Trying to plan which week in Oct. to go to disney. Oct.19-26 or Oct.26-Nov.2. Does anyone know when the term break is for the UK? Know of any other breaks going on during Oct? Trying to plan where we won't be there with a lot of other people. Our fall break in TN is Oct.13-17, but we can't go then because we got the 40% off code and it's only good after Oct.19th.

October is a wonderful time to visit. Don't mind the Brits, they are a lot of fun. We look forward to being there with them. They are usually present there the whole month and into Sept. as well.

You will probably get better, more qualified (and more UK) replies to this thread over on the UK section of the DIS.
I'm going to move this one over there.
Thanks!

Our half term is from the 24th oct to 3rd november.
most uk families go to wdw the week before their half term for 2 weeks or the week of their half term and the week after, so which ever dates you want to go on the brits will be there!! and they don't bite :rotfl:

Our school terms are changing here:confused: Our Local Education Authority branch of the town council are bringing in six week terms soon and no dated have been made definite yet, we'll probably find out at the end of the Summer term the holiday dates for the following year. Some areas of the country already take holidays before or after ours in the North East.I hope they sort it out soon We want to get booked up again :thumbsup2
Just had a look at the online dates for 2008/2009 our kids are off 27th-31st October
Ours is 19th oct for 2 weeks!!

the parks are really light whichever week you go.
Yes there will be loads of brits, and there were quite a few Canadians when we went in October. A lot of the American's commented on how many brits were about and often asked if we had a school holiday (break).
You will be able to tell who we are, as if it's a chilly morning we will be there in our shorts and tea-shirts, when all the Americans are wrapped up nice and warm. That was me anyway, people kept saying are you from the UK aren't you cold. I put on a brave smile and said it was really warm compared to home. It was actually really cold. Within an hour I had been in one of the stores and bought a fleece!

The floridians blood is much thinner than ours, and thats why they feel the cold more than we do! We were at dtd checkin in shorts and t shirts and all the virgin staff had long red coats on and gloves and stood shivering!!
Wow i'm shocked that some people are getting 2 weeks for half term!!!
Ours is, like most here, 27th-31st (mon-fri) - we're out there for our wedding and as a teacher i had to make sure most of our trip fitted into half term - much to the annoyance of our guests who are forced to pay the premium holidays prices ;) :goodvibes
We also have 2 weeks - from 18th Oct - go back 3rd Nov.

My question still stands, why 2 weeks? Do you lose time at some other point? Are they private schools?? Just a bit jealous here ;) :goodvibes

In Leicestershire we have Monday 20 - Friday 24 October as our half term week.
It does vary depending on your education authority.

Here in Aberdeenshire the 2 week break was known as the 'tattie' holidays - I believe that many years ago schools traditionally had this break to help with the potato harvest.
We do not have the may/june half term (whitsun?) or the week long February half term break like most English schools (just a long weekend) - this one really annoys me as it limits my skiing ;)

my kids attend local state school and we get two weeks at oct break as part of 6 year term. ( teaching blocks tend to be of equal days ) they do get shorter break in the Summer.
Still not released dates for 09/10 tho, and i keep asking :confused3
