do another 6 mile walk for them. My "rest" days seem to fall on the weekend when we are doing construction projects:rotfl2: On Saturday, we are going down to Ft Collins for a St Patricks Day 5K race, it looks like it will be raining and snowing - what fun! We are not going to get the snow that was predicted for today, that storm fizzled out, but it will be cooler than it has been, and the wind is back. It was really nice to have 2 days with little wind.
Kathy - have a great vacation.
Dave - glad to hear the ankle is doing well!

It was finally warm enouth for me to walk outside at 6 am this morning. It was dark though. I go to a health club and do my walks from there. It was erie walking in the dark. My path took me by some poverty areas, I passed three other people walking, 2 had bats and the other had a piece of pipe. These people were not together but passed at diffferent times. I guess this is not the best neighborhood to walk at night.
I got in 5 good strong miles and then did my stretching. Total time was 2 hours for the whole thing. I didn't time the walk, just went as I felt. I think I was averaging about 13 min per miles. I went to the top of the Hill at WKU and then back to the health club.
I want to put Erica on trial:
She has bunions that hurt and will be going into surgery for them on the 11th of April, then she will be recovering for 3 to 4 weeks. So it will probably be about a month and a half from now before she can contribute to the team.
Do you guys want me to take her off the roster and then reinstate her after she recovers?
Do you want to leave her on the roster and everyone have to do one extra mile a week to cover for her?
Please let me know your feelings, she and I are fine with whichever way y'all want to go with this.

As one who walks in wind on almost a daily basis, I agree that wind should count as DOUBLE milage! Yesterday because of the wind, I did a shorter walk just because the route did not take me into the wind for very long. I had a strong side wind from the left, then a strong side wind from the right. I only had to walk into the wind for about a half mile. But because that road only goes for 2 miles, my total walk was only 4.7 miles instead of my normal loop which is 6.2 miles.
Dave, I would be glad to donate a mile a week to Erica. With other illnesses and injuries, I would think that all the teams would have this problem sometime during the year, and it will all even out in the end.
Donna - I am the opposite, give me an occasional blizzard over a summer of heat and humidity. I grew up on the east coast, I was SO glad to escape the humidity. Of course, we have talked about retiring to Florida, and even own a lot in Port Charlotte, but we were never planning to stay in Florida during the summer. We would be the opposite of the snow birds, living in Florida in the winter and traveling in the summer. Now that we have moved to Cheyenne, we may just stay here.
Have a great day team!

G'day team!! And welcome to M-Kasch!!
I had some problems with my left shins (what is it with my left side?!). I felt pressure in my lower front part of the leg when I would bend down/squat down to file at work. Probably from increasing my intervals too quickly this week. At first, my chiropractor was worried that it might be a stress fracture - He did a REALLY REALLY painful ART treatment :headache: . It was the worst one to date so far but he had me do some squats afterwards and it felt a lot better! So I'm hoping that's all it was.
Lynn - How do you like the Bowflex? My dad is thinking of buying one - we don't know anyone who has one though and of course the commercials make it look great! He plays golf and badminton regularly (well golf in the summer anyway :rotfl: ) and was looking for something different to use on his off days.

Bats and clubs! Yikes! :scared1: I guess that would be a different way to get some speed work into one's routine. :rotfl:
Hope Erica feels better soon  And I would be more than happy to donate an extra mile or two if it will help out.

For Sweet Erica, Oh Yes...I will donate a mile or whatever is needed to keep her active on our Team! :grouphug:
BunnyFoo: I purchased a Gym Membership for a year. I used Internet Coupons Specials...WAY cheap. They have three different rooms of equipment plus the free weights. I told them what I needed. They told me the high points of each trainer then they 'Recommended' who they thought was best for me. He is a non-walker/runner, but he listens. I purchased two sessions. I am doing repititions with low weights. I do NOT want to have the Body Build Muscles! Tonight I need to decide it I need or can afford him for additional sessions. :yay:
Nice Workout, Panda! I like walking early but since I broke my ankle at 6:am, it is a biggie for me to see where I am stepping. :cool1:
I Recommend: I ordered a hydration belt and some capri's from Running Wear House. Great 15% Discount, Free Shipping, and they were Fast!
PS...Connie, Thanks for all the work you do as our WONDERFUL Captain! I really appreciate the way you have made our spreadsheet so easy to read...THANK YOU!

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to check in since it's been a while since I posted. I've been reading, just haven't had the time to post. I'm still coughing a bit, but I've got a lot more energy than I've had for the past month and a half. I've even been outside a few times to run. Yea!!! I know it will take a while to get my mileage back up to where it should be for Minnie, but I don't want to do too much too soon.
Welcome to all the new team members!!
Dave: I'd be happy to donate a mile to Erica while she's recovering.
Margie: I'm glad you like the trainer.
Scott & Lynn: I continue to be impressed with the mileage you get in despite your windy weather.
Bunnyfoo: Hope the ART helps.
Have a great day everyone.

Welcome back Cindy:flower3: , we missed you. Glad you are ready to begin your training again. Wish we were doing Minnie with you but we needed to take some time for body maintance.
Than you everyone for voting to cover for Erica during her rehab period. It will be good motivation for her to get started again so she won't let you wonderfull guys down.
It rained today so I couldn't play outside. I was a tad sore from the 5 miles yesterday on hills but not bad. The stretching is really helping. My legs feel much better. Even that evil achellies is behaving it's self.
So my totals for today were an easy 3 miles (15 mpm) pace and a good calistics and stretching routine.
Walk strong everyone.

I get the milage in because I do not have to go to work, so my days are basically free. Scott has to work at it, as he often works 60+ hours a week. We are also lucky, that other than the wind, our winter weather has been decent for getting out and walking/running.
Scott loves the bowflex, he was very skeptical about it at first, as he was into free weights, but he decided that it works as well as free weights. I do not care for weight training of any kind, but I prefer the bowflex to free weights, and it does not take up a great deal of room.
It was supposed to be really ugly today, so I did a long walk (7 miles) yesterday. That means today I just need to get the dogs out, so I will do about 2 miles. At the moment, it does not look bad, but is going to be cloudy with rain/snow showers all day. I will try to get out before the wind starts. I tried to do that yesterday, there was no wind when I started my walk, but it was blowing at about 15mph by the time I got home.
Have a good day team!

Also, a very belated, but heart-felt, "thank you" to all who have wished my husband and our family well during his deployment. :flower3: It was very much appreciated. I may even have teared up a bit but don't let that get around...;)

If it's all right with you, I'd like to donate today's XT miles/time to Erica: 11.25 miles & 2:00 (elliptical, as I'm rehabbing a knee). Where do I send them? In the meantime, I'll just deduct them from the total I report to Ohana to save Jeanne the hassle of tracking.

Hello everyone! First I want to apoligize for joining, posting once, and then disappearing! But that is how my life is sometimes. ;) I have been super busy this week. We are having a St. Paddy's party tomorrow and I started getting the house cleaned up and company ready...well that turned into Spring cleaning, clearing out, organizing, carpet cleaning, putting up pictures I had been meaning to do for 3 years, rearanging furniture...you get the idea. It's really too bad that house cleaning doesn't count for "hours". :laundy: I was on such a roll and acomplishing so much, that I missed some workouts. I will PM in the 3 that I did, and promise to do better next week!
One exciting thing I did do this week was I sent in my registration for my first Run. It's in 3 weeks and I live right down the road from where it is held. I have wanted to do this one for years, but never had the guts to try before. It is 5 miles and I KNOW I will have to do a combination of walking/running, but you have to start somewhere right? If I can do 5 miles, that is only 21 more miles to go for the WDW marathon!:rotfl: For extra motivation I printed 2 8x10 pictures I took of last Januarys marathon runners in AK, and have them taped to my treadmill. I keep picturing myself right there with them next year.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!

I have been reduced to walking! I slipped in the house and injured a toe, but more importantly, my right knee is acting up. So, I have been walking and biking. No jogging right now until it feels better :sad2: Hopefully, babying the knee and doing strengthening will have it back soon enough...
I want to be in shape for the Minnie, after all!! Have a great weekend, team :goodvibes

Debra that is so sweet. Erica hasn't been on the computer since Tues since she is working 4, 12 hour shifts (Night Nurse) in a row. I'm not going to tell her about this, I want her to read it herself. I think she will be just floored.
Her bunion on the left foot has been hurting since we started training for the Goofy last year but she never told me till now when it's going to be fixed. It always amazes me how women are so strong about things like that. I would have been whinning the whole time.

I have not posted here since my return from WDW last Friday night. I did a lot of miles (well for me) 23 during my stay.
A brief report - We arrived on Sunday and of course I had a terrible headache from the flight but regardless it was fine and we walked to MGM from the BW. Got to get my miles in :).
On Monday, Miranda called and told us that my MIL - had had a severe heart attack. On top of that one of my dear friends was in the hospital (same one) with a ruptured appendix. Talk about stress. Thankfully we had done our powerwalking in the morning to ease my headache - yes it does seem to help.
We were kept posted on her progress during the week. She was in good hands and there was not much we could do so we stayed. Poor Miranda and Nick, and Hope had to pick up the slack for us while we were gone.
This week we have spent time getting back to work, visiting the hospital and also dealing with my FIL who is not really with it. Mark has a brother and sister who do a lot for them so it was our turn to come in and help a bit. Although my MIL would rather have her DD help than the boys so that does put a strain on her.
So no miles for me this past week but I did manage to get in 3 today with 50 min of time. It's SNOWING here in NH again so it was on the TM. I have had that bad headache all week from my neck and have an appt with a new Dr on Tuesday. I'm feeling a bit more positive - as they say new eyes see new things.
I'm glad to be back among the living, with my friends here on the DIS.

Denise we are all glad to have your sweet personality back with us. It's to bad we all live so far apart. It would be great if we were all close enouth to meet for group hug breaks.
I went to the gym for just stretching and calistetics. My shins were just a bit sore to the touch yesterday so I thought a rest from walking day was in order. I don't want to overdue my miles while I'm building back up. Yes even walkers have to watch that and not build up to fast.
On the plus side I'm noticeably more limber and move better. I still have a long way to go but I'm seeing daylight. I'm gonna make this stretching work.
Everyone be strong today and remember how special you are.

Erica, I promise to dedicate one of my running days next week to your mileage, don’t you worry girl!! That’s what belonging on a team is all about :grouphug:!

Now, I think I’m going to take a little nap, get up, eat dinner, study a few hours, then go back to sleep. My goal tomorrow, bright and early is to log eight miles.
Have an awesome week fellow Hakuna Matata team-members!

Got home late yesterday, Lots of OT but too much work it is getting to me. I need a vacation.
Up early to drive to Ft Collins, really nice 5K race, did ok, 30:40, very cold, at least it did not snow.
After the race drove home and hit the local Home and Garden SHow, Still a little bit o landscaping to do this year. Gotta finish up the space between the barn and house. Looks like rocks will be in order. No trees or grass.
Then finished trim on the top of the Bathroom Cabinets, BIG DONE STAMP ON THE BATHROOM, and finished hanging the drywall in the North Bed room, will tape and 1st coat of mud tomorrow morn.
Later kids I gotta cook some burgers for dinner tonight, saute some peppers and onions. Not sure what to make as a side. Will post pics later. Photobucket is acting up.

We did have fun today at the St. Patricks Day 5K race in Fort Collins.
Connie, I am donating last Sundays 6.19 mile walk to Erica from me and Scott, I have sent you a PM with the totals. Scott had a very busy week and did not get many miles in this week. Hopefully next week will not be as bad, and he will have some time for runs (but it does not look good at this point).
Say, do we actually get double credit for races? I remember reading something about that, but can't remember if it was actually instituted.

Yes Yes Yes, the double miles rule is to encourage people to get out and do the races. Some people are shy about the group activities like that so any thing that might help.

Good Morning, Hakuna Matata!!! The bestest team because we have the bestest people!
This week has gone by at Warp speed for me! I didn't make my race yesterday, but it's okay. I did the one last week, that counts for something. I hope!
Kathy (Katwalks) and her DH came by our house on Friday on their way to see their son. We took them out for lunch and had a really great visit with them. We took them by to see Rib-eye and T-bone, two long horn bulls who have been trained to accept a saddle and be ridden just like a horse! They were getting ready for the big parade in Shamrock, Texas. (a St. Paddy's celebration in Shamrock... ) :rolleyes1
I managed to get about 20 miles this week even after I donated a 1.2 to Erica! She is really making the miles for the team! :rotfl: Good job, Erica!

Well, I went out this morning for my first LR and first run back outside since Disney. Didn't go well--did manage 5.5 miles in 51 minutes. However, around mile 3.5 my left knee started acting up and by 4.5 miles I was in pretty bad pain (eyes tearing pain) I figured walking would just delay the inevitable, so I finished the run home (not the best idea mind you) Now even walking hurts--it's actually hurting while I'm here sitting. Lisa and Stephanie, you guys need to tell your hubbies that you require extra pampering till you are better. A good professional massage can sometimes work wonders since a sore knee may be caused by other muscles and tendons.
I had pain behind my right knee, I assumed it was my knee. Well it turned out that I had tight swollen ITBs, since it was swelled in the middle it was pulling on where it attached behind the knee. A massage therapist worked out the soreness and the pain behind the knee went away. Good excuse for a massage anyway.:wizard:
My weight seems to have leveled off at 177. I'm eating pretty normally now just nothing crunchy. I do dearly miss crunchy. Maybe soon.
I'm off to the gym for the days exercise, have an awesome day everyone.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Lisa - we were talking to Scott's sister in Atlanta yesterday, and it sounds like the tornado badly damaged both the park and the center for the ING marathon. Have you heard anything about how it will affect the 1/2 marathon?
Roads are snow covered (unusual for here, usually the wind blows the snow away!), but the dogs have not been out for a walk for 2 days now, so I guess I will have to brave the snow for at least a short walk today. It will also be a slow walk. It is supposed to warm up later in the week, so I will have to make up for lost miles then.
Have a good day team!

Happy Monday and Happy St. Patrick's Day team!! It's another chilly day in Toronto so I will be doing my walk and my run indoors. Some days it feels like it's never going to warm up and the snow will never melt. I guess at least it's sunny so I can put on my sunglasses, grab a frozen yogurt and pretend that it's warm
Take care of those knees ladies! I had problems with my left knee for a little while. I've been seeing a chiropractor who does ART and it's made a world of difference! Of course now I seem to be starting up with shin problems ... the fun never stops when you're running :goodvibes
Dave - I had a similar pain behind my left knee too. Do you know what it's from? I thought maybe not stretching enough but it seems to have gone away. What kind of crunchy foods are you missing? Maybe you could take them and make a smoothie :) J/K

Thanks for the well wishes for my knee--decided to try an easy walk on the TM just to see how it was feeling. I got to a "max" speed of 4.1 before the pain started:sad2: So, I hopped off and did a little work on the recumbent bike.
Dave--was thinking ITB but the pain is really localized under the knee cap. I would classify it as "runner's knee" but I really haven't been training hard enough to warrant it. I do like the idea of extra pampering and a massage, though.
Totals for today 40 min gym time (tm, bike and ab work) 4.35 miles

Years ago I went to a doctor because my knees hurt, and he diagnosed it as runners knee - but I had never done anything athletic at that point in my life, so I do not think activity is necessary for runner's knees. They do not bother me too much if I can keep my weight below 150, whenever I get over that, they start to hurt.
Yesterday turned out to be a nicer day than I thought it would be. Started out on our walk, and ended up going 5 miles. I stayed to the paved roads as the dirt roads were really muddy, that restricts my options and my milage. It has dried up a bit, so today, if I can get out before the wind starts, I should get my 6 miles in.
Have a good day team!

Lynn I bet those pups are ready for a walk. You thought about a sled since you have a team already. You could harness up Scott and he could get in a good workout also.
I did a nice 4 miler on the treadbeast and then an hour of stretching and cals.
When I was on the tready I was alternating walking lsps of 4.0 and 4.5 speed. I decided afte a couple of miles to bump it to 12 mpm so I set the speed at 6.0. The 12 mpm pace seemed much tougher than it usually does but I finished up the quarter and then when I put the speed back to 4.0 I realized that 12 mpm was 5.0. Oops.
Achillies is still behaving and groin muscle is still a little sore but not affecting my walking.
Eating is better and better. As long as I cut things up and nothing crunchy, no we ain't putting crunchy stuff in a blender. Connie already suggested I have a beer and pizza smoothie.
Have an awesome day team mates.

I was really tired but I did 10 miles on the bike, some stretching, and my reps on both the thigh machines. As always I felt better when I was done. Then did my 10-minutes of Flexibility Pilate's.
I am ready to call it a day! :upsidedow

Good Morning Team:flower3:
Please welcome Kim and Mike back to the team. They have been off having an adventure and are now back with us. Welcome back dear friends.
I went to the gym for tready fun since we are having intense rain. I took it easy today, 4 miles at a 15 mpm pace, then my stretching. 2 hours total.
Our team is the best team, I put this team together not because of it's awesome athletic ability but because of it's heart and potential. I've known some of you a long time and know how much heart and courage there is here. I also know that several of your are on the edge of discovering just how special an athlete you can be. From the wonderfull novel "Call of the wild": "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog that matters".

Good morning team!
Yesterday was very windy, but I got my 6 miles in. It was blowing at 19mph when I left, and 28mph when I got back, with a maximum gust of 36mph while I was walking! At least it was sunny and dry and not too cold! Today should be the same, I will again try to get out before the wind really starts to blow! We had a SCUBA class last night, so I got my weights in by loading tanks and gear!
Scott has gotten some TM work in this week, but he has already worked 24 hours in 2 days! Today he is on the road, so it will probably be another long day for him.
Have a good day!

Hi Kim!
Yup you PM with mileage. Our week now runs from Saturday to Friday! Glad to have you back!
I am still trying to get some mileage in. I am just having a rough time of it right now. I wonder why??? I will come out of this....soon, I hope!
Erica has lost two dress sizes!!! You go, girl! Makes those lovely hospital gown cover more, more easily! Just because a hospital has semi-private rooms, why must they have semi-private gowns?? And then, make you walk in the not-so private hallways??? :confused3

The mailman brought me presents today. :cool1: After reading on here that "Marathons for Mortals" was a good beginning book, I went on to Amazon and ordered it. Then to get my free shipping I had to buy something else, so I got Enchanted too! I was a good girl too, and as much as I just wanted to start watching Enchanted, I started reading the book insted. ;)
So after reading half and glancing through the rest, I have a question for the experts, you guys! I really like the idea of following a specific training plan like it shows in the book. I think I would do better with some stucture to keep me in line! My ultimate goal is to do the Disney full marathon in January. I was thinking about doing a half sometime this summer as a warm up. The book suggests 14 week plans for the half and 20 week plans for the full. There is a local half marathon here, but it is Sept 7th which is only 17 weeks before the Disney one.
So my questions are first, is this too short of a time in between the two ...and second, am I crazy for even thinking of trying to do a half AND a full, since until this last January I had not even thought of doing any race???
Steffwalks
03-19-2008, 03:45 PM
Well, let's see Dawnie.....
I think that would be cutting it really, really close. You will be sore and tired and worn out and probably a little depressed after the half. Can you find something more in-between. Even a 10K or 15K instead of a half to let you get the feel for racing and training??
After my first 1/2, which was also my first race, I could barely walk the next day or the one after that .....and it took me a while to want to train again. I have heard that most people have that kind of reaction, so please take that into consideration.
That's my personal experience. Anyone else?

trying to catch up with all your antics this week.
Spring is here, it will be in New Hampshire in about 6 weeks but we can dream. Sun is up longer so that's a blessing.
Went to a new dr for my neck he injected something in my shoulder to release the muscle a bit which it did but the injection site is now very sore. At least I can turn my head again, it cracks but what's a little noise?
Haven't got much walking in but between my headache and my MIL things are a bit messed up at home. 3 weeks of a headache will do that to you. I start PT tomorrow so that should help. Going for X-rays today to make sure all the joints are where they should be and they are not worse than before. He wants me off the drugs eventually - that would be nice.
So, hopefully, I get a few miles in tonight for the team. Doing a lot of stretching so I'll add that too.
Miss playing with my DIS friends here. Have a great Thursday, it's payday for us, Whoo Hoo, I get to pay bills.

Erica with through several years of progressively worse migrains and has finally gotten through it and just has a minor one occassionally now. Not sure what the fix was, seems like it was sort of a kind of unexpected treatment though I'll have to ask her.

I don't know why. :confused3 We have a recumbent bike, but I have been fearful of riding it since my hip locked, but I got on it last night and logged 12.7 miles! And the best part, my hip was pained but after a good round of stretching I worked the pain out and my hip is fine. So, I am going to add bike riding back into my workout! Look out miles and teams with triathletes, I am coming after y'all!!! :goodvibes

Good morning all!!! Well finally got a walk in last night only 3K but felt good to just get out there. I know the calender says it is spring but it is still definatley winter here so it was a bit cold but we survived.
Will be getting out for another walk tonight, before we head to walmart to get the 600 pictures from our cruise developed....they are going to hate us there tonight. I will try and post a few but I am a total computer idiot so I might just have to put them in photobucket and list the link.
Dave, tell Erica I am very proud of her, I seen a post of hers on another thread stating that she has last 2 dress sizes....that is amazing for her!!!!! Also so sorry to hear about all the health issues she has had.:grouphug:
Connie, I have been out of the loop for too long, what did you do to your hip???
Dawnie: Last year I did a 1/2 at the end of Sept, a 13K at disney end of Oct and then the 1/2 again in Disney in Jan and I found it OK, worst part was trying to train in the winter. This year I will be doing a 1/2 or full end of Sept and ...the plan right now is the full at disney in Jan....I think it will be OK, but I am by no means a expert, we only started doing any races coming up a year. Just listen to your own body.
Bummer, got to get back to work.

Good morning team! Happy Spring! Now if the weather will realize that it is spring:lmao:
It was REALLY windy yesterday, so only got 1.25 miles in outside with the dogs, then did some sprints on the the TM for another 1.25 miles. Not a very good day for me. Today, I need to wait for a landscaper to show up around 9am for an estimate, so I will probably miss the morning calm again (the wind usually starts up between 9 and noon, but has been picking up earlier the past few days). Today is really a cross training day anyway, so I should be doing weights and pilates tape. I am trying to taper off a bit from the walks to prepare for our half marathon on the 30th.
Denise - hope your neck recovers quickly.
Kim - Welcome back!
Connie - good for you on the bike!
Dave - take care of Erica for us!
Many years ago, I learned by trial and error that my migraines were caused by alcohol, I quit drinking and no more headaches! The few I get now are usually caused by dehydration - I seem to need alot more water than most to keep the headaches at bay, but it is an easy preventative.
Have a good day!

Lynn, of course I'll take care of my pretty princess, I take our bond of love most seriously. She enjoys her pampering, but she contributes her share of love and caring.
Connie, great news on being able to bike, you will be logging the miles now, it's good for your overall fitness level to. I wish I could get motivated to get on mine, maybe when the weather is better. I have a bike I had built for tri racing in the desert gathering cobwebs in the garage. I had it refurbished a couple of years ago and never did ride it.
Denise I asked Erica about her headaches and she said there really wasn't a fix they just stopped.
Kim and Mike, I think the whole team would rather you did the marathon with us instead of going on a cruise without us.:rotfl2: , we need to plan a team cruise for the future.
Margie, hang in there girl spring is here, it'll catch up with you soon.
Donna, now you will be getting into your hot season, becarefull out in that heat princess.
Cindy, how are doing?
I got a PM from Wilber, (Sue) Life for her is nuts but she will check in before the month is over and catch up.
Everyone I missed, love y'all, be strong and happy today.
I went to the gym today and did some more base training. 4 miles alternating between 4.0 and 4.5 speed. Then my hour of stretching and cals.
Funny I'm getting stiffer right now, can't figure that out. But I guess that my body is just adjusting to the new demands on it with the stretching. I am walking totally pain free though. The only real concern right now is the groin muscle soreness.
Have an awesome day y'all.

Kim Connie, I have been out of the loop for too long, what did you do to your hip???
Actually, this hip is an ongoing problem that I have battling for years. But sometime last year, while trying to train; it locked down. I had no rotation in my hip...at all. Even my foot pointed outward when I walkd. I had been going to the chiropractor and nothing was changing so I went to a D.O. He got things moving again. I was amazed at how much easier it was to walk when my hip rotated properly. I have to be careful though, and stretch, stretch, stretch. I wonder how much better I could have done the ToT, if my hip worked right! :confused3
I tried the bike again last night. I stretched so hard that I am sore from stretching. But my hip was hurting. It is loosening up a little all the time. I don't know whether to keep trying the bike and keep stretching or just to let it go.... I want to be able to go for bike rides with my grandchildren! If anyone has some good advise on this, PLEASE share!
At this point, I have pretty much scratched duathlons and triathlons off my list of things I want to try.
About to hit the road for 5 miles. I gotta get it in before the dang wind blows up and blows me away!
BTW, So glad to have Kim and Mike back again!!! :woohoo:

Hi Team.
Oh it feels good to be home from work. It's especially tough when it's beautiful spring day out and I'm trapped inside. I have really wanted to have some good outside walks and knowing it's perfect out is rough. It doesn't get pretty till about the time I have to get ready to go, the mornings are still chilly and dark. Hopefully this week it will change.
I got in my miles on the tready this morning and some good stretching. I really worked on the achillies tendons. I'm going to cure this tendonitis for good. It doesn't bother me at all now when I walk just sore for a bit after stretching.
I sure wish our insurance would pay for massage therapy. It will cover a little of the cost of a ciropractor and physical therapy but not massages. Darn. When Erica and I stopped trying to be runners we had several massages and trips to the Ciropractors. We both had problems resulting from tight ITBs and calves.
I guess not to many people are concerned about the 16 min per mile pace at the ToT. That's to bad because it's going to restrict a lot of beginners from trying it. Well I tried to get it changed, thanks everyone who supported the thread. Last year I did that request and we had a lot of response and they changed it to 18 min per mile. When a lot of us speak out against something they usually listen.
Sounds like everyone is doing good. Connie I never realized your hip was bothering you at ToT, you were going along great.
Everyone happy Easter weekend. Don't eat to many chocolate bunnies.

Sorry I haven't posted much this week. In fact, let me extend a double apology for the decrease of mileage lately. We all have to manage our precious time the best we can, so where I do promise each of you on our wonderful team my contribution, it may be a little on the lower scale for the next six-seven weeks.
For everyone that is struggling with various injuries and recoveries, please take it easy and don't pressure your body to do too much too soon.
I guess I better go on the ToT site and see how much the 13K is this year. If I am forced to purchase a park ticket along with the registration fee, I may bow out due to finances. That's not to say that I can't drive up and meet everyone for an early lunch :scratchin!

Good morning team.
Kim, Erica's left bunion is bothering her a lot and keeping her from being able to get any miles in. She goes into surgery for both feet on the 11th of next month, then will be off recovering for 4 meeks.
The team has offered to go and extra mile or 2 for her each week so we can keep her on the team roster till she recovers and can kick some ashphalt again. When you go out to do 4 miles just do an occassional 5 miles instead. Just let Seffwalks know when you went an extra mile for Erica.
When anyone on the team is injured we can go an extra mile for them so they will not leave because they think they are hurting the team by not contributing any miles.
Donna, just having your sweet self around is way better than extra miles. In answer to your question though you don't have to buy the park pass now, we fought that and they did away with that requirement. Now if we can just get them to relax the pace requirement.
Scott and Lynn, I'm glad you guys are going, Erica and I are really looking forward to hanging out with you wonderfull friends again.:yay:

Good Morning Team!!
Happy Easter to all.
A brief update well maybe not too brief.
My MIL is in the nursing home recovering from her Heart Attack but should be released by next week.
My neck is on the mend but quite painful. Went to a new Dr. had x-rays and started PT both at home and at the Dr's. So I will have - like Dave-- hours of stretching included in my workouts/miles.
Yesterday did a lot of stretching and was doing ok, then at 3 am my neck seized up so bad I could hardly move. Got up went and stretched- took drugs and was able to relax it enough to go back to sleep. What a mess. I guess like anything else when we work at it - some soreness will develop.
Mark and I were finally able to go to the track this morning. Bundled up - 29 here in NH but the track an field had been shoveled - the high school kids need to start training.
Did 4 miles in about an hour so I am very pleased. Generally when I'm done working out my neck feels better but not today. I know its from the stretching and I am probably not as patient as Dave but will try.
I have PT tomorrow and Tuesday - a massage Tuesday night and then on Wednesday Miranda, Gir The Gecko(She's a hero) and I are off to Amish country for a big quilt show. We will be MIA until Saturday night.
I know we can dodge the Amish buggy's in the morning or we may scope out a track but I'm not entirely sure we'll get any power-walking done while away.
My plan is to do another 4 miles after work Monday at the Track - so I'll have at least 8 this week but I will sure have a lot of hours of stretching and toning.
9 Pounds so far on Weight Watchers but Shoo Fly Pie may be my downfall next week, in addition to the Easter goodies I've made for later today.
Take care all - Miss you guys and if I have enough energy, I'll do an extra Mile for Erica too.

Denise, I'm not very patient either, I've just come to the conclusion that I better start doing everything right. I'm tired of making good progress then having to take 2 steps back to recover from some injury or other, all of which would not happen if I do the stretching regularly. I really don't like having to cut my walk training short to get the stretching in but I'm kinda curious to see how it works out.
The sun just came out for the first time today, maybe it will warm up a little. I'm not weather tough like you guys up north.
I just finished 2 hours of cleaning the kitchen. Glad that's out of the way, I just need to vacuum and I get my good house husband medal.

Recovering from the 13-inches of snow we received Friday and Saturday - thankfully no new snow today. Spring must have made a wrong turn! :sad1:
Long day - starting with sunrise service. I managed to squeeze in my 8-miles in on the Dreadmill. 5-miles when dinner went into the oven and then 3-miles while everyone else got to nap.

Dang Margie you are amazing Getting in 8 miles on the treadmill is an accomplishment. I'm done by 4 on the treadmill. I've used it more this year than ever, I think because it's been such a cold wet winter. The other winters it would be like 30 and sunny, which I don't like 30s but if it's sunny I can tolerate it. This winter has been very cloudy all winter, when it's so gray it seems so much colder to me.
I did get a lot done while my pretty princess recoverd from her week. It's bad when you have to rest to recover from work. But 12 hour shifts are draining.
Yes spring can start any time. It's still cold and gray here. By now it should be much nicer out.

Good morning team!
I may also have to hit the treadmill today, the wind is blowing at 20-30mph with gusts to 60! It should be warm here today, but with the wind blowing that hard, I may skip the dog walk today! We did get a good walk/run in yesterday.
On Wed. night we are headed out to Atlanta, actually to Denver on Wed night and to Atlanta on Thurs. for the ING 1/2 Marathon. At this point, it looks like cool weather and possibly rain for the race, but we will have to see what Sunday brings.

Good morning team.
I hope all this stretching works out for me. I have been faithfull to it. It adds an hour to the workout time. I hope this is what it takes for a new level of performance. I guess it just takes time for the changes to work. I'm so ready to have some warm weather so I can get out to the track and start doing intervals again weekly. I want to see where I am now speed wise, so I can plan my training.
I did 4 miles on the treadmill this morning and then the full stretching and calistetics routine. Lots of deep stretching on the achillies tendons.
Here is the reply I got from Disney Sports about the 16 mpm time restrition on the ToT. I'm still not giving up on it.
Dave-
Thanks for your feedback.
We are assuming the event you are referring to in your email is the
Tower of Terror 13K.
The pace for this race is 16 minutes per mile. This pace requirement
actually gives the participants an additional minute per mile over the
rest of the events in our Endurance Series which have a 15 minute per
mile pace.
The Tower of Terror 13K is in line with our January Marathon and Half
Marathon with 16 minute per mile pace.
We will check out the web site you attached to this email.
Thanks,
Disney Sports
This is a fight worth the effort because there are several of our team and I would assume lots of others besides that need the relaxed pace of 18 min per mile right now.
Anyway, I'm kinda drained right now when it comes to causes since I'm still trying to get my darn furniture I bought from Ashley Furniture Showcase. I surely do not reccommend shopping there.

Hello, everyone! We are back from vacation. It was WONDERFUL!!! I enjoyed it so much. We drove to northern Tennessee to see our DS who is stationed at Fort Campbell, KY. I had never been in that part of the world before and I LOVED it! So green and beautiful! We took our time and saw all possible tourist attractions along the way, even ones we didn't know WERE tourist attractions, like the side trip with Connie and her DH to see the longhorns, RibEye and TBone! :dance3: We didn't get home until Sunday afternoon. I didn't want to go to bed last night because I knew as soon as I went to bed, vacation would be over.......:sad2: But.....on to other things now!
I did absolutely AWFUL with my eating and exercising last week. I did well for the first 2 days of vacation and then it all went down the tubes. But today I am back on track. Of course, my legs are aching tonight because I hadn't worked out for a week! A good night's sleep should fix them up!
OF COURSE I am more than happy to donate time and miles to Erica! And how in the world has she managed to lose 2 dress sizes and not be exercising????
Denise, I hope your neck is better fast. Lisa, I'm sorry to hear about your knee. Kim and Mike, glad to have you back! Margie, sounds like things are going well, even though you're still not able to get outside! Scott and Lynn, glad to hear you haven't blown away up there! Donna, you seem to me to be getting lots of miles in! Dave, glad to hear you're working out without pain! Connie, I enjoyed our "bridge-walking"! Kristen, it's been a long time since my DH was in the Navy and left me for months at a time with our son, but not so long I don't remember what a struggle it was! Hang in there! (And yes, you will be picking those little balls up for months - just make sure they don't end up on your plate or in your bed!! :scared1: I know I have left some of the team out, but it's because it's past 8 pm and I have very little brain function left by this time of night!
You all keep on keeping on!

Good morning team!
I spent all day yesterday sanding drywall - and I mean all day - started at 9:30 am and finished at 6pm! I will have to make up for it today, get the dogs out for a good walk, and do some weights and that pilates tape that I should have done yesterday! The wind is less than yesterday, but still supposed to pick up later, so I will get the walk in early.
I will have time for a walk tomorrow before taking the dogs to the kennel. I will donate that walk to Erica. Then I don't see us doing much measurable exercise before the 1/2 marathon on Sunday.

Good morning team.
I had what has become my usual morning workout. 4 miles on the tready and then stretching and cals. This will change when I get some warm weather so I can train outside. I'm so tired of cold weather, I live in southern Ky and it was 23 degrees this morning! When the warm weather does hit I hope to have a good base so I can start some full throttle training without any problems.
My walking today was a warm-up then steady pace of 13:20 per mile then cool down. No surges today.

DS and his family will no doubt be there for a while and we have another close friend in Crossville, TN so we have lots of reasons to go back. Plus, we are thinking TN might be a good place to retire, so we'll need to check that out a little more before we do anything too drastic! It sure is beautiful there....I love the green hills! We have hills here, of course, but they look very different. I love the mountains, too, but Colorado is a little pricy as far as cost of living....It's entertaining to think about, anyway! :rolleyes1

Kathy the cost of living in the smaller towns in Ky and Tenn is very low. The advantage of Tenn over Ky is that Tenn has no state taxes, but the down side is that ky has a 6% sales tax and Tenn has an 8% tax.

Welcome home, Kathy!
Dave, how cool that you have a bit of lawn to mow! Just yesterday, you could see actual green on the trees! The apricot trees have been in bloom for a little while. It's nice to see spring on it's way. I fear there is at least one last snow storm to come, though. My lilacs haven't bloomed and they usually do, just in time to get frozen by the last blast of winter.
Scott! Sanding is hard dusty work. I hope you plan to count those hours!! You and Lynn have a great time in Hotlanta!
Cobbler, great job on the weight training. I enjoy doing it, but lately I have the hardest time making me do it. And it is so important.
Yesterday was a beautiful day for a walk. Unfortunately, I felt like I was walking through Jello. I finished my miles and came home to make an appointment with my doctor. I noticed my foot was once again pointed outwards, so now is the time to get it fixed before I mess up my training and have trouble with the half in April. I will discuss bike riding with my doctor and see what he thinks about my trying to work up to it.

I had an awesome walk this morning, I was able to go outside. It was 53 degrees and not raining! So I warmed up for a half mile on the tready and then did 4 good miles on my hills route. I didn't time it but it felt somewhere between 13 and 14 min per mile. I felt very strong.

Hi Cindy, hang in there pretty princess.
I'm taking a rest day except for stretching, that is a must. Erica got off work early and wanted her bed warmer on duty, so I guess that's a good reason to take a rest day. "No Honey I can't hold you till you fall asleep, I'm to busy walking to bother with you" you know that will happen.

Good morning, everyone! I didn't have a spectacular week last week, but it WAS better than the week before, so that's something. I guess! :confused3 I am heading into my hardest week of training before the OKC half, beginning on Monday. I'm not sure I'm up to it, but I'll give it my best shot. I have 6 miles to do today, and of course it's cold. The radio just said 26 degrees. I'm going to wait another half-hour before I go, though, and hope it will warm up just a little bit. I have too many other things on the agenda to sit around and wait for it to warm up. I am, for one thing, heading up to Colorado Springs to the running shoe store! Yippee! That is just such a cool store! :cool2: DH is in Washington D.C. this week, so I have no helper for cleaning and such. The house was clean when we left for vacation, clean when we got home, and then our daughter and her two sons were here for three days this week and POOF! Not clean. :scared1: Today is the warmer day of the weekend (it IS supposed to warm up later on) so I want to get my laundry out on the line. :laundy: I know you really don't care that I'm doing laundry, but I really like that little picture! :lmao:
Good luck to all the racers this weekend! :cheer2:

Good morning again dear team mates.
I had a good workout, on the tready but still good. It was cold and rainy outside so at least I have that alternative.
I did my stretching after and then my calistetics. I'm still having the concern with the groin muscle, I must have stretched it to much at some point. It only hurts when I get up and down form sitting or if I do a squat.
I didn't know today was Boston Marathon? Is that right or did I hear the news wrong?
Have a wonderfull day everyone.

I ran 7 miles today in 1:30:45
It was a bit tough. The last 2.5 miles was a bit of a challenge, both mentally and physically but I overcame and completed it. I have never run this far at one time before so this is a pretty amazing accomplishment in my book. I was glad to find out I am still under pace. All that was just under a 13 minute mile.
Hopefully today was just one of those days where it is a little tough to run because going 6 miles wasn't near this difficult last time.

Hi Everybody,
DonnaAll the weeks seem to run together for me!!! Seems like I am just barely keeping up, treading water, holding on, etc!
My most difficult training weeks are coming up. Kathy and I have the OKC half coming up on ghe 27th of April. It should be a great time. I am really looking forward to it, but all the work between then and now.....oy!
I am making prarie dresses for my oldest granddaughter and me. We will be attending the One Room School House. She asked me to go with her last year, so....... I will be going with her. I am making the dresses, the apron and pinafore and bonnets to match. I will also be a chaperone on my grandson's field trip to the zoo. Funny thing, I do the school house on a Tuesday, the zoo on a Thursday, Kathy gets here on that Friday and the half is on Sunday! Whew! I get tired just thinking of it. Good thing I  them all!
I did an easy 2 miles this morning with stretching. I have to keep this hip in shape, I am hoping that the stretching will make all the difference!
Happy Weekend, Mates! ~ Connie

ING ATL ½ Report:
Up at 00315, temp in the mid 40’s and it stayed that way for the whole day. We woke to the rhythm of a pouring rain, as it was a rainy night here in Georgia, donned the race kit, packed a cooler with water, drinks, and food, and drove into ATL. Found a parking place ½ block from the end of the race, it was a kewl lot with porta potties, score!!!! We were mega early, sat in the car till 0600. The rain was a light drizzle at that time, as we made our way into the porta potties. Got done there and headed to our corals, this was a little tough as there were changes due to the recent storms and the necessary changes as a result.
The day we went to the EXPO we noticed several of the buildings with broken windows and repairs ongoing, A race volunteer told us that Centennial Park will need to be re-sodded because of the broken glass.
I still and will always get a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye when our national anthem is played. I thank the good lod for all the brave men women past and present who made the great sacrafice so we can enjoy such events.
I was in Corral 6 and Lynn on Corral 7, the rope was dropped and there Lynn was next to me till the start.
The course was nice in that it took us through many historic areas of ATL, with neat old houses, and tree lined streets, the spectators were great. I missed not having the race clocks at various mile markers, I only recall seeing a race clock at the start/finish. THE VOLUNTEERS WERE GREAT. Water stops were plentiful and well manned. We did not notice any shortages of water or Gator Aide (I think that is what was offered). The course was pretty hilly, I heard several folks saying”another hill”.
The weather stayed overcast and there was no rain, the wind was cool and strong at times. Just like Wyoming. Saw some pretty cold people at the end, hypothermic for sure in the med tent.
The finish was well organized, lots of water, lots of food, Apples, Bananas, yogurt, cookies, pretzels, muffins, and bagels. Publix provided as a sponsor.
Lynn and I both garnered PB’s, 2:39 for me and 3:10 for Lynn. It was a fun Race for us THANKS ATLANTA.
There some more Team HM miles. :thumbsup2

Scott and Lynn thanks for the nice report, we need to do that one with you sometime.
Donna great week dear friend. Thanks for the Erica miles. It's tough for her right now not being able to train at all.
Connie thank you so much for what you do for us, dear captain. This is for you:
Three men were sitting together, bragging about how they had given duties to
their new wives.
The first man had married a woman from Minnesota and had told her that she was
going to do dishes and house cleaning.
It took a couple of days, but on the third day he came home to a clean house and
dishes washed and put away.
The second man had married a woman from Nebraska. He had given his wife orders
that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes, and the cooking. The first day he
didn't see any results, but the next day he saw that it was better. By the third
day, he saw that his house was clean, the dishes were done, and there was a huge
dinner on the table.
The third man had married a woman from Texas. He told her that her duties were
to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed and hot
meals on the table for every meal. The first day he didn't see anything, the
second day he didn't see anything, but by the third day some of the swelling had
gone down, and he could see a little out of his left eye, enough to fix himself
a bite to eat and load the dishwasher.
I just did 1.5 miles at the mall this morning but tomorrow I'm adding weight training to my routine. So it will be walking, stretching and cals then weights. This will bring my Mon/Wed?Fri workouts to 3 hours each. The other 3 training days will be an LSD day, a speed day and an easy day.
Have a restfull evening y'all.

Another ING Georgia Half Marathon report:
DH and I walked down Luckie St. :goodvibes at 6:15 and with a bit of work finally found Corral 7. He saw me off there and I believe I crossed the start line at 7:24. It was a very cold day, much colder than expected or forecast and the wind chill felt like middle 30's to me! In some ways, I think that helped and I personally felt so blessed that we did not get rained on, after all!!!!!! :thumbsup2
Even though, I am still fighting a lupus flare, somehow, I felt good (even with no long prep runs!:confused3 ). I was able to run at least 35% of the time or so and very regularly with a run walk pattern. I paced with the six hour marathoners for the first seven miles, at which time we split and there were no pacers for the half runners:rolleyes: I just tried to keep a good pace anyway. Shockingly, I also accomplished a new PR. The finish time for me appeared to be 10:19 which puts me at a definite sub 3 hour half :yay: I am calling it 2:55 until I see my chip time on the web!!
I enjoyed the bananas, blueberry gogurt :rotfl:, cookies, water and gatorade immensely afterward, LOL! I looked like I had frostbite by the time I made it back to my hotel but it was great fun and now I can't wait for the Minnie  Oh, and my hubby just about froze too waiting to cheer me at Mile 11, lol! He couldn't wait to hightail back to the hotel, lol :scared:
ETA: chip time 2:59:55 so I just BARELY got in under 3 hours, LOL!

DAVE Thanks! DH learned a long time ago not to try to line me out! :lmao:
Scott I am looking forward to the one room school house. :teacher: Everything is to be as authentic as possible, for early 1900's Oklahoma, thus the sewing. My DG will be carrying her lunch in pail and I will have a basket. I couldn't find a real dime novel, but I have a paper back of about the right size and written in the right era that I will take along in my basket. We will be having biscuits and ham for lunch. You might be interested in knowing that this is the real deal. It is indeed the original one room school from their community! The furnishings have been purchased from around the state from home owners and antique collectors, and they aren't just replicas! Since this is the 100 year anniversary of Oklahoma's statehood, it is even more memorable. -- I know you didn't really ask, but it is pretty interesting!

Congratulations to eveyones great weekend race results!:cheer2:
It's been a long snowy winter. Finally some nice weather in Southern Ontario. What a great day for a race. I ran the Around the Bay 30K Road Race (Hamilton, Ontario). This was the 114th anniversary for the race and as the race shirt says...."older than Boston".
We had access to the arena before the start of the race. Nice to have flush toilets :yay: and somewhere warm to wait before the start of the race. A great race, a little cold and windy running along Lake Ontario and a finish inside Copps Coliseum was cool.
I didn't follow a training program and was relying on January's marathon training to carry me through. Was very pleased with my results and came in 11 minutes before my set goal time.
Have a great week of training, Sue

4 miles fartleck on the tready since it was raining again. Then my regular cals and stretching, I followed it up with a weight training routine. I used light weights since I do not want to be to sore to move for a week. I haven't done weights for 20 years. Total time was 3 hours.
I have an awesome link to a weight training instruction site if anyone is interested. It's got an anamation of a naked man so I won't post it. You click on the different body parts and it give you a list of exercises. You click on each exercise and it shows you a video of someone doing it correctly.

Good morning Team.
Well I ended up with 4 miles and 5 total hours of exercise yesterday. Added 2 hours of push mowing the yard to the party. My legs feel wonderfull today no morning achillies soreness at all. The mowing action of pushing the mower works the feet and ankles a lot. I iced and took a couple of advils after I was done. Nine hours of sleep was nice to.
Today will be more darn tready miles since it's raining again. I sure hope the whole spring and summer are not rainy, last year we were in drought conditions. I need a whole bunch of 65 degree and dry days.
Everyone is doing great, I envy those of you that have a race soon, especially Connie and Kathy at the OKC Half. I might have a chance to do the Nashville, not sure yet.

Hi everyone  Sorry I haven't been around much lately. I pulled a muscle last Monday which irritated my SI nerve (or joint, I can't remember which one). So I've stayed off the TM - too much hip and lower back pain :( Figures just when I was getting ready to get in my first outdoor miles. :headache: I was doing really well before the little injury - I managed to put in 7.5 miles in a single session. :goodvibes
I went to see a PT yesterday. He works in the same office/fitness center as my chiro (he moved permanently back to the downtown location which is not as easy to get to). He gave me a bunch of stretches to do - every hour!!:scared1: I have to work on my balance and core muscles. Oh well, at least I'll get to log in some time so I'll still be contributing. Don't kick me off the team just yet
I wonder about my running though - he wanted me to take another 2 weeks off but then I told him about the Minnie in May. He says he'll try to get me ready for that but no running until Sunday at the earliest. I'll be back to see him tonight for personal training so I'll have to talk to him some more about it.
Good job everyone on all the recent results :cheer2: - I'm still making my way through all the posts I missed.
